At Least 17 Killed, Several Injured as Train Runs Over Workers Sleeping on Track in India

 

Initial information suggests that the incident involving a freight train occurred due to a group of workers in the southern Indian state of Maharashtra sleeping on railroad tracks.

 

As many as 17 people were killed and many injured after a train ran over them in the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra on Friday morning.

 

According to police, the incident took place at around 6:30 a.m. local time.

 

An Indian railway (South Central Zone) spokesperson said that the accident happened near Karmad, Aurangabad, when a freight train of empty cars ran over people who had been sleeping on or close to the tracks.

 

A local police official stated that the workers were heading to their native state Madhya Pradesh.

 

"Investigation has revealed that the workers had been walking along the railway track to reach back home and were resting on the tracks," the officer said.

 

Police are trying to identify the labourers, while the Railway Police Force (RPF) is assisting in the investigation and aftermath.

 

After the Indian government announced a complete lockdown in the country on 24 March to curb the spread of COVID-19, millions of migrant workers immediately began the arduous and unexpected journey to their native regions.

April Border Patrol Apprehensions Drop 84 Percent from Last Year

 

The apprehension of migrants along the southwestern border with Mexico during the month of April fell 84 percent from the same month in 2019. Agents apprehended a total of 15,862 migrants after they illegally crossed the border.

 

In April, Border Patrol agents apprehended 15,862 who illegally crossed the southwest border between ports of entry. Those included 734 unaccompanied minors, 604 family units, and 14,524 single adult migrants, according to the Southwest Border Migration Report released Thursday.

 

The number of apprehensions dropped significantly during each month of this fiscal year due to policies put in place by the Trump Administration and partner countries including Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. From March to April, the numbers dropped even more significantly amid Coronavirus and related protocols.

 

In March, agents apprehended 30,002 including 2,938 unaccompanied minors, 3,369 family units, and 23,695 single adults. The April total apprehensions fell by 47 percent month to month.

 

The larges drops came in the apprehension of family migrants and unaccompanied minors. Trump administration officials put protocols in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that called for the return of nearly all migrants apprehended after illegally crossing the border to Mexico. The migrants are medically screened, have a criminal background check, and then those who are not flagged are immediately put back across the border into Mexico.

 

The apprehension of family units who illegally crossed the border fell by 82 percent from March to April and 98 percent from April 2019 to this year. Similarly, the apprehension of unaccompanied minors fell from March to April by 75 percent — 91 percent from April 2019.

 

The largest number of apprehensions of migrants continues to occur in the Rio Grande Valley Sector where agents apprehended 3,264 migrants who illegally crossed the border.

President Obama was aware of the details of then-incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn's intercepted December 2016 phone calls with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, apparently surprising then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, according to documents released Thursday as exhibits to the government's motion to dismiss the Flynn case.

 

Obama's unexpectedly intimate knowledge of the details of Flynn's calls, which the FBI said at the time were not criminal in nature, raised eyebrows because of his own history with Flynn — and because top FBI officials secretly discussed whether their goal was to 'get [Flynn] fired' when they interviewed him in the White House on January 24, 2017.

 

In reaction to the news, Mark Levin joined Fox News's Sean Hannity to discuss the revelations, holding up the documents and telling the host, "Sean, you know what this is? This is Barack Obama's blue dress. That's what that is, without the DNA on it."

Very interesting. I know nothing about the coding aspects, but have long harboured suspicions about Professor Ferguson and his work. The discrepancies between his projections and what is actually observed (and he has modelled many epidemics) is beyond surreal! Mathematical models of epidemics are just simplified representations of reality. One can fit them to data, once one has data, and the fit may be impressive. But as a predictive tool, in the absence of much data, they may be useless. Having experience of mathematical modelling of epidemics, and knowing their limitations, it is bewildering how countries around the world have imposed all these silly lockdown measures, seemingly because of one computer program by someone who isn’t even a mathematician or programmer.

 

It seems to me that politicians, afraid of appearing ignorant when their academic “professor” buddy told them everyone was gonna die, and being pressured by an increasingly hysterical media reporting every individual case of coronavirus, decided lockdown was a good idea. First, it’s a strawman argument to suggest that professional software developers expect some kind of code purity. Second, when you refer to professionals as “IT geeks”, you are attempting to undermine their professional credibility without addressing their merits of their concerns. It’s just banal rhetoric.

 

Expecting well organized and documented code is not an expectation of purity. It’s a best practice so that when bugs are discovered, they will be far easier to track down when the code is orderly and the programmer’s intentions are documented. Every professional “IT geek” understands this.

Novice programmers tend to get so wrapped up with their project that they don’t take the time to rewrite their doodling into something more orderly and reusable. Lastly, in case you haven’t noticed, the world runs on quality software. We literally trust our lives to it whenever we fly on a plane, for example. I can’t say the same for much of what the geeks in academia generate.

I disagree. A stochastic model is simply a deterministic model that has inputs that are generated randomly.

 

For example, let’s say I run a stochastic simulation of a random walk. I build a deterministic model that says if my input number is less than 0.5 then take a step left, else take a step right. I then use a random number generator that gives a me a number between 0 and 1. If I generate 5 numbers and they are all less than 0.5, then the person should have taken 5 steps left. If my output says they are anywhere else other than 5 steps left, then my model is broken and running it multiple times and averaging it doesn’t fix the issue.

 

For example, let’s say my model actually says take a step left if the number is less than 0.5 AND if Neil Ferguson is horny. Unless Neil is horny every second, then my output will be wrong. If Neil is horny only 1/2 of the time, then the random walk will be too far right. Averaging the outputs will not fix that error.

 

And I work in insurance modeling. The comment about insurance modeling is a bit too kind! Better than what Neil is giving us though.

So I spent the day fighting with the county government. I have a farm structure and I need to get a 200 amp power box hooked up so I can have things like lights and tools and such. Easy stuff right? Get a permit, Pay the fees, get power and im done right? WRONG. Noooo. My barn does not have an ADDRESS.. because why the fuck would a barn have an address right? Oh!! and the road access that I never use is not up to some new code or another… BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! I have to pay fees and fill our all sorts of forms and bullshit. The wire is literally 100 feet away from my barn. The county agent cant process it because they are stuck at home so they were bouncing me around all over the place to peoples cell phones and shit like that. What a nightmare.

Atkinson saw to it that the whistleblower form was updated to allow for second hand information, which the ‘whistleblower’ (believed to be Eric Ciaramella) provided in his complaint. Although, the form should not have been accepted based on second-hand information and because it was about the President of the United States (who is not in the IC), Atkinson accepted the complaint.

 

The whistleblower later attempted to edit the form he originally provided. The original form stated that the whistleblower did not talk to Congress before filing the form but after it was discovered that he had met with Adam Schiff’s team in Congress, the whistleblower attempted to edit his form.

A new study finds no evidence of benefit from a malaria drug widely promoted as a treatment for coronavirus infection.

 

Hydroxychloroquine did not lower the risk of dying or needing a breathing tube in a comparison that involved nearly 1,400 patients treated at Columbia University in New York, researchers reported Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

 

Although the study is observational rather than a rigorous experiment, it gives valuable information for a decision that hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 patients have already had to make without clear evidence about the drug’s risks and benefits, some journal editors and other doctors wrote in an editorial.

 

“It is disappointing that several months into the pandemic, we do not yet have results” from any strict tests of the drug, they wrote. Still, the new study “suggests that this treatment is not a panacea.”

 

President Donald Trump repeatedly urged the use of hydroxychloroquine, which is used now for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. It has potentially serious side effects, including altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death.

 

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned against its use for coronavirus infections except in formal studies.

 

Doctors at Columbia tracked how 565 patients who did not get the drug fared compared to 811 others who received hydroxychloroquine with or without the antibiotic azithromycin, a combo Trump also has touted.

 

In all, 180 patients required breathing tubes and 232 died, and the drug did not seem to affect the odds of either.

 

Patients given hydroxychloroquine were generally sicker than the others, but widely accepted methods were used to take that into account and still no benefit was seen for the drug.

 

Its use started within two days of admission for nearly all who received it. Some critics of earlier studies have said treatment may have started too late to do any good.

 

The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health, which has launched two of its own trials comparing hydroxychloroquine to placebo — the gold standard for establishing safety and effectiveness.

 

One study involves COVID-19 patients, and the other aims to see whether the drug can help prevent infections in health care workers exposed to the virus. Both got started in April.

American political observers have explained how the new disclosure may backfire on US intelligence.

 

The new evidence indicates that the retired United States Army lieutenant general apparently fell victim to a perjury trap set by the FBI, says Flynn's defence, raising the question as to why Justice Department prosecutors refused to produce the aforementioned Brady material for so long.

 

On 4 May, Republican lawmakers Jim Jordan, R-Oh, and Mike Johnson, R-La, wrote a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray criticising the "Obama-Biden era FBI" for multiple instances of "political bias and serious misconduct", requesting that he "immediately review" the actions of the FBI in targeting General Michael Flynn and asking why the bombshell evidence provided by the DOJ as part of AG William Barr's a re-examination of Flynn’s case had not been divulged by Wray earlier.

 

'What's Our Goal? Truth or Get Him to Lie?'

 

The discovered files include handwritten notes attributed to then-Counterintelligence Director at the FBI Bill Priestap which were taken in January 2017, after a meeting with former FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, according to Fox News.

 

"What's our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?" Priestap wrote.

 

"If we get him to admit to breaking the Logan Act give facts to DOJ + have them decide… If we’re seen as playing games, W[hite] H[ouse] will be furious. Protect our institution by not playing games", the notes further read.

 

Even before the documents were made public, American legal experts repeatedly expressed concerns about the way Michael Flynn was interviewed by FBI agents Peter Strzok and Joe Pientka as they neither informed the White House counsel about their plans, thus leaving the general without a lawyer on hand during the interview, nor played the recordings of the phone talk in question for Flynn.

 

"My take on the FBI’s methods used here is that certain highly-placed people in the FBI appeared to have grossly violated those methods, and that their conduct represents a serious threat to democracy and the rule of law", says Ron Coleman, a New York attorney and political commentator.

 

"The FBI’s misconduct is astounding, but unfortunately not unprecedented. It is a disgrace and shocking", agrees Paul Gosar, a Republican congressman from Arizona.

 

'New Notes Warrant a Dismissal of Flynn's Case'

Gosar outlines "three serious deficiencies" in the recent revelation:

 

· "First, the FBI had a duty, called the Brady Doctrine, to turn over all exculpatory evidence. The recently released memos were not turned over to the defence and are obviously exculpatory in that they demonstrate prosecutorial abuse and a set-up for a perjury trap".

 

· "Second, it is disturbing to see how the FBI in fact is playing partisan 'games' but wanted to conceal that too. The memo says 'If we’re seen as playing games, WH will be furious'. How a professional law enforcement agency is even debating how to conceal its 'game playing' so the White House would not be 'furious' is an amazing concession of incompetence and bias".

 

· "Finally, the discussion about what its goals are, including 'Truth/admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?' is fundamentally dishonest and abusive. The FBI has one job: uncover the truth and pursue justice".

 

These memos alone warrant a dismissal of Flynn's case, according to Gosar.

Instead, he was the target of a 'perjury trap'".

 

While he deems it possible that the heads of some low-ranking officials will roll, Jatras does not expect that "the big fish" – former FBI Director James Comey, ex-DNI Jim Clapper, ex-CIA Director John Brennan, and Barack Obama – will ever be called to account.

 

Furthermore, this political tactic to cripple Trump has worked and it cannot be undone, the former diplomat underscores: "It was a political vendetta against Trump to pick off one of his top people, expose him to total Deep State control. I've heard talk of this before and it's given me pause. If true, I screwed up badly the 1st half of my life, the path I walked then was not the right one and it came back to bite me badly, caused me years of pain. I turned my life around, but the pain has still followed me (now psychical spine pain 24/7), I accept it as part of God's plans for me and I'm just so thankful for all the good blessing I have in my life each and every day. Life is what you make of it, I choose to accept the hardships and look for the good in life. Maybe that's part of my lesson, I don't know and I don't question it. I just keep moving forward and am thankful for the blessing I have.

we built our farm without electricity

used a small genset for basic electric hand tools

bought a big lincoln truck mounted welder/genset at a good price because the engine had 300k miles on it and had dropped a valve - welder setup was fine

 

it literally was too much power for what we did, tbh.

 

you can also buy a genset that puts out 240V and use it when you need it - let the smaller one do the rest

 

we still use solar/battery to move rainwater and stream water uphill, and to light the barns at night using 12VDC lighting

 

for hot water, we coiled a 2" black plastic hose inside a 8'x8' box in a spiral. Painted black background and then slid plexi cover over it.

it easily gets water to 100 deg when things are sunny and all we did was pipe it ahead of our propane heater - so we also burn less propane
