Polish ambassador to Israel attacked near his embassy in Tel Aviv

Ambassador Marek Magierowski managed to take a picture of the attacker and his vehicle, which led to the man's arrest 90 minutes later.

Poland's Ambassador to Israel, Marek Magierowski, was attacked on Tuesday outside the Polish Embassy in Tel Aviv, according to a report by the Hebrew website Ynet.

Magierowski was standing outside the embassy when a man started to physically and verbally assault him. The ambassador was too overwhelmed to understand the words his attacker said. All he heard was, "Polish, Polish," said Magierowski, Ynet reported.

The Polish Embassy immediately filed a complaint with the Israeli Police, while Magierowski filed a complaint with the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The ministry contacted the police and asked them, as well as the authorities charged with security of the foreign embassies in Tel Aviv, to treat the incident with the utmost importance.

Magierowski managed to take a picture of the attacker and his vehicle, which led to the man's arrest 90 minutes later. The ambassador was informed by the Foreign Ministry that the man had been arrested, and he commended the police and their efficiency.

"We received a report of an incident involving the Polish ambassador in Israel on Tuesday. A suspect approached the ambassador when he was sitting in his car and spat at him," The Police Spokesperson's Unit said in a statement. "Police forces arrived at the scene and began searching for the suspect, who was arrested in the area. The Suspect is a 65-years-old man from Herzliya, he was arrested and will appear before the court in Tel Aviv on Wednesday."

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma announced the indictment of 29 alleged members and co-conspirators of a drug trafficking organization with ties to the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). “Operation Smack Drago” was a long-term multi-agency investigation. According to the indictment, the organization’s leaders in Mexico supplied heroin to the Tulsa “cell heads.” These cell heads were also originally from Mexico but took up residence in Oklahoma. Stille Giovanni Gutierrez Vivanco was identified in the court filing as the leader of the Mexico group. According to the indictment, “the criminal organization smuggled heroin into the United States and transported the drug to storage locations in Tulsa where they prepared it for distribution throughout the United States.”

A select group of cell heads were responsible for managing the transportation of drugs from the Mexican border to Tulsa, the filing notes. Laundering techniques were then used to send proceeds out of the U.S. Cell heads were identified as Jose Garcia, 36, Edson Garcia-Velasquez, 25, and Norman Fabian Huerta Avalos, 36, according to a release.

The CJNG is blamed for much of the record-breaking violence in Mexico as they quickly move to take new operational territories.

Criminal charges handed down by a federal grand jury were announced Tuesday at a press conference hosted by U.S. Attorney Trent Shores.

Virginia Judge Takes Back Own Ruling Letting Non-Doctors Perform First-Trimester Abortions

A federal judge abandoned his own previous ruling to permit medical professionals who are not doctors to perform first-trimester abortions in Virginia on Tuesday. U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson walked back his May 6 ruling that Virginia’s “Physicians-Only Law” requiring doctors to perform first-trimester abortions is “‘unduly burdensome’ and therefore unconstitutional,” The Washington Post reported. Hudson granted a motion for summary judgment following his conclusion.

Hudson’s previous ruling would have allowed first-trimester abortions to be performed in clinics or hospitals in the presence of a medical professional, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants and midwives with appropriate training. A physician would not be required to perform the procedure, according to the ruling. Hudson, a George W. Bush appointee, ruled in 2010 that the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate was unconstitutional, according to the Post.

Abortion groups have long argued medical professionals and nurses should be able to perform first-trimester and medication abortions. Permitting only doctors to perform the procedures is an underhanded attempt to restrict abortion access, pro-choice groups argue. Hudson rescinded his ruling Tuesday.

“On further review, the Court is of the opinion that summary judgment was improvidently awarded,” he wrote. Lindsey Graham’s Immigration Bill Aims To Fix The Issues Fueling The Border Crisis

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham introduced an immigration bill that addresses numerous issues law enforcement officials say are driving the U.S.-Mexico border crisis. Graham outlined the four main points of his proposal during a Wednesday press conference, addressing the “broken and outdated” immigration laws that attracts illegal immigration from Central America. Overall, the bill calls for doubling the number of immigration judges, allowing those in ICE custody to be held for as long as 100 days, more readily deport unaccompanied children, and require those seeking asylum to do so in their home countries.

“What I’m trying to do is explain how to stop the flow from Central America, to regain control of our border, and stop a humanitarian crisis that I think is just going to get worse over time,” Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said during the press conference. Migrant children, whether they arrive at the border alone or with a family, cannot be detained for longer than 20 days. Leaders within the Department of Homeland Security have long urged Congress to extend this timeline, claiming it forces them to release illegal migrants into the U.S. while their cases are process. An extension to 100 days, Graham argues, would alleviate this issue.

The bill would also dramatically change the process for asylum seekers. Currently, thousands of Central Americans are reaching the U.S. border and applying for asylum — clogging U.S. immigration courts and essentially allowing many applicants to enter the country unabated as they wait for their cases to be adjudicated. Graham’s bill would mandate that applicants make their claims at American consulates in their home countries. He added that a facility in Mexico could possibly be established as well. The proposal would also treat unaccompanied minors from noncontiguous countries the same as those from Canada and Mexico, making it much easier to deport them in a timely manner.
