Steven Schmidt, Commander of the NCARNG 295th Signal Company and Cyber Security Response Force (CSRF), like North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) citizen soldiers for more than 350 years, joined six other North Carolina National Guard Soldiers of the CSRF deployed in Shelby’s defense not on the village green, hills or forests, but in cyberspace.

Federal, state and local leaders learned of the attack and decided to bring the CSRF to the fight. By conference call, those leaders and Schmidt learned from city representatives the exact problem and what local leaders needed help with first. By the time the call was over Schmidt, who lived nearby, was on site

“It is a lot of planning, bringing chaos under control,” Schmidtt said.

Schmidt, a veteran of multiple cyber missions this year alone, carefully selected his team of young cyber professionals, a mix of full time NCNG Soldiers and Airmen and traditional drilling members, who have a civilian career and also serve when needed.

“I look for what talent we have across the state and bring to the table to solve the problem,” Schmidt said.

They stationed out of Shelby’s city hall to defend the city’s computer network, analyze and identify the attack, help recover lost, stolen or compromised data. The data and integrity of the network is vital for the city to provide critical services to its citizens.

“They (Shelby government) were very welcoming and have great leaders and staff,” said Schmidt.

The team swarmed over computer hardware stations on site checking each for any physical vulnerability that might be exploited. Other members logged online searching for the access point used to attack the systems from cyberspace. After a week of operations all of the city’s systems were back serving their citizens.

“Each incident is unique, it is very fluid,” said Schmidt.

NCNG Soldiers and Airmen for years have engaged in cyber operations blending military training and civilian acquired skills in support of local, state and national partners in the cyber domain. There are over 300 NCNG Army and Air service members with unique cyber skills available for state duty.

The families of four U.S. Marines who died in a 2018 CH-53E Super Stallion heavy-lift helicopter accident have filed a lawsuit March 31 alleging that two companies were responsible for the faulty aircraft component that caused the fatal crash.

The Marines killed in the April 3, 2018, crash were Capt. Samuel A. Schultz; 1st Lt. Samuel D. Philips; Gunnery Sgt. Richard D. Holley; and Lance Cpl. Taylor J. Conrad. All were assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 465 out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California.

The huge helicopter took off from the Strategic Expeditionary Landing Field at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, California, to conduct squadron training, consisting of aircraft landings in "unimproved zones," before it crashed and "burst into flames" near the U.S.-Mexico border just outside of El Centro, according to the lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania State Court.

The lawsuit against Kampi Components Co. Inc. of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, and Diamond Rubber Products Co. of Birmingham, Alabama, alleges that the companies were responsible for manufacturing and supplying a defective valve part that triggered the tragic accident.

The failed component, known as a bypass valve button, was made from ethylene propylene di monomer (EPDM), a rubber material that is incompatible with hydraulic fluid, the lawsuit alleges.

"The failure of this component part caused what is known as a 'hydraulic lock' condition, resulting in a loss of flight control of the subject helicopter," the lawsuit states. "When this condition occurs, the pilots can do nothing to bring the subject helicopter back under control and are blameless in this crash."

Post-crash investigation and analysis further revealed that, following the discovery of the non-conforming EPDM part, "all batches of the non-conforming buttons were analyzed in an attempt to find the non-compliant supplier and/or manufacturer and through those efforts the source of the non-compliant 'button' was identified as being sold and supplied by Defendant KAMPI and manufactured of Defendant DIAMOND," the lawsuit alleges, referring to Kampi Components and Diamond Rubber Products.

Attorney David Casey Jr., who is representing the families in the lawsuit, said in a recent news release, "There was nothing the pilots could have done to prevent this deadly accident."

This morning 4-6 hours ago, Fox had a doctor on TV that mentioned feeling a sensation at the moment when CV hits you. It was described as a burning like sensation (paraphrasing), I thought it was interesting.

I think there are too many coincidences to 5g for it not to be factored in, if not 5g just wireless(WiFi or 4G) in general. I'm guessing there is a tremendous amount of wireless RF radiation in nursing homes as well (also hospitals). De Telegraaf reports (via Reuters) that attackers committed arson or sabotage against several cell towers in the Netherlands, four of them just in the past week. The incidents were likely fuelled by anti-5G panic, with at least one perpetrator spraying a slogan opposing the new wireless tech. Under a long-term deal sealed by the Obama administration, a Chinese Communist company was set to control the second-busiest container port in the United States. In an unreported Trump administration victory, the Communists are out after a drawn-out national security review forced a unit of China-based COSCO Shipping Holdings Co. (Orient Overseas Container Line—OOCL) to sell the cherished container terminal business, which handles among the largest freight of imports into the U.S.

It all started with a 40-year container terminal lease between the Port of Long Beach in southern California and Hong Kong. The Obama administration proudly signed the agreement in 2012 giving China control of America’s second-largest container port behind the nearby Port of Los Angeles. One of the Trump administration’s first big moves was to get the Communists out of the Port of Long Beach. After a national security review and federal intervention, the Long Beach terminal business, which handles millions of containers annually, is finally being sold to an Australian company called Macquarie Infrastructure Partners. That essentially kills China’s decades-long contract with the Obama administration.

The deal never should have been signed in the first place considering the facility’s size, significance and the national security issues associated with a hostile foreign government controlling it. The southern California port is the premier U.S. gateway for trans-Pacific trade, according to its website, and handles trade valued at more than $194 billion annually. It is one of the few ports that can accommodate the world’s largest vessels and serves 140 shipping lines with connections to 217 seaports around the world. The facility encompasses 3,200 acres with 31 miles of waterfront, 10 piers, 62 berths and 68 post-Panamax gantry cranes. In 2018, the Long Beach port handled more than 8 million container units, achieving the busiest year in its history.

Removing Chinese Communists from this essential port is a tremendous feat and a huge victory for U.S. national security. You’d never know it because the media, consumed with the impeachment debacle, has ignored this important achievement. The only coverage of the finalized transfer is found in Long Beach’s local newspaper, which published a brief article omitting important background information on the Trump administration’s work to take back the terminal from the Communists. The story makes it seem like a regular business transaction in which “a Chinese state-owned company, reached a deal to sell the terminal, one of the busiest in the port, for $1.78 billion.” The piece also quotes the Port of Long Beach’s deputy executive director saying that the transaction process was intricate and involved one of “our most valuable port assets.” Buried at the bottom of the article is a sentence mentioning that the U.S. government, which regulates mergers for antitrust and security reasons, stepped in and required COSCO to sell its rights to the container terminal.

In the last few years China has bought cargo ports throughout the world, including in Latin America, the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Chinese-owned ports are located in Greece, Italy, Spain and other European locations. In sub-Saharan Africa there are dozens of existing or planned port projects funded or operated by China, according to a study that highlights the threat the Chinese investments present to U.S. influence in the region. One troubling analysis points out that “COSCO’s commercial expansion has created leverage for Beijing — leverage that has already resulted in countries that host COSCO ports adopting China’s position on key international issues.”

Motor racing great Stirling Moss dies aged 90

Stirling Moss, a daring, speed-loving Englishman regarded as the greatest Formula One driver never to win the world championship, has died. He was 90.

Moss died peacefully at his London home following a long illness, his wife, Susan, said Sunday.

"It was one lap too many," she said. "He just closed his eyes."

A national treasure, affectionately known as "Mr. Motor Racing," he was fearless and fiercely competitive. The balding Moss' taste for adventure saw him push cars to their limits.

"If you're not trying to win at all costs," he said, "what on earth are you doing there?"

His often reckless attitude took a toll on his slight body. His career ended early, at age 31, after a horrific crash left him in a coma for a month in April 1962.

By then, Moss had won 16 of the 66 F1 races he entered and established a reputation as a technically excellent and versatile driver across many racing categories.

Arguably his greatest achievement was victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia – a 1,000-mile (1,600-kilometer) road race through Italy – by nearly half an hour over Juan Manuel Fangio, the Argentine great who was Moss' idol, teammate and rival.

An F1 title didn't follow, though – a travesty to many in motorsport. Moss finished second in the drivers' championship four times (1955-58) and third on three occasions.

In 1958, Moss lost out to Ferrari's Mike Hawthorn by one point despite winning four races to his rival's one. In 1959, Moss' car failed during the final race, in Florida, when leading and again in with a chance of the title.

"I hope I'll continue to be described as the greatest driver who never won the world championship, but it doesn't really matter," Moss once said. "The most important thing for me was gaining the respect of the other drivers and I think I achieved that."

The anticipated sale of the Long Beach Container Terminal has port approval at last.

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners this week unanimously finalized the transfer of the terminal from Orient Overseas International Line to Macquarie Infrastructure Partners.

OOIL, a Chinese state-owned company, reached a deal to sell the terminal, one of the busiest in the port, for $1.78 billion. The agreement was announced April 30.

Orient has owned the Long Beach Container Terminal for about 30 years, first at Pier F, and then at the Middle Harbor site. OOIL signed a 40-year, $4.6 billion lease for Middle Harbor in 2012; the automated terminal is currently 200 acres, but will soon expand to 300 acres.

Noel Hacegaba, deputy executive director of the Port of Long Beach, said the months-long transaction process was intricate and involved one of “our most valuable port assets.”

“We look forward to working with Macquarie Infrastructure Partners in the decades to come,” Hacegaba said.

The facility sees about 2.7 million containers pass through each year. Shipments include a variety of goods, including appliances and other electronics, garments and furniture from China, Taiwan and other Asian countries.

Last year, China Ocean Shipping Co., commonly known as COSCO, bought Orient; but the U.S. government, which regulates mergers for antitrust and security reasons, stepped in and required COSCO to sell its rights to the Container Terminal before it could do so.

COSCO, which also has a stake in a Port of L.A. terminal, agreed in July 2018. In December, it began the process of selling the Long Beach terminal.

Macquarie, meanwhile, is a massive international fund headquartered in Australia, with $131 billion in assets.
