Bernie Sanders, who lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Hillary Clinton in 2016, says he will run again in 2020. The 77-year-old Vermont senator enjoys great popularity among millennials for his progressive ideas.

The Canadian government is donating 20 million dollars to the Clinton Foundation. The money will distributed over four years to assist in sexual and reproductive health programs in Nigeria.

Canada’s announcement of funding of up to $241.5 million at the Family Planning Summit will support projects that will provide critical sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and information and advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

This investment is part of Canada’s $650-million comprehensive approach to address gaps in funding for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and $840 million for humanitarian assistance in response to the crises in Iraq and Syria and the impact of these crises on Jordan and Lebanon.

BERLIN — The Trump administration is launching a global campaign to end the criminalization of homosexuality in dozens of nations where it's still illegal to be gay, U.S. officials tell NBC News, a bid aimed in part at denouncing Iran over its human rights record.

U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest-profile openly gay person in the Trump administration, is leading the effort, which kicks off Tuesday evening in Berlin. The U.S. embassy is flying in LGBT activists from across Europe for a strategy dinner to plan to push for decriminalization in places that still outlaw homosexuality — mostly concentrated in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.

“It is concerning that, in the 21st century, some 70 countries continue to have laws that criminalize LGBTI status or conduct,” said a U.S. official involved in organizing the event.

Although the decriminalization strategy is still being hashed out, officials say it’s likely to include working with global organizations like the United Nations, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, as well as other countries whose laws already allow for gay rights. Other U.S. embassies and diplomatic posts throughout Europe, including the U.S. Mission to the E.U., are involved, as is the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.

Narrowly focused on criminalization, rather than broader LGBT issues like same-sex marriage, the campaign was conceived partly in response to the recent reported execution by hanging of a young gay man in Iran, the Trump administration’s top geopolitical foe.

Grenell, as Trump’s envoy to Germany, has been an outspoken Iran critic and has aggressively pressed European nations to abandon the 2015 nuclear deal and re-impose sanctions. But while the Trump administration has had some success in pressuring Iran through stepped-up U.S. penalties, efforts to bring the Europeans along have thus far largely fallen flat.

Reframing the conversation on Iran around a human rights issue that enjoys broad support in Europe could help the United States and Europe reach a point of agreement on Iran. Grenell called the hanging “a wake-up call for anyone who supports basic human rights,” in Bild, a leading German newspaper, this month.

It is owned by a Dutchman named Ton Vermeulen for the past 20 years who we have visited together with my mother and Mr and Mrs Knipschild, the historian and his wife. Since then we have become friends and we have regular contact.

My husband and I have started a record collection composed of all the vinyl records we could find manufactured by ARTONE and later on by CBS Holland and SONY Holland and a few contemporary records from other records factories.

We have discovered the fascinating world of Vinyl and love listening to our records every night after work.

This blog is intended to share my passion for Vinyl with you as well as the story of my father, my family and the ARTONE factory (Record Industry now).

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Returned To The Supreme Court Bench

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg returned to the Supreme Court bench Tuesday after taking an extended leave of absence following lung cancer surgery.

The 85-year-old Justice has been "working from home" for the past several weeks, reviewing transcripts of oral arguments and Supreme Court briefs on key cases, and is expected to vote on all of the cases she "missed," according to CNN.

Ginsburg has been absent from the Court since suffering a fall in November, that led to cracked ribs and the discovery of several cancerous nodes on her lungs (the first cases she missed in more than 25 years on the bench). After recovering from the fall, Ginsburg underwent surgery at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to remove at least two of the "cancerous nodes" in December. Doctors told media at the time that they believe they cut out all of Ginsburg's cancerous tissue, and that she was effectively cancer-free.

The Justice, who is among the Court's longest-serving members, took a seven-week leave of absence to recover, similar to absences Chief Justice William Rehnquist took when he was recovering from serious illness in 2004 and 2005. She officially returned to work at the Supreme Court on Friday, joining in with the other Justices in their regular Friday closed-door meeting.

Fox News reports that the Justice took her seat on the bench Tuesday morning "promptly at 10am," that she was wearing her "traditional lace collar," and that she "went on to ask a total of five questions to counsel on both sides of a patent law dispute, including the very first question." The case, Return Mail Inc. v. USPS, hinges on whether the Postal Service violated a patent on a system that processes returned mail items, and whether such items are patentable at all.

She returns just in time for several key cases, including a case on the "Trump administration's decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census," CNN reports. At the all-Court private meeting on Friday, she was part of the majority of Justices that agreed to accept the case.

Ginsburg's status was the subject of rampant speculation for weeks since her fall, particularly given that she is both the oldest member of the Court (by five years), and the most left-leaning. Liberals were obviously concerned that Ginsburg would be forced to retire – or worse, would die – during Donald Trump's presidency, allowing the Republican president to replace the most stalwartly liberal sitting Justice.

Conservatives were likewise watching Ginsburg's recovery with deep interest, similarly concerned that the Justice would not return to the bench in 2019. The Trump Administration was reportedly working with judicial policy organizations to formulate a "short list" of potential Supreme Court nominees who could replace Ginsburg if she failed to recover from both her injury and her surgery.

Ginsburg, however, has no intention of retiring any time soon. Fox News reports that Ginsburg has hired clerks to serve in her office in the court's 2019-2020 session, which begins next September. Although that may seem extreme, Ginsburg has handled worse than a lung cancer scare. She overcame cancer twice before, once in 1999 and once in 2009, and underwent surgery for a blocked artery in 2004.

Russia’s top diplomat stressed that Moscow has been consistently calling for overcoming the region's difficulties through political and diplomatic means

MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. Western efforts to impose foreign models of development on Middle Eastern states have undermined the balance that had taken centuries to establish, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his address to the participants of the Middle East conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

"The Middle East, which has been enduring a period of severe tests, still holds a central place on the global agenda. Both the future of the region’s governments, international security and stability hinge on how the situation will develop there," Lavrov said in his address to the forum, read out by Russian Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

"The methods of geopolitical engineering, attempts at imposing foreign models of development and values on the people of the Middle East and North Africa, especially through the use of force, have led to the weakening or collapse of states and an unprecedented surge in international terrorism across a whole number of countries. In addition, (it) has led to a massive migration crisis, destablizing the ethno-confessional balance that had consolidated throughout the centuries," Lavrov pointed out.

Russia’s top diplomat stressed that Moscow has been consistently calling for overcoming the region's difficulties through political and diplomatic means and by fully complying with international law.

On Tuesday, Moscow ushered in the eighth Middle East conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club. During the two-day forum, the participants are expected to discuss the war on terror, rebuilding Syria, collective security in the Middle East and the future of global hydrocarbon markets.
