On 5 June 2016, an extreme rainfall event in Tasmania’s Central Highlands resulted in a [MAJOR FLOODING] that [KILLED THREE PEOPLE] and caused [significant damage to livestock, property and infrastructure]. Earlier the same day, Tasmania’s commercial producer of hydroelectricity, Hydro Tasmania, had conducted a cloud seeding operation in the area.

[CLOUD SEEDING] is a form of [WEATHER MODIFICATION]

 

Flossman et al suggest that a poorly designed project could reduce precipitation or prevent the precipitation process altogether, thereby depriving neighbouring areas of rainfall.

Conversely, DeFelice et al suggest that [cloud seeding activities could increase the amount of precipitation up to two hundred kilometres from the target area].

Such an increase could harm a neighbouring area, especially if it [INCREASES the RISK OF FLOODS].

 

Two days after GE’s first outdoor experiments were conducted in the US, in 1947, the Australian House of Representatives requested the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation ( ‘CSIRO’)54 to conduct its own research on cloud seeding.

The Rain-Making Control Act 1967 makes cloud seeding a governmental function and provides immunity from liability

a recent experiment in Queensland was a public/private initiative, involving the American-based company, Weather Modification Inc

It was agreed that any disaster would be dealt similarly as natural bushfires and floods, and that the Crown should not be held liable for damage resulting from weather modification activities

Conclusion: Australia has played a major role in weather modification research and implementation.

Key statistics

– In 2022, there were 59,147 deaths that occurred by 30 April and were registered by 30 June, which is 8,513 (16.8%) more than the historical average.

– In April there were 14,492 deaths, 1,580 (12.2%) above the historical average.

 

Baseline comparisons

Throughout this report, counts of deaths are compared to an average number of deaths for previous years. In this report, data for 2021 is compared to an average number of deaths recorded over the 5 years from 2015-2019 as was the case in previous publications. Data for 2022 is compared to a baseline comprising the years 2017-2019 and 2021. 2020 is not included in the baseline for 2022 data because it included periods where numbers of deaths were significantly lower than expected. Counts of deaths for 2015-2021 are included in the baseline datacubes of the data downloads section of this report.

 

These average or baseline counts serve as a proxy for the expected number of deaths, so comparisons against baseline counts can provide an indication of whether mortality is higher or lower than expected in a given year. The minimum and maximum counts are also included to provide an indication of the range of previous counts. Minimums and maximums for any given week can be from any of the years included in the baseline.

Former President Donald Trump has warned that America’s economy is on track for a bigger disaster than a recession, with his remarks coming shortly before government statistics showed GDP printing negative for the second consecutive quarter, which is a rule-of-thumb definition for a recession.

 

“Where we’re going now could be a very bad place,” Trump said at a rally in Arizona last week. “We got to get this act in order, we have to get this country going, or we’re going to have a serious problem.”

 

The former president singled out the collapse in Americans’ real wages, a historically depressed labor force participation rate, and the Democrat push for the Green New Deal that he said would crush economic growth.

 

“Not recession. Recession’s a nice word. We’re going to have a much bigger problem than recession. We’ll have a depression,” the former president said.

Vance Ginn, Chief Economist at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, told The Epoch Times’ sister media NTD in an interview that, while officially it’s NBER that calls recessions, the two-quarter rule is “usually how it’s done by a rule of thumb.”

 

“I think this is definitely recession that we’re in now from these bad policies,” Ginn added, blaming a series of “progressive policies” coming out of the White House and the Democrat-controlled House.

While the former president didn’t provide his own estimate for the true rate of inflation, an alternative CPI inflation gauge developed by economist John Williams, calculated according to the same methodology used by the U.S. government in the 1980s, puts the figure at 17.3 percent, a 75-year high.

Action is the most powerful language, said the Chinese Defense Ministry on Thursday as its spokesperson stressed the sensitivity of the Taiwan question again after China issued six warnings against US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's potential visit to Taiwan island over the past few days.

 

The frequency of Chinese warnings and the remarks different departments use fully demonstrate China's determination to take any necessary military measures to counter US provocations and safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, analysts said.

 

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) will not tolerate any "Taiwan independence" moves or interference from external forces, and will resolutely stop such attempts, Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Defense Ministry, said at Thursday's press briefing.

 

The root cause of a turbulent Taiwan Straits is the collusion between "Taiwan independence" forces and external interfering forces, Wu said, urging relevant parties to learn to adapt to the new reality (PLA operations near the Straits), to reflect on their own deeds and "most importantly, to pull back from the brink."

 

Though Wu was responding to a question about PLA operations on the Taiwan Straits, analysts interpreted Wu's words as another stern warning against the US government and some US politicians who are pushing Pelosi's possible visit to Taiwan island.

Le privilège du blanc, or “the privilege of the white,” is a term describing the custom where certain designated women are allowed to wear a white dress and veil during audiences with the pope, rather than the traditional black dress. A reigning Catholic queen or princess is given this privilege at the behest of the pope.

 

The requirements for the privilege are being a Catholic in good standing and being married to another Catholic monarch. They may also gain the privilege through a simple dispensation by the pope. However, a catholic monarch does not have to always adhere to the Le privilège du blanc, called “declining the privilege.” If they decline to wear white clothing it does not disallow them from wearing white clothing in the future, as long they still retain the privilege.

 

Today, only seven catholic monarchs have the privilege. Although Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is Catholic, her husband King Willem-Alexander is protestant and thus she is not afforded the privilege. The seven who do have it are:

Death toll rises to 16 after devastating floods in Eastern Kentucky: Latest updates

The death toll in Eastern Kentucky rose to 16 on Friday morning after torrential rains flooded the region, destroying hundreds of homes and wiping out entire communities.

 

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, in a video posted to Twitter, said children were likely included in the death count and that the number is expected to grow to "probably more than double."

 

"We know some of the loss will include children," Beshear said. "We may have even lost entire families."

 

Search and rescue teams, with the help of the National Guard, were searching for missing people Friday after record floods washed through the region. The governor declared a state of emergency.

 

More rain and storms were expected this weekend after over 6 inches of rain fell Wednesday night into Thursday. Meteorologist Brandon Bonds with the National Weather Service in Jackson said it won't take much more rain to "cause even more damage." A flood watch or warning was expected to stay in effect for many of the areas that saw the worst of the flooding.

Death toll rises to 16

 

Jimmy Pollard, executive director of the Kentucky Coroners Association, confirmed the 16th death Friday morning to The Courier Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network.

 

The deaths occurred in Knott, Letcher, Clay and Perry counties, he said. Additional details were not yet available.

 

Beshear earlier Friday announced the death toll climbed overnight from eight to 15. A press briefing was planned for Friday morning.

 

Gov. Beshear: Number of missing 'tough' to estimate

 

Beshear on Friday morning said it would be "tough" to determine the number of people who are unaccounted for because cell service and electricity were out across the region.

 

More than 200 people have sought shelter, Beshear said. The National Guard has mobilized.

 

"In a word, this event is devastating, and I do believe it will end up being one of the most significant deadly floods that we have had in Kentucky in at least a very long time," Beshear said Thursday.

 

On Friday morning, Beshear said the state completed hundreds of rescues, with about 50 air rescues and hundreds of boat rescues. The flooding has left over 23,000 Kentuckians without power and several counties without access to water, Beshear said.

While rain was reported in several areas around the state, the flooding took place in Eastern Kentucky, in counties near the border with Virginia and West Virginia.

 

Towns and cities reported having been hit the hardest are Hazard, Jackson, Garrett, Salyersville, Booneville, Whitesburg and the rest of Perry County.

 

The stretch of the Kentucky River in Jackson reached the highest it has ever been, at 43.2 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson as of 6 a.m. Friday. That mark broke a record set in 1939 when the height of the river reached 43.1 feet.

EU finds signs of Israeli spyware use on top official phones: Letter

 

The European Commission, the EU executive's arm in Brussels, has discovered indications that the phones of some of its top officials have been targeted with spy software designed by Israeli surveillance firm NSO Group.

 

EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders stated in a letter dated July 25 to Dutch MEP Sophie in’t Veld that Apple alerted him in November 2021 of possible hacking of his smartphone by the Israeli Pegasus software.

 

Pegasus is Israeli spyware that targeted prominent and influential figures all around the globe, including politicians and journalists.

 

The Israeli NSO Group-developed spyware leaks stated that there are more than 50,000 records of phone numbers that NSO clients selected for surveillance since 2016.

 

An internal investigation did not "confirm that Pegasus had succeeded in infecting the devices, personal or professional," of him or other EU employees as per Reynders' letter.

 

But "several device checks led to the discovery of indicators of compromise", the letter said, stressing that "it is impossible to attribute these clues to a specific perpetrator with certainty."

 

The letter did not provide further details on the outcome of the Commission's investigation, which is still ongoing, citing security concerns.

 

It is worth noting that in 't Veld is part of an EU Parliament investigation into Pegasus, which is looking into allegations of Pegasus spyware used by EU governments, including Hungary, Poland, and Spain.

 

After a scandal involving the use of Pegasus to hack top politicians' mobile phones, Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, vowed last month to tighten oversight of the country's secret services.

 

The scandal broke in April, when Citizen Lab, a Canadian cybersecurity watchdog, revealed that the phones of more than 60 people associated with the Catalan separatist movement had been tapped with Pegasus spyware.

 

Reynders stated that the commission had sent requests for additional information on Pegasus usage to Hungary, Poland, and Spain.

 

Almost a year now, the world continues to react to the Pegasus spyware scandal as press reports continue to reveal how it aimed to target powerful and prominent figures, including politicians, journalists, and activists.

San Francisco declares emergency over monkeypox spread

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The mayor of San Francisco announced a state of emergency Thursday over the growing number of monkeypox cases, allowing officials to cut through red tape and fight a public health crisis reminiscent of the AIDS epidemic that began devastating the city in the 1980s.

 

“We are at a very scary place. And we don’t want to be ignored by the federal government in our need. So many leaders of the LGBT community have also, weeks ago, asked for additional help and support and assistance,” said Mayor London Breed.

 

The city is in “desperate need of vaccines,” she said.

 

The declaration, which takes effect Monday, was welcomed by gay advocates who have grown increasingly frustrated by what they called San Francisco’s lackluster response to a virus that so far has affected primarily men who have sex with men, although anyone can get infected.

 

“San Francisco was at the forefront of the public health responses to HIV and COVID-19, and we will be at the forefront when it comes to monkeypox,” said state Sen. Scott Wiener, a Democrat who represents the city. “We can’t and won’t leave the LGBTQ community out to dry.”

 

The city has 281 cases, out of about 800 in California and 4,600 nationwide, according to the San Francisco Department of Public Health. A national shortage of vaccine has resulted in people waiting in line for hours for scarce doses, often to be turned away when the shots run out.

Over heckling from protesters, Robert Habeck of the Greens insisted that soaring energy costs are worth it to oppose Russia

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck was drowned out by protesters in Bayreuth on Thursday as he urged Germans to accept the rising cost of energy as the price of standing against Russia. Meanwhile, gas prices are set to soar even further thanks to a new government surcharge.

 

A chorus of jeers and whistles rang out as Habeck took to the stage during a citizens’ forum in the Bavarian town. Holding signs reading “warmonger,” they chanted “get lost”as Habeck attempted to defend his government’s anti-Russia policies in the face of a floundering economy.

 

Habeck insisted that “Germany should not tolerate the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, despite financial disadvantages,”according to a writeup of the event on Stern, a German news site.

 

Participants in the forum, however, told Habeck that these “disadvantages” were hurting them.Germany’s strategy of moving away from Russian energy imports as quickly as possible amounts to “economic suicide,” a solar entrepreneur told the minister, according to coverage by the Frankfurter Allgemeine. “What have the sanctions achieved?” another woman asked, adding that Russia will win in Ukraine regardless of the West’s economic penalties.

 

The outspoken entrepreneur is not the only critic to accuse the German government of committing “economic suicide.” Russian President Vladimir Putin has used the same phrase, while industry leaders in Germany have repeatedly warned that they face economic ruin without a steady supply of cheap Russian gas.

 

Germany relies on Russia to supply around 55% of its natural gas. Despite this reliance, Berlin abruptly canceled the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline within days of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, and supported sanctions that have impeded critical repairs along the existing Nord Stream I line. With the country refusing to extend the lifespan of its last three nuclear power plants, a number of coal plants are due to be reactivated.

 

Habeck claimed on Thursday that rising prices are the fault of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who should be opposed regardless of the cost to Europe. Regarding reduced flow through the Nord Stream 1 line, Habeck told the crowd that Russia refuses to take a serviced turbine from Germany to repair Nord Stream 1. Meanwhile, Russian energy giant Gazprom stated this week that EU and UK sanctions prevent it from taking the vital piece of equipment to Russia.

 

Earlier on Thursday, Habeck told German broadcaster ZDF that Nord Stream 2 would not be revived, arguing that doing so “would be raising the white flag” to Putin.

 

Germany this week also voted in favor of an EU plan asking all member states to commit to a 15% reduction in gas consumption over the winter, while several news outlets reported that a planned government surcharge will see gas bills soar for Germans from October onwards, with the average German household expected to pay an additional €1,000 ($1,016) per year to cook and heat their homes.

NASA will host a pair of briefings on Wednesday, Aug. 3, and Friday, Aug. 5, to preview the upcoming Artemis I lunar mission. The agency is currently targeting no earlier than Monday, Aug. 29, for the launch of the Space Launch System rocket to send the Orion spacecraft around the Moon and back to Earth. The mission will take place over the course of about six weeks to check out systems before crew fly aboard on Artemis II.

 

The first briefing will provide an overview of the Artemis I mission, and the second briefing will dive deeper into the Artemis I mission timeline and spacecraft operations. Both briefings will air live on NASA Television, the NASA app, the agency’s website.

Murdoch news site deletes royal ‘pegging’ story – media

 

Unsubstantiated rumors of Prince William’s sexual perversions have spread online in recent days

The Australian has published, and then deleted, a story describing the sex life of an unnamed British royal in graphic detail from its youth-focused news site, the Guardian reported. Based on unverified gossip from a social media account, the story allegedly concerns Prince William and his fondness for “pegging.”

 

The rumor originated on an Instagram gossip page on Thursday, having been sent to the page’s admins by an anonymous tipster. According to the source, the extramarital affair of a British royal is “an open secret in London,”with politicians and news reporters all aware.

 

The source added that “the real reason for the affair was the royal’s love of pegging, which the wife is far too old fashioned to engage in.”

 

“The wife doesn’t mind her and in fact prefers her husband getting his sexual needs fulfilled elsewhere, as long as things don’t become emotional, which was the case with the last woman.”

 

Pegging is a sexual act involving a woman deploying a strap-on phallus on her male partner.

 

Online gossip quickly named Prince William as the royal in question and Kate Middleton as the understanding wife. There is no indication that any of the above is true, but gossip magazines have reported on William’s alleged affairs before, with Buckingham Palace reportedly threatening these outlets with legal action.

 

The Australian, a conservative news outlet owned by media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, published the latest “pegging” story on its youth-focused subsidiary, The Oz, on Friday.

 

The Australian Monarchist League took the publication badly, with chairman Philip Benwell calling it “highly unusual.”

 

“You might expect that in one of the British scandal rags but not in a paper like the Australian,” Benwell told the Guardian. “Their job is to publish news; not innuendo and downright defamation. From the wording of the article itself it’s quite clear they don’t have any evidence for what they are suggesting.”

 

Even if the rumor were true, Benwell insisted that “one’s peccadilloes are a private matter as long as they don’t affect anybody else.”

 

According to The Guardian, shortly after it contacted the newspaper to ask why the rumor had been published, the story and an associated TikTok video were removed. The Guardian said that the story was pulled within minutes of its journalists contacting The Australian’s editor-in-chief.

 

Nevertheless, the hashtag #PrinceOfPegging continued to trend on Twitter into Friday. Even budget airline Ryanair mocked William directly over the story.

Miloon Kothari, one of the commissioners, had alluded to a "Jewish lobby" questioning whether "Israel" even deserves a UN membership, reigniting claims that the council is biased against "Israel".

 

"We are very disheartened by the social media that is controlled largely by, whether it is the Jewish lobby or it is specific NGOs, a lot of money is being thrown into trying to discredit us," Kothari said.

The energy crisis in Germany is now a confluence of terrible events that will snowball well into next year.

 

The world’s largest chemical company, BASF, has announced they will cut down the production of ammonia in order to use less natural gas.

 

In the short term this will help Germany build up natural gas supplies to survive a cold winter with predicted rationing still planned. However, in the long term the shortage of ammonia means less fertilizer which will mean future shortages and increased costs for farmers; ultimately creating lower yields next year.

 

FRANKFURT, July 27 (Reuters) – Germany’s BASF (BASFn.DE), the world’s largest chemical company, is cutting ammonia production further due to soaring natural gas prices, it said on Wednesday, with potential ramifications from farming to fizzy drinks.

 

Germany’s biggest ammonia maker SKW Piesteritz and number four Ineos also said they could not rule out production cuts as the country grapples with disruption to Russian gas supplies.

 

Ammonia plays a key role in the manufacturing of fertiliser, engineering plastics and diesel exhaust fluid. Its production also yields high-purity carbon dioxide (CO2) as a byproduct, which is needed by the meat and fizzy drinks industries.

 

“We are reducing production at facilities that require large volumes of natural gas, such as ammonia plants,” BASF Chief Executive said in a media call after the release of quarterly results, confirming an earlier Reuters report.

 

[…] Unlike many European countries, Germany has no liquefied natural gas (LNG) port terminals to replace Russian pipeline gas. That means companies are under political and commercial pressure to reduce gas intensive activities if gas deliveries are cut further.

ROME — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently published a sharp letter excoriating the Vatican’s plans to renew an agreement with the Chinese government on Church operations in China. He promoted the article in a tweet, concluding, “The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal.”

 

An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.

 

“Pompeo asked to meet” the pope, who turned him down because Francis had “clearly said that he does not receive political figures ahead of the elections,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who, as secretary of state, is the Vatican’s second-ranking official, told reporters.

 

But to some observers on both sides of the tensions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Trump administration, Mr. Pompeo’s visit is as much about the coming presidential election as about China policy. Mr. Pompeo dismissed that suggestion as absurd, but intended or not, his trip signals that President Trump is on the side of those conservative American Catholics who worry about the church’s direction under Francis and think he is soft on China.

 

Francis and Mr. Trump, who have exchanged sharp words in the past, present starkly different visions on issues ranging from the environment to immigration to the threat of populism. In appealing to the Vatican’s support for religious freedom as a reason to drop its China agreement, Mr. Pompeo seemed to seek common ground, but in a way that upset the pope’s chief allies and delighted his chief critics.

Today, an official at a Turkey-based grains trading company denied Ukrainian claims that the cargo of barley and flour aboard a ship that docked at a Lebanon port was stolen from Ukraine, contending that the source was Russia.

 

The official, who works for Loyal Agro Co LTD, told Reuters that the company had sought to bring 5,000 tons of flour to Lebanon to sell to private customers, and not to the Lebanese government.

 

Lebanese government officials were inaccessible for comment.

 

On Thursday, the Ukrainian Embassy in Lebanon told Reuters that a Syrian ship, sanctioned by the US, docked in Tripoli port “carrying 5,000 tonnes of barley and 5,000 tonnes of flour that we suspect was taken from Ukrainian stores.”

 

The Russian Embassy in Beirut, in response, said it had "no information regarding the Syrian vessel or a cargo brought to Lebanon by a private company."

 

The unidentified company official said the cargo had not been offloaded and that Lebanese customs have not yet handed an import license as Lebanese customs were in the process of investigating Ukrainian allegations that the flour was stolen by Russia from Ukraine.

 

The official provided Lebanese customs with documentation legitimizing the source of the cargo.

 

On Thursday, a customs official and shipping source said Tripoli port had not offloaded the ship due to claims it was carrying stolen goods.

 

The cargo, according to the company official, carried some 8,000 tonnes of flour and 1,700 tonnes of barley in total. It was initially destined for Syria, but the company decided to offload 5,000 tonnes of flour in Lebanon to ameliorate the bread crisis. Thus, the remainder of the cargo will be sent off to Syria.

 

Furthermore, the official revealed that the flour could be sold anywhere between $620 to $650 per ton in Lebanon, whereas in Syria it would cost $600 per ton.

 

The majority of wheat in Lebanon was imported from Ukraine before the war started, but the imports were halted upon the start of the conflict.

 

Legal imports of Ukrainian wheat resumed in mid-July.

'Night of Terror': Prison Guard Sells Jail Keys, Allowing Male Inmates to Rape Female Prisoners

Twenty-eight female inmates at an Indiana jail are suing a Clark County jail guard for selling the keys to their cells to male inmates, resulting in a “night of terror,” according to two lawsuits.

 

The suits allege that at least 12 women were raped, harassed, groped, and threatened after a guard, David Lowe, 29, sold the keys to their cells to male inmates for $1,000.

 

Male inmates allegedly wore towels over their heads to hide their identities from cameras as they entered the female prisoner section.

 

“The men repeatedly threatened to sexually assault the women,” according to one lawsuit. The male inmates also allegedly threatened the women if they screamed for help. Two women reported being raped.

 

As per the suits,not one guard came to help the women. The suits also allege that some of the women were left with various injuries, including “bleeding, vaginal tears, and genital herpes.”

 

Shockingly, after the brutal attacks, the guards put the women on lockdown and left the jail lights on for 72 hours. They also commandeered “authorized personal property from the women such as pillows, blankets, and personal hygiene items without any legitimate security reason,” according to court records.

 

Jail guard David Lowe was summarily fired and charged with trafficking with an inmate, felony official misconduct, and aiding escape. Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel is also named in the suits, which accuse him of not training guards adequately.

 

“These systemic failures allowed numerous male assailants to have free run of the jail for several hours, resulting in a night of terror for the Plaintiffs and other victims,” lawyers for the women declared.

Allison Agwu is an Associate Professor of Adult and Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Agwu graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1999 and completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric Residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Rainbow Babies and Children's in Cleveland, Ohio in 2003. She then matriculated as the first combined adult/pediatric infectious diseases fellow at Johns Hopkins, which she completed in 2007. She came on faculty in 2007 with appointments in both pediatric and adult infectious diseases. Dr. Agwu's clinical and research interest is in HIV/AIDS and she has a special focus on adolescent and young adults living with HIV. She sees patients both in the pediatric and adult HIV clinics and as the founder and medical director of the Accessing Care Early (ACE) Clinic, has been integral to the transition of pediatric HIV infected patients to adult care. She also sees general pediatric infectious diseases consultations (in and outpatient). From a research perspective, Dr. Agwu’s overarching goal is to optimize outcomes for youth and to that aim deciphers health disparities and optimal ART treatment strategies (initiation and failure) and prevention of co-morbidities (e.g., inflammation) for youth living with HIV. Dr. Agwu has worked with the HIV Research Network for seven years, and has spearheaded the pediatric/adolescent working group agenda. Additionally, Dr. Agwu is the Principal Investigator of the Johns Hopkins sites of the International Maternal Pediatric and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials' Group (IMPAACT) and the Adolescent Trials’ Network (ATN), and the Co-Clinical Research Site leader of the JHU Adult AID Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) Unit. In addition she has chaired protocols examining strategies to address ART and morbidities in HIV infected pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients. She is a member of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Pediatric Antiretroviral Treatment Guidelines.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) on Friday thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for his "warm reception" during talks in Paris that have outraged rights groups.

 

The 36-year-old Crown Prince became a pariah in the West following the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi agents inside Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul in 2018.

 

Macron's office made no official statement on the talks overnight which were expected to focus on securing extra oil and gas supplies from the Middle East's biggest producer.

 

Bin Salman's visit to Frane comes as Western leaders urgently seek fresh sources of fossil fuels to replace lost Russian production.

Earlier this month, US President Joe Biden traveled to Riyadh, drawing similar criticism to that faced by Macron at home.

 

While Biden fist-bumped bin Salman in a gesture that was seized on by critics, Macron shook hands on the steps of the Elysee Palace as he welcomed the Saudi Crown Prince.

 

"He's shaking the hand for a long time of man whose hands are covered in blood," senior leftwing MP Alexis Corbiere told BFM television on Friday.

 

"A mistake to not speak"

 

Some analysts believe Saudi Arabia is one of few countries worldwide with the capacity to increase its oil production.

 

Public Services Minister Stanislas Guerini, a close ally of Macron, said that "There are partners, countries that do not all share the same democratic values as France."

 

"But I believe it would be a mistake to not speak, to not try to make things happen," he told Europe 1 radio on Friday.

 

The role of the president was "to protect the French people," he claimed.

 

Guerini added that "French values, the voice of France, human rights, were carried last night, as always, by the president."

 

"Extrajudicial killing"

 

The head of Amnesty International, Agnes Callamard, told AFP that she felt "profoundly troubled" by bin Salman's visit.

 

The murder of Khashoggi was described by a UN probe as an "extrajudicial killing for which Saudi Arabia is responsible."

 

US intelligence agencies said that MBS had "approved" the operation that led to Khashoggi's murder. Riyadh denies this, blaming rogue operatives.

 

On her part, Khashoggi's fiancee Hatice Cengiz told AFP on Thursday that "I am scandalised and outraged that Emmanuel Macron is receiving with all the honours the executioner of my fiance."

NASA Announces Astronaut Shane Kimbrough to Retire

NASA’s Shane Kimbrough is retiring after 22 years, including 18 years as an astronaut. His last day with the agency is Sunday, July 31.

 

The retired U.S. Army colonel spent 388 days in space, landing him fifth on the list of record holders for cumulative time in space for all NASA astronauts. He was the fourth person to fly on three different spacecraft – the space shuttle, Soyuz, and SpaceX Crew Dragon – and he performed nine spacewalks during his three spaceflights.

 

Kimbrough was recently the commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-2 mission to the International Space Station, the second long-duration mission for the Crew Dragon spacecraft, and the longest spaceflight for a U.S. human spacecraft. Throughout the mission, Kimbrough and the Expedition 65 crew performed more than 250 scientific investigations designed to benefit all of humanity and help future exploration.

 

The crew studied how gaseous flames behave in microgravity, grew hatch green chiles in the station’s Plant Habitat Facility, tested free-flying robotic assistants, and even donned virtual-reality goggles to test new methods for performing maintenance activities in space. Kimbrough also performed spacewalks to install and deploy the new International Space Station Roll-out Solar Arrays.

 

“Shane’s expertise and leadership has been a huge asset to me personally and the astronaut office for many years. He has been a mentor to many astronauts, and it has been an absolute pleasure and honor to serve with him,” said Chief Astronaut Reid Wiseman at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

 

Kimbrough was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in May 2004. He completed his first spaceflight in 2008 aboard the space shuttle Endeavour to the space station on the STS-126 mission. Highlights of the almost 16-day mission included expanding the living quarters of the space station to eventually house six-member crews by delivering a new bathroom, kitchen, two bedrooms, an exercise machine, and a water recycling system. His second spaceflight launched Oct. 19, 2016, aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to become part of Expedition 49/50 on the station. A week after he arrived, he became station commander until he departed almost six months later. In addition to his spaceflight experience, Kimbrough supported his colleagues by serving as chief of the Astronaut Office’s Vehicle Integration Test Office and its Robotics Branch at various times throughout his career.

 

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a NASA astronaut for the past 18 years,” Kimbrough said. “I am honored to have been able to fly on three different spacecraft and to spend time at the International Space Station. I’ve worked with the best of the best in orbit and on the ground and am grateful for those that have supported me and my family. I’ve wanted to be an astronaut since I was a little kid watching NASA astronauts go to the Moon. To accomplish three spaceflights and nearly 400 days in space in my career is truly a dream come true.”

 

Kimbrough was born in Killeen, Texas, and graduated from The Lovett School in Atlanta in 1985. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, in 1989, and a Master of Science degree in operations research from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in 1998.

Russia accuses Ukraine of killing POWs with HIMARS system

 

Russia has accused Kyiv of striking a jail holding Ukrainian prisoners of war in separatist-controlled eastern Ukraine, killing 40 detainees including some who had defended Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant.

 

The Russian defense ministry said a HIMARS missile strike hit a pre-trial detention center in Olenivka, in the separatist-held region of Donetsk, overnight on Friday.

 

“Forty Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed and 75 wounded,” the ministry said in its daily briefing, adding that the centre held fighters from the Azov battalion.

 

Those troops had surrendered earlier this year after a three-month siege of Mariupol’s steelworks and were transferred to Russian-held territory.

 

Eight employees of the detention center were also injured, Russia said.

I would like to ask Hannah Borno (who actually snapped the above photo) the identity of the lady in the above photograph at the 2011 Bilderberg annual meeting. Let's examine and analyze the above image of this lady in white who looks straight out of central casting for some techno-fascist sci-fi movie.

West Virginia Might Just Save the Republic If Other Republican State Leaders Get on Board

In recent weeks, West Virginia has demonstrated incredible leadership in the fight to limit the administrative state’s ability to implement policies based on environmental, social, and governance criteria, a practice commonly referred to as ESG. The recent Supreme Court win in West Virginia v EPA challenges the ability of any federal agency to enact sweeping regulations without explicit Congressional authority. Following the decision, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey wasted no time taking on the Biden administration’s effort to push its environmental agenda through the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

While the AG is fighting ESGs in the court system, State Treasurer Riley Moore has been working to ensure thattaxpayer dollars do not support financial institutions trying to harm the fossil fuel industry. “As Treasurer, I have a duty to act in the best interests of the State’s Treasury and our people when choosing financial services for West Virginia,” Moore said. “Any institution with policies aimed at weakening our energy industries, tax base, and job market has a clear conflict of interest in handling taxpayer dollars.”

Earlier this year, Moore recommended that lawmakers pass Senate Bill 262, which authorizes the Treasurer to publish a Restricted Financial Institution List. The state legislature gave Moore the power to issue the list and disqualify any firm on the list from state banking contracts.

Moore initially identified six financial institutions potentially engaged in boycotts of energy companiesand provided them with written notice. These institutions had 30 days to submit additional information disputing their potential inclusion on the Restricted Financial Institution List. All six institutions submitted responses, which the Treasurer reviewed alongside each institution’s public policy statements.

Today the list of financial institutions no longer eligible to bid on banking contracts is on the Treasurer’s website.Moore has determined that BlackRock Inc., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo & Co. are engaged in boycotts of fossil fuel companies. Out of the six financial institutions initially served with notice, U.S. Bancorp was not placed on the List because it demonstrated to the Treasurer that it had eliminated policies against financing coal mining, coal power, and pipeline construction activities from its Environmental and Social Risk Policy.

“Each financial institution placed on the Restricted Financial Institution List today has published written environmental or social policies categorically limiting commercial relations with energy companies engaged in certain coal mining, extraction or utilization activities, rather than considering the financial or risk profile for each company,” Moore said. “These policies explicitly limit commercial engagement with an entire energy sector based on subjective environmental and social policies.”

West Virginia annually collects hundreds of millions of dollars in coal and other fossil fuel severance taxes, representing the third-largest revenue source on average for the state’s General Revenue Budget. During the most recent fiscal year, the nearly $769 million in severance taxes paid by coal, oil, and natural gas companies accounted for 13% of the $5.89 billion in General Revenue funds collected by the state — and that does not include income and other taxes also collected from the employment and economic activity these fossil fuel industries generate.

A recent report published by the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics found that in 2019, coal mining and coal-fired power generated $13.9 billion in total economic activity and supported nearly 33,000 jobs in West Virginia. “While the ‘Environmental, Social and Governance’ or ‘ESG’ movement might be politically popular in California or New York, financial institutions need to understand their practices are hurting people across West Virginia,” Moore said. “I simply cannot stand by and allow financial institutions working against West Virginia’s critical industries to profit off the very funds their policies attempt to diminish.”

West Virginia is furthest down the path of putting companies that seek to punish the fossil fuel industry on notice. Moore authored a letter to Climate Envoy John Kerry in May 2021, informing him that states were going to put the financial institutions on alert. Fifteen state treasurers and comptrollers signed on to the principles Moore expressed in the letter…

New York judge strikes down state rule allowing involuntary detention in quarantine camps

 

A New York judge on Thursday voided a state rule that allowed the government to create quarantine camps and to detain healthy people within them for indeterminate periods without review.

 

Rule 2.13 gave the New York commissioner of public health the power to enforce quarantine regulations. Under this rule, court documents assert, “[t]he commissioner has unfettered discretion to issue a quarantine or isolation for anyone, even if there is no evidence that person is infected or a carrier of the disease. Further, the commissioner sets the terms, duration, and location of the detention, not an independent magistrate."

 

The judge highlighted that the protocol marked a severe escalation from existing health measures the state took to combat the spread of COVID-19 earlier in the pandemic.

 

“Involuntary detention is a severe deprivation of individual liberty, far more egregious than other health safety measures, such as requiring mask wearing at certain venues,” the judge wrote, according to the Epoch Times.

 

Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul ordered the initial protocols to allow the state Department of Health to enforce the measures, the outlet noted. The government argued that the detainees received protections such as the right to a review and a lawyer, but the judge noted that they did not allow citizens to challenge their initial detention.

 

“These protections are after-the-fact and would force the detainee to exercise these rights at a time when he or she is already detained, possibly isolated from home and family, and in a situation where it might be difficult to obtain legal counsel in a timely manner,” the opinion read.

'Former Deputy Sheriff' in Stacey Abrams Ad Never Served in Law Enforcement in Georgia

A recent ad from a pro-Stacey Abrams PAC features a “former deputy sheriff” talking about how “dangerous” Georgia’s new constitutional carry law is.

I’ve heard the spot on the radio — a lot — but I hadn’t seen video of the ad, which is entitled “Dangerous” featured a “former deputy sheriff” identified only as “Dennis” wearing a navy blue jacket and driving around in a car. The vehicle and the outerwear are supposed to make you think he’s actually in law enforcement if you’re not looking closely enough.

 

“Dennis” intones the following somber words:

 

As a former deputy sheriff, I’ve seen all kinds of gun crimes. And I can tell you, Brian Kemp’s new law is dangerous. It makes it easier for criminals to carry loaded guns in public. At the movies. In church. No permit. No background check. And Mr. Kemp, I call that criminal carry. Brian Kemp may talk tough, but he makes us less safe. Because the last place we want more criminals with guns is here [pointing at the school he is standing in front of].

 

And of course, the only way to avoid this future in which everybody is just shooting up every building in Georgia is to elect Stacey Abrams.

 

There’s one thing about the ad that’s somewhat disingenuous. Not only has “Dennis” been out of law enforcement for nearly a quarter-century, but he also never served as a sheriff’s deputy in Georgia at all.

 

“‘Dennis’ is LGBT attorney and Democratic activist Dennis Collard, a Florida native who worked as a police officer in the Sunshine State from 1994-1999, his LinkedIn shows,” as Collin Anderson reports at the Washington Free Beacon. “Collard—who, according to his LinkedIn, uses pronouns he/him—went on to join an Atlanta-based law firm in 2003, roughly 13 years before he founded his own divorce firm in Atlanta.”

 

“Collard also filmed an ad for Abrams four years ago, filed a campaign finance complaint against Kemp in 2019, and contributed $500 to Abrams’s campaign in March,” Anderson points out.

 

How telling is it that Abrams had to find someone who hasn’t served in law enforcement for over 20 years and didn’t serve in Georgia to help her push for her policies? It doesn’t come as a shock to members of the law enforcement community in Georgia.

 

“I’m not surprised by that at all when you’ve got someone who talks about defunding the police. Defunding the police would be the worst thing for anybody to do in our state—it’s just absolutely ridiculous,” Jackson County, Ga., sheriff Janis Mangum told the Washington Free Beacon. “And for somebody to think like that, I don’t know that you’re going to have any law enforcement officers get behind you.”

 

Abrams has claimed that she wants to give police officers raises if she gets her shot to ruin Georgia, and that’s all well and good until you pair it with her work with the Marguerite Casey Foundation, a far-left group on whose board Abrams serves.

 

The foundation has pushed not only to defund the police but to abolish the police. It’s no wonder Abrams is having a hard time garnering support from Georgia’s law enforcement community.

 

Abrams is also having to go out of state for donors. Only 14% of her donations have come from within the state, compared to Gov. Brian Kemp, who has received 83% of his funds from Georgians. Remember that her pitch to ruin — I mean run — Georgia was that the Peach State was such a horrible place to live that Georgians should put her in charge of it. It shouldn’t surprise many people that she’s not as popular with the people of Georgia as she would like you to believe.

Earlier this year, the private executives at Google partnered up with the intergovernmental organization, the United Nations, in order to control the flow of information on the internet. This partnership was designed to guide users to “authoritative information” when they look up “climate change.”

 

“We are happy to collaborate with Google to ensure that factual, trustworthy content about climate change is available to as wide a global audience as possible,” said Melissa Fleming, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications. “Misinformation is so widespread these days that it threatens progress and understanding on many critical issues, including climate. The need for accurate, science-based information on a subject like climate change to rise to the top of searches has therefore never been greater.”

 

There is no shortage of misinformation on climate change out there on the internet but who is Google to decide what we can and cannot see? But maybe that’s the point. Maybe Google doesn’t want you to look behind the curtain at the world’s largest polluters — who happen to be major climate activists, like Google.

 

Last year, Google launched a climate initiative to help us lowly peasant class reduce our carbon footprint. Inaccurately laying the blame for carbon pollution on the individual, Google is engaging in a disingenuous practice that is common among elite mega-corporations.

 

Though, collectively, individual humans certainly add to pollution, the individual is statistically blameless. A single person’s carbon footprint is essentially non-existent compared to the likes of massive corporations and even single elite individuals who own private jets.

 

This is an extremely inconvenient truth for those who stand at their pulpits and demean the common folks for causing global warming — while they literally create more carbon in just hours than most people do in an entire year. Lest we forget, these are the same people telling us to eat bugs.

 

It is important to note that the Free Thought Project is not advocating for or against climate change — we are not climate scientists. However, we most certainly think that it is a topic worthy of discussion and research but never government force and certainly ripe for exposing hypocrisy.

 

While corporate pollution can manifest is countless ways, a young man on Twitter named Jack Sweeney, has found a way to track individual corporations and celebrities and calculate their carbon footprint using their private jets. Pfizer’s Quarterly Sales Surge to Record Highs

I do think, on the Breitbart, New York Post, Fox News rabbit hole of Hunter Biden which I don’t think anybody outside of that world understood. Last night, the Wall Street Journal reported that their review of all corporate records, showed no role for Joe Biden on the Chinese deal. If you read between the lines, Zucker really said this:

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker Signs Bill to Promote Abortions Up to Birth

Ignoring calls for a veto, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed a bill Friday that pro-life leaders warned will allow unborn babies to be aborted for basically any reason up to birth.

 

Baker, a pro-abortion Republican, praised the legislation in a statement, saying it will expand abortions in Massachusetts in response to the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade earlier this summer.

 

“Massachusetts remains steadfast in its commitment to protect access to reproductive health care services, especially in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade,” Baker said.

 

But Massachusetts Citizens for Life executive director Patricia D. Stewart slammed state House Bill 5090 as “deadly,” saying it will allow late-term abortions for basically any reason up to birth and force public colleges and universities to provide abortion drugs on campus.

Not Safe: UK Health Service Shuts Down Tavistock, Infamous for Child Trans Treatments

 

England’s National Health Service (NHS) is shutting down the infamous Tavistock clinic, the country’s key hub for child gender swapping treatment, but there is yet no indication of what will happen to the staff at the centre who permitted the scandals to take place.

 

The Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust’s Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) had become hugely controversial in recent years, with the number of girls, in particular, being diagnosed as having gender dysphoria increasing by 5,000 per cent in less than ten years, according to The Times.

 

Whistleblowers alleged that girls were deemed to be trans on such flimsy pretexts as not liking “pink ribbons and dollies”, with a former governor of the trust, Dr David Bell, warning that there was “virtually no psychological scrutiny at all” before children were shunted onto a pathway towards life-altering medication and surgery by some physicians.

 

The number of children seeking gender reassignment reportedly surged by another 20 per cent during the Wuhan virus lockdowns, and issues including a so-called “detransitioner” suing the Tavistock after she was “rushed” into gender reassignment after “roughly three” short sessions and “no real investigation” of any mental issues possibly underlying her teenage belief that she was born in the wrong body have plagued the clinic.

 

Consequently, the paediatrician leading a review of the GIDS has brought forward some of her recommendations early — possibly seeking to get ahead of a looming scandal, previously predicted by the likes of JK Rowling.

 

Chief among the recommendations from Dr Hilary Cass is that treatment at the Tavistock is “not a safe or viable long-term option” for patients and that its focus on gender identity has “overshadowed” considerations of other mental health issues.

UK National Security Adviser Warns of Sudden Nuclear War with Communist China

 

Britain’s official National Security Advisor, Sir Stephen Lovegrove, has warned that the risk of nuclear escalation is greater today than it was during the Cold War, particularly with respect to China.

 

Speaking to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C., the former top bureaucrat at the Ministry of Defence argued that the West “face[s] a much broader range of strategic risks and pathways to escalation” than during the Cold War, not least because, during that long-simmering conflict, the Soviet Union and its satellites reached something of a “shared understanding of doctrine” which made the threat of nuclear conflict more manageable — some notable flirtations with destruction notwithstanding.

 

He highlighted both “Russia’s repeated violations of its treaty commitments” and, perhaps more significantly, “the pace and scale with which China is expanding its nuclear and conventional arsenals and the disdain it has shown for engaging with any arms control agreements” as particularly dangerous, saying that nuclear doctrine today “is opaque in Moscow and Beijing, let alone Pyongyang or Tehran” — referring to the capitals of North Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

“[W]e have clear concerns about China’s nuclear modernisation programme that will increase both the number and types of nuclear weapon systems in its arsenal,” Sir Stephen said, saying that a China with a more sophisticated nuclear arsenal was a “daunting prospect”.

 

Indeed, while Britain officially retains only submarine-based strategic nuclear capabilities, other countries maintain or are working to develop sea, air, and land-based nuclear arms, both strategic and tactical — that is, designed to destroy fortifications and army and naval formations, and not just to level cities in a mutually destructive all-or-nothing exchange.

 

“During the Cold War, we benefited from a series of negotiations and dialogues that improved our understanding of Soviet doctrine and capabilities – and vice versa,” Sir Stephen explained, suggesting that the West could more easily stumble into a nuclear conflict in the present day almost by accident.

 

“This gave us both a higher level of confidence that we would not miscalculate our way into nuclear war. Today, we do not have the same foundations with others who may threaten us in the future – particularly with China,” he said of the current situation — endorsing U.S. President Joe Biden’s proposed talks with the communist regime as an “important step” and quoting wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill’s famous warning that it is best to have “jaw-jaw, not war-war”.

Iran Busted Another Network Of Israeli Mossad Spies

 

On July 28, Iran announced that it had arrested a spy network affiliated with the Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency.

 

The Intelligence Organization of the Law Enforcement Command, who made the arrest, did not give the nationality of spies, but said that they were members of Iranian separatist group that “has a history with the Zionist regime”.

 

“The Iranian police have arrested the chief and members of an espionage group affiliated with the Zionist regime,” the command said in a statement cited by the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency. “The group of five was encouraged by a separatist leader to get connected with the Zionist regime’s intelligence – Mossad.”

 

The members of the alleged network were reportedly collecting information on important and vital areas in Iran, motivated by financial temptation from the Mossad.

 

This is the second spy network that Iran claims to have arrested this week. On July 23, Iranian authorities arrested a Mossad network that was collaborating with the People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran and planned to carry out “unprecedented acts of sabotage and terrorist operations”. The network reportedly entered Iran from the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

 

Recently, Iran ramped up its counter-intelligence efforts in response to a series of assassinations and attacks, most of which were blamed on the Mossad.

 

Israel and Iran have been locked up in covert war for years with no end in sight. The Mossad and other Israeli intelligence agencies will not likely cease their operations in Iran even if the country reaches an agreement with the US on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.

WELCOME, Md. — A 16th week had passed with no arrest in the murder of Patrice Parker's son, another week in which she had struggled through grief for him and fear for herself and her surviving daughters.

 

It wasn't just that the person who had turned a gun on 24-year-old Markelle Morrow was still at large, but that so many other armed criminals were as well.

 

Shootings were ravaging the nation's capital, on track for its highest number of homicides in two decades. In Prince George's County, where Parker lives, carjackings had more than quadrupled since 2019.

 

But there was a place where she felt safe, and that was here, at a remote property amid thick woods an hour's drive south of her home in District Heights, Md. And there was no time the 52-year-old felt safer than when holding a weapon like the one her friend Mark "Choppa" Manley now handed her: a 9mm pistol similar to those that regularly ring out in neighborhoods experiencing the worst of the region's bloody summer.

 

"I've got some ammo for you," Manley said, "when you're ready."

 

There was a time when Parker never would have been ready. During a long career as a nursing aide she had cared for countless shooting victims. Like many Black women in Southeast Washington or just across the D.C. border in Prince George's County, she'd viewed guns for most of her life as the root of the violence that had wrecked countless lives in her community.

 

That changed, paradoxically, after her son was shot to death in a parking lot not far from her home. Exasperated with the police response and in despair over the sheer number of weapons on the streets, Parker decided there was only one way to protect what remained of her family. And that was to pick up a gun herself.

 

"I always felt like you needed to take the guns off the street. But the way things are now . . ." Parker's voice trailed off.

 

"I don't feel safe anymore," she said. "You can't trust nobody."

In September 1991, when I was CNN’s China bureau chief, then-U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi got me arrested. On a trip to Beijing with a congressional delegation, one of her colleagues alerted me that Pelosi and two other congressmen were planning to slip away from their official escorts and visit Tiananmen Square. But I was not told that her plan was, with news cameras rolling, to hold up a banner and lay flowers to commemorate students killed when the Chinese army crushed pro-democracy demonstrators there two years earlier.

After her gesture, Pelosi and the two other members of Congress drove off while furious Chinese police, unable to target a visiting foreign dignitary, roughly detained me and other reporters on the scene for several hours. It was my first experience with Pelosi’s penchant for high-profile gestures designed to poke China’s communist rulers in the eye—regardless of the consequences.

Now, at a much more dangerous moment and with vastly more at stake than a bruised reporter, Pelosi appears on the brink of staging a much more provocative gesture this August: visiting Taiwan. It would be the first trip by an U.S. official of her rank in 25 years, and it would come at a moment when Sino-American relations are at their lowest point in decades amid growing concern that China might attempt to seize the self-ruled island by force. Already, an infuriated Chinese government has warned of a forceful response if Pelosi goes, raising fears of a dangerous escalation in an already tense situation.

Yet, despite everything at stake, in Washington, the circumstances surrounding a possible Pelosi visit remain extremely muddled. Word of the Taiwan trip came in a Financial Times report based on a half-dozen anonymous sources, raising the question of who was willing to make the plan public and why. Did the initial leak come from Pelosi’s staff seeking additional publicity? Was it someone else in the government trying to torpedo the trip? Was it just a slip-up?
