Hackers have breached organizations in defense and other sensitive sectors, security firm says

(CNN)Suspected foreign hackers have breached nine organizations in the defense, energy, health care, technology and education sectors -- and at least one of those organizations is in the US, according to findings that security firm Palo Alto Networks shared exclusively with CNN.

With the help of the National Security Agency, cybersecurity researchers are exposing an ongoing effort by these unidentified hackers to steal key data from US defense contractors and other sensitive targets.

It's the type of cyber espionage that security agencies in both the Biden and Trump administrations have aggressively sought to expose before it does too much damage. The goal in going public with the information is to warn other corporations that might be targeted and to burn the hackers' tools in the process.

Officials from the NSA and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are tracking the threat. A division of the NSA responsible for mitigating foreign cyber threats to the US defense industrial base contributed analysis to the Palo Alto Networks report....

Good morning. I'd like to make 3 points:

1) The vast majority of disinformation, propaganda and lies that flooded the country over the last 5 years did not come from MAGA boomers on Facebook or 4Chan teenagers but the largest and most influential liberal corporate media outlets.

2) These are not cases where media outlets erred. They deliberately lied. The way to know that is they refuse to acknowledge evidence proving they lied.

Here’s how they crushed Mayor Sobyanin’s vaccine passport – and it was pretty simple. Moscow residents simply stopped frequenting any business that required a vaccine passport.

The really beautiful thing about this was that the vaccinated people stood in solidarity with the unvaccinated. Business trickled to near zero at all establishments where the vaccine passport was required.

Moscow residents let their hair grow out, skipped going to bars and restaurants, didn’t go to the movies, didn’t stay in hotels or do anything else that required a vaccine passport.

Business owners from all over the city were suddenly calling Mayor Sobyanin’s office to chew his ear off about the vaccine passports. They were going broke, and they were mad as hell about it.

Marina Zemskova, the head of a regional hotel and restaurant association in Russia, said the vaccine passport turned out to be worse for business than a full lockdown. At least if there was another lockdown, she notes, businesses “could count on some kind of government support measures.”

There’s no government support coming under a vaccine passport system. What the not-very-elite elites failed to anticipate about Moscow residents was they would simply not participate in the scam at all.

The business owners were so infuriated with the mayor that Sobyanin made a sudden, surprise announcement on July 19th that nobody needs to use a vaccine passport anymore. He made up a hilarious excuse, claiming that COVID case rates were all better suddenly, as the reason for lifting the QR code passports.

But everyone knew the truth. Moscow residents decided that their medical privacy and their right to travel is more important than whatever the people in charge were telling them.

It was a massive case of civil disobedience – and they didn’t even have to go outside and set things on fire in a big protest. All they did was say, “Any business that wants to see a vaccine passport from me is not getting any of my money.”

Enumclaw WA passes resolution to condemn vaccine verification mandate as discriminatory

The resolution reads that "citizens and businesses should be treated equally without discrimination, regardless of vaccination status."

"…in the roughly six weeks that has passed between the announcement and the implementation of the vaccine verification the hospitalizations and case count within King County has dropped significantly."

The council also recognized "…that private businesses have not been given training over vaccine verification, testing verification or de-escalation training for mandates in which they were not given a choice in implementing," and that the council "...does not support government mandates or restrictions promoting COVID-19 classification, grouping, segregating, or discriminating in our community."

JABBED ONLY UK VISITORS NOW ABLE TO TRAVEL TO US AFTER 2 YEARS

UK visitors are now able to travel to the US for the first time in nearly two years.

The border reopened at 05:01 GMT and the first flights took off from Heathrow at 08:51. All UK visitors over 18 have to provide proof of vaccination to enter the US.

American travellers have been able to travel to the UK since 28 July.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has called this a "significant moment" for UK-US travel.

Transatlantic flights, he added, are "at the heart of UK aviation".

In addition to the UK, the travel ban is being lifted for people from Brazil, China, India, Ireland, South Africa, Iran and the Schengen countries - a group of 26 European nations.

Until Monday, only US citizens, residents and a small selection of other exempt groups have been allowed entry to the US from the UK.

The new rules apply to all individuals that have received vaccines approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and vaccines Listed for Emergency Use (EUL) by the World Health Organization.

The White House's assistant press secretary, Kevin Munoz, confirmed on 15 October that double vaccinated foreign nationals would be able to visit the US from 8 November.

The US’ new travel policy that requires vaccination for foreign national travelers to the United States will begin on Nov 8. This announcement and date applies to both international air travel and land travel. This policy is guided by public health, stringent, and consistent.

The UK has been on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s highest risk category for Covid, level 4 or "very high" since 19 July.

The CDC said that vaccines approved by the US FDA and WHO's EUL vaccines will be accepted. Therefore, travellers that have received one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the following vaccines will be allowed to enter the US: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covaxin, Covishield, BIBP/Sinopharm, and Sinovac

Travellers must provide proof of vaccination via their vaccine passport. Certificates including the NHS Covid Pass are accepted.

As well as being double vaccinated, travellers will have to provide proof of either a negative Covid test result - taken no more than three days before travelling - or show that they have recovered from the virus in the previous three months.

Children are exempt from the vaccination requirement, but all those aged between two and 17 will have to take a Covid-19 test three to five days after arrival.

Fully jabbed American visitors travelling to the UK need to take a test on or before the second day of their arrival.

After a difficult 21 months, airlines have increased UK-US flight schedules to meet the higher demand.

President Joe Biden and top officials in his Cabinet are hitting the road to promote the $1 trillion infrastructure bill passed in Congress last week, to explain when and where Americans can expect to see some of the funds in their own communities.

KKR enters Japan infrastructure with Central Tank Terminal deal

$440m acquisition from Macquarie targets port storage operator.

U.S. investment fund KKR will buy its first infrastructure business in Japan, acquiring Central Tank Terminal for an estimated 50 billion yen ($440 million). Central Tank, established in 1966, operates chemical storage tanks at key ports such as Kawasaki, Yokohama and Kobe. The company is a leader in the field, counting major chemical producers among its more than 80 clients. Australia's Macquarie Group took over management in 2016.

The acquisition will be made through a $3.9 billion fund that KKR set up in January, its first specializing in Asia-Pacific infrastructure. While KKR's investment targets in Japan have included supermarket operator Seiyu and medical device maker PHC Holdings, the fund has never bought into a fixed-asset-heavy infrastructure business.

The acquisition will let Central Tank tap KKR's deep pockets to acquire rivals and build more tanks. It will consider offering tanks for hydrogen, anticipating growing demand for the fuel as the world shifts away from carbon. Private equity firms typically seek to recoup their investment after boosting the target's corporate value over several years.

In the U.S. and Europe, funds are investing in a broad range of infrastructure businesses from energy to telecommunications and transportation as they seek steady profits in a low-interest-rate environment. U.S. Pins Possible Strategic Oil Release on Report Due This Week

The Biden Administration is waiting on a report Tuesday that details the government’s outlook on energy prices, consumption and supply before deciding whether to tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to counter high gasoline prices.

The Short Term Energy Outlook, put out monthly by the Energy Information Administration, is watched closely by traders and policy makers. Last month the report predicted that gasoline and crude prices would start to decline next year as the oil market returns to a surplus. Since the report came out on October 13, U.S. benchmark crude oil has topped $85 a barrel as global demand has recovered far more swiftly from the pandemic in contrast to energy production.

Here’s a look at what the STEO said in October:

U.S. regular gasoline retail prices would average $3.21 per gallon in October before declining to $3.05 per gallon in December. Prices at the pump are currently averaging $3.42 per gallon, according to AAA.

The government forecast the average West Texas Intermediate and Brent crude prices in 2022 would fall to $68.24 a barrel and $71.91 a barrel, respectively.

The government predicts that output will rise to 11.7 million barrels a day in 2022, that’s still much lower than the nearly 13 million barrels the nation was producing in early 2020.

U.S. SEC names attorney Erica Williams to chair public accounting watchdog

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday named defense attorney Erica Williams as chair of the nation's public accounting watchdog.

The SEC said it appointed Williams head of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. She previously managed legal and operational functions of the agency, including workflow relating to recommendations from the SEC's compliance division. She also oversaw "significant personnel, labor and employment matters," it added. The agency said acting chair Duane Desparte will continue to serve as a board member. In June, the SEC voted to remove the head of the oversight board that sets standards for audits of public companies and said it planned to replace the rest of the board in due course. It said at the time that it would solicit additional members as it sought to replace the chair.

On Monday, the SEC also named former Democratic-appointed SEC commissioner Kara Stein and two others as members of the accounting watchdog. "With these additions to the Board, the PCAOB will have the leadership to meet the mission given to it by Congress -- ensuring that public company financial disclosures can be trusted by investors," said SEC Chair Gary Gensler. The PCAOB, created by the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley Act following major accounting scandals, has long been criticized by Democrats for being toothless.

Hawks want it to take a tougher stance on Chinese auditors of U.S.-listed Chinese companies which have generally evaded U.S. oversight. The announcement of what the SEC said is "the most diverse board in the PCAOB's history" a reference to the panel's first non-white membership and leadership is widely expected to help raise the quality of audits and assist the SEC by inspecting and fining auditors in breach of the rules, advocates say.

Increases in COVID-19 are unrelated to levels of vaccination across 68 countries and 2947 counties in the United States

Findings

At the country-level, there appears to be no discernable relationship between percentage of population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days(Fig. 1). In fact, the trend line suggests amarginally positive association such that countries with higher percentage of population fully vaccinated have higher COVID-19 cases per 1 million people.Notably, Israel with over 60% of their population fully vaccinated had the highest COVID-19 cases per 1 million people in the last 7 days. The lack of a meaningful association between percentage population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases is further exemplified, for instance, by comparison of Iceland and Portugal. Both countries have over 75% of their population fully vaccinated and have more COVID-19 cases per 1 million people than countries such as Vietnam and South Africa that have around 10% of their population fully vaccinated.

Across the US counties too, the median new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people in the last 7 days is largely similar across the categories of percent population fully vaccinated (Fig. 2). Notably there is also substantial county variation in new COVID-19 cases within categories of percentage population fully vaccinated.There also appears to be no significant signaling of COVID-19 cases decreasing with higher percentages of population fully vaccinated(Fig. 3).

Of the top 5 counties that have the highest percentage of population fully vaccinated(99.9–84.3%), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) identifies 4 of them as “High” Transmission counties.Chattahoochee (Georgia), McKinley (New Mexico), and Arecibo (Puerto Rico) counties have above 90% of their population fully vaccinated with all three being classified as “High” transmission.

Conversely, of the 57 counties that have been classified as “low” transmission counties by the CDC, 26.3% (15) have percentage of population fully vaccinated below 20%.

Since full immunity from the vaccine is believed to take about 2 weeks after the second dose, we conducted sensitivity analyses by using a 1-month lag on the percentage population fully vaccinated for countries and US counties. The above findings of no discernable association between COVID-19 cases and levels of fully vaccinated was also observed when we considered a 1-month lag on the levels of fully vaccinated (Supplementary Figure 1, Supplementary Figure 2).

We should note that the COVID-19 case data is of confirmed cases, which is a function of both supply (e.g., variation in testing capacities or reporting practices) and demand-side (e.g., variation in people’s decision on when to get tested) factors.

Interpretation

The sole reliance on vaccination as a primary strategy to mitigate COVID-19 and its adverse consequences needs to be re-examined, especially considering the Delta(B.1.617.2) variant and the likelihood of future variants. Other pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions may need to be put in place alongside increasing vaccination rates. Such course correction, especially with regards to the policy narrative, becomes paramount with emerging scientific evidence on real world effectiveness of the vaccines.

CBP seizes shipment from Chinese company with ties to John Kerry: report

President Biden’s climate czar, John Kerry, holds a $1 million stake in an investment fund that backed a Chinese company under fire for using slave labor.

US Customs and Border Protection seized a shipment last week from LONGi Green Energy Technology, the world’s largest maker of solar panels, under a law prohibiting foreign imports manufactured using forced labor, the Washington Free Beacon reported Monday. LONGi buys polysilicon, a material used in the production of solar panels, from three companies that get their raw materials from Xinjiang-based Hoshine Silicon Industry. Hoshine was placed under restrictions by the Biden administration in June for using forced labor in a region of China where Uyghurs and other Muslim minority groups are being held in massive detention centers and made to work against their will. The products were temporarily held by CBP from Oct. 28 to Nov. 3 under a “Withhold Release Order,” LONGi said in an announcement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Nov. 4, the Free Beacon reported.

Such orders ban the importation of foreign goods that are mined, produced or manufactured using forced labor. Along with LONGi, JinkoSolar Holding Company Limited, Canadian Solar Inc. and Trina Solar Co. — which all have ties to Hoshine — have had shipments stopped in recent months, Bloomberg News reported.

Last December, Hillhouse China Value Fund acquired a 6 percent stake in LONGi, making it the company’s second-largest shareholder. Kerry, a former secretary of state in the Obama administration, holds a stake in Hillhouse through a trust that benefits his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry. Hillhouse Capital Group is operated by billionaire Chinese investor Zhang Lei, who has ties to the Chinese Communist Party. Republicans have long criticized Kerry for his connection to a company allegedly involved in labor abuses, with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) suggesting Kerry is “profiting from slave labor” in an op-ed published last month by Fox News. Rubio, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, accused Kerry of working against a bill that would make it impossible to import products made by forced labor in Xinjiang. “President Biden now has a choice: stand by the man profiting from slave labor or fire him,” Rubio wrote. “It should be an easy choice, but the Biden administration and some Democrats are so desperate for a climate deal with the Chinese Communist Party that they are willing to ignore the regime’s use of slave labor.” The Free Beacon said LONGi, the White House and the CBP did not respond to requests for comment.

Chiro introduced me to an older lady, maybe 60, wasn't sure why - understood after talking w/her. Isolated, in pain, alone, moved here recently. Conservative. We talked and jab came up. Said she got it back at the beginning. Now in a lot of pain and having constant vision problems. The opthalmologist knew, actually mentioned the spike protein - wonder what he saw when he looked at her eyes. They didn't look right to me, teary. She didn't realize, even then. Not til today.

I've seen his vids. He's concerned but that's a far as it goes. Notes discrepancies and problems but never the implications.

He did put out more than video about NOT aspirating the needle, which he considered to be a very bad practice, since it means you can hit the bloodstream and not know it. It's about a month and.....crickets. But he moves onto the next topic - does not change his conventional stance.

Sometimes i think people like this are almost worse than the ones who know what they are doing.
