PATRICK, Nev. (KOLO) - Nevada State Police are investigating a wrong-way crash that caused a major traffic backup on I-80 east of Sparks Thursday morning and injured two people.

 

It was reported around 6 a.m. March 10, 2022 in Patrick.

 

Four vehicles were involved in the crash. One person sustained critical injuries, according to troopers. Another person was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.

 

The crash snarled traffic for more than three hours while the scene was cleared.

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - Nevada State Police are investigating a crash along I-80 east of Sparks involving a wrong-way driver.

 

It was reported Friday, March 11, 2022 just before 7 a.m. near Patrick.

 

Nevada Highway Patrol said a white vehicle was traveling the wrong way and hit a semi truck. Minor injuries were reported.

 

The crash blocked westbound lanes and one eastbound lane.

 

This is the second crash in that area involving a wrong-way driver. On Thursday, a wrong-way driver was involved in a crash that sent two people to a hospital and snarled traffic along I-80 for hours.

Putin: Bombed Hospital Was Really Bioweapon Storage Facility

 

Tales of the Russian military indiscriminately bombing a maternity ward brimming with civilians and pregnant women are either exaggerated or outright inaccurate, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on a Wednesday evening telephone call with Donald Trump.

 

A Mar-a-Lago source privy to that call told Real Raw News that, according to Putin, the maternity and childrenโ€™s hospital in southern Ukraine was a bioweapon storage facility that held weaponized smallpox and other lethal pathogens. Putin insisted Zelenskyy knew of the toxins and said heโ€™d given the Ukrainian president a stern admonition in advance of the strike: Evacuate your people, but donโ€™t touch the weapons, because weโ€™ll be watching.

 

โ€œPutin told Trump that Zelenskyy got 24-hour notice and could have easily cleared the ward. True or not, Putin says he would have guaranteed patients safe passage to a nearby hospital.โ€

 

His voice quavering, Putin also told Trump that he regretted loss of life, but said Zelenskyy was responsible because he cowardly hid weapons of mass destruction behind human shields. Moreover, Putin refuted a Mariupol city council statement claiming that Russian bombs had obliterated not only the hospital but also several city blocks.

 

โ€œFive people died, President Trump, and, yes, that is regrettable. But our strikes were surgical. Reports placed more than 200 people in the building. If I wanted to kill Ukrainians, your Western news would report 200 dead, not five people. Zelenskyy refused to have those people evacuated, and we told him. Its on his head, not mine. This filth care about protecting those that pay him, not civilian lives,โ€ Putin reportedly said to Trump.

 

When Trump asked if reports of thermobaric weapons being deployed were correct, Putin said, โ€œYes, I had no choice. We must use ordnance that burns hot enough to destroy pathogen. Conventional bombs do not do that, President Trump. But I was careful as could be.โ€

 

The biologic weapons, Putin added, had been stored unsafely and haphazardly in standard vaccine freezers on a floor beneath the maternity ward. Consequently, one misstep could have caused hundreds of thousands of preventable fatalities.

 

Ebola, smallpox, plagueโ€”the rogueโ€™s gallery of highly infectious deadly pathogens is frighteningly long and their ability to cause disaster is great, which is why BSL-4 pathogens are typically studied under scrutiny and within the tightly controlled confines of a biosafety level 4 (BSL4) facility.

Russia should arm its allies in the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk with weapons captured from the Ukrainian armed forces, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu suggested on Friday. The Donbass forces would put to good use the arms, including West-supplied missiles, the official told the Security Council of Russia.

 

โ€œWe have accumulated plenty of Ukrainian weapons, including tanks, armored vehicles, all kinds of small arms in large quantities, [and] artillery. The restrictions include travel bans and UK asset freezes for all the affected lawmakers, should they have bank accounts or property under Londonโ€™s jurisdiction. It brings the number of UK-sanctioned Russian MPs to 400, or almost 90% of the State Dumaโ€™s total of 450 seats. The US and the EU have already placed restrictions on other Russian lawmakers, alongside severe sanctions on the countryโ€™s financial sector and its senior officials.

Russia Allows Chinese Banks To Buy Oil Without Letters Of Credit To Bypass Western Sanctions

 

One week ago, Shell quietly purchased Russian seaborne crude (at a record discount of $28.50) amid a self-imposed boycott by most other Western purchasers of Russian energy products, only to spark widespread populist outrage over its indirect funding of the Putin regime and prompting a vow from the largest European energy company to not purchase Russian crude any more. As a result, Moscow has found itself in the crippling position where despite carve outs for its oil exports (Europe has vocally refused to join the US ban of Russian energy exports), not a single western major is willing to buy Russian oil over fears of public backlash, while Chinese banks are reportedly on the fence when it comes to providing letters of credit to shippers seeking to purchase Russian oil, in the process freezing Russia's entire seaborne oil exporting industry.

 

So fast forward to today, when in hopes of short circuiting the Chinese quasi-ban, Russian oil giant Surgutneftegaz (Surgut) has allowed Chinese buyers to receive oil without providing guarantees known as letters of credit (LC) in order to bypass Western sanctions, Reuters reported citing three people with knowledge of the matter said.

 

A letter of credit, which allows 30 days for payment and is backed by a bank, is seen as the strongest guarantee for both sides.

 

The change in terms will allow Surgutneftegaz - which will now face a direct monetary risk that "something might happen" to the uninsured cargo but since it has no other choices it will gladly take it - to continue to sell ESPO Blend crude from the port of Kozmino in Russia's Far East to China, the world's top oil importer. As a reminder, Russian ESPO crude exports - of around 750,000 barrels per day in normal times - provide China's biggest source of spot crude.

 

While China has repeatedly voiced opposition to the sanctions, calling them ineffective and insisting it will maintain normal economic and trade exchanges with Russia, Bloomberg recently reported that Chinese state banks had restricted purchases of Russian commodities and stopped issuing U.S. dollar-denominated letters of credit for purchases of physical Russian commodities ready for export, perhaps out of fear of being seen as violating western sanctions.

 

To get round the restrictions, Chinese companies are using open accounts that allow the customer to buy goods on a deferred payment basis, with a requirement to pay in full up to three days after the cargo is loaded. It was not immediately clear which banks were involved.

 

Reuters also noted that payment in U.S. dollars was still possible during a grace period until June for the implementation of U.S. sanctions on Russia's access to the SWIFT international payment system. It added that arrangements were also being worked out with buyers of Russian Urals crude.

 

Since late February, Surgutneftegaz has failed to award most of the spot tenders for March-loading Urals as potential buyers did not bid after banks halted the issuance of LCs for Russian oil.

The attack by the Shabab, Al Qaedaโ€™s affiliate in East Africa, revealed several glaring security shortfalls, a New York Times investigation found soon after the assault. It also highlighted the U.S. militaryโ€™s limits in Africa, where a lack of intelligence โ€” along with Manda Bayโ€™s reputation as a quiet and unchallenged tourist locale โ€” allowed a lethal strike.

 

The Times investigation found that American commandos took about an hour to respond. Many of the local Kenyan forces assigned to defend the base hid in the grass while U.S. troops and support staff members were corralled into tents with little protection to wait out the battle. Evacuating one of the wounded to a military hospital in Djibouti, about 1,000 miles north, took hours.

Today, we will discuss a set of measures to minimise the consequences of sanctions on the Russian economy and the people of our country.

 

We communicate on these issues almost every day. I just discussed a number of them with the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin: Mr President, colleagues,

 

Mr President, under your instructions, the Government is working to increase the stability of the economy amid the unprecedented increase in external pressure.

 

A special headquarters has been formed, which coordinates the activities of all departments, including at the regional level. We are monitoring the situation practically 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the assistance from business leaders and expert community associations. Steps to protect the most vulnerable areas are being worked through sector by sector so that all aspects of operations in specific sectors and enterprises are taken into account as fully as possible when preparing decisions.

 

Our core goals include protecting the domestic market and ensuring uninterrupted functioning of enterprises by eliminating disruptions in logistics and production chains and, of course, maintaining employment. It is important to help the people and businesses quickly adapt to the changing circumstances.

 

Two sets of draft laws with anti-sanction measures as the top priority, thatโ€™s about 20 draft laws in all, and the Government acts that are necessary to implement them, have been promptly prepared. They include specific proposals for stabilising financial markets, supporting a number of industries, ensuring sustainability of the domestic private sector, and also proposals for the return of capital to Russiaโ€™s jurisdiction.

 

A draft law to prevent manufacturing shutdowns has been prepared. If foreign owners shut down their facilities without reasonable grounds, the Government is proposing the introduction of external management. Depending on the ownerโ€™s decision, this will determine the future of the company. In the process, the key goal will be to maintain profile corporate activities and jobs. Most companies are announcing temporary suspension of operations while preserving jobs and salaries. We will carefully monitor this situation.

 

As for industry-specific decisions, we have prepared a package of measures to help the IT industry on your approval, Mr President. Thus, all relevant companies will be relieved of profit tax liability and inspections by regulatory bodies. Of course, we will continue creating conditions to attract specialists into this sector of the economy.

 

We have proposals on supporting the construction industry as well. We will simplify the drafting of urban development plans and the procedure for holding public hearings on them, as well as registration of rights to facilities already built. We will expedite the allocation of land plots and extend existing lease contracts if necessary. This will allow the industry to maintain a consistent pace.

 

Regarding the interests of transport companies, we will assist airlines in maintaining their fleets of foreign aircraft. We will introduce restrictions on countries that ban our ships from entering their ports. We will try to level out the influence of international companies on the operations of Russian railway transport.

 

The tourist industry will also receive preferences. We will suspend the VAT for companies that build and lease tourist facilities or that subcontract operations to other companies. This will be valid for five years after hotels or other accommodation facilities are put into service, including after a rebuilding. The owners of existing hotels will also be entitled to these benefits. This is how we will support this industry and give it new opportunities for development.

Democrats block bill that would restart Keystone pipeline, boost US energy production

 

House Democrats this week blocked a motion to consider a Republican bill that would reauthorize construction of the TransCanada Keystone pipeline and restart the federal oil leasing program, among other things, in an effort to boost domestic energy production amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Daily Caller reported.

 

The legislation โ€” called the American Energy Independence from Russia Act โ€” was introduced in the House by Energy and Commerce Committee ranking member Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and Natural Resources Committee ranking member Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) on Feb. 28. The bicameral bill was also introduced in the Senate by Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) on March 3.

 

It comes at a time when gas prices are skyrocketing in the U.S. due to private-sector boycotts and a public-sector embargo on imports of Russian oil in response to the country's invasion of Ukraine. The global energy supply disruption has exposed the West's reliance on Russian energy sources and thus renewed calls to bolster American energy independence.

 

Republicans have argued for years that the U.S. should seek energy independence as a matter of national security, and the current conflict with Russia has undoubtedly served to strengthen the argument.

 

Yet, according to the Daily Caller, on Wednesday evening, 219 Democrats in the House voted down a motion to consider the legislation. The Epoch Times reported that a motion to consider the bill was also shot down by Democrats on March 1.

 

The legislation would immediately reauthorize the construction of the Keystone pipeline from Canada to Montana and restart oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters, both of which were suspended by the Biden administration last year.

 

It would also require the Biden administration to submit an energy security plan to Congress within 30 days that would grow Americaโ€™s oil and natural gas production to offset Russian imports.

 

In a joint statement to introduce the legislation, Reps. McMorris Rodgers and Westerman said, "Putin and Russiaโ€™s economy are dependent upon dominating energy production and exporting to other nations. He gains power by doing so, and itโ€™s what funds his military and aggressive behavior. To counter Putin, our bill flips the switch to promote American energy jobs, production, and exports."

 

The president was torched on social media this week after he begged foreign despots and dictators to increase their oil production in response to the global energy crisis rather than unleashing America's energy resources.

 

In a floor speech in support of the bill Wednesday, Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw (Texas) slammed President Joe Biden for his energy policies.

 

"This week our president โ€” our American president โ€” asked Venezuela and Saudi Arabia to increase oil production, asked them to boost their output so that American consumers wouldnโ€™t see a spike in gas prices," Crenshaw said.

 

He added, "Surely, [Biden] knows we can also boost domestic production right here at home. Surely he knows that domestic production supports American jobs, and surely he knows that domestic production is cleaner, by far, than foreign production."

Six spring breakers at a Florida rental home overdosed on fentanyl-laced cocaine, leaving two in critical condition, authorities said Friday.

 

Paramedics responded to a short-term Airbnb rental home Thursday in Wilton Manors and found six people in cardiac arrest from a drug overdose. Two of the victims were listed in critical condition Friday, Wilton Manors police confirmed to The Post.

Kamala Harris Warns Vladimir Putin from Romania: NATO โ€˜Prepared to Actโ€™ if Russia Attacks

 

 

Vice President Kamala Harris warned Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday that NATO was united and willing to defend โ€œevery inchโ€ of their territory.

 

โ€œWe take seriously and are prepared to act on the words we speak when we say, an attack against one is an attack against all,โ€ Harris said during a press conference on Friday in Romania with President Klaus Iohannis.

 

Harris pointed to the 1000 member Stryker squadron deployed to the Eastern front of NATO territory to join 2,000 American troops, who were ready to defend NATO allies.

 

She also noted that to the โ€œhistoric sanctionsโ€ enacted by the United States to level โ€œserious consequences and accountabilityโ€ on Russia for their actions.

 

Harris spoke about the success of the economic sanctions, noting Putin was experiencing โ€œa free fall of the ruble,โ€ a closed Russian stock market, and added, โ€œtheir credit rating is now junk.โ€

 

She reminded Romanians they lived right next to Russia, telling reporters about where they were positioned on a map.

 

Harris said:

 

All you have to do is look at the map and see that where Romania exists geographically, and as is the case for our allies on the eastern flank, that there are potential vulnerabilities, which is why we say very clearly we will dedicate and have been especially enhancing over the last few weeks our support based on their current needs.

 

Harris also previewed future actions the United States was prepared to add to Russiaโ€™s economic pain.

 

โ€œThere will be more announcements about more action that we will take to ensure serious consequence for what is atrocious and outrageous conduct on behalf of the Russian people by Putin,โ€ she said.

 

Harris said her trip to Romania and Poland was an effort to reinforce the Biden administrationโ€™s commitment to the NATO alliance, despite the economic pain felt by Americans at home.

Minister Who Spearheaded Hungaryโ€™s Pro-Family Policies Elected President

 

The Hungarian National Assembly has elected former Family Minister Katalin Novรกk to become the countryโ€™s first-ever female head of state, with Novรกk herself announcing she would pursue a course of peacemaking in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Black & Veatch completed Ukraineโ€™s first Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory in Odessaon time and under budget. The new facility enhances the governmentโ€™s existing disease surveillance systems to detect, report and respond to bioterrorism attacks, epidemics and potential pandemics.

 

The BSL-3 laboratory in Odessa was designed and constructed by Black & Veatch. It is the first BSL-3 laboratory in the region and the first to becommissioned, accredited and operational under the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agencyโ€™s (DTRA) Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP).

 

โ€œCompleting the construction effort under budget definitely exceeded our expectations,โ€ said Doug Gorsline, DTRA BTRP Ukraine Project Manager.

 

Bradley Karn, DTRA BTRP Program Manager, added, โ€œMore important was the quality of the effort. Black & Veatch was able to renovate a decades-old facility into a state-of-the-art diagnostics laboratory that will become the nexus of Ukraineโ€™s biosurveillance network.โ€

 

The BSL-3 laboratory was specifically designed and constructed to support work with especially dangerous pathogens that can be naturally occurring or introduced through a bioterrorism attack. It serves as a central location for research, consolidation and training on the proper handling of dangerous pathogens. The lab also provides the Ukrainian Ministry of Health a safe environment to confirm diagnosis of suspected dangerous pathogens, enhancing public health while deterring bioterrorism.

 

As integrating contractor, Black & Veatch is responsible to DTRA and the Ministry of Health for the full rollout of the BTRP in Ukraine. Black & Veatch is ensuring the missionโ€™s success by training Ukrainian personnel in molecular diagnostics, biosafety, operations and maintenance, and laboratory management techniques. This training, along with three years of gradually decreasing sustainment and transition support, will provide Ukrainian scientists with the necessary resources to manage the BSL-3 laboratory and the Ukrainian biosurveillance system going forward.

How to Destroy Russia. 2019 Rand Corporation Report: โ€œOverextending and Unbalancing Russiaโ€

 

According to their analysts, Russia remains a powerful adversary for the United States in certain fundamental sectors. To handle this opposition, the USA and their allies will have to pursue a joint long-term strategy which exploits Russiaโ€™s vulnerabilities. Rand analysts estimate that Russiaโ€™s greatest vulnerability is that of its economy, due to its heavy dependency on oil and gas exports. The income from these exports can be reduced by strengthening sanctions and increasing the energy exports of the United States. The goal is to oblige Europe to diminish its importation of Russian natural gas, and replace it by liquefied natural gas transported by sea from other countries.

 

Another way of destabilising the Russian economy in the long run is to encourage the emigration of qualified personnel, particularly young Russians with a high level of education.

 

In the ideological and information sectors, it would be necessary to encourage internal contestation and at the same time, to undermine Russiaโ€™s image on the exterior, by excluding it from international forums and boycotting the international sporting events that it organises.

 

In the geopolitical sector, arming Ukraine would enable the USA to exploit the central point of Russiaโ€™s exterior vulnerability, but this would have to be carefully calculated in order to hold Russia under pressure without slipping into a major conflict, which it would win.

 

In the military sector, the USA could enjoy high benefits, with low costs and risks, by increasing the number of land-based troops from the NATO countries working in an anti-Russian function.

 

The USA can enjoy high probabilities of success and high benefits, with moderate risks, especially by investing mainly in strategic bombers and long-range attack missiles directed against Russia.

 

Leaving the INF Treaty and deploying in Europe new intermediate-range nuclear missiles pointed at Russia would lead to high probabilities of success, but would also present high risks.

 

By calibrating each option to gain the desired effect โ€“ conclude the Rand analysts โ€“ Russia would end up by paying the hardest price in a confrontation, but the USA would also have to invest huge resources, which would therefore no longer be available for other objectives. This is also prior warning of a coming major increase in USA/NATO military spending, to the disadvantage of social budgets.

I think, generally speaking, atheists are happier, healthier people that theists. I also think the world be a better, safer place if there were more atheists. You will find evidence and explanations for these opinions on this website and throughout my book.

 

One of the reasons people believe in God is that they are looking for meaning in their lives. Yet the concept of a Godโ€™s existence is not based on any fact; but just tradition and wishful thinking.

 

Nor does a belief in God give anything back that is real. God is the second rate, generic, easy, yet flawed default solution to manโ€™s search for meaning. There are far better ways to find happiness than having a pretend relationship with a non existent deity. Those ways do not rely on unreal fantasies, and do not open up people to exploitation. We all need to discover these ways for ourselves.

 

Atheists are free to find meaning however they choose, without getting caught up in anyone elseโ€™s agenda. If we accept there is no God, we are not throwing anything away, but discovering ourselves, and we break free from corporate control. That is cathartic!

 

If you have been a Christian, and are brave enough to let go of your belief, you will think more clearly, be less opinionated, more accepting of others, and gentler on yourself. You will discover that God, the Bible and preachers are holding you back, because open mindedness and rational thinking are far superior. Cognitive dissonance will disappear, real self-esteem improve, you will have more time and money, and you will probably find more real friends. You will not feel the need to look to gurus, priests, preachers, or creeds, because you will be left with something a lot more beautiful, unique and true; your inner self.

Chamber of Commerce: Fill 11.3M Open American Jobs with Foreign Workers

A Pew Research Center survey this week found that 63 percent of employees who quit their jobs last year did so because the pay was too low โ€” an indication of a flooded labor market.

 

Such flooded labor markets from mass legal immigration to the U.S. have had a devastating impact on the nationโ€™s working and middle class, while redistributing billions in wealth to the highest earners, big businesses, real estate investors, and Wall Street, as well as driving capital out of small communities to the coasts.

 

While creating an economy that tilts in favor of employers, the economic model helped keep wages stagnant for decades. From 1979 to 2013, wage growth for the bottom 90 percent of Americans grew just 15 percent. Meanwhile, wage growth for the top one percent of Americans was nearly 140 percent higher.

 

Researchers have found that a flooded labor market can easily diminish job opportunities and wages for Americans.

 

One particular study by the Center for Immigration Studiesโ€™ Steven Camarota revealed that for every one percent increase in the immigrant portion of an American workersโ€™ occupation, their weekly wages are cut by perhaps 0.5 percent. This means the average native-born American worker today has his weekly wages reduced by potentially 8.75 percent as more than 17 percent of the workforce is foreign-born.

 

Already, the U.S. gives out 1.2 million green cards to foreign nationals annually. In addition, about 1.5 million temporary work visas are rewarded to foreign nationals to take American jobs. Moreover, the U.S. saw more than two million border crossers and illegal aliens arrive at its southern border last year.

 

Legal immigration levels have driven the U.S. population to a record 331.9 million, including the largest foreign-born population in the nationโ€™s history at 46.6 million.

Republican senators demand Biden send fighter jets to Ukraine: 'Enough talk. People are dying.'

 

A group of Republican Senators demanded that President Joe Biden follow through with a Polish plan to supply fighter jets to Ukraine as they try to fend off an invasion by Russia.

 

Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah and Joni Ernst of Iowa joined 40 other Republican senators who signed a letter calling on Biden to expedite the transfer of jets in order to "prevent a brutal and unlawful takeover of Ukraine."

 

The debacle began when the U.S. encouraged NATO allies to supply Ukraine with fighter jets and said that they were working with Poland to do just that. Poland surprised the U.S. with a plan to deliver a fleet of MIG-29 jets to the U.S. in the hopes they would deliver them to Ukraine. The Biden administration balked at the plan and then rejected the idea altogether.

 

โ€œWe need to be careful about every decision we make so that we arenโ€™t making the potential for escalation worse,โ€ explained Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby Wednesday.

 

Romney and Ernst decried the refusal in a media briefing Thursday.

 

"We had a hearing this morning with the Foreign Relations Committee. Chairman Menendez said the same thing, Senator Shaheen said the same thing. Democrats are saying the same thing: Send these MiGs. And the question is, why arenโ€™t they being sent?" asked Romney.

 

The administration faced vociferous criticism from both sides of the aisle over the failure to orchestrate the handoff.

 

"Enough talk. People are dying. Send them the planes that they need. They say they need MiGs. People say, well maybe thatโ€™s not the ideal weapon for them. That is what they say they want. They are there. They have the eyes to determine what they want," Romney continued.

 

"They want MiGs," he concluded. "Get them the MiGs."

CNN anchor asks Biden official: 'Why won't the US shoot down' Russian planes?

 

A Biden administration official wouldn't give a straight answer when asked why the U.S. won't "shoot down" Russian planes that are bombing civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

 

On Thursday, CNN anchor Jim Sciutto asked State Department spokesman Ned Price to explain why the U.S. won't take military action against Russia, given that the government considers Russian military strikes against civilian targets like hospitals to be war crimes.

 

The question came up after Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda Thursday, during which Harris called Russia's actions "atrocities of unimaginable proportion."

 

She also said that Russia "absolutely" should be investigated for war crimes.

 

Afterwards, Price joined "CNN Newsroom with Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto" to discuss the vice president's comments, and he was asked if Russia had committed "war crimes."

 

"Lamentably, that's an apt description," Price said, adding that "weโ€™re working with the international community, each group to create new mechanisms to ensure that we are holding Russia and will hold Russia accountable for any potential war crimes.โ€

Montana Takes Matters Into Own Hands, Restarts Dormant Oil Wells Amid Biden's Gas Price Explosion

 

In response to rapidly rising gas prices, the Montana Petroleum Association has announced that wells in the Bakken oil fields are officially going back online.

 

Inflation, regulations and a lack of additional oil resources โ€” such as those that would have been supplied by the Keystone XL Pipeline, which was canceled by President Joe Biden on his first day in office โ€” have led to rising gas prices in the states, experts say.

 

Even before Russiaโ€™s invasion of Ukraine last month, energy prices were rising. In response to Vladimir Putinโ€™s offensive, much of the Western world has imposed sanctions on Russia, disrupting its exports of oil and further exacerbating the pain at the pump.

 

Alan Olson, executive director of the Montana Petroleum Association, told The Western Journal that up until this point, federal regulations have prevented many oil companies from producing oil.

 

Thanks to rising prices, oil producers can now cover that cost, making drilling worth it again.

 

According to KTVH-TV, the Bakken oil fields โ€œbecome more stable between costs and profitsโ€ when the price of oil reaches roughly $80 per barrel, which are the prices America is beginning to see now.

 

However, as a company seeks to ramp up production, a lack of personnel and a shortage of supplies have become a major issue.

 

โ€œWhen oil prices nose-dived due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Montana Petroleum Association says their member companies were forced to let go of employees. Now that the oil price is rising rapidly, itโ€™s been a challenge to hire new employees due to record low unemployment numbers in the state,โ€ KTVH reported.

 

In addition, Olson said that as producers began to increase production, federal regulations soon to be implemented by the Biden administration are creating a lot of unpredictability in the industry.

 

โ€œThereโ€™s a lot of uncertainty that the industry is facing with upcoming new federal regulations,โ€ he told The Western Journal. โ€œYou know, we had a lot of discussion over the methane fee that was part of the Build Back Better bill.

 

โ€œI mean, that would have hammered the small producers. Actually, it would have hammered everybody.โ€

 

Hamstringing small producers with hefty regulations is a big deal, especially considering states like Montana โ€œno longer have any of the major oil companies producing oil,โ€ Olson explained.

 

โ€œWeโ€™ve got a lot of very small, independent oil producers that, to meet up with some of the proposed new federal regulations, itโ€™s going to leave them with a couple of choices,โ€ he said.

 

โ€œYou either bite the bullet, spend the money, take it off your bottom line โ€” which will cost jobs, which will also cause revenue to state and local government coffers โ€” or you plug your wells and walk away from them.โ€

 

Many local and establishment news outlets have sought to fact-check the claim that the Biden administrationโ€™s policies โ€” such as the Keystone XL Pipeline cancellation and an executive order that halted new oil and gas leases on public lands โ€” have raised prices.

The Land Bridge Theory

 

The conformation of a strait between Asia and North America fueled an interest in the possibility of a wide plain that might have connected the two continents. Beginning in the early 1800s, American scientists and naturalists started investigating archeological sites on the east coast of the United States, slowly working their way towards the west coast. The findings of these forebearers to modern archaeology suggested that people hadn't originated in North America but had populated the continent from another place. However, from where and how had yet to be discovered. From about 1890 to 1925, research, discussion, and inquiry about the peopling of North America stalled because of inconclusive data. It wasn't until the mid-1920s that scientists would finally restart the search for evidence of how people came to North America.
