Leaked Docs Show DHS Is Afraid That Masks Will Make Facial Recognition Useless

 

People say masks are just a way for the government to control you, when in actuality it's making their control more difficult.

 

As the general public in the United States argues about whether or not we should be wearing masks to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, law enforcement officials are concerned that facial recognition software could be thwarted, and possibly even broken by people wearing masks.

 

In a collection of law enforcement documents released by Blueleaks, researchers found a Department of Homeland Security intelligence memo where the agency expressed concern about the potential problems that mask-wearing could cause for facial recognition technology.

 

The note, which was published on May 22nd, discussed what the agency described as β€œthe potential impacts that widespread use of protective masks could have on security operations that incorporate face recognition systems β€” such as video cameras, image processing hardware and software, and image recognition algorithms β€” to monitor public spaces during the ongoing Covid-19 public health emergency and in the months after the pandemic subsides.”

 

The memo went on to suggest that, β€œviolent extremists and other criminals who have historically maintained an interest in avoiding face recognition are likely to opportunistically seize upon public safety measures recommending the wearing of face masks to hinder the effectiveness of face recognition systems in public spaces by security partners.”

 

The agency admitted that its concerns were based on the fact that activists have traditionally expressed desires to thwart facial recognition, and not on any recent events during the ongoing protests. The report concluded that facial recognition could become increasingly worthless if mask-wearing becomes normalized.

 

β€œWe assess face recognition systems used to support security operations in public spaces will be less effective while widespread public use of facemasks, including partial and full face covering, is practiced by the public to limit the spread of Covid-19,” the report stated.

 

Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection, which uses facial recognition screening on international travelers, has also claimed that its technology works on masked faces.

 

In recent months, some companies have claimed that they are developing facial recognition technology that will work with masks. However, facial recognition doesn’t even work that well under normal circumstances, so it is hard to imagine a working system for masked faces.

A Michigan school district is facing serious questions after it dismissed a popular teacher and coach for tweeting "Donald Trump is our president," as well as retweeting a post from the president expressing his desire to open schools in the fall.

 

Varsity baseball coach and social studies teacher Justin Kucera was pulled in to a closed-door meeting with his principal and district superintendent after posting the following tweet on July 6:

 

Kucera later the same night retweeted President Trump's call to open schools in the fall. After the meeting with his superiors, Kucera was given the option to resign or be fired.

 

"I was required to meet with [human resources], the superintendent, and my principal [on July 10]. They initially took my statement on why I tweeted those tweets and they told me they would have a decision about my future employment in the upcoming days," Kucera said. "When they completed the meeting, I was told I had the option to either be fired or resign."

 

Kucera told school officials that while he apologized that his tweet drew so much negative attention, he did not apologize for what he said.

 

While multiple parents and students objected to the firing, still others questioned the administration's consistency in their decision. A kindergarten teacher at Keith Elementary School, part of the same district as Kucera, wrote on Facebook in 2016 that Trump was a "sociopath" and "narcissist." Another teacher who has since retired, Paulette Loe, prompted students to read an Atlantic article detailing "how to beat Trump."

 

Neither of those two teachers were fired.

The 1,000-kilometer river is a major waterway in China, is facing grim flooding risks over the next three days for parts of Shanxi, Henan, Shandong, Anhui, and Jiangsu provinces.

 

Massive flooding upstream on the Yangtze River has also caused concern that the Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric power station in the world, is being pushed to the limit under the strain of massive flows of water.

 

Many regions along the Yangtze River have flooded in the past week due to torrential rains this monsoon season. At the moment, at least 400 Yangtze tributary rivers have overflowed, with at least a hundred dead and 15 million people evacuated from their homes in July alone.

 

Rainfall totals in China are about 12% higher than the last monsoon season. The economic damage is already in the billions of dollars, according to government estimates the previous week.

 

We noted last week rising floodwaters on the Yangtze River had caused fears the Three Gorges Dam has failed to prevent flooding downstream.

 

Officials dismissed these accusations on Monday by saying:

 

"If flooding occurred via heavy rainfall in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the cities surrounding these reaches would have to mainly rely on their own flood drainage facilities," state-owned Three Gorges Corporation said.

 

"Under such circumstances, the Three Gorges Dam can still make a contribution by retaining and impounding water to ease the pressure on those cities."

 

Some media outlets are claiming the massive damn could collapse.

 

Chinese state media has continued to indicate Western media is 'hyping' the dam's collapse.

 

Flooding this week is expected to continue on the Huaihe River with no signs of abating.

The Trump administration indicated this week, however, that it wants compromise legislation being negotiated on Capitol Hill to include some additional unemployment benefits.

 

Sen. Lindsey Graham, who helped lead an unsuccessful effort in March to eliminate the $600 a week federal unemployment benefit, said Tuesday that he got a sympathetic ear from Trump at a Monday evening dinner.

 

β€œWe’re gonna have to reduce the benefit, but have a federal benefit but reduce it,” the South Carolina Republican told McClatchy.

 

Graham argued in March that the extra $600, a benefit that is scheduled to end next week, would reduce motivation for unemployed recipients to look for work.

 

β€œThere are some people who can’t go back to work that need some help on top of state benefits. We’ve just made it so that it’s a disincentive. Just some compromise on the number that will make it easier to reopen the country,” Graham said Tuesday.

 

The fate of the $600 benefit is uncertain. The House extended it through January in legislation it passed in May, but Democratic moderates are pushing a plan that would tie the amount of a benefit to a state’s economic conditions.

 

Republicans have been reluctant to support any benefit. But Graham, like some other Senate Republicans, faces a potentially tough reelection challenge.

The VTOL demonstration determined whether a VTOL aircraft can land on a forward-deployed barge with fuel stored on deck. The demonstration also supported the REALL objective to provide a low-cost logistics solution for the Department of Defense (DOD), as an alternative to placing high-value logistics supply platforms in contested environments.

 

The most recent demonstration marks the first of numerous planned technology and operational demonstrations aimed to transition the REALL capability technology to the warfighter.

 

β€œThis demonstration is another example of what the great people of NAVFAC EXWC provides for our American warfighters,” said Mr. Kail Macias, NAVFAC EXWC Technical Director. β€œSpeed and agility enable our forces to win the fight. The success of REALL is a tribute to the hard work and collaboration across DOD.”

 

The VTOL demonstration consisted of one MH-60M Blackhawk helicopterβ€”provided by the U.S. Special Operations Aviation Command, Systems Integration Management Officeβ€”that landed on the Improved Navy Lighterage System (INLS). The INLS is outfitted to simulate a refueling evolution; INLS systems were provided by Amphibious Construction Battalion Two.

 

β€œThe INLS Roll-on/Roll-off Discharge Facility (RRDF) is a modular system and is traditionally designed to facilitate movement of rolling stock from ship to shore platforms,” said Lt. Cmdr. Robert Leftwich, Bravo Company Commander, Amphibious Construction Battalion 2. β€œIt is a robust and highly capable platform suitable for other uses. Incorporating this legacy system into emergent needs enables more resiliency and responsiveness.”

 

The successful VTOL demonstration further advances the National Defense Strategy's modernization priority on forward force maneuver and posture resilience.

 

β€œAs the lead Combatant Command sponsor and warfighter representative for the REALL project, USCENTCOM’s goal was to demonstrate a littoral logistics sustainment capability for fuel distribution and logistics nodes in support of emerging operational concepts,” Said Thomas Smith, CENTCOM J8-ST Chief Science Advisor for Advanced Concepts.”

 

Looking onward, REALL will be further vetted, with the end goal of providing fuel, water, food and other supplies to vertical take-off and landing aircraft and seaborne vessels for logistics operations required by the Naval Concept of Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations.

I’ve been hesitant to share my story, because It’s not over yet and to be honest I feel like I’m living in a nightmare that I’ll never wake up from..

 

As you know I went into the hospital on June 29th for pre term labor, they stopped the labor, tested me for covid with the rapid quick test (negative) and sent me home the next afternoon. I go home, and everything is fine, I carry on with my every day life like normal.

 

2:30 am July 11th, I woke up in bed, in excruciating pain, and went straight to the hospital. They came in and told me my placenta was detaching and they wanted to do a c section right then, they also said they needed to do another Rapid Covid test even tho I was negative on the 29th. 40 minutes later they come to take me back to the OR and say β€œby the way, you’re covid positive” sooo here I am, in complete shock, going into surgery that I’m already terrified of, super confused how in the hell im β€œcovid positive”

 

They do the surgery, Elsie was born first, and Aria 3 minutes later. I never seen them. They would not hold them up so I could look at them not even for a second. They took them away and transferred them to Dayton Children’s. After my surgery I was told that the rapid covid tests are not accurate and throw a lot of false positives. They suggested I take the confirmation test to prove I don’t have covid and said as soon as those results were negative, I could see my babies. If I refused the confirmation test, I would not be allowed to see my babies at allll…..so I take the test.

 

The next morning, my nurse comes in to tell me the confirmation test was positive as well, so now I have two postive covid tests. So now they have to test my babies for covid, TWICE…..two days in a row….both of my babies are negative. I am not sick, I have no fever, no body aches, I feel great…..NEVER HAD ANY SYMPTOMS

 

Today is July 16th…my babies were born on the 11th, and me and their dad still have NOT seen them. Even with a negative test their dad is not allowed to see them until he has a second negative test on July 20th and then they’ll discuss allowing us to see our babies MAYBE on July 22nd.

 

My babies are PERFECTLY fine. They are so healthy and strong and perfect. They need a little help eating at the moment because they’re still a little small, but that’s it.

 

So here we are sitting in our home, feeling perfectly normal and healthy, being told were not allowed to see our babies. I literally watch my babies from a live stream to my phone..with no idea when I’ll ever see them.

 

Idk what your thoughts are on covid, I don’t even know what my thoughts are anymore, but please believe when it comes to this shit we have absolutely NOOO rights and NOOOO say over our selves or our children. Obviously I do not want to infect my babies with this…I would never want to jeopardize their health but I feel fine, how am I even positive?! but anyone who is pregnant or about to give birth PLEASE KEEEEP ME IN MIND! IF YOU COME BACK POSITIVE YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY SAY ON WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR BABY. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. My entire house is quarantined to separate bedrooms, were living off of Instacart and pictures of the twins, just trying to get by.

 

So if I haven’t responded to your messages or calls, this is why. I am just trying to stay sane and not fall into some deep depression while being locked in my home not allowed to see my own children with no date as to when I ever will. 2020 has been a blast. The memorandum has sparked legal challenges as it follows the Department of Commerce losing a Supreme Court case last year where it attempted to include a question about citizenship status on the 2020 census.

 

Still, the memorandum said that the constitution does not require undocumented immigrants to be counted for the purpose of apportionment of the House of Representatives.

Regarding the media flatulence over "militarized" appearance of law enforcement involved in policing the insurrection (because, dammit, that is exactly what it is) in Portland and possibly other places in the near future, I say as a former member of a major metro command staff…

 

Give the people what they want. After all, they asked for it.

 

It is, of course, unreasonable to expect that our officers would go into a situation without the tactical resources, equipment, uniforms that are "militarized" because the situations the LEO's face are precisely the kind of circumstance which justifies the use of that equipment. However, there IS a tactic which will allow the use of tactical teams outfitted with military equipment that does respond both proactively and aggressively to the insurrectionists' plans.

 

How? By use of a multi-pronged counter. First, plainclothes officers dressed (and masked) like the insurrectionists enter from a tactically advantageous position behind or on the flank of the area of action. They should be armored and armed with light weapons (mace, batons, pistols) and carrying plenty of flexcuffs. Their plainclothes should be altered to the extent that they can uncover a clear indicator that they are police at the last second. The plainclothes officers move in from behind at the same time as the tactical teams move from other positions, and a third team of uniformed officers move into perimeter positions, some of whom will deploy loudspeakers which broadcast (at a very high volume so no one can miss it) the fact that Federal officers are now engaged in lawful arrest of people suspected of participating in the commission of Federal crimes.

 

The "presence" of uniformed police will make clear that the officers in tactical gear are involved in the takedown, and the presence of "infiltrators" will create doubt, distrust and confusion among the insurrectionists. At a minimum this should force them to change tactics (which you should be able to foresee and counter, if your folks are thinking about it.)

Senior FBI Intel Analyst Admitted To Viewing Porn Of Girls As Young As 9 Years Old

A senior FBI intelligence analyst admitted during a polygraph test that he viewed child pornography of girls as young as nine years old, according to a report of the investigation obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

 

The analyst, who is not identified in the report, was fired from the FBI, but the Justice Department and its child exploitation unit declined to file criminal charges against him.

 

The report goes into greater detail about the investigation into the analyst than did a summary of the probe released by the Justice Department’s inspector general in April.

 

That summary said that the supervisory intelligence analyst (SIA) admitted to viewing and downloading child pornography several years earlier, but did not give any other details about the nature of the content.

 

The investigative report, which the DCNF obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, paints a more disturbing picture of the analyst’s activities.

 

The analyst admitted during a routine counterintelligence polygraph that β€œviewing and downloading [child pornography] of girls ranging in age between 9 and 17,” the report said.

 

The analyst initially said he preferred pornography of girls between 15-17, before eventually acknowledging to having a preference for images of girls as young as 9 years old, and those β€œjust starting to show signs of maturation,” according to the report.

 

The analyst β€œadmitted to masturbating” to child pornography, said the report, which is dated Feb. 21.

 

The report said that the polygraph examiner conducted an interview with the analyst after he showed countermeasures, which are tactics intended to cheat a polygraph test.

 

The analyst consented to allowing the FBI analyze his computers and phone. The FBI found 183 images of suspected pornography on the analyst’s computers and phone, but none were of underage girls, the report said.

 

The report said that investigators with the inspector general’s office substantiated that the analyst knowingly possessed child pornography, a felony violation, but the Justice Department and its Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section declined prosecution.

 

No identifying details of the SIA are included in the report. His position as a top intelligence analyst would suggest he worked for years at the bureau.

 

The FBI did not respond to requests for comment about the report, or the SIA’s identity.

Twitter announced on Tuesday it has begun taking sweeping actions to limit the reach of QAnon content and banned many of the conspiracy theory's followers due to ongoing problems with harassment and the dissemination of misinformation.

 

Twitter will stop recommending accounts and content related to QAnon, including in email, push, and follow recommendations and will take steps to limit content circulation in places like trends and search. This action will impact approximately 150,000 accounts, according to a spokesperson, who asked to remain unnamed due to concerns about the targeted harassment of social media employees.

 

The Twitter spokesperson also said the company had taken down more than 7,000 QAnon accounts in the last couple weeks for breaking its rules on targeted harassment as part of its new policy.

 

The sweeping enforcement action will ban QAnon-related terms from appearing in trending topics and its search feature, ban known QAnon-related URLs, and ban β€œswarming” of victims who are baselessly targeted by coordinated harassment campaigns pushed by its followers.

 

The spokesperson said while the targeted enforcement against QAnon fell under Twitter’s existing platform manipulation rules, its classification of QAnon as coordinated harmful activity was a new designation. The spokesperson said Twitter was taking action now because of an escalating degree of harm associated with the conspiracy theory.

 

Twitter plans to permanently suspend accounts that violate existing policies around platform manipulation, ban evasion and operate multiple accounts, behaviors commonly seen used by QAnon accounts, the spokesperson said. Twitter began blocking QAnon websites last week and will continue to block the distribution of QAnon-related URLs, the spokesperson said.

 

QAnon is a baseless right-wing conspiracy theory that centers around the belief that an anonymous tipster is revealing how President Donald Trump is leading a secret war against a so-called Deep State β€” a collection of political, business and Hollywood elites who worship Satan and abuse and murder children. The conspiracy theory draws its roots from Pizzagate, which claimed Hillary Clinton ran a pedophile ring outside of a Washington D.C. pizza shop.

ome QAnon supporters have also become more organized and aggressive in attacking celebrities. QAnon followers frequently comb through social media posts and Instagram pictures of Trump’s famous political opponents, intentionally misinterpreting benign photos as proof the celebrities are eating children. The followers then target those celebrities with harassment campaigns, coordinated by influencers in the QAnon community on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

 

TV personality and author Chrissy Teigen has been a constant target of harassment by QAnon and Pizzagate accounts in recent weeks. The harassment campaign has since targeted friends in her life, some of whom are private figures, who have had their Instagram accounts swarmed by conspiracy theorists posting violent threats.

 

This type of harassment campaign is known as β€œswarming” or β€œbrigading,” and Twitter said those swarms will no longer be allowed on the platform. Twitter will ban users who threaten users during QAnon-related swarms, and limit the reach and search visibility of those who participate in them.

 

A Twitter spokesperson said this sort of anti-harassment policy could apply to other groups that are primarily motivated by targeted harassment in the future.

 

Earlier this month, QAnon conspiracy theorists falsely claimed on Twitter, Reddit, and TikTok that the furniture company Wayfair was shipping trafficked children because price glitches raised the price of pillows and cabinets to tens of thousands of dollars. The company’s name was the top trend on Twitter in the United States on July 10 as Twitter users posted links to expensive furniture.

 

The company released a statement reiterating that some cabinets were appropriately priced, while a glitch affected the price of the cost of some personalized pillows.

 

Still, the conspiracy theory has continued to rage on TikTok among some users who did not know it was initially posited by a QAnon influencer on Twitter.

 

Reddit has similarly banned the process of β€œbrigading,” where users of one community target another community with harassment in a coordinated fashion, on its service.
