Kamala Harris says Israel meets human rights standards ‘overall’ (days after its forces wound 92 Palestinian civilians at protest)

 

n an interview with the New York Times, Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris said she believes Israel meets international human rights standards “overall.” The declaration comes less than a week after Israel wounded ninety-two Palestinian civilians during a weekly protest at the Gaza border, including twenty-eight children and four medics.

 

Harris made the comments about Israel during a New York Times feature, in which the paper asked a number of the candidates twenty-one questions. One of those questions was, “Do you think Israel meets international standards of human rights?”

 

Harris: I think that Israel as a country is dedicated to being a democracy, and is one of our closest friends in that region and that we should understand the shared values and priorities that we have as a democracy, and conduct foreign policy in a way that is consistent with understanding the alignment between the American people and the people of Israel.

 

New York Times: Does Israel meet human rights standards to your personal satisfaction?

 

Harris: Well, talk in more detail, what specifically are your referring to?

 

New York Times: As a country overall in terms of how they–

Ilhan Omar retweeted a video clip Thursday in which from CNN contributor Angela Rye argued that the United States is on a path that will lead to "death camps." Rye's comments were made during a Tuesday night debate with fellow contributor and Trump supporter Steve Cortes. The two of them were arguing over comments made by Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez alleging that the migrant camps housing detained immigrants are the equivalent of "concentration camps."

 

"Before we are American, we are human beings, and it is not OK, it is a damn shame what is happening at this border and the fact that you’re going to justify it by economics," Rye stated. Ex-Interpol chief pleads guilty to corruption: China state media

 

Former Interpol chief Meng Hongwei has pleaded guilty to charges of accepting bribes, Chinese state media reported.

 

Meng - a Chinese citizen - has been under investigation since October 2018. He is accused of taking 14.5 million yuan ($2.1m) in unlawful payments between 2005 and 2017, using his status and positions, including as vice minister of public security and Marine Police Chief to accumulate the money.

 

He reportedly admitted his guilt during a court hearing on Thursday in the northern city of Tianjin in China, according to the People's Daily, an official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party's Central Committee.

 

Interpol, the global police coordination agency based in France, said last October that Meng had resigned as president, days after his wife Grace Meng reported him missing after he travelled back to China.

 

He was later accused of accepting bribes and expelled from the Communist Party, with China's Public Security Ministry saying in March that Meng's "poisonous influence" had to be "thoroughly eliminated".

 

It was not clear who Meng's lawyer was and news agencies have been unable to reach them or any legal representative for comment.

 

Chinese courts are tightly-controlled by the Communist Party and Meng is almost certain to be found guilty, Reuters news agency said.

 

The court will announce its verdict at a "select date or time," a statement from the court said, without specifying further.

Fall from grace

Jason Greenblatt, the Trump administration’s “peace process” envoy, met last week with Gilad Erdan, Israel’s minister of strategic affairs and public security who oversees Israel’s global operation to combat BDS – the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement for Palestinian rights.

 

Greenblatt took to Twitter to laud his “great meeting” with Erdan to discuss BDS, which he claimed is “anti-Semitic and hurts Israelis and Palestinians.” He also reaffirmed the “unshakable bond between our two countries.”

 

If Greenblatt and Erdan discussed coordinating efforts between Israel and the United States to counter BDS, then Greenblatt may be assisting a foreign government to violate a little known provision of the Arms Export Control Act (AECA).

 

According to this provision, if the president determines that a foreign country “engaged in a consistent pattern of acts of intimidation or harassment directed against individuals in the United States,” then “no letters of offer may be issued, no credits or guarantees may be extended, and no export licenses may be issued” for the export of US arms to that country.

 

The defense department, which oversees the implementation of the law along with the State Department, defines AECA as the “basic US law providing the authority and general rules for the conduct of foreign military sales and commercial sales of defense articles, defense services and training.”

 

As the elemental law governing foreign countries’ eligibility to purchase US weapons or receive them at US taxpayer expense, Israel’s violation of any aspect of this law could have enormous repercussions for bilateral relations and its ability to acquire a large portion of the weaponry that enables it to oppress the Palestinian people.

 

Previous advocacy efforts to hold Israel accountable for violating the AECA have largely centered on drawing attention to its impermissible usages of US weapons against Palestinian civilians.

 

The AECA strictly limits the usage of US weapons to “internal security,” “legitimate self-defense,” preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and participation in collective security arrangements.

 

However, despite the overwhelming evidence that Israel systematically misuses US weapons to commit gross human rights violations against Palestinians, the threat of sanctioning Israel for violating AECA has only been employed sporadically by the United States and only ever implemented by the Reagan administration in response to Israeli military actions in Lebanon and Iraq.

Mobile technology has transformed the way we live - how we read, work, communicate, shop and date. But we already know this.

 

What we have not yet grasped is the way the tiny machines in front of us are remolding our skeletons, possibly altering not just the behaviors we exhibit but the bodies we inhabit.

 

New research in biomechanics suggests that young people are developing hornlike spikes at the back of their skulls - bone spurs caused by the forward tilt of the head, which shifts weight from the spine to the muscles at the back of the head, causing bone growth in the connecting tendons and ligaments. The weight transfer that causes the buildup can be compared to the way the skin thickens into a callus as a response to pressure or abrasion.

 

The result is a hook or hornlike feature jutting out from the skull, just above the neck.

 

In academic papers, a pair of researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, argues that the prevalence of the bone growth in younger adults points to shifting body posture brought about by the use of modern technology. They say smartphones and other handheld devices are contorting the human form, requiring users to bend their heads forward to make sense of what's happening on the miniature screens.

 

The researchers said their discovery marks the first documentation of a physiological or skeletal adaptation to the penetration of advanced technology into everyday life.

 

Health experts warn of "text neck," and doctors have begun treating "texting thumb," which is not a clearly defined condition but bears resemblance to carpal tunnel syndrome. But prior research has not linked phone use to bone-deep changes in the body.

 

"An important question is what the future holds for the young adult populations in our study, when development of a degenerative process is evident in such an early stage of their lives?" ask the authors in their most recent paper, published in Nature Research's peer-reviewed, open access Scientific Reports. The study came out last year but has received fresh attention following the publication last week of a BBC story that considers, "How modern life is transforming the human skeleton."

 

Since then, the unusual formations have captured the attention of Australian media, and have variously been dubbed "head horns," "phone bones," "spikes" or "weird bumps."

 

Each is a fitting description, said David Shahar, the paper's first author, a chiropractor who recently completed a PhD in biomechanics at Sunshine Coast.

 

"That is up to anyone's imagination," he told The Washington Post. "You may say it looks like a bird's beak, a horn, a hook."

 

However it is designated, Shahar said, the formation is a sign of a serious deformity in posture that can cause chronic headaches and pain in the upper back and neck.

 

Part of what was striking about their findings, he said, was the size of the bone spurs, which are thought to be large if they measure 3 or 5 millimeters in length. An outgrowth was factored in to their research only if it measured 10 millimeters, or about two-fifths of an inch.

 

The danger is not the head horn itself, said Mark Sayers, an associate professor of biomechanics at Sunshine Coast who served as Shahar's supervisor and co-author. Rather, the formation is a "portent of something nasty going on elsewhere, a sign that the head and neck are not in the proper configuration," he told The Washington Post.

 

Their work began about three years ago with a pile of neck X-rays taken in Queensland. The images captured part of the skull, including the area where the bony projections, called enthesophytes, form at the back of the head.

U.S. Claims Iran Shot Down Its UAV Over International Waters Says It Was RQ-4A Global Hawk

 

The U.S. military claimed that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Crops (IRGC) had shot down its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the international airspace.

 

“U.S. Central Command can confirm that a U.S. Navy Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (or BAMS-D) ISR aircraft was shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile system while operating in international airspace over the Strait of Hormuz at approximately 11:35 p.m. GMT on June 19, 2019.” U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Urban, a spokesman for the Central Command (CENTCOM), said in a statement released on June 20.

 

The CENTCOM called the Iranian action “an unprovoked attack on a U.S. surveillance asset,” denying that the UAV had violated Iran’s airspace.

 

The U.S. military identified the UAV in its statement as a BAMS-D, a variant of the RQ-4A Global Hawk High-Altitude, Long, Endurance (HALE) UAV. Earlier, U.S. officials told news agencies that the UAV as a MQ-4C Triton, a specialized version of the global Hawk developed for the U.S. Navy.

 

The RQ-4N BAMS-D was the experimental precursor to the MQ-4C, developed under the same Broad Area Maritime Surveillance program, which explains the confusion.

 

BAMS UAVs were designed to provide the U.S. Navy with real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities over vast ocean and coastal regions.

 

The CENTCOM’s statement indicates that the U.S. is not willing to take the incident lightly. It’s unclear if Washington is planning to respond. Any such military action could lead to a serious conformation in the Persian Gulf.

Mysterious booms in Monroe County leave neighbors on edge nightly

 

STANFORD, Ind. — Neighbors in Monroe County aren’t afraid of what goes bump in the night, but they sure are frustrated by it.

 

For the past two weeks, loud booms have woken homeowners near Stanford, outside of Bloomington, in the middle of the night. They start around 11 p.m. and repeat every 15 to 30 minutes.

 

"It's keeping us up at night," one neighbor told us. "We are not able to go to sleep because we hear these loud noises, and my daughter is waking up.”

 

"It rattles the walls. The whole house shakes when it happens," Travis York said.

 

"The neighbor's dog, she starts pacing in the early evening because she knows it's coming," Cathy Hudson said.

 

“This last week and the last few days, it’s been quite a few every night,” Ronnie Campbell said.

 

Neighbors thought they may be fireworks, however, no one ever sees an explosion in the air. They believe it may be happening near Kirksville and Harmony Road.

 

"It looks like daylight outside when it happens, like it lights up the whole area," York said. His wife Kim added, "Our 9- and 10-year-old came back because they thought something had exploded in our house."

 

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said they have no reports of blast noises, but the people we spoke with said they’ve called to report it. Sheriff Brad Swain suggests it could be someone shooting at tannerite, which is an explosive target for marksmen. He also said the noise could be from operations at Crane Naval Base in nearby Green County, but neighbors believe that’s too far.

 

It appears the mystery remains.

Iran released a statement today saying they will not extend the deadline on salvaging the nuclear deal. European countries will have until July 8th to save the Obama-era deal and take concrete steps to shield Iran from U.S. sanctions or they will continue their program to enrich uranium.

Goldberg also said that a false flag attack would be used to escalate the situation which appears to be what we’ve seen take place in the Gulf of Oman with the two attack of two oil tankers.

The friend, who asked not to be identified, said that these documents referenced a meeting at the White House between Trump and two influential Jewish rabbis who told him they would deliver an election victory in 2020 if he played ball and helped them out with their agenda.

 

Goldberg intimated that these rabbis wielded considerable power and influence and, if word ever got out about the details outlined in the documents, it would not be good for Trump.

 

The friend said that copies of these documents were given to several trusted individuals for safekeeping in case something happened to him. They have retained an attorney on how best to proceed and said updates will follow.

Natixis Plunges After Its Ill-Named H20 Fund Sparks Panic Over Illiquid Holdings

 

Step aside Neil Woodford (and your disastrous investments in illiquid assets), and make room for French bank Natixis (and its own disastrous investments in illiquid assets), whose shares plunged 10% to the lowest in three years, after bond rating giant Morningstar suspended its rating on the woefully-named H2O Asset Management’s Allegro Fund yesterday, citing concerns over “the liquidity of certain bonds”.

The questionable Natixis holdings are linked to debt issued by Lars Windhorst, "a flamboyant German entrepreneur with a history of legal troubles" according to the FT, which first flagged the Allegro fund's shady holdings.

ome history: the London-based H20, which oversees about €30bn of assets, has been a subsidiary of Natixis Investment Managers since it was bought in July 2010. Executives sent a message to clients on Wednesday to reassure them about the liquidity of its investments and that its positions had been “fully disclosed to our clients and auditors”.

 

"The suspension raises concern about the quality of oversight by Natixis management of its network of asset managers," KBW analyst Jean-Pierre Lambert told the FT, adding that in the vein of the Woodford fiasco, the €250MM performance fee H20 pays Natixis could be affected, and questions should be raised about the French bank’s flurry of recent asset management acquisitions and stated ambition for more.

 

In response, Natixis said on Thursday that suspension of the rating has "absolutely no impact on the liquidity and performance of H2O’s funds. H2O will communicate shortly in detail to address all the questions raised by the publication of these elements.” The statement added that “the risk of a potential conflict of interest” raised by Morningstar was "groundless."

 

Of course, a few weeks ago, UK "investment legend" Neil Woodford said the same thing when a "fund run" on his assets resulted in an unprecedented gating of investors when the market is trading at all time highs. Now, it's Natixis' turn to discover just why all those warnings written here and elsewhere about illiquid bond investments should have been taken seriously.

According to a previous report by FT Alphaville, H2O’s filings list investments in more than €1.4bn of illiquid bonds linked to Windhorst, across six funds that allow retail investors to withdraw their money on a daily basis.

 

H2O appears to be by far the biggest investor in many of these bonds. It often holds the majority of the outstanding amount across the firm, according to FT calculations based on each fund’s latest regulatory filings.

 

Windhorst, once seen as a teenage prodigy and poster boy for entrepreneurship in his native Germany, saw his reputation crater after he presides over several insolvencies, a personal bankruptcy and received a suspended jail sentence in 2009. He relaunched his investment firm last month in an attempt to draw a line under several tricky years, which saw him and his company Sapinda engaged in legal battles involving at least €220m with several investors — including Ukraine-born billionaire Sir Len Blavatnik.

 

The plot thickened after H2O’s CEO, Bruno Crastes joined a new advisory board of Windhorst’s rebranded Tennor Holding last month, along with fund management heavyweights Martin Gilbert and Avenue's Marc Lasry, who is also vice-chairman of UK asset manager Standard Life Aberdeen. In all, across these investors, they owns tens of billions in illiquid bonds and may well be engaging in marking-to-myth by occasionally "buying" each other's bonds at specifics prices just to give the impression of a liquid market across billions in illiquid bond holdings.

 

Potential collusion aside, Morningstar on Wednesday said that Crastes’s board seat posed “a possible conflict of interest”.

Still, even if the "illiquid" H20 fund investments turn out to be a tempest in a teapot, Natixis has many other shady investment problems: the stock has plunged 36% in the past 12 months, even before today's 10% plunge.

In February the bank said its fourth-quarter earnings were cut in half after some Asian derivatives trades went bad, prompting questions about its risk appetite and management.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Thursday on party lines to support a controversial nominee to the California-based federal appeals court, overriding the objections of the state’s two senators.

 

Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Sen. Kamala Harris, both Democrats, argued that Daniel A. Bress, whom President Trump had nominated for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, has lived in California for only one year since high school and doesn’t practice law in the state.

 

“It's clear from his record that Mr. Bress does not have the connection to California that is necessary to represent the state on the 9th Circuit,” Feinstein said.

 

“He has lived and practiced law in Washington for most of his adult life,” she said. “I’m disappointed that the White House nominated him over the objections of both Sen. Harris and myself.”

 

The Republican-led committee voted to endorse Bress’ nomination 12-10, along party lines. The full Senate is expected to confirm his nomination.

 

Bress is the latest Trump judicial nominee to garner support from Republican senators despite lacking “blue slip” approval — the endorsement of senators from the candidate’s home state. Traditionally, the Senate gave home-state senators virtual veto power over judicial nominations.

 

That changed in February, when the Senate confirmed Trump nominee Eric Miller to the 9th Circuit despite the objections of both Democratic senators from his home state of Washington.

 

In the hearing Thursday, Feinstein argued that the “blue slip” system is necessary to ensure that federal judges are familiar with the complex legal challenges of the states where they preside.

 

“As senators, we have a right to demand that an individual being nominated to represent our state in a circuit court actually be a practicing lawyer based in that state,” she said.

 

Harris said she “strongly” opposes the nomination and thinks “this process is flawed.”

 

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), the committee chairman, said Republican support for Bress doesn’t mark a major break from Senate protocols. He said other judges had been approved for federal courts in states where they had not lived for years.

 

Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, Graham noted, was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, whose jurisdiction includes Colorado.

 

Gorsuch spent his childhood in Colorado but his family moved to Washington, D.C., when he was a teenager and he never moved back to the state.

 

Both of Colorado’s senators, including one Democrat, supported Gorsuch during the nomination process, however.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A 55-year-old astronomy and physics teacher at Columbia High School in Maplewood has been been arrested and charged with being in possession of digital files depicting the sexual exploitation of children, according to acting Union County Prosecutor Jennifer Davenport.

 

Michael A. Morrill, 55, has been charged with third-degree possession of child pornography.

 

An investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) subdivision of the Prosecutor's Office's Cyber Crime Task Force initiated earlier this year resulted in Morrill being identified as a suspect, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Derek Nececkas, who is prosecuting the case.

 

Last week, Prosecutor's Office Detectives executing a search warrant at Morrill's home on the 1800 block of Manor Drive in Union Township recovered the digital files on a laptop there, Nececkas said.

 

Also seized during the execution of the search warrant were two dozen other electronic devices, including a tablet, desktop computers, laptops, and removable hard drives and other storage devices, all of which will be forensically examined as part of the continuing investigation, authorities said.

 

Morrill has been employed by Columbia High School in Maplewood for nearly 25 years and the South Orange-Maplewood School district has been notified of the arrest and charges, authorities said.

The outraged opponents to the bill began chasing Representative Burn around the room. In order to escape the angry mob, Burn climbed out one of the third-floor windows of the Capitol. Mary Jo Kilroy was elected to Congress at the height of the financial crisis, in November 2008, to represent Columbus, Ohio, and the surrounding area. She landed a seat on the Financial Services Committee, where she had a chance to address the foreclosure crisis ripping through her state, as well as to push for tougher regulation of Wall Street.

 

As she learned to navigate Washington during her first term, one of the more unexpected pressures she faced was about a foreign trip. It wasn’t just any congressional sojourn, but rather a trip to Israel organized by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and sponsored by the nonprofit arm of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC. “I would say that I was ‘strongly encouraged’ to take the Steny Hoyer AIPAC trip. ‘Everyone’ is going except you,” recalled Kilroy, who resisted the pressure, telling AIPAC that she didn’t want to go on a one-sided tour of the region.

 

AIPAC, which for years had strong support from both political parties, has seen its influence dip in the Democratic Party as its increasingly hard-line approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict pushes it in an ever more aggressive direction.

 

Even in 2009, when Kilroy was invited, AIPAC was known for its hard-edged politics. “I told them that I would like to visit Israel sometime, but that I wanted a more objective view of the complex issues, and more inclusive meetings with knowledgeable people in Israel and Palestine, not one just from the AIPAC point of view,” she said. Aside from Hoyer and AIPAC’s Washington representatives, she got visits and phone calls, she said, from AIPAC supporters in Columbus “who also conveyed their desire to have me go on this trip.”

 

Ultimately, she did take a congressional trip to Israel, but it was the first one organized by a rival pro-Israel group, J Street, which takes a more moderate approach to the region’s politics. They visited Ramallah, a city in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel, she recalled, but Israel blocked the congressional delegation from entering the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory that has been under siege by Israel for more than a decade.

Suspect shot by Hardin County deputy after shooting deputy with crossbow

 

HARDIN COUNTY, Texas — A man who shot a Hardin County deputy with a crossbow has been shot following an officer-involved shooting Thursday.

 

A Hardin County deputy shot the 38-year-old man after the man shot an arrow at the deputy according to a news release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.

 

The man, who was conscious, was flown by a medical helicopter from the scene at Highway 105 and Old Sour Lake Road to a Southeast Texas hospital the release said.

 

The deputy was hit above the left eye and was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital according to the release.

 

The deputy was dispatched with a mental health case worker to a residence in the 30,000 block of Old Sour Lake Road at about 10:45 a.m. after the man’s family requested assistance from the mental health division at the sheriff’s office.

 

While they were communicating with the man he came out of the residence armed with the crossbow and shot the deputy the release said.

 

The deputy then shot the man with his service weapon to protect himself and others in the area the release said.

 

The Texas Rangers are now on the scene and will be leading the investigation.

The Supreme Court Upholds A War Memorial Cross On Public Land

 

The Supreme Court turned back a constitutional challenge to a 40-foot World War I memorial cross in Maryland Thursday, finding that the monument does not violate the First Amendment. Justice Samuel Alito delivered the opinion for the Court, with a total of seven justices finding that the memorial — known colloquially as the Peace Cross — should be upheld. The decision drew a deluge of separate opinions. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor were the two dissenters.

 

“After the First World War, the picture of row after row of plain white crosses marking the overseas graves of soldiers who had lost their lives in that horrible conflict was emblazoned on the minds of Americans at home, and the adoption of the cross as the Bladensburg memorial must be viewed in that historical context,” Alito wrote. “It has become a prominent community landmark, and its removal or radical alteration at this date would be seen by many not as a neutral act but as the manifestation of ‘a hostility toward religion,'” he added.

 

A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that the Peace Cross impermissibly endorses Christianity. The so-called “reasonable observer” test provides that government displays that are perceived to endorse or disparage a particular religion violate the First Amendment. “One simply cannot ignore the fact that for thousands of years the Latin cross has represented Christianity,” Judge Stephanie Thacker wrote for the majority. “Even in the memorial context, a Latin cross serves not simply as a generic symbol of death, but rather a Christian symbol of the death of Jesus Christ.” In a subsequent dissent, Judge Paul Niemeyer, who warned the decision imperils similar monuments within the 4th Circuit’s jurisdiction, including those at Arlington National Cemetery.

 

The case arose in 2014, when three Maryland residents sued the parks commission with the support of the American Humanist Association (AHA). The plaintiffs say that the Peace Cross violates the First Amendment’s ban on religious favoritism. The American Legion intervened in the case given its historical connection to the monument. The Legion originally erected the memorial shortly after World War I, but ceded control of the site to a Maryland state parks commission in 1961. Veterans groups still host annual programs at the Peace Cross. The parks commission and the Legion separately defended the memorial before the Supreme Court. The commission urged the courts to rule on narrow grounds, saying the monument does not draw and explicit connection to Christianity — rather it evokes European battle cemeteries, where crosses are regularly used as headstones. What’s more, the Cross itself features other secular symbols like the seal of the Legion, and it situated among other battle memorials.

 

All told, the history, context, and features of the memorial dilute whatever religious content the Peace Cross might have, the commission says. But the Legion took a bolder position, saying the courts should permit sectarian displays like the Peace Cross provided they do not proselytize or coerce onlookers into religious observance.

(WMT Brasilia), have agreed to pay a combined criminal penalty of $137 million to resolve the government’s investigation into violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). As today’s resolution shows, even the largest of U.S. companies operating abroad are bound by U.S. laws, and the Department of Justice will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute foreign corruption.”

DOJ Release: EDNY Gives Thanks to DO-Nothing NDNY [Thanks for Nothing]

 

Readers might enjoy the press release for the Department of Justice, US Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York [EDNY] announcing the conviction of Keith Alan Raniere.

It provides an insight into how they take credit for their victories. It is in large part a “thank you to one and all” – and I find it interesting that within their “one and all” they included the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York [NDNY].

As many readers know, the NDNY achieved considerable infamy for not prosecuting Raniere – for decades – despite their fielding the first and many subsequent, legitimate complaints about him and his deadly Nxivm criminal group.

Of course, in the last 24 hours, there’s been a great deal of applause and hearty commendations heaped upon the EDNY, and deservedly so. In retrospect, it was just about the prettiest little trial anyone ever saw in the conviction of such an ugly monster.

But, really, to thank the NDNY for their help? Isn’t that taking professional courtesy a bit too far?

The NDNY should have been the ones who convicted Raniere and thanked the EDNY. They muffed it. Muffed it for years. The NDNY qualifies for “buffoon law enforcement agency of the ages.”

It was they who were first given evidence of NXIVM’s criminal activities – and lots of it. It was the NDNY that kept ignoring the pleas of women brutalized by Raniere, who kept turning a deaf ear to them. It was the NDNY that permitted [when they could have done something] the terror and the torment [not to mention the branding and blackmailing] of a hundred victims – right in their home turf.

And now they get thanks from the EDNY – who – from outside the area where Raniere committed most of his crimes – went in and did their job for them.

The thank you to the NDNY – it’s pure, classic, stinging irony.

Perhaps, the real meaning of the thanks, the shout-out they got from the EDNY, should be gleaned from between the lines: What brought splendor and honor to the EDNY and Assistant US Attorneys Moira Kim Penza, Tanya Hajjar and Mark J. Lesko, and their boss, Trump appointee Richard P. Donoghue, is the fact that they went after the monster and took him down.

While the NDNY did nothing.

Had the NDNY done their job, then the EDNY would not have had their moment in the sun – their historic, complete, colossal, efficient, brilliant, innovative, precedent-setting take-down of a dangerous, sex-trafficking, racketeering cult backed by the Bronfman liquor fortune.

No, if it weren’t for the NDNY’s buffoonery – the EDNY would not have had a chance to accomplish this glorious work. So let me add my thanks to theirs.

Constantinople actually recognized this schism as legitimate, calling for Saint Tikhon to resign, slandering him, while his canonical Church was persecuted, and believers were even executed for refusing to support the “Renovationist Church”.

 

That situation strongly resembles this one with modern Ukrainian schismatics, complete with Phanar support.

 

Today, Saint Tikhon is commemorated universally as a Saint, who is very popular in America as well, having consecrated Saint Raphael of Brooklyn—a Syrian who considered himself as having a “Russian soul”—as the first hierarch on American soil.

 

Saint Tikhon is a Saint… and the renovationists… Where are they? They passed like the previous schismatics into ill memory, there is nothing left of them.

 

So, this leaves us with a question. Why would Constantinople do this, and why are they again supporting schismatics in Ukraine? The answer may be more politically based than people realize.

 

Interwar Chaos and the Population Exchange

 

WW1 ended not only the Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires, but also the Ottoman Empire. A great population exchange took place between the newly formed secular Turkish republic, and Greece, and as a result of which, the Ecumenical Patriarchate lost almost his entire flock.5

The Western powers were apparently concerned that Russia could exert influence on the Middle East, including Turkey, via the Orthodox populations therein. Historically, the West saw the Ottoman Empire as a check against Russia.

 

Take the Crimean War in the nineteenth century, when France and England were concerned that Russia would overcome the Ottomans who were torturing Orthodox Christians for centuries, and the Middle East would revive under Russian protection.

 

So what did the West do? They supported the Ottoman Empire in a war on Russian soil, killing Christian Russians in support of a Muslim Empire. Once again, the West sees Islamic Istanbul as a check against Christian Russia.

 

Athenagoras went on to meet with the pope and lift the Anathemas against him, and it seems from this time onward, the Ecumenical Patriarchate would remain firmly tied not only to the US Diaspora and Government, but to pro-Vatican ecumenism.

Conclusion: Constantinople has become a tool for Western politics

 

A simple historical picture becomes obvious:

 

Constantinople was a city of great Patriarchs, but also of great heretics like Nestor himself.

In 1971, Halki Seminary was closed; the future of the Patriarchate is called into question.

 

By 2018, The Patriarch of Constantinople has met and prayed with the Pope numerous times, and broke tradition allowing Priests to be remarried. The Patriarchate is at its weakest and smallest state yet.

 

In July of 2018, the US Government allegedly pressured the Patriarchate via their primary source of funding in relation to the GOARCH scandal.

 

In September of 2018, Constantinople invades the canonical territory of the UOC and the Moscow Patriarchate.

 

Note the trend: the closer Constantinople grew to foreign political powers, for example, the Ottoman Empire or the USA, the farther their practice came from Orthodoxy. The more Constantinople weakened throughout history, the more it strongly tilted to Western influence.

 

Constantinople has become a tool for Western powers, which most likely started this mess in Ukraine at their behest. One must only look at the illogical way this autocephaly movement was planned. Patriarch Bartholomew is not an unintelligent man; even if he is blinded by papal delusions, he had to know this would not work.

 

Already, so far, not a single Local Church has supported Constantinople or the schismatics, many churches and hierarchs have spoken out against Constantinople’s actions. One of the most famous English-speaking Bishops, the most esteemed Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware), a bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarchate himself, said:

 

“With all due respect to my Patriarch, I am bound to say that I agree with the view expressed by the Patriarchate of Moscow that Ukraine belongs to the Russian Church.”

 

Constantinople a few months before supports the canonical church, and then makes a total 180 turnaround, begins propagating papal grandeur, invading the canonical territory of the largest Orthodox Patriarchate in the world, and declaring they can grant and revoke autocephaly.

 

This was all as if planned by people who don’t understand how the Orthodox Church even works, or what is within the Ecumenical Patriarchs powers, but simply wish to create problems for Orthodoxy and Russia specifically…

 

It seems while being occupied and at the mercy of foreign political powers, it’s impossible for Constantinople to make rulings for the good of the rest of the Orthodox world. While Orthodoxy will not have any supreme papal figure—only Christ is the head of the Church—if there is going to be a first among equals—perhaps he should dwell in an Orthodox power strong enough to preserve its own sovereignty.

Witness drops bombshell confession at trial for Navy SEAL charged with murder

 

A witness testifying Thursday at the murder trial of Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher admitted to the killing of a teenage Iraqi militant for which Gallagher was on trial.

 

The Associated Press reported that Special Operator 1st Class Corey Scott claimed credit for the killing after being granted immunity by a judge in exchange for testimony for the prosecution. Prosecutors reportedly accused Scott of lying in order to protect Gallagher.

 

“So you can stand up there and you can lie about how you killed the ISIS prisoner so Chief Gallagher does not have to go to jail,” prosecutor Lt. Brian John asked Scott during the trial, according to the AP. “You don’t want Chief Gallagher to go to jail, do you?”

 

“He’s got a wife and family,” Scott reportedly responded. “I don’t think he should be spending his life in prison.”

 

Scott testified Thursday that he asphyxiated the young Iraqi militant as an act of mercy after Gallagher, who was treating the militant for injuries sustained in an airstrike, became enraged, stabbing the young man below the collarbone and then walking away without finishing treatment.

 

Gallagher was also accused by a former Navy SEAL during the trial of shooting at civilians out of malice, and referring to his captive as “just an ISIS dirtbag.”

 

Defense attorneys have reportedly argued that the soldiers have fabricated the allegations against Gallagher to prevent him from being promoted, due to his reputation as a demanding platoon leader.

 

Gallagher's case is one of several that President Trump is reportedly considering for a pardon, according to media reports. It would essentially make Colombia like Venezuela: the US would end most economic aid and automatically vote against Colombia getting loans from lenders such as the World Bank.

 

Between the years 2000 to 2012, coca production fell by about 70% and Peru even overtook Colombia as the world's biggest producer. But since then, figures have soared. The World Health Organization issued a report in 2015 calling the herbicide glyphosate possibly carcinogenic, which led the government to suspend aerial spraying of coca crops. Colombia‘s president wants to resume the spraying, but faces both political and legal challenges. Adam Isacson of the Washington Office on Latin America says: "Decertification is a more real possibility this year than in any past year.” Trump is seen as likely to ignore advice from Latin American experts if coca production rises even 5%. This would fall in line with Trump's pledge to cut hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to places like Guatemala and Honduras over their failure to curb migration - actions that also stood at odds with the advice of experts.

 

Tom Shannon, who was Trump’s under secretary of state for political affairs until June 2018 said: “The president has been frustrated with the increase in coca production and cocaine production and trafficking ever since he came to office and has looked for ways to signal his frustration. The frustration is felt not only at the White House but also in our Congress.”

 

Meanwhile, the US House of Representatives recommended that Colombia get $457 million in aid next year after receiving $418 million in 2019. The Colombia government said it plans to borrow $1.6 billion from multilateral lenders in 2020. If it were cut off, the government would have to rely more on issuing bonds. The decertification of Colombia could lead to making it a "pretty reluctant partner" of the U.S. on some issues, like Venezuela. Meanwhile, we reported just days ago on one of the largest cocaine busts in history, where $1 billion worth of the drug was discovered by authorities at the port of Philadelphia. The US has given Colombia more than $10 billion in aid since it implemented a multibillion dollar counternarcotics plan known as "Plan Colombia" under President Bill Clinton. But regardless, it was all for naught: Colombia now produces more cocaine then when the plan started. Carvajal concluded: “It’s frustrating having lost my legs so young. Drugs bring a lot of negative consequences, and not just to people who consume them.”

Combat Medic Testifies That He, Not Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, Killed ISIS Prisoner

Gallagher has denied the charges and the entire case was turned upside down Thursday when a combat medic testified that he, not Eddie Gallagher killed the ISIS fighter.

 

Special Operator 1st Class Corey Scott, a SEAL Team Seven medic, testified Thursday to shocked trial observers in a Naval Base courtroom in San Diego, California that he killed the ISIS fighter by asphyxiation.

 

“Did Chief Gallagher kill this terrorist?” Gallagher’s attorney Timothy Parlatore then asked Scott.

 

“No,” he replied.

 

Scott is a prosecution witness who has been granted immunity for his testimony.

 

“Why did you kill him?” Parlatore asked Scott during one point of the cross-examination.

 

“Because I knew he was going to die anyway,” Scott answered. “I wanted to save him from what was going to happen next to him.”

 

Scott also told the defense counsel that during his time serving overseas, he had witnessed the Iraqi Emergency Response Division “torture, rape and murder prisoners.”

 

“Is this why you asphyxiated him?” Parlatore asked. “Yes,” Scott replied.

Researchers find link between World Trade Center dust and prostate cancer

 

World Trade Center (WTC) responders with prostate cancer showed signs that exposure to dust from the World Trade Center site had activated chronic inflammation in their prostates, which may have contributed to their cancer, according to a study by Mount Sinai researchers in Molecular Cancer Research in June.

 

Inflammation has long been considered an important factor in prostate cancer progression. Researchers looked at the inflammatory and immune systems of World Trade Center responders to help prevent new prostate cancer cases in that group and to understand how other large-scale environmental exposures to multiple carcinogens may develop into cancer.

 

This is the first study of people who were exposed to the WTC dust and who subsequently developed prostate cancer. This research and further study of the expression of genes and pathways in other patients whose environmental exposures caused inflammation could lead to clinical trials that offer anti-inflammatory or immune-targeted therapies in similar cases.

 

“World Trade Center responders show an overall increase in cancer incidence, and specifically of certain cancer types such as prostate cancer,” said Emanuela Taioli, MD, PhD, Director of the Institute for Translational Epidemiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Associate Director for Population Science at The Tisch Cancer Institute. “It is important to address the reasons why this is happening in order to prevent new cases in this aging cohort. Our findings represent the first link between exposure to World Trade Center dust and prostate cancer.”

 

This work pairs data from first responders and from a study of rats exposed to actual dust from Ground Zero. The dust samples, which contain metals and organic compounds such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyl, are unique because they are the only existing samples taken on September 11, 2001. All other dust samples were collected after a significant storm on September 14, 2001.

 

Both the human and rat prostate cancer tissues show an increase in cells that indicate inflammation, specifically immune cells called T helper cells. Studies of the rat tissue and prostate cancer tissue samples taken from responders indicated to the Mount Sinai researchers that chronic inflammation started occurring in the prostate after exposure to the World Trade Center dust, and that inflammation may have contributed to prostate cancer.

 

“Several years ago, I saw a first responder in his 40s who began having symptoms of prostatitis, a painful condition that involves inflammation of the prostate, soon after exposure to the World Trade Center dust,” said William Oh, MD, Chief of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Deputy Director at The Tisch Cancer Institute. “He ultimately developed a high-grade prostate cancer several years later. It suggested to me that there might be a link between his exposure and cancer, but I knew that I would need to examine it systematically.”

Here's the real problem with central banks: They are simultaneously the financial regulators and the ones entrusted with the power to create money at will.

 

They can see all of your transactions. You can see none of theirs, unless they choose to reveal them.

 

They can create as much money as they want in secret and do whatever they like with it and nobody has the right to inspect what they do.

 

Now I'm sure everybody's thinking, "That's okay with me. Presumably they wouldn't abuse that power. They seem so upright and honest."

 

Please understand, if there's an entity that can create money at will in secret while you have to sell your labor every day to pay your bills, then you are a slave and that entity has enslaved you.

 

If, furthermore, that entity regulates all finance, meaning that it sees all transactions and can freeze any funds at any time without giving a reason, then you are completely hopelessly enslaved, tracked and controlled.

 

The lamented side-effects of central banks - malinvestment and economic cycles - are ludicrously irrelevant in comparison to the fact that these entities have enslaved the entire human race and everybody spends their entire lives working because money is always the limited resource, and this is by design.

 

The productivity of a human lifetime - your lifetime - has been stolen from you. Instead of building something that you envision that would make the world a better place, you are forced into servitude to earn money.

 

Another scam of the banking industry - mortgages and housing. You think you're working so that one day, you'll own your home, right?

 

Well shortly after that, you'll die, the house will be sold to another buyer with a mortgage and the money from the sale will be divided among family members who will spend it on vacations.

The Bond market is ded as far as generating any meaningful return. This is payback for the system dropping savings rates years ago.

FBI Ignored Repeated Warnings That Manafort 'Black Ledger' Might Be Fake

 

Just when you thought the Steele dossier was the only piece of "garbage" intel the FBI relied on in its efforts against the Trump campaign, The Hill's John Solomon reveals that Ukrainian officials thought Paul Manafort's "black cash ledger" was likely a fake which should not be relied on. The ledger, which was reported in 2016 and resulted in Manafort's resignation from the Trump campaign, purported to show $12.7 million in undisclosed cash payments designated for Manafort from former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's political party between 2007 and 2012.

 

The FBI relied on this ledger to obtain search warrant affidavits "months after the feds were warned repeatedly that the document couldn't be trusted and was likely a fake," according to Solomon, who cites documents and over a dozen interviews. "It was not to be considered a document of Manafort. It was not authenticated. And at that time it should not be used in any way to bring accusations against anybody," said Kholodnytsky, who says he told FBI agents the same thing. Manafort's Ukranian business partner, Konstantin Kilimnik - a longtime State Department informant - told the US government that the ledger was probably a fake shortly after an August 2016 article about it appeared in the New York Times. Kilimnik said in an August 2016 email to a senior US official that Manafort "could not have possibly taken large amounts of cash across three borders. It was always a different arrangement — payments were in wire transfers to his companies, which is not a violation," adding "I have some questions about this black cash stuff, because those published records do not make sense. The timeframe doesn’t match anything related to payments made to Manafort. … It does not match my records. All fees Manafort got were wires, not cash."

 

What's more, Mueller's team and the FBI had copies of Kilimnik's warning according to the report. Solomon points out that the FBI may have violated its own rules by knowingly submitting false or suspect evidence in a federal court proceeding. According to the FBI operating manual, "To establish probable cause, the affiant must demonstrate a basis for knowledge and belief that the facts are true." While neither Mueller nor the FBI cited the actual ledger, they cited media reports about it, and relied on those stories as sources.

 

According to liberal law professor, Alan Dershowitz, citing news articles is almost never done. "They are supposed to cite the primary evidence and not secondary evidence," he said, adding "It sounds to me like a fraud on the court, possibly a willful and deliberate fraud that should have consequences for both the court and the attorneys’ bar."
