Italian deputy PM blames EU for Le Pen prison sentence

The verdict against the veteran French politician is “a declaration of war by Brussels,” Matteo Salvini has said

Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has condemned the verdict against French presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen as “a declaration of war by Brussels.” Le Pen has been sentenced to four years in prison on embezzlement charges and barred from running for president in 2027.

In a post on X on Monday, Salvinicompared the outcome of the =trial in Paris to the recent barring of independent candidate Calin Georgescu in Romania.

”Those who fear the judgment of the voters often find reassurance in the judgment of the courts,”Salvini said. “A bad film that we are also seeing in other countries such as Romania.”

Georgescu, a critic of NATO, the EU, and aid to Ukraine, won an unexpected first-round victory in last year’s election. The results were promptly annulled by Romania’s Constitutional Court, citing funding irregularities. Georgescu was subsequently barred from running in the election rerun scheduled for May 2025.

Salvini called the ruling against Le Pen“a declaration of war by Brussels, at a time when the warlike impulses of Von der Leyen and Macron are frightening.” He was apparently referring to the push by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to militarize the EU and proposals by French President Emmanuel Macron to deploy troops to Ukraine.

Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally party (RN), was convicted of embezzling over €4 million from the European Parliament from 2004 to 2016. She received a four-year prison sentence, with two years suspended, and a five-year ban from holding public office, effectively disqualifying her from the 2027 presidential election.

Le Pen has been a prominent critic of NATO’s policies in Eastern Europe and has opposed Ukraine’s accession to the military bloc. She has also advocated against the EU’s anti-Russia policies. In the 2022 presidential election, she advanced to a runoff against Macron, securing around 41.5% of the vote. Earlier this year,polls suggested that Le Pen would secure 61% of the vote against her main rival in the upcoming presidential election. (So there is cheating in France.)

The conviction of Le Pen and the disqualification of Georgescu occur amid an emergence of political movements across the EU opposed to the bloc’s policies.A number of French and foreign politicians have condemned the court’s ruling as undemocratic.

Network Rail trials revolutionary approach to aerial operations with British drone companies

Network Rail and partners Drone Major Limited and Dronecloud have begun trials of “beyond visual line of sight” aerial operations on the railway to test a concept that could bring major improvements for passengers and rail freight customers.

Beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drones have the technology to cover many more miles of track than their Visual Line of Sight equivalents, filling the gap between standard drones and the Network Rail helicopter*.

With delays from trespass becoming one of the most significant causes of disruption on the railway – with over 1.5 million minutes since April 2024 – drones offer a game-changing speed of response.

Similarly, the potential to survey the railway safely from above means Network Rail’s maintenance colleagues could be directed to potential faults quickly, rather than being forced to walk miles along the railway to find them, exposing them to risk and delaying any fixes.

Two trials are underway with the aim of establishing protocols for the safe operation of BVLOS drones on the network and achieve Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approval for their wider use.

In Birmingham, Network Rail’s Rail Operating Centre has a drone operations centre set up by Dronecloud to provide aerial coverage of the network around the city for incident response and general infrastructure monitoring.

Set up in partnership with drone operator RUAS alongside drone manufacturers Velos Motors & Evolve, the Operating Centre has CAA permission to cover a range of 10km in the area.

The service has already provided its worth after intervening in an incident at Birmingham New Street last year, saving passengers cumulatively hours of disruption by responding quickly.

While the system is being trialled, the drone has to be monitored visually by observers on its flights, although the operator remains at the control point.

Should CAA approval be received – hopefully later this year – the drone will be allowed to fly truly Beyond Visual Line of Sight.

Meanwhile, in Wolverhampton and on the private Severn Valley Railway, Drone Major and Network Rail are trialling a system called Digital Tethering™ to allow for BVLOS drone operations in areas with poor GPS/GNSS (Global Positioning System/Global Navigation Satellite System) coverage.

Both solutions offer faster response to operational incidents while assuring the safety of trains and people on the ground, and safety and privacy for lineside neighbours.

The aim is to gain CAA approval for both aspects so they can be offered to Network Rail regions for use on the railway.

American Bitcoin aims to become the world’s largest Bitcoin miner and build a strategic Bitcoin reserve, Hut 8 said.

Overnight Drone Attack on Kharkiv Damages Civilian Infrastructure

In the early hours of March 31, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s. According to the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, all enemy kamikaze drones targeted the city’s Kyivsky district.

The strikes caused fires, and emergency services are working at the scenes. As of 5:55 a.m., a sixth explosion had been reported – preliminarily, again in the same area.

Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second-largest city, located in the northeast of the country, approximately 40 kilometers from the Russian border.

It is a major industrial, scientific, and cultural hub that had a population of over 1.4 million people before the full-scale invasion.

In Kharkiv, two people suffered acute stress reactions and were provided with the necessary assistance, Terekhov reported.

The facade and windows of one educational facility were damaged, windowpanes in nearby high-rise buildings were shattered, and several private vehicles were affected.

“As a result of the blast wave, window glazing in nearby apartment buildings was damaged,” he said.

Russian forces regularly strike Ukrainian regions using various types of weaponry – including attack drones, missiles, guided aerial bombs (KABs), and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Despite overwhelming evidence and documented cases of attacks on civilian infrastructure, the Russian leadership officially denies that its army deliberately targets civilian populations and infrastructure.

In reality, however, strikes often hit hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy facilities, water systems, and residential areas – resulting in civilian casualties and widespread destruction.

Laurie Buckhout, the new Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, is responsible for establishing DoD cyberspace policy and strategy, providing guidance and oversight on DoD cyberspace activities, and managing DoD's primary external relationships across the U.S. government, key domestic stakeholders, and our allies and partners.

"I am deeply honored by the President's trust in me to assist him in his objective to bring Peace through Strength, and I could not be happier to be once again serving my country under our 29th Secretary of Defense, Secretary Hegseth," said Buckhout. "The Defense Department's cyber warriors are some of the most powerful force multipliers in our arsenal to deter aggression, secure our borders, and assist our allies in strengthening their own defenses. It's going to be an exciting and very fulfilling position, and I look forward to standing up with our warfighters to defend our nation."

Buckhout is a retired Regular Army Colonel with 26 years of world-wide assignments and deployments, including commanding a battalion level task force as part of the initial spearhead attack into Iraq in 2003.

French presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen sentenced to jail: Live Updates

A Paris court has barred the right-wing politician from taking part in the 2027 election French and foreign politicians are reacting to sentences handed down on Monday by a Paris court in a case against the far-right National Rally party (RN) and several of its most prominent figures, including Marine Le Pen, the party’s former leader who currently heads its parliamentary faction. “Some believe it’s a UFO, while others think it could be smoke or a rare weather phenomenon,” Seattlesubmissions1, an Instagram account dedicated to the Emerald City with more than 160,000 followers, wrote Sunday alongside a brief gallery of user-submitted photos.

“Have ya’ll seen Nope?” one Instagram user commented. Others commented that it is connected to SpaceX or Elon Musk specifically.

KIRO Newsradio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan posted a video on X of the dark ring formation.

A meteorologist from the National Weather Service confirmed with KIRO Newsradio that they are aware of the unusual black ring, but it was not related to any weather phenomenon.

“It was nothing atmospheric related or meteorology related in terms of what we know, what occurred naturally in the atmosphere or nothing that we saw on satellite,” Jeff Michalski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle, said.

“This looks like it was all due to the event that was going at Lumen Field.”

Many witnesses agreed, commenting it could be connected to pyrotechnics used during the Supercross Championship, which was held at Lumen Field.

“I was gonna post that cause I was at the Supercross thing and make people think it’s an alien ship,” one Instagram user wrote.

A Russian actor who starred in the Oscar-winning movie 'Anora’has been listed on the notorious Ukrainian state-linked Mirotvorets (Peacemaker) database. Mark Eydelshteyn has been accused of attacking “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

Spider eggs on Mars? NASA scientists spot strange, mysterious object on Red Planet

Scientists, with the help of NASA's Perseverance Mars rover, found a strange object on the Red Planet.

The object looks like a cluster of hundreds of spider eggs. In a statement, the US-based space agency said that last week, the Perseverance Science Team was shocked by a strange rock comprised of hundreds of millimetre-sized spheres.

The team is now working hard to understand their origin and the mystery behind it.

NASA revealed that it has now been two weeks since Perseverance arrived at Broom Point, which is situated at the lower slopes of the Witch Hazel Hill area on the Jezero crater rim.

They said that a series of light-and-dark-toned bands were visible from orbit in the region. In fact, the rover successfully abraded and sampled one of the light-toned beds just last week.

The space agency said that Perseverance found the strange texture in a nearby rock from this sampling workspace.

NASA informed that the rock has been named "St. Pauls Bay" by the team. It appeared to be comprised of hundreds of millimetre-sized, dark grey spheres.

Some of the spheres occurred as more elongated, elliptical shapes, while others possessed angular edges, perhaps representing broken spherule fragments.

Some spheres even possessed tiny pinholes. Scientists are stunned by what geological process could produce these strange shapes.

Strange objects on Mars

This is not the first time scientists have spotted strange-looking objects on Mars as the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity spotted so-called, "Martian Blueberries" at Meridiani Planum in 2004.

The Curiosity rover has observed spherules in the rocks of Yellowknife Bay at Gale crater.

In 2024, Perseverance found popcorn-like textures in sedimentary rocks exposed in the Jezero crater inlet channel, Neretva Vallis.

Perseverance Mars rover

The Perseverance Mars rover has been exploring Mars since its landing on February 18, 2021.

Its main goal is to search for signs of ancient microbial life and collect samples of rock and regolith for a possible return to Earth.

The rover is equipped with seven instruments, including a radar system called RIMFAX. It also has a robotic arm with a turret that can analyze geologic samples from the Martian surface.

Perseverance landed in the Jezero crater, which scientists believe was once flooded with water and home to an ancient river delta.

The crater is about 28 miles wide and is located on the western edge of a flat plain called Isidis Planitia.

KYIV, Ukraine—“Everything,” Dmytro Zolotukhin tells me, “is going like they wanted.”

Slumped in a chair in a café here in the Ukrainian capital, Zolotukhin wasn’t talking about the campaign of Volodymyr Zelensky, a comedian who is favored to win the country’s presidential elections this weekend, or the incumbent, Petro Poroshenko. No, they are the Russians. Moscow has used Ukraine as a disinformation laboratory for years—and Zolotukhin is one of the men charged with fending them off.

The Kremlin stands accused of interfering in elections the world over, driving division in societies through an array of tactics, chief among them online disinformation. Using fabricated or misleading news stories and fake accounts, Russian operations have sought to sow doubt in the democratic process. Ahead of European Parliament elections next month andthe American presidential contest in 2020, Putin’s online armies are auditioning their tactics in Ukraine.

The substance of Grusch’s previous claims remains startling in its implications for our understanding of non-human intelligence.

In a June 2023 interview with News Nation, he asserted that the United States possesses “quite a number” of non-human vehicles that might originate from extra dimensions rather than necessarily from other planets.

Although Grusch has acknowledged never personally witnessing non-human intelligence, he maintains he has been convinced by testimonies from witnesses he considers highly credible.
