WEF launches digital currency project to ‘reward’ climate action

 

The coalition includes 30 different groups and institutions merged to investigate how to leverage Web3 tech like cryptocurrencies and blockchain to help the world become carbon neutral.

 

“An important and unique aspect of Web3 is that it uses technology to support and reward direct community engagement and action,” said WEF head of digital assets Brynly Llyr.

 

The coalition will examine how to add “carbon credits” to the blockchain. Partners include Accenture, the Crypto Council for Innovation, Rainforest Partnership, the Sustainable Bitcoin Standard, Zero Labs and others.

 

The WEF has been scrutinized for promoting the COVID-19 pandemic to achieve a “great reset” where global economies use private and public organizations to fight climate change.

 

During this year’s forum, WEF speaker and Norwegian Finance CEO Kjerstin Braathen said people should expect “pain” and “energy shortages” as the world pursues the WEF’s climate change agenda.

 

“We need to accept that there will be some pain in the process,” Braathen said.

 

“The pace that we need [to end climate change] will open up for missteps. It will open up for shortages of energy. It will create inflationary pressures, and maybe we need to start talking about that — that pain is actually worth it.”

 

“Because if we don’t, there’s no business case; there’s no economy; there’s no welfare. But so far, I think we have been a little bit careful actually talking about the pain in the short term that is likely to come from this very important change.”

 

Its move into the digital currency space is not the only concerning WEF move. Other questionable ideas by the WEF include a call to end private car ownership and suggesting that the sun be blotted to cool the planet.

 

“MIT scientists say ‘space bubbles’ could help reverse climate change by reflecting the Sun’s heat away from Earth,” a WEF video explains.

 

“Scientists say cutting out just 1.8% of the Sun’s rays would fully reverse global warming.”

Biden Threatens Conservation Efforts By Appointing Gun Control Activist To Hunting And Wildlife Council

Ryan Busse claims to be a gun industry insider, but he has no interest in advocating for America’s hunters and riflemen.

President Joe Biden’s contempt for lawful gun ownership knows no bounds. His latest move threatens over a century of gains in wildlife conservation just to stick it to the firearm industry, which he once infamously labeled “the enemy.”

The White House appointed gun control activist Ryan Busse to the Hunting & Wildlife Council, an advisory committee that assists the Department of the Interior (DOI) and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) in crafting policies on issues including wildlife conservation, wildlife management and public lands access for hunting, recreational shooting and fishing. Busse was listed as an “unaffiliated” shooting sports adviser.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. Busse is a partisan gun control zealot. He’s an adviser to the Giffords gun control group, which demands a ban on the most popular selling semiautomatic rifle in America today — the Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR). There are more than 24.4 million of these rifles in circulation today, used for lawful purposes including self-defense, recreational target shooting, and — whether Busse wants to admit it or not — hunting.

Don’t expect Busse to advocate for hunters using these rifles on the council. He’s peddling a book, “Gunfight: My Battle Against the Industry that Radicalized America.” That’s the book where he takes exception to the firearm industry for producing variants of the AR-frame rifles in response to consumer demand. He claims insider knowledge since he was once a vice president for Kimber Manufacturing. Adoring media fawned over his epiphany that just this one particular type of firearm is “bad” in their views. It plays well at leftist cocktail parties.

It’s also earned him the rebuke of his former employer for dragging the rifle and pistol maker into the fray in which it never wanted to take part.

Politics over Policy

Busse’s claim as an industry executive insider is dubious. Among industry executives, his self-inflated value was vastly overstated. An overwhelming number of executives with decades of experience in the firearm industry had never heard of him. For that matter, neither did I, and I own a Kimber handgun that was manufactured while Busse was still with the company. Busse didn’t rise to attention until he delved into the world of politics.

Busse signed on to be an adviser to President Biden’s 2020 White House campaign. His political alliances didn’t stop there. Busse joined Giffords at the time when David Chipman, former agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) — turned gun control adviser for Giffords — was still under consideration to become ATF director. That nomination didn’t survive the confirmation hearings, and the Biden administration quietly withdrew Chipman’s name. Giffords’ direct attacks against NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, became more pointed and direct….

WEF launches digital currency project to ‘reward’ climate action

 

The World Economic Forum (WEF) made a big move in the digital currency space this week with the launch of the Crypto Sustainability Coalition.

The coalition includes 30 different groups and institutions merged to investigate how to leverage Web3 tech like cryptocurrencies and blockchain to help the world become carbon neutral.

 

“An important and unique aspect of Web3 is that it uses technology to support and reward direct community engagement and action,” said WEF head of digital assets Brynly Llyr.

 

The coalition will examine how to add “carbon credits” to the blockchain. Partners include Accenture, the Crypto Council for Innovation, Rainforest Partnership, the Sustainable Bitcoin Standard, Zero Labs and others.

 

The WEF has been scrutinized for promoting the COVID-19 pandemic to achieve a “great reset” where global economies use private and public organizations to fight climate change.

 

During this year’s forum, WEF speaker and Norwegian Finance CEO Kjerstin Braathen said people should expect “pain” and “energy shortages” as the world pursues the WEF’s climate change agenda.

 

“We need to accept that there will be some pain in the process,” Braathen said.

 

“The pace that we need [to end climate change] will open up for missteps. It will open up for shortages of energy. It will create inflationary pressures, and maybe we need to start talking about that — that pain is actually worth it.”

 

“Because if we don’t, there’s no business case; there’s no economy; there’s no welfare. But so far, I think we have been a little bit careful actually talking about the pain in the short term that is likely to come from this very important change.”

 

Its move into the digital currency space is not the only concerning WEF move. Other questionable ideas by the WEF include a call to end private car ownership and suggesting that the sun be blotted to cool the planet.

 

“MIT scientists say ‘space bubbles’ could help reverse climate change by reflecting the Sun’s heat away from Earth,” a WEF video explains.

 

“Scientists say cutting out just 1.8% of the Sun’s rays would fully reverse global warming.”

'We are done tolerating the … sexualization of our children': Armed protests arise outside 'all ages' drag bingo event hosted by Texas church

 

Over the weekend, a church in Texas became a lightning rod for protesters and counter-protesters alike when it invited members of "all ages" to a drag event to support so-called "trans and exploring" minors.

 

On Saturday evening, the First Christian Church of Katy, Texas, an affiliate of the Disciples of Christ denomination, held a bingo event featuring drag queens that was billed as fun for the whole family.

 

"We create a place for people to feel welcomed and understand that there will always be people who disagree with us," said Reverend Heather Tolleson, the pastor of the church.

 

The purpose of the bingo event — and the adults-only drag show later that night — was to raise funds for the church's "Transparent Closet," a resource where "trans and exploring teens, youth and young adults" can find cross-sex clothing, shoes, and accessories such as makeup.

 

The church itself claims to be "a place where all are welcome," and nearly all of the events and ministries listed on its website refer to LGBTQ issues in some way.

 

However, the all-ages drag event outraged many others in the community, including parents and members of other churches, who claim that drag queens and those who sponsor them have no business marketing such entertainment to children.

 

Rebecca Clark, a member of the Fort Bend-based County Citizens Defending Freedom, denounced the drag bingo event.

 

"We are done tolerating the exploitation and sexualization of our children in this country," Clark told the Epoch Times.

 

"Drag queens and children don’t mix,” added Sarah Feigleson of CCDF. “These events are happening in your back yard. Stand up and raise a respectful ruckus."

 

Along with CCDF, members of the Proud Boys protested the event, as did other churches. Several Catholics prayed the rosary.

On the other side of the street stood supporters of the family drag bingo day. Members of Antifa wore all black and obscured their faces. Others who were not associated with Antifa proudly showed their identities and their support for exposing kids to LGBTQ-themed entertainment.

 

"Drag in itself is just a costume," said one unnamed man wearing a face mask and holding a pride flag. "It's no different than someone dressed up like a superhero at a comic convention or someone who puts on a Halloween costume."

 

Both sides were heavily armed, and a steady police presence remained in the middle of the road to help keep the peace during drag bingo night. There were no reports of violence or arrests, and only church members were allowed to enter the property.

 

Though the event itself was controversial, there was yet another aspect of it that drew further ire from critics. The event was originally supposed to feature drag queen Tisha Flowers, aka Jaysen Kettl. Not only does Kettl now don a macabre persona when dressed as Flowers, but he also has a troubling past. Back in 2004, Kettl, then 17, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit capital murder after administrators at his school learned that he and at least one other student had plotted to commit a mass school shooting. Thankfully, the plot was foiled before anyone could carry it out.

 

However, once Kettl's criminal history was made known, the church quietly removed him from event promotions. It is unclear whether Kettl attended the event.

 

Despite the controversy, the event sold out and was deemed a success, Rev. Tolleson claimed.

"If I already know all the problems he has, why am going to let him allow him to get that shot?" Duarte said.

 

Duarte claims the shot re-awakened her son’s childhood asthma and bleeding condition. While next to her lawyer Wednesday, Duarte said she’s now suing the LAUSD, saying that even though she got the vaccine, she didn’t want it for her son.

‘Not Sustainable’: Texas Border City Expects To Spend $89 Million On Illegal Migrants In A Single Year

 

El Paso, Texas, expects to shell out $89 million to support illegal migrants over the course of one year, City Rep. Isabel Salcido said during a city council meeting Tuesday.

 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has reimbursed $237,000 of the city’s expenses for migrant support and hopes to receive an additional reimbursement of $5.4 million, according to a presentation given to the council during Tuesday’s meeting. The agency will also provide a $2,000,000 advance to the city.

 

“Hearing these numbers today, It’s clear to me and I think we can all agree that this is not sustainable to the taxpayer. It isn’t,” Salcido said.

 

“You’re talking about $250,000 a day; if this goes on for another year, that’s like $89 million. And I know we’re getting refunded but we’re playing catch-up,” she added

 

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered 1,656 illegal migrants per day on average in El Paso, according to the presentation. Seventy-percent of those encountered are Venezuelan.

 

The reason so many Venezuelan migrants are crossing into the U.S. illegally in large numbers is due to a “perception” that they’ll be released into the country, according to a recent internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memorandum obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

 

In handling the influx, El Paso has chartered buses to send illegal migrants to the cities of their choosing, which include Chicago, New York City, Albuquerque, Denver and Dallas. The city has bused over 3,800 illegal migrants at a cost of around $1.8 million.

Commercial flight options are extremely limited at present and are often unavailable on short notice. Overland routes by car and bus are still open. If you wish to depart Russia, you should make independent arrangements as soon as possible. The U.S. Embassy has severe limitations on its ability to assist U.S. citizens, and conditions, including transportation options, may suddenly become even more limited.

Russian diplomat warns Biden over pipeline incidents

US President Joe Biden should issue a reply as to whether the United States had carried out its threat over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

 

"US President Joe Biden must answer the question of whether the United States carried out its threat on September 25 and 26 when an emergency was reported at three lines of Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, which has been preliminarily recognized as ruptures, whereas he suggested those were blown up," the Russian diplomat said on her Telegram channel. On it, she posted a video in which the US leader delivers the speech in question.

 

"His statement of intent was backed up with a promise. One must be responsible for one’s words. Failure to understand what one says does not absolve anyone of responsibility. Europe must know the truth!" Zakharova emphasized.

 

On Tuesday, Nord Stream AG reported about "unprecedented damage" on Monday that affected three lines of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines registered within several hours. The first was identified along Nord Stream 2 near the Danish island of Bornholm, and two leaks were discovered afterwards. Denmark’s Energy Agency said a large amount of natural gas had streamed out. Aircraft and vessels were advised to stay at least five miles away from the site of the incident.

 

Later, Swedish seismologists said two explosions had been recorded along the routes of both pipelines on Monday. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen slammed the incidents as sabotage and warned that "any deliberate disruption is unacceptable [and] will lead to the strongest possible response."

Ahead of meetings with US officials in Washington, Science and Innovation Minister Orit Farkash-Hacohen and National Security Adviser Eyal Hulata said on Wednesday that they are initiating a process that will transform strategic technological cooperation between the countries, an area that has lagged behind Israel’s high-tech partnership with the European Union.

 

“The goal is to take full advantage of Israeli entrepreneurship and innovation in fields that are at the front of global challenges, together with our US counterparts and American industry,” said Hulata, speaking by phone with Israeli journalists.

 

They are accompanied on the trip by dozens of officials from government agencies, including the ministries of agriculture, energy, health, innovation, environmental protection, and defense. Israel’s Ambassador to Washington Michael Herzog is also participating.

 

Hulata and Farkash-Hacohen were slated to meet Wednesday with US Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Andrea Palm and Deputy Energy Secretary David Turk, as well as officials from relevant US departments, including the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy.

 

The meetings are the first major step in the initiative announced in the Jerusalem Declaration that US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Yair Lapid signed during Biden’s visit to Israel in July.

 

One of the stated goals of the document was to “form a US-Israel technological partnership in critical and emerging technologies, as well as in areas of global concern: pandemic preparedness, climate change, artificial intelligence and trusted technology.”

Emergency visits up relative to earlier years, agency says.

 

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and prevention this week said that physicians were observing sharp increases in serious respiratory illnesses among children, with emergency room visits among that demographic reportedly up relative to earlier years.

 

The CDC said in a news release on Tuesday that the summer of 2022 saw "increased emergency department visits by children and adolescents with acute respiratory illness and asthma/reactive airway disease."

 

The agency said enterovirus D68 was to blame for the increase in respiratory issues. EV-D68 was once rare but infections have been increasing in frequency in recent years.

 

The CDC said it was also observing an increase in acute flaccid myelitis, which it elsewhere characterizes as "an uncommon but serious neurologic condition" that "affects the nervous system, specifically the area of the spinal cord called gray matter, which causes the muscles and reflexes in the body to become weak."

 

"Health care facilities should be prepared for possible increases in pediatric health care use associated with severe EV-D68–associated respiratory illness," the agency urged, adding that "ast increases in EV-D68 circulation were also associated with increased reports of AFM."

I need to get one of those microphones that reporters that stand in the middle of parking lots during a hurricane use. For example, on Faux, there was a segment a few minutes ago. Incumbent Mark Kelly Struggles with Undecided Voters

Incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) needs to win undecided voters to defeat Trump-endorsed candidate Blake Masters in Arizona.

 

Throughout the race, Masters has remained within striking distance of Kelly despite Tuesday’s outlier polling that showed the incumbent up 7 points (49-42 percent). A closer look at the poll revealed 7 percent of the electorate are undecided. The number of undecideds are an important metric in a state where the incumbent has not sealed a majority of support from the electorate.

 

Newt Gingrich, the former GOP House speaker, wrote an op-ed in Newsweek this month predicting Masters “will defeat” Kelly by a “surprising margin” because Kelly has not convinced a large portion of the undecided voters to vote for him.

 

“When an incumbent senator is only two points ahead of a challenger who just came out of a tough primary, it is clear the incumbent is vulnerable,” Gingrich analyzed in reference to a Trafalgar Group poll showing Masters just 1.2 percentage points behind Kelly.

 

“Furthermore, an incumbent who cannot get above 50% is even more vulnerable. James Carville once said a well-known incumbent gets whatever their final poll number is—they don’t get any of the undecideds,” Gingrich continued. “If that is true, Kelly will likely lose 53% to 47%.”

 

To make matters worse for Kelly, the state of Arizona has an outsized number of independent voters who are not completely sold on Kelly’s alliance with the Biden administration’s open southern border. August was the fifth month in a row in which migrant apprehensions exceeded 180,000 migrants. Nearly 2 million illegal migrants crossed the southern border this fiscal year.

Independent voters, who amount to 1.4 million in Arizona, “have helped push the state from reliably red to tossup, and now make up about a third of the voting population,” the New York Times reported Wednesday.

 

Independents are breaking for Kelly over Masters by nine percentage points (46-37 percent), according to a recent Emerson College poll. But Kelly’s overall slim lead against Masters shows that Kelly remains vulnerable with 41 more days until election day.

On Tuesday, Breitbart News reported Kelly will be exposed by the Women Speak Out PAC for his pro-abortion position with a $1 million ad blitz in Phoenix from September 25 to October 5.

Tim Sharp, a conservative fighter and former state House candidate,was “improperly disqualified”from the ballot in House district 19 by the Florida Division of Elections (DOE), a federal complaint filed on August 6 states.

 

Sharp is suing both the DOE and Florida’s Secretary of State to hold the establishment in Tallahassee, Florida, accountable. Harmeet Dhillon of the Dhillon Law Group, a strong ally of the America First movement, is representing Sharp in the suit.

 

Sharp told Breitbart Newshe was blocked in June from ballot eligibilitybecause not all of Florida’s institutions are as conservative as Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) office. “This is the next phase of the corruption,” Sharp slammed the Florida establishment uniparty, which he believes prevented him from challenging the presumptive establishment Florida House speaker, State Rep. Paul Renner (R). Establishment Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls and Renner are political allies.

 

“From the very beginning I knew I was running against a machine,” Sharp stated. “The establishment political groups had made their selection and my candidacy against their chosen future speaker of the house designate was not welcome.”

 

The lawsuit alleges the DOE “violated Florida law and its own policies to disqualify Sharp based on a determination by DoE employees thatSharp’s qualification check did not appear to be drawn on a campaign account”:

 

Sharp’s disqualification was not only wrong legally because it violated law and policy, it was wrong factually because Sharp’s check was drawn on his campaign account. … __Despite the clear prohibitions against DoE officials making such determinations themselves–, the DoE violated Florida law and its own policies to disqualify Sharp based on a determination by DoE employees that Sharp’s qualification check did not appear to be drawn on a campaign account.

 

The lawsuit seeks damages and a “declaratory judgment” that the DOE wrongly blocked Sharp from the ballot and “violated Florida statutory law and Sharp’s rights under the Florida and Federal Constitutions.”

 

State Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R), who has fought the establishment in Tallahassee, called the lawsuit a needed step to check “RINOS’ deranged effort to keep another freedom fighter from office.”

 

“This is just one more attack on the people of Florida who are tired of Sprowls and Renner protecting the swamp from being drained. I’m glad to see Tim Sharp fighting back with the Dhillon Law Group,” Sabatini told Breitbart News.

 

Sharp plans to launch a second campaign in 2024. He is weighing a bid either for state house or U.S. Congress. His website states Sharp is a strong advocate of the second amendment, school choice, medical freedom, the right to life, and term limits.

 

“I don’t answer to PACs (political action committees) or special interest groups. My special interest has always been the people” Sharp said in a press release.

 

The case is Timothy Sharp v. Secretary of State of Florida and Florida Division of Elections, No. 3:22-cv-00959 in the United States District Court of Middle District of Florida.

Kremlin says Nord Stream explosions ‘a big problem for Russia’

 

Damage to the natural gas pipelines will bring nothing but ruin for both Russia and EU, says spokesperson Dmitry Peskov

Moscow has denounced as “stupid and absurd” any allegations of it being behind the suspected explosions of the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines earlier this week, stating that the incident actually creates many issues for Russia.

 

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov explained that the damage to the pipelines posed a “big problem” for Russia as it had essentially lost its gas supply routes to Europe.

 

Both lines of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline were pumped full of gas and were prepared to deliver it to Europe at the time of the alleged explosion, said Peskov, adding that “this gas is very expensive and now it is all going up in the air.”

 

Peskov also noted that neither Russia nor Europe had anything to gain from the destruction of the pipelines, especially Germany, for which this incident poses a threat to the future development of its industry, as well as its profitability and competitiveness.

 

American LNG suppliers, on the other hand, have been making incredible profits after having multiplied their deliveries to the European continent, Peskov pointed out, adding that these companies are “very interested in maintaining these super-duper profits in the future.”

 

While no suspects behind the incident have officially been named, the Kremlin spokesperson advised against making any official announcements before a proper investigation into the incident is carried out.

 

Peskov did, however, draw attention to US President Joe Biden’s statements from early February, when the American leader threatened to “bring an end” to Nord Stream 2. “What the US president meant by that, we don’t know,” admitted the Kremlin official, but highlighted the “borderline insane hysterical-euphoric reaction” of Polish officials who have already thanked Washington for sabotaging the pipeline.

 

The Kremlin’s response comes after some European and Kiev officials, including President Vladimir Zelensky’s adviser Mikhail Podolyak, suggested that the attack on the pipeline was a “false flag” operation carried out by Russia in order to make Ukraine look bad and to further drive energy prices up in the EU.

 

However, after the former Polish FM publicly thanked the US for the apparent sabotage on Twitter, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova urged the EU to treat the US as the possible culprit behind the attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines. She said Moscow would call for a UN Security Council session over the incident.

 

A number of Western nations have repeatedly opposed Russia’s undersea pipelines delivering gas to Europe, both before and after Moscow launched its military operation in Ukraine. The recently built Nord Stream 2 network, which never went into operation due to Germany’s refusal to certify it, has drawn particular opposition from countries like the US and Poland, which has called for the pipeline to be “totally scrapped.”

Corruption allegations engulfing Indonesian provincial governor Lukas Enembe spread to Perth casino

 

Indonesia has for weeks been transfixed by a corruption scandal involving a provincial governor, accused of spending tens of millions of dollars in foreign casinos despite an official salary of less than AUD$1,000 a month.

Now the scandal has spread to Australia, where Indonesian investigators confirmed they were examining transactions at the Crown Casino in Perth, and suspicious bank deposits in Perth and Melbourne.

 

The accusations are among a series of explosive allegations against Lukas Enembe, who has been the governor of Indonesia's Papua province since 2013.

 

Lawyers for Mr Enembe have dismissed all allegations against him.

 

They denied Governor Enembe had pocketed public money, and said the allegations were politically motivated.

 

Enembe, 55, is suspected of misappropriating at least 560 billion rupiah (AUD$56 million) since 2017, and spending much of it in casinos in at least two countries, including Singapore and Australia.

 

But authorities have told the ABC the total amount under investigation was in the "trillions of rupiah," or hundreds of millions of dollars.

 

Anti-corruption authorities in Jakarta are investigating where the money came from, and whether Governor Enembe has siphoned the money from a 'special autonomy fund' allocated each year by the Indonesian government for development projects and operational funding in Papua.

Millions allegedly spent at Perth casino under investigation

 

Indonesia's Centre for Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis (PPATK) last week revealed it was investigating several suspicious money trails over the past five years, involving Lukas Enembe's own personal bank accounts, or accounts he allegedly controls.

 

Authorities have confirmed to the ABC that they were investigating the source of money Lukas Enembe allegedly spent at the Perth Casino, amounting to about $500,000 a year since 2017. They claim the money was deposited in cash into bank accounts in Perth and Melbourne.

 

One source told the ABC that Mr Enembe was suspected of spending the funds on more than just betting in casinos.

 

"Not all the money he spent for the gambling, it includes assets," the ABC was told.

 

Indonesia's Anti-Corruption Commission (the KPK) is investigating all of Lukas Enembe's financial assets in Australia. It is not clear whether he has property in Australia under his name.

8th EU Sanctions, Oil Price Cap Will "Make Kremlin Pay" For 'Sham' Referendums: Von Der Leyen

 

European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday touted that newly prepared EU sanctions will "make the Kremlin pay" for conducting its "sham" referendums in occupied Ukraine. Russian media the evening prior declared a sweep in favor of four regions joining the Russian Federation - including Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. President Putin is expected to announce their integration into Russia in a Friday speech.

 

"We do not accept the sham referenda and any kind of annexation in Ukraine, and we are determined to make the Kremlin pay for this further escalation," von der Leyen told a scheduled press briefing in Brussels.

 

She announced a proposed eighth round of sanctions in a package that includes an expanded ban on Russian products and key technology, particularly out of Russia's aviation, electronics, and chemical products sectors. The new package when implemented is "expected to deprive Moscow of an additional 7 billion euros ($6.7 billion) in revenues," according to the EC chief's announcement.

 

The new package also includes a range of targeted sanctions on Russian ministry and military officials, including officials responsible for organizing the Ukraine referendums. Additionally, EU nationals will be barred from having high-paying roles in Russian state-owned companies.

 

Perhaps more important, and controversial given the fresh sanctions would need unanimous approval by the EU’s 27 member states before implementation, is the oil price cap. Currently, partial prohibitions targeting Russian crude will kick in on December 5th. Though it doesn't extend directly to shipping, a June sanctions package saw EU countries agree to block European companies from providing insurance and financial services for Russia's seaborne oil.

 

In the Wednesday announcement, von der Leyen previewed, "We are laying the legal basis for this oil price cap." This as Bloomberg is confirming this would include "a price cap for Russian oil sold to third countries." But therein lies the biggest hurdle towards its passage as member states like Hungary have long warned that dramatic changes in its predictable energy supply levels received from Gazprom would put Hungary's entire economy at risk.

 

As Bloomberg observed last week, when the price cap plan again came into central focus amid Putin's 'partial mobilization' and escalation in Ukraine: "Representatives of national governments in Brussels will aim to reach a preliminary deal on the price cap ahead of an informal gathering of EU leaders in Prague on Oct. 6, the people said. But one of the biggest question marks will be Hungary, which has often played the spoiler when unanimous decisions are needed in the EU."

 

In response to the European Commission's eighth sanctions package rollout announcement, the Biden administration says it is prepared once again to partner in imposing "severe economic costs on Russia over its sham referendums," according to the words of the Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination Jim O'Brien.

Oil Rigs In Norway's North Sea Buzzed By Mysterious Drones

Norway has displaced Russia as Europe's top natural gas supplier as energy supply chains are rejiggered. According to Daily Mail, being the biggest supplier to the energy-stricken continent comes with risks, as the Scandinavian country's oil and gas rigs in the North Sea have been buzzed by mysterious drones.

 

The country's Petroleum Safety Authority warned these mysterious drones could unleash "deliberate attacks" on critical energy infrastructure and or even smash into a helicopter on an offshore oil rig to wreak havoc.

 

Energy minister Terje Aasland explained the government is "increasing security at infrastructure sites, land terminals and platforms on the Norwegian continental shelf."

 

Drones have buzzed at least six of Norwegian energy giant Equinor's offshore platforms, coming within the security perimeter of 500 meters. One drone flew within 50 meters of the Heidrun platform in the Norwegian Sea. The company notified authorities of drone sightings.

 

"The Scandinavian country has a vast network of pipelines linking it to the continent, which experts have said are at risk of sabotage," Daily Mail said.

 

This report comes as US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm alerted EU countries to increase security around energy assets, including LNG carriers en route to Europe.

The FBI raided nearly 1,400 safe-deposit boxes at the U.S. Private Vaults store in Beverly Hills.

 

Invasion of Privacy

The Feds rummaged through the personal belongings of a jazz saxophone player, an interior designer, a retired doctor, two Century City lawyers, a flooring contractor, and hundreds of others. They took photos of items like password lists, credit cards, prenuptial agreements, pay stubs, immigration and vaccination records, heirlooms, bank statements, and even a will. Agents even discovered cremated human remains in one of the boxes.

 

Newly unsealed court documents have shown that FBI agents misled the judge who signed the warrant to raid the safe-deposit boxes. They did not disclose the fact that they planned to permanently confiscate everything inside every box that had at least $5,000 in cash or goods. The justification for the confiscation was the presumption that hundreds of unknown box holders were storing assets that may or may not be tied to unknown crimes.

 

Where's the Proof?

It took a total of five days for agents to finish filling their evidence bags. They collected more than $86 million in cash, gold, silver, rare coins, gem-studded jewelry, and plenty of expensive watches. The U.S. attorney's office tried to block public disclosure of court papers that exposed the deception, but the judge rejected the request to keep the documents sealed.

 

The deception originally came to light in FBI documents and depositions of agents in class action lawsuits by box holders who claim the raid violated their rights. Court filings also revealed that the federal agents defied restrictions put in place by U.S. Magistrate Judge Steve Kim by searching through the owners' belongings for evidence of crimes.

 

Robert Frommer, a lawyer who is representing nearly 400 of the box holders, had this to say about the situation:

 

"The government did not know what was in those boxes, who owned them, or what, if anything, those people had done. That's why the warrant application did not even attempt to argue there was probable cause to seize and forfeit box renters' property."

 

The Original Investigation

The two-year investigation opened in 2019. The FBI LA office leaders believed that U.S. Private Vaults had become a magnet for criminals hiding their stolen goods in their boxes. The business was formally charged with conspiracy to sell drugs and launder money.

 

Denial of Wrongdoing

The FBI and the U.S. attorney's office deny any wrongdoing, saying that they had no obligation to disclose their plans for indiscriminate confiscation to the judge. They defended their actions on the blanket assumption that every customer was hiding crime-tainted assets.

 

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the warrants were lawfully executed "based on allegations of widespread criminal wrongdoing."

 

"At no time was a magistrate misled as to the probable cause used to obtain the warrants," she said.

 

U.S. Private Vaults plead guilty to conspiracy to launder drug money, and the investigation is ongoing. Plaintiffs in the class-action suit have asked District Judge R. Gary Klausner to declare the raid unconstitutional. If the judge grants the request, the FBI will be forced to hand over all of the assets that it confiscated in the raid.

 

The ruling would also block any criminal investigations by preventing prosecutors from using any evidence or information acquired in the raid, including guns and drugs.

Brussels ‘imposes’ anti-Russia sanctions on EU members – Orban

Europeans have had no say in the application of these sanctions but are paying the price, the Hungarian prime minister has said

 

The EU has forced anti-Russia sanctions upon the people of the bloc’s member states, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Wednesday, as he announced the launch at home of national consultations on the matter.

 

Brussels did not ask Europeans about their opinion on the sanctions policy but made them pay the price as restrictions it imposed on Russia backfired, Orban said, in a series of posts on Facebook. The EU sanctions introduced over Russia’s military operation in Ukraine “will cause huge damage to Europe,” he warned, adding that the restrictions had already made “Europeans poorer” because of skyrocketing energy prices.

 

“It is time to get honest about it with our American friends. Until it is too late,” the prime minister said, pointing to the role the US played in the global sanctions campaign against Russia. The sanctions have failed to end the conflict in Ukraine, Orban argued, adding that they also appear to hurt Europe more than Russia.

 

Hungary is heavily dependent on Russian energy supply. It has also been one of the staunchest opponents of Brussels’ energy sanctions against Moscow and in particular opposed banning imports of Russian oil until it was granted a waiver by Brussels. Budapest still declared a state of emergency over tightening energy supplies this summer.

 

On Wednesday, Orban confirmed the plans to hold the national consultations on the EU sanctions imposed against Russia, saying that he’d ask “everyone to have their say, because we can only put an end to rising energy prices by acting together.” Hungary is the first EU nation to do so.

 

The developments come amid an ongoing energy crunch in the EU. Since the start of Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine in late February, gas prices have climbed to record highs in Europe.

 

In late July, EU member states agreed on a plan to reduce their gas consumption by 15% over the coming months, to increase the bloc’s energy security at a time when it seeks to rid itself of its dependence on Russian energy.

 

Russia also reduced its gas exports to Europe, citing technical issues related to sanctions the West imposed over Russia’s military action. Massive gas leaks on the Russian Nord Stream pipelines, which have allegedly been a result of a targeted attack, has sent gas prices in Europe further up.

 

The prices have been climbing up for quite some time, leaving some EU nations, including Germany –the EU’s economic powerhouse– in a bind. In early September, Germany’s largest gas importer, Uniper, requested additional financial aid from the government as it was struggling to replace missing Russian gas supplies despite already receiving billions of euro to cover gas purchases.

 

The operators of the Large Hadron Collider – the European nuclearresearch center (CERN) – also admitted in September that the ongoing energy crisis threatens the operation of the world’s largest particle accelerator. It could be shut down to decrease the energy consumption burden at peak demand periods, CERN said at that time.

Provo man arrested for ritualistic child sexual abuse

PROVO, Utah (ABC4) – A Provo man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection to ritualistic child sexual abuse that allegedly took place in Utah over the course of 20 years dating back to 1990.

 

David Lee Hamblin, 68, is reportedly a former therapist who used to work closely with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

 

Officers with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) arrested Hamblin Wednesday in connection with multiple incidents of child sexual abuse, following a new investigation that the UCSO announced in late May 2022.

 

Back in 2012, Hamblin was faced with 18 Felony charges relating to child sexual abuse, but those charges were dismissed. Hamblin then tried to get his record expunged in court during August 2022.

 

The victims in the alleged abuse in that case ranged from 5 to 13-years-old during the time of abuse.

 

This year, the UCSO says that they’ve been investigating reports of “ritualistic child sexual abuse” and trafficking that allegedly occurred in Utah County, Juab County and Sanpete County between 1990 and 2010.

 

In April 2021, an investigation began into ritualistic child sexual abuse and child sex trafficking that happened in Utah County, deputies say. A portion of those allegations was confirmed.

 

“It’s hard to believe that somebody would do this to another human being,” Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the UCSO tells ABC4. “It’s very, very disturbing.”

 

The allegations are now being investigated by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with other local and federal agencies.

 

The term “ritualistic” means that more than one person is involved, the abuse is considered organized, and there may be a religious element to the abuse.

 

“It’s typically by a group of people, you know, two or more people that are involved in it, and not just, you know, somebody’s uncle or brother, or sister or whatever, that’s involved in individual cases, or incidents of abuse, but more of an organized effort,” Sgt. Cannon said.

 

Officials say they are “pleading” with the public and encouraging victims, or people with knowledge of these crimes, to contact the UCSO Special Victim’s Unit so they can be offered assistance.

 

“We have gotten to the point where we believe we have been able to verify some of the information that we’ve been told, and has led us to believe that it’s likely that there are others out there who have been victimized and may have been intimidated or threatened into silence and we want to help them,” Sgt. Cannon said.

 

“Where those calls will lead. We don’t know yet. But we’ll follow the information that is given to us and take it where wherever it leads,” Sgt. Cannon said.

Hamblin was booked into jail on the following charges:

 

Sodomy of a Child (1st Degree Felony), Three Counts

Rape of a Child (1st Degree Felony), One Count

Lewdness Involving a Child (Class A Misdemeanor), One Count

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — There are too many monetary payment errors by North Carolina’s unemployment office for its chief jobless benefits program, according to a state auditor’s report released Wednesday.

 

The performance audit of the state Division of Employment Security examined the North Carolina Unemployment Insurance program from April 2016 through March 2021. Auditors also recommended actions by the division to improve payment accuracy.

 

The program claims are paid for with state unemployment taxes from employers and administered using federal funds.

 

The division scrutinizes intensely several hundred claims annually, with the results forwarded to the U.S. Labor Department. The samples estimate the accuracy of paid claims throughout the entire program.

 

While the program paid nearly $2.2 billion in claims during the entire period, an estimated $384 million in payments were considered improper, the report from State Auditor Beth Wood’s office said, either through issuing too much money to benefit applicants or too little.

 

That equates to an average improper payment rate of 17.6%, well above the division’s obligated limit of less than 10% of paid claims, according to the report. The program exceeded that mandated level in each of the years examined.

 

The result is the division incurred about $166 million in improper payments over and above the federal limit, Wood’s office said.

 

“Consequently, these public funds were not used for the intended purpose of providing financial assistance to unemployed North Carolinians in times of need,” Wood’s auditors wrote. Exceeding the rate doesn’t result in immediate penalties from the federal government.

 

The audit didn’t examine payments from federal pandemic unemployment programs run by the state but paid for entirely by the federal government. The pandemic-related programs cut the overwhelming number of displaced worker payments in 2020.

 

Wednesday’s findings aren’t surprising, given that the U.S. Labor Department already identified North Carolina’s program as “high-rate/high impact” due to its rate. In turn the state receives targeted assistance to reduce the rate.

 

Still, the review attributes nearly all of the overpayments to three points in the process of a displaced worker applying for and receiving weekly benefit payments.

Russia on Wednesday called for a United Nations Security Council meeting over the Nord Stream pipeline "sabotage," on which Moscow officials are blaming the United States.

 

The Nord Stream 1 and 2 natural gas pipelines that run from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea on Tuesday each reportedly started leaking after reports of blasts.

 

Russian Foreign Minister Maria Zakharova asked via Telegram whether former Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski's speculation that the United States was behind the pipeline leaks is an "official statement about a terrorist attack.

 

Zakharova also posted footage of Biden from early February when he said that the United States would "bring an end" to the Nord Stream pipeline if Russia invades Ukraine.

 

Former President Trump on Wednesday also reposted the video of Biden's comments with the caption: "Wow, what a statement. World War III anyone?"

 

Russia's foreign minister also posted footage of Deputy U.S. Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who said in January that "if Russia invades Ukraine, one way or another, Nord Stream 2 will not move forward."

 

In February, Biden in a White House statement, made clear his plan was to "impose sanctions" on the company that runs and owns the pipeline, Nord Stream 2 AG, and its corporate officers.

 

"These steps are another piece of our initial tranche of sanctions in response to Russia's [war] actions in Ukraine," he said.

 

Russia's Deputy U.N. Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy on Wednesday said he called of an "urgent" Security Council meeting, scheduled for Friday, to discuss the pipeline.

Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Michael J. “Ozzie” Myers was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison by a judge who questioned whether he had learned any lessons over the years. Myers admitted he had worked with election officials to pad the vote tallies of his political consulting clients. Some were running for city judgeships.

 

“Myers would solicit payments from his clients in the form of cash or checks as ‘consulting fees,’ and then use portions of these funds to pay election officials to tamper with election results,” U.S. Attorney Jacqueline Romero said in a statement after the hearing.

 

“Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy. If even one vote has been illegally cast or if the integrity of just one election official is compromised, it diminishes faith in process,” she said.

 

Myers pleaded guilty in June to violations of election law, conspiracy, bribery and obstruction for his work on behalf of Democratic candidates from 2014 and 2018. There was no evidence the crimes changed the outcome of any election, his lawyer said.

YouTube Targets Russell Brand One Day Before His Show Debuts on Rumble

British comedian, actor, and free-speech advocate Russell Brand has run afoul of the speech police at YouTube.

 

Brand announced on Tuesday that the giant video platform took one of his videos down for “misinformation” one day before his video show was set to debut on competing platform Rumble.

 

Naturally, YouTube censored him for bucking The Narrative™ surrounding COVID-19.

 

“Earlier this month we did a video about the changing narratives around COVID, the pandemic, and COVID treatments in which we cited information on official government websites, which we misinterpreted,” he said, as the Post Millennial reported.

 

“I’ll have to be careful talking about it now,” Brand continued. “I don’t want to make the same mistake that’s had one of your videos pulled down and an official warning issued.”

 

Brand asserted that he and his viewers have been “persecuted” for promoting what YouTube deems misinformation.

 

At the same time, Brand announced that his show, Stay Free With Russell Brand, would move to Rumble beginning Sept. 28. Brand removed both the original video and his apology video from YouTube and will host those on Rumble along with new episodes of his show.

 

“So both of those videos, you can watch right now on Rumble. They still live on Rumble. That’s the reason we’re joining them because they’re not going to censor our content,” he announced.

 

“I believe we’re at a point of crisis and things need to radically change fast, and I believe we’ll be able to communicate our message more freely on Rumble,” Brand continued. “And this misinformation strike and take down demonstrates exactly what it is we’re talking about. We made an error, in my opinion, a relatively small error, and we’re being penalized for it. That looks like censorship.”

 

Another advantage to Rumble is that video content appears on the site more quickly than it does on YouTube. Brand is promising to stream one hour a day on the platform.

Traffic in Bosphorus Suspended Due to Bulker Breakdown, Coastguard Says

 

Traffic across the Bosphorus Strait was suspended on Wednesday after a Bulker named Viva Eclipse en route to Russia experienced problems passing near the Üsküdar district, the coast guard announced.

 

According to authorities, the steering wheel of the vessel was blocked for an unspecified reason.

The expansive effort is the newest endeavor of the U.S. Army’s Project Convergence, a flagship modernization learning, experimentation and demonstration campaign. The Army led its first large-scale Project Convergence experiment in 2020, and has continued to grow the scope, scale and complexity of the event annually.

 

“Project Convergence 2022 is an all-service experiment that includes Special Operations Forces, and our U.K. and Australian partners. Using existing and emerging technologies from space to land and sea, PC22 will experiment with capabilities that protect against air and missile threats as well as those that will allow us to defeat anti-access defenses,” said Lt. Being in Central Florida, we've seen more than our fair share of Hurricanes. It seemed odd to me, that the Ian was not deemed a Category 5 when the eyewall went thru several upgrades, and the pressure dropped in the last 5 hours before landfall.

Major airline allows male staff to wear skirts

Virgin Atlantic is permitting its personnel to wear any uniform in which they feel comfortable

 

In a bid to become “the most inclusive airline in the skies,” British Virgin Atlantic scrapped rules on Wednesday requiring its staff to wear gender-specific uniforms.This means male personnel may now wear red skirt suits to work.

 

The company, which is owned by billionaire Richard Branson, announced that it would update its gender identity policies to “champion individuality,” enabling its employees to wear clothing that “expresses how they identify.”

 

According to the airline’s press release, personnel are now free to choose any company-approved uniform, “no matter their gender, gender identity or gender expression.” The uniforms have been created for Virgin by British designer Dame Vivienne Westwood.

 

The updated policies also provide an option for both Virgin Atlantic staff and passengers to wear pronoun badges to make sure they are addressed with consideration for their gender identity.

 

The airline’s ticketing systems will also allow people with a gender-neutral marker in the passport to use ‘U’ or ‘X’ gender codes on their booking, as well as the gender-neutral title ‘Mx’. This feature, however, is available only in a handful of countries, including the US, India and Pakistan.

 

In addition, Virgin Atlantic has updated its “trans inclusion policies,” entitling members of this community to time off for medical treatments related to gender transition, and allowing them to choose changing and shower facilities.

 

The move, however, has been met with criticism by some members of the public who consider the decision to be controversial or even see it as “woke madness.”

 

The amendment of Virgin Atlantic’s policies comes after major US airlines agreed in July to update their systems by 2024 to enable clients to buy tickets with an “X” gender marker, which means the passenger considers themselves to be neither male nor female.

On September 12, human rights watchdog Safeguard Defenders published their latest report on the phenomenon of Chinese transnational policing.

 

The group revealed that over the past year, China had set up dozens of overseas “service stations” in order to police Chinese nationals living abroad, including three such facilities in Toronto.

 

According to the report, Beijing has been attempting to “combat the growing issue of fraud and telecommunication fraud by Chinese nationals living abroad,” with 230,000 being “persuaded to return” to China to face criminal charges between April 2021 and July 2022 alone.

 

On September 2, a new law was passed in China giving the government more authority when it comes to handling online fraud committed by Chinese citizens overseas. It is set to come into effect on December 1.

 

One way the government keeps tabs on citizens in other countries is via the aforementioned “service stations,” which are operated by either the Fuzhou or Qingtian Public Security Bureaus.

 

According to the report, as of September 2022, there are fifty-four such stations located in thirty countries.

 

While most nations have only one or two stations, Canada is unique in that it has three, all located in Toronto.

 

According to the National Post, the locations of Toronto’s stations render them nearly invisible to the public. One is listed as a private home, the second a largely Chinese mall, and the third in the office of a Chinese non-profit.

 

China has defended the practice of setting up what are essentially police stations in other countries, saying that the majority of the work done there is akin to what would take place at an embassy, however not many are convinced, given the regime’s record.

 

Safeguard Defenders pointed out in their report that while China’s actions were taken under the guise of fighting crime, in some cases citizens living overseas who had not been charged with anything were harassed, and eventually “persuaded” to return to China.

 

Charles Burton, who formerly served as a diplomat at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, warned that China was “extending the grip of its Orwellian police state into this country,” and slammed Canada’s national security agencies for their lack of action.
