Embarrassing: British Navy Fails at Tracking Russian Subs; Sailors Caught Doing Cocaine

Scandal in the British Navy. Sailors of the Talent nuclear submarine were caught using cocaine. It resulted in the disruption of the operation of tracking down Russian submarines in the North Sea.

It's reported HMS Talent should've gone on a raid last Sunday, but the day before the crew members attended a party after which seven sailors failed a drug test. They were fired and the submarine's departure was postponed.

The local press noted this wasn't the first time the submarine encountered troubles. Four years ago, this submarine was on a raid on tracking down Russians, but it hit an iceberg and almost sank.

Opioid Epidemic: Doctors Charged In 7 States For Prescribing Big Pharma Painkillers

In what is being dubbed the “largest opioid takedown” in the United States, 31 doctors spanning 7 states have been charged with prescribing drugs that are legal. However, the charges state that these doctors had illegally prescribed more than 32 million pain pills, including a dentist who unnecessarily pulled the teeth of his patients so he could prescribe pain pills.

According to the Washington Post, these arrests included doctors who prosecutors allege traded sex for opioid pain killer prescriptions. A total of 60 people were indicted, including the 31 doctors, seven pharmacists, eight nurse practitioners, and seven other licensed medical professionals. The charges stem from the government’s largest prescription-opioid takedown.

In Tennessee, a doctor who branded himself the “Rock Doc,” allegedly prescribed dangerous combinations of opioids and benzodiazepines, sometimes in exchange for sexual favors. Over the course of three years, prosecutors say he prescribed nearly 500,000 hydrocodone pills, 300,000 oxycodone pills, 1,500 fentanyl patches and more than 600,000 benzodiazepines. –Washington Post

But there are some who allege the government themselves, thanks to lobbying and Big Pharma’s money, are responsible for the opioid crisis, and they are only now trying to do damage control. This is yet another example of how the government screws up the economy and lives of the public then swoop in with some kind of “fix” that likely won’t fix anything at all.

Many of those addicted to opioid painkillers eventually take to the streets to get their drugs, where their “high” is much cheaper and more readily available. But this recent takedown did involve more than 350,000 illegal prescriptions written in Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia, according to indictments unsealed in federal court in Cincinnati.

“The opioid epidemic is the deadliest drug crisis in American history, and Appalachia has suffered the consequences more than perhaps any other region,” Attorney General William P. Barr said in a statement.

“That is the equivalent of one opioid dose for every man, woman and child” in the region, Brian Benczkowski, an assistant attorney general in charge of the Justice Department’s criminal division, said in an interview. “If these medical professionals behave like drug dealers, you can rest assured that the Justice Department is going to treat them like drug dealers.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the opioid epidemic has killed nearly 218,000 Americans between 1999 and 2017. While deaths from overdoses reach crisis levels, many have taken their power back, and either refused opioid prescriptions or decided against filling them. Last year, the department charged 162 defendants, including 76 doctors, for their roles in prescribing and distributing opioids and other dangerous narcotics.

Barr: Mueller Probe Did Not Present Sufficient Evidence to Establish Obstruction-of-Justice Offense

Attorney General William Barr said on April 18 that special counsel Robert Mueller did not provide sufficient evidence to support an obstruction-of-justice case against President Donald Trump.

“After carefully reviewing the facts and legal theories outlined in the report, and in consultation with the Office of Legal Counsel and other department lawyers, the deputy attorney general and I concluded that the evidence developed by the special counsel is not sufficient to establish that the president committed an obstruction-of-justice offense,” Barr said at a press conference.

Mueller, in his report, had not reached a prosecutorial judgment on the allegation of obstruction of justice and instead left the decision to the attorney general.

Barr said that he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein “disagreed with some of the special counsel’s legal theories,” but nevertheless “accepted the special counsel’s legal framework for purposes of our analysis and evaluated the evidence as presented by the special counsel in reaching our conclusion.”

In their report, the special counsel team presented 10 different episodes, which it then used to discuss potential legal theories for connecting the president’s actions to obstruction of justice.

The 10 episodes presented are wide ranging, from the circumstances of FBI Director James Comey’s firing, to the allegation that Trump asked White House legal counsel Don McGahn to request that the Justice Department fire Mueller.

U.S. Intelligence Institutionally Politicized Toward Democrats

John Gentry, who spent 12 years as a CIA analyst, criticized former senior intelligence leaders, including CIA Director John Brenan, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former deputy CIA director Michael Morell, along with former analyst Paul Pillar, for breaking decades-long prohibitions of publicly airing their liberal political views in attacking Trump.

The institutional bias outlined in a lengthy article in the quarterly International Journal of Intelligence and Counterintelligence risks undermining the role of intelligence in support of government leaders charged with making policy decisions.

Gentry stopped short of saying the widespread liberal bias of intelligence officials has influenced intelligence reports and products. However, he concludes that "bias may have crept into CIA analyses."

"A considerable body of evidence, much of it fragmentary, indicates that many CIA people have left-leaning political preferences, but less evidence shows that political bias influences CIA analyses," Gentry concludes.

A politicized workforce.

Politicization during the Obama administration also was evident at the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency, long criticized for its shortcomings in intelligence analysis and reporting on China's military. According to Gentry, under Obama, editors of the DIA's primary current intelligence report were notified to "avoid specifically identified terms that might trigger criticism of administration policy."

A threat to the republic.

Charles "Sam" Faddis, a former CIA operations officer, said countering politicization is a critical question. "A secret service that involves itself in partisan politics is a threat to the republic," Faddis said.

In my book Gaslighting: Recognize Manipulative and Emotionally Abusive People - and Break Free I detail how gaslighters typically use the following techniques:

1. They tell blatant lies.

You know it's an outright lie. Yet they are telling you this lie with a straight face. Why are they so blatant? Because they're setting up a precedent. Once they tell you a huge lie, you're not sure if anything they say is true. Keeping you unsteady and off-kilter is the goal.

1. They deny they ever said something, even though you have proof.

You know they said they would do something; you know you heard it. But they out and out deny it. It makes you start questioning your reality—maybe they never said that thing. And the more they do this, the more you question your reality and start accepting theirs.

1. They use what is near and dear to you as ammunition.

They know how important your kids are to you, and they know how important your identity is to you. So those may be one of the first things they attack. If you have kids, they tell you that you should not have had those children. They will tell you'd be a worthy person if only you didn't have a long list of negative traits. They attack the foundation of your being.

1. They wear you down over time.

This is one of the insidious things about gaslighting—it is done gradually, over time. A lie here, a lie there, a snide comment every so often…and then it starts ramping up. Even the brightest, most self-aware people can be sucked into gaslighting—it is that effective. It's the "frog in the frying pan" analogy: The heat is turned up slowly, so the frog never realizes what's happening to it.

1. Their actions do not match their words.

When dealing with a person or entity that gaslights, look at what they are doing rather than what they are saying. What they are saying means nothing; it is just talk. What they are doing is the issue.

1. They throw in positive reinforcement to confuse you.

This person or entity that is cutting you down, telling you that you don't have value, is now praising you for something you did. This adds an additional sense of uneasiness. You think, "Well maybe they aren't so bad." Yes, they are. This is a calculated attempt to keep you off-kilter—and again, to question your reality. Also look at what you were praised for; it is probably something that served the gaslighter.

1. They know confusion weakens people.

Gaslighters know that people like having a sense of stability and normalcy. Their goal is to uproot this and make you constantly question everything. And humans' natural tendency is to look to the person or entity that will help you feel more stable—and that happens to be the gaslighter.

1. They project.

They are a drug user or a cheater, yet they are constantly accusing you of that. This is done so often that you start trying to defend yourself, and are distracted from the gaslighter's own behavior.

1. They try to align people against you.

Gaslighters are masters at manipulating and finding the people they know will stand by them no matter what—and they use these people against you. They will make comments such as, "This person knows that you're not right," or "This person knows you're useless too." Keep in mind it does not mean that these people actually said these things. A gaslighter is a constant liar. When the gaslighter uses this tactic it makes you feel like you don't know who to trust or turn to—and that leads you right back to the gaslighter. And that's exactly what they want: Isolation gives them more control.

This is one of the most effective tools of the gaslighter, because it's dismissive. The gaslighter knows if they question your sanity, people will not believe you when you tell them the gaslighter is abusive or out-of-control. It's a master technique.

By telling you that everyone else (your family, the media) is a liar, it again makes you question your reality. You've never known someone with the audacity to do this, so they must be telling the truth, right? No. It's a manipulation technique. Ancestry.com apologized Thursday and took down a controversial ad that depicted an interracial couple discussing the possibility of fleeing to the north during the Civil War era after backlash online.

The ad, originally posted on the company's YouTube page earlier this month, depicted two "lovers" (according to the ad's title) running through the streets of a city in the 19th century American south, before stopping to discuss the possibility of heading north.

"Abigail," the white man in the ad says to his girlfriend, who is black. "We can escape to the North. There's a place we can be together, across the border."

"Will you leave with me?" he asks as the ad fades to black while showing the text, "without you, the story stops here."

Critics of the ad said that it whitewashed history, inaccurately portraying the rape of slaves by slaveowners instead as a consensual relationship between lovers.

"What the hell is this @Ancestry? Why do white people insist on romanticizing my Black female ancestors experiences with white men during slavery?" wrote Bishop Talbert Swan, a regional president of the NAACP.

The company apologized "for any offense that the ad may have caused" in a statement Thursday to BuzzFeed News, and the ad could no longer be found on Ancestry's YouTube page.

The Population Of New York City Falls For Only The Second Time This Decade

The largest city in the United States is seeing its population decline for only the second time in the past ten years, according to federal estimates. International migration into New York City has slowed at the same time as more residents have departed, which has caused the city's population to decline in both 2017 and 2018, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The city's population fell 0.47% compared with 2017, to 8.4 million - a number that was at odds with estimates. Census officials had estimated that New York’s population grew by about 7,000 in 2017, but revised figures show that it fell by about 39,000. New York City’s Department of City Planning officials said that the city's population expansion of the last decade - one that saw residents in the five boroughs grow by 2.7% between 2010 to 2018 - has begun its "inevitable slowdown".

“You cannot maintain that level of growth forever,” city planing’s chief demographer Joseph Salvo commented.

Net migration, measured as the sum of all people moving in and out of the city, has also fallen. In 2011, that figure grew by about 14,300, a reversal of a decade long downward trend. That number started falling again in 2013 and fell by about 87,000 in 2018.

Disenchantment with city life wasn't exclusive just to New York City, where the results were most pronounced. Several other cities in the U.S. reported declines as well. For instance, the LA metro area fell by 0.1% and Chicago fell by 0.2%. Pittsburgh and Cleveland also showed nominal drops. LA county posted losses in 2018 due to international migration and more residents leaving.

The number of residents in LA county fell 0.1%, to 10.1 million. The county’s population was nearly unchanged in 2017.

The new data also shows that international migration into NYC grew slower than previous estimates. Census officials predicted that NYC added an annual average of 78,000 residents from abroad during the period between 2010 to 2017. The actually number turned out to be 54,000 annually.

City planning officials have contested this number, however. They claim that a change in how the census counts international migration could be causing this category to be undercounted. They also claim the number could be too low when taking into account the new housing units built over the past few years. Staten Island was the only borough that posted small gains. Queens had the largest drop in 2018, posting 18,000 fewer people.

Outside of New York City, the state is seeing a similar exodus, likely helped along by new SALT tax changes. Only two New York counties grew by more than 1,000 people, according to Bloomberg. They were Orange County, with 2,148 residents, faster than any other, and Saratoga, by 1,061.

Between April 1, 2010 and July 1, 2018, domestic migration helped see New York post 1.2 million fewer citizens despite foreign immigration and births outnumbering deaths both cushioning the number.

Over the past year that data was available - from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018 - the state's population decreased by 48,510.

Schiff Spreads Trump-Russia Lies in Presser – Claims Trump’s Acts of Obstruction “Deeply Alarming” (VIDEO)

Leaker and liar Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) continued to spread Trump-Russia conspiracy theories in a press conference Thursday afternoon following the release of Mueller’s 448-page report.

“There was an extensive campaign by the Russians to interfere in our elections in 2016” and those efforts “were designed to help one party, Donald Trump, but hurt another, Hillary Clinton” Schiff said, spreading more lies.

There is zero evidence that the internet memes were designed to help one party or another. Furthermore, a handful of Facebook posts and some Russian Twitter trolls do not have the power to influence or interfere in a US presidential election.

The notion that some Russian internet trolls could have tilted the election is patently absurd.

Hillary Clinton lost the election because she was a lousy choice for the Dems — a woman with a corrupt, criminal past with a sexual predator for a husband.

“Whether these acts are criminal or not, whether the obstruction of justice was criminal or not…they are unquestionably dishonest, unethical, immoral and unpatriotic and should be condemned by every American,” Schiff said.

Mueller’s team of angry Democrat donors desperately tried to pin obstruction charges on President Trump and failed.

Glendale cop tied to Mexican Mafia and Armenian organized crime, federal officials say

As far back as 2015, a Glendale narcotics detective used burner phones to tip off gangsters about upcoming raids, once allowing a top target of federal law enforcement to elude arrest for a month, authorities said Tuesday.

John Saro Balian is also suspected of collaborating with other criminals to steal cars, presumably to sell abroad, and taking money to hunt someone down.

When confronted by federal agents in four interviews over the last year, authorities say Balian, 45, lied about his ties to the Mexican Mafia and Armenian organized crime in Southern California.

“I’m not [expletive] on anybody’s payroll,” he told the Los Angeles Police Department and FBI in one interview.

Now, the veteran officer who once served as the spokesman for the Glendale Police Department is facing up to five years in federal prison. Prosecutors this week charged Balian with one count of making false statements to federal investigators, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

“Mr. Balian moved in criminal circles and operated as though he was above the law by repeatedly lying to hide his criminal activity,” Paul Delacourt, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, said in a statement. “His alleged actions impeded legitimate investigations into organized violent crime and consequently presented a threat to public safety.”

It’s unclear whether Balian has retained an attorney.

Balian was identified as a person of interest by the FBI’s Eurasian Organized Crime Task Force, which in 2016 was probing ties between the Mexican Mafia and Armenian organized crime.

Since then, three confidential informants have described a series of troubling interactions with the detective — known to them as “Saro” — that are detailed in a 47-page affidavit supporting the complaint. In some cases, Balian appears to have instigated clashes between the two sides, according to court records. Investigators corroborated some of the informants’ stories with cellphone records, police reports and interviews.

In one incident, Balian allegedly offered an informant and a second man $100,000 to “scare” the bodyguard of an Armenian businessman in Commerce, a request that led to a shooting in July 2016.

In one case, that same informant described a situation in which Balian offered a tip about a gang sweep, allowing a top target — a Frogtown gang member — to flee before agents arrived.

“Tell your boy Bouncer that he’s the No. 1 on the list for tomorrow,” Balian warned, according to the affidavit. It took agents another month to arrest the target.

The informant also said Balian gave him locations of marijuana grow and drug stash houses — information he was privy to as an officer — and told him to “hit them” before law enforcement could execute their search warrants, according to the court filing.

Balian also allegedly instructed him to “slap around” people to persuade them to pay money. Armenians would not respect or pay him, Balian told the informant, if they didn’t fear him, the filing said.

Another informant met with Balian up to 15 times in 2015 and occasionally saw him wearing a badge and a gun. That person admitted to stealing more than a dozen high-value cars for Balian and his associate, the filing said. He said he’d leave the keys inside the car and park it on a designated street, where someone else would pick it up.

During a search of a third informant’s home, investigators found handwritten notes in the trash referencing “Saro” and possible cocaine shipments from Mexico. It’s unclear whether a transaction occurred and if Balian was involved.

Federal authorities Tuesday afternoon were searching Balian’s Seal Beach home, an FBI spokeswoman said. They were looking for evidence of racketeering, interference with commerce by robbery or extortion, and bribery, according to the affidavit.

Investigators first interviewed Balian in April of last year. He told them he was an expert on the Mexican Mafia when he worked for the Montebello Police Department, so he used to “stay on top of all these guys.” (End of article)

A last salute to a Raider: Air Force bids farewell to Lt. Col. Dick Cole

The Air Force on Thursday bid farewell to one of its most storied airmen, Lt. Col. Richard “Dick” Cole, in a service that included tributes from his son, the service’s top leaders, and fly-overs of modern and vintage aircraft from World War II.

Cole, who died April 9 at the age of 103, was the last living link to the Doolittle Raiders — 80 U.S. Army Air Forces airmen who flew 16 modified B-25B Mitchell bombers off of an aircraft carrier to strike mainland Japan, a few months after Pearl Harbor. Their mission took place on April 18, 1942 — 77 years to the day before Cole’s memorial service was held.

Cole, then a second lieutenant, was the co-pilot to Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, who planned and led the audacious, unprecedented raid. Though the mission caused only minor damage to its targets, it sent a message that America was ready to fight back, and buoyed spirits on the homefront.

During the service, which was held in Hangar 41 at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph in Texas, Cole’s son Rich spoke of his father’s quick wit and kind, humble nature.

“Dad would never have gone for this,” Rich Cole said with a chuckle. “But he can’t catch me, so we’re good to go.”

Cole was a loving father and husband, Rich said. He told a story about his brother Andy contracting spinal meningitis, which seared part of his brain. The doctors thought Andy would never walk or talk again and recommended the Cole family institutionalize him.

But Rich Cole said his father and mother brought Andy home, helped him learn to walk and talk again, and Andy lived with them for the rest of his life.

“Great men do great things,” Rich Cole said. “Good men do the right things. My father was a good man.”
