China has backed the right of the Palestinian people to use armed force to combat Israel's occupation of their land, calling it an "an inalienable right well founded in international law".

The comments on Thursday were made by the Chinese ambassador to the UN, Zhang Jun, during the fourth day of public hearings held by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands.

Representatives of 52 countries are addressing the ICJ on Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land.

Beijing’s envoy said there were "various people (who) freed themselves from colonial rule" and they could use "all available means, including armed struggle".

He described the Palestinian use of armed resistance as legitimate and not an act of terrorism.

"The struggle waged by peoples for their liberation, right to self-determination, including armed struggle against colonialism, occupation, aggression, domination against foreign forces should not be considered terror acts," Zhang Jun told the court.

In his speech, Jun criticized Israeli policies, characterizing them as “oppression that has severely undermined and impeded the exercises and full realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination".

The ICJ’s public hearings, which will be held until February 26, come after a UN General Assembly resolution requesting an ICJ advisory opinion.

The number of states participating in the oral proceedings is the highest of any case since the ICJ's establishment in 1945 and is separate to the more publicized genocide case brought by South Africa. A panel of 15 judges are expected to take about six months to deliberate before issuing an advisory opinion.

Besides China, other countries scheduled to participate in the hearings include Hungary, France, South Africa and Egypt.

International bodies, including the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union will also take part. Israel will not participate but has sent written observations to the court.

US First Lady Melania Trump “likes” Russian President Vladimir Putin, but is disappointed over the continuation of the Ukraine conflict, President Donald Trump has said. Moscow is willing to negotiate but has maintained that any talks must address the root causes of the conflict.

Since assuming office this year, Trump has said he respects both Russia and Putin and wants to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict. In recent weeks, however, he has increasingly expressed frustration over a lack of progress in the peace process and has threatened Moscow with more sanctions.

In Tuesday’s episode of Pod Force One, the US president said: “We know Putin and she [Melania] likes him,” adding that he “got along with him very well.”

However, Trump noted that shortly after his recent conversation with the Russian president, Melania had commented it was “too bad they just bombed Kiev.”

On Tuesday, Trump cut his 50-day deadline for Moscow and Kiev to reach a peace deal to just 10 days, warning of sweeping sanctions targeting Russia's trading partners if no agreement is reached. Russian officials have rejected the US president's ultimatums.

Earlier this month, The Times published a report suggesting that Melania Trump’s role in shaping her husband’s decisions could be underestimated. Melania, 55, was born in Soviet-era Slovenia – now a staunch supporter of Kiev, the outlet pointed out, adding that her deep interest in the conflict reflects that background.

US lawmaker Don Bacon echoed that view in an interview this month, saying the first lady could deserve credit for Trump’s apparent turn against Russia.

“His position on Ukraine has clearly evolved,” Bacon said, noting that he wouldn’t be surprised if Melania played a “quiet but important part in that.”

Madonna begs Pope Leo to visit Gaza 'before it’s too late'

Madonna has called on Pope Leo XIV to visit Gaza in order to "bring your light to the children before it's too late".

The US pop star, considered one of the most successful female solo acts of all time and who was born and raised as a Catholic, shared her plea on Instagram.

"Most Holy Father, please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it's too late. As a mother, I cannot bear to watch their suffering. The children of the world belong to everyone."

She added: "You are the only one of us who cannot be denied entry. We need the humanitarian gates to be fully opened to save these innocent children.

"There is no more time. Please say you will go. Love, Madonna."

Her comments come after an Italian Catholic priest who has been harshly critical of Israel’s war in Gaza was denied entry to Israel and placed on a flight from Tel Aviv to Greece, reports The Times of Israel.

Father Nandino Capovilla, 63, a priest in Marghera, near Venice, landed at Ben Gurion Airport on 11 August to take part in a “Pilgrimage of Justice” organised by the Catholic peace movement Pax Christi.

Capovilla was reportedly stopped at border control and eventually given a form to sign, which stated that he could not enter Israel for reasons related to security or public order.

Israel has faced mounting pressure over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, with experts last month warning that "the worst-case scenario of famine" was playing out in the conflict zone, the BBC reports.

It notes that Madonna's plea comes as the UK, EU, Australia, Canada and Japan issued a statement saying "famine is unfolding in front of our eyes", while the nations urged action to "reverse starvation".

Last week, the BBC notes, the UN's humanitarian agency said the amount of aid entering Gaza continued to be "far below the minimum required". The agency said it continued to experience impediments and delays as it tries to collect aid from Israeli-controlled border zones.

Israel has continued to deny that starvation is occurring in Gaza and has accused UN agencies of not collecting aid at the border crossing points and delivering it.

In July, Pope Leo said that he is following the humanitarian crisis in Gaza with “great concern” while also renewing his “heartfelt appeal for a ceasefire”.

The Pope described how the civilian population in Gaza is being “crushed by hunger and continues to be exposed to violence and death”.

In a subsequent comment to her original Instagram post calling on the Pope, Madonna said: "Politics Cannot affect Change. Only consciousness can. Therefore I am Reaching out to a Man of God."

She went on to say: "I am not pointing fingers, placing blame or taking sides. Everyone is suffering. Including the mothers of the hostages. I pray that they are released as well."

Russian President Vladimir Putin is the most popular leader in the world, American journalist Tucker Carlson has claimed, in an interview with RTVI US.

Outside of Western Europe, Canada, and the “Anglo-sphere,” it is almost impossible to meet someone who doesn’t like Putin, Carlson told the network.

”He is the most popular leader in the world, by far,” Carlson said, noting that the primary reason for Putin’s global popularity is the fact that he has “put his own country’s interests above his own in a lot of ways.

In ways that Western leaders don’t.”

Asked if his perspective on Putin’s worldview had changed after an interview with him in February 2024, Carlson said that he was surprised to realize that the Russian president “actually likes the West.”

And that he probably likes it “way more than anyone who would potentially replace Putin.”

He further proposed that this was one of the reasons the West “hates it so much” and wants to destroy it.

Carlson told Germany’s Bild, in July, that while Putin had been doing a “great job for Russia,” Western leaders were failing their people.

“Your country is going down, Russia is going up. You should be mad at your own leaders. You are mad at Putin instead,” he told the outlet.

Carlson went on to suggest that German officials were attacking Putin and Russia to distract the public from domestic economic and migration issues.

King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, are preparing for a state visit to the Vatican next week that will bring the British Crown and Holy See closer than they have been since the 16th century.

Charles and Camilla will meet with Pope Leo XIV on Thursday as part of a state visit to Vatican City. The two world leaders will dialogue on two levels — as heads of sovereign states and supreme authorities within their respective religious institutions.

They will pray together in the Sistine Chapel alongside Catholic and Anglican clergy — the first such ecumenical service of its kind in over 500 years and a breakthrough that a Buckingham Palace spokesperson described as “historic.”

“It will mark a significant moment in relations between the Catholic Church and Church of England, of which His Majesty is Supreme Governor, recognising the ecumenical work they have undertaken and reflecting the Jubilee year’s theme of walking together as ‘Pilgrims of Hope,'” the spokesperson said of the trip.

“It marks a historic moment in the journey of reconciliation between our Churches,” said Archbishop Flavio Pace, the secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity at the Vatican. “It celebrates how far we’ve come-and offers hope for the future.”

Pope Leo XIV will also be dusting off a long-dormant place of honor for the British royal within the diocese of Rome, though modified and qualified to reflect his status as supreme governor of the schismatic Church of England.

Following his visit to the Sistine Chapel and meeting with Pope Leo XIV, Charles will be escorted to the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls — one of four major papal basilicas in Rome. It is the burial place of St. Paul, one of the founders of the Catholic Church alongside St. Peter.

The basilica is named for its extraterritorial status. It belongs to the Holy See but sits outside the ancient Aurelian Walls of Rome.

Papal basilicas have traditionally been associated with a royal patron. King Felipe VI of Spain is the protocanon of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, as were his predecessors. French President Emmanuel Macron is the honorary canon of the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran, a role the presidency inherited from the French monarchy.

UK Government: First Amendment Doesn’t Protect Americans from British Censorship Laws

The UK government’s communications regulator Ofcom is facing backlash and a federal lawsuit after asserting that the U.S. Constitution does not protect American citizens from its online censorship laws.

Under the United Kingdom’s sweeping Online Safety Act, Ofcom has been sending enforcement letters to small U.S. platforms, including 4chan and Kiwi Farms.

Ofcom is demanding compliance with British speech regulations and threatening heavy fines for noncompliance.

But the move has triggered what one U.S. attorney calls a “constitutional ambush.”

Preston Byrne, an attorney representing 4chan, Kiwi Farms, and two other American companies, said the regulator’s actions were “frankly asinine.”

“My clients are entirely American,” Byrne said.

“All of their operations are American.

“All of their infrastructure is American, and they have no connection to the UK whatsoever.”

Despite that, Ofcom reportedly threatened the companies with “a £20,000 fine plus £100 daily penalties for 60 days thereafter.”

Byrne responded by filing a federal lawsuit in Washington, D.C., challenging Ofcom’s jurisdiction and accusing it of attempting to export censorship into the United States.

“We Don’t Care What the UK Thinks”

Byrne said the lawsuit was designed to make three points:

To demonstrate that U.S. companies are prepared to fight back against foreign censorship regimes.

To assert his clients’ rights in front of a U.S. federal judge.

To provoke Ofcom into “doing something stupid,” which he said it promptly did.

After the filing, Byrne said Ofcom sent “a 40-page letter of tremendous length, which is deeply unserious.”

According to Byrne, Ofcom’s response included an explicit admission that it does not “think U.S. law applies on U.S. soil” and intends to rely on sovereign immunity.

It’s a position Byrne called self-defeating.

“This rather undermines the British government’s assertions that it’s made time and again, including to the President, to his face, that the British government is not using its sovereign power to censor American citizens,” Byrne said.

In an official notice sent to 4chan, Ofcom made its position clear:

“We also note 4chan’s claim that it is protected from enforcement action taken by Ofcom because of the First Amendment to the US Constitution.

“However, the First Amendment binds only the US government and not overseas bodies, such as Ofcom, and therefore, it does not affect Ofcom’s powers to enforce the Act in this case.”

A Legal Contradiction in Writing

That statement, intended to justify Ofcom’s enforcement, may have undercut its entire legal case.

By asserting that the First Amendment “binds only the U.S. government,” Ofcom admits it stands entirely outside the U.S. constitutional order, yet it simultaneously claims the right to enforce British speech law against U.S.-based companies operating solely on American soil.

If Ofcom claims the U.S. Constitution doesn’t apply to its actions, legal experts say, then neither does the UK’s Online Safety Act, which has no authority beyond Britain’s borders.

Ofcom Defends Skipping Legal Channels

Ofcom, for its part, insists it does not need to use the U.S.–UK Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT).

MLAT is the formal process governments use to request evidence or cooperation across borders.

“There is no requirement in the Act for Ofcom to use the MLAT procedure to serve notices issued under the Act,” the regulator said in its notice.

“The MLAT procedure is not an appropriate method of service for administrative investigations, but reserved for obtaining assistance in the investigation or prosecution of criminal offenses.”

That reasoning has been widely criticized as an attempt to circumvent international law by treating enforcement demands as “administrative” rather than legal.

The plaintiffs argue that Ofcom’s approach amounts to “coercive extraterritorial power,” warning that if the regulator wants information from U.S. companies, it must go through the Department of Justice and the courts, not by “emailing a webmaster and demanding records under threat of criminal penalty.”

The Broader Pattern of Global Censorship

Ofcom’s move follows a growing trend of foreign governments bypassing U.S. legal channels to demand content takedowns and user data from American tech firms.

Brazil’s Supreme Court, led by Justice Alexandre de Moraes, has done the same.

The radical judge’s efforts have prompted the U.S. government to impose sanctions on Brazilian officials over censorship and human rights concerns.

X has publicly warned that such actions “set a dangerous precedent for extraterritorial censorship disguised as regulatory enforcement.”

Ofcom’s Overreach Exposed

Ofcom justifies its letters by claiming that any site with “links to the UK,” such as having British users, falls under its jurisdiction.

In one notice, Ofcom cited 4chan’s seven percent UK user base as evidence that it “targets” Britain.

Legal experts call that argument absurd.

Under such logic, any global website with British visitors could be forced to obey UK speech laws, including American news sites and forums.

In the end, Ofcom’s attempt to act as the world’s speech police may have backfired.

Its strategy, ignoring the U.S. Constitution, dismissing MLAT procedures, and issuing fines it cannot collect, has now become a test case in how far a foreign government can go before hitting the hard limits of American sovereignty.

As Byrne put it: “Our objective is really to demonstrate the toothlessness of these global regimes in the United States.”

Okay. So what? Now, here's where it gets interesting. We're going to be revisiting something incredibly old. On 5/18/17, there was a blog post, alleging the hack of a high level FBI computer through phishing. They posted a conversation from a 3rd party messaging app. The names of people in the conversation were Star-wars Alises. The so called "Dooku messages" from 5/17/2017. While these were never proven to be real, they were purportedly FBI/Intelligence related persons, and discussing Michael Flynn (MF), Rod Rosenstein (RR), and the Mueller appointment that occurred at the same time.

There was a lot of speculation and attempts to interpret these messages at the time. It was mostly guesswork, and again, there was no way to know it wasn't just a troll.

If you've closely followed spygate, you should remember vaguely remember this stuff. But go back and slowly read the texts and article linked.

"5/17/2017 "Hey all, been watching in. Here with S in GT outpost. All go from us. Huck, will send memo to the usual place. Do your magic."

Any troll could make up some fake insider texts. But these seem to align perfectly with the Richman leaks.

The message previously cited appears to be reporter Schmidt, using the same "magic" phrase. It's also consistent with being told about a memo the day prior from Richman. The "usual place" would obviously refer to a media outlet (NYT I believe).

I mean. What are the odds of that? The timing. The words.

How on earth could someone fabricate that?

Ukraine to lose key city within one week – Russian military commander

Kiev is lying about the situation on the ground, according to the Defense Ministry in Moscow

Russian troops expect to fully capture the city of Kupyansk in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region within the coming week, according to the commander of the assault unit involved in the operation.Kiev has continued to deny the gravity of the situation on the ground.

The Russian Defense Ministry says that the position of Ukrainian forces encircled near Kupyansk continues to deteriorate rapidly,leaving them no chance of escape aside from surrendering to Russian troops.

The commander of the 121st Regiment of the 68th Motorized Rifle Division, call sign Lavrik, said that his unit cleared 25 buildings in the city on Wednesday alone and “continues to advance.” “I am confident that the city will be completely liberated within the next week. Our morale is high, and we will accomplish our mission,” he said in a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Kupyansk, located in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region, and Krasnoarmeysk, in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic, had been encircled by Moscow’s forces.He urged Kiev to agree to an honorable surrender of the blockaded troops.

Moscow hasestimated that more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers are trapped in the two cities. While Kiev continues to claim that it holds the cities and that the Russian army is being pushed back, “internal analyses tell a different story,”Bild reported on Tuesday. Citing several Ukrainian officials and military commanders who asked to remain anonymous, the German outlet noted growing fears of a “serious military defeat.”

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky previously claimed that the Russian military presence near Kupyansk was limited to a mere 60 troops and that the Ukrainian military had a roadmap for completing a “swipe” of the area, which he declined to disclose.

Zelensky is “divorced from reality,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday. “The head of the Kiev regime is fully divorced from reality and, after hearing untrue reports from [Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr] Syrsky, has no command of the operative situation on the ground,” the statement said.

Kupyansk has been a major contested logistics hub in the conflict’s northeastern front. Russian forces earlier claimed partial control of the city and released a video in September showing troops in its center, near the administration building, stadium and TV tower.
