China’s First Homegrown Jetliner Nears Commercial Debut

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), China’s state-owned aircraft manufacturer, expects to hand over the first C919 jetliners for commercial use to Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines in 2021, the company said Wednesday.

The airline signed an agreement with COMAC expressing interest in purchasing C919 planes in 2010.

The C919 was designed to rival the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, and to challenge Boeing and Airbus' dominance in global aircraft manufacturing markets. COMAC formally unveiled the concept of the C919 in 2009, and completed the first flight test in 2017.

Apart from the C919, COMAC makes two other aircraft models: the ARJ21 for short and mid-distance regional trips, and the CR929 for long-distance travel. The former is already in commercial use while the latter is still in development.

People close to the matter told Caixin that they're expecting more Chinese airlines to purchase aircraft from COMAC, as part of a strategic national aviation plan.

Pressure grows on FAA to ground 737 Max 8

U.S. aviation officials faced intensifying pressure Tuesday to ground the Boeing 737 Max 8 after other countries and airline carriers took that step following a second fatal crash in recent months involving the plane.

President Trump expressed concern that “airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly,” and congressional lawmakers and industry experts pressed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to keep the planes out of the sky in the name of safety.

“Continuing to fly an airplane that has been involved in two fatal crashes within just six months presents an unnecessary, potentially life-threatening risk to the traveling public,” Sen. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) called on the FAA to ground the planes pending an investigation into the causes of recent crashes, as did Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.).

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) became the first 2020 Democratic presidential candidate to wade into the discussion and questioned whether the Trump administration had ulterior motives in keeping the plane in the air.

“The FAA should follow their lead, reverse their decision and immediately ground this plane until its safety can be assured,” Warren said in a statement.

“In the coming weeks and months, Congress should hold hearings on whether an administration that famously refused to stand up to Saudi Arabia to protect foreign arms sales has once again put lives at risk for the same reason,” she added. “But that is a question to be answered another day.”

The FAA and Boeing had issued no such guidance as of Tuesday afternoon, even as the United Kingdom joined China, Australia, Indonesia and other countries in grounding the planes. More than 20 airline carriers did the same, including Norwegian Air, Cayman Airlines and Air China.

The Boeing 737 Max 8 model was involved in the Ethiopian Airlines crash Saturday that killed all 157 people on board. The same type of plane was involved in a Lion Air crash in Indonesia in October that killed 189 people.

The cause of each crash is the subject of ongoing investigations. U.S. transportation officials traveled this week to assist with the probe into the Ethiopian Airlines disaster.

If this sort of extreme censorship continues, pretty soon anybody that has anything even remotely important or interesting to say will be completely banned by Facebook. As you will see below, Facebook has just banned Zero Hedge, and they have also just announced that they will be systematically censoring any content that has “misinformation” about vaccines. Of course this is just the latest chapter in a relentless campaign by the social media giants to censor alternative sources of information. Since Donald Trump’s victory in November 2016, the social media crackdown has just gotten worse and worse, and it has gotten to the point where we can now safely say that free speech is dead on the major social media platforms.

It didn’t have to be this way. When Facebook, Twitter and the other major social media platforms were new, people were generally allowed to say whatever they wanted as long as they weren’t breaking any laws. As a result, people flocked to those platforms, and companies worth billions of dollars were created.

But now that those platforms are used by almost everyone, those in control have decided that only certain political viewpoints are acceptable, and the crackdown on dissenting voices has been unprecedented.

Yet with all that we have witnessed so far, I was still completely shocked when I learned that Facebook has banned all Zero Hedge content. This is what Zero Hedge is saying about the ban…

To be sure, as a for-profit enterprise with its own unique set of corporate “ethics”, Facebook has every right to impose whatever filters it desires on the media shared on its platform. It is entirely possible that one or more posts was flagged by Facebook’s “triggered” readers who merely alerted a censorship algo which blocked all content.

Alternatively, it is just as possible that Facebook simply decided to no longer allow its users to share our content in retaliation for our extensive coverage of what some have dubbed the platform’s “many problems”, including chronic privacy violations, mass abandonment by younger users, its gross and ongoing misrepresentation of fake users, ironically – in retrospect – its systematic censorship and back door government cooperation (those are just links from the past few weeks).

I have no idea why Facebook would place a blanket ban on all Zero Hedge material. I just went to share one of their articles on Facebook, and I was unable to do so.

Yes, Zero Hedge can be a little bit edgy at times, but the guys over there do really solid work, and from my perspective there is absolutely no justification that Facebook could possibly come up with for banning all content from the site.

We need to show our support for Zero Hedge, because if we don’t stand up now, eventually they will come for all the rest of us too.

In an annual spree to spend money during the last month of the fiscal year, the federal government spent millions on lobster tails, steak, alcohol, golf carts, and pianos in September 2018, according to a report (pdf) by OpenTheBooks.com.

Government agencies scramble to spend taxpayer money every September, lest Congress appropriate fewer funds the following year. In September last year, agencies spent $97 billion, an increase of 16 percent compared to the spending spree in fiscal year 2017, and a 39 percent increase from the same time in 2015.

The spending ballooned in the final week of the fiscal year, totaling $53 billion, more than the entire month of August. The government spent more than $10 billion per day on Sept. 27 and 28. Agencies spent 10 percent of all annual contract funds during the final week.

Mark Meadows, the chair of the conservative Freedom Caucus, wants to end Super PACs.

Meadows voted against House Democrats’ sweeping ethics and reform bill, which passed the chamber Friday morning on a party-line vote. But there were parts of it he agreed with, the North Carolina Republican told The Intercept.

One thing he supported, Meadows said, was the effort to reform election finance. He said that he’d tried, and failed, to add an amendment that would have eliminated Super PACs, or political action committees. However, H.R.1, a 600-page document, overall had “too many conflicting messages,” Meadows said, to get support “among conservative members.”

Super PACs remain the dark-money tool of choice for the political establishments of both parties, but Meadows’s move is a reflection of a growing consensus on both the far right and the far left that there is something wrong with the way that campaigns are financed today. From a practical perspective, rank-and-file lawmakers see Super PACs as unpredictable threats to their incumbency, and they are also deeply unpopular among the general public.

Meadows and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz introduced a bill last year that would have eliminated Super PACS, but that’s about as far as the common ground with the left goes. Instead of allowing individuals to contribute unlimited amounts to Super PACs, the legislation would allow those same people to give directly to the campaigns of the political candidates themselves.

Under current law, donors are capped at $2,700 per candidate. The Supreme Court, for now, has ruled that such limits are constitutional in order to maintain faith in elections and the lawmaking process, though conservative legal activists have long pushed to have them overturned. Feds Spend Millions on Lobster, Golf Carts, and Pianos in One Month Spending Spree

In an annual spree to spend money during the last month of the fiscal year, the federal government spent millions on lobster tails, steak, alcohol, golf carts, and pianos in September 2018, according to a report (pdf) by OpenTheBooks.com.

Government agencies scramble to spend taxpayer money every September, lest Congress appropriate fewer funds the following year. In September last year, agencies spent $97 billion, an increase of 16 percent compared to the spending spree in fiscal year 2017, and a 39 percent increase from the same time in 2015. The spending ballooned in the final week of the fiscal year, totaling $53 billion, more than the entire month of August. The government spent more than $10 billion per day on Sept. 27 and 28. Agencies spent 10 percent of all annual contract funds during the final week.

The Department of Defense spent $4.6 million on shellfish in September, including $2.3 million for snow crab, Alaskan king crab, and crab legs and claw, and $2.3 million for lobster tail. Lobster tails cost anywhere from $20 to $30 per pound. “This kind of waste has to stop. It’s an insult to taxpayers,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) wrote on Facebook. Lobster and crab were not the only luxury foods the government spent taxpayer money on. Agencies splurged $293,245 on steak, including ribeye, top sirloin, and flank steaks, and spent $308,994 on alcohol, according to the report. Agencies also splurged $53,004 on china tableware, $673,471 on golf carts and $1.7 million musical equipment including pianos, tubas, and trombones. Taxpayers also shouldered $7.7 million for iPhones and iPads and $9.8 million on workout and recreation equipment.

The largest portion of the spending spree, more than $25 billion, went to contractors in the Washington area. Texas and California ranked second and third with almost $9 billion and over $7 billion respectively.

“As the national debt surpasses $22 trillion, it’s time to end Washington’s use-it-or-lose-it spending culture,” the report concluded. “Ending this wasteful phenomenon would go a long way toward generating big savings and winning the public’s trust.” In total, the government spent $544 billion on contracts in fiscal year 2018, part of the $4.1 trillion total budget.

The report highlights the issue of rising government spending, which is the biggest domestic threat to national security, according to Director of National Security Dan Coats. The federal budget is expected to swell to $4.75 trillion in fiscal year 2020. The total national debt is more than $22 trillion. “I’m concerned that our increasing fractious political process, particularly with respect to federal spending, is threatening our ability to properly defend our nation both in the short term and especially in the long term,” Coats said on Feb. 13.

OIG theory

If the OIG found no intentional DOJ and FBI malfeasance in their June '18 report on 2016 FBI conduct/activity (Clinton-Trump), what's the likelihood of the same OIG finding malfeasance as it relates to DOJ/FBI FISA activity and the exact same people?

Think about it.

The 2018 report found no DOJ/FBI misconduct (only some bad judgement). There were no criminal referrals. There were recommendations for internal improvement, which Director Wray said the FBI would implement.

The June OIG report was the second OIG report of 2018 attached to the FBI (first was FBI media leaks which did result in McCabe referral). And the June report covered the totality of DOJ and FBI activity throughout 2016.

Three months prior to the June 2018 OIG final report being published, in March 2018 the third angle of the OIG review was opened. This third OIG review is specific to issues around FISA. This is the one all are awaiting.

It's important to note the Office of Inspector General FISA review/investigation of potential FISA abuses (opened March) was launched three months prior to the "Election Activity" final report in June 2016.

The time frame covered by the "Election Activity" review (OIG report 2) and the "FISA Activity" review (OIG report 3) are the same. The topics are different (FISA being more specific), but the people under review and time-frame therein are identical.

Three months after announcing the "FISA specific review", the OIG produced report 2 and stated there was no intentionally corrupt behavior the IG office could identify in the conduct of DOJ and FBI officials in 2016; only some very questionable judgement.

No criminal referrals were made as a result of the June OIG report; and by the time the "election review" report was finalized many of the reviewed FBI and DOJ officials had resigned, retired or been fired. [The remaining exits came shortly thereafter]

The question: If the OIG found no intentional corrupt activity in the June '18 report (only bad judgement); no referrals were made; and time period and people are exactly the same; how can the OIG produce a post-facto FISA review report with substantively different conclusions?

Bruce Ohr is likely still employed for the same reason the dispatch of Strzok was delayed. The OIG and INSD (inspection division) can only reach those still inside the system.

On the narrow issue of how the DOJ and FBI assembled, handled and used the FISA application, and subsequent Title-1 surveillance warrant, against the Trump campaign (and officials therein), Bruce Ohr is a key and central witness for the OIG.

Unlike the previous OIG report #2 (Election-era Issues) if the OIG can find direct and intentional "gross misconduct" (by referencing traditional and historic FISA application assembly therein), toward those officials who participated in the FISA assembly then it becomes possible the OIG report could potentially outline the FISA application resulted in serious fourth amendment civil rights violations.

And that could be a narrow opening toward legal issues for DOJ and FBI officials who participated in assembling an intentional fraudulently-based application to the FISA court.

Unfortunately, that approach is a very high bar for the OIG to reach. Again, the OIG would have to find "direct evidence" of "gross misconduct" resulting in civil rights violations. The defensive arguments would be filled w/ legal justification(s) and internal process discussion.

Unfortunately x 2, such outlined "fourth amendment" FISA abuse finding would also be adverse to the interests of a larger U.S. intelligence apparatus, and institutional participants, who rely on utilization of the FISA process and would seek to protect it.

I suspect the officials who abused the FISA court are also relying upon the necessity of the FISA process to protect themselves from too much scrutiny and sunlight.

An example of that reality is found with HPSCI Chairman Devin Nunes advocating for FISA renewal April '18.

As HPSCI Chairman @DevinNunes knew (still knows) the FISA process was abused for corrupt intent; however, he also knows it is a critical component and tool for the U.S. intelligence system and national security. Currently he is advocating for a much larger conversation about it.

Judicial Watch Files FOIA Lawsuit Against DOJ for Rosenstein Discussions of 25th Amendment and Remove of President Trump

Judicial Watch announced on Tuesday they will file a FOIA lawsuit against the Department of Justice for all records on Rod Rosenstein between May 8 and May 17, 2017 when FBI director James Comey was fired.

It was during this time that Rosenstein and top DOJ officials discussed secretly recording President Trump and removing him using the 25th Amendment.

Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for all records of communications of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein between May 8 and May 17, 2017.

Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit after the DOJ failed to respond to a September 21, 2018, FOIA request (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:19-cv-00481)). Judicial Watch seeks:

Any and all e-mails, text messages, or other records of communication addressed to or received by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein between May 8, 2017, and May 22, 2017.

The time period referred to in the suit was a critical one. On May 8, 2017, Rosenstein wrote a memo to President Trump recommending that FBI Director James Comey be fired. The next day, President Trump fired Comey. On May 17 Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Between May 8 and May 17, Rosenstein met with then-acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe and other senior Justice Department FBI officials and discussed invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump and whether Rosenstein and others should wear a wire to secretly record conversations with the President.

I've never been one to have anyone tell me I must DO anything. Even as a kid, I was stubborn and pushed backed. I admit, I did fall asleep as a young adult, but never to the extent I blindly followed others. Not sure if it was because of my faith in God which helped me to question things that I knew were wrong or if I inherited my mother's suspicious mind, but either way, I'm grateful to be fully awake along with all of you.

As many of you here, I will never allow myself to be complacent. Eternal vigilance is how must live forever more.
