After researching since the 80s as a kid, long before the internet, I'd read everything I could get my hands on at the local libraries. Then again in the 90s onwards, on and off as life happens. Then reading books by President Trump around 2005 onwards. Then more research, then Q came along and kinda united all of us loner anons/autists. Much of the research from a lifetime came back fresh into my head and I seem to have connected many of the dots logically now.

 

As much as many of you are frustrated, myself included (believe me haha), we must stay the course and support Q. It is our only help, a unified front. For the first time in maybe hundreds of years, or ever, we have a large unified army of peaceful anons.

 

We serve under God!

We support President Trump and his awesome family and team.

We support all other anons, even ones who are under attack.

We fight in all spheres.

We never give up.

We shall be victorious with God!

 

Stay strong fellow anons, it is happening when it should happen.

In the meantime, prepare in every way you can imagine.

Be ready for everything that comes.

Be ready for all the questions that normies will be asking.

Mid-air plane collision kills four in Australia

 

Four people were killed in a mid-air collision between two light planes in Australia on Wednesday, scattering debris across a rural area north of Melbourne.

Police said the two twin-engined aircraft were each carrying a pilot and a passenger when they crashed around 1,200 meters above the town of Mangalore.

Images from the crash scene on the ground showed twisted metal and chunks of fuselage scattered in a field and among trees.

Police said both planes were flying legally in the area but investigations were ongoing.

"We're not sure why both aircraft were exactly on the same trajectory or why they were in that area but unfortunately they have collided mid-air," Police Inspector Peter Koger said.

One aircraft had just taken off from the nearby airfield but the other plane's origin was still unclear, he added.

"The command of the American forces in the region is flooding the trans-Euphrates region with weapons and munitions. Thus, since the beginning of 2020 alone, thirteen military convoys consisting of more than 80 armored vehicles, more than 300 heavy-duty trucks with various types of weapons, munitions and materiel have arrived in Syria from Iraq. The aggravated humanitarian situation in Syria’s northeastern regions and continuing shelling attacks by militants force civilian population to flee their homes for territories controlled by the Syrian government. "About 23,000 Syrians, mostly families with children and elderly people, have fled the area via the al-Salikhiyah checkpoint alone since the beginning of 2020," Zhuravlev noted.

 

He also said that three more checkpoints for civilians leaving the militants-controlled areas of the Idlib de-escalation zone were opened on February 17 in the settlements of Bjarez, Maarret al-Nuuman and Khabit. As many as 177, 171, and 35 people, respectively, used them to cross into government-controlled areas on February 18.

 

During the day, the Russian reconciliation center registered 29 shelling attacks by illegal armed groups in the Aleppo, Latakia and Hama governorates in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

 

Zhuravlev also said that the Russian military police had continued patrolling along a number of routes in the Aleppo governorate. "The patrolling missions were conducted in accordance with the plans. No incidents were reported during the mission," he noted.

 

The Russian reconciliation center continues to fulfill assigned tasks after the completion of the military campaign in Syria. A recent report by Naked Security from Sophos reveals that tech giant Google has pulled over 500 Chrome extensions from its Web Store after researchers discovered that many were stealing browser data and executing click fraud on the computers of millions of users.

 

Although Google claims to protect its users from fraud and malicious apps, the report makes the startling assertion that many of the illicit apps were made available by Google for up to a year, with some made available to Chrome users for even longer.

 

 

Naked Security writes:

 

The first giveaway was that the extension code often looked like copycats of one another despite small changes to the names of internal functions designed to obscure this.

Another troubling similarity was the number of permissions requested. Enough to allow them to access browsing data and run when visiting websites using HTTPS.

 

Working with Duo Security, they eventually identified 70 extensions that seemed to be related to one another. All also contacted similar command and control networks and seemed to have been designed to detect and counteract sandbox analysis.

 

Ad fraud was the biggest activity – contacting domains without the user being aware – as well as redirecting users to malware and phishing domains.

 

Naked Security notes that many of the extensions had been active for nearly a year with some possibly being around for longer. Google carried out its own investigation and found that over 500 extensions were infected.

 

Naked Security suggests that users take the following actions to prevent their browsers from becoming infected.

 

Install as few extensions as possible and, despite the above, only from official web stores.

Check the reviews and feedback from others who have installed the extension.

Pay attention to the developer’s reputation and how responsive they are to questions and how frequently they post version updates.

Study the permissions they ask for (in Chrome, SettingsExtensions> Details) and check they’re in line with the features of the extension. And if these permissions change, be suspicious.

Google pulls 500 malicious Chrome extensions after researcher tip-off

 

Google has abruptly pulled over 500 Chrome extensions from its Web Store that researchers discovered were stealing browsing data and executing click fraud and malvertising after installing themselves on the computers of millions of users.

 

Depending on which way you look at it, that’s either a good result because they’re no longer free to infect users, or an example of how easy it is for malicious extensions to sneak on the Web Store and stay there for years without Google noticing.

 

That they were noticed at all is thanks to researcher Jamila Kaya who used Duo Security’s CRXcavator tool (also available at CRXcavator.io) to spot a handful of extensions that seemed suspicious, mostly themed around marketing and advertising.

 

Spotting dodgy extensions was only the start – she still had to connect them to one another to uncover recurring patterns that might highlight other offenders.

Many of the extensions had been active for nearly a year, with evidence some had been around for much longer.

 

Google carried out its own fingerprinting based on the research and the number of dubious extensions ballooned to over 500. Google later said:

 

We do regular sweeps to find extensions using similar techniques, code, and behaviors, and take down those extensions if they violate our policies.

 

Except, an infected user might point out, not often or effectively enough to stop 500 malicious extensions from finding a home inside the Chrome Web Store.

 

The extensions discovered by Duo Security and Kaya had been installed a total of 1.7 million times.

 

Google’s Chrome Web Store has around 190,000 extensions, which puts the loss of 500 dubious ones into perspective. That said, a report by Extension Monitor last August estimated that three-quarters of these have between zero and a handful of installs.

 

Perhaps the sheer number is part of the problem. Malicious extensions have a large population of unused software in which to hide.

 

Mozilla’s Firefox has experienced the same issue on a smaller scale to the extent that it recently banned 197 risky extensions and reminded everyone that it no longer tolerates extensions that execute remote code.

 

Anyone using one of the now-suspended 500 extensions will find they’ve automatically been deactivated in their browser, with warnings that mark them as malicious. Deinstallation must be done from the user’s side, however.

 

The lesson is not to assume that because an extension is hosted from an official web store that means it is safe to use. The best advice:

 

Install as few extensions as possible and, despite the above, only from official web stores.

Check the reviews and feedback from others who have installed the extension.

Pay attention to the developer’s reputation and how responsive they are to questions and how frequently they post version updates.

But, as for the colours, i have found what works best and it seems consistent.

 

As for different locations, well i agree that will have an impact, but currently it is confounded with the fact that only some people can feel the energy from an image.

 

In my experience, about 90% can feel energy from a physical design I demo in person, but 50% from an image, but fewer feel energy from images in person too because images aren't as good as, say wire.

 

Just a lot easier to send over the internet, and save and modify and copy etc…

So, a few things you need to recognize, when I am talking about aetheric energies, I am using "friction" as an analogy, though the analogy seems rather apt.

 

It does create an energy that feels like heat, so I think it is a phenomena like friction, but friction of aetheric energies which are, well I don't know what they are. I don't know if they have what should be termed rest mass.

 

Anyway, I said that friction isn't really about inertia, and well, I'm right, sure inertia is one method of resisting instant deceleration, but it isn't the only one, you can make friction with something that has negligible (and in theory zero) inertial mass, you just need to be applying a force to it.

 

Anyway, then you go on to say it is about heat and energy loss, well yes both of those things do occur, but you were saying that it had to do with inertia, then you change that to heat and energy loss. Well, again, the aetheric energies do manifest such an effect, but does the aetheric energies have what regular matter would recognize as heat, friction, mass?

 

Perhaps mostly, no. Because mostly these energies aren't readily measurable by most instruments.

 

Even so, the friction and inertia might be in a sense "independent" to the physical manifestation of these things under normal circumstances.

 

Though, ultimately it is my goal to figure out how to bring those aetheric qualities to physical manifestation that can be measured by crude instruments.

I am not saying that these don't work aetherically, but I tend to think they are more symbolic.

I have found that even regular words and numbers and measurements work symbolically, I had an interesting demo of that one day when i felt energy jump from a described length on a table of legths.

“Over nearly two decades, von der Goltz conspired to keep his income hidden from U.S. tax authorities and law enforcement,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “Today’s guilty plea demonstrates the Department’s steadfast commitment to prosecute taxpayers who use offshore structures to obscure their wealth and evade their tax obligations.”

 

“Harald Joachim von der Goltz went to extraordinary lengths to circumvent U.S. tax laws in order to maintain his wealth and hide it from the IRS,” said U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman of the Southern District of New York. “Using the specialized criminal services of global law firm Mossack Fonseca, von der Goltz set up shell companies and off-shore accounts to conceal millions of dollars. Now, after years of concealment from the United States, von der Goltz has admitted guilt in a U.S. court and awaits sentencing that could result in a term in a U.S. prison.”

 

According to the allegations contained in the indictments, other filings in this case and statements during court proceedings, including von der Goltz’s guilty plea hearing, since at least 2000 through 2017, von der Goltz conspired with others to conceal his assets and investments, and the income generated by those assets and investments, from the IRS through fraudulent, deceitful and dishonest means.

 

During all relevant times, von der Goltz was a U.S. resident and was subject to U.S. tax laws, which required him to report and pay income tax on worldwide income, including income and capital gains generated in domestic and foreign bank accounts. Nevertheless, von der Goltz evaded his tax reporting obligations by setting up a series of shell companies and bank accounts, and hiding his beneficial ownership of the shell companies and bank accounts from the IRS. These shell companies and bank accounts made investments totaling tens of millions of dollars. Von der Goltz was assisted in this scheme through the use of Mossack Fonseca, including Ramses Owens, a Panamanian lawyer who previously worked at the Mossack Fonseca law firm, and by Richard Gaffey, a partner at a U.S.-based accounting firm.

 

In furtherance of von der Goltz’s efforts to conceal his assets and income from the IRS, von der Goltz engaged the services of Mossack Fonseca, including Owens, to create a sham foundation and shell companies formed under the laws of Panama and the British Virgin Islands to conceal from the IRS and others the ownership by von der Goltz of accounts established at overseas banks, as well as the income generated in those accounts. von der Goltz, Gaffey and Owens also falsely claimed that von der Goltz’s elderly mother was the sole beneficial owner of the shell companies and bank accounts at issue because, at all relevant times, she was a Guatemalan citizen and resident, and — unlike von der Goltz — was not a U.S. taxpayer.

 

Von der Goltz is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman on February 24, 2020.

Hector Alejandro Cabrera Fuentes, a Mexican citizen residing in Singapore, was arrested based on a Complaint charging him with acting within the United States on behalf of a foreign government (Russia), without notifying the Attorney General, and conspiracy to do the same.

 

John C. Demers, Assistant Attorney General for National Security; Ariana Fajardo Orshan, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida; George Piro, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Miami Field Office; and Diane J. Sabatino, Director of Field Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Miami Field Office, made the announcement.

 

According to court documents, a Russian government official recruited Fuentes in 2019 and directed Fuentes to rent a specific property in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The Russian official told Fuentes not to rent the apartment in Fuentes’s own name and not to tell his family about their meetings. Fuentes traveled to Russia and informed the Russian government official about the arrangements. The official approved and told Fuentes to see him again on his next trip to Russia.

 

In February 2020, Fuentes traveled to Moscow again and met with the Russian government official. At this meeting, the Russian government official provided Fuentes with a physical description of a U.S. Government source’s vehicle and told Fuentes to locate the car, obtain the source’s vehicle license plate number, and note the physical location of the source’s vehicle. The Russian official instructed Fuentes to meet the Russian official again in April or May 2020, to inform him of the results of the search for the source’s vehicle.

 

Furthermore, according to court documents, Fuentes traveled to Miami on Feb. 13, 2020, from Mexico City. The next day, on February 14, Fuentes’s rental car drew the attention of a security guard where the U.S. government source resided because it entered its premises by tailgating another vehicle to gain access. When a security guard approached Fuentes’s rental car, Fuentes’s travel companion, who resides and is legally married to Fuentes in Mexico, walked away from Fuentes’s rental car to the U.S. Government source’s vehicle and took a photograph of the source’s vehicle’s license plate. When security questioned Fuentes and his travel companion on the nature of their business in the building, Fuentes provided a name of an individual whom they were purportedly visiting. Security did not recognize the person as living there and told Fuentes to leave the premises.

 

On the evening of February 16, 2020, Fuentes and his travel companion arrived at Miami International Airport to leave to United States, on their way to Mexico City. U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspected the phone of Fuentes’s travel companion and found a close-up image of the license plate of the U.S. Government source’s vehicle in the “recently deleted folder” of her phone. When asked about the photo, Fuentes admitted tasking his travel companion to take the photo of the vehicle’s license plate. CBP’s review of Fuentes’s phone revealed a WhatsApp message from his travel companion sent to Fuentes with the same photograph of the vehicle license plate. Fuentes admitted to law enforcement officers that he was directed by a Russian government official to conduct this operation. According to court documents, messages on Fuentes’s phone showed that the Russian official initiated and directed the meetings.

 

A pretrial detention hearing is set for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020. Fuentes’s arraignment is set for 10:00 a.m. on March 3, 2020. Both hearings will occur in U.S. magistrate court in Miami, Florida.

Over this weekend, the Munich Security Conference took place, and saw a lot of comments by high profile officials from around the world. The event also led to some chances for officials to meet, including a very unusual meeting.

In a story first broken by the Federalist, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) led a delegation, which also included Sens. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Chris Van Hollum (D-MD), as well as former Secretary of State John Kerry, to hold a secretive meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.

The US State Department denied knowledge of any such meeting, though Murphy confirmed it, saying he believes the US must talk to its enemies. This is still a huge deal, not the least of which because it puts current opposition senators who are at odds with President Trump on the situation in Iran in a room with Iran’s top diplomat.

This is almost certain to be used by the Trump Administration to accuse the Democrats of trying to undercut his foreign policy with secret meetings, and this is likely to happen whether or not the meeting actually happened. Trump was already accusing Kerry of regular meetings of this sort, suggesting it was illegal.

There remains much that’s still unknown about this meeting, most importantly what they talked about. No hints were given in the Federalist report, which instead tried to draw similarities between the meeting and pre-inauguration Trump Administration meetings with Russia. Murphy did not go into detail in early reports, and the administration similarly did not offer any indication they knew anything beyond that a meeting had taken place.

Most early coverage of the report used it to try to portray Sen. Murphy negatively. The Union Journal was quick to present this secret meeting as involving “Pro-Iranian Regime US Senator” Murphy, even while Murphy is presenting Iran as an adversary.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was deeply critical of the meeting, saying it might undercut US policies and sanctions against Iran and Zarif.

What I was saying simply is that by exgineering the medium of space, the medium on which the game of matter and energy is played, the rules change, and that by creating different types of aetheric flux of sufficient density you can make modified space, and not just one or two different types, but many many types, let's say hundreds or thousands or millions.

‘The Crown’ Spotlights Soviet Spy Who Was Queen Elizabeth’s Surveyor of Art

 

The third season of Netflix’s The Crown, which traces the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II from the years 1964 to 1977, premiered last night with a look at the salacious past of the monarch’s former art surveyor, Anthony Blunt. Veteran English actor Samuel West plays the part.

 

Blunt, a British art historian, is believed to have been recruited by Soviet spies while he was studying at Cambridge University in the 1930s. The KGB agent went undetected for years, and was appointed the art surveyor at Buckingham Palace in 1945 by Queen Elizabeth’s father, George VI. He was charged with overseeing the royal family’s collection of works by Rembrandt, Monet, Artemisia Gentileschi, Leonardo da Vinci, and numerous other figures.

 

Blunt, whose secret dealings the episode also touches on, served as director of the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, and he published a number of important texts, including a monograph of painter Nicolas Poussin and the book Art and Architecture in France, 1500–1700.

 

In 1964, the year that episode one kicks off, Blunt was discovered by MI5 intelligence officer Arthur Martin, though the art surveyor was given immunity in exchange for a full confession. So as to protect the British intelligence community from humiliation and criticism, Blunt was allowed to maintain his position at Buckingham Palace for 15 more years, until Margaret Thatcher divulged his political treachery to Parliament in 1979. He was subsequently stripped of his knighthood by the Queen. (In The Crown, Blunt concludes a lecture on Carracci’s 1585 painting Allegory of Truth and Time when MI5 shows up to interrogate him.)

 

He said at the time that he felt he’d “made an appalling mistake,” and explained that he was initially drawn to work for the Soviet Union as a way to “serve the cause of anti-fascism.” Blunt added, “This was a case of political conscience against loyalty to country. I chose conscience.” He died in 1983.

Interesting, so i tried just putting the tiny circle with the dot above, I intuitively got what it does…

 

I can feel the enhancement in the left circle.

 

Basically a small circle will have a high rate of rotation (due to centrifugal forces which polarize the left and right handed energies) and the dots, though it eats energy, it sucks energy down from above. This helps enhance the energy in the circle below.

Switzerland halts rollout of 5G over health concerns

 

The country’s environment agency has called time on the use of all new towers

 

Switzerland, one of the world’s leaders in the rollout of 5G mobile technology, has placed an indefinite moratorium on the use of its new network because of health concerns.

 

The move comes as countries elsewhere around Europe race to upgrade their networks to 5G standards amid a furious rearguard diplomatic campaign by the US to stop them using Chinese technology provided by Huawei. Washington says the company, which is fundamental to most European networks’ upgrade plans, presents a grave security risk.

 

Switzerland is relatively advanced in Europe in adopting 5G. The wealthy alpine country has built more than 2,000 antennas to upgrade its network in the last year alone, and its telecoms providers have been promising their customers’ imminent 5G coverage for most of the past year.

 

However, a letter sent by the Swiss environment agency, Bafu, to the country’s cantonal governments at the end of January, has now in effect called time on the use of all new 5G towers, officials who have seen the letter told the Financial Times.

 

The agency is responsible for providing the cantons with safety criteria against which telecoms operators’ radiation emissions can be judged. Under Switzerland’s highly federalised structure, telecoms infrastructure is monitored for compliance and licensed by cantonal authorities, but Bern is responsible for setting the framework.

 

Bafu has said it cannot yet provide universal criteria without further testing of the impact of 5G radiation.

 

The agency said it was “not aware of any standard worldwide” that could be used to benchmark recommendations. “Therefore Bafu will examine exposure through adaptive [5G] antennas in depth, if possible in real-world operational conditions. This work will take some time,” it said.

 

Without the criteria, cantons are left with little option but to license 5G infrastructure according to existing guidelines on radiation exposure, which all but preclude the use of 5G except in a tiny minority of cases.

 

Several cantons have already imposed their own voluntary moratoria because of uncertainty over health risks.

 

Swisscom said that Bafu’s assessment process would not halt its ongoing work to build out 5G infrastructure, even if it meant that it would not be able to be used at full capacity. The operator said it could still achieve high speeds for customers of up to 2Gb/s without the full use of new masts.

 

Swiss law on the effects of radiation from telecoms masts is broadly in line with that of European peers, but specifies the application of more stringent precautionary measures in certain cases. New 5G communications technology means individuals are exposed to more concentrated beams of non-ionising radiation, but for shorter periods. Bafu must determine which legal standards to apply to this.

 

Swisscom, the country’s largest mobile operator, said it understood “the fears that are often expressed about new technologies”.

 

“There is no evidence that antenna radiation within the limit values adversely affects human health,” the company added, pointing out that 5G is run on frequencies similar to the current 4G standard, which has been subject to “several thousand studies.”

 

The company said Switzerland’s regulatory limits were “10 times stricter than those recommended by the World Health Organization in places where people stay for longer periods of time”.

 

Switzerland already has a notable anti-5G lobby, with recent protests against its rollout in Bern, Zurich and Geneva.

 

The Swiss Medical Association has advised caution on 5G, arguing that the most stringent legal principles should be applied because of unanswered questions about the technology’s potential to cause damage to the nervous system, or even cancers.

 

Five “popular initiatives” — proposals for legally binding referendums on 5G use — are already in motion in Switzerland. Two have already been formalised and are in the process of collecting the 100,000 signatures needed to trigger nationwide votes that if successful will amend Switzerland’s constitution.

 

One will make telecoms companies legally liable for claims of bodily damage caused by radiation from masts unless they can prove otherwise. The other proposes strict and stringent limits on radiation emissions from masts and will give local residents veto power over all new constructions in their area.

According to the indictment, the defendants, together with others, paid bribes to officials in Indonesia – including, among others, a high-ranking member of the Indonesian Parliament and the president of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), the state-owned and state-controlled electricity company in Indonesia – in exchange for assistance in securing a $118 million contract, known as the Tarahan project, for Alstom’s subsidiaries in Connecticut and Indonesia and for Marubeni to provide power-related services for the citizens of Indonesia. To conceal the bribes, the defendants allegedly retained two so-called “consultants” purportedly to provide legitimate consulting services on behalf of the power company and its subsidiaries in connection with the Tarahan project. The indictment, however, alleges that the primary purpose for hiring the consultants was to use the consultants to pay bribes to Indonesian officials.

 

The first consultant retained by the defendants allegedly received hundreds of thousands of dollars in his Maryland bank account to be used to bribe the member of Parliament. The consultant then allegedly transferred the bribe money to a bank account in Indonesia for the benefit of the official. According to court documents, emails between the defendants and their co-conspirators discussed in detail the use of the first consultant to funnel bribes to the member of Parliament and the influence that the member of Parliament could exert over the Tarahan project.

 

The superseding indictment alleges that in the fall of 2003, the defendants and their co-conspirators determined that the first consultant was not effectively bribing key officials at PLN. One email between Moenaf, Sulianto and their co-conspirators described PLN officials’ “concern that if we have won the job, whether their rewards will still be satisfactory or this agent only give them pocket money and disappear.” In another email, Moenaf asserted that the consultant “has no grip on the PLN Tender team at all” and “is more or less similar to [a] cashier which I feel we pay too much.” As a result, the co-conspirators allegedly retained a second consultant to more effectively bribe PLN officials. The defendants and their co-conspirators were successful in securing the Tarahan project and subsequently made payments to the consultants for the alleged purpose of bribing the Indonesian officials, the indictment alleges.

 

An indictment is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

 

The charges against Moenaf, Sulianto, and Kusunoki are part of a wide-ranging investigation into alleged corrupt practices by employees of Alstom and Marubeni. Five other individuals, as well as Alstom and Marubeni, have pleaded guilty in the case so far, and Lawrence Hoskins, a former senior vice president at Alstom, was found guilty on Nov. 6, 2019, following a jury trial, of 11 counts of conspiracy, violating the FCPA, and money laundering.

John Rood, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy at the Pentagon, lost support among senior national security leadership and has been asked for his resignation, one of the sources said.

 

Rood is the Pentagon's top policy official and oversees aspects of the Pentagon's relationship with US allies and partners. Rood was involved in certifying to Congress that Ukraine had embarked on significant reforms to justify its receipt of $250 million in security assistance. That certification undermined one of the justifications – concerns about corruption in Kiev – that some members of the Trump administration made to defend blocking aid to Ukraine.

 

Hours after Trump's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which kicked off impeachment proceedings, Rood emailed Secretary of Defense Mark Esper – who had been in the job two days – informing him about an upcoming deputies meeting, "to discuss the President's concern about endemic corruption in Ukraine and his reported view that US should cease providing security assistance," according to emails reviewed by CNN.

Rood notes in his email to the secretary that "placing a hold on security assistance at this time would jeopardize this unique window of opportunity and undermine our defense priorities with a key partner in the strategic competition with Russia."

The Pentagon declined to comment on the expected departure.

Moreover, I personally witnessed the Starlink satellites pass over twice. The first time they were all still grouped together. Happened early in the morning. The second time my neighbor calls me up and says, "Go outside and look NorthWest". He was freaked out. It was about 9:45 at night. It was still a chain of almost 20 satellites, but they were spaced out more, but still all traveling single file, the same path.

 

They weren't scattered all over the sky, and they were glowing white, not orange. I will post a pic of the original launch (for comparison) in a second. I have never gotten pics and video to successfully load at the same time.

WASHINGTON — For years they have operated as news organizations in the United States, deploying scores of journalists to cover the major events of the day and to report back to their readers and viewers at home, even if the most important of those was the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

 

Now, the Trump administration has declared them not practitioners of journalism, but rather operatives of the Chinese state.

 

The State Department told China on Tuesday that its five foremost news agencies — Xinhua, CGTN, China Radio, China Daily and The People’s Daily — will officially be treated as foreign government functionaries, subject to similar rules as diplomats stationed in the United States. The new action was described on Tuesday afternoon by two senior State Department officials.

 

The decision — debated in Washington for years but never carried out, in part because of concerns over restricting the freedom of the press — comes at a time when the administration has moved aggressively on multiple fronts to fight what officials describe as extensive Chinese influence and intelligence operations in the United States.

 

In the past month alone, prosecutors have brought cases against Chinese intelligence operations involving scientific research at Harvard and the 2017 hacking of Equifax, one of the United States’ largest credit reporting agencies. They also charged Huawei, the telecommunications company, and two of its subsidiaries with federal racketeering and conspiracy to steal trade secrets.

 

The legal assault on Chinese entities has unfolded even as bilateral tensions have flared over China’s handling of the coronavirus epidemic, which prompted the evacuation of American diplomats and other citizens from Wuhan, the city in central China at the source of the outbreak. It is part of a concerted effort to put new pressure on China’s government barely a month after President Trump signed a temporary truce in the trade war he started.

Some of China’s critics in Washington have long called for action against the country’s state media. The senior State Department officials described the new restrictions as part of the Trump administration’s strategy to confront great power adversaries. The officials would not discuss whether Russian media working in the United States would face similar designations.

 

The State Department officials, who briefed reporters only on the condition of anonymity despite requests for public comment, said the new designation would not impede the five Chinese news agencies’ ability to report, broadcast or carry out other journalistic activity.

 

Instead, the officials said, it requires the five organizations to provide names, personal details and turnover of staff in the United States to the State Department. The news organizations would also need to report whether they own or lease property in the United States.

 

The officials would not comment on how the new registration requirements would be enforced. Nor would they predict what backlash foreign journalists in China might face as a result of the designations.

 

One State Department official cited an already tough working environment for journalists in China, where he said that “freedom of the press is under a severe siege.” He also described the five Chinese news organizations as “part and parcel of the P.R.C. propaganda apparatus,” using an abbreviation for the People’s Republic of China.

 

Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, echoed a suspicion held in national security circles that the decision could lead to retaliation against American journalists who work in China — especially those affiliated with the United States government, like Voice of America.

 

“China has long masked intelligence operations with journalistic credentials,” Mr. Turley said. “The danger is China could reciprocate against our journalists.”

 

He added, “The difference is our journalists in China are actually journalists.”

The two State Department officials and a third Trump administration official said the restrictions against the Chinese news employees — similar to those required by diplomats in the Chinese Embassy in Washington or in consulates around the United States — were extended because they were substantially owned and effectively controlled by China’s government.

 

The American government has already targeted some of the news agencies under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires anyone lobbying on behalf of foreign governments to submit regular reports on their activities to the Justice Department.

 

Partly in response to Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, the administration has forced parts of China’s official propaganda apparatus to register. They included CGTN, the English-language channel of China Central Television, Beijing’s main domestic network, which was forced to register beginning last year. One of the others, China Daily, has been registered as a foreign agent since 1983.

 

The new action treats the news organizations as part of China’s diplomatic missions whose activities are regulated under the Foreign Missions Act. Enacted in 1982, the law is a legal tool intended to ensure equitable treatment for American diplomats serving in countries around the world, often under onerous government restrictions. It deals with such things as providing visas, acquiring property and extending diplomatic immunity in matters of criminal wrongdoing.

 

Last fall, for example, the State Department began requiring Chinese diplomats to give notice before they have any meetings with local or state officials and with educational and research institutions. That move came in retaliation for similar Chinese government rules imposed on American diplomats. But the five Chinese news agencies whose employees are working in the United States will be exempted from that requirement, the State Department officials said.

 

American officials have become much more suspicious of the activities of Chinese diplomats and have increased scrutiny of their travels and meetings. In September, the State Department secretly expelled two Chinese Embassy officials in Washington after they were caught driving on a sensitive military base in Virginia with their wives. The expulsions appear to be the first of Chinese diplomats suspected of espionage in more than 30 years.

 

It was not clear why the Trump administration decided to act now on the Chinese news organizations, although the administration official said the move reflected long-simmering frustration over the forbearance shown to Chinese official media in the United States, despite evidence that the organizations serve as a front for intelligence agencies.

 

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, a congressionally mandated agency, warned in its report in 2017 that “Chinese intelligence-gathering and information-warfare efforts are known to involve staff of Chinese state-run media organizations.”

 

 

In recent years, a growing number of American officials have discussed imposing strict visa reciprocity on Chinese news organizations after Beijing increasingly began limiting visas and residence permits issued to foreign journalists and curtailed the lengths of those documents.

 

Unlike Russia’s information campaigns in the United States, which have been artfully tailored to sow distrust in the American government and the democratic system, China’s media efforts in the United States have tended to reflect more traditional forms of government propaganda. Reports on CGTN or in China Daily, for example, are more likely to extol the country’s economic and diplomatic achievements than to denigrate American democracy.

Xinhua, which is China’s main news agency and serves as a channel for most major announcements, maintains bureaus around the world, with its largest in Washington and New York. It is common practice for many of them to produce internal documents, intended for consumption not by the public but by high-ranking officials.

 

Some disagreed with the action. “I don’t see any evidence that they are doing anything nefarious that would warrant this response,” said Maria Repnikova, an assistant professor at Georgia State University and the author of “Media Politics in China: Improvising Power Under Authoritarianism.”

 

 

China Daily, the English-language version of one of the main state newspapers, regularly publishes advertising supplements in newspapers around the country, including The New York Times. They generally offer an informative, if anodyne, view of world affairs refracted through the lens of the Communist Party.

 

“The China Daily advertisement insert is clearly labeled and meets our advertising acceptability standards,” said Ari Isaacman Bevacqua, a Times spokeswoman. “The New York Times covers China thoroughly and aggressively, and at no time has advertising influenced our coverage.”

 

However, some experts on China say China Daily pushes insidious propaganda onto foreign readers, especially in its attempts to whitewash vast human rights abuses against Uighurs, Tibetans and other ethnic minorities.

 

Sophie Richardson, the China director for Human Rights Watch, has repeatedly denounced China Daily. The paper, she said on Twitter last year, was “nothing more than a mouthpiece for a government that conflates peaceful criticism with terrorism, crushes peaceful protests, and arbitrarily detains shocking numbers of #Uyghurs and other #Muslims.”

 

One issue in particular drew the attention of the White House in 2018. An advertisement placed in The Des Moines Register highlighted the benefits of free trade for Iowa’s farmers at a time Mr. Trump was excoriating what he called China’s unfair trade practices.
