Feeding Our Future: 3055 Old Highway 8 (re)visited

Your correspondent visits the scene of the (alleged) crime.

They say that the map is not the terrain. In that spirit, your correspondent visited, in person, the office building where Feeding Our Future is located in St. Anthony, Minnesota.

3055 Old Highway 8, now known as the St. Anthony Business Center, was once home to Medtronic’s corporate headquarters. The two-building site occupies a stranded piece of property bounded by the new Highway 88 and a residential neighborhood.

We previously noted that the building houses more than just Feeding Our Future. It is a multi-story, multi-tenant building that also hosts two other large free-food operations.

MAK Community Enrichment and Success Institute continue to be active in the federal free-food programs.

Although Feeding Our Future has gone out of business, not one person has been arrested or charged in the scandal. Two involved individuals have been arrested on charges of passport fraud.

Ironically, the 3055 address is itself listed as a free-food distribution site, but by the rival organization Partners in Nutrition, along with a small site for the on-premises child-care center.

At the peak, the site claimed the capacity to serve 11,000 children per day, more than the entire population (children and adults) of St. Anthony.

We can report that the parking lot for the complex appears adequate to serve the office buildings. But it would be incapable of serving thousands of children passing through to pick up free food.

Beyond free food, the 3055 address is a beehive of entrepreneurial activity. But unlike the heyday of Medtronic and other Minnesota-grown Fortune 500 companies, the focus appears to be on extracting taxpayer dollars through government entitlement programs.

The state Department of Human Services (DHS) lists twelve (12) licensed home and community care (personal care assistant (PCA)) businesses located at the 3055 address.

Of the twelve, seven are vendors of DHS, with total site revenue exceeding $2 million per year. Activity in the state programs has noticeably ramped up in recent years.

There is a connection between the nondescript office building in St. Anthony and another nondescript office building in nearby Brooklyn Center.

3300 County Highway 10 anchors a four-building office complex at the intersection of Bass Lake Road and Brooklyn Boulevard. The complex hosts twenty PCA businesses:

In addition to the 18 listed above, the site hosts two individuals licensed as PCAs. Of the 18 PCA companies located in the complex, 14 are vendors to DHS, taking in nearly $11 million a year in revenue. All 20 businesses are listed as active and currently licensed by DHS.

Again, activity by these companies appears to have ramped up considerably over the past two years. If only Minnesota could harness this effort for the private sector.

Across dozens of U.S. states, parents are losing their children based on drug test results that courts should never have trusted. From Alaska to Georgia, California to Ohio, laboratories have been caught falsifying test results, billing for unnecessary procedures, and engaging in illegal kickback schemes, yet their services are still being used in family courts. These labs, many of which have already faced Department of Justice investigations or civil settlements, continue to supply the very tests that child protective agencies and juvenile courts rely on to justify emergency removals and terminations of parental rights. In states like Indiana and Kentucky, parents have lost custody after being falsely flagged as drug users. In Missouri and Utah, courts have relied on unconfirmed positives to delay or deny reunification. In Ohio, even antacids were misidentified as narcotics.

The legal consequences are staggering. The Fourteenth Amendment protects a parent’s right to the care and custody of their child. Supreme Court precedent in Santosky v. Kramer (1982) and Troxel v. Granville (2000) affirms that parental rights are fundamental and require rigorous due process protections. Yet in case after case, these rights are steamrolled by faulty drug tests rubber-stamped by courts without challenge or oversight. Even more alarming is the constitutional violation under the Fourth Amendment. In Ferguson v. City of Charleston (2001), the Supreme Court held that drug testing for law enforcement purposes without informed consent was unconstitutional. In the child welfare arena, the same principles apply, ]yet thousands of parents are being subjected to testing under threat of losing their children, with no safeguards in place.

The legal framework is clear, when state actors violate constitutional rights using flawed evidence, they may be held liable under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. But for many parents, the damage is already done. Children are uprooted. Families are fractured. And in too many cases, these removals are permanent. This isn’t just a legal crisis, it’s a human one. Child welfare systems are using unreliable drug testing as a shortcut to remove children rather than a tool to assess actual danger. Until courts demand verified, scientifically sound evidence and allow parents a real chance to defend themselves, the system will remain dangerously broken

The DRDO has successfully conducted the trial of Mk-II(A) Laser- Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) at the National Open Air Range (NOAR) in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to an ANI report quoting DRDO officials, the trial enables DRDO to master the technology of disabling missiles, drones and smaller projectiles.

The Mk-II(A) DEW system has been developed indegenously.

During the trial, the full capability of the weapon was showcased by engaging the fixed-wing drones at long range, thwarting a multiple drone attacks and destroying enemy surveillance sensors and antennae.

The lightning speed of engagement, the precision and the lethality delivered to the target within few seconds made it the most potent Counter Drone System, reported ANI.

The system was developed by DRDO's Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS), Hyderabad, in collaboration with LRDE, IRDE, DLRL and academic institutions and Indian industries.

How does the DRDO laser weapon work?

Once detected by a radar or by its inbuilt Electro Optic (EO) system, laser-DEW can engage targets at the speed of light and use an intense beam of powerful light (Laser Beam) to cut through the target, leading to structural failure or more impactful results if the warhead is targeted.

This type of cutting-edge weaponry has the potential to revolutionize the battlespace by reducing the reliance on expensive ammunition while also lowering the risk of collateral damage.

The DEW will soon be replacing traditional kinetic weapons and missile defence systems due to its ease of operation and cost-effectiveness.

The requirement for cost-effective defence solutions to offset the low-cost drone attacks is driving the adoption of DEWs by military organisations worldwide.

The cost of firing it for a few seconds is equivalent to the cost of a couple of litres of petrol. Therefore, it has the potential to be a long-term & low-cost alternative to defeat the target.

The Ukrainian military has targeted two energy facilities in Russia’s Belgorod Region over the past 24 hours, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted a proposal by his US counterpart Donald Trump to adhere to a 30-day pause on targeting energy facilities operated by Kiev and Moscow during their phone call on March 18.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky also said that his country would abide by the truce. However, the Russian military has since accused Kiev’s forces of breaching the partial ceasefire on an almost daily basis.

“In violation of the Russia-US agreement, Kiev continues its unilateral attacks on Russian energy infrastructure,” the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

On Saturday evening, more than 600 households were left without electricity in Belgorod Region’s Shebekinsky District of as a result of the “deliberate shelling” of a local energy facility by Ukrainian forces, the statement read.

On Sunday morning, another bombardment of energy infrastructure by Kiev’s troops led to power shortages in the village of Stepnoye in Krasnoyaruzhsky District, it added.

The Kremlin said that Russia is abiding by the truce and has refrained from targeting Ukrainian energy facilities in order to build goodwill with Washington, but it also warned that Moscow reserves the right to pull out of the 30-day agreement early if it is not honored by Kiev.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has previously suggested that Ukraine is deliberately violating the partial ceasefire in an attempt to undermine peace initiatives and the dialogue between Russia and the US.

Hotez named nearly a dozen viruses. The one that seemed to stick was measles. The headlines started, “An unvaccinated child in Texas has died from measles.” That turned into massive, rapid hysteria, as only the MSM can do. The script writers managed to cram all the talking points in one article:

A Wisconsin teen allegedly killed his parents to "obtain the financial means and autonomy necessary" to kill President Donald Trump and overthrow the U.S. government, federal authorities said in court documents.

Nikita Casap, 17, was arrested in March and charged with two counts of first-degree murderand two counts of hiding a corpse, according to Waukesha County authorities. Other charges include theft of property over $10,000 and misappropriating ID to obtain money.

Court documents show investigators are pursing federal charges including conspiracy, presidential assassination and use of weapons of mass destruction.

The teen's stepfather, Donald Mayer, 51, and mother, Tatiana Casap, 35, were both found dead inside their home by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department on March 1, according to a press release from the department.

The sheriff's department issued a search warrant and say they found material on the teen's phonerelated to "The Order of Nine Angles," which is "a network of individuals holding new-Nazi racially motivated extremist views," according to investigators.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation reviewed documents allegedly written by the teen, which calls for the assassination of Trump and the start of a revolutionto "save the white race,"according to federal court documents.

The alleged writings shows images of Adolf Hitler with the following text: "HAIL HITLER HAIL THE WHITE RACE HAIL VICTORY," according to court documents. (So how can Trump be a Nazi, when American Nazis hate him?)

"He was in touch with other parties about his plan to kill the President and overthrow the government of the Unites States. And he paid for, at least in part, a drone and explosives to be used as a weapon of mass destruction to commit an attack," investigators said in the federal affidavit.

"Other parties, with whom Casap was in contact, appear to have been aware of his plan and action and to have provided assistance to Casap in carrying them out," according to the affidavit.

Casap was in court on April 9 for a preliminary hearing on his state charges. He has not yet offered a plea and remains in custody. His next court appearance is for an arraignment on May 7, according to the Waukesha County court docket.

Europe dismantles 'Hezbollah drone supply network' spanning four countries

A sophisticated Hezbollah logistics network operating across Europe was dismantled between summer 2024 and early April 2025, according to a report by French daily Le Figaro on Friday.

The group, involving individuals of Lebanese origin, is accused of sourcing and shipping components for the construction of military drones, with the final destination believed to be Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.

The investigation began in Catalonia, where Spain's Guardia Civil detected unusual purchases of drone-related materials in mid-2024.

The suspects, reportedly Lebanese nationals, operated through Spanish companies they controlled.

According to investigators cited by Le Figaro, these purchases included materials and components capable of producing hundreds - possibly up to a thousand - drones, raising alarm over their potential use in hostile operations.

Among the materials seized were electronic guidance systems, propulsion propellers, dozens of gasoline engines, over 200 electric motors, and several tonnes of resin and composite substances used to manufacture drone fuselages, wings, and other parts.

The intended use of these items was to build drones capable of carrying several kilograms of explosives.

Investigators suspect that similar components may have already been used in drones launched by Hezbollah against Israeli targets.

The materials were not only sourced from Spain, but also from other European countries and beyond, suggesting a vast and well-organised procurement operation.

Arrests in Spain and Germany

Spanish authorities uncovered further links to Germany, where one of the alleged traffickers had established a base of operations.

Spanish police contacted Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), leading to coordinated arrests on 14 July 2024.

That day, three Lebanese nationals were arrested in Spain — two in Barcelona and one in the nearby town of Badalona.

The suspects were living discreetly in the centre of Barcelona, near the famous Sagrada Familia basilica.

According to Le Figaro, two of them were released under judicial supervision, with passport confiscations and travel bans, while the third suspect was placed in pre-trial detention.

The Spanish judge's ruling identified the detained man, Firas A.H., 38, as part of a group of Lebanese nationals based in Spain and Germany, all allegedly linked to Hezbollah.

He is suspected of purchasing materials "that could be converted into weapons of war capable of targeting civilian and military sites in Israel and Europe".

The judge confirmed that although the group had no active plans to carry out attacks in Europe, the "final destination" for the materials was Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Spanish authorities believe the group was on the verge of shipping a significant quantity of these drone components by sea to Lebanon, which they say posed a "serious threat" to regional security.

In parallel, German authorities arrested another Lebanese national, Fadel Z., in the town of Salzgitter, Lower Saxony.

According to Germany's federal prosecutor, Z. had joined Hezbollah no later than the summer of 2016.

Since early 2024, he had allegedly purchased components for military drones - particularly engines - which were intended for export to Lebanon and use in terrorist attacks against Israel.

The investigation continued into 2025. On 1 April, the Spanish Guardia Civil carried out another raid in the same Barcelona apartment searched in July 2024, arresting three additional suspects.

Two were placed under judicial supervision, while a third was jailed on charges including membership in a criminal organisation, financing criminal activity, and trafficking fake documents.

The investigation soon widened beyond Spain and Germany. In France, the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) arrested a suspect in April 2025.

The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a judicial investigation was launched on 4 April.

The individual was indicted and placed in custody on charges of belonging to a terrorist group and preparing acts of terrorism involving crimes against persons.

Meanwhile, UK authorities made their own arrests.

On 3 April 2025, British counter-terrorism police detained two men in northern London, Le Figaro reported.

A 39-year-old was arrested on suspicion of membership in a banned organisation — Hezbollah has been designated a terrorist group in the UK since 2019 — as well as for preparing "terrorist acts" and "financing terrorism".

A second man, aged 35, was arrested on suspicion of membership in a banned group. Both were released on bail and are expected to return to court by mid-July.

Weekly 'firebomb' drone drops into a Dublin prison yard have been "stopped overnight" thanks to a new state-of-the-art wire mesh.

We have learned that the Irish Prison Service constructed the new wire mesh over the D Yard of Mountjoy Prison after cunning criminals managed to set fire to packages that were dropped from drones and repeatedly burned through the old net on a weekly basis.

The construction of the new material, which sources say is far more impenetrable, is believed to have stopped a major crime gang's ability to drop drugs and mobile phones into the yard overnight.

It comes in tandem with a major garda operation this week that targeted the suspected ringleader of a behind-bars operation utilising these drones to drop drugs, phones and other illegal items into the yard.

The good news also comes amid a major crisis for Mountjoy Prison – which we can reveal has hit an all-time population high of over 1,000 prisoners this week.

Sources say the drone problem had become so bad that a Dublin based gang was managing to have packages dropped into the yard on a weekly basis – meaning potentially thousands of euro worth of illicit items were making their way into the prison.

Sources say the new netting has stopped the gang in their tracks overnight – and joint cooperation with Gardai – who carried out raids this week, has left the gang reeling.

A violent criminal serving time for serious offences was also arrested as part of the garda operation.

Officers questioned the prisoner, believed to be in a dispute with the West Dublin-based gang known as 'The Family,' as they carried out raids on various properties in Clondalkin, Ballyfermot, Coolock and Tallaght on Tuesday.

During those searches, Gardai from the South Serious Crime Unit with assistance from the Dublin Crime Response Team found phones wrapped in insulation tape ready to be sent by drone to the prisons.

Controlled drugs including €17,000 cannabis, €5,000 cocaine, €3,000 tablets were also seized along with €22,000 in cash, a drone, a Rolex watch, mobile phones, financial documents, improvised weapons and drug paraphernalia including weighing scales and bagging equipment.

As part of that investigation, Gardai also searched two other cells in Mountjoy – though no one else was arrested and no contraband found.

Meanwhile Mountjoy Prison is dealing with a new low in the overcrowding crisis – with its population reaching over 1,000 prisoners for the first time ever this week.

On Wednesday there were 1,004 prisoners in Mountjoy – even though it only has a bed capacity for 807 prisoners.

The number further shows the scale of the overcrowding crisis on the prison system – and comes after this paper revealed fears that the total prisoner population is set to reach an all-time high of 5,500.

As of Wednesday that number stood at 5,393 despite there being a bed capacity for just 4,641prisoners.

Sources say there are three prisoners in cells that are designed for just one person – with many lags sleeping on mattresses on the floor.

In a statement the Irish Prison Service (IPS) said it "must accept into custody all people committed to prison by the courts.

As such, the Prison Service has no control over the numbers committed to custody at any given time."

It said that it makes every effort to deal with overcrowding "through a combination of inter-prison transfers and structured Temporary Release."

As of Friday there were 598 prisoners on temporary release, according to IPS, who also told us it is "working closely with the Department of Justice to take steps to ensure a safe working environment for staff, and the safety and security of people in custody."

It stated the government has made "significant capital funding available, to enhance the prison infrastructure and provide additional capacity."

The IPS also cited an 18 per cent increase, of €79m, in Budget 2025 towards €525m in funding to increase prison capacity and support prisoner services.

It further stated its capital budget for this year is €53m, an increase of €22.5m on 2024 – and stated the money was being used to bring additional prison spaces.

It added: "The Prison Service continues to engage with the Department of Justice to support the target of 1,500 additional places as set out under Programme for Government."

Fury over plans for 'spy dungeons' beneath new Chinese embassy in London

The Conservatives have accused Keir Starmer of adopting ‘a policy of appeasement’ towards China.

Downing Street is under fire over revived plans to build a vast Chinese "super embassy" in London — a proposal previously blocked by the former Conservative government.

Planning documents for the proposed site, located at the historic Royal Mint buildings near the Tower of London,reveal “two suites of anonymous unlabelled basement rooms and a tunnel”, with their intended purpose redacted “for security reasons”.

The Conservatives have accused the government of "appeasement" towards Beijing, warning the so-called "dungeons" could be used for espionage or to intimidate dissidents, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Levelling Up Secretary Kevin Hollinrake has written to Prime Minister Keir Starmer,claiming the government has been caught "red-handed in an attempt to ram this mega-embassy" through the planning system.

He added:"It would be a barbarous irony that a site so close to the medieval Tower of London could become a modern-day dungeonunder a Starmer government."

Mr Hollinrake also criticised the "striking" level of redactions in the embassy’s planning documents, asking: "Why does the use of the basement rooms need to be redacted, given they are not in public sight and there is no public access?"

He warned: "This subterranean zone will undeniably be used for intelligence work by the Chinese Communist Partyand its arm, the United Front Work Department.

But there is also a chilling prospect that it could be used for the abduction, intimidation or torture of anti-Chinese dissidents living in the United Kingdom."

The original embassy planswere blocked under the Conservative government following objections from British intelligence agencies and Scotland Yard, who raised concerns about the proximity of sensitive data cables that could be intercepted by Chinese spies.

But the application was resubmitted in January this year, shortlybefore Chancellor Rachel Reeves visited China. President Xi Jinping is said to have personally lobbied for the embassy’s approval.

The government has yet to comment publicly on the renewed application. Meanwhile,internal divisions persist over whether to officially classify China as a hostile state alongside Iran and Russia.

Man killed in house explosion

April 13, 2025

A man has died in a house explosion that wrecked multiple properties and led to dozens of evacuations.

Homes in John Street, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, were evacuated and emergency services were called to the scene just before 20:00 BST on Saturday.

Two terraced houses were destroyed in the blast while neighbouring properties were also damaged.

On Sunday, police confirmed the body of a man, in his 50s, had been found in the wreckage.

Nottinghamshire Police said emergency services treated the man but were unable to save him and he died at the scene.

The explosion was declared a major incident by emergency services on Saturday evening.

Everyone else who may have been in the area at the time has been accounted for, police added. An investigation is under way to establish the cause of the explosion.

A total of 35 properties in the area have been evacuated, with 48 residents needing alternative accommodation, said Julie Leigh, leader of Bassetlaw District Council.

She said the council had provided alternative accommodation at the nearby Crown Place Community Centre, while others have been staying with family and friends.

Ch Insp Clive Collings said: "This is an extremely serious incident that has led to a man's untimely death.

"The man's family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

"I have no doubt that this incident will have come as a shock to the community in Worksop."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) said specialist urban search and rescue teams were called in to search the area after the blast.

Later, demolition workers - including a cherry picker vehicle - attended the scene after midday on Sunday.

Residents, who live near John Street, described "chaos" in the wake of the explosion.

They said they had heard a loud crashing sound which immediately prompted a large number of people to rush out into the street.

One resident told the BBC there was thick black smoke in the street as some people ran towards the wrecked house to try to help.

Bryony Wilkinson, who lives in John Street and was in her house at the time of the explosion, said: "It started off with a really loud bang and afterwards the whole house felt like it was shaking.

"It put me into shock and I froze for five seconds. I could hear a commotion outside and saw the black smoke outside."

On Sunday afternoon, a police spokesperson at the scene told the BBC that firefighters had ended their search operation.

Meanwhile, demolition company Elite Group Demolition said it was waiting for permission to remove a dangerous wall.

A Cadent gas van also passed though the cordon.

Purvi Srikenthan, who runs the Today's Local shop on nearby Sandy Lane, said she had been helping provide free food to families who were staying at the community centre.

The 43-year-old said: "We are here to help local people because we are part of the community.

"There's a lot of families and children affected so we thought we might be able to help them and provide food.

"I only just heard the news that a man has died which is really sad. I feel so sorry for that family and all of the people who are affected."

Crews from fire stations in Warsop, Worksop, Mansfield and Clowne arrived at the scene soon after the explosion.

Andy Wade, 59, says he lives 2.5 miles (4km) away but arrived at the scene because he knew the man who died.

He said he "kept himself to himself most of the time". "I just heard a bang and I thought that's loud," Mr Wade said.

"About 20 minutes later it all started appearing on Facebook and everyone got in touch with me to say there's been an explosion on John Street.

"When the photos started coming through I knew whose house it was. I don't know the circumstances but I'm obviously very upset."

The UFO expert who released a new video this week showing the infamous tic tac has revealed bombshell theories about the phenomena.

Jeremy Corbell, an investigative journalist and filmmaker known for his work with George Knapp on military-documented unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), has once again ignited public debate over UFOs - this time with newly released footage captured aboard the USS Jackson in 2023.

The video, made public Tuesday after a multi-year verification process, shows what Corbell and military witnesses describe as a 'self-luminous, wingless, tailless' craft rising from the Pacific Ocean.

But Corbell insists the new footage is far from an isolated event. Instead, he says it fits a broader and increasingly alarming pattern: repeated sightings of intelligently controlled craft that defy known aerodynamics, appear regularly in the same offshore military training zone, and may originate from below the ocean's surface.

According to Corbell, the 2023 incident echoes two other major military encounters: the 2004 Nimitz sighting and a lesser-known but well-documented 2019 event in which a swarm of UAPs surrounded ten Navy warships over multiple nights.

The new footage, he argues, is not a standalone revelation but part of a growing body of evidence pointing to intelligently controlled craft - capable of transmedium travel (moving seamlessly through space, air, and water) - that have repeatedly appeared over decades in the same region: Warning Area 291, off the coast of Southern California.

The 2023 release was supported by a new military witness: an active-duty U.S. Navy combat information center (CIC) operator who claims to have seen the object rise from the ocean with his own eyes.

Corbell and Knapp, known for handling sensitive testimonies, vetted the witness and aligned his account with radar data and FLIR imagery.

The Navy veteran tracked the object using the ship's high-powered SAPPHIRE FLIR thermal targeting system. Radar detected four unknown targets in the area, though two were captured on video.

According to the witness, all four UAPs performed an instantaneous, synchronized maneuver - shooting off simultaneously without visible propulsion, suggesting intelligent coordination.

'It's become a working theory among people close to this that there's an underwater base or installation off the California coast,' Corbell said. 'That's the speculation from the sailors themselves.'

He believes the 2004 and 2023 cases may point to ongoing interactions with a concealed presence beneath the ocean - one that remains unacknowledged by authorities and largely unknown to the public.

What the footage shows

The video, which Corbell emphasizes is not from an iPhone but from a weapons-grade military camera system, shows a heat signature in the shape of a smooth, oblong object.

Crucially, it lacks any thermal exhaust or propulsion trails - features that experts would expect from conventional aircraft.

'In the footage, what you don't see is just as important as what you do,' Corbell said.

'No wings, no tail, no flight control surfaces, no heat plumes. You're seeing a perfect 'Tic Tac' - and it came from under the water. This is not a glitch. This is a trained military crew, on one of the Navy's most advanced ships, using the best tech available.'

According to Corbell - and based on testimony from firsthand witnesses - radar tracked four of these craft during the incident. One of them, he says, was 'targeted' in the FLIR footage.

Witnesses reported that the four objects performed an instantaneous, synchronized maneuver - 'shot off all at once', as the navy veteran described - suggesting coordination or communication between the craft.

In 2004, pilots aboard the USS Nimitz strike group tracked what would become one of the most well-known unidentified anomalous phenomena in modern history.

The so-called 'Tic Tac' was observed dropping from over 80,000 feet to sea level in less than a second - without producing a sonic boom and without any detectable propulsion.

The event was corroborated by visual sightings, radar data, and FLIR footage recorded by Lt. Cmdr. Chad Underwood.

What baffled Navy personnel most, according to Corbell, was the object's apparent interaction with the ocean.

Commander David Fravor, who witnessed the encounter, described the craft as 'communicating' with something beneath the surface.

Whitewater and a circular disturbance were observed at the spot where the object hovered - alongside what witnesses described as a solid, X-shaped object beneath the surface.

He also emphasized that in both cases, the objects appeared to engage in some kind of interaction with the ocean - 'docking' with something unseen under the surface in 2004, and in 2023, possibly emerging from an underwater structure or facility.

In 2019, Corbell released a trove of videos, direct witness testimony, and radar data showing dozens of UAPs swarming ten U.S. Navy vessels over several nights.

The objects hovered, maneuvered unpredictably, and often flew in formation - again, without any visible flight surfaces or conventional propulsion systems.

Weaponization, reverse engineering, and congressional testimony

Beyond publishing footage, Corbell has been instrumental in bringing military whistleblowers - including David Grusch and Cmdr. Fravor - before Congress to testify under oath.

'There are people who've testified under oath that the U.S. government is in possession of non-human intelligence craft,' he said.

'Grusch testified to this in Congress: biologics were recovered at crash sites. That means beings.'

He believes the propulsion systems demonstrated by these craft - likely gravitational- represent an extraordinary leap forward in science and defense.

'These craft likely use gravitational propulsion. If you can master that, it changes everything - energy, defense, transportation,' he said. 'And it's been confirmed under oath: the U.S. is engaged in reverse engineering programs.'

The implications, Corbell warns, are immense.

'It's the biggest secret because the stakes are that high,' Corbell said. 'This is a technological cold war. Whoever masters this propulsion wins everything - economically, militarily, geopolitically.'

'If this was China or Russia and they've leapfrogged our tech, we're screwed. If it's non-human, it's a different kind of problem. Either way, we have to know.'

Why release the video now?

For Corbell, releasing any footage of this nature is a calculated decision - one that requires painstaking verification and close consultation with military and intelligence contacts.

With the 2023 footage, he worked with aviation experts, intelligence sources, and even consulted flight trackers to rule out known commercial or military craft.

'Every time I release something like this, I become a target for misinformation,' he explained.

'There's a responsibility. I inform the Pentagon. I let intelligence agencies know ahead of time. We don't release anything that endangers national security.'

Still, Corbell insists the public deserves transparency - and awareness.

'UFOs are considered a matter above weapons of mass destruction,' he said. 'Why? Because the energy produced by these craft could be weaponized.

'If a craft can drop from space to sea level in a second, it could deploy a payload and vanish. That's strategic surprise, and that's what we have to avoid.'

The bigger question

After years of investigation, Corbell says the deeper question is no longer if these craft are real, but why they're here - and what their presence means.

'I'm confident these aren't from any known technological civilization on Earth. Are they extraterrestrial? Interdimensional? Ultra-terrestrial? I don't know. What I do know is - they are here. And it's time we ask why.'

Folks all over Texas were left wondering “What is that?” when looking into the sky on Saturday, April 12, between the hours of 9-10 p.m.

Videos and photos circulating social media have put people into a frenzy, trying to figure out what, or who, is in the sky.

Sightings from Fort Worth to the Rio Grande Valley were reported and one video shared with MySA shows us what happened in real time.

In the video taken by Jossi Stivens in Orla, a bright, white light was seen flying (or gliding) slowly through the night sky, before it looked like it let out a puff of smoke that formed a ring, with the object continuing to fly forward before the light faded away.

And before we could do some digging on the matter, the comment sections and replies to some of the posts were just too good to pass up.

“Saw it and then saw the aliens hit the vape and blow a smoke ring… Try explaining that to the fam…” one commentor said in a post on a post by Hill Country Scanner on Facebook.

More comments flooded in with other suggestions of what it could be from the Starship Enterprise to the Millennium Falcon hitting hyper space (we nerds are united) to a good ol’ UFO.

In another post on Reddit, folks went straight to jokes. “End of days before 1604 and 35 highway project is completed? Figures,” user u/TrippTaco12 said.

“Those were aliens. They saw us, locked their doors, and got outta dodge,” user u/DragonsLoooveTacos said.

Alas, although unconfirmed, the most likely theory is that Elon Musk’s SpaceX launched more Starlink satellites across the sky.

Some digging into the matter from some folks revealed that close to 8 p.m. Saturday night, “Falcon 9 launched 21 Starlink satellites, including 13 with Direct to Cell capabilities, to low-Earth orbit from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.”

SpaceX Starlink launches have reportedly been mistaken by casual stargazers as UFOs for years.

The exhaust gases emitted in a plume from the Falcon 9 rocket is known to cause visual phenomenon and is often followed by a line of lights in the sky.

So was it Wemby’s real family or just more coverage for Starlink internet users? We can’t know for sure. But as far as we do know, the speculation always leads to some funny moments on social media.

Police say they are investigating an arson attack at the Pennsylvania governor’s residence

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were evacuated overnight from the official governor’s residence after someone set fire to the building, police said Sunday.

No one was injured and the fire was extinguished, according to authorities.

The fire broke out overnight on the first night of the Jewish holiday of Passover, which Shapiro and his family had celebrated at the governor’s official residence in the state capital of Harrisburg. Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement that, while the investigation was ongoing, they were “prepared to say at this time that this was an act of arson.”

State police gave no other details about the cause of the fire at the riverfront mansion but said it caused a “significant amount of damage” to a portion of the residence. Shapiro and his family had been in a different part of the residence, police said.

WASHINGTON — White House physician Sean Barbabella released a memo detailing the results of President Donald Trump's annual physical on Friday, writing that the president is in "excellent health."

Trump exhibits "robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function," Barbabella wrote. "His active lifestyle continues to contribute significantly to his well-being."

"President Trump’s days include participation in multiple meetings, public appearances, press availability, and frequent victories in golf events," he continued. "President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State."

The physical included diagnostic and laboratory testing, according to Barbabella's memo. The physician also consulted with fourteen specialty consultants, he added.

Barbabella noted in his diagnostic summary that Trump has scarring on his right hear from a gunshot wound, referring to the assassination attempt on the president in Butler, Pennsylvania, last summer.

The memo said that Trump's heart, lungs, eyes, hearing and abdominal exam results were all normal. His blood pressure was slightly elevated, at 128/74, and the dermatological exam revealed "some minor sun damage and a few benign lesions," the memo said.

His routine lab work appeared to be within the normal ranges for blood count, kidney, liver and thyroid tests. Trump's cholesterol appeared to be well controlled though medication and his blood sugar is within normal limits.

The president also underwent "a comprehensive neurological examination," which did not indicate any abnormalities, Barbabella wrote.

Trump completed the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a common screening tool for cognitive impairment that typically takes about 10 minutes, achieving a normal result with a score of 30 out of 30, Barbabella said.

Judicial Watch announced today it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for records regarding Jeffrey Epstein, including any records on the identities of clients or associates of Epstein (Judicial Watch Inc. v. Epstein died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The Justice Department on February 27, 2025, released a long-awaited trove of documents related to Epstein. As stated by the New York Post: “But the much-hyped, roughly 200-page document dump provided no big revelations, instead listing celebrities and politicians who were already known to have palled around with the notorious pedophile.”

Trump extends Russia sanctions for 12 months

The US claims Moscow still represents an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to its national security

Washington placed punitive restrictions on Russia after it absorbed Crimea following a referendum held in 2014, and later over Moscow’s alleged meddling in American elections. The sanctions were drastically expanded following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022.

The latest extension approved by Trump and dated April 10, 2025, has been posted to the Federal Register’s website, announcing the “Continuation of the National Emergency With Respect to Specified Harmful Foreign Activities of the Government of the Russian Federation.”

It refers primarily to Executive Order 14024 signed by former President Joe Biden in April 2021 in response to an “unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and the economy of the United States” presumed to be posed by Russia.

Among the “harmful” activities ascribed to Russia in the document are “efforts to undermine the conduct of free and fair democratic elections and democratic institutions in the United States and its allies and partners.”

Some of Moscow’s other alleged transgressions are attempts to “undermine security in countries and regions important to United States national security; and to violate well-established principles of international law, including respect for the territorial integrity of states.”

Late last month, the US president lamented that there was still “a lot of ill will between” Ukraine and Russia.

Trump has also threatened to impose new sanctions on Moscow if he deems Russia responsible for any failure in ceasefire talks on the Ukraine conflict.

Commenting on Trump’s threat, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said last week that “our dialogue with the American side is ongoing,” and that Moscow remains open to resolving the Ukraine conflict diplomatically.

The Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) pledged to send 21 billion euros ($23.7 billion) in future military aid for Kiev. Under the Joe Biden administration, Washington led the UDCG and was the largest contributor to the Western proxy war in Ukraine.

Following a meeting of the UDCG on Friday, the bloc announced the new military aid for Kiev. The majority of the aid was pledged by Berlin and London. Germany agreed to send Ukraine €11 billion over the next four years. The UK plans to send £4.5 billion this year.

The UDCG was formed and led by the US to facilitate Western support for the proxy war in Ukraine. After Trump returned to the White House, the US stepped back as the group’s leader. London and Berlin are now co-heads of the organization. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth attended Friday’s summit remotely.

Discussing Berlin’s pledge, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius argued, “Given Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, we must concede (that) peace in Ukraine appears to be out of reach in the immediate future.” He added, “We will ensure that Ukraine continues to benefit from our joint military support.”

President Trump is making a major push to bring the war to an end with a diplomatic settlement. US and Russian officials met in Turkey on Thursday, with both sides describing the talks as positive. On Friday, Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, traveled to St. Petersburg to meet with President Valdimir Putin.

UK Defence Secretary John Healey accused Putin of misleading the US about Russia’s interest in ending the war. “Putin said he wanted peace, but his forces continue to fire on Ukraine,” he said.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who attended Friday’s summit, explained that Europe was now “taking the lead in security assistance for which we are thankful to the UK and Europe.” He noted that Washington has continued to send Kiev military aid.

Pistorius said Berlin’s pledge to send billions in weapons to Kiev over the next four years is because “Russia needs to understand that Ukraine is able to go on fighting, and we will support it.”

According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the German pledge includes 4 IRIS-T air-defence systems with 300 guided missiles, 300 reconnaissance drones, 120 MANPADS, 25 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 15 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, 14 artillery systems, 100 ground surveillance radars, 30 PATRIOT guided missiles, and 100,000 rounds of artillery ammunition.

An internal whistleblower told the U.K. newspaper that Black and Asian applicants are labeled as “gold” category candidates and are encouraged to apply at any time. White candidates from Britain, Ireland, and Eastern Europe, meanwhile, are “bronze” applicants.

Rather than focusing on how qualified an applicant is, the branding effectively sees candidates prioritized initially purely on the color of their skin.

According to documents reviewed by The Telegraph, the whistleblower expressed concerns to senior management over the application process, stating:

“The process restricts progression opportunities for White British candidates, while individuals from other backgrounds are swiftly advanced through recruitment stages.”

“We are currently accepting applications for the two police constable entry programmes (uniform and detective) from people from our under-represented groups… If you are not from one of these groups, please keep checking this page for future recruitment opportunities,” reads the recruitment page of the West Yorkshire Police website.

The force, Britain’s fourth-largest, insisted that “enabling people from an ethnic minority background to apply early does not give them an advantage in the application process” and that all applications are held until recruitment is opened for everyone.”

It claimed the current system simply allows the force to “attract talent from a pool of applicants who reflect the diverse communities we serve.”

West Yorkshire, a county in the north of England, has become an increasingly diverse area of Britain with a large Asian population, particularly from India and Pakistan.

All 15 Arizona counties have now begun the process of verifying and removing noncitizens from their voter rolls, including nearly 50,000 registrants who did not provide proof of U.S. citizenship.

AFL filed the lawsuit against the 15 Arizona counties last year on behalf of EZAZ.org, and Yvonne Cahill, a registered voter and naturalized citizen, arguing that the counties had not been following a state law that requires proof of citizenship to vote in local and state elections and for the state to do monthly checks of the rolls for noncitizens.

As a result of the lawsuit, the 15 counties have now begun working with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to verify the citizenship status of all registered voters in the state who failed to provide proof of citizenship.

Catholic hospital argues 35-week unborn child was not a legal person in malpractice case

A Catholic health care provider in Iowa is arguing, in an attempt to limit its financial liability in a medical malpractice case, that a baby who died in the womb at 35 weeks’ gestation should not be considered a “person” under the law.

Iowa Capital Dispatch reports that Miranda and Landen Anderson filed a lawsuit after the stillbirth of their daughter, Eloise, in April 2021.

When she was 34 weeks pregnant, Miranda came to Pella Regional Health Center with high blood pressure, headaches, and edema, which are all signs of preeclampsia, a potentially life-threatening pregnancy complication for both mother and child.

Miranda was transferred to MercyOne’s Obstetrics Emergency Unit, part of Catholic Health Initiatives-Iowa (CHI), where she was monitored for two days before being discharged. Miranda returned for further evaluations in the days that followed, but she was again sent home.

On April 21, doctors could no longer detect a fetal heartbeat. The next day, Miranda delivered Eloise via cesarean section.

The Andersons’ lawsuit alleges that CHI and its physicians failed to recommend early delivery, a decision they say would have saved Eloise’s life. The case accuses the hospital of negligence in managing Miranda’s worsening condition.

CHI’s legal team argues that the family’s damages should be capped under Iowa’s 2017 malpractice law, which limits noneconomic awards to $250,000 unless there is “loss or impairment of mind or body.” According to CHI, that exemption does not apply to the loss of a fetus.

In court filings, CHI and MercyOne state that the law does not recognize an unborn baby as a “person” or a “patient,” asserting that the 35-week-old unborn child does not qualify for the damage exemption.

“There is no statute or binding case law finding an unborn child to be a ‘patient’ under the law,” CHI’s attorneys wrote, citing a 1971 Iowa Supreme Court decision which held that damages cannot be awarded “on behalf of, or for, a nonexistent person.”

CHI’s 2018 ethics guidelines state that it is committed to respecting “the sacredness of every human life from the moment of conception until death.”

Attorneys for the Andersons argue that this interpretation not only contradicts Catholic moral teaching but also ignores legislative intent. In 2023, Iowa lawmakers added “loss of pregnancy” to the list of exceptions for the damages cap. CHI claims this was an expansion of the law; the Andersons argue it merely clarified existing protections for unborn life.

The hospital is now seeking a court order to enforce the $250,000 damages cap. A hearing is scheduled for later this month. The full trial is set for May 12.

Iowa Capital Dispatch reports that a spokesperson for MercyOne said the hospital does not comment on pending litigation.

Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Arrested on Federal Embezzlement Charges

Massachusetts State Representative Chris Flanagan was arrested Friday morning on federal embezzlement charges after prosecutors alleged he stole approximately $36,000 from a former employer to cover campaign expenses, personal debt, and shopping purchases.

A prominent state politician has been charged with multiple counts of assault against his wife of more than three decades.

South Australian independent MP Nick McBride attended Adelaide's Norwood Police Station on Thursday, where he was charged with three counts of assault on a person known to him.

In the early 1990s, James Swanson was working as a research psychologist at the University of California, Irvine, where he specialized in the study of attention disorders. It was a touchy time for the field. The Church of Scientology had organized a nationwide protest campaign against the psychiatric profession, and Ritalin, then the leading medication prescribed to children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, was one of its main targets. Whenever Swanson and his colleagues gathered for a scientific conference, they were met by chanting protesters waving signs and airplanes overhead pulling banners that read, “Psychs, Stop Drugging Our Kids.”

It was true that prescription rates for Ritalin were on the rise.The number of American children diagnosed with A.D.H.D. more than doubled in the early 1990s, from fewer than a million patients in 1990 to more than two million in 1993, almost two-thirds of whom were prescribed Ritalin. To Swanson, at the time, that increase seemed entirely appropriate. Those two million children represented about 3 percent of the nation’s child population, and 3 percent was the rate that he and many other scientists believed was an accurate measure of A.D.H.D. among children.

Still, you didn’t have to be a Scientologist to acknowledge that there were some legitimate questions about A.D.H.D. Despite Ritalin’s rapid growth,no one knew exactly how the medication worked or whether it really was the best way to treat children’s attention issues. Anecdotally, doctors and parents would observe that when many children began taking stimulant medications like Ritalin,their behavior would improve almost overnight, but no one had measured in a careful, large-scale scientific study how common that positive response was or, for that matter, what the effects were on a child of taking Ritalin over the long term. And so Swanson and a team of researchers, with funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, began a vast, multisite randomized controlled trial comparing stimulant treatment for A.D.H.D. with nonpharmaceutical approaches like parent training and behavioral coaching.==

Swanson was in charge of the site in Orange County, Calif.He recruited and selected about 100 children with A.D.H.D. symptoms, all from 7 to 9 years old. They were divided into treatment groups — some were given regular doses of Ritalin, some were given high-quality behavioral training, some were given a combination and the remainder, a comparison group, were left alone to figure out their own treatment. The same thing happened at five other sites across the continent. Known as the Multimodal Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Study, or M.T.A., it was one of the largest studies ever undertaken of the long-term effects of any psychiatric medication.

‘We have a clinical definition of A.D.H.D. that is increasingly unanchored from what we’re finding in our science.’

The initial results of the M.T.A. study,published in 1999, underscored the case for stimulant medication. After 14 months of treatment, the children who took Ritalin every day had significantly fewer symptoms than the ones who received only behavioral training.Word went out to clinics and pediatricians’ offices around the country: Ritalin worked. This was good news not only for families with children who struggled with attention issuesbut also for the corporations that offered them pharmaceutical solutions. In the years after the study’s initial publication, Swanson began consulting for drug companies. He advised Shire, which manufactured Adderall, a similar stimulant medication, on how to formulate an extended-release version of its product, so that children could take just one pill each morning instead of needing to visit the school nurse’s office in the middle of the day.

Edmund Sonuga-Barke, a researcher in psychiatry and neuroscience at King’s College London, described the situation in personal terms.“I’ve invested 35 years of my life trying to identify the causes of A.D.H.D., and somehow we seem to be farther away from our goal than we were when we started,” he told me. “We have a clinical definition of A.D.H.D. that is increasingly unanchored from what we’re finding in our science.

Despite the questions these scientists have begun to raise,the growth of the diagnosis shows no signs of stopping or even slowing down. Last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionreported that 11.4 percent of American children had been diagnosed with A.D.H.D., a record high. That figure includes 15.5 percent of American adolescents, 21 percent of 14-year-old boys and 23 percent of 17-year-old boys.Seven million American children have received an A.D.H.D. diagnosis, up from six million in 2016 and two million in the mid-1990s.

So where do you draw the line? How do you tell a normally rambunctious kid from a child with A.D.H.D.? The tool that clinicians use to make that distinction is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or D.S.M., which provides a checklist of symptoms to use in diagnosing patients, including nine potential symptoms for inattention and nine for hyperactivity/impulsivity. To qualify for the diagnosis, achild must display six symptoms from either category, of sufficient severity and level of impairment, for at least six months, starting before age 12, and those symptoms must be present in two different settings (like home and school).

That seems pretty scientific — six symptoms, two settings, six months, age 12 — and it reflects a longstanding effortby many in the field to portray A.D.H.D. as a straightforward medical condition with clear diagnostic boundaries. Russell Barkley, one of the most prominent A.D.H.D. researchers,has labeled the disorder “diabetes of the brain,” and in a lecture that has been viewed more than four million times on YouTube, he says that like diabetes, A.D.H.D. is “a chronic disorder that must be managed every day to prevent the secondary harms it’s going to cause.” In a recent article in ADDitude, a popular magazine for families and patients, Wes Crenshaw, a psychologist who is listed as a member of the magazine’s medical-review panel,drew the borders of A.D.H.D. even more sharply. “Your child either has A.D.H.D. or he does not,” Crenshaw wrote. “If he does have it, he is either impaired, or not. And if he is impaired, talk therapy or supplements or nutrition or exercise or discipline isn’t going to resolve that.”

Now, however, some scientists have begun to argue that the traditional conception of A.D.H.D. as an unchanging, essential fact about you — something you simply have or don’t have, something wired deep in your brain — is both inaccurate and unhelpful. According to Sonuga-Barke, the British researcher, the traditional notion that there is a natural category of “people with A.D.H.D.” that clinicians can objectively measure and define “just doesn’t seem to be the case.”

Accurately diagnosing A.D.H.D. can be challenging, for a number of reasons.Unlike with diabetes, there is no reliable biological test for A.D.H.D.The diagnostic criteria in the D.S.M. often require subjective judgment, and historically those criteria have been quite fluid, shifting with each revision of the manual. The diagnosis encompasses a wide variety of behaviors.There are two main kinds of A.D.H.D., inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive, and children in one category often seem to have little in common with children in the other. There are people with A.D.H.D. whom you can’t get to stop talking and others whom you can’t get to start. Some are excessively eager and enthusiastic; others are irritable and moody.

A.D.H.D. is defined in the D.S.M. as a neurodevelopmental disorder, but the symptoms of A.D.H.D. can be produced by a variety of environmental causes as well. Difficulty sitting still and sustaining attention can also be symptoms of a serious head injury, fetal alcohol syndrome, childhood lead exposure, early trauma and more.(or someone really bored with the person teaching or talking!)There is also a high rate of overlap between the symptoms of A.D.H.D. and those of other psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, dyslexia and autism.Although the D.S.M. specifies that clinicians shouldn’t diagnose children with A.D.H.D. if their symptoms are better explained by another mental disorder,more than three quarters of children diagnosed with A.D.H.D. do have another mental-health condition as well, according to the C.D.C. More than a third have a diagnosis of anxiety, and a similar fraction have a diagnosed learning disorder. Forty-four percent have been diagnosed with a behavioral disorder like oppositional defiant disorder.

This all complicates the effort to portray A.D.H.D. as a distinct, unique biological disorder. Is a patient with six symptoms really that different from one with five? If a child who experienced early trauma now can’t sit still or stay organized, should she be treated for A.D.H.D.? What about a child with an anxiety disorder who is constantly distracted by her worries? Does she have A.D.H.D., or just A.D.H.D.-like symptoms caused by her anxiety?

In 2002,Russell Barkley, then a professor of psychiatry and neurology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Schoolas well as the author of several popular books on A.D.H.D.,drafted an “international consensus statement,” signed by 85 prominent researchers, that defended the validity of the A.D.H.D. diagnosis. It leaned heavily on early studies that suggested that there were indeed solid biomarkers for the disorder, asserting, for instance, thatpeople with A.D.H.D. had “less brain electrical activity” in certain regions than those without the diagnosis; that a single gene had been found to be associated with the disorder; and that people diagnosed with A.D.H.D.had “relatively smaller areas of brain matter.”

In the years since the consensus statement was published, however,the evidence for each of these A.D.H.D. biomarkers has faltered. Attempts to replicate the studies that showed differences in brain electrical activitycame up empty. And though scientists have identified complex collections of genes that together may be signs of greater risk for A.D.H.D.,they have failed to find a specific gene that predicts the disorder. “There is no single-gene story,” John Gabrieli, an M.I.T. neuroscientist, told me recently. “Fifteen years ago, there was incredible optimism, and now we realize how far away we are.”

‘There literally is no natural cutting point where you could say, “This person has got A.D.H.D., and this person hasn’t got it.”’

The most ambitious effort to find a biomarker for A.D.H.D. was run by the Enigma Consortium, a global network of scientists that shares brain-scan data from more than 4,000 subjects. Earlier studies had found indications of physical differences in the brains of patients diagnosed with A.D.H.D. — the “relatively smaller areas of brain matter” in Barkley’s statement.But when a team led by Martine Hoogman, a Dutch neuroscientist, spent years comparing the “cortical volumes” of Enigma subjects diagnosed with A.D.H.D. with those of a control group, the results were once again disappointing.Among adults and adolescents, there was no difference at all between the two groups; among children, the differences were so minor as to be almost imperceptible. As Edmund Sonuga-Barke told me, “What Enigma showed is that what we thought was there isn’t really there.”

To the surprise of many, when Hoogman and her teampublished their results in 2017, they claimed that the data, in fact, showed the opposite, conclusivelydemonstrating the biological nature of A.D.H.D.: “We confirm, with high-powered analysis, that patients with A.D.H.D. have altered brains;therefore A.D.H.D. is a disorder of the brain,” the researchers wrote. “This message is clear for clinicians to convey to parents and patients, which can help to reduce the stigma of A.D.H.D. and improve understanding of the disorder.”

When I interviewed Hoogman by email recently,I was surprised to learn that she now wishes she could have revised that statement. “Back then, we emphasized the differences that we found (although small), but you can also conclude that the subcortical and cortical volumes of people with A.D.H.D. and those without A.D.H.D. are almost identical,” she wrote.In retrospect, she added, it wasn’t fitting to conclude from her findings that A.D.H.D. is a brain disorder. “The A.D.H.D. neurobiology is so much more complex than that.”

Sonuga-Barke goes further,arguing that the entire decades-long quest for a biomarker has been “a red herring” for the field. He understands his colleagues’ desire to find airtight evidence for the biological nature of A.D.H.D. that could help them defend the diagnosis against those who would dismiss it altogether. “In the field, we’re so frightened that people will say it doesn’t exist,” he says. “That this is just bad parenting, from the right, or this is just a product of our postindustrial society, from the left.We have to double down because we’re terrified of what will happen to the kids who can’t get the meds. We’ve seen the impact they can have on people’s lives.”

California, other states sue Trump administration over clawback of COVID School Funds

California and a coalition of other states sued Thursday to block the Trump administration’s attempt to take back hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding intended to support the academic recovery of students whose education was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. (No it wasn’t, it was done by the Teachers Union and Governors that shut their states down. Georgia wasn’t shut down.)

The previously awarded funding — including more than $200 million for California alone — is currently being used by schools for after-school and summer learning programs, student mental health services,new classroom technology and other infrastructure needs, all of which would be in danger if the funds are stripped away, California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta said in an interview with The Times. (What’s that have to do with Covid?)

While the COVID-19 emergency has ended, the negative impacts of school closures and on-line learning persist, with students across the country lagging behind academically, Bonta said.

The Biden administration had granted an extension to use the funds. But Education SecretaryLinda McMahon announced last month that the funding would be immediately rescinded because the pandemic is over. Bonta called the action “arbitrary and capricious” and therefore illegal under federal law.

“The Biden administration extended the funding because the funding is not related to just a state of emergency. It’s related to ongoing challenges, like the ongoing mental health challenges that students are facing, that we all know about and that have been well documented, [and] the need to address learning loss,” Bonta said. “It’s a complete fallacy and a red herring to suggest that, since the state of the emergency is over, the funding should end, too.”

California’s lawsuit, which it filed alongside 14 other states and the District of Columbia in federal court in New York, alleges McMahon’s withdrawal of funding violates the Administrative Procedure Act, and calls on the court to preempt serious harm the withdrawal will cause to the states’ students by immediately restoring access to the funds through March 2026.

Neither the Education Department nor the White House immediately responded to a request for comment Thursday. Several school districts in the L.A. region also were unable to comment.

McMahon’s March 28 letter, sent to school districts around the country, was one of the latest moves by the Trump administration to eliminate or claw back federal funding previously allocated to the states — part of a wider effort by the administration to eliminate what it calls waste, fraud and overspending by a bloated federal government.

Trump has directed McMahon to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, and in early March laid off about half of the agency’s employees,which California and other states are also suing to stop. Democrats have criticized Trump’s stated intention of shuttering the Education Department as illegal and reckless — it would take an act of Congress to shut it down entirely — and many in Congress similarly blasted McMahon’s attempt to rescind remaining COVID-19 funds.

“Extending deadlines for COVID-related grants, which are in fact taxpayer funds, years after the COVID pandemic endedis not consistent with the Department’s priorities and thus not a worthwhile exercise of its discretion,” McMahon wrote.

She said that new extensions would be considered on “an individual project-specific basis,” upon request by districts.

In their own April 7 letter, Democratic members of Congress — including Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and a handful of House representatives from California — called on McMahon to reverse the decision immediately, saying many districts had received extensions more than six months prior to McMahon’s letter and already allocated the funding.

The lawmakers called McMahon’s move an “abrupt and chaotic revision of policy” that was “not helpful to students,” and said they were alarmed by McMahon’s “lack of recognition of the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on our nation’s students.”

The lawmakers alleged McMahon’s decision was “yet another way this administration is seeking to strip educational opportunities for students in order to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and large corporations.”

Bonta said there may be a lawful way for the White House and the Education Department to carefully review educational funding and reassess individual grants, but McMahon’s sweeping decision — on the argument that COVID-19 disruptions have ended — was “not it.”

Thursday’s lawsuit is the 13th filed against the current Trump administration by Bonta’s office, and not the first based on allegations that the Trump administration has violated the Administrative Procedure Act.

“We believe he has broken the law again here and in the process deprived children, America’s students, of critical funding,” Bonta said. “We’re not going to stand for it and we’ll see them in court.”

The funding in question was originally allocated under two 2021 measures, the American Rescue Plan Act and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.

California was joined in the lawsuit by Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and the District of Columbia. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro also joined, though the state — represented by a Republican attorney general — did not.

Other litigation is also pending against the Education Department.

A lawsuit brought by the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates and two parents last month alleges the Trump administration’s hollowing-out of the department has hampered investigations by its Office for Civil Rights into school-based discrimination.

“Even as OCR generally stopped investigating complaints from the public based on race or sex discrimination, it cherry-picked and, on its own initiative, began targeted investigations into purported discrimination against white and cisgender students,” the complaint alleges.

On Thursday, several additional parents and students with pending discrimination claims joined the case,which asks the court to “restore the investigation and processing capacity of OCR and to process OCR complaints promptly and equitably.”
