The app designed by Shadow, Inc. to report results in the upcoming Nevada Caucus experienced technical malfunctions in testing even before the company’s Iowa app caused severe delays in reporting that state’s results, Vice’s Motherboard reported on Friday.

 

Nevada Democratic Party volunteers had been testing the app since early January and up to this week. When volunteers attempted to submit results for the first alignment, the app presented an β€œerror” message.

 

β€œBecause the deadline for the Nevada app was later, Shadow’s Nevada app was still in beta testing, and that testing identified some errors that were being fixed,” a company spokesperson told Motherboard. The spokesperson said the app had been on track for a β€œsuccessful rollout.”

 

Nevada will hold its caucus on February 22. After the results of the Iowa Caucus were delayed by systemic technical malfunctions with the Democratic Party’s reporting app, Nevada Democrats announced they would not use the app built for them by Shadow.

Silicon Valley heavyweights make up the liberal-leaning roster of Pacronym’s backers. One supporter is billionaire Michael Moritz, a partner at Sequoia Capital, whose net worth of $4.1 billion stems from his early bets on Google, LinkedIn and PayPal. According to Federal Election Committee data, he gave $1 million to Pacronym, or 12.8% of the $7.8 million that it has raised since early 2019.

Why Is The Government Turning 11 Military Bases Inside The United States Into Quarantine Camps?

 

If this coronavirus outbreak is not a serious threat, then why is the U.S. government preparing to quarantine victims all over America? (CNN)The seven motorcyclists killed in New Hampshire when a pickup truck collided with the group weren't the average bike enthusiasts.

Marine veterans and their spouses – members of the Jarheads Motorcycle Club – were among those killed Friday in the accident on Route 2 in Randolph that also left three people injured.

The motorcyclists were on their way to an event at the American Legion when they were hit by the pickup, Scott Swann, a member of the club, told CNN affiliate WMUR.

Dawn Brindley was riding with the group when they collided with a westbound 2016 Dodge 2500 truck.

 

"I was on inside," she told WMUR. "I saw the truck, I think. I don't even know. It was just all fire. I just laid my bike down and I just rolled.

"I just looked around. Somebody helped me up. I was just hysterical."

Brindley and Swann returned to the scene of the crash, where they placed an American flag – one for each victim – at the site, according to WMUR. Back at the hotel, where the club was staying, an American flag flew at half-staff.

"All our people are just good, hard-charging Marines," Swann said.

Those killed hailed from New England and ranged in age from 42 to 62, New Hampshire Deputy Attorney General Jane Young said Sunday. According to the chief medical examiner, each of the seven died of "blunt trauma," Young said.

The victims were identified as Michael Ferazzi, 62, of Contoocook, New Hampshire; Albert Mazza, 49, of Lee, New Hampshire; Daniel Pereira, 58, of Riverside, Rhode Island; Desma Oakes, 42, of Concord, New Hampshire; Aaron Perry, 45, of Farmington, New Hampshire; and Joanne and Edward Corr, both 58 and from Lakeville, Massachusetts.

Three riders were injured in the crash. Joshua Morin, 45, of Dalton, Massachusetts, was med-flighted from the scene and is being treated at the Maine Medical Center; and Steven Lewis, 58, of Brimfield, Massachusetts, was treated and released from an area hospital. A third person, who declined to be identified, was treated and released from an area hospital, authorities said.

Beatrice Engstrand, a neurologist who was staying at a nearby inn, said the flames from the fire reached about 20 feet high.

She ran to the scene with the inn's co-owner, Jerry Hamanne. They tried to assist as many people as they could. Engstrand applied a tourniquet to one injured man's leg and performed compressions on others until help arrived, she told the affiliate.

"It was just terrible," Hamanne said. "No one thought of taking photos or anything like that. You just want to help the people who were screaming and laying there in the road."

Truck driver identified as 23-year-old

Of the three injured in the crash, two were treated and released from local hospitals, and one was transported by air after the accident and remains hospitalized, according to New Hampshire State Police Col. Chris Wagner.

State police collision analysis and reconstruction teams are investigating the crash, along with local police and the Coos County Attorney's Office.

"The scene is pretty large and there's a lot of work to be done," New Hampshire State Police Capt. Chris Vetter said. "I don't know that I have ever seen a crash with this much loss of life. It was a pretty significant accident."

The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as Volodoymyr Zhukovskyy, 23, Coos County Attorney John McCormick said at a news conference Saturday.

Zhukovskyy was alone in the truck at the time of the collision, and he was working as a driver for a transportation company based in Springfield, Massachusetts, McCormick said.

 

No arrests have been made in connection to the crash, McCormick said.

Young declined to comment on whether the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene, or whether drugs or alcohol were involved, citing an ongoing investigation.

JPMorgan in talks to merge blockchain unit Quorum with startup ConsenSys

 

JPMorgan Chase & Co is in talks to merge its marquee blockchain unit Quorum with Brooklyn-based startup ConsenSys, according to people familiar with the plans. The deal is likely to be formally announced within the next six months, but financial terms are still unclear, the people said.

 

Around 25 people currently work on the Quorum team globally, and it is unclear whether they will join ConsenSys after the merger, the people said.

 

Blockchain emerged over a decade ago as the software tracking cryptocurrency transactions. Since then, banks and other large corporations have been investing millions of dollars to develop and test a range of business applications using the nascent technology. Efforts have had mixed results, with few projects achieving significant impact.

 

JPMorgan built the Quorum blockchain internally using the ethereum network, the software that underpins ether, one of the most well known cryptocurrencies.

 

It is being used by JPMorgan to run the Interbank Information Network, a payments network that involves more than 300 banks. JPMorgan, the largest U.S. bank by assets, also said it would use Quorum to issue a digital currency called JPMorgan Coin that it designed to make instantaneous payments using blockchain.

 

A merger with ConsenSys would have no impact on the IIN and other JPMorgan projects running on Quorum, one of the people said.

 

JPMorgan has been considering spinning off Quorum for around two years, evaluating options including setting up an open-source foundation, creating a new startup or merging it with another company, the person said.

 

A merger with ConsenSys was chosen as the best path forward as both organizations work with ethereum and have been involved in joint initiatives in the past.

 

ConsenSys, a prominent blockchain startup that grew rapidly during the 2017 crypto bubble, was founded by Joe Lubin, one of the co-founders of ethereum. The company announced last week that it had laid off around 14% of its staff, as it undergoes a restructuring to separate its software development business from its venture activities.

 

A merger with Quorum would align with its shift toward growing its software division.

 

Quorum is open source, meaning its code is free and may be modified and redistributed. The plan after the merger is to maintain the Quorum brand and keep the technology open source, one of the people said.

The attack by Chinese spies reached almost 30 U.S. companies, including Amazon and Apple, by compromising America’s technology supply chain, according to extensive interviews with government and corporate sources.

 

In 2015, Amazon DOT com Inc. began quietly evaluating a startup called Elemental Technologies, a potential acquisition to help with a major expansion of its streaming video service, known today as Amazon Prime Video. Based in Portland, Ore., Elemental made software for compressing massive video files and formatting them for different devices. Its technology had helped stream the Olympic Games online, communicate with the International Space Station, and funnel drone footage to the Central Intelligence Agency. Elemental’s national security contracts weren’t the main reason for the proposed acquisition, but they fit nicely with Amazon’s government businesses, such as the highly secure cloud that Amazon Web Services (AWS) was building for the CIA.

 

To help with due diligence, AWS, which was overseeing the prospective acquisition, hired a third-party company to scrutinize Elemental’s security, according to one person familiar with the process. The first pass uncovered troubling issues, prompting AWS to take a closer look at Elemental’s main product: the expensive servers that customers installed in their networks to handle the video compression. These servers were assembled for Elemental by Super Micro Computer Inc., a San Jose-based company (commonly known as Supermicro) that’s also one of the world’s biggest suppliers of server motherboards, the fiberglass-mounted clusters of chips and capacitors that act as the neurons of data centers large and small. In late spring of 2015, Elemental’s staff boxed up several servers and sent them to Ontario, Canada, for the third-party security company to test, the person says.

 

Nested on the servers’ motherboards, the testers found a tiny microchip, not much bigger than a grain of rice, that wasn’t part of the boards’ original design. Amazon reported the discovery to U.S. authorities, sending a shudder through the intelligence community. Elemental’s servers could be found in Department of Defense data centers, the CIA’s drone operations, and the onboard networks of Navy warships. And Elemental was just one of hundreds of Supermicro customers.

 

During the ensuing top-secret probe, which remains open more than three years later, investigators determined that the chips allowed the attackers to create a stealth doorway into any network that included the altered machines. Multiple people familiar with the matter say investigators found that the chips had been inserted at factories run by manufacturing subcontractors in China.

 

This attack was something graver than the software-based incidents the world has grown accustomed to seeing. Hardware hacks are more difficult to pull off and potentially more devastating, promising the kind of long-term, stealth access that spy agencies are willing to invest millions of dollars and many years to get.

There are two ways for spies to alter the guts of computer equipment. One, known as interdiction, consists of manipulating devices as they’re in transit from manufacturer to customer. This approach is favored by U.S. spy agencies, according to documents leaked by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. The other method involves seeding changes from the very beginning.

 

One country in particular has an advantage executing this kind of attack: China, which by some estimates makes 75 percent of the world’s mobile phones and 90 percent of its PCs. Still, to actually accomplish a seeding attack would mean developing a deep understanding of a product’s design, manipulating components at the factory, and ensuring that the doctored devices made it through the global logistics chain to the desired locationβ€”a feat akin to throwing a stick in the Yangtze River upstream from Shanghai and ensuring that it washes ashore in Seattle. β€œHaving a well-done, nation-state-level hardware implant surface would be like witnessing a unicorn jumping over a rainbow,” says Joe Grand, a hardware hacker and the founder of Grand Idea Studio Inc. β€œHardware is just so far off the radar, it’s almost treated like black magic.”

The Army’s Fort Carson in Colorado has decided not to put a controversial biker group known as the Iron Order Motorcycle Club on an off-limits blacklist. At least not yet.

 

"Don't take this as a final decision," said Lt. Col. Jason Brown, a spokesman for Maj. Gen. Ryan F. Gonsalves, commander of 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson. "Discussion regarding the safety of our soldiers and communities is a continuous process."

 

The Iron Order is particularly popular among current and former members of the military and law enforcement and is already barred at several other military installations.

 

The Fort Carson off-limits list, part of a May 2015 memo to troops signed by Gonsalves, states that soldiers will not actively advocate, associate with or participate in violent, extremist, or criminal groups, to include outlaw motorcycle gangs.

So I finally listened to Preying Medic's interview on the X22 Spotlight. At the end of the interview, he's describing all of the entities at the top of the pyramid and says Saudi Arabia controls all of the media and politicians. He never mentions Mossad or Israel. Today's Blind Items - $450K For One Night

How much would you pay to spend the night with someone? Would you pay $450K? That was the price paid for one night with this A list reality star. Let me back up though and tell you how this all came to be. Back in the day this man was a little starstruck, and had very big pockets. So, he started a company which really does not make very much money, but he used it as a tool to meet the stars he always wanted to meet. 95% of them are women and 95% of them he wanted to not only meet, but to have sex with. When he approached the first few women with his offers he was told that things could be arranged, but perhaps it would be better for everyone if these meetings happened outside the country. No problem said the man. The first few meetings were with the usual suspects. This former B list mostly movie actress turned gift loving fiend. The former B list mostly television actress who makes her living off reality television. The former A list reality star who turned into a hated C list celebrity. Our man was not happy with those. He wanted more and he ended up with more, but at some point he decided on his ultimate prize and paid $450K for one night. This one night though has had repercussions that no one could have foreseen when it happened. What was supposed to be quick payday could cost multiples more than that if it is forced to the light as some people want it to be.

California lawyer busted by feds for selling illegal guns, meth

 

A California lawyer was busted by ATF agents for allegedly selling a number of unlicensed guns and methamphetamine, authorities said Monday.

 

The suspect, Melinda Romines of Anaheim, acted as a middle man for black-market arms dealers, buying the weapons then re-selling them to customers, the ATF said in a statement.

 

In one of the deals, she allegedly sold a .40-caliber pistol, an AR-style rifle and a silencer to a buyer in a Los Angeles parking lot in 2018, the agency said. Both of the guns had their serial numbers scratched off, according to the statement.

 

In another parking lot a few months later, she allegedly sold another illegal .45-caliber pistol in a deal that made her $900.

 

A month later, she and an accomplice sold close to a quarter-pound of methamphetamine in two drug deals, the ATF said.

 

She was indicted on one count of conspiracy to engage in the business of dealing in firearms without a license, one count of possession of an unregistered firearm, and two counts of distributing methamphetamine, authorities said.

 

Romines could not immediately be reached for comment early Tuesday.

Official: Sudan to hand over al-Bashir for genocide trial

 

CAIRO (AP) β€” Sudan’s transitional authorities have agreed to hand over ousted autocrat Omar al-Bashir to the International Criminal Court to face trial on charges of war crimes and genocide, a top Sudanese official said Tuesday, in a deal with rebels to surrender all those wanted in connection with the Darfur conflict.

He not only was out of reach during his 30 years in power in Khartoum, but he also traveled abroad frequently to visit friendly leaders without fear of arrest. But the joint military-civilian Sovereign Council that has ruled Sudan since last summer has agreed with rebel groups in Darfur to hand over those wanted by the ICC to face justice in The Hague, according to Mohammed Hassan al-Taishi, a member of the council and a government negotiator.

 

He didn’t mention al-Bashir by name, but said, β€œWe agreed that everyone who had arrest warrants issued against them will appear before the ICC. I’m saying it very clearly.”

Air Force to retire 44 legendary A-10 Warthogs

 

The U.S. Air Force is set to retire 44 of A-10 Warthogs in the next fiscal year, according to the fiscal 2021 Air Force budget documents the Trump administration sent to Congress on Monday.

 

After years of plans to further their usage in the military, the Department of Defense is trimming the number of older aircraft which includes the legendary Cold-War era planes, Military.com reported.

 

The move in its entirety is reportedly set to free hundreds of billions of dollars for newer planes as tensions between the United States, Russia and China are on the rise.

 

However, the Air Force awarded a contract to Boeing in August worth $1 billion to produce upgrades to the A-10 Warthogs. At the time, that decision had officials believing the A-10 Warthogs would be in service for the next decade, Defense One reported.

 

β€œ[W]e are moving in the direction that we need to go after looking at our last few years doing land wars and now looking forward to a higher-end fight against an adversary that will have a higher capability,” the Joint Staff director of force structure, resources and assessment, Vice Adm.
