Over 3,000 bodies of civilians recovered in Mariupol – investigators

Russian officials blamed the deaths on Ukrainian troops who are said to have forced residents to remain in the city

The criminal actions of Ukrainian troops during the battle for Mariupol resulted in thousands of civilian deaths, Russian investigators have claimed. Local authorities have reportedly recovered over 3,000 bodies of people who were allegedly forced by Kiev's troops to remain in the city while the conflict raged.

The figure was revealed in a statement by Russia’s Investigative Committee on Friday, after committee chief Aleksandr Bastrykin held a meeting in Mariupol with officials investigating alleged Ukrainian crimes.

The port city, located in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), saw intense fighting between February and May, as Ukrainian troops were pushed back and encircled by Russian and DPR forces. Russia created humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to leave the city, but the Ukrainian side would not allow them to use the escape routes, Russian officials claimed.

“With no opportunity to leave the city, civilians moved around in search of food and became living targets for theUkrainian punishers, who murdered them using various kinds of weapons,” the statement said.

A college student has been arrested for the murders of four University of Idaho students almost six weeks ago.

Four police sources have confirmed to NBC that a 25-year-old man has been arrested in Pennsylvania in connection with the deaths on November 13.

The man was taken into custody by local police in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the FBI, according to Fox News.

Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20, were stabbed to death - with Xana's freshman boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, 20, also killed in the massacre.

It is understood that the suspect is a college student but does not attend the University of Idaho, according to police sources.

He appeared in court this morning, with Moscow Police confirming that they will be holding a press conference at 4pm EST.

A spokeswoman for the department declined to comment on the arrest when contacted by DailyMail.com.

Authorities have been left baffled by the brutal killings and have repeatedly appealed for the public for help with the case.

Reports from both coroner and police confirm that each of the students had been stabbed multiple times in the torso – and were ambushed in their sleep.

Police have found no evidence of a sex crime, and the victims had wounds on their bodies which indicated that they tried to fight of the attacker.

Initially cops said they thought all four were assaulted as they slept, with Goncalves father saying she had the worst injuries from the incident - suffering 'gouging wounds' and 'rips'.

The Chief of police at Moscow Police Department himself admitted that investigators did not understand how the two surviving roommates - Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen – appeared to sleep through the attack.

'Multiple people talked with the 911 dispatcher before a Moscow Police officer arrived at the location,' authorities said in a previous statement.

When they arrived at the scene, they said, they found Kernodle and Chapin, who were in a relationship, on the bottom floor, with Mogen and Goncalves sharing a bed on the top floor.

Authorities believe they were all stabbed to death somewhere between 3am to 4am that morning, after enjoying a night out.

Co-founder of Russia's largest IT company says goodbye to staff

Yandex CEO Arkady Volozh left the company after being sanctioned

Arkady Volozh, the co-creator of Russian internet giant Yandex, has penned a farewell letter to staff on Friday as he steps down from his role as CEO of the company and leaves the board of directorsafter being placed on the EU’s sanctions list.

“As you know, I haven’t managed Yandex’s Russian business for some time, and this year I had to completely step down from all positions in the company,” Volozh wrote in an internal Yandex blog post seen by TASS.

“In the hustle and bustle of recent months, I never said goodbye to you. New Year’s is a good opportunity to fix this,” he said, adding that Yandex was the project of a lifetime. “And not only mine. All these 30 years we have been building it together, from scratch, in the face of global competition, striving to behave openly and honestly,” he wrote, thanking everyone involved for helping create “the best technology company” in Russia.

A Yandex representative told RIA Novosti that Volozh would not be involved with the company in any way, even indirectly, after his exit. In November, the company revealed that Alexey Kudrin, Russia’s former finance minister and presidential adviser, will join the company’s top management team.

Yandex is considered to be the largest IT company in Russia and primarily serves audiences in Russia and other former Soviet states. The company provides internet-related products and services, including a search engine, maps, taxis, food deliveries, mobile apps, e-commerce, media streaming and other information services.

In his farewell post, Volozh expressed support for the upcoming corporate restructuring of the company, stating that to him it seems “reasonable and necessary.”

According to Reuters,Yandex’s Dutch-registered holding company is considering divesting ownershipand control of most of the Yandex Group and splitting off the main revenue-generating parts of its business into a sepаrate group of Russian firms that will retain the Yandex brand.

The company’s international divisions, focused on self-driving technologies, cloud computing, data labeling and edtech, will supposedly change its name and continue development independently from Russia. Police in Idaho have combed through nearly 20,000 tips and questioned 300 people about the murders of four college students last month.

Authorities are today clearing the property, but previously state that they do not know how long it will take to clean up the property – adding it will be 'returned to the property manager when complete.'

The update comes just days after Fry told KREM his investigators are still waiting for crime lab results from evidence collected at the scene.

'We don't want to rush that, we want to ensure that they're taking their time to get all of that right,' the police chief said in an interview Tuesday.

'We don't get that in real life, so we're going to be patient.'

Earlier in the night, newly-released surveillance footage shows, Goncalves and Madison Mogen inside the Corner Club bar at 1.32am chatting with an unidentified man — wearing a baseball cap — minutes before they ran to pick up food.

The girls were seen with their backs turned to the surveillance camera inside the bar, which appeared to be filled with a mix of young and older adults.

The leaked surveillance photo was posted by former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer, who has dedicated her Twitter to the Idaho murder mystery.

She said she obtained the photo once it was made public, and posted it online to discourage leaking evidence in the unsolved mystery.

Authorities have previously said they were last spotted at a food truck at around 1.40am on November 13, before running to meet their ride home.

They returned to their off-campus house at 1.56am, at around the same time that Kernodle and Chapin returned from a fraternity house.

Their other housemates got back about 45 minutes earlier and were left unharmed in the attack.

Speaking to DailyMail.com in the aftermath, the man who drove them home said the community is now losing faith in the Moscow Police Department to solve the quadruple homicide.

'Most of us have very little faith in the MPD. We can't tell if we are watching qualified investigators who have a handle of the situation or if they are completely at a loss and grasping for straws.'

But Moscow police have denied that inexperienced officers – the lead investigator has only been a cop for two years – are hampering or have already botched the investigation.

Russia’s Long-Range Aviation has received a modernized Tu-22M3 strategic bomber, while two Tu-160M planes have been submitted for flight tests, the state-run United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) announced on Friday.

The Tu-22M3 was given a number of tweaks aimed at boosting its capabilities, the UAC said in a statement. After a test flight, the plane was delivered to the country’s long-range bomber fleet. The Tupolev-22M3 is a modern version of the iconic Soviet-era strategic bomber, which has been in service since the 1970s. This aircraft type has been repeatedly modernized, with the latest makeover, the M3M, unveiled back in 2018.

The corporation has also submitted two Tu-160M nuclear-capable bombers for flight tests. One of the aircraft is a modernized version of an existing plane, while the other has been built from scratch as part of Russia's efforts in recent years to re-start its strategic plane-manufacturing program.

“The Tu-160 is the most important part of Russia’s nuclear triad, so the modernization of the active-duty warplanes and the resumption of production of these strategic bombers is our priority,” Sergey Chemezov, the head of Rostec, UAC’s parent company, stated.

The UAC shared a video showing the aircraft being rolled out from a hangar at an undisclosed location.

The Tu-160 long-range bombers have remained in service since the late 1980s, having been introduced shortly before the collapse of the Soviet Union. The plane was created primarily to carry long-range nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, but it is capable of using conventional munitions as well.

Bahamas seizes billions of dollars in FTX customer funds

The assets will reportedly be held until a court allows their return to customers and creditors

The Bahamian Securities Commission (BSC) has said ittook control of FTX deposits valued at more than $3.5 billion, shortly after the crypto exchange filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November.

According to a media release published late on Thursday by the commission, all digital assets in FTX's Bahamas unit FTX Digital Markets were seized due to a risk of their “imminent dissipation.”

The report highlighted that shortly after FTX filed for bankruptcy, about $372 million worth of tokens were stolen from the exchange by an unknown actor thought to be an external hacker.FTX then saw nearly $700 million of token outflows within a 24-hour span, according to blockchain research firm Nansen.

The BSC said the digital assets are under its “exclusive control” until the country’s Supreme Court allows the regulator to return them back to the customers and creditors who own them, or to the liquidators.

Meanwhile, former-FTX chief executive Sam Bankman-Fried, who has been accused of orchestrating a years-long scheme to defraud equity investors of nearly $2 billion, was released last week on $250 million bail. He is reportedly at his parents’ house in California, awaiting trial.

Two of the fallen crypto tycoon’s close associates – former FTX chief technology officer Gary Wang and former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison – have pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange. They are currently cooperating with the Justice Department's investigation.

According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bankman-Fried diverted billions of dollars of customer funds to help grow his other entities. The SEC has also charged that as late as last month, he was continuing to mislead investors while trying to fill a multi-billion-dollar hole in FTX’s balance sheet. That conduct stopped only when FTX and Alameda filed for bankruptcy protection on November 11, the regulator has charged.

NATO leaders have known since 2001 that Russia would “take appropriate steps” against further expansion of the alliance, according to documents recently declassified by the UK and reported by The Times.

A year into Putin’s presidency, then-Defense Minister Igor Sergeyev told his NATO counterparts that the alliance’s continued expansion into the territory of the former Warsaw Pact would be a major political error, the newspaper stated on Friday. Relevant Rant: So now that the massive freeze is at least paused, I am awaiting delayed trash pick up in my liberal city. Civic recycling is now every other week so do I put out the recycling that was not picked up? Who knows, but its out there. On my morning walk I see all sorts of items that people are trying to somehow get rid of. These items aren't routinely picked up anymore so you can try to arrange something, or leave them out hoping someone else wants them or you can schedule the city to pick up and after one item this is a paying proposition.

Back in the day American made products were durable. The Maytag repairman truly had a boring job as far as I could tell. I still have some of the furniture my dad owned. Now cheap Chinese goods including the "fancy" IOT appliances last what, 2 or 3 years without major issues? Today we have a refrigerator that leaks, accumulating slabs of ice under the lower freezer tray, an internet enabled washer that could somehow 'remotely' diagnose its ailments but which sounds like a jet engine every time it is used and various and sundry defunct appliances that are now non-discardable by ordinary means.

Meanwhile our city has high sales tax and implemented a "use" tax plus various and sundry zone based sales taxes. When the "use" tax was implemented the city manager used city funds to send out cards explaining why if we didn't put in the use tax we "wouldn't be like other places". How many small retailers can compete with Amazon now that it takes an entire department to determine the rates for every jurisdiction in America. Good bye to on line sales if you aren't a big guy, I suspect.

According to Gorelick's op-ed letter in the Washington Post she states that: "At last week's hearing, Attorney General John Ashcroft, facing criticism, asserted that 'the single greatest structural cause for September 11 was the wall that segregated criminal investigators and intelligence agents' and that I built that wall through a March 1995 memo."[19] However, the report from the 9/11 Commission, co-authored by Gorelick, asserts that the 'wall' limiting the ability of federal agencies to cooperate had existed since the 1980s and is in fact not one singular wall but a series of restrictions created over the course of over twenty years.[20]

Conflict of interest

A 1995 Department of Justice memorandum states that the procedures her memorandum put in place for the investigation of the 1993 WTC bombing "go beyond what is legally required…[to] prevent any risk of creating an unwarranted appearance that FISA is being used to avoid procedural safeguards which would apply in a criminal investigation." The wall intentionally exceeded the requirements of FISA (the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978) for the purposes of criminal investigations, as well as the then-existing federal case law. These rules were, shortly after their creation, expanded to regulate such communications in future counter-terrorism investigations.[21]

Gorelick eventually recused herself from reviewing her own role in the regulation of information about terrorist activities.[citation needed] Attorney General Ashcroft was incensed before the 9/11 commission to learn that the commission had not investigated or been told of Gorelick's memo or her role regarding the "wall". This assertion was disputed by former senator Slade Gorton (R-WA), a member of the 9/11 Commission, who said, "nothing Jamie Gorelick wrote had the slightest impact on the Department of Defense or its willingness or ability to share intelligence information with other intelligence agencies." Gorton also asserted that "the wall" was a long-standing policy that had resulted from the Church committee in the 1970s, and that the policy only prohibits transfer of certain information from prosecutors to the intelligence services and never prohibited information flowing in the opposite direction.[20]

Testifying before the commission, Attorney General John Ashcroft said, "Although you understand the debilitating impact of the wall, I cannot imagine that the commission knew about this memorandum, so I have declassified it for you and the public to review," he said. Fights at Disney parks prompt company to issue ‘courtesy’ rules

The “Happiest Place on Earth” is reminding patrons to keep it that way, or else they could be kicked out.

A new rule requires visitors at Disneyland and Disney World to be courteous to one another after fights have taken place at the theme parks in recent months.

Disney World in Florida added the rule to its website’s “Know Before You Go” section this month. Disneyland in California put up an identical notice just before the Christmas holiday, according to the Orange County Register.

The rule’s language on Disney World’s site reads, “Be the magic you want to see in the world. You must always remember to treat others with respect, kindness and compassion. Those who can’t live up to this simple wish may be asked to leave Walt Disney World Resort.”

Visitors should show courtesy to Disney employees and others by “not using profanity or engaging in unsafe, illegal, disruptive or offensive behavior, jumping lines or saving places in lines for others,” according to Disney‘s website.

Scrums at both parks made headlines this year.

A fright broke out this month between two guests at Disney World’s EPCOT park, and two families brawled in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland in July, according to WDW News Today.

The outlet also reported that a man was arrested for child abuse at Disney‘s Hollywood Studios in Florida, plus a fight at Disneyland in May during the return of its show “Fantasmic”

A cruise ship has been stuck at sea off South Australia after a fungus outbreak growing on the ship's hull.

The Viking Orion has been refused entry at multiple ports, leaving the passengers on board stuck at sea for five days.

As reported by 10 News First in Australia, the ship's route was supposed to take it from Sydney to Auckland, then New Zealand's capital Wellington.

The Viking Orion then made its way to Hobart on Australia's island state of Tasmania, but was again refused entry.

Refugees in particular, are vulnerable and deceived by being promised work in the industrial or domestic industry and an overall better life; but instead are taken to brothels and forced to be sex workers. Once a tourist or refugee is deceived or physically forced into the hands of the sex traffickers, they are then transported to Romania, where pimps, madams and other perpetrators like club owners buy the victims with money. There is also international agents and brokers who arrange the travel and job placements for women and children from different countries.

Bahamas seizes billions of dollars in FTX customer funds

The assets will reportedly be held until a court allows their return to customers and creditors

The Bahamian Securities Commission (BSC) has said it took control of FTX deposits valued at more than $3.5 billion, shortly after the crypto exchange filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November.

According to a media release published late on Thursday by the commission, all digital assets in FTX's Bahamas unit FTX Digital Markets were seized due to a risk of their “imminent dissipation.”

The report highlighted that shortly after FTX filed for bankruptcy, about $372 million worth of tokens were stolen from the exchange by an unknown actor thought to be an external hacker. FTX then saw nearly $700 million of token outflows within a 24-hour span, according to blockchain research firm Nansen.

The BSC said the digital assets are under its “exclusive control” until the country’s Supreme Court allows the regulator to return them back to the customers and creditors who own them, or to the liquidators.

Meanwhile, former-FTX chief executive Sam Bankman-Fried, who has been accused of orchestrating a years-long scheme to defraud equity investors of nearly $2 billion, was released last week on $250 million bail. He is reportedly at his parents’ house in California, awaiting trial.

Two of the fallen crypto tycoon’s close associates – former FTX chief technology officer Gary Wang and former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison – have pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange. They are currently cooperating with the Justice Department's investigation.

According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bankman-Fried diverted billions of dollars of customer funds to help grow his other entities. The SEC has also charged that as late as last month, he was continuing to mislead investors while trying to fill a multi-billion-dollar hole in FTX’s balance sheet. That conduct stopped only when FTX and Alameda filed for bankruptcy protection on November 11, the regulator has charged.

Arizona Border Agents Seize 1.2 Million Fentanyl Pills, 4 Pounds of Fentanyl Powder

Border Patrol agents at the Port of Nogales in Arizona seized over 1.2 million fentanyl pills and 4 pounds of fentanyl powder on Dec. 28, officials said.

Port Director Michael W. Humphries confirmed the seizure on Twitter, stating that border patrol agents “stopped two loads on Wednesday.”

The first shipment contained approximately 541,000 fentanyl tablets, 4 pounds of fentanyl powder, and over 37 pounds of methamphetamine concealed in the doors and rear panels of the cars, according to Humphries.

Seven hours later, approximately 689,200 fentanyl tablets were found hidden in a vehicle, according to the port director.

Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. As little as 2 milligrams is potentially enough to be lethal.

Seizures of the drug at the border with Mexico have soared this year amid a growing crisis. The majority of fentanyl is mass-produced in Mexico using chemicals from China before being pressed into pills or mixed with other counterfeit pills made to look like Xanax, Adderall, or oxycodone.

The counterfeit drugs are then sold to unaware buyers.

Earlier this year, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) warned of a surge in mass overdose events involving fentanyl across the United States, stating that the drug is killing Americans at an “unprecedented” rate.

Wednesday’s seizure came just a week after Humphries said border agents at the Port of Nogales had seized approximately 230,600 fentanyl pills hidden inside the spare tire wheel well of a vehicle.

The next day, agents also seized approximately 832,000 fentanyl pills hidden throughout another vehicle attempting to enter the United States, according to Humphries.

Bolsonaro Rules Out Military Intervention in Brazil, “I Have No Support from Other Institutions to Act Against Lula!”

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Friday (30) acknowledged defeat to the Brazilian Socialist Lula da Silva. He said he had no support for a military reaction to October’s election result, under suspicion of fraud.

BlackRock, State Street Admit Signing Net-Zero Pledges They Don’t Act On

Texas state senators struggled for more than six hours last week to get straight answers from Wall Street giants BlackRock and State Street, two of the world’s largest asset managers, regarding what they are doing to compel companies whose shares they own to get in line with the ESG movement.

Having joined global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) clubs like Climate Action 100 and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative (NZAM), and signed pledges to leverage their voting power as the largest shareholders in 90 percent of the S&P 500 companies to “reach net zero emissions by 2050 or sooner across all assets under management,” the asset managers testified that, in reality, they are doing no such thing.

When asked by Senate Chairman Bryan Hughes to clarify BlackRock’s pledge to Climate Action 100 “to secure commitments from companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions consistent with the Paris Agreement,” BlackRock’s Head of External Affairs Dalia Blass responded that BlackRock merely talks to companies whose shares they own to learn about their “material risks and opportunities.”

“We participate in Climate Action 100 to engage in dialogue with other participants, market participants, governments so that we understand issues that are relevant to our clients,” said Blass, who recently joined BlackRock from the Biden Administration where she worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The motto of Climate Action 100 is “Global investors driving business transition.”

CDC Instructs School Districts to Promote ‘LGBT Inclusivity’

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is instructing school administrators to adopt a self-assessment that will measure how “inclusive” their district is for the LGBT community.

“School administrators: Our LGBTQ inclusivity self-assessment tool can help you quickly gauge inclusivity at your school. See your score today and learn ways to increase inclusivity,” the CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) in a tweet this past Tuesday, December 27. The tweet then linked to a handbook titled, “LGBTQ Inclusivity in Schools: A Self-Assessment Tool.”

The handbook defines inclusiveness as “the presence of clear policies or practices that address the needs of LGBTQ students who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized due to factors such as sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.”

Under the guidelines, teachers, school staff and administrators are instructed to measure their commitment to inclusivity through a number of assessments. They are then instructed to determine whether they fall into one of three categories: “Mostly A’s,” who are classified as exceptionally inclusive, “Mostly B’s,” who are seen as on the right path to maximum inclusivity, and “mostly C’s,” which describes educators and staff who are not adequately inclusive.

In one example, test takers who answer that gender and sexual orientation is always unique and can be “experienced on a continuum” receive an “A” rating under the handbook’s criteria. Those who do not agree with that statement are given a “C” rating.

For administrators, those who assure that school events such as homecoming and pep rallies include both gender-conforming and non-gender-conforming couples are given an A rating, as are those who provide bathrooms and locker rooms where students are free to pick based on the gender identity of their choosing.

As for teachers, those who display LGBT-themed decorations such as pride flags in their classrooms, receive “A” ratings. Such ratings are also doled out to teachers who “present information on all types of sex, not centering on penis/vagina penetrative sex” and describe the human anatomy and physiology as separate from gender using terms like “body with a penis,” The Epoch Times reported.
