Ukraine gets $1.7B in fresh aid to pay health care workers

 

WASHINGTON โ€“ Ukraine is getting an additional $1.7 billion in assistance from the U.S. government and the World Bank to pay the salaries of its beleaguered health care workers and provide other essential services.

The money coming Tuesday from the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Treasury Department and the World Bank is meant to alleviate the acute budget deficit caused by Russian President Vladimir Putinโ€™s โ€œbrutal war of aggression,โ€ USAID said in a statement.

While many medical staffers have left Ukraine, some hospitals have shut down and other hospitals have been bombed. The health workers who remain in Ukraine do their jobs under dire circumstances.

Viktor Liashko, Ukraineโ€™s minister of health, said paying health workers' salaries is becoming more difficult each month โ€œdue to the overwhelming burden of war."

โ€œ$1.7 billion is not just yet another financial support; it is an investment that makes us a step closer to victory," Liashko said in a statement.

Harris County Spent Nearly 40+ million on the 2020 Presidential Election

When the Pandemic hit during our election year, the virus transformed many processes. Most importantly, our Presidential Election. When I began to scrutinize the amount of money which was spent during my countyโ€™s election, it was quite shocking the amount of money which was spent in the 2020 Presidential Election as opposed to any other election held in the county. For perspective,in 2020, the Election cost the County $42 million and in 2016, the election cost only $3.6 million.

In 2020, Harris County had allocated a budget of 12 million to run the elections. When the pandemic hit, Harris County Clerk Diane Trautman came into Commissioners Court requesting an additional 12 million so the county could provide mail-in-ballots citing the pandemic.

Referencing Holly Hansenโ€™s reporting from the Texan โ€œIn her request to the commissioners, Trautman said she wanted to scale up the elections division to process as many as 2.4 million mail voters. She claimed that ballot costs would increase by $4.60 to $7.73 per ballot due to printing, mailing, and processing costs, and that those estimates included costs for sanitization of polling sites and advertising to inform voters of the by-mail option.

Trautman did not, however, provide any breakdown of her cost estimates, leading to questions from the two Republican members of the commissionersโ€™ court.

โ€œI want to know why this request for $12 million is so vague,โ€ said Commissioner Steve Radack (R).

Commissioner Jack Cagle (R) noted that during the last presidential election in 2016 there were only 2.2 million registered voters, and 1.2 million ballots cast in Harris County. In 2018 he said there were only 1.2 million ballots cast.โ€

Commissioner Rodney Ellis piped in with his usual rhetoric of racial bating and accused the Republican members of the court of reluctance to approve the funds due to โ€œphilosophical differencesโ€ regarding mail balloting. Ellis. โ€œSo Iโ€™m going to vote that we give Dr. Trautman the right to spend up to 12 million dollars to get ready for these next two important Democratic roll calls elections.โ€

The vote passed 3-2 party line Democrats.

Right after this vote passed Diane Trautman resigned from her position citing โ€œhealth issuesโ€

Upon Diane Trautmanโ€™s resignation, the Harris County Commissioners court voted in 34 year old Chris Hollins, the State Party Vice Chair for the DNC as interim county clerk. Another 3-2 party line vote (D) The motion was set forth by Commissioner Adrian Garcia and Ellis seconded the motion. Chris had worked for Mckinsey, Obama and had been cited for โ€œwanting to turn Texas Blueโ€ he was very vocal about his hatred of President Trump.

In August of 2020, Chris Hollins went before commissioners court to request an additional 17 million dollars so he could implement his โ€œ23-Point S.A.F.E Planโ€ You can read more about the exchange in commissioners court here. What I found incredibly damming with the vendors Mr. Hollins had used, they all seemed to have ties to him through organizations he was involved with. Alongside the fact that some of the contract awards were for $49,999.99 bringing them just under the $50,000 threshold that would have triggered a bid requiremen. The county purchasing agent Dewight Dopslauf told commissioners that proper procurement procedures had not been followed and some of the vendors had already been performing election-related work under Hollins, despite not having been vetted or approved by the county. He also said he had not received scope documents detailing exact duties for several of the vendors in question.

Below is an e-mail sent from Michael Winn (One of Rodney Ellis trusted Advisors) To CTCL requesting COVID-19 Grant Funds for the 2020 Presidential Election. After Michael Winn and Chris Hollins applied for theCTCL Covid Relief grant, they were awarded 9.6 million. Again, commissioners court accepted the grant under a 3-2 party line vote (Democrat) even when Commissioners Jack Cagle and Steve Radack both brought up legitimate concerns regarding what โ€œstrings could be attached to accepting these fundsโ€

I found that even though the county spent nearly 42 million on the 2020 Election, many of the Republican Precincts ran into long wait lines, and the county clerk had strategically placed most of the voting machines predominantly in democrat precincts, specifically Rodney Ellisโ€™s precinct.

I think I might be able to explain how one massive asteroid impact created pretty much everything on our planet using energy and geometry.

There are at least 40 blast points/vertices, perhaps more, with at least 10 vertices in each quadrant of the blast zone

E/W midpoint line stretches from Hawaii around the globe to the Newfoundland/Labrador Sea area

N/S midpoint line goes from above Franz Josef Land down through the tip of India to Antarctica

The outer wall of the blast would have wrapped around the globe as it traveled, coming together over the Americas, and I'm willing to bet this is how the Rockies were created.

 

Connecting the vertices multiple times, each with staggered variations (star polygons), results in the explanation of:

  • continent shapes and major landforms

  • seismic fault lines

  • volcanic hotspots

  • crustal magnetic anomalies

It could also potentially help explain the equatorial bulge.

Interestingly, US wars in the middle east coincide with main forward blast area. China, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and Libya fall in the section of the asteroid's underground forward trajectory. The locations of Kabul and Kandahar in particular compared to their nearby geologic features makes me wonder what the real catalyst for military action was, and particularly the underground military training, but that's my own speculation.

Cuba: Thousands Nationwide Take Streets Against Communism

 

Thousands of Cubans in at least 16 cities took the streets peacefully on Sunday to demand an end to the 62-year-old communist regime, chanting โ€œfreedom,โ€ wearing American flags, and in many cases facing extreme police repression.

 

Videos from throughout the island show both plain-clothed and uniformed state security officers attacking peaceful protesters. In Havana, bystanders recorded the sound of heavy gunfire and public beatings of dissidents. Miguel Dรญaz-Canel, the โ€œpresidentโ€ appointed by Raรบl Castro to be the face of the still-ruling Castro Communist Party, called for street โ€œcombatโ€ against anyone demanding an end to the regime in a speech on Sunday.

 

The protests appeared to begin in the town of San Antonio de los Baรฑos, western Cuba, on Sunday morning. Local independent outlets documented chants of โ€œdown with communism!โ€, โ€œthey [the regime] must leave,โ€ and โ€œfuck Dรญaz-Canel!โ€, among other anti-government statements. Locals livestreamed the protest on Facebook, triggering an outpouring into the streets of at least 16 major cities including both Havana and Santiago de Cuba, on opposite ends of the island.

 

The geographically widespread nature of the protests and the secrecy of the Communist Party on the island has made it virtually impossible to estimate exactly how many Cubans took the streets on Sunday. Police have not released any arrest totals or injury statistics, but some local outlets estimate that hundreds were arrested, taken into police stations but not formally charged or appearing in any law enforcement documentation. Among the arrested were several Cuban journalists not participating but reporting on the protests, according to the dissident news service Cubanet. Also arrested on Sunday, though rapidly released, was Yomil Hidalgo, one of Cubaโ€™s most popular dance music artists.

 

The American flag, popularized as a protest symbol in Cuba by dissident Daniel Llorente, made multiple appearances among Cubans on Sunday. Video authenticated by the Miami broadcaster AmรฉricaTeve showed a group of Cubans carrying an American flag through the streets of Havana on Sunday while chanting โ€œfreedom!โ€ Videos taken by Cubans on social media and distributed through other Latin American news organizations also show the presence of the U.S. flag.

 

In Mayabeque, a Havana suburb, a crowd of hundreds congregated in front of an image of the Virgin Mary to pray for an end to the communist regime. At least one participant can be seen wearing an American flag shirt while praying.

 

Pre-Castro Cuba was a majority Catholic nation. Under communism, the regime has outlawed most religious practices it cannot control and regularly persecutes Christians who defy its authority. Fidel Castro sent non-Catholic Christians โ€“ primarily Jehovahโ€™s Witnesses and Seventh-Day Adventists โ€“ to labor camps alongside suspected LGBT people, writers and critics, and other โ€œundesirablesโ€ in the 1960s.

 

Reports of the beating and arrest of at least one Catholic priest, Father Castor Josรฉ รlvarez Devesa, surfaced on Sunday. รlvarez reportedly disappeared in Camagรผey, one of the most active protest centers, and resurfaced under the custody of the Communist Partyโ€™s secret police.

Morality is momentary, and personally objective. If a kidnapped person kills their captor and escapes, they will be treated as a criminal by the "Justice System" until their case is tried and legal conclusions are reached by third parties pretending to be God.

The gunfire was an apparent attempt to keep protesters out of the Plaza of the Revolution, the Spain-based Diario de Cuba reported. The Plaza is the crown jewel of communist architecture in Havana, featuring Soviet-style metal portraits of Fidel Castro, Ernesto โ€œCheโ€ Guevara, and other mass murderers. Diario de Cuba, citing a reporter on the ground, stated that police surrounded the Plaza and deployed a communist mob to wave photos of Fidel Castro. Police carrying baseball bats offered protection to the state-sponsored mob. Photos of the pro-Castro mob in Havana appeared in Granma, the official newspaper of the Communist Party, late Sunday appear to confirm those reports.

 

Dรญaz-Canel appeared on television Sunday to call all communists to violently attack any protesters, effectively urging civil war.

In 1976 The Queen and Prince Philip undertook a State Visit to the United States, to mark America's bicentenary. The Queen and Prince Philip were welcomed by President Ford, and The Queen presented a new Liberty Bell to Philadelphia. That visit, and the theme of reconciliation after disagreements, formed the theme of The Queen's Christmas Broadcast in 1976.

 

Christmas is a time for reconciliation. A time not only for families and friends to come together but also for differences to be forgotten.

 

In 1976 I was reminded of the good that can flow from a friendship that is mended. Two hundred years ago the representatives of the thirteen British Colonies in North America signed the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.

 

This year we went to America to join in their Bicentennial celebrations. Who would have thought 200 years ago that a descendent of King George III could have taken part in these celebrations? Yet that same King was among the first to recognise that old scores must be settled and differences reconciled, and the first United States Ambassador to Britain declared that he wanted "the old good nature and the old good humour restored".

 

And restored they were. The United States was born in bitter conflict with Britain but we didn't remain enemies for long. From our reconciliation came incalculable benefits to mankind and a partnership which, together with many countries of the Commonwealth, was proved in two world wars and ensured that the light of liberty was not extinguished.

 

King George III never saw the Colonies he lost. My father, King George VI, was the first British Sovereign to see the famous skyline of Manhattan and to visit the rich and vibrant country that lies beyond it.

 

Wherever we went the welcome was the same, all the way to Boston, where the first shots in the war between Britain and America were fired.

 

Reconciliation, like the one that followed the American War of Independence, is the product of reason, tolerance and love, and I think that Christmas is a good time to reflect on it.

 

It is easy enough to see where reconciliation is needed and where it would heal and purify, obviously in national and international affairs, but also in homes and families.

 

It is not something that is easy to achieve. But things that are worthwhile seldom are, so it is encouraging to know that there are many people trying to achieve it.

 

A few weeks ago, for instance, I met in my home a group of people who are working for better understanding between people of different colour, different faiths and different philosophies - and who are trying to solve the very real problems of community relations.

 

Another shining example is the peace movement in Northern Ireland. Here Roman Catholics and Protestants have joined together in a crusade of reconciliation to bring peace to the Province.

 

Next year is a rather special one for me and I would like my Silver Jubilee year also to become a special one for people who find themselves the victims of human conflict.

 

The gift I would most value next year is that reconciliation should be found wherever it is needed. A reconciliation which would bring peace and security to families and neighbours at present suffering and torn apart.

 

Remember that good spreads outwards and every little does help. Mighty things from small beginnings grow as indeed they grew from the small child of Bethlehem.

 

I believe there is another thought from which we can draw encouragement. If there is reconciliation - if we can get the climate right - the good effects will flow much more quickly than most people would believe possible.

 

Those who know the desert know also how quickly it can flower when the rains come. But who in Britain who saw the parched earth and empty reservoirs last summer would have believed that the grass would grow so strong, so green and so soon when the drought ended? When the conflict stops, peace can blossom just as quickly.

 

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and may the New Year bring reconciliation between all people.

A video posted Monday shows conservative political commentator Steven Crowder conducting an on-the-street interview with two New Yorkers visiting Texas. Both the men have immigrant backgrounds, both have traveled in America and abroad, and both said they are proud to be Americans.

 

Nick, whose family is Italian, said his experience traveling to other countries has helped him appreciate America. โ€œIโ€™ve had the privilege to go to other countries before, and I feel like a big part of really appreciating America is going to other countries, experiencing them, and then coming back,โ€ he said.

 

โ€œI feel like weโ€™ve lost that sense of community that I have seen in other countries where theyโ€™ve had that community,โ€ Nick added. โ€œBut at the same time, weโ€™ve opened up our country to all these great people from all different places around the world, and weโ€™ve built kind of a newer community, and I think thatโ€™s something that is really unique to America.โ€

 

James, whose family is Greek, expressed similar sentiments after having traveled abroad. โ€œIโ€™ve been to France and to Iceland โ€” not that those are bad countries, but I definitely feel the freest here,โ€ he said.

 

It isnโ€™t just international travel that has shaped Nick and Jamesโ€™s perspectives, however. James said that his travel within the United States has made him understand the importance of self-government.

 

โ€œOn our trip from Florida, we were driving through like Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana in the woods, and we just kind of noticed how arrogant it is for some people from these big cities to talk about, โ€˜Oh, we donโ€™t need an AK-47.โ€™ You donโ€™t even know what youโ€™re talking about, right? Youโ€™ve never been to a place like this where youโ€™re 100 miles from civilization,โ€ James said. โ€œWe just need the government to take a step back, and people need to be able to govern themselves a little bit more.โ€

 

This interview followed a different video from July 4 that showed Crowder interviewing a couple, Fate and Laura, who had been homeless for a long time before someone helped them move from Dallas to Iowa where they could find work.

 

โ€œThatโ€™s what America is supposed to always be about,โ€ said Fate, who is also black and said he doesnโ€™t care about the skin color of his fellow Iowans. โ€œItโ€™s supposed to be looking after your fellow man.โ€

 

The pair said the kindness of their fellow Americans has helped them make it through.

 

โ€œWould you consider yourself proud to be American?โ€ Crowder asked.

 

โ€œAbsolutely,โ€ Laura said.
