DJT said in one of the press conferences that he wanted the federal government to handle distributing the CV stimulus funds to Americans, but the Dems required the money to go to the states first, so the states will be in charge of it.

Wonder how much siphoning, lying, and delaying there is going to be at the state level, to line their pockets and to make Trump look like he is mishandling this crisis. Think of all the bottled water and supplies that were sent to the Dominican after a hurricane, and the leaders hid it in warehouses then went on national news saying Trump didn't send them any help. And now Trump is implying that some places have lots of medical supplies for CV, but are acting like they don't.

 

Speak up about any problems that you experience with state programs and offices. Maybe the WH should have a webpage for people to report problems.

This week I applied for unemployment on my state's website, and it said I must call their office for my application to be processed. But for three days in a row, the phone number only rang to a recorded message saying "All agents busy, call back later." And today, the number only rings to a message saying "We are having system problems and cannot process calls." Hopefully it's only a temporary issue, and is not intentional to prevent people from qualifying.

Amazon Bans Sale Of N95 And Surgical Masks To General Public

 

Amazon has banned the sale of N95 and surgical masks to the general public, claiming it would restrict sales to hospitals and government organizations dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The ban took effect April 1, according to Recode, after the company said in a forum for Amazon sellers that the ban includes "facial shields, surgical gowns, surgical gloves, and large-volume sanitizers."

 

Hospitals and governments can qualify to purchase said items by filling out a form, while Amazon will be eliminating the commission it usually charges sellers in order "to encourage our selling partners to make additional inventory of these products available at competitive prices to these customers with the greatest need."

Weill needed the Glass-Steagall legislation to vanish so that he could merge his hodgepodge of Wall Street trading firms (Salomon Brothers and Smith Barney, et al) with a federally-insured bank full of deposits. On May 9, 2011 Citigroup did a 1 for 10 reverse stock split, meaning if you previously owned 100 shares of Citigroup, you now owned just 10 and the price was adjusted upward accordingly. At yesterday’s closing price of $38.51 (actually $3.85 if adjusted for the reverse stock split), Citigroup’s long-term shareholders are still down 92 percent from where Weill bailed out of the stock in 2003.

US Coronavirus Patients Receiving Treatment Via Experimental Plasma Therapy

 

Doctors in New York City, New York; Houston, Texas; and Rochester, Minnesota, were quick to acknowledge the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) recent approval of plasma therapy for COVID-19 novel coronavirus patients and have begun their own trials in the past few days.

With most of Europe imposing extraordinary restrictions to slow the spread of coronavirus, Sweden has left its citizens surprisingly free. Are Swedes rolling the dice with their public health, or is everyone else overreacting?

 

As most of Europe clamps down in a bid to slow the spread of Covid-19, one country is bucking the trend. Sweden is taking a markedly more liberal approach to combating the virus. Despite its closest neighbours, Denmark and Norway, shutting down all but essential services, Swedes remain free to socialise as the harsh Scandinavian winter comes to an end. Although universities and high schools have shut, pre-schools, kindergartens, bars, restaurants, ski resorts, sports clubs and hairdressers have all remained open.

 

The streets of Stockholm and Malmo are noticeably quieter than usual, but positively bustling compared to those of Copenhagen, Oslo, London, Paris and Rome. Standing in bars is banned but as long as punters can find a seat they’re free to enjoy a night out. Other steps taken include gatherings of more than 50 people being banned and the over 70s being urged to self-isolate.

 

With the exception of Belarus, which hasn’t even suspended its football league, Sweden’s restrictions amount to the most relaxed out there. This has prompted observers both in and outside the country to wonder if they are playing fast and loose with the nation’s health or taking the most proportionate response in the West. Prime minister Stefan Lofven has warned that times ahead would be tough but also put the onus on individual Swedes. He added: β€œWe all, as individuals, have to take responsibility. We can’t legislate and ban everything.”

 

This tactic is at odds with the strategy in the UK which has been to tell citizens to stay at home and limit leaving the house to once a day. Sweden’s experts have taken a very different view to the UK’s, with their state epidemiologist, Anders Tengell, saying the Imperial College London modelling, predicting 250,000 deaths and informing Boris Johnson’s strategy, is β€œpessimistic”. A lawyer for retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said her client was prepared to "audit" the U.S. intelligence community as White House national security adviser.

 

And that, according to former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell, is partly why federal agents "set up" Flynn.

 

Flynn, 61, is fighting to dismiss the government's case against him. He pleaded guilty in December 2017 for lying to investigators about his conversations with Russian diplomat Sergey Kislyak on sanctions on Russia and a United Nations resolution on Israel, but in January, he told the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., that he was "innocent of this crime."

 

Powell, who took over Flynn's defense last summer, told the Vicki McKenna Show on 1310 WIBA Madison on Tuesday that her client was "totally set up" because he threatened to expose wrongdoing by top intelligence officials in the Obama administration.

 

"He was going to audit the intel agencies because he knew about the billions Brennan and company were running off books," Powell said, referring to former CIA Director John Brennan.

 

Powell offered no evidence during the interview to support the claim, but her comments echo the findings of investigative journalist Lee Smith, the author of The Plot Against the President.

 

During a November interview on Maria Bartiromo's Insiders on Fox Nation along with Powell, Smith said Flynn was scrutinizing possible misconduct by the U.S. intelligence community.

 

"In addition to Gen. Flynn's name being cleared, I hope that his initiative to get to the bottom of what these people were doing β€” to audit the intelligence community … that's something else we need to look at again," Smith said. "As well, his initiative to clean out the deep state."

 

They also discussed Stefan Halper, an academic who was given high-dollar Pentagon contracts to study Russia and China. Halper is also reported to be an FBI informant who had conversations with Trump campaign aides and is under scrutiny by U.S. Attorney John Durham's review of the Russia investigation.

 

"There's no telling how many billions of taxpayer dollars they're running off books for the different intel agencies … and, of course, we see evidence of that … with what was paid to Stefan Halper for his shenanigans. It just goes on and on," Powell alleged at the time.

 

Flynn was picked by former President Barack Obama to serve as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2012, but he was pushed out of the position after clashing with Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and others. He retired from the Army in 2014, a year before his stint was supposed to end.

 

β€œI was fired as the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency after telling a congressional committee that we were not as safe as we had been a few years back,” Flynn wrote in his 2016 book, The Field of Fight: How We Can Win the Global War Against Radical Islam and Its Allies.

 

The future Trump national security adviser was openly critical of the intelligence community prior to joining Trump’s campaign as a foreign policy adviser in February 2016.

 

β€œThey’ve lost sight of who they actually work for,” Flynn said of the CIA to the New York Times in October 2015. β€œThey work for the American people. They don’t work for the president of the United States … It’s become a very political organization.”

Saudi Arabia launches mechanism to fight human trafficking

Kingdom forms partnership with global bodies to tackle problem

 

Saudi Arabia has launched its first mechanism to deal with human trafficking, providing government departments, law enforcement and civil society advice on how to deal with the issue.

 

The National Trafficking in Persons Referral Mechanism (NRM) was created in partnership with in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Organisation of Migration to define the roles and responsibilities of different state agencies.

 

β€œHuman trafficking is an affront to the dignity of all humanity,” said Dr Awwad Alawwad, chair of Saudi Arabia’s National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.

 

β€œIt is our duty to eradicate this heinous practice and I am proud to report that the launch of the National Referral Mechanism is a major step to that end."

 

In 2015, the government launched a national human rights strategy bringing together government and non-government bodies to pass laws to meet UN resolutions and international treaty obligations on human right, following its ascension to the UN Human Rights Council in January 2014.

 

The NRM is the latest in a range of measures taken by the kingdom on trafficking as part of a three-year national action plan launched in 2017. As well as legal reform, the kingdom has donated to charities dedicated to migrants rights and reducing trafficking and ran awareness campaigns and training programmes for people who may come into contact with trafficked people to recognise signs and act appropriately.

 

It also set up a phone line operating in nine languages for people to report issues relating to trafficking. In 2018, the call centre received approximately 1.3 million "general enquiries and requests, labour disputes, employment complaints, and tips", the US State Department reported.

 

In 2018, the Human Rights Council recommended Saudi Arabia "adopt adequate mechanisms for the early identification and referral of victims of trafficking."

 

A copy of the new mechanism shown to The National meets the UN recommendations with a six-step process: identifying victims, saving and sheltering them, investigating and prosecuting culprits, protecting and assisting victims, voluntary repatriation and social reintegration.

But it suggested that the kingdom should develop a referral system to better protect victims and increase investigations into human trafficking.

 

There was no official comment from the US on Saudi’s latest announcements or whether it would address these concerns.

 

Saudi Arabia has made a raft of reforms over the last few years as part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 to modernise the country and accelerate economic development.

 

Human rights reforms included lifting the ban on women driving in June 2017, and 2019 changes to labour laws to outlaw discrimination on the basis of sex, disability, or age.

 

Dr Awwad also promised further human rights reforms to β€œimprove the quality of life of all citizens and residents of the Kingdom".

Sex trafficking poses the risk of spreading COVID-19 to thousands of people

Victims have no protection against the virus, nor do their clients.

As a former prosecutor of sex traffickers, I know that the 79,000 victims in Texas born and raised in America are not protected against COVID-19, nor are their clients. This unchecked potential spread of the virus will be curbed by prosecution of sex traffickers, a far more difficult case to prove than simple prostitution.

 

Sex traffickers snag some 200,000 young people born and raised in the U.S. A good percentage are in Texas. Yet across all 18,000 U.S. cities with police departments, only 800 human trafficking cases are initiated each year, according to the 2019 State Department U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report.

 

Traffickers lure vulnerable youth at bus stops, outside schoolyards, sleeping in parks and even within foster homes. The traffickers offer companionship, food and a promise of stability. They addict kids to drugs and alcohol to keep them captive. They promise impoverished young women legitimate work, and then shame them with rape and hold them in abusive relationships.

 

I prosecuted nine male traffickers. Each made an average of $11,000 a month off the backs of their victims. The men I successfully prosecuted had forced a total of 34 young men and women into prostitution. The youths were 11 to 15 years old when first trafficked. Many died from drug overdoses before they were 30.

 

Few prosecutions of sex traffickers occur because traffickers jump state lines and there is no national human trafficking database. Most police departments lack the inter-state data that can identify a trafficking case versus the lesser crime of promoting prostitution in one’s own city. During my tenure as a prosecutor in Philadelphia, we brought charges against hundreds of sex buyers, and only a dozen cases against traffickers, leaving thousands of our nation’s children exploited, and sex traffickers free to set up business in adjoining states.

 

Sadly, there is little oversight of victims even if they reach out for help. Last year the federal National Human Trafficking Hotline logged 14,000 calls from victims. Many callers were referred to agencies that potentially could help, but we have no data that confirms they did. The hotline has no follow-through component, no feedback loop that makes sure a social worker checks on the caller after a referral, and no check-ins with agencies to see if the caller was indeed served.

 

Many referral agencies are overwhelmed and understaffed. Was their line busy when the victim called? Was a bed available for the caller, or for more than one paid night in a hotel as a transitional escape? Did the caller leave a name? Few callers have a home address or a phone that isn’t monitored by the trafficker.

 

Here’s what we should do with more funding proposed, but not yet delivered by the Trump administration:

 

Β· Add feedback loops to the national hotline that checks on whether a referral resulted in help. Circle back to the caller, if possible, to see what more is needed to escape the trafficker. It takes courage to make the call, and often at great risk.

 

Β· Enable collaborative data among police departments that can help prosecutors convict traffickers that work across state lines. I share my prosecutorial experience with 204 city police departments across 37 U.S. states. Sharing data in a national databank needs to be part of a federally funded effort.

 

Β· Allocate resources to keep impoverished young women and men from succumbing to traffickers by providing more safe housing for runaways. If we can quickly build extra testing and hospitals for a virus threat, surely we can build more safe housing for victims of sex traffickers seeking escape.

 

Β· Encourage far better oversight of foster homes. Traffickers sometimes place their young victims in a foster home to recruit other kids in the house, so it’s important to have trained social workers interview placements.

 

Β· Fund more social workers charged with protecting impoverished or homeless youth so kids sleeping in parks can be spared the trauma of trafficking in order to eat.

 

We need to understand that with quick contagion of COVID-19, a sex trafficker creates a conduit to infecting thousands of Americans. With more citizens experiencing the fall-out of the virus β€” less paid work and more housing instability β€” the risk for exploitation increases. We need to put federal funds to better use to stop and lock up more traffickers.

Luckin Coffee's stock is down more than 70% on this news.

The preliminary stage of the investigation has revealed, so far, "certain misconduct, including fabricating certain transactions" to the tune of around RMB 2.2 billion in sales, or north of $300 million, between the second and fourth quarters of 2019. None of these numbers have yet been verified by auditors or the Special Committee, but clearly the company is panicked about the volume of deceit. Luckin is investigating the final impact on its reported financials, but the news will not be good.

But critics contend Cuomo also needs to look closer to home. "Although the public is only now becoming aware of the problem, emergency room shortages have long plagued the state's healthcare system. In addition, New York bypassed an opportunity five years ago to purchase 16,000 ventilators at a total cost of under $600 million," Joel Griffith, a research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, told Fox News. "This sum represented just 0.4 percent of the 2015-2016 enacted budgetvcβ€” a year in which more than $2.3 billion was set aside for 'economic development,' an amorphous category riddled with cronyism. This potential shortage was both avoidable and warned about," he said.

 

The governor, who has held the top job since 2011, has said that the state needs at least 30,000 ventilators – and an extra 50,000 hospital beds – to brace for the pinnacle of the storm in the coming weeks. While Everyone Was Distracted By Covid-19, Final Report By UAF Concluded WTC 7 β€˜NOT Destroyed by Fires’

 

The final report of a rigorous four-year computer modeling simulation that was followed by a robust peer review process has concluded that World Trade Center Building 7 could NOT have collapsed as a result of office fires, as the β€œofficial” explanation dubiously claims.

 

According to the highly anticipated final report issued last week by researchers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the official narrative surrounding the collapse of WTC 7 is simply implausible.

 

The UAF team’s findings, which were the result of a four-year computer modeling study of the building’s collapse, directly contradict those of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which concluded in a 2008 report that WTC 7 was the first tall building in the history of the world to collapse primarily due to fire.

 

β€œOur study found that the fires in WTC 7 could not have caused the observed collapse,” said Professor Leroy Hulsey, the study’s principal investigator.

 

β€œThe only way it could have fallen in the observed manner is by the near-simultaneous failure of every column.”

 

The four-year study was funded by Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a nonprofit organization representing more than 3,000 architects and engineers who have signed the organization’s petition calling for a new investigation into the destruction of the three World Trade Center towers on 9/11.

The peer review included dozens of public comments as well as external review by two independent experts, Dr. Gregory Szuladzinski of Analytical Service Company, a leading expert in structural mechanics and finite element modeling, and Dr. Robert Korol, a professor emeritus of civil engineering at McMaster University and a fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee will sign Executive Order 23 requiring that Tennesseans stay home unless they are carrying out essential activities as data shows an increase in citizen movement across the state.

 

β€œOver the last few weeks, we have seen decreases in movement around the state as Tennesseans socially distance and stay at home,” said Gov. Lee. β€œHowever, in recent days we have seen data indicating that movement may be increasing and we must get these numbers trending back down. I have updated my previous executive order to clearly require that Tennesseans stay at home unless they are carrying out essential activities.”

 

Data from the Tennessee Department of Transportation analyzed traffic patterns for March 2020. While safer at home measures and further restrictions on businesses showed a steep drop-off in vehicle movement from March 13-29, data beginning on March 30 indicates travel is trending upwards, again.

 

The Administration also analyzed data from Unacast to understand cell phone mobility and determine movement trends among people. Unacast indicates the movement of Tennesseans is trending toward pre-COVID-19 levels.
