Its a little bit of an odd request but I started Qnotables.com back in Jan 2019. I am not a web designer just an blue collar anon that learned some things along the way. My wife and I welcomed our third child a few months ago and I quickly remembered how much work babies are. On top of that my other two are out of school and require my attention, and I work 40+ hours a week outside the home. I'm not finding but a few minutes here and there to sit down at my main work pc,

I need help or more or less someone to run with the project and become a partner. I am so far behind attempting to stay up to date with the news and spread information on twitter I just do not have the time to get it where I'm happy with the presentation. Site is ad free. The work of the special counsel’s office , its report, indictments, guilty pleas and convictions , should speak for itself. But I feel compelled to respond both to broad claims that our investigation was illegitimate and our motives were improper, and to specific claims that Roger Stone was a victim of our office. The Russia investigation was of paramount importance. Stone was prosecuted and convicted because he committed federal crimes. He remains a convicted felon, and rightly so.

 

Russia’s actions were a threat to America’s democracy. It was critical that they be investigated and understood. By late 2016, the FBI had evidence that the Russians had signaled to a Trump campaign adviser that they could assist the campaign through the anonymous release of information damaging to the Democratic candidate. And the FBI knew that the Russians had done just that: Beginning in July 2016, WikiLeaks released emails stolen by Russian military intelligence officers from the Clinton campaign. Other online personas using false names β€” fronts for Russian military intelligence β€” also released Clinton campaign emails.

 

Following FBI Director James B. Comey’s termination in May 2017, the acting attorney general named me as special counsel and directed the special counsel’s office to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The order specified lines of investigation for us to pursue, including any links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump campaign. One of our cases involved Stone, an official on the campaign until mid-2015 and a supporter of the campaign throughout 2016. Stone became a central figure in our investigation for two key reasons: He communicated in 2016 with individuals known to us to be Russian intelligence officers, and he claimed advance knowledge of WikiLeaks’ release of emails stolen by those Russian intelligence officers.

 

We now have a detailed picture of Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. The special counsel’s office identified two principal operations directed at our election: hacking and dumping Clinton campaign emails, and an online social media campaign to disparage the Democratic candidate. We also identified numerous links between the Russian government and Trump campaign personnel β€” Stone among them. We did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government in its activities. The investigation did, however, establish that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome. It also established that the campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.

 

Uncovering and tracing Russian outreach and interference activities was a complex task. The investigation to understand these activities took two years and substantial effort. Based on our work, eight individuals pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial, and more than two dozen Russian individuals and entities, including senior Russian intelligence officers, were charged with federal crimes.

 

Congress also investigated and sought information from Stone. A jury later determined he lied repeatedly to members of Congress. He lied about the identity of his intermediary to WikiLeaks. He lied about the existence of written communications with his intermediary. He lied by denying he had communicated with the Trump campaign about the timing of WikiLeaks’ releases. He in fact updated senior campaign officials repeatedly about WikiLeaks. And he tampered with a witness, imploring him to stonewall Congress.

 

The jury ultimately convicted Stone of obstruction of a congressional investigation, five counts of making false statements to Congress and tampering with a witness. Because his sentence has been commuted, he will not go to prison. But his conviction stands.

 

Russian efforts to interfere in our political system, and the essential question of whether those efforts involved the Trump campaign, required investigation. In that investigation, it was critical for us (and, before us, the FBI) to obtain full and accurate information. Likewise, it was critical for Congress to obtain accurate information from its witnesses. When a subject lies to investigators, it strikes at the core of the government’s efforts to find the truth and hold wrongdoers accountable. It may ultimately impede those efforts.

 

We made every decision in Stone’s case, as in all our cases, based solely on the facts and the law and in accordance with the rule of law. The women and men who conducted these investigations and prosecutions acted with the highest integrity. Claims to the contrary are false.

Random House announced Monday that Andrew Weissmann's β€œWhere Law Ends: Inside the Mueller Investigation” will be published Sept. 29. Weissmann, often the target of criticism from Trump supporters, is calling the book a meticulous account of the Mueller team's probe and its ongoing battles with the Trump administration.

 

β€œI felt it was necessary to record this episode in our history, as seen and experienced by an insider,” he said in a statement. β€œThis is the story of our investigation into how our democracy was attacked by Russia and how those who condoned and ignored that assault undermined our ability to uncover the truth. My obligation as a prosecutor was to follow the facts where they led, using all available tools and undeterred by the onslaught of the president’s unique powers to undermine our work.

 

"I am deeply proud of the work we did and of the unprecedented number of people we indicted and convicted β€” and in record speed. But the hard truth is that we made mistakes. We could have done more. β€˜Where Law Ends’ documents the choices we made, good and bad, for all to see and judge and learn from.”

 

Weissmann, who worked as an FBI general counsel under Mueller, gained prominence as a prosecutor investigating organized crime in New York City and for his leadership of a task force looking into the Enron scandal. He has a reputation for being aggressive and experienced, and skilled in developing cooperating witnesses. Under Mueller, Weissmann led the case against former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in 2018.

 

The Mueller Report, released in April 2019, found no criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia to tip the outcome of the 2016 presidential election in Trump’s favor. But it also did not reach a conclusion on whether the president had obstructed justice. The investigation did lead to more than 30 indictments, including Manafort, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and longtime Trump friend Roger Stone, whose sentence for seven felony crimes was commuted last week by the president.

West German band the Scorpions wrote "Wind of Change" β€” or did they?

What if it turned out your favorite song had been written by theCIA?That’s exactly what a new podcast aims to determine.

In 1990, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, West German band the Scorpions released their prescient balladβ€œWind of Change.”With earnest lyrics about togetherness and the β€œchildren of tomorrow,” the song sounds like an anthem to the end of the Cold War. But, according to The New Yorker’s Patrick Radden Keefe, there’s reason to believe the hit ballad could have been a CIA concoction created to aid in the West’s fight against communism.

In the eight-part podcast Wind of Change, produced by Spotify, Pineapple Street Studios, and Crooked Media, Keefe takes listeners along on his reporting journey, through interviews with musicians and their fans, ex-CIA spooks and historians, as he tries to piece together the true story of the song.

Part spy caper, part Cold War-era music lesson, Wind of Change discusses the U.S. government’s history of exerting cultural influence overseas, especially through music, like in the 1950s and early 1960s, when President Eisenhower sent jazz performers Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong to introduce the American art form to listeners in the Middle East and Africa, respectively.

Keefe, whose2005 book, Chatter, was about the National Security Agency, also covers the gradual infiltration of Western music into the Soviet Union, and the roles both superpowers’ governments played: In the 1970s, Moscow officials chose SoCal country rockers the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to introduce rock & roll to the U.S.S.R., after rejecting the Doobie Brothers’ β€œloud, passionate,” β€œhard rock” and nixing the Beach Boys because of their lyrics about cars and girls. In 1989, the Moscow Music Peace Festival brought Bon Jovi, MΓΆtley CrΓΌe, Skid Row, and other hair-metal acts β€” including the Scorpions β€” to Russia for an event billed as pro-sobriety and anti-drugs. That camaraderie of the festival experience purportedly prompted Scorpions frontman Klaus Meine to pen β€œWind of Change.” Unless, as the decades-old rumor Keefe heard goes, he didn’t write it at all.

β€œYou hear a song and it affects you emotionally, almost physiologically,” says Keefe, whose podcast dropped May 11th and has recently released two additional installations. β€œThere’s a natural tendency to want to think of that as an undiluted, pure interaction between the listener and the song. Part of what I was trying to do [in the podcast] was point out that throughout the Cold War, there were moments when it was more complicated, and the hand of government was there.”

The first bonus episode, released last week, tells the story of a California musician who smuggled punk rock in and out of the Soviet Union, and a new one, out now, covers the U.S. government funding anti-Hugo ChΓ‘vez, racist songwriting in Venezuela.

Keefe spoke to Rolling Stone about reporting on classified information, feeling like a conspiracy theorist, and what it would mean if the American government wrote one of history’s bestselling rock songs. (cont.)

So when you decided on a podcast, how did you start reporting on a CIA rumor? And how was reporting for audio different from print?

I’ve written about the world of intelligence before, so I was familiar with the hazards of writing about secret worlds. What was really tricky was reporting for audio. In the past I’ve had sources who will talk to me, and we meet up, and I take notes, and I’m not recording β€” and they trust in that situation. It’s another thing altogether when you’re asking someone to speak into the microphone. There was the kind of crazy OPSEC [Operations Security] that we had to employ to talk to Rose, a clandestine officer, where we changed her name and used an actress. But we tried to have fun with it, and it hopefully gives you insight into what it’s like to do this kind of reporting.

What did you think would be the greatest challenge going into this? Were you right?

I think it was mainly the secrecy: How do you tell a story about the covert world that doesn’t feel like you’re just glancing around the edges? And that was a challenge, but I’m really happy with the way we put it together in the end because there’s a bunch of stuff in there that has not really been known up until now. Not just the Scorpions’ story but, I mean, the Nina Simone story. This guy Hugh Wilford, this academic, had gone into the files and discovered that Nina Simone basically got sent to Nigeria unbeknown to her by the CIA in 1961. That one may have hit me especially strongly, because I grew up listening to Nina Simone. Of all the artists we talk about in the show, she’s probably the one who has meant the most to me for the longest, and it’s hard to escape the conclusion that had she known, she would have been pretty furious. I guess what I’m saying is I think the challenge was, how do you tell a story that is both delivering the goods β€” in terms of things that are secret, and that people haven’t known before, and chronicling the secret history β€” but also is candid about the challenges and the things that we don’t know and will never know?

How did you get so many ex-CIA people to talk?

Slowly. We actually interviewed more ex-CIA people than are in the final podcast. There were some we just couldn’t work in in the end. It was a slow process. In some instances I had introductions from people, which helped. I think the intelligence community is like any other subculture. It really helps to have somebody who can be a referee or a broker who can vouch for you. It was tricky particularly because we didn’t want to tell people right upfront we’re making a podcast about whether the CIA wrote β€œWind of Change.” If you announce that in your initial overture, nobody’s going to say yes.

What’s your understanding of why some former CIA officers can speak so much on the record β€” Jonna Mendez, who you interviewed, givesTED Talks, for example β€” and others can’t speak to you at all?

It has to do with where you were, what you were doing, how much time has passed, and to what extent you want to go through the whole process. Jonna has to get everything she says or writes approved through a board to make sure there’s nothing classified in there. There may be other people for whom it’s just not worth the effort. So it’s a combination of factors, but it was kind of interesting for us for exactly the reason you said: There were some people who could be really forthcoming, though you’ll notice that was mostly people talking about something that happened longer ago. In Jonna’s case she can tell us all sorts of stuff but literally when we wanted her to say the country she lived in she was like, β€œYou have to bleep that out. I can’t tell you where I lived 25 years ago, because it’s still classified.” (cont.)

Did you feel like you were chasing a conspiracy theory or a piece of music history?

Part of the fun of this whole experience was that sometimes I felt like I was chasing a really fascinating untold piece of music history, sometimes I felt like I was chasing a crazy decades-long government conspiracy, and sometimes I felt like a complete tinfoil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorist. So my emotions about what I was engaged in were vacillating throughout the process. I wanted to kind of implicate the listener in that, and make you feel the same way, give you a sense of what it means to start cracking open these types of secret worlds and whether you can trust your own eyes and ears when you’re in the middle of a story that is inescapably a hall of mirrors.

How much did you know before you started reporting about CIA cultural-influence operations? How do you feel about them now?

I knew a little bit, because during the years when this was a back-burner thing for me, I had done some research. Frances Stonor Saunders wrote the book the Cultural Cold War, which is amazing. It’s about the earlier years, and it’s very much about high culture. So there was this aspect of this whole thing if you look at the Fifties and Sixties, the CIA was basically these very elite white guys who all went to Yale and what they focus on is abstract expressionism, the Paris Review, and jazz. So they have this sense that high culture should be the vehicle for this type of influence effort. Part of what was fascinating was just knowing that, and looking at the way, you know, by 1990 it was much more about pop culture. By 1990, the CIA is not going to be pinning their hopes on Jackson Pollock paintings to win the Cold War.

In terms of how I feel about them in the grand scheme of covert action by the CIA, the stakes are probably lower than they would be with fomenting a coup or a targeted assassination or torture, but I also think that part of what I wanted to try and capture in the podcast was the way we feel about music. It kind of gives me the creeps [knowing about the government’s involvement] and it makes me question the natural reaction I have when listening to a song. I wanted to tell these stories in such a way that people would reexamine these moments in history where government started tinkering with music.

How would your impressions of the CIA be affected if they had, in fact, written this song?

I’ve thought about this constantly, as I was working on the podcast but then also just over the years. On the one hand I think there are a bunch of people, including CIA people on the podcast, who say how impressive would that be? What an amazing psy-op. I think there’s a kind of undeniable level of mastery you would have to credit them for, taking this song and sending it out there, and suddenly half of Russia is listening to β€œWind of Change.” At the same time, it’s unsettling to me to contemplate. Those are sort of the two parts of the cocktail that is this podcast. There’s this gee-whiz craziness to it, but also, I think there are ways in which when you start unpacking these stories the implications can be troubling.

Do you think this is it for this rumor you heard, or do you think you’ll keep pursuing it?

That I haven’t figured out yet. I feel as though I sort of did everything I could as a journalist, and yet there are still questions in my mind. You’re asking me on a good day. We just launched the podcast. I feel as though this is a piece of work that is complete. But check back in with me in a few months’ time and we’ll see how I feel.

Skype co-founder Toivo Annus has passed away on Sunday at the age of 48 due to an β€œunexpected illness.”

The tech community in the region remembers him as a β€œfearless investor” and a β€œbrother.”

 

β€œToivo was a fearless investor who was led by the courage of his convictions. A little bit of progress last night on the Flynn / digital soldiers graphic. Basically the 4 color matrix is one column short of the others. When corrected, it is almost an identical match for Flynn's original graphic, with exception of the lightest-colored squares.

 

So the difference between these two graphics must be important. The 5:5 repeating-pattern-graphic I see as some kind of baseline or filter, to be used with the other graphics.

 

In this example I have eliminated non-matching squares between the 3-color and 4-color matrix, and filled in the missing parts with squares from the 5:5 matrix.

 

Feels like we're on to something, but no idea what it means.

So far, we only have around 4,400 fully mapped genomes of viruses as of 2015 anyway… When they say they have identified Covid-19 and mapped it's genome, they mean they have conducted a metagenomic analysis. Meaning they analyzed a partial genetic code of a virus they swabbed from someone that was diagnosed from physical symptoms. Basically guesswork. So then they compare this to other people they have diagnosed and say well this must be the covid. Covid is called SARS-COV-2. So basically they say this virus is 87.23% similar to SARS from 2003.

 

Now lets talk a little bit about PCR and what it does. They measure a DNA or RNA sequence by replicating it over and over again until it is detectable. There are factors that make it extra difficult to be accurate when it comes to RNA. Most notably is the fact that when viruses replicate, they are very prone to errors. This means when they are replicating a RNA sample to test it and see if it matches a piece of genome, it can have many many errors because they recreate the RNA or DNA sample up to millions of times for a PCR test. Basically because they mutate so damn much (RNA type viruses) it is super fucking hard to get a very lengthy genome mapping (basically counting how many times you replicate a piece of RNA until it is detectable) that genome length and accuracy are extremely limited.

 

DNA is fairly easy to test and pretty stable. RNA however, is not.

If these differences occur early in the PCR assay, large variations in final product concentration can be produced during the exponential phase of the amplification reaction. cDNAs of lower abundance will be more likely to experience the Monte Carlo effect, since their probability of primer annealing is lower.

 

Unfortunately, this situation is difficult to resolve, since many experiments are designed to identify very low target mRNAs. One solution is to use mRNA, rather than total RNA preparations. This may improve primer-binding efficiency, as it would reduce significantly the complexity and quantity of unrelated template present during primer/target annealing. However, preparation of mRNA involves additional steps, may lead to the loss of some mRNA, and it is more difficult to assess the quality of the final product. Nevertheless, if ultimate sensitivity is the main consideration, the use of mRNA may be advisable. In addition, all assays quantitating very low target copy numbers should be run in triplicate and be repeated at least once, so that any problems with reproducibility become immediately apparent. Nevertheless, it is worth emphasising that real-time RT-PCR, like any other assay, will not generate quantitative results at the limits of its sensitivity. One of the major advantages of including a standard curve with every run is that its highest dilutions provide an immediate benchmark for the assessment of the quality of the results obtained from the unknown samples. The highest dilution of the standard curve to report consistently concordant Ct values delineates the lowest copy number that can be quantitated with confidence. If the Ct values recorded by any unknowns translate into copy numbers lower than that benchmark, they should be recorded as qualitative (yes/no) results.

Hence, if background fluorescence varies, the value of a Ct recorded for any particular sample is also going to be variable. Since the Ct is central to an appropriate understanding of the real-time assay, and at the same time is frequently misunderstood, it is important to spell out the parameters governing its value. The Ct is at the heart of the qRT-PCR assay, as it is used to determine copy numbers, which is of course the whole point of carrying out a quantitative assay. A positive Ct (defined as a fluorescence reading of less than the final cycle number) can arise due to genuine amplification, but some Ct values are not due to genuine amplification and some genuine amplification does not record a Ct.

Exactly how BYD has converted some of its manufacturing efforts in China to begin producing protective masks is unclear. On March 13, it touted the creation of β€œthe world’s largest mass-produced face masks plant” in a news release posted on the company’s website. The company announced that it would make 5 million masks a day β€” far surpassing the 100 million masks a month promised by 3M, the company best known for producing N95 masks, used to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

So basically the best test we have to authenticate if someone has SARS-COV-2 (Covid-19) Is a method of replicating RNA and watching it in real time with dyes. RNA are known to error very frequently when they replicate, and how the original sample is collected is the most important part of the test called RT-PCR. This is the one the CDC uses by the way. If they convert it to DNA then a whole host of other accuracy issues come up just converting it to DNA. Then they set their own threshold (guessing) to match the times it replicates and compare that to other tests like this done. It measures the amount of times it replicates and they match that to specific sequence (fancy way of saying how many times they counted replication in other tests) and then say aha we have a match.

They turn it into cDNA. Then the problem of tester set thresholds that can differ by laboratory.. Plus the issue of a sample of RNA needing to be collected with the upmost care and concern for preserving and making sure there is no other genetic material contaminating it such as DNA. So it makes you wonder how shoving a swab up someone's nose will meet the standards and address the problems I copy and pasted from studies that address the limitations and many issues that come up with first, mapping the genomes of viruses and the many, many issues that has, and then trying to do the test to try and match to just a small snippet of the genome that has been reported in patients who literally were diagnosed by being looked at and saying hmm I think he has COVID-19.

'Breakthrough' treatment slashes virus death risk: study

 

Paris (AFP) - An aerosol-based drug treatment could drastically reduce the number of new coronavirus patients dying from the disease or requiring intensive care, according to preliminary results released Monday by a British biotech firm.

 

In a randomised trial of 100 patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19, those who received an inhaled formula of the protein interferon beta were at 79 percent lower risk of developing severe disease compared to those who received a placebo.

 

They were also more than twice as likely to make a full recovery compared with the control group.

 

The firm behind the treatment, known as SNG001, said the preliminary results suggested "a major breakthrough" in the pandemic.

 

"We are all delighted with the trial results announced today, which showed that SNG001 greatly reduced the number of hospitalised COVID-19 patients who progressed from requiring oxygen to requiring ventilation," said Richard Marsden, CEO of Synairgen.

 

The results published Monday have not yet been peer-reviewed and the sample size is relatively small.

 

But if confirmed the treatment could revolutionise the way COVID-19 is dealt with in hospitals.

 

Interferon beta is a naturally occurring protein, commonly used to treat multiple sclerosis.

 

It forms part of the body's natural fight against infection, and the novel coronavirus suppresses its production in an attempt to evade an immune response.

 

Delivering the protein directly into the lungs of patients is designed to trigger a robust immune response to the virus, even in patients whose immune system is already weakened by infection.

 

"The results confirm our belief that interferon beta… has huge potential as an inhaled drug to be able to restore the lung's immune response," said Tom Wilkinson, professor or respiratory medicine at the University of Southampton.

 

He said the trial showed SNG001 was effective in "enhancing protection, accelerating recover and countering the impact of SARS-CoV-2 virus."

 

There are currently a number of treatments available for patients hospitalised with COVID-19.

 

Last month a Britain-based team of researchers lead by the University of Oxford announced they had successfully reduced the risk of death among seriously ill patients by administering the commonly available steroid dexamethasone.

 

Several countries have also issued the emergency authorisation for treatment with anti-viral remdesivir.
