China mocks G7

With the eyes of the world on the G7, Beijing reminded the West that it’s outnumbered by its competitors

 

Amid high-profile meetings of the G7 and NATO leaders, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian posted an image on Tuesday pointing out that despite being referred to as β€œinternational society,” the G7 countries actually account for a small percentage of the world’s population.

After the summit in Germany over the weekend, the G7 leaders departed for Madrid, where the US-led NATO alliance is meeting to draft its new Strategic Concept – a document that outlines its mission and stance toward non-members. In its first update since 2010, the document will address China as a β€œchallenge,” and according to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, β€œwill make clear that allies consider Russia as the most significant and direct threat to our security.”

 

Just days before the G7 summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the leaders of Brazil, India, and South Africa, met virtually for the less-reported summit of the BRICS nations. The group, denoted by an acronym composed from the first letter of its member nations’ names, includes four of the world’s top ten economies and represents more than 40% of the planet’s population and 30% of its GDP.

 

While the BRICS group is not a formal alliance in a military or economic sense, its members are often united in opposition to the Western consensus. Save for Brazil, none of the BRICS nations voted with the US and its allies to condemn Russia’s military operation in Ukraine at the UN General Assembly in March, for example, and China and India have stepped up their trade links with Russia since then.

 

The bloc may soon expand too.Argentina and Iran applied last week for membership, with the Iranian Foreign Ministry describing BRICS as a β€œvery creative mechanism with broad aspects,” and Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez said that the platform could β€œimplement an agenda for the future that will lead to a better and fairer time.”

Elon Musk has reinstated the Twitter accounts of a half dozen journalists who had been briefly suspended for showing how to track the location of the billionaire’s private jet.

The Twitter CEO lifted the ban to most of the users early Saturday based on the results of a 24-hour Twitter survey he posted Friday night where he asked if the accounts should be reinstated immediately or in seven days. More than 58% of voters urged him to unsuspend the journalists β€œnow.”

β€œThe people have spoken,” Musk tweeted at 12:18 a.m. Saturday. β€œAccounts who doxxed my location will have their suspension lifted now.”

New York Times reporter Ryan Mac, CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan, The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell and other journalist’s accounts were back up and running just after Musk made the announcement.

β€œI want to thank everyone for all the support and kind words over the past day and some change,” said independent journalist Aaron Rupar, one of those who had been suspended.

But political pundit Keith Olbermann’s account was still suspended early Saturday morning. It wasn’t immediately clear why.

Olbermann’s final Twitter post encouraged users to recreate Harwell’s tweet that resulted in his suspension, which shared information pertaining to the location of Musk’s private jet.

The journalists were suspended for about 28 hours after allegedly sharing Musk’s location, a violation of a new policy the Twitter CEO implemented Wednesday after he claimed a stalker followed and jumped on top of a car carrying his infant son.

I was always respectful with my replies to the FBI and required that they provided a lawful subpoena signed by a judge before they got any information from 8chan (excepting rare, imminent, exigent circumstances).

 

To no surprise of anyone, Twitter seems to have gleefully locked hands with the FBI and gave them a lot of access over the years to ban and control the userbase on the Twitter platform.

 

This is a grave issue and an obvious erosion of our First Amendment Rights as Americans.

 

While the lying press continues to cry about the temporary ban of a few "journalists", the real issue of the government trampling all over our Constitution remains underreported and goes unanswered.

The FBI on Friday released a statement following the damning Twitter Files release, via FOX News.

On Friday night Attorney Jonathan Turley weighed in on the smug response from the FBI to this explosive document release.

My wife and I have become avid fans of American football. The Canadian game left us cold. Robert Crimo Jr. β€” the father of the alleged Highland Park Parade gunman β€” was hit with seven counts of reckless conduct in connection to helping his son obtain the gun prosecutors say was used in the July rampage that left seven dead.

Crimo helped his son, Robert β€œBobby” Crimo III, secure weapons despite the 21-year-old’s history of mental illness and threats of violence, prosecutors allege.

β€œParents and guardians are in the best position to decide whether their teenagers should have a weapon. They are the first line of defense. In this case, the system failed,” Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart announced Friday, the day after the charges were filed.

β€œWhen Robert Crimo Jr sponsored his son, he knew what he knew and he signed the form anyway,” Rinehart said.

Each of the seven counts lodged against Crimo, who turned himself into Highland Park authorities Friday afternoon, represent each victim killed in July 4 parade shooting.

Because he was only 19 when he began collecting firearms, Bobby needed a guardian to sponsor his Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, which his father signed off for in December 2019, Rinehart said.

Crimo’s attorney said in July that Crimo wasn’t aware of his son’s history before signing off on the card. But Crimo’s brother, Paul, told CNN over the summer that Crimo likely knew about his son’s mental struggles, but β€œsaw no trouble when he sponsored the card.

With his new firearms license, Bobby legally purchased at least five guns, including the Smith & Wesson M&P 15 he’s accused of using to fire more than 80 rounds during the mass shooting.

Just a few months before Crimo sponsored his son’s FOID card, Bobby tried to commit suicide and threatened to β€œkill everyone” in his home in two separate police-involved incidents, authorities have said.

During the second incident, police recovered 16 knives, a dagger and a sword from Bobby.

β€œParents know what is going on with their teenagers. And so he knows what’s going on and it was reckless for him to participate in the FOID process in that way, in this case,” Rinehart said Friday.

The suspected Highland Park mass shooter once tried to commit suicide, then threatened to β€œkill everyone’’ in his home while hoarding a huge stash of knives months later β€” yet was still able to legally buy rifles and pistols afterward, officials acknowledged Tuesday.

Authorities revealed that Robert E. β€œBobby” Crimo III, 21, had legally purchased at least five firearms β€” including the AR-15-style rifle he allegedly used in Monday’s massacre β€” after his two troubling interactions with law enforcement in 2019.

Officials said cops were called to Crimo’s home in April 2019 after receiving a report that he had attempted suicide a week earlier.

Officers spoke to Crimo and his parents, but the matter was handled by mental-health professionals at time, said Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli at a news conference.

β€œThere was no law-enforcement action to be taken. It was a mental-health issue handled by those professionals,” Covelli said.

A few months later, in September 2019, a concerned family member then reported to cops that Crimo had made deadly threats against his relatives, Covelli said.

β€œA family member reported that Crimo said he was going to kill everyone and Crimo had a collection of knives,” Covelli said. β€œThe police responded to his residence. The police removed 16 knives, a dagger and a sword from Crimo’s home.”

There was no probable cause to arrest Crimo at the time because none of his relatives signed complaints regarding the incident, according to Covelli.

Crimo’s two prior brushes with law enforcement were revealed a day after he allegedly shot dead seven people and injured more than 40 others at the Fourth of July parade in the wealthy Chicago suburb.

Covelli said the suspect’s confiscated stash of the firearms were purchased by him in 2020 and 2021 β€” after the 2019 incident in which his knives were seized.

Cops had immediately notified Illinois State Police in the wake of the knife incident, but authorities said Crimo didn’t have any guns at the time, thus no firearm-owner’s identification card that could have been revoked or reviewed.

But when Crimo applied for a firearm-owner’s identification card three months after the weapons were taken away, his father sponsored his application because he was under 21, the state police said in a statement, according to the Chicago Tribune.

β€œThe subject was under 21 and the application was sponsored by the subject’s father. Therefore, at the time of FOID application review in January of 2020, there was insufficient basis to establish a clear and present danger and deny the FOID application,” the statement said.

An attorney for Crimo’s parents, Steven Greenberg, said dad Bob Crimo Jr. did not know about the threats or seized knives because the alleged shooter was living with his mother at the time.

Greenberg said Crimo’s parents did not monitor his online activities or know about the disturbing images and videos he posted online.

β€œThere weren’t really any warning signs that the family saw. They don’t know of any reason why he would have done this,” he told the Chicago Tribune. β€œThese are very loving, caring and responsible parents, and if they had had concerns they would have expressed them.”

β€œImagine waking up in the morning knowing that there’s a real good chance that your son that you’ve raised, that you loved, that you nurtured through life, may spend the rest of his life in prison,” Greenberg also told the newspaper. β€œImagine you wake up and you have a realization that this person that has taken so much of your life to raise them has done something like this. NBC reportedly suspends Ben Collins for mocking Elon Musk on Twitter

NBC News has indefinitely barred tech reporter Ben Collins from covering Elon Musk and Twitter for repeatedly mocking the mogul on the social media app, it was reported on Friday.

Collins was told earlier this month by higher-ups at 30 Rock that his tweets blasting Musk were not editorially appropriate, according to the news site Semafor.

Collins has been yanked off the air from NBC and MSNBC but remains on staff. He has been actively tweeting and retweeting the latest developments related to Musk’s controversial decision to ban the accounts of several left-leaning journalists who were critical of his management of the social media app.

When reached by The Post, an NBC News spokesperson said: β€œWe don’t comment on personnel matters.”

A source close to the situation told The Post that Collins, who has more than 380,000 Twitter followers, was repeatedly warned by management at NBC News over opinionated tweets about Musk.

The source said Collins was reminded of the company’s journalistic guidelines that bar reporters from expressing their personal views on topics they are assigned to cover.

While Collins is sidelined, he will not be permitted to report on Twitter or Musk across NBC platforms including the over-the-air network, cable news outlet MSNBC, and NBC News’ online site and social media handles, the source told The Post.

There is no timeline for the suspension to end, the insider explained.

Collins’ benching comes as Musk suspended a half-dozen journalists for violating Twitter safety rules by linking to a handle that tracked the mogul’s private jet flights.

Jack Sweeney, the Florida-based college sophomore who operated the Twitter handle, slammed Musk for suspending him as well as his flight-tracking accounts that monitored the private jets of Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and others.

Musk threatened to sue Sweeney after implying that his @Elonjet handle helped a stalker locate his personal vehicle and tail it on a Los Angeles highway.

The mogul posted a video to his Twitter account showing the alleged stalker behind the wheel of a white Hyundai. Musk claimed that the man jumped on the hood of his car, which was carrying his young son at the time.

β€œGlitter has kept his nose clean in prison and toed the line and now his sentence is almost over,” sources told the paper.

β€œThe nature of his determinate sentence means the case won’t go to the Parole Board,” the sources added, which means β€œas soon as his sentence is over, he is free to walk out of the prison gates.”

The parole board confirmed that Glitter would have to wear a tag upon his release.

Glitter was convicted with having sex with a minor in Vietnam in 2006 and spent three years in jail there. He was deported to the UK where he registered as a sex offender.

In 2015 Gliter was found guilty of attempting to rape an eight year old, having sex with a girl under 13, and four counts molesting another minor girl. The offenses occurred between 1975 and 1980.

β€œIt is difficult to overstate the depravity of this dreadful behavior,” Judge Alistair McCreath said at his sentencing, adding that he wished he could put Glitter behind bars for longer, but was constrained by sentencing restrictions for crimes committed in the 1970s.

One of Glitter’s Vietnamese victims, Diem, whom he abused when she was just 10 years old in 2006, told The Sun she believes the singer will always remain a threat.

β€œHe will always be a terrible danger to young girls. It’s terrifying to think he might soon be free, even though he is on the other side of the world from me,” she said.

The singer’s 1972 hit β€œRock and Roll Part 2” was featured in the 2019 movie β€œThe Joker.”
