Lia Thomas Feels ‘Devastated,’ Stricken with ‘Grief’ Over Trans Athlete Ban

Lia Thomas, the infamous transgender UPenn swimmer, says he is “devastated” after a ban on transgender swimmers was initiated in international swimming events.

According to GB News, Thomas, who controversially took opportunities from female competitors during the 2022 NCAA championships, was recently the keynote speaker at HiTOPS’ annual Trans Youth Forum, where he discussed the trans ban.

After reportedly transitioning, the now 25-year-old former swimmer claimed that he was surprised when he was permitted to compete on the UPenn women’s team.

“I looked up the NCAA transgender policy [during freshman fall] and knew it might be technically possible. … I didn’t think that I could do it,” Thomas explained.

Thomas insisted that sports should be “athlete-driven,” not driven by gender or sex.

“It has to be the athletes deciding for themselves where they feel most affirmed and most comfortable,” Thomas said.

But after World Aquatics ruled that transgender athletes may not compete in women’s sports, Thomas found his swimming career sinking.

“I felt so devastated and grief over losing this access to my sport,” Thomas said.

“There was no doubt in my mind that I was going to fight this, that this is my sport too, and I’m not just gonna give it up to trans folks,” he added.

So far, there has been no hint that World Aquatics will change its policy anytime soon.

Further, the bans on transgender athletes have spread to other sports. The Trump administration has also worked to ban trans athletes from schools that take federal education dollars. Republicans are also working to codify that ban by passing legislation to back the president’s move.

An Arizona congressman introduced legislation Monday to remove the federal judge who has blocked President Donald Trump's efforts to deport Venezuelan gang members, offering a novel path that avoids the impeachment process and the need for two-thirds support in the U.S. Senate.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., filed a resolution that would remove U.S. District Judge James Boasberg for “failing to maintain the standard of good behavior required of judges" under Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution.

“Most Americans believe that there is lifetime tenure for a federal judge. That unless impeached, a federal judge can serve until death," Biggs told Just the News. "But lifetime tenure is not guaranteed, nor mentioned, in the Constitution. Article III, Section 1 permits a federal judge to serve only ‘during good behavior.’”

Biggs argued the clause gives Congress the authority to remove judges that it believes have failed to uphold that standard short of using impeachment.

Boasberg, who serves on the federal bench in Washington D.C., blocked the Trump administration from using the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport illegal immigrants, who were alleged members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. He also ordered government planes en route to El Salvador and carrying the alleged gang members to return to the United States.

Boasberg is only one of several federal judges that have blocked administration policy, ranging from firings of bureaucrats, shuttering of agencies, and attempts to abolish birthright citizenship.

Biggs said he believes many of these judges have overstepped their authority and reached outside their narrow judicial districts, and that Congress should take the reigns, invoking the Constitutional provision, to fire ones that make politically biased decisions that fall short of grounds for impeachment.

“[W]hat about a judge who has a conflict of interest and refuses to recuse himself from the case with which he has a conflict? Or, what if he has repeatedly supported publicly a political figure and vigorously denounced, not just on policy grounds, but on more virulent grounds, his political opponent?" Biggs asked.

"Then a case involving the political adversary comes before him, and he insists on hearing the matter instead of recusing?” Biggs asked. "You see, impeachment doesn’t work in these and other similar instances. The jurisdiction limitation against nationwide injunctions also doesn’t prevent an unjust, biased determination," he added.

“Maybe, however, firing such a judge could be the answer. It would certainly be specific deterrence that would prevent that type of misconduct from such a judge. And it would provide general deterrence in that all other federal judges would think more about applying the law to the case rather than attempting to twist the law so that the judge can attack a political adversary,” the congressman said.

Biggs’ resolution targeting Boasberg argues that the judge’s injunction blocking deportations of alleged Venezuelan gang members infringed upon the president’s “constitutional prerogatives” and therefore is an abuse of power.

“The Constitution grants the President broad and expansive powers over the conduct of foreign policy and to ensure national security against foreign threats,” the resolution reads. “As such, outside questions of the constitutionality of a provision or action, the Constitution places foreign policy decisions by the President and Congress beyond the scope of review by the courts along with actions taken pursuant to those decisions.”

Where Boasberg overstepped, the resolution argues, is when he “knowingly interfered with the President’s execution of foreign policy by ordering the return of members of a designated foreign terrorist organization to the United States.”

By issuing this order, Biggs contends, “Boasberg knowingly extended beyond the bounds of power of his office and unjustly interfered in the execution of foreign policy and national security for partisan purposes of halting the implementation of the President’s foreign policy and for political gain.”..

“The Senate also confirms judicial nominations by a simple majority vote of 51. The finding that a judge has violated terms of ‘good behavior’ should also be affirmed by a simple majority of votes in the Senate and House,” Biggs told Just the News.

There is an enormous problem in our nation’s military, one that I have not seen discussed in depth elsewhere.

I have heard from multiple sources that many active duty officers openly and deeply despise the Trump Administration, and they are not at all shy about expressing their opinion both in and out of uniform.

One active duty major I know estimates that it’s 1 in 4 who have this problem.

This is an astonishingly bad problem. Putting aside for the moment that this is a clear violation of Article 88 of the UCMJ, this is how military coups take place.

I guess I should not be surprised given Mark Milley’s traitorous actions towards his Commander-in-Chief, but the fact that this has permeated to lower levels of the officer corps surprises me and causes me great worry.

For reference, in my 22 years of commissioned service (starting in the late ‘80s), it was virtually impossible to know the political leanings of ANY officer unless they were an extremely close friend.

Many officers purposely had no political preferences of any kind. In fact, I knew many officers who refused to even vote because it suggested that they were somehow partisan…

Doctors Say Trump’s Political Opponents Suffering Anxiety, Uncertainty, Despair, Guilt

President Donald Trump’s political opponents, who tried to imprison him, bankrupt him, remove him from the ballot, and make him politically irrelevant by introducing a partisan committee to investigate January 6 — and whose inflammatory rhetoric created a ripe environment for two assassination attempts — are now suffering health issues, according to health experts.

Doctors say the issues include anxiety, uncertainty, despair, guilt, depression, insomnia, grief, fear, and panic.

“There is an element of chaos right now,” Georgetown University psychology professor Andrea Bonior told Axios. “A sense of not knowing what’s coming and not being able to control what’s coming is really hard on the stress response.”

Trump took immediate action after taking the oath of office in January. In just three weeks, he signed over 75 executive orders, memos, and proclamations, outpacing previous presidents. Read more on those actions here.

As Trump took swift action, Democrat lawmakers enlisted psychologists to help them cope. Republicans mocked the move.

“As humans, we don’t love uncertainty,” said Bonior, who sees patients in Washington, DC. “It’s something that we don’t tend to tolerate well. And then when we’re anxious, it’s excruciating.”

Dr. Glenn Burnett, an internist from Wyoming, told journalist Mark Halperin on Thursday that the health issues have “a lot to do with Donald Trump and the fears of what he’s going to do or what’s happening in the country.”

“We are dealing with depression, anxiety, all kinds of medical problems that are related to that, like insomnia, chest pain, chest pressure,” he said. “And then people are that [sic] — there’s some genuine fear, panic.”

Burnett said he advises his patients to turn off computers and televisions to restore their mental health.

“I think we can take so much of something before the human brain just like peters out and says, ‘I can’t keep up,'” neuropsychologist Sanam Hafeez from New York told Axios.

“We are in an unprecedented time that we have so many collective stressors going on, and the rapid fire of media coverage of these policy changes, it’s just adding to that broader collective stress,” added Daniel Relihan, a researcher at the Silver Stress and Coping Lab at University of California, Irvine.

In October, Halperin predicted that if Trump won the election it might be the “cause of the greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.”

He told Tucker Carlson:

I think tens of millions of people will question their connection to the nation, their connection to other human beings, their connection to their vision of what their future for them and their children could be like. And I think that it will require an enormous amount of access to mental health professionals. I think it’ll lead to trauma in the workplace … I think there’ll be alcoholism. There’ll be broken marriages.

Weekend Box Office: A Working Man Takes Down Snow White

Jason Statham's latest action film managed to dethrone Snow White just one week after its debut, ending a disappointing March potentially unlike any we've seen in two decades.

Movie theaters and Hollywood will be happy to put this month behind them. Like, way, way behind them. The pandemic years of 2020-21 notwithstanding, this is about to go down as the worst March since 1995, when all films grossed $313 million. This year the number is headed below $400 million for the first time since the country was not in lockdown or just warming up to a new vaccine. Even 2020, with half a March, grossed over $253 million. Given the way the month’s best chance for a reasonably high-grosser is performing though, this could also end up being the first time this month has not produced a $100 million film since 2004.

Earlier this week on Business First AM, I stated that the latest Jason Statham/David Ayer collaboration had a chance to overtake Snow White if the Disney film fell hard enough. While A Working Man may not have exactly put up Beekeeper numbers, it didn’t matter, as $15.2 million was enough to take the No. 1 spot this weekend. Last year’s The Beekeeper began with a $16.6 million weekend and became a solid hit with over $66 million domestic and $150 million globally. A Working Man’s numbers are actually really solid for Statham. Apart from battling a giant shark, being Expendable, beekeeping, or transporting something, this is better than any of the other Statham headliners. This one clearly draws from the success of last year’s film, though it isn’t as well reviewed and may drop off faster, but for now, the Statham/Ayer team-up is working. The $40 million production only needs to make two-thirds of Beekeeper’s final gross to break even for Amazon/MGM. It is at $30.2 million globally.

The numbers were pretty clear last week that Snow White was headed for a rough run. After it failed to clear $100 million worldwide last week, virtually every path to breaking even was demolished. The only question that remained was just how bad could it get. How does a 66% drop in weekend two sound? Not good, Doc. $14.2 million was Snow White’s haul, lower than Dumbo’s $18.2 million sophomore weekend. That puts it now $10 million behind the elephant’s pace with $66 million, and it leaves us to ask whether it can achieve $100 million domestically. The good news is that it is still possible. The bad news is that it’s a moot point for its bottom line.

Just last year, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire opened to $45 million this month and dropped hard (-65.4%) to a $15.5 million second weekend. In 10 days it had grossed $73.2 million and finished its run with over $113 million. In 2019, Dumbo was higher than that with $76.2 million but finished with only $114.7 million. The wild card is that family audiences will be drawn to Minecraft next weekend, which could put Snow White even further behind the pace of those two films. Frozen Empire never dropped more than 42.7% in its next six weeks. Not everyone is reading those hit pieces on Rachel Zegler that the trades published. Maybe audiences are just rejecting another less-than-stellar effort. Dumbo was at 46% on the Tomatometer. At time of publication, Snow White is at 40%. It could not even win that battle, though with just $143 million worldwide on a $270 million budget, “win” is not a word that will be associated with Disney’s latest live-action bomb.

U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights Issues Final Warning Letter to Maine on Title IX Compliance

Today, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) issued its final warning to the Maine Department of Education (MDOE) for its ongoing refusal to comply with Title IX. The letter sent to MDOE is the final step in OCR’s Title IX investigation before turning over the results of this investigation to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for enforcement.

On March 19, OCR provided MDOE with a proposed Resolution Agreement to voluntarily resolve its Title IX violations or risk imminent enforcement action. Since then, MDOE has taken no action to protect women and girls from discrimination in sports or intimate spaces. Today’s letter of impasse notifies MDOE that unless it signs a Resolution Agreement by April 11, OCR will refer the matter to DOJ for proceedings, which could result in termination of MDOE’s federal education funding.

“The Maine Department of Education’s indifference to its past, current, and future female athletes is astonishing. By refusing to comply with Title IX, MDOE allows—indeed, encourages—male competitors to threaten the safety of female athletes, wrongfully obtain girls’ hard-earned accolades, and deny females equal opportunity in educational activities to which they are guaranteed under Title IX,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor. “Under prior administrations, enforcement was an illusory proposition. No more. The Trump-McMahon Education Department is moving quickly to ensure that federal funds no longer support patently illegal practices that harm women and girls.”

ROME — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently published a sharp letter excoriating the Vatican’s plans to renew an agreement with the Chinese government on Church operations in China. He promoted the article in a tweet, concluding, “The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal.”

An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.

“Pompeo asked to meet” the pope, who turned him down because Francis had “clearly said that he does not receive political figures ahead of the elections,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who, as secretary of state, is the Vatican’s second-ranking official, told reporters.

But to some observers on both sides of the tensions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Trump administration, Mr. Pompeo’s visit is as much about the coming presidential election as about China policy. Mr. Pompeo dismissed that suggestion as absurd, but intended or not, his trip signals that President Trump is on the side of those conservative American Catholics who worry about the church’s direction under Francis and think he is soft on China.
