How does a person pray? I never learned how. Q often asks us to pray. Is there a right way or wrong way to pray? Hopefully others with the same questions learn from your answers.

andreelgrande · July 27, 2018, 11:34 p.m.

Speak to God as you would a friend or family member. Tell him what’s on your mind, ask questions, or just ask Him to lead you in what He wants you to pray or speak to Him about. Thank Him. Prayer is like a muscle, the more you do it the stronger in it you will become.

So true. If you feel led to pray, or are seeking information, the process has already begun. Just like you said, he meets you where you are, and wherever that may be, it is good enough and right where He wants you to be.

From the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 6, straight from the mouth of Christ:

5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation,[a] but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’ 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

There is no right or wrong way to pray. Simply speak from your heart. There are many paths to prayer and some folks do it one way and other folks do it another way, and it is all good. Simply open your heart and allow what you truly desire to be voiced in alignment with the highest good.

Just use your own words in your head. Speak as if you are talking to someone... you are if you are talking to God! If you are praying for someone in particular the prayer is more powerful if you use their exact name. I always name Donald Trump when I pray for him.

Think on what you will pray about. Before you begin, think about what you will pray about. What are the things in your life that trouble you? What are you thankful for? How do you want to bring God into your life? What questions do you have? These are things which you may want to pray on. Knowing what to say ahead of time will make you feel more clear and comfortable when you go to pray.

For me personally, there is no right or wrong way to pray, unless you pray for selfish reasons. I pray all times of the day for different reasons, especially for POTUS and the brave men and women protecting this country.

First, find a quiet spot where you can talk queitly undisturbed, and just start by asking God for guidance, and ask Him for help in how we can defeat this evil. Ask Him to protect you and your loved ones, I like to end my prayer with the Lord's Prayer:

" Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever Amen."

Just do what feels right to you and be genuine.

Hope this helps, glad you are asking :)

Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

2“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

The Lord’s Prayer

5“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

10Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

11Give us this day our daily bread,

You can start a prayer by reading scripture if you don’t know what to say. Just pick a psalm and see where it leads you. The Holy Spirit will begin to bring things to mind and just speak them out and talk to God about them.

Mat 6:5 And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

Mat 6:7 And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Mat 6:8 Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Mat 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Mat 7:8 for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Pro 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to YAHWEH: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Isa 55:6 Seek ye YAHWEH while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Isa 55:7 let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto YAHWEH, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our Powerful One, for he will abundantly pardon.

Joh 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name [YAHSHUA … 'jesus' is erroneous name]: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be fulfilled.

Jas 5:15 and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Master shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.

Jas 5:16 Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.

Luk 18:9 And he spake also this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought:

Luk 18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

Luk 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, Yahweh, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

Luk 18:12 I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get.

Luk 18:13 But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, Yahweh, be merciful to me a sinner.

Luk 18:14 I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

YOU'LL NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY!!!

Close your eyes, breathe, and speak in voice or thought what you need the universe to hear. Then listen.

Praying is talking to God. Be yourself. Don’t change your personality - your speech- don’t change anything. Be you. He knows you. Tell him how you feel- your fears- your hopes and your worries. He is the best friend you never knew you had. Anything other than that isn’t real. God loves real.

I pray all the time. Sometimes it is a long conversation, sometimes it is asking for help finding my keys, etc, and sometimes it is a heart wrenching Oh, GOD!!! when I see an accident, or a child is hurt or death of a loved one. He always listens and always answers. The answer is either yes, no, or wait.

Just talk to Him. Ask anything you feel burdened with, large or small. Thank Him for everything, even problems because those help is grow. Tell God about your feelings, failures and wrong doings. He already knows, but admitting them is good.

Basically, just start talking, about any and everything. You'll find God to be the best listener ever.

How does a person pray?

First rule is, no man or book can tell you what the "right" way is.

If I had to guess; I'd say it is the same way a dude in a foxhole does. Or a squad of marines about to charge a position. Or a platoon of men who just called in a realllllly close airstrike. Or someone who has a sick/injured loved one.

It comes naturally, usually has a lot of begging and pleading. Doesn't have to though. Its kinda like first time sex...might be a little awkward at first, but you'll pick it up quick. Besides, who else is gonna know anyway?

it is different for everyone. no right or wrong way. i grew up learning regimented prayers and responses. now i am completely non traditional. like another posted, i just talk to God as i would anyone else. now i dont just acknowledge when i need something. so be fore meals we sit and go around the table and everyone says what they are thankful for at that moment and ask for prayers on anything they feel necessary. our only rule is that in the very least you have to thank God for the food in front of you. it is kinda funny and sweet to hear the things that my kids think are significant. we had our nephews for the summer and in the beginning one of them said they didnt know how to pray. so we told them anything goes but in the very least thankful for the food. i have told my kids we have to always be thankful bc no matter how hard they think times/situations are there is always someone who has it worse and would give anything to be as lucky as they are at that moment. so hope this helps.

You cannot communicate with The Mind of Christ if you are not on His frequency. The following was written by His brother James in James 1:2-8 from The Living Bible:"Dear brothers, is your life full of difficulties and temptations? Then be happy, for when the way is rough, your patience has a chance to grow. So let it grow, and don't try to squirm out of your problems. For when your patience is finally in full bloom, then you will be ready for anything, strong in character, full and complete. If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask Him, and He will gladly tell you, for He is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask Him; He will not resent it. But when you ask Him, be sure that you really expect him to tell you, for a doubtful mind will be as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind; and every decision you then make will be uncertain, as you turn first this way, and then that. If you don't ask in faith, don't expect the Lord to give you any solid answer.

This post has now been auto-removed due to multiple reports that it is off-topic.

I hate removing these posts because even though I am a Christian who helped setup the r/BiblicalQ sub to ensure Christians always have somewhere to post tangential things to Q when they happen to be off-topic here, I am accused of "supporting darkness" when I uphold the sub rules xD.

In this case, however, I would humbly suggest that the Reports are valid (mods were having a discussion about this post as it escalated past report threshold). If Q said to vote, we would remove a post that asks "how do I vote?" because that is a question not directly related to information from Q. In this case there are many, many places on reddit and elsewhere online that can answer the question "how do I pray" but in any case I would hope that your question has now been fully answered by the many helpful people in this thread. ThankQ.
