Trump’s Top Economic Adviser Says Shutdown Won’t Affect Economy

 

The partial government shutdown initiated after Democrats refused to fund President Donald Trump’s $5.7 billion border wall will not significantly impact the economy, according to a top Trump economic advisor.

 

Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, told reporters Wednesday that some federal employees might miss a payday because of the government shutdown. Any overall impact on the economy would be minimal after the furloughed workers receive backpay after Congress passes a spending bill. (RELATED: Federal Workers Will Get Holiday Paychecks Even If Government Shuts Down)

The federal government went into a partial shutdown Friday night at midnight after Congress failed to come to a consensus on a spending bill. House Republicans passed a version of a spending bill that included $5.7 billion border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. The bill died in the Senate after Democrats largely refused to support it.

Recent volatility in the stock market has led some to blame the government shutdown for the unpredictable market behavior. The U.S. stock market took the largest Christmas Eve plunge in history Monday. The market bounced back Wednesday as the Dow rose as much as 562 points.

Trump, first lady in Iraq for surprise visit with troops – FOX (REAL) NEWS

 

President Trump and the first lady appeared in Iraq Wednesday for a surprise visit with troops and senior military leadership, where he said he has "no plans at all" to remove U.S. troops from the country.

 

The president arrived for the unannounced visit to Al Asad Air Base, where he was joined by National Security Adviser John Bolton for meetings with political and military leaders.

 

"President Trump and the First Lady traveled to Iraq late on Christmas night to visit with our troops and Senior Military leadership to thank them for their service, their success, and their sacrifice and to wish them a Merry Christmas," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Twitter.

 

Trump's surprise visit to the region came a week after he declared the Islamic State terror network “defeated” in Syria in a tweet and ordered all American diplomats and soldiers out of the country.

 

The U.S. first deployed troops to Syria in 2015 during the Obama administration as part of a partnership with Kurdish-led forces against ISIS. A year before the deployment, U.S. airstrikes also began in Syria.

 

Outgoing Defense Secretary Jim Mattis signed orders on Sunday to pull all American troops out of Syria in the coming weeks, a senior defense official told Fox News. Pentagon officials at the time refused to discuss specifics including the timeline citing operational security for the roughly 2,000 U.S. troops in Syria.

DHS Calls CDC To Investigate Growing Number Of Sick Migrants

 

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is requesting that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) investigate the cause of the growing number of sick migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, officials revealed to reporters Wednesday morning.

A DHS official told reporters that “literally dozens” of sick migrants are being transported to hospitals across the border each day and that growing numbers of children showing illness are present in border patrol custody.

 

“We’re doing dozens of hospital trips every single day with children that have fevers or manifest other medical conditions,” CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan told CBSNews Wednesday morning.

 

An official also told reporters that DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is requesting that Mexican authorities also investigate the living conditions of migrant holding camps across the border to see if that is the source of illness.

Gold standard does not work for several reasons.

  1. It will cause massive deflation in the US, and will constrain economic growth. This being obviously because the US will not be able to print money unless it holds correspo sing gold reserves, REGARDLESS, of whether new value, innovation, is wealth is created.

 

  1. Most importantly, for the sake of the argument let’s say ((They)) [the “international bankers”] control 60% of the gold supply. This means de facto they will control the value of the US dollar. They could flood the market, pull all gold out, and other such tactics. While this is likely better than the current system, it’s fundamentally not that much different. The US as a nation does not control its money supply. Yes this does mean treasury has to be judicious with its job control inflation and money supply the same way the FED does (terribly).

 

But anon fiat money has no value lol, this is dumb.

 

No it’s the solution to our current problem. The money is backed by the US economy and US assets. Money, including gold, is only as valuable as people will pay for it. If the US has sound money and a growing economy, our currency becomes more valuable.
