The son of a prominent Indiana pastor has been arrested and charged with multiple child sex crimes, including possessing child pornography. He was also found to be in possession of dozens of intimate videos of his own parents having sex.

Jonathan Peternel is the son of Nathan Peternel, lead pastor at Life Church in Pendleton, IN. He was arrested after a cyber tip came in that Peternel was sharing videos on Snapchat.

“Detectives got a search warrant for Jonathan Wesley Peternel’s Snapchat account, where detectives say more child sex abuse material was found, along with evidence that Peternel was sharing videos with others.

A search warrant on Peternel’s home led detectives to find more than 200 files of child sex abuse material, some of which included sadomasochistic child abuse, children who appeared to be drugged or intoxicated while being abused, violent child molestation and AI-generated photos of nude pregnant toddlers.”

Investigators also found more than 50 videos on Peternel’s phone of his parents nude or engaged in sex acts. He has been charged with one count of child exploitation (Level 4 felony), two counts of possession of child sex abuse material (Level 5 felonies), and one count of possession of child sex abuse material (Level 6 felony).

If convicted on all charges, he could face more than 20 years in prison.

A son of a prominent Indiana pastor faces multiple felony counts linked to child sexual abuse material after an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation led detectives to seize electronic devices containing hundreds of files.

Jonathan Wesley Peternel, 24, of Noblesville, Indiana, was arrested Oct. 23 after the Hamilton County Metro ICAC Task Force executed warrants. They stemmed from a CyberTip alerting authorities to Peternel’s uploads on Snapchat, according to a statement released by investigators.

Peternel is the son of Nathan Peternal, lead pastor of Life Church, a multi-site church based in Noblesville, Indiana. One of the campus pastors of Life Church is Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith, who co-hosts a podcast with Nathan Peternel called, “Jesus, Sex & Politics.”

The shocking pornography haul included “more than 50 photos and videos” that appeared to show Jonathan’s parents nude or engaged in sex acts, according to a probable-cause affidavit reviewed by The Roys Report (TRR). It also shows a graphic 18-minute video of a screaming young girl being raped.

In an initial appearance in Madison County Circuit Court 6, Jonathan Peternel pleaded not guilty to charges including child exploitation (a Level 4 felony) and possession of child sexual abuse material (Level 5 and Level 6 felonies). He remains in custody at the Madison County jail pending additional proceedings, court records show.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democrats have taken a bold stand by vowing to starve as many food stamp recipients as it takes to get free healthcare for illegal immigrants.

According to prominent Democratic leaders, starving a couple million kids is a small price to pay to ensure that blue states continue to provide free healthcare to illegal immigrants.

A New Hampshire man has lost his right to vote after repeatedly vandalizing and stealing Trump campaign signs from his neighbor’s property, another glaring example of left-wing intolerance toward free speech and political expression.

According to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, Nick Moorhead, 55, of Northfield, pleaded guilty in Franklin District Court to “unlawfully removing political signs.”

Moorhead admitted to targeting a local resident’s Trump sign multiple times, an act that clearly wasn’t a one-off impulse but a pattern of politically motivated harassment, Boston 25 News.

Court documents reveal that Moorhead was caught on camera on August 27 and 28, 2024, removing the Trump sign from the homeowner’s yard and damaging it.

The homeowner, tired of the repeated vandalism, moved the sign closer to the house, only for Moorhead to return on September 15, kick the sign, and flip off one of the residents in a brazen act of hostility.

Police arrested Moorhead on October 19, 2024, following an investigation.

The court fined him $310, a $250 fine plus a $60 penalty assessment.

However, the most striking consequence came under the New Hampshire Constitution, which stripped convicted individuals of their right to vote unless the state Supreme Court restored it.

For a man so eager to silence others’ political voices, that’s poetic justice.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office reminded the public that anyone who believes political signs have been unlawfully removed should report it immediately to local law enforcement or the Election Law Unit.

A month ago, a few veterans of President Obama's first White House bid were sharing a couple of bottles of wine at a bar in Washington's Columbia Heights neighborhood, wondering why Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was not handily winning the election. So they decided they needed to make a direct pitch to all the people who had worked in the trenches for the past two elections: “Do it for Obama.”

Wednesday night, they posted the culmination of their efforts: a nearly four-minute exhortation for the Obama faithful to mobilize in the final days of this campaign. It features plenty of higher-profile Obama alumni — including former presidential body man Reggie Love,2012 national field director Jeremy Bird,2012 national director of Operation Vote Buffy Wicks and former Organizing for Action director Jon Carson — talking about why electing Clinton is critical to cementing the president's legacy.

Anne Filipic, who met her husband Carlos Monje Jr. while canvassing caucusgoers on Obama's behalf in Davenport, Iowa, in June 2007, holds her son and declares: “I know Hillary will not only continue on the legacy for all the things we fought for, all the things we have fought so hard for, but also the legacy she has built in her own right.”

The president himself is trying to urge many of his most devoted supporters — including African Americans, who are voting early in lower numbers than they did four years ago — to head to the polls. On Thursday, Obama held rallies in Miami and Jacksonville, Fla., telling crowds they should be just as enthusiastic about the prospect of Clinton in the White House as they were about his own candidacy.

In many ways the video — snippets of political operatives in their living rooms or offices, interspersed with campaign footage from 2008 and 2012, as well as Obama's speech from this summer's Democratic national convention — capture the passage of time. Multiple staffers offer their testimonials beside campaign co-workers they've married; one shot shows Alex Okrent, who died suddenly at the age of 29 in July 2012 when he was working on Obama's reelection. New York state Assemblyman Michael Blake, who worked on both of the president's campaigns and in the White House before winning office, also appears in the video.

Liz Jaff, who ran regional field operations in several states during Obama's first White House bid and led get-out-the-vote efforts on Election Day in Ohio in 2012, said in an interview that when she and other campaign veterans became “teary-eyed” discussing the election in late September, they decided, “Oh, my God, we need to get really emotional so anyone who’s not doing everything possible for Hillary will go out and do something.”

Josh Burstein, a digital staffer on the 2012 campaign who now works at the site Tribute, offered to host the video submissions. Tara McGowan, another Obama alumna who is digital director for the Democratic super PAC Priorities USA, drafted three questions to which individuals could reply on tape. Jaff spent “a couple bucks on a soundtrack,” and Frank Chi, who worked on Obama's 2008 ads as well as on Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-Mass.) race, edited the video along with McGowan and made the website.

“We will just spread it as far as it can,” Jaff said.

Whether the video translates into extra votes for Clinton is unclear. Jaff left for Ohio a week ago, where she is knocking on doors and making the case for Obama's aspiring successor.

“We were crazy for him,” she said. “So we should be crazy for her.”

The Great Space Spider That Hides a Secret

New images from the James Webb Space Telescope have revealed NGC 6537, the Red Spider Nebula in unprecedented detail, complete with sprawling legs, a glowing heart, and possibly a hidden companion lurking at its core.

 

NGC 6537 to use its official name designate it as the 6,537th object in the New General Catalogue and its classed as a planetary nebula, though it has nothing to do with planets.

These structures form during a star's dying act, when stars like our Sun exhaust their fuel and swell into red giants. Eventually, the outward pushing thermonuclear force overcomes the force of gravity and they shed their outer layers exposing the core.

Ultraviolet radiation from this exposed stellar heart makes the ejected material glow, creating the luminous structures we observe. It's a beautiful finale, but brie, typically only lasting a few tens of thousands of years before fading away.

 

Webb's Near Infrared Camera has done something quite remarkable with the Red Spider though.

While Hubble's optical images showed the central star as faint and blue, Webb's infrared vision reveals it glowing red, surrounded by a cloud of hot dust.

This dust likely orbits the star in a disc, invisible to our eyes but blazing in infrared wavelengths.

 

But here's where things get really interesting. Despite only one star being visible, the observations suggest there's a hidden companion that may be sculpting the shape.

The nebula's distinctive hourglass shape with its pinched waist and wide outer regions, is a telltale sign of a binary system.

Similar structures appear in other planetary nebulae like the Butterfly Nebula, where stellar companions sculpt the ejected material into elaborate forms.

 

The spider's legs are perhaps the most spectacular revelation. These vast lobes, stretching three light years each and shown in blue in the images, are traced by molecular hydrogen, two hydrogen atoms clinging together.

Webb's wide field of view captured their full extent for the first time, revealing them as closed, bubble like structures inflated by thousands of years of outflowing gas.

 

Meanwhile, something dramatic is still happening at the nebula's heart. An elongated purple 'S' shape marks where fast moving jets of ionised iron burst outward from near the central star, slamming into previously ejected material.

These collisions have sculpted the rippling patterns we see today.

 

These observations are part of a research program led by J. Kastner, investigating how bipolar planetary nebulae acquire their shapes through stellar outflows and jets.

Understanding these processes helps us to piece together the final chapters of stellar evolution and offers a glimpse of what awaits our own Sun billions of years from now.

Europe turns to space to boost resilience

The role of space for security was presented at a high-level event in Brussels on Tuesday.

European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius set the stage for discussions on the potential for space to support security at a conference entitled "Space for European Resilience: rising to the collective challenge", citing the importance of secure intelligence, secure positioning, and secure communications and connectivity.

 

The activity was organised under the auspices of the Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union, and with the support of the European Commission, by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI).

ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher presented the European Resilience from Space programme, a new optional programme that will be open for subscriptions from Member States at next month's ESA Ministerial Council. The proposed system would integrate remote sensing, connectivity, PNT (positioning navigation and timing), spectrum monitoring, and Internet of Things systems, with the aim of providing users with the most secure, agile, and rapid response capabilities possible.

 

The ESA Director General said: "In this moment of rapid change, there is a critical need to synchronise European initiatives by aligning space for defence competencies, avoiding duplication and pooling resources for scale.

We still remain too fragmented to guarantee Europe with genuine, comprehensive and autonomous space resilience. We have an opportunity to change that, and we must."

 

The European Resilience from Space programme, to be proposed in Bremen on 26 and 27 November 2025, constitutes the first programmatic pillar supporting the future Earth Observation Governmental Service (EOGS) of the EU.

This service is aimed at providing highly reactive, dual-use, independent space-based Earth observation capabilities to deliver rapid, reliable, and secure data, products and services.

ESA Directorates central to the proposal were represented by Director of Earth Observation Simonetta Cheli and Director of Connectivity and Secure Communications Laurent Jaffart.

 

The conference also heard from representatives of the space agencies of France.

Switzerland, Poland, and Denmark following keynotes from Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Danish prime minister and Secretary General of NATO, Major General Pierre Ciparisse who is Commander of Belgium's cyber command, and European Interparliamentary Space Conference chairman, Mario Kadastik.

 

The future role of space for security will be further described in the EU budget being decided under the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034, in addition to the funding decisions to be made at ESA's Ministerial Council.

Today's event follows the success of the 3rd ESA Security Conference, hosted in Warsaw under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU in April 2025.

Gov. Gavin Newsom Signs Bill Allowing Electric Company To Use Taxpayer Dollars To Pay Their Liability For Fires

 

California Governor Newsom signed a bill into law that allows Edison electric company to start charging customers for any Eaton fire costs exceeding the state’s $21-billion wildfire fund. The bailout was quietly tucked into to the 231-page bill just before the deadline. Damages for the Eaton fire have been estimated to be as high as $45 billion.

Videos captured the January 7, 2025 inferno igniting under a century-old transmission line that Edison had not used for 50 years. The wildfire swept through Altadena, destroying 9,400 homes and other structures and killing at least 19 people. Edison now faces hundreds of lawsuits filed by victims who claim Edison failed to safely maintain its equipment and left in place the unused transmission line knowing that it posed a fire risk. Even though the utilities have raised electric rates to charge customers for billions of dollars of fire prevention work, their electrical equipment continues to spark blazes.

 

Edison is a generous donor to Gavin Newsom and recently gave $190,000 to the state Democratic Party, which is helping Newsom campaign for Proposition 50, which would redraw congressional districts.

The Gifted And Talented Education program (GATE) provides students with advanced curriculum and activities to foster creativity and critical thinking skills.

 

But many former students believe they were actually part of a secret CIA initiative to test the supernatural abilities of children with above average intelligence.

 

One woman, who claimed to be part of the program in the 1990s, shared a workbook she purportedly used during class, showing she was cracking codes and learning Russian.

Higher Ground Labs backs 13 startups to help Democrats win in 2018 and beyond

With 2018 midterms around the corner, the Democrats are looking for their answer to Cambridge Analytica, the Robert Mercer-backed political data firm that either won the 2016 election or tricked everyone into believing that it did, depending on who’s talking.

 

To that end, a prominent left-leaning accelerator is out with a new graduating class, just in time to gear up for November. Higher Ground Labs seeks to “supercharge” political startups with progressive causes at heart. The incubator and accelerator’s main cause is notching Democratic wins, from local to federal elections.

 

The group just announced a class of 13 politics-minded companies offering “innovative solutions” to get Democrats elected. The 13 new companies join 10 companies from Higher Ground’s 2017 class. The chosen startups will each receive around $100,000 each in seed funding, an invitation to Higher Ground’s accelerator bootcamp and proximity to the group’s star-studded advisory board, which boasts a former COO of the Obama Foundation, a former Clinton campaign CTO and current Strava chief product officer, a former FCC chairman, the guys at Crooked Media and the chief technology officer of the DNC, among many other high-profile names. The political accelerator’s investor list features notable names like LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Silicon Valley super angel investor Ron Conway.

 

“Last year, Higher Ground Labs invested in companies and entrepreneurs that provided game-changing technologies in Virginia’s state elections and the Alabama Senate race,” said Ron Klain, chair of the Higher Ground board and former White House aide. “Now, we are more than doubling the size of our portfolio, and will be backing two dozen companies that aim to have a major impact on the 2018 election, up and down the ballot.”

12-year-old discovers 2 possible new asteroid

An Ontario preteen may be one of the youngest Canadians to ever find an asteroid.

Siddharth Patel, a 12-year-old who lives in London, Ontario (west of Toronto), spotted two possible asteroids in September as part of a citizen science program that partners with NASA, according to the Toronto Star.

The two suspected space rocks are called 2024 RX69 and 2024 RH39 and are cataloged in the Minor Planet Center, which is a branch of the International Astronomical Union that reports and tracks asteroids and other small, naturally occurring space objects.

 

Siddharth told the Star he pursues his love of astronomy — he's been using a telescope since age five, supported by parents with no space background — after finishing school activities.

"Space was not really taught in schools," he said. "I really started doing things about space after I came back from school, because school is the academic time. And after that is the time when I pursue my interests and dreams."

 

While confirming the asteroids' orbits may take as long as a decade, Patel has another big project on his mind: becoming an astronaut. He recently joined the youth-focused Royal Canadian Air Cadets to learn how to fly a plane, the Star reported.

This is following the pathway of notable Canadian Space Agency astronauts such as Jeremy Hansen (who will fly around the moon as part of NASA's Artemis 2 mission next year) and Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian to command the International Space Station.

 

Siddharth found the asteroids through the International Astronomical Search Collaboration, which uses images from the Hawaiian Pan-STARRS facility and the Arizona-based Catalina Sky Survey for asteroid searches.

While Siddharth's two space rocks reside in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, the collaboration can also find near-Earth asteroids and trans-Neptunian objects (which orbit the sun beyond Neptune), according to NASA.

 

The provisional asteroid discoveries aren't Siddharth's only space accolades.

His image of Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) alongside the Milky Way received the People's Choice Award in DarkSky International's 2025 Capture the Dark photography contest.

"I love taking photos through my telescopes," Siddharth told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. "When I go to somewhere dark, or someplace that has lots of stars, it really ignites my sense of wonder. I've learned how mysterious space really is."

Higher Ground Labs started as an experiment. Progressive politics was not innovating quickly enough to keep pace with broader technological change and shifts in American attention. Presidential campaigns historically served as the only hubs for innovation, and their episodic reality prevented new technologies from having lasting impacts. If progressives were to realize an enduring electoral majority, it had to be built on the backs of campaigns and causes armed with world-class modern technology tools.

 

In 2017 and 2018, we raised $5.0 million and seeded 27 start-ups against this theory. We wedded private-capital to talented founders and provided programming, mentorship, business introductions, and other support as they tackled large, unsolved challenges. If our startups succeeded, progressive campaigns and causes could benefit enormously while remaining largely inoculated from their failures.

 

Our model was strongly validated by the midterm elections. Every federal campaign used at least one of our start-ups, as did over 3,000 down-ballot campaigns. Our early, quiet investments into companies like Mobilize America, Change Research, BallotReady, Swayable, Tuesday Company, and Avalanche began to pay off with campaigns, causes, and even other investors.

 

Unlike technologies born and buried on individual campaigns, our start-ups are now learning from this past cycle to strengthen and prepare for the defining election of our lifetime. We will rise to meet the moment with them. Higher Ground Labs will soon close a $10.0 million fund for the next two years and will assume lead-investment roles for our strongest existing companies. Our follow-on investments will range from $500,000 to $2,000,000 and will run in parallel to ongoing programming support we provide. We intend to deploy over $6.0 million in follow-on funding in 2019 and 2020.

 

HGL will also continue to accelerate promising earlier-stage start-ups that solve challenges identified in our 2019 investment thesis. Our latest accelerator class will receive over $1.4 million in funding and will feature 11 startups and 2 fellows that collectively address misinformation and false-media, strengthen data analytics, integrate and measure performance, proliferate creative content, and much more. In addition, we are assuming a lead-investment role for our strongest existing companies.

 

What started as an experiment is here to stay. Higher Ground Labs wants to be an enduring engine in driving new technology to the political market. Because innovation is a process, not a destination.

Japan's new HTV-X cargo spacecraft will arrive at the International Space Station for the first time ever today (Oct. 28), and you can watch the action live.

The robotic HTV-X is scheduled to be captured by the station's Canadarm2 robotic arm — operated by NASA astronaut Zena Cardman and Kimiya Yui of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) — today around 11:50 a.m. EDT (1550 GMT).

The HTV-X is the successor to Japan's H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV), which flew nine missions — all of them successful — to the International Space Station (ISS) between September 2009 and May 2020.

 

Like its predecessor, the HTV-X can carry about 13,200 pounds (6,000 kilograms) of payload to low Earth orbit. It's hauling about 9,000 pounds (4,080 kg) of food and supplies on this mission, which began with a launch atop an H3 rocket on Saturday (Oct. 25).

The new freighter is expendable, just like the HTV (which was also known as Kounotori, Japanese for "White Stork"). But the HTV-X can stay up for considerably longer stretches.

"HTV-X enhances transportation capabilities and adds the capability to provide various users with on-orbit demonstration opportunities for up to 1.5 years after leaving ISS until reentry," Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which builds the HTV-X for JAXA, wrote in a description of the vehicle.

 

HTV-X joins three other vehicles in the stable of robotic ISS cargo craft. The other freighters that currently service the station are Russia's Progress vehicle and Cygnus and Dragon, which are built by the American companies Northrop Grumman and SpaceX, respectively.

All are expendable except Dragon, which splashes down in the ocean for recovery and reuse. Dragon can therefore also haul scientific experiments and other materials down to Earth from the station.

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a military hospital in Moscow on Wednesday, meeting servicemen wounded in the Ukraine conflict.

The president spoke about the frontline situation, namely the encirclement of Kiev’s troops in two critical locations, as well as the testing of new cutting-edge nuclear-powered weaponry, including the unlimited-range Burevestnik cruise missile and the massive Poseidon underwater drone.

 

Here are the key takeaways from Putin’s speech:

 

Moscow ready for pause in fighting

The frontline situation has been developing “favorably” for Russia, with the country’s troops actively advancing, the president said.

Ukrainian forces have been encircled in Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), Putin added, referring to cities in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region and Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic, respectively.

 

The president floated the idea of briefly pausing fighting in the two locations to allow Western and Ukrainian journalists in.

The proposal has already been discussed with military commanders and Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, Putin added.

 

The journalists would be able to “check on the state of the encircled Ukrainian troops so that Ukraine’s political leadership can make appropriate decisions regarding the fate of its citizens and military personnel,” the president said.

The trickiest part about the proposal is ensuring the safety of the journalists and preventing a potential provocation by Kiev, he said.

 

Cruise missile of unlimited range

The Russian president talked about the new unlimited-range nuclear-powered Burevestnik cruise missile. The weapon was successfully tested last week, when the projectile reportedly traveled more than 14,000km.

Putin revealed details about the missile’s nuclear-powered turbojet engine, stating that its power unit “is comparable in output with the reactor of a nuclear-propelled submarine, but it’s 1,000 times smaller.”

 

“The key thing is that while a conventional nuclear reactor starts up in hours, days, or even weeks, this nuclear reactor starts up in minutes or seconds. That’s a giant achievement,” the president said.

The nuclear-powered propulsion system could potentially see civilian application, apart from military use, Putin noted.

For instance, it could be applied in the future to “address energy security in the Arctic, and we’ll use it in the lunar program,” he said.

 

Poseidon underwater drone tested successfully

Russia successfully tested a nuclear-powered underwater Poseidon drone on Tuesday, Putin revealed.

The development of the massive torpedo-shaped nuclear-capable drone was first announced in 2018, but had been shrouded in mystery ever since.

“For the first time, we succeeded not only in launching it from a carrier submarine using a booster engine but also in starting its nuclear power unit, which propelled the drone for a certain amount of time,” Putin stated.

 

The device is unrivaled by any other weapon “anywhere in the world when it comes to speed and depth,” the president stressed, adding that an analogous weapon is unlikely to be fielded by any other nation soon.

The power of Poseidon greatly surpasses the characteristics of Russia’s upcoming Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Putin stated, apparently referring to the yield of its nuclear payload.

 

Sarmat ICBM to be fielded soon

The Sarmat ICBM itself is expected to enter active duty shortly, the president stated.

The United States is scaling back its military presence in Europe as part of a broader strategy shift, Romania’s defense minister announced on Wednesday.

The minister said Bucharest learned of the US decision on Monday, but it was not a “disaster” for the Eastern European nation’s security. The Pentagon is to pull out roughly half of the 2,000 troops it currently has in Romania.

The unit affected by the change has elements stationed in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia as well. Other nations such as France will continue their deployments, Mosteanu added, noting that it was “unrealistic” to expect a large foreign presence.

 

The US and Western European nations bolstered military forces along Russia’s borders as tensions grew following the 2014 armed coup in Kiev, which they backed. Russia viewed the buildup as a threat to its security and urged NATO to reverse it, before the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022.

SBU Drones Destroy $20M Pantsir-S2 Anti-Aircraft System, Strike Oil Depots in Crimea

Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) drones struck Russian military and infrastructure targets in occupied Crimea early Wednesday morning, Oct. 29, a source within the SBU told Kyiv Post.

“The Russians lost a Pantsir-S2 anti-aircraft missile system worth about $20 million. It is one of the key links in the enemy’s air defense,” the source said.

Two radar stations were also hit, each significantly weakening Russia’s defenses in Crimea.

 

SBU drones also targeted fuel infrastructure, hitting an oil depot in Hvardiiske, where a large fire erupted, sending a massive column of black smoke into the sky. Another strike hit the Komsomolskaya oil depot.

“The SBU continues systematic operations to destroy air defense systems and oil depots supplying the enemy. Each special operation reduces Russia’s military and logistical capabilities,” the source added.''

Pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel Crimean Wind reported explosions and fires across Crimea early Wednesday. A strike at Hvardiiske’s ATAN oil depot, previously hit on Oct. 17, reignited, with the blaze reportedly visible from space.

 

Initial reports also claimed a fire at Simferopol thermal power plant, but it was later clarified that an oil depot near Hresivsky village caught fire.

Notably, Crimean Wind’s subscribers reported that military fuel tankers, camouflaged and equipped with anti-drone systems, were actively entering and exiting the Simferopol oil depot on Tuesday.

“This depot is used to supply the Russian occupation forces,” the report reads.

 

Russian-installed “governor” Sergey Aksyonov confirmed a drone hit a fuel container in Simferopol, which caused a blaze.

There were also reports of a possible strike near Krylivka and Mirny villages, targeting military equipment warehouses and nearby Russian air defense positions.

Early Wednesday, Oct. 29, Ukrainian drones struck multiple targets across Russia, including an oil depot in the Ulyanovsk region, and briefly disrupted airports from Moscow to the North Caucasus.

 

Russian Telegram channels reported drones approaching Moscow on the evening of Oct. 28, prompting temporary suspensions at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports.

Monitoring channels claimed 100-130 drones were seen over Russian territory late Tuesday, with additional restrictions at airports in Vladikavkaz, Grozny, and Samara early Wednesday.

 

Explosions were reported near Novospasskoye (Ulyanovsk), followed by fires at an oil depot reportedly belonging to NS-Oil OJSC.

Drones also targeted the Stavrolen petrochemical plant in Stavropol and the Mari Oil Refinery in Mari El, with footage showing bright flashes.

 

According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, over 100 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight, including eight over Crimea.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strikes have hit Moscow’s economy hard: “We believe the Russians have lost more than 20% of their oil refining capacity, about 22-27% of their fuel.

That’s why there are queues – there’s a real problem there.”

 

Several refineries were damaged, forcing Moscow to redistribute production among other plants.

Flight delays throughout the country could increase as more and more controllers call in sick over their first full missed paycheck due to the ongoing government shutdown, officials warned on Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)—already short approximately 3,000 controllers who routinely work six-day, 10-hour shifts—has reported delays as a result of staffing gaps.

 

The FAA limits landings and takeoffs amid shortages, causing disruptions that last from 30 minutes to more than two hours long. Staffing shortages can even result in temporary ground stops.

104 Palestinians killed in latest Israeli strikes on Gaza – health officials

 

Israel and Hamas have charged each other with breaking an October 10 truce, with both sides now again pledging to uphold it

 

Overnight Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have killed 104 Palestinians, including 46 children, the local health authorities have reported. Despite trading accusations of ceasefire violations, both Israel and Hamas have said they are still committed to honoring a US-brokered truce that was agreed on October 10.

 

In a series of posts on X on Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that it had “begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire,” following a “series of strikes, in which dozens of terror targets and terrorists were struck… in response to Hamas’ violations.”

 

Late on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hamas of failing to follow the agreed upon schedule and procedure for the repatriation of the bodies of deceased Israeli hostages.

 

On top of that, an Israeli serviceman was killed on Tuesday. His vehicle reportedly came under fire in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

 

Hamas denied any involvement in the attack, and attributed delays in body repatriations to the immense destruction in Gaza caused by Israeli strikes, which it says is hindering efforts to locate remains.

 

In a statement cited by the media, Hamas charged that the “treacherous escalation… reveals a clear Israeli intention to undermine the ceasefire agreement.” The Islamist group went on to accuse the US of providing “political cover” for its ally.

 

Hamas urged ceasefire mediators and guarantors, which include Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, to “immediately pressure the occupying government to halt its massacres.”

 

Speaking on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said that Israel’s response to the soldier’s death was appropriate. He added that “nothing is going to jeopardize [the agreement],” warning that should Hamas fail to “behave… their lives will be terminated.”

 

The previous flare-up between Israel and Hamas happened on October 19, with Israeli airstrikes killing at least 44 people across Gaza.

 

Israel launched its military campaign in the Palestinian enclave in response to a Hamas surprise attack in which 1,200 people were killed and 250 others taken hostage in October 2023.

 

According to Hamas-controlled Gaza health authorities, Israeli military action has left at least 68,000 Palestinians dead since.

Putin aide to sue Washington Post

 

Kirill Dmitriev has accused the US outlet of misquoting him once again

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s economic aide, Kirill Dmitriev, has said he is suing the Washington Post, accusing the newspaper of misquoting him for the second time in two weeks.

 

Dmitriev previously condemned the outlet for “truth distortion” after it treated a reposted message from another Telegram channel as the Russian official’s own quote in an article published on October 18. The newspaper’s actions were “like blaming users for retweets,” Dmitriev argued. The Post later issued a correction, admitting that an earlier version of its article had an “incorrectly attributed” comment.

 

On Tuesday, Dmitriev wrote on X that the “fake Washington Post already corrected quotes falsely attributed to me by Moscow bureau chief Robyn Dixon just two weeks ago. Yet sloppy or biased Ms. Dixon at it again –misquoting me in yesterday’s piece.”

 

He did not provide a link to the article or specify which of his comments he believed had been distorted, but called on the paper to make another correction, apologize, and “finally learn the lesson.”

 

Dmitriev commented on his own post several hours later, saying the article in question had not been changed.

 

“We will file a court petition tomorrow. We gave them sufficient time to correct – still not corrected,” he wrote.

 

In her piece on Monday, Dixon described Dmitriev’s visit to America last week, which he undertook after the cancelation of the Budapest summit on settling the Ukraine conflict scheduled between Putin and US President Donald Trump.

 

Dixon reported that in Dmitriev’s interviews during the trip he insisted that the latest sanctions on Russia would not harm its economy and would only cause a spike in fuel prices in the US. She also reported that he had rejected accusations of the Russian military attacking civilian targets in Ukraine, and that he had “claimed that a diplomatic solution to the war was reasonably close.”

 

Speaking about his visit on Sunday, Dmitriev said his delegation had “clearly” communicated to the US side “that only constructive, respectful dialogue will bear fruit. Any attempts to pressure Russia are simply pointless.” The aide also reiterated Moscow’s stance that the Ukraine conflict can be resolved only through “eradicating its root causes.”

Ron Paul: Under Marco Rubio's State Department The Neocons Are Back!

 

Interventionist foreign policy is surging ahead with figures like Marco Rubio leading the charge for more regime change and destabilization.

 

According to several recent news reports, the two major Trump foreign policy shifts last week are the handiwork of Marco Rubio, the President’s Secretary of State and (acting) National Security Advisor. As with all neocon plans, they will be big on promises and small on delivery.

 

First up, according to Bloomberg it was Rubio who finally convinced President Trump to take “ownership” of the US proxy war on Russia, and for the first time place sanctions on Russia. Up to this point President Trump chose to portray himself as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia. But with this move against Russia’s oil sector he can no longer credibly claim that this is “Joe Biden’s war.”

 

The Trump move followed a confusing few weeks since the Trump/Putin Alaska summit in August. After that meeting Trump dropped the neocon position that a ceasefire in the Russia/Ukraine war must occur before any peace negotiations. It was a sign that Trump was looking more realistically at the war. He also said he did not think Ukraine would win, which is pretty obvious.

 

A surprise call to Putin the day before Ukrainian president Zelensky was to arrive in town just over a week ago reinforced that position and Zelensky left Washington empty-handed. He was seeking Tomahawk missiles that could strike deep into Russian territory.

 

Then out of the blue President Trump last week announced through his Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that the US would be sanctioning Russia’s two largest oil companies until Russia declares a ceasefire in the war before negotiations. That won’t happen, but what it does mean is that Rubio and the neocons have successfully gotten Trump to step on the escalation escalator. That is what they always do. It will be much harder to back down now.

 

At the same time the US Administration was jumping deeper into the Russia/Ukraine war, a long-time neocon dream was suddenly back in play. Although in Trump’s first term a “regime change” operation was attempted against Venezuela, it failed spectacularly. But the neocons have long dreamed of overthrowing the Venezuelan government – they almost got their way back in 2002 – and suddenly after several weeks of extrajudicial murder on the high seas in the name of fighting the drug war, President Trump announced that land strikes on Venezuela would begin soon.

 

He did mention that he might brief Congress on his plans for war on Venezuela, not that Congress can be bothered to care much one way or the other.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls Out Israel for Slaughtering Dozens of Children in Gaza

IDF legal chief on leave as army investigates leak of detainee abuse video

The Israel Defense Forces said it has launched a criminal probe into last year's leak of a video showing the alleged abuse of a Gazan detainee at a military facility, which led to the arrest of five soldiers.

The IDF added that Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi has been placed on leave "pending further clarification of details in the matter."

 

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara issued a statement saying that the decision to open a criminal investigation into offenses related to the publication of the video was made "following information recently received" and with the approval of the state prosecutor and the head of the police investigations and intelligence division.

"In the past 24 hours, various investigative actions have been carried out, and an update on the opening of the investigation has been submitted to the High Court of Justice.

At this stage, as the investigation is ongoing, no further details can be provided," the statement said.

 

The video was revealed in August 2024 by Channel 12 News. Following its publication, five reservists were charged with aggravated abuse and causing serious bodily harm to a detainee.

According to the indictment, the five beat the detainee, dragged him across the floor, stepped on his body, and used a taser against him. One of the soldiers also stabbed the detainee in the buttocks, causing rectal injury.

The detainee suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung.

 

Defense Minister Israel Katz said he supports the decision to place the military's legal chief on leave, adding that the affair surrounding the video was "one of the gravest blood libels against IDF soldiers."

"The Military Advocate General will not return to her post while the case is under investigation, and once it concludes, we will act according to the findings," Katz said.

Heathrow, NatWest and Minecraft are among some of the sites and services experiencing problems amid a global Microsoft outage.

Outage tracker Downdetector showed thousands of reports of issues with a number of websites globally on Wednesday.

Microsoft said some users of Microsoft 365 might see delays with Outlook and some other services.

The company's Azure cloud computing platform, which underpins large parts of the internet, reported a "degradation of some services" at 1600 GMT.

It said this was due to "DNS issues" - the same root cause of the huge Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage last week.

Amazon says AWS is currently operating normally.

Other impacted sites in the UK include supermarket Asda and mobile phone operator O2 - while in the US, people have reported issues accessing the websites of coffee chain Starbucks and retailer Kroger.

On Saturday, drones could be seen "above crucial parts of the headquarters of our army brigade", Francken writes. "It was not the work of amateurs, but of accomplished drone pilots."

He revealed to HLN that it was then four or five drones. An hour and a half after his tweet, another message appeared. "Last night several drones were spotted again above MEF."

 

Last night's incident is now the third report in a short time of drones near a military base in Belgium. They were first spotted over the military camp of Elsenborn in the East Cantons.

Marche-en-Famenne is of a different caliber. "Our most important army barracks are located there," says Francken. "There is critical infrastructure. Four to five drones flew above that."

Defense specialists: "Pattern is becoming visible"

Major Christophe Vincart, the person in charge of the military base in Marche-en-Famenne, is not surprised by the incident.

"We knew this would happen," he agrees on Wednesday. "There were between two and six drones, there are several possible interpretations," the chief of police revealed.

 

"Depending on the altitude and clouds, it is very difficult to determine the type of drone," said the major, who can only say that it is about "small drones".

He thinks that the drones have viewed various locations from the air. "The air is the simplest way to collect information about locations. Now we have to react as best we can to prevent these kinds of raids."

 

"This is an important incident," says former colonel Roger Housen. He recalls the drone flights that have also been over military bases in Germany and the United Kingdom in recent months.

I'm not proposing the Mossad or Israel's intelligence forces cease collecting or sharing intelligence with our global partners to protect other people's lives [meaning non-Israelis], but I am proposing we trade it differently."

 

Earlier this week, the Mossad exposed an Iranian operative who planned attacks in Australia, Germany and Greece. Cohen officially stated at the conference he won't run in the upcoming elections. However, he didn't rule out entering political life later. When asked about running for office in elections a year away, Cohen responded, "The answer is no. Not now. We'll see what develops."

 

Cohen revealed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously told him he considered him his successor. "When I served as Mossad chief, Prime Minister Netanyahu suggested I was his successor. One day I approached him and asked if he genuinely said this, and he confirmed it, explaining his reasoning. This occurred in 2018 or 2019 I believe, and then my wife responded, 'No, absolutely not. Drone shot down near Estonian base with connection to American troops By JOHN VANDIVER STARS AND STRIPES

STUTTGART, Germany — A suspicious drone flying near a base used by U.S. forces in Estonia was recently shot down, authorities in the Baltic country bordering Russia said this week.

The incident occurred near Camp Reedo in southern Estonia, where one of the aircraft that allies spotted was shot down with an anti-drone gun, Estonian defense spokeswoman Liis Vaksmann told the regional news outlet Postimees on Tuesday.

 

It was unclear Wednesday whether U.S. soldiers had any part in tracking or shooting down the aircraft. U.S. Army Europe and Africa referred questions about the situation to Estonian officials, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The U.S. Army’s 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment is currently on a rotational mission in Estonia. The incident happened Oct. 17 at about 4:30 p.m. and came to light Tuesday after the local news report.

Estonian troops, police and border guard authorities didn’t find the drone in the area where it was presumably shot down, Postimees reported.

The U.S. military has kept a steady presence in recent years in Estonia, where its mission centers on deterring potential Russian aggression while helping local forces build up their own capabilities.

 

The drone downing near Camp Reedo comes in the wake of a Russian fighter jet incursion into Estonian airspace, prompting emergency talks inside NATO about that incident.

Allies on NATO’s eastern flank have been on edge in connection with various Russian incursions, such as a swarm of drones that entered into Polish airspace in September.

That prompted NATO aircraft to shoot down numerous drones, marking the first time in alliance history that it was forced to take such defensive action in the bloc’s airspace.

 

Meanwhile, other Baltic countries have seen incursions in recent days.

On Monday, Lithuania said it was shutting its border with Russian ally Belarus after a series of airspace violations by suspicious weather balloons used for smuggling contraband.

The situation caused closures of Vilnius’ airport. Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene said Monday that the country was prepared to shoot down intruding aircraft in the future.

New pro-Israel org. aims to expose antizionism as a rising hate threat

 

Adam Louis-Klein’s Movement Against Antizionism (MAAZ) calls for a paradigm shift, identifying antizionism as a hate movement that endangers Jewish communities through dangerous narratives and libels.

 

While antizionism is different to classic antisemitism, both are forms of Jew hatred, anthropologist Adam Louis-Klein told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday. Whereas classical antisemitism opposed Jews assimilating into nation states, antizionism opposes Jews in their own nation state.

 

"We would like to see antizionist hate categorized for what it is," he added.

 

The conversation was prompted by the launch of Louis-Klein's new organization - Movement Against Antizionism (MAAZ) - which is seeking to create a paradigm shift in the discourse around antizionism.

 

MAAZ launched on Sunday with the tagline “antizionism is a hate movement.” Among some of MAAZ's listed partners are JPPI fellow Samuel J. Hyde, scholar Dr. Naya Lekht and historian Dr. Sheree Trotter. The first MAAZ Conference will take place in Pittsburgh in Summer 2026.

New U.S. Solar Hydrogen Generator Powers Long-Endurance Drones

A new trailer unit developed by Sesame Solar produces hydrogen fuel where it is needed, shrinking the supply chain to nothing and enabling refueling of long-endurance drones at the front line.

The Surveillance and Drone Refueling Nanogrid Solution includes a solar-powered hydrogen generator, two Heven AeroTech Z1 drones, satellite communications, edge computing and radar.

This mobile self-supporting drone system can provide 24/7 aerial coverage for extended periods.

“Continuous drone surveillance is important, and hydrogen is the best way to do it,” says Lauren Flanagan, CEO and Co-Founder of Sesame Solar.

 

The Hydrogen Advantage

A hydrogen fuel cell effectively burns hydrogen to create water and electricity. The technology was invented back in 1839 by Sir William Grove and packs in more energy per ounce than any battery.

But while batteries can be recharged, a fuel cell needs to be refueled with hydrogen. So while hydrogen fuel cells look ideal for small drones, resupply has left the idea on the ground.

 

“These drones, with an endurance of four or five times as much as battery-powered drones, have been around a while but the hydrogen fuel chain has been the primary roadblock,” says Flanagan.

For example Lockheed Martin’s original battery-powered 2006 Stalker drone had flight time of 2 hours. In 2013 the company launched the Stalker XE version with a fuel cell which flies for 8 hours or more.

The drone has reportedly patrolled the U.S. Southern border, an environment where laboratory-grade hydrogen can easily be purchased and shipped.

 

But it has had less traction in expeditionary settings, where soldiers put up with the shorter flight time of batteries in exchange for not having to cope with the logistics challenge of pressurized hydrogen.

Sesame Solar’s Nanogrid solves the supply problem by producing hydrogen on the spot, literally out of thin air, and storing it in convenient form to easily recharge fuel cells.

 

1920s Technology Meets Modern Storage

The first stage of the process requires water, which the Nanogrid produces with an atmospheric water generator, sucking moisture out of the air.

The water is then split using electricity from solar cells, yielding oxygen and hydrogen. This is not a new way of making fuel; JBS Haldane proposed a similar scheme in 1923. The clever part is how the hydrogen is stored.

Hydrogen is notoriously dangerous, as seen when the airship Hindenburg turned into a giant fireball as the hydrogen-filled envelope ignited.

Liquid hydrogen occupies less space than gas but is also hazardous. Solid metal hydrides offer a safer option.

 

The Nanogrid hydrogen storage units are essentially metal sponges.

When exposed to hydrogen under pressure, the metal surface absorbs hydrogen, creating metal hydride.

This can be kept for as long as needed, at relatively low pressure. “It’s safely stored at less pressure than a spray paint can,” says Flanagan

The solid hydride yields hydrogen gas to recharge fuel cells simply by changing the pressure. But while in solid state it does not present the risks and challenges associated with hydrogen gas or liquid.

“The stored metal hydride is non-combustible,” says Flanagan. “It’s not going to explode like the Hindenburg.”

Sesame Solar recently acquired the solid-state storage technology, having previously been a customer and have integrated it efficiently into their hydrogen systems.

The solar-powered Nanogrid effectively provides an endless source of hydrogen. It is more than enough to keep two drones refueled, so it can maintain a permanent aerial presence with at least one drone always in the air.

Flanagan says their official claim is that the system can operate in the field for at least six months, but the reality may be significantly longer.

Future systems will run for years. Nanogrids are suitable for extremely cold climates where systems struggle.

 

Drone Base Station

The Nanogrid is built into a trailer and can be deployed rapidly in the field, taking less than fifteen minutes go from the road to fully operational.

Sesame see it is much more than a refueling station by equipping it with communications, computing and other facilities in the same unit.

 

The Surveillance and Drone Refueling Nanogrid Solution comes with two Heven Z1 drones. These take off vertically, and have a flight endurance of at least ten hours.

The Nanogrid generates enough hydrogen to keep at least one drone in the air at all times. The Z1 carries a 10-pound payload, enough for a variety of sensors, and has a takeoff weight of 55 pounds.

 

The concept resembles previous Drone Hive solutions for deploying numerous drones from a trailer, the big difference between that the Sesame system also provides refueling for months on end.

At present the Nanogrid still requires human involvement for the refueling process, but as others have shown, this could be automated in future iterations.

 

Flanagan says they are already talking to potential customers and partners interested in the system’s potential to fuel not just aerial drones but also ground robots.

These are limited by the short lifetimes provided by batteries, and fuel cells would greatly increase their scope of operations.

It also does not take a great leap of imagination to see the potential for hydrogen-powered FPVs with ranges several times greater than the 12 miles or so of battery-driven models.

 

The Future of Expeditionary Energy

Expeditionary power supply is a growing issue with increasing numbers of uncrewed vehicles and other units deployed to remote areas.

The traditional solution of generators supplied by a fuel logistics chain, sometimes involving flying barrels of diesel to forward bases in helicopters for $400 a gallon.

Proposed solutions include such off-the-wall projects as miniature nuclear reactors for U.S. military bases.

 

We have already seen improvised solar power solutions for drones in Ukraine, but the Nanogrid is on another level.

The Nanogrid offers a supply of fuel with high energy density as close to the front line as needed, in a form well suited to small drones.

 

Flanagan says the Nanogrid is available now, and production can be scaled up rapidly as needed to meet demand.

Switching to hydrogen will not make sense for all drones, but the technology opens up a lot of new possibilities when the fuel can be so easily available.

“By removing reliance on fuel supply chains, we’re making military operations more efficient,” says Flanagan.

Biden Judge Releases Man Who Ordered $45K Hit On Pam Bondi

 

A federal magistrate judge appointed during the Biden administration earlier this week released the anarchist accused of posting a bounty targeting Attorney General Pam Bondi.

 

The judge, Douglas Micko, allowed Tyler Maxon Avalos to be released from a Minnesota federal prison as long as he does not travel outside the state and undergoes GPS monitoring.

 

Avalos was arrested on Oct. 16 after allegedly posting a $45,000 bounty on Bondi, alongside an image of her with a target symbol over her head.

 

Authorities were alerted to the threat on Oct. 9, describing it as a murder-for-hire scheme.

 

The post included the caption, “cough cough when they don’t serve us then what?”

 

According to prosecutors, Avalos’s TikTok profile used an anarchist symbol in place of the letter “A” in “Wacko.” The page also featured a link to “An Anarchist FAQ Book,” according to Law and Order.

 

An FBI affidavit detailed Avalos’s lengthy criminal record, including a 2022 felony stalking conviction and a 2016 felony third-degree domestic battery.

 

He was also charged in April 2016 with misdemeanor domestic assault, which was later upgraded to felony domestic assault by strangulation.

 

Under Micko’s order, Avalos must avoid alcohol, surrender any weapons, stay away from the internet and comply with a daily curfew while awaiting further court proceedings.

 

Micko was appointed to the bench by the district judges of the District of Minnesota in April 2023, replacing Judge Kate Menendez, who was elevated to a higher district court position by President Joe Biden.

The New York Times has shone a spotlight on the Democrats’ long-ignored “kiddie stroll” sex market on Los Angeles’ Figueroa Street, yet the newspaper downplayed the pimp shield law pushed by a libertarian Democratic legislator, Rep Scott Wiener, and signed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

 

“For the 77th Street Division, which covers the northern half of the Figueroa Corridor, prostitution had always been a problem. But in recent years, the officers had seen the magnitude of child sex trafficking explode,” says the article, written by reporter Emily Baumgaertner Nunn.

 

Gangs that had long sold drugs began to take advantage of Figueroa’s lucrative opportunity. With a dozen girls, one trafficker could easily make $12,000 a night. “Drugs are sold once and gone forever, but girls can be resold indefinitely,” said [police sergeant Alvaro] Navarro, who had been in the division for two decades. Motel owners who noticed the parades of customers but feared the gangs’ retribution kept quiet.

 

But the Democratic-run state has cut funding for cops and handcuffed their efforts to pull young girls — some aged 12 — from the sex-trafficking street, the newspaper noted:

 

As trafficking grew, the means to deal with it shrank. In 2021, the Police Department’s central human-trafficking unit was disbanded following budget cuts, leaving each division fewer resources to tackle the problem. According to Navarro, the 77th Street Division was supposed to have six investigators at Armendariz’s rank in its vice unit. Instead, she was the only one.

 

Their jobs grew even more challenging when California repealed the law allowing the police to arrest women who loitered with the intent to engage in prostitution. The repeal, known as SB 357, was intended to prevent profiling of Black, brown, and trans women based on how they dressed. But when it was implemented in January 2023, the effect was that uniformed officers could no longer apprehend groups of girls in lingerie on Figueroa, hoping to recover minors among them. Now officers needed to be willing to swear they had reason to suspect each girl was underage — but with fake eyelashes and wigs, it was nearly impossible to tell. One girl told vice officers that her trafficker had explained things succinctly: “We run Figueroa now,” he said.

 

“By the end of 2023, the city attorney had taken to calling Figueroa the Kiddie Stroll because so many of the girls weren’t even 13,” the newspaper wrote.

was hit with outages in its Azure cloud and 365 services on Wednesday, hours before the company’s scheduled earnings release.

 

Users on social media reported problems accessing their sites and services running on Microsoft’s products, and the company’s websites, including its Xbox and investor relations pages, were down. The problems began around 11:40 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector, which relies on user reports.

 

“We are working to address an issue affecting Azure Front Door that is impacting the availability of some services,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “Customers should continue to check their Service Health Alerts and the latest update on this issue can be found on the Azure status page.”

 

The Azure support account on X said, “We’re investigating an issue impacting several Azure services,” and that “customers may experience issues when accessing services.”

 

The latest update on Azure’s status page says that issues began with AFD at about noon ET, and that customers and Microsoft services using AFD “may have experienced latencies, timeouts and errors.” The company said it suspects an “inadvertent configuration change” was the trigger, and that it’s “rolling back to our last known good state” for AFD services.

 

“As this deployment progresses, customers should begin to see initial signs of recovery,” the company wrote. “Once completed, we will begin recovering nodes and routing traffic through these healthy nodes.”

 

Microsoft’s 365 status account wrote that its services are “experiencing downstream impact related to the ongoing Azure outage.”

 

The service disruptions come a little over a week after larger rival Amazon

Web Services reported a major outage that took down numerous websites. Throughout the day on Oct. 20, AWS said it observed “increased error rates” for customers when trying to launch new instances in EC2, its popular cloud service that provides virtual server capacity.

 

AWS leads in cloud infrastructure with 32% of the market as of the first quarter, according to Canalys. Azure is second at 23%, followed by Google’s cloud unit at 10%. Azure and Google

Cloud have been growing faster of late, driven by a boom in artificial intelligence workloads.

 

All three companies are set to report quarterly results this week, starting with Microsoft and Google parent Alphabet on Wednesday after the bell. Amazon reports on Thursday.

 

Alaska Airlines

said on Wednesday afternoon that it’s currently “experiencing a disruption to key systems,” including websites, due to the outage on Azure, “where several Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines services are hosted.” Alaska closed its $1.9 billion acquisition of Hawaiian last year.

 

In March, Microsoft suffered an outage over a weekend that left tens of thousands of users unable to access their Outlook email accounts and other programs.

UPS axes 48,000 workers in sweeping cost-cut push, sparking stock surge

 

United Parcel Service has slashed 48,000 jobs this year — one of the largest single-year reductions by a US company since the pandemic — as the package giant scrambled to contain costs and revive its lagging stock price.

 

The Atlanta-based delivery behemoth disclosed the reductions Tuesday while reporting third-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street expectations.

 

UPS said 34,000 of the cuts hit drivers and warehouse operations, while 14,000 targeted management.

 

The company employed about half a million people at the start of the year, the New York Times noted.

 

Chief Executive Carol Tomé said the job losses, a mix of layoffs and buyouts, were part of a restructuring aimed at positioning UPS to be at “the most efficient peak in our history.”

 

“We are executing the most significant strategic shift in our company’s history, and the changes we are implementing are designed to deliver long-term value for all stakeholders,” she said in a statement.

 

UPS shares jumped nearly 9% in Tuesday afternoon trading, even as the company reported weaker revenue and profits.

 

The shipping giant earned $1.3 billion in the third quarter, down from $1.5 billion a year earlier, on revenue of $21.4 billion — a 3.7% decline from last year.

States Sue Trump Admin To Try To Stop Suspension Of Food Stamps

 

Massachusetts and nearly two dozen other states on Oct. 28 sued the Trump administration to try to force the government to keep funding the food stamp program even if Congress approves no new funding.

 

The lawsuit cited federal law, which states that SNAP benefits “must be furnished to all eligible households.”

 

Some $5 billion in contingency funds can be used in lieu of new funding from Congress amid the government shutdown, the officials said. The government can also pull from a separate fund that has more than $23 billion in it, they said.

 

The USDA recently told states not to issue SNAP benefits because of the lack of new funding from Congress. The agency, which administers SNAP with the help of states, said in a memorandum that it could not legally use contingency funds to cover the shortfall in November, which has been estimated at $9 billion.

 

The officials with states and the District of Columbia on Tuesday asked the federal court in Massachusetts to declare the department’s directive illegal and order the department to furnish benefits already calculated by state agencies for November.

 

“More than one million people in Massachusetts rely on SNAP to put food on the table,” Campbell said in a statement. “Despite having the money to fund SNAP, the Trump Administration is creating needless fear, angst and harm for millions of families and their children especially as we approach the holidays. It is past time for the Trump Administration to act to help, rather than harm, those who rely on our government.”

Over 130 Killed In Deadliest Police Raid In History Of Brazil (Videos)

 

Over 130 people, including several police officers, died in a massive raid by Brazilian security forces aimed at organized crime in Rio de Janeiro on October 28.

 

Rio de Janeiro State Governor Cláudio Castro told reporters at a press conference that police confiscated a “large quantity of drugs” in the raid, according to Reuters. Authorities also claimed on social media that 81 people were arrested and at least 42 rifles were seized during the operation.

 

Castro went on to pronounce the raid “the biggest operation in the history of Rio de Janeiro” in a post to the X social network.

 

Separately, Rio de Janeiro’s government said that the police launched the operation to “combat the territorial expansion” of the Comando Vermelho criminal group.

 

The operation was in the works for over a year, the government said in a lengthy statement posted to X, and involved more than 2,500 military and civilian police personnel.

Sudanese Government Says 2,000 Were Killed By Rapid Support Forces In El-Fasher (18+ Videos)

 

Thousands of Sudanese civilians have been reportedly killed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in el-Fashe after the withdrawal of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) from the city in western Sudan.

 

The battle in el-Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur, began with the start of the power struggle in Sudan between the paramilitary force and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) more than two years and a half ago. However, the RSF’s final attack on the key city started only in April of last year. Within a month, the city was besieged by the group.

 

The RSF finally announced the capture of el-Fasher on October 26. The very next day, SAF chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan said that his forces withdrew “for military reasons” but vowed to retake the city.

 

Horrific videos purported to show RSF militants rounding up and executing civilians near el-Fasher began to surface online right after the fall of the city.

 

During a press conference in the city of Port Sudan on October 29, Mona Nour Al-Daem, Sudan’s Deputy Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid, said that at least 2,000 civilians were killed by the RSF in el-Fasher, describing what happened as “genocide against unarmed civilians.”

 

She said that the RSF has “executed patients and the wounded in hospitals” and hunted fleeing civilians, with many victims subjected to sexual violence.
