Main Allegations and Findings (as asserted by Grassley & Graham)

The Steele Dossier was the primary evidence used to obtain four FISA warrants (October 2016 + three renewals in 2017) on Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser.

The FBI repeatedly misrepresented or omitted critical facts to the FISA court, especially:

That the dossier was funded by the Clinton campaign and DNC via Perkins Coie → Fusion GPS → Steele.

That Steele had extreme anti-Trump bias (Bruce Ohr told the FBI Steele was “desperate” that Trump not be elected).

That Steele lied to the FBI about his contacts with the media (he told the FBI he only shared the information with Fusion GPS and the FBI, but court filings in London and Glenn Simpson’s testimony show he briefed the Washington Post, New York Times, Yahoo News, CNN, the New Yorker, etc., in September–October 2016).

That the September 23, 2016 Yahoo News article (by Michael Isikoff) cited in the FISA application as “corroboration” was actually based on Steele himself — circular reporting.

After the FBI fired Steele as a source in October 2016 for leaking, senior DOJ official Bruce Ohr (whose wife worked for Fusion GPS) became an unauthorized back-channel to keep funneling Steele/Fusion GPS allegations into the FBI.

The FBI never told the FISA court about Steele’s firing, his bias, the Clinton funding, or Ohr’s role.

Steele appears to have lied either to the FBI or to a British court about his press contacts → this is the basis of the criminal referral under 18 U.S.C. § 1001.

The senators raise broader questions about:

Possible misuse of unverified, politically funded opposition research to spy on a U.S. citizen affiliated with an opposing campaign.

Leaks (Flynn–Kislyak calls, the FISA warrant itself, the Trump Tower briefing on the dossier).

Whether James Comey misled Congress about when the FBI first received Steele material.

Bottom Line

The FBI and DOJ appear to have misled the FISA court repeatedly in order to obtain and renew surveillance on Carter Page, relying almost entirely on uncorroborated, politically funded allegations from a source (Steele) who was eventually fired for lying/leaking and who had admitted extreme bias against Trump.

Venezuela’s Jews and millions of others could face a war they did not choose

As war in Venezuela looms and the President of the United States orders the sky shut, I ask: Remember the innocent people of Venezuela. Remember our Jewish brothers and sisters who live there.

Yesterday, President Donald Trump declared in capital letters: "THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.” He posted it on Truth Social, his preferred platform for announcing peace, and now it appears, war.

It was the most surreal moment yet in a heated exchange that has been building for months as Venezuela and President Nicolás Maduro became front and center of the American political conversation.

We watched videos of President Maduro dancing to a remix of his own words: “No war, yes peace,” while President Trump posted a video from US strikes on vessels at sea. But none of it felt as dramatic as an American President declaring Venezuelan airspace sealed.

Seeing those headlines brought me back to March of last year, when my cousin Rabbi Moshe Klein and I embarked on a journey to visit Venezuela, and its large Jewish community, a daring trip few Americans and even fewer Jews would attempt.

Rabbi Klein, who is known for dedicating his life to preserving, documenting, and visiting Jewish communities around the world, invited me to join him. I was curious. I wanted to see this puzzling country with my own eyes and come to my own conclusions.

It was a Wednesday when we boarded Avior Flight 1203 to Caracas. As we made our way into Venezuelan airspace, the same airspace President Trump now deems closed, a Venezuelan national on the plane leaned over and whispered to us, “When you arrive, hide your money in your shoes so they don't take it from you.”

We landed. Greeted by airport walls plastered with posters offering bounties for tips on capturing Maduro's political opponent, Edmundo González. Yet for the most part, everything else felt strangely normal. The guards smiled, asked a few questions, and stamped my passport. "Bienvenido a Venezuela,” they said.

Driving into Caracas felt like driving down memory lane. Everything felt like the 90s. The city was distinct from many other South American countries I visited, including its neighboring Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It is a capital that was once clearly very wealthy, even sophisticated, but has long since entered deep decline. The nicest cars were from the early 2000s, barely any construction, building styles looked like those from the 1990s, and wherever we turned an eye, Maduro's face was staring back at us.

Our first stop was a local synagogue. We prayed with the community and were immediately invited to see Venezuelan Jewish life up close. What we found stunned us.

Schools, daycare centers, supermarkets, bakeries, businesses, including some of the largest in the country. An independent Hatzalah organization, youth programs, and numerous other synagogues catering to diverse Jewish communities. Venezuelan Jewish life was vibrant, organized, and alive. In many ways, it took me back to my Brooklyn childhood of the early 2000s, including the older-style ambulances. Very familiar.

We checked into a five-star hotel in the center of Caracas. It was beautiful, and empty. We saw maybe two other guests during our entire stay. Like the rest of the city, the hotel also felt stuck in the 90s. Bulky Italian furniture, a cassette tape recorder by the bed, a gold-plated shower head, the time has frozen.

The next day, we walked the streets of Caracas. We saw murals of Maduro's face everywhere. And then we bumped into a massive portrait of Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian general, assassinated by the United States, alongside flags of Venezuela and Iran, further highlighting the deep alliances that are shaping the region's politics.

Later that afternoon, I insisted that we visit Petare, one of the world's most notorious slums. Making our way there, our driver, a native of Caracas, protested: “I’ve lived here 50 years,” he said. “I’ve never gone there. You should not go.”

'Pray for true peace soon': Hungarian Jew falls fighting for Ukraine, buried in Kyiv

Benjamin Aser left the Hungarian military and enlisted in the Ukrainian army after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022

.A Hungarian Jewish soldier who fought in the Ukrainian military was buried in Kyiv on Thursday, after falling in combat in May, according to the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine (FJCU) and the Benjamin Aser Memorial Foundation.

Benjamin Aser left an administrative position in the Hungarian military about a year after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and enlisted in the Ukrainian military. The 21-year-old was unsatisfied with serving in a unit he believed was “quiet” and transferred to the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. He served as a combat medic and in logistics but ultimately volunteered to go to the front as a rifleman.

Aser was killed by a drone in the Kharkiv region on May 24. He fell while helping another foreign volunteer, ignoring orders to retreat in favor of holding the position to continue returning fire. Until now, Aser’s body wasn’t able to be returned from the front.

Nathan Aser, Benjamin’s father, arrived in Kyiv for the ceremony and had asked for his son to be buried in Ukraine because his heart was tied to the country and its people.

'Sacrificed his life to protect people from Russian terrorism': Azman

“For a Jew, by nature, it is difficult to sit at home when he sees injustice, when people are being killed,” said Azman.

“Benjamin came from Hungary and sacrificed his life to protect people from Russian terrorism. We hope and pray for true peace soon.”

The Benjamin Aser Memorial Foundation said on Facebook that the young volunteer’s memory would live on in the hearts of “every Ukrainian, Hungarian, Canadian, and Jewish person.”

“Benjamin’s deeds will not be forgotten. He stands as an example that true bravery resides in the strength of the soul and that the struggle for freedom is a common cause of all peoples,” the Toronto-based foundation wrote.

"This war is about defending honor, freedom, and human dignity, and Benjamin was among those who unhesitatingly stood on the side of truth.”

The FJCU offered its condolences to the Aser family, adding that every good deed tipped the scales toward the Messiah’s redemption when there would be no more war.

“This is a noble deed that will never be forgotten, and we will add his name to the long list of Jewish fallen,” said the FJCU.

MOSCOW, Nov 30 (Reuters) – Kazakhstan told Ukraine on Sunday to stop attacking the Black Sea terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which handles more than 1% of global oil, after a major drone attack halted exports and seriously damaged loading infrastructure.

The CPC, which includes Russian, Kazakh and U.S. shareholders, said it had halted operations after a mooring at its Russian terminal on the Black Sea was significantly damaged by a Ukrainian naval drone attack.

Ukraine this year mounted wave after wave of attacks on Russia’s oil refineries and crude oil terminals in an attempt to undermine one of the most important sources of income for the Russian war economy.

Kazakhstan’s foreign ministry said the drone attacks were the third such series of attacks on what it called “an exclusively civilian facility whose operation is safeguarded by norms of international law.”

ATTACK ON CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Kazakhstan “expresses its protest over yet another deliberate attack on the critical infrastructure of the international Caspian Pipeline Consortium in the waters of the Port of Novorossiysk,” the ministry said.

“We view what has occurred as an action harming the bilateral relations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ukraine, and we expect the Ukrainian side to take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.”

Ukraine said its actions were not directed against Kazakhstan or third parties and were only aimed at repelling what it called “full-scale Russian aggression.”

“Ukraine hits back at the aggressor,” Ukraine’s foreign ministry said.

CPC accounts for about 80% of oil exports from OPEC+ member Kazakhstan, which exported about 68.6 million tons of oil last year.

It brings crude from the Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kashagan fields of Kazakhstan to the Yuzhnaya Ozereevka terminal at Novorossiysk. CPC’s main suppliers are fields in Kazakhstan but it also collects crude from Russian producers.

TANKERS WITHDRAWN FROM CPC WATER AREA

The CPC’s 1,500 km (930 mile) pipeline includes Russian, Kazakhstan’s state-owned KazMunayGas, and units of Chevron CVX.N, Russia’s Lukoil LKOH.MM and ExxonMobil XOM.M as shareholders.

CPC said on Saturday that a November 29 naval drone attack on its terminal had “significantly damaged” Single-Point Mooring (SPM) 2 – essentially a floating buoy which connects to tankers to load oil.

“Further operation of Single Point Mooring 2 is not possible,” CPC said. “Loading operations and other operations were stopped (and) tankers were withdrawn from the CPC water area.”

“We believe that the attack on the CPC is an attack on the interests of the CPC member countries,” CPC said.

Ukraine says its attacks on infrastructure deep inside Russia are justified as it is fighting for its existence in what it casts as an imperial-style war launched by Russia which has targeted Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter.

Russia’s foreign ministry says the Ukrainian attacks amount to “acts of terrorism” and Russian officials say European powers are engaged in a hybrid war against Russia, which includes using Western intelligence agencies to help Kyiv target infrastructure deep inside Russia.

The ministry said the attacks threaten freedom of navigation in the region.

A law setting 50-50 shared custody as the state’s standard was hailed as a victory for fathers, but critics say it puts mothers and children at risk

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.—The dads were not all right.

It was 2017, and across Kentucky, divorced fathers were coming together against a common enemy: a custody system they felt favored their ex-wives.

Although custody laws in Kentucky and elsewhere granted judges discretion to decide what split was in a child’s best interest, aggrieved fathers claimed that this typically meant relegating them to the role of every-other-weekend “Disneyland dads,” forced to cram two days of fun into what mothers had two weeks to create.

“You become like ‘Uncle Dad’ instead of a parent,” said Rob Holdsworth, 53. In 2014, he reluctantly uprooted his life and civil-service career in Dayton, Ohio, to relocate to Bowling Green, where his ex-wife had moved with their two sons. He took the only job he could find—working nights in a soap factory—to see the boys just a few times a month.

“It was very depressing to be here, a couple of miles away from my kids, and be told I’m not going to get to see them more than that,” Holdsworth said.

Alone in the house near his sons’ elementary school—wandering in and out of their empty bedrooms, staring at the “Daddy you are our superhero” crayon poster they gave him for Father’s Day—Holdsworth had more time than he knew how to fill. He resolved to spend it lobbying for legislation granting dads like him more rights in a divorce or separation.

Around the country, the fathers’ rights movement was gaining momentum. Dividing time and decision-making equally between parents, advocates argued, reduced children’s feelings of abandonment, promoted gender equality and lowered tensions between feuding couples.

“There is no law that affects more people other than taxes or traffic,” said Matt Hale, vice chair of the National Parents Organization, an advocacy group formerly known as Fathers and Families. “Giving kids equal access to both their parents is just common sense.” Dads like Hale and Holdsworth found a sympathetic ear in lawmakers including Jason Nemes, a Kentucky state representative whose own father was his primary guardian after his parents divorced.

In 2018, Kentucky became the first state to pass a law making equally shared custody the default arrangement in divorces and separations. Four other states—Arkansas, West Virginia, Florida and Missouri—have since passed their own versions of Kentucky’s custody bill. Around 20 more are considering or close to passing similar laws, according to an analysis by the National Parents Organization.

The law has become a model for other states, not least because Kentucky’s divorce rate has plummeted. Between 2016 and 2023 it fell 25%, compared with a nationwide decline of 18%, according to an analysis by the National Center for Family & Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University.

Hale calls the drop in the divorce rate an unintended bonus of the custody law. He suggested that parents are increasingly likely to stay together because they realize they’ll be in regular touch regardless, so “they might as well work it out.” He added that he’s heard stories of couples who decided not to break up because of the presumption of shared custody, and years later are glad they stayed together.

Yet some argue that these impressive numbers hide a far more complicated story.

“People think divorce rates going down is a good thing and that it indicates stability in marriages, when that’s not always the case,” said Bowling Green family and marriage center assistant director Krista Westrick-Payne. She explained that the divorce rate typically goes down when couples believe the costs of leaving outweigh the benefits.

Some people are staying married to abusive partners, critics of the law say, because they are terrified of leaving their children alone with a parent with a history of violence. “They know their kids are safer if they stay,” said Elizabeth Martin, chief executive of the Louisville-based Center for Women and Family, which provides services to victims of domestic violence (most but not all of whom are women). “Even if it means taking some beatings.”

US Congress Orders Probe Of Hegseth Boat Order

Nov 29, 2025(Bloomberg) –Republican-led Senate and House committees say they will increase scrutiny of the Pentagon after a report said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the killing of all crew members of a vessel suspected to be carrying drugs, the Washington Post reports.

The Post reported earlier that Hegseth had given a spoken order that all people aboard the boat be killed, citing people who had spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Senator Roger Wicker, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Senator Jack Reed, the committee’s top Democrat, issued a statement Friday that they were aware of recent reports and have directed inquiries to the Department of Defense and will conduct “vigorous oversight,” according to the Post.

The leaders of the House Armed Services also issued a brief statement on Saturday saying they are taking bipartisan action to look into the operation, the paper said.

Hegseth claimed in a post on X that the department’s current operations in the Caribbean are “lawful under both US and international law.”
