Austin Tx anon here. Hello faggots!

 

Finally got power back after 58 hrs of no heat, hot water, cell service, WiFi. Still having trouble with hot water returning and water pressure.

 

We feel lucky because we were able to manually adjusted a gas fireplace with a battery pack that requires electricity to open and ignite the gas flu valve. We also have ski gear to keep warm and wore it 24/7. Plus we have guns, tactical and portable lights, food and plenty of water. We were handy in helping others on our street who needed help. Thank God for masculine toxicity husbands! Ha!

 

Felt like we were camping inside our home which we temped via high quality food thermometers at 50-55 degrees. Miserable to be cold that long but survivable. Weed and champagne helped at night.

 

Feel bad for many here who don’t have fireplaces or don’t have ability to light their gas fireplaces and may not have the warm clothing.

 

Have friends/family who live in outside areas of ATX and they have been on rotating power. Few peeps seem to be immune to the outages unless you live on a hospital or other urgent need grid.

He wasn't "the famous guy"

– just one of the most easily-approachable cool guys - ever.

 

Funny, this is EXACTLY what I'd consistently heard from pals who'd worked events at Mar a Lago regarding one Donald J. Trump. No lie. This was circa 20 years ago.

For several months a few years back I used a Mr. Coffee to cook with. Ramen. Canned soup. Sandwiches heated directly on the warming plate.

Not exactly haute cuisine, but I had enough. Since it was winter, I could keep cold stuff on the window ledge in an unheated Florida room. Milk was good for 3-4 days. Did most of my laundry in the bathroom sink. Coffee was too expensive, so I made tea and reused the hell out of the bag. Read my Bible a lot. Kept working and looking for a better job. TX anon. We have ranch in the Hill Country. We have show horses with one little filly that was recently born in a Petrie dish. Sire and dam too famous to take a risk with normal breeding. Egg from mom and straw of semen from father. We have goats, and chickens. Right now I have 40 baby chicks in my laundry room because power is out and that means no heat lamps in the barn for them. I have three 100 lb dogs that decided tonight was a great night to hunt and kill an armadillo. They are covered with mud and their shower in the laundry room is not working. They are in the laundry room with the baby chicks. We have not had power since 3 today. It is cold in the house. We have no water as it comes from a well pump that works with electricity.

 

I am worried sick about my livestock. The water trickle is not getting to their troughs so the water will freeze. We have over 4 inches of snow on the ground and there almost no food at Walmart or HEB. We do have water in the bathtub.

 

Thank god, I am a food hoarder and a prepper (3mons supply meals). People around here are worried about their families making it without the water and power while freezing in their homes.

 

There are a lot of poor people suffering in Texas right now. We should never had such horrible ERCOT service as we being known an oil and gas state. Shame on our leaders who were not prepared for this. There will be hell to pay when this is over. Hopefully, many bigwigs will lose their jobs because of their ineptness.

The White House has confirmed President Joe Biden's support for studying reparations, boosting a push in Congress to seek β€œappropriate remedies” for slavery and discrimination against black Americans dating from 1619 to today.

Ever heard of Enigma in WWII (not the monk chant band from the 90s)? Britain had cracked the German Enigma code (actually they had a captured machine) but could not always act on the intel, or the Germans would know the allies had cracked the code. Sure, the British always looked for plausible corroborating evidence they could act on in order to prevent allied casualties but when they couldn’t, allied soldiers and civilians died. The greater good was that the British knew they'd have advance notice of German plans and would potentially save more lives by keeping silent.

There is a runaway trolley barrelling down the railway tracks. Ahead, on the tracks, there are five people tied up and unable to move. The trolley is headed straight for them. You are standing some distance off in the train yard, next to a lever. If you pull this lever, the trolley will switch to a different set of tracks. Understanding The Dangers Of Innovation Zones And Smart Cities

 

During his State of the State address in mid-January, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak noted that the state is suffering because of the COVID-19 restrictions and the effect on tourism. Sisolak called on the launch of β€œInnovation Zones”, a plan aimed at bringing companies working on β€œgroundbreaking technologies” to Nevada and turning the state into the β€œepicenter of this emerging industry and creating the high paying jobs and revenue that go with it.” However, in these Innovation Zones, corporations are given the power to collect taxes, and essentially, operate as a quasi-independent government.

 

While the full plan for the Innovation Zones has yet to be released, The Las Vegas Review-Journal obtained a draft copy of proposed legislation which would grant tech corporations previously unheard of powers within the jurisdiction of these zones. The draft of the legislation states that traditional local governments are β€œinadequate alone to provide the flexibility and resources conducive to making the State a leader in attracting and retaining new forms and types of businesses and fostering economic development in emerging technologies and innovative industries.” In response, the draft calls for an β€œalternative form of local government”.

 

This β€œalternative form of local government” will be built around the use of innovative technologies, including:

 

Blockchain

Autonomous technology

Internet of Things

Robotics

Artificial intelligence

Wireless technology

Biometrics

Renewable resources

 

While the zones would at first operate under the authority of the county in which they are located, the legislation describes how tech companies could use Innovation Zones to form their own separate government that would act as the equivalent to a county authority. These zones would have the ability to impose taxes, form school districts and local court systems, and provide government services. The zone would have a board of supervisors with the same powers as a board of county commissioners.

 

During his State of the State address, Sisolak noted that Blockchains, LLC was committed to developing a β€œsmart city” east of Reno which would run on blockchain technology. Blockchain technology is essentially a digital ledger that cannot be altered. The concept was first popularized because of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Digital tech experts have been predicting for years that blockchain technology would revolutionize our world by integrating with various industries. Some blockchain enthusiasts believe the technology could remove the need for centralized institutions, like banks and governments. Others worry that the use of blockchain will lead to a future where every interaction is logged on a public blockchain.

 

Blockchains CEO Jeffrey Berns has been promoting his vision of a blockchain smart city since 2018, when the company purchased 67,000 acres of land in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, which also houses Google and Tesla. Berns first revealed his plans for the blockchain city in November 2018 at the Prague Blockchain Week event.

Facebook has made a stunning move to ban publishers and users in Australia from sharing or viewing any news articles on its platform in response to the Morrison government’s proposed media bargaining laws.

 

The bargaining code, which passed through the House of Representatives on Wednesday night, will require social media companies to pay media outlets for using their content. The bill is expected to pass the Senate and become law as early as next week. In a blog post on Thursday (AEDT) Facebook said that it had carried through on the threat made in September after being unable to find a solution in discussions with the Australian government.

 

Content on Facebook pages from news websites such as The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, News Corp newspapers such as The Australian and The Herald Sun and all ABC content were made unavailable to users from early Thursday. Articles published by online youth publication Junkee Media and satirical news websites The Betoota Advocate and The Chaser were also removed. Some Facebook groups run by news outlets have no articles on them.

 

The ban also appears to have struck down the Facebook pages of government agencies, including the Bureau of Meteorology, SA Health, ACT Health and Queensland Health, in a move health experts have criticized givenAustralia is preparing to begin its COVID-19 vaccination program next week.

 

William Easton, Facebook’s Australia and New Zealand managing director, said the decision had been made because the proposed code β€œfundamentally misunderstands the relationship between our platform and publishers who use it to share news content.”

 

β€œIt has left us facing a stark choice: attempt to comply with a law that ignores the realities of this relationship, or stop allowing news content on our services in Australia. With a heavy heart, we are choosing the latter,” Mr Easton said in company’s blog.

 

β€œUnfortunately, this means people and news organizations in Australia are now restricted from posting news links and sharing or viewing Australian and international news content on Facebook.”

 

Responding to Facebook’s announcement on Thursday morning, Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said the government would not back down from legislating the code.

 

β€œWe’ll be maintaining the path that we’ve been following,” Mr Fletcher told 2GB radio.

 

He said Facebook’s decision to block authoritative news sources would further expose the company to the spread of misinformation and unverified content.

 

β€œIt’s very important that we have a diverse and well-resourced news media sector in Australia, that’s a critical part of our democracy. Now, that may not seem important to a company in Silicon Valley, but it’s very important to the Australian government and the Australian people,” Mr Fletcher said.

 

β€œThey are effectively saying to Australians if you’re looking for reliable news Facebook is not the place to look for it.”

 

Facebook has announced it will restrict people and publishers in Australia sharing or viewing Australian and international news content.

 

Labor leader Anthony Albanese described Facebook’s actions as β€œreprehensible”.

 

The ban appears to have come into effect for at least some users, who are now unable to post links to Australian news articles on their Facebook pages or to see past articles posted by major media companies. Mr Easton’s blog said that not only are Australian outlets restricted from sharing content on Facebook Pages but international articles from newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times cannot be viewed or reposted by Australian users.

The WEF Agenda Behind Modi Farm Reform

 

In September 2021 the UN will hold a Food Systems Summit. The aim will be to reshape world agriculture and food production in the context of the Malthusian UN Agenda 2030 β€œsustainable agriculture” goals. The recent radical farm laws from the government of Narenda Modi in India are part of the same global agenda, and it’s all not good.

 

In Modi’s India, farmers have been in massive protest since three new farm laws were rushed through Parliament last September. The Modi reforms were motivated by a well-organized effort of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and its New Vision for Agriculture, part of Klaus Schwab’s Great Reset, the corporate side of the UN Agenda 2030.

 

Modi Shock Therapy

 

In September, 2020 in a rushed Parliamentary voice vote, rather than a duly-registered formal vote, and reportedly with no prior consultation with Indian farmer unions or organizations, the government of Prime Minister Narenda Modi passed three new laws radically deregulating India’s agriculture. That has sparked months of national farmer protest and nationwide strikes.The protests which are spreading across all India, demands repeal of the three laws.

 

In effect the laws end restrictions on large corporations’ buying land and stockpiling commodities to control farmer prices. They also allow large multinational businesses to bypass local or regional state markets where farmers’ produce is normally sold at guaranteed prices, and allows business to strike direct deals with farmers. This all will result in the ruin of an estimated tens millions of marginal or smallholder farmers and small middlemen in India’s fragile food chain.

 

The new Modi laws are measures the IMF and World Bank have been demanding since the early 1990s to bring Indian agriculture and farming into the corporate agribusiness model pioneered in the USA by the Rockefeller Foundation decades ago.Until now no Indian government has been willing to attack the farmers, the country’s largest population group, many of whom are on tiny plots or bare subsistence. Modi’s argument is that by changing the present system, Indian farmers could β€œdouble” income by 2022, an unproven,dubious claim. It allows corporations to buy farm land for the first time nationally so large companies, food processing firms, and exporters can invest in the farm sector.Against them a small farmer has no chance. Who’s behind the radical push? Here we find the WEF and the Gates Foundation’s radical globalized agriculture agenda.

 

WEF and the Corporativists

 

The laws are a direct result of several years’ effort of the World Economic Forum and its New Vision for Agriculture (NVA) initiative. For more than 12 years the WEF and its NVA has pushed a corporate model in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The β€œbig target” has been India, where resistance to corporate takeover of agriculture has been fierce ever since the failed 1960’s Green Revolution of the Rockefeller Foundation. For the WEF Great Reset, better known as the UN Agenda 2030 for β€œsustainable agriculture,” India’s traditional farm and food system must be broken. Its smallholder family farmers must be forced to sell to large agribusiness conglomerates and regional or state-level protections for those farmers eliminated. It will be β€œsustainable,” not for the small farmers, but rather the giant agribusiness groups.

 

To advance that agenda the WEF created a powerful group of corporate and government interests called the NVA India Business Council. Its website at the homepage of the WEF states, β€œThe NVA India Business Council serves as an informal, high-level leadership group to champion private sector collaboration and investment to drive sustainable agricultural growth in India.” An idea what they mean by β€œsustainable”is found in their membership.

 

The WEF’s NVA India Business Council in 2017 included Bayer CropScience, one of the world’s largest purveyors of agriculture pesticides andnow,of Monsanto GMO seeds; Cargill India Pvt.of the giant US grain company; Dow AgroSciences, GMO seed and pesticide producer;GMO and agrichemical firm DuPont;grain cartel giant Louis Dreyfus Company; Wal-Mart India; India Mahindra & Mahindra (world’s largest tractor maker); Nestle India Ltd; PepsiCo India; Rabobank International; State Bank of India; Swiss Re Services, the world’s largest re-insurer; India Private Limited, a chemicals maker;and the Adani Group of Gautam Adani,the second richest man in India and major financier of Modi’s BJP party. Notice the absence of any Indian farmer organizations.

Nine’s outgoing chief executive Hugh Marks said Facebook’s decision was β€œa real shock” and showed why the code was needed.

 

β€œWe thought we were having constructive discussions towards an outcome that was going to be positive for all of us. It seems that behind those discussions all the time was Facebook’s intent at the end of the day to take this action, maybe even despite an agreement with us,” Mr Marks told 2GB radio.

 

β€œThey are trying to prove how powerful they are. They’ve certainly proven that. The purpose of the legislation is actually trying to deal with that power, so they are kicking a massive own goal.”

 

ABC’s managing director David Anderson said the national broadcaster was affected and was discussing the change with Facebook.

 

An internal note to News Corp staff sent by executive chairman Michael Miller said Facebook’s move would encourage fake news to be spread online.

 

β€œYou will have also seen this morning that Facebook has used its powers to change its algorithms in a way that punishes Australian news media,” Mr Miller said in the email, seen by The Herald and Age.

 

β€œThis is a move that clearly encourages fake news over reliable news and demonstrates the extraordinary market power Facebook holds.While we are disappointed in Facebook’s moves today, we have had months of discussions with them to date, and we will continue to do so.”

Mr Frydenberg said on Thursday morning he had spoken to Mr Zuckerberg who had raised further issues with the government’s newly proposed laws.

 

β€œYes there are some differences, but let’s see if we can work them through,” Mr Frydenberg said.

 

Industry sources familiar with the government’s discussions with Facebook said Mr Frydenberg was not given any meaningful notice about Facebook’s plans to follow through with its threat.

 

News outlets with a relationship with Facebook and which post articles in their newsfeed were informed early on Thursday morning that their content would be affected.

 

A note sent by Facebook Australia and New Zealand’s head of news partnerships Andrew Hunter, seen by The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, said the tech platform was β€œdisappointed” that it had to follow through with its threat and that it would engage the news outlets further to discuss the changes in the coming days.

 

Facebook was in talks with news outlets such as Nine Entertainment Co, owner of this masthead, and News Corp Australia about payment for their content over the past two weeks.

 

But those talks stalled in the past five days because of several sticking points, including explicit provisions in Facebook’s contracts that would allow it to blow up any deal if new laws were legislated. The main reason for this is that failure to comply with the code could cost Facebook fines of up to 10 per cent of their local revenue.

 

Mr Easton said the government’s proposed legislation β€œseeks to penalise Facebook for content it didn’t take or ask for”.

 

β€œThis legislation sets a precedent where the government decides who enters into these news content agreements, and ultimately, how much the party that already receives value from the free service gets paid,” he said.

 

Facebook’s stance represents a different approach to search giant Google, which had also threatened to exit Australia. Google has since struck multi-million dollar deals with major Australian publishers for the use of their content.

States that imposed lockdown have more COVID-19 deaths per million compared to no-lockdown states

 

A recent analysis of public data showed that the states that imposed a lockdown over the fall and winter because of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic have 5.6 percent more deaths per million compared to the 11 states that did not impose a lockdown.

 

The states that did not impose a lockdown were Texas, Florida, North Dakota, South Dakota, Arkansas, Iowa, South Carolina, Georgia, Wyoming, Nebraska and Utah.

 

U.K.-based website Lockdown Sceptics quickly pointed out that the models predicting massive death tolls on states not imposing a lockdown because of the pandemic proved to be wrong.

 

The website was apparently referring to a model published last year by Neil Ferguson of Imperial College of London, which predicted 2.2 million American deaths from COVID-19. White House coronavirus advisers, Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx, presented Ferguson’s model to then President Donald Trump.

 

This prompted Trump to release a coronavirus guideline, also known as β€œ15 Days to Slow the Spread,” which encouraged school operations to stop and restaurants, bars and other outdoor venues where groups of people congregate to close.

 

β€œIf the doomsday models are correct, why don’t the bars for those (11) states clearly stand out from the bars of the lockdown states?” the website asked. β€œFurthermore, why are the top five states for COVID deaths lockdown states?”

 

Lockdown Sceptics was referring to the top five states with the most number of deaths per million – New Jersey, New York Massachusetts, Mississippi and Rhode Island. Those states have imposed winter lockdown.

 

β€œIf anything this suggests lockdown made things worse. At any rate, there’s no sign it helped,” the website said.

 

The website also challenged lockdown proponents to put their models to test in the real world.

A furious Josh Frydenberg has insisted the Australian government will stick to its guns, and won’t cave under Facebook’s bullying tactics.

The stunning decision was made in retaliation to Australia’s proposed new Media Bargaining law, with the federal government pushing forward with a plan to force social media giants to pay for news content.

β€œThis digital code, this new media bargaining code, is very important micro-economic reform. It’s one that was initiated by the Prime Minister when he was then treasurer,” he said.

WA Opposition Leader Zak Kirkup's Facebook page blocked ahead of election

 

The Facebook page of Western Australia's opposition leader has been blocked, three weeks ahead of the state election.

But while Zak Kirkup's page has been caught up in the Facebook news ban in Australia, Premier Mark McGowan's page remains active.

Mr Kirkup will challenge Mr McGowan in the March 13 poll.

 

Government organisations in Australia including emergency services and weather forecasters have also had their pages removed by Facebook after the social media giant slapped a ban on Australian users and publishers from sharing or viewing news content.

Fire and Rescue NSW, Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA, South Australia Health, Queensland Health have all had their pages wiped this morning.

 

However, Facebook said it will "reverse any pages that are inadvertently impacted."

"The actions we're taking are focused on restricting publishers and people in Australia from sharing or viewing Australian and international news content.

"As the law does not provide clear guidance on the definition of news content, we have taken a broad definition in order to respect the law as drafted," it said in a statement.

Mr Kirkup wrote on Twitter: "Alright, time to reactivate my MySpace account."

Wind companies in Texas made a financial decision not to invest in winterized turbines. Price difference unknown from standard blades. Like flying a plane with no prop deice, shit gets out of balance, vibrations tear up gearboxes, mounts, etc.

Several things could have been done but weren't. Freezing of NG pipelines non winterized, cooling lines frozen ( crews should have had that shit done during PM or downtime) Some plants, at least what anon heard as second hand, will feign a "failure" to bring back up during this type weather when price per MW greatly exceeds true cost of generation. Banks have an interest in financial derivatives related to this as well.

Biden has tapped Merrick Garland, a Jewish judge, to be his attorney general.

 

President Joe Biden, saying domestic terrorism was the β€œgreatest threat” in America and white supremacists are the β€œmost dangerous people,” pledged to focus his Justice Department on the rise of white supremacy.

Biden, in Milwaukee on Tuesday at his first town hall as president, fielded a question from Joel Berkowitz, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, about what Berkowitz termed the β€œongoing threat” from white supremacists in the wake of the deadly Jan. 6 raid on the US Capitol. A number of far-right groups and figures were involved in the insurrection.

 

β€œI got involved in politics to begin with because of civil rights and opposition to white supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, and the most dangerous people in America continue to exist,” Biden said on the CNN-sponsored event, which was hosted by Anderson Cooper. β€œThat is the greatest threat to terror in America, domestic terror. And so I would make sure that my Justice Department and the civil rights division is focused heavily on those very folks, and I would make sure that we, in fact, focus on how to deal with the rise of white supremacy.”

Biden has tapped Merrick Garland, a Jewish judge, to be his attorney general.

The president noted reports of more police and military personnel joining white supremacist groups. The Trump administration downplayed the threat of right-wing terrorism, and Biden attacked Donald Trump for what he depicted as his predecessor’s encouragement of far-right groups.

β€œYou may remember, in one of my debates with the former president, I asked him to condemn the Proud Boys and he wouldn’t do it,” Biden said. β€œHe said β€˜Stand by,’ stand ready, or whatever the phrase exactly was.” Trump had told the Proud Boys to β€œstand back and stand by.”

Bantering with Berkowitz, who teaches foreign languages and literature, prior to the question, Biden said he studied French for five years and could not speak it.

β€œI’ll teach you some Yiddish some time. How’s that?” Berkowitz said.

β€œI understand a little bit of Yiddish,” Biden said.

β€œI’m sure you do,” Berkowitz said.

β€œIt would be a shanda if he didn’t,” said Cooper, who like Biden was raised as a Roman Catholic.

Biden’s three children who survived into adulthood married Jews, making him a grandfather to several Jewish grandchildren. (Biden’s first wife and infant daughter were killed in a car accident in 1972.)

Liberal education collective claims asking students to show work is racist

 

A radical new push to purge math curricula of allegedly racist practices like showing your work and finding the correct answer is bankrolled by one of the nation's most prominent nonprofits: the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

 

The Gates Foundation is the only donor mentioned on the homepage of A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction, a group of 25 education organizations whose curriculum states that asking students to show their work and find the right answer is an inherently racist practice.

 

Over the past decade, the Gates Foundation has given upward of $140 million to some of the groups behind Pathway, whose antiracist resources are the basis for a new teacher training course offered by the Oregon Department of Education.

 

The Education Trust, a California-based group that promoted the September release of Pathway's antiracist "toolkit," has received $86 million from the Gates Foundation, including a $3.6 million grant awarded in June.

 

Teach Plus, another group dedicated to creating an antiracist culture in K-12 schools, has received more than $27 million from the Gates Foundation. The group's board members include former Democratic congressman George Miller and Obama-era secretary of education John King Jr.β€”who is also the president of The Education Trust.

 

WestEd, a nonprofit committed to dismantling "systemic barriers" in schools, has received more than $35 million from the Gates Foundation since 2009. UnboundEd, an organization dedicated to helping teachers "disrupt systemic racism" in the classroom, has received nearly $14 million in grants from the Gates Foundation since 2015.

 

The Gates Foundation has given smaller sums to other groups behind the Pathway, the latest attempt to bring critical race theoryβ€”the idea that American political and economic institutions are inherently racistβ€”into schools.

 

Unique about Pathway is its focus on mathematics. The group's first guidebook, "Dismantling Racism in Mathematics Instruction," asks teachers to observe how math "is used to uphold capitalist, imperialist, and racist views." Worksheets included in the toolkit ask teachers to create a list of antiracist qualities to cultivate during the school year.

 

The program also sets monthly goals. In November, educators must review how they "authentically" include minority and multilingual students in math class. In May, teachers will evaluate how they "dismantle power structures in the classroom."
