The Heat — who have played in the building since Jan. 2, 2000 — were to receive $2 million annually as part of that deal, which went into effect in June 2021. The county and the Heat say they will work together to find a new naming partner. Before the FTX deal, the building had been referred to as AmericanAirlines Arena since its opening in 1999. The airline giant, which has a hub in Miami, said in 2019 that it would not renew its deal past the expiration date of Jan. 1, 2020. The airline’s name remained on the building until 2021. On January 3, a cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors died after getting tased by police during an arrest for allegedly committing a felony hit & run and attempted auto theft. A toxicology test found cocaine and cannabis in his system.

In a Critical Incident Community Briefing released to Youtube on Wednesday, LAPD Commanding Officer of Media Relations Captain Kelly Muniz said that an officer was flagged down for a traffic collision near Venice Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard in Pacific Area at 3:38 pm on Jan. 3.

Officers observed 31-year-old Keenan Anderson running in the middle of the street and behaving erratically. People involved in the collision told responding officers that Anderson was responsible for the accident.

"That guy right there, he caused that accident. He was trying to steal my car," one man is heard saying in footage taken by a witness. "Yeah, the police are doing the right, uh, job right now. Don’t think that the police are abusing him. He was trying to go away.

"I think that guy’s in a very paranoid state," another man added.

"I’m an Uber driver and he was trying to steal my car while he hit the other cars right there," the first man continued.

Bodycam footage from the incident showed Anderson initially obeying the officer's orders, with Anderson saying "somebody's trying to kill me," and "I didn't mean to." He also said that someone was going to try to "put stuff" in his car.

After several minutes, Anderson ran into the street, away from the officer. When the officer chased Anderson down and attempted to arrest him, Anderson allegedly resisted.

During the struggle that lasted for several minutes, officers struggled to handcuff Anderson. After warning that Anderson would be tased if he didn't comply, the officer tased Anderson multiple times. Bodycam footage showed Anderson yelling, "They're trying to kill me," and "They're trying to George Floyd me."

FBI agents raided a Manhattan building in the fall of 2022 that was allegedly being used as a secret Chinese police station and was staffed with 'illegal cops' who solved crimes.

The raid occurred at the headquarters of the American Changle Association, a non-profit that helps Chinese nationals who live in New York. The group's former chairman was Lu Jianshun, who in 2021 donated $4,000 to Eric Adams' mayoral campaign, reports The New York Times.

The police station was located on the third floor of the organization's building. The police unit is linked to a unit code named 110 Overseas, based in China's Fujian province.

The US Attorney's Office, who participated in the raid with the FBI, told DailyMail.com, 'No comment,' when asked to authenticate the Times story.

In October, DailyMail.com visited the office which is on top a ramen shop and next to an acupuncturist where a receptionist was surprised to hear it was a secret police station. It was closed and locals said it seldom opened

The public was alerted to the existence of the secret Chinese police stations thanks to reporting from the Europe-based human rights organization Safeguard Defenders which published a research study in September detailing more than 100 secret Chinese law enforcement installations worldwide.

The Fall 2022 raid is the first known raid by law enforcement on a secret police station in the US. According to the Safeguard Defenders, there are two secret Chinese police stations in New York, one in Los Angeles and one in an undisclosed location.

The Times report notes that it is not clear if Lu Jianshun, who also goes by Jimmy Lu, is a target for the Feds.

The article did not mention any arrests in the wake of the raid but said that materials were seized from the offices.

In October 2022, Mayor Eric Adams appeared at a gala held by the American Changle Association, reports the New York Post. Just a few months earlier, the group's tax-exempt status was pulled by the IRS.

The Times article adds that reports in China have described the operations as 'overseas police service centers' which aid in solving crimes in their designated countries without collaborating with local officials.

In a statement on the Times story, the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC said: 'They are not police personnel from China. There is no need to make people nervous about this.'

In response to previous reports about secret police stations, Chinese embassies and consulates have downplayed their existence and said that the offices merely help citizens to renew documents such as driver's licenses.

Around the same time as the raid, a secret Chinese police station in Ireland was ordered to shut by government officials while authorities in the Netherlands began to probe similar operations.

In November, Beijing pushed back on claims it was operating 'police stations' on U.S. soil, calling the sites volunteer-run, after the FBI director said the same month he was 'very concerned' about unauthorized stations that have been linked to Beijing's influence operations.

FBI Director Christopher Wray told a Senate hearing in 2022 that it was 'outrageous' that the Chinese government would attempt to set up a police presence in the United States, saying it 'violates sovereignty and circumvents standard judicial and law enforcement cooperation processes.'

At the time, China's Embassy in Washington acknowledged the existence of volunteer-run sites in the United States, but said they were not 'police stations' or 'police service centers.'

Republicans in the U.S. Congress, including Representative Jim Banks, have requested answers from the Biden administration about the operations of the sites.

Rights activists say the sites are an extension of Beijing's efforts to pressure some Chinese nationals or their relatives abroad to return to China to face criminal charges, and have tied them to activities of China's United Front Work Department, a Chinese Communist Party body charged with spreading its influence and propaganda overseas.

The rules package House Republicans approved late Monday includes a provision allowing lawmakers to reduce or eliminate federal agency programs and to slash the salaries of individual federal employees.

Called the Holman Rule, the measure was proposed in 1876 but was sparingly used until it was reinstated by Republicans in 2017 and then dropped by Democrats two years later. In theory, it could apply to any federal worker or agency — but for now the move is seen as mostly symbolic, as the Democratic Senate could block Republicans from using the provision.

Even if an attempt to use the rule is ultimately blocked, though, “It’s the potential use that makes it so concerning,” said Max Stier, president and CEO of the nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service. “If you’re a federal employee, this now becomes a risk that you have to think ‘I may get myself get in hot water or have my salary dropped to zero or my job could get axed’” when making a professional decision.

“Symbols can cause harm. We need a workforce that is committed to the public good and feels safe to make that choice. That’s what’s at risk here,” he said.

Republicans have embraced the Holman Rule as part of the party’s aggressive stance toward the federal government, including President Donald Trump’s attempts to create new job classifications that would make it easier to fire government workers and his decision to move federal agencies like the Bureau of Land Management out of D.C.

The GOP on Monday touted the revived measure as a critical check on the Biden administration.

During the House floor debate, Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.), an ally of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), blasted federal officials as “unelected bureaucrats, the true, real swamp creatures here in D.C.,” saying they had “run roughshod over the American people without consequence.”

She added, “Today marks our first move, and certainly not our last, to hold them accountable.”

Democrats and union leaders, though, denounced the rule’s revival as an opening for the GOP to attack federal agencies and the people working in them for political reasons. Democrats warned that Republicans could abuse the power to lessen federal workers’ salaries or fire them outright — particularly at a time when the government is investigating former president Donald Trump.

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) said the GOP approach would put at risk “any federal official that draws the wrath of the Republican majority.” A group of nine House and Senate members from the District, Maryland and Virginia denounced the rule as an attack on federal programs and individual employees.

“We are all too familiar with House Republican efforts to vilify and punish hardworking federal civil servants for doing their jobs. But while moderates and experienced leaders among their ranks tried to prevent the return of the Holman Rule in 2017, sadly it appears that no one in today’s House Republican conference seems willing to take that stand now,” said a joint statement.

The rule is named for a House member who proposed it nearly 150 years ago as an exception to the general practice of keeping policy decisions separate from spending decisions.

After reviving it in 2017, Republicans had little success in using the rule. Only two attempts to employ it made even partial progress, according to a Congressional Research Service report.

One attempt in 2017 would have transferred a division of the Congressional Budget Office with about 90 employees to another office. Republican sponsors argued that the change would have improved the agency’s assessment of the impact of legislation, but Democrats contended that it was intended to punish the CBO for negative assessments of GOP bills intended to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The other attempt, in 2018, would have reduced to $1 the pay of a federal employee in charge of an office that had been the subject of whistleblower complaints; opponents called the move an attempt to punish without due process one individual who was involved in a wide-ranging dispute.

In both cases, the amendments were defeated in bipartisan votes.

Republican backers on Monday, though, said that reinstating the rule would provide an important check on the federal government. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.) — a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus — said the Holman Rule would “restore the people’s House” in the face of administrative action.

Federal employee unions and Democrats said that reviving the rule invites more chances to try to target agencies or individuals for partisan reasons.

“I think it’s another intimidation tool for civil servants who are simply doing their job,” said Rep. Gerald E. Connolly (D-Va.) in an interview. “It is designed to provide a chill effect on the ability of civil servants to do their jobs and carry out enforcement regulations and compliance with the law.”

“The whole point of it is to use it recklessly. There’s no way to use it responsibly,” said the public policy director of the American Federation of Government Employees, Jacqueline Simon. “It goes around everything that protects the civil service from political corruption — not just federal employees but entire agencies.”

“It is precisely for theater and to create chaos and disrupt the operation of federal agencies, including law enforcement agencies,” she said.

Tony Reardon, the head of the National Treasury Employees Union, argued that reinstating the rule insults the integrity of federal workers.

“Taxpayers want a federal workforce that is based on merit and employees who carry out their agency missions with professionalism and integrity,” Reardon said in a statement. “For Congress to upend those standards and punish individuals because of the work that they are assigned is outrageous.”

QUITO, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Ecuador reported its first case of human transmission of bird flu in a 9-year-old girl, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday, marking a rare case of human infection a month after the country declared an animal health emergency.

Human illness from bird flu infections have ranged from no symptoms to mild illness to severe disease resulting in death, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which advised that spread between humans is very rare.

Bird flu wiped out tens of millions of birds last year across the United States, which reported a first human case last April. Many of the birds were slaughtered to stop the disease from spreading.

Ecuador's Health Ministry said humans and animals in the area where the child was infected in the central province of Bolivar were being closely monitored for transmission.

It did not report on the girl's condition.

"It is presumed that the infection occurred through direct contact with birds that carried the virus," the ministry added. "So far no other cases have been reported in humans."

Ecuador declared an animal health emergency in late November and an epidemiological alert in December after an outbreak had been detected in the provinces of Cotopaxi and Bolivar, where thousands of birds were slaughtered to contain the disease.

The government assured that the consumption of eggs and chicken meat does not represent a risk to human health. It recommended strengthening "biosecurity" measures and seeking medical help in case of symptoms related to influenza.

Yet he has never been identified nor has he been arrested, prompting many to assume he was part of the con from the beginning.

A tip came across the desk at The Liberty Daily Tuesday night that showed an image of John Nichols and the Scaffold Commander. They definitely appear to be very similar, but I questioned it all at first. Why would the Deep State, Nancy Pelosi, or whoever orchestrated all of this use a well-known journalist who writes for the leftwing publication, The Nation? Why not get an average Joe who nobody knew? Then, I watched a video of Nichols juicing up a crowd at a Bernie Sanders rally and I realized the guy is very talented. He has a gift for rallying people and getting them to do what he wants. That’s when I realized he might have been the PERFECT person to man the bullhorn and coordinate the “insurrection.”

I discussed all of this on the latest mini-episode of my show. I also played audio in which Nichols’ voice and the voice of the Scaffold Commander seem eerily similar. So, I ask the question: Are they the same person? I’ll leave that up to you all to decide. Here’s my show:

The image below shows the Scaffold Commander and John Nichols side-by-side. Unfortunately, the image of Nichols is a decade old; it was the closest I could get to the proper mirrored angle. Again, the placement of the crooked teeth on the lower right side of the mouth seems to match. The lines on the face also match, albeit from a face about 8 years younger. The glasses match. But the part that stood out the most to me were the eyes. Age them a decade and have him yelling like the Scaffold Commander and it seems to be another match.

Texas teacher Wendy Duan, found dead in own backyard, met alleged murderer on dating app, mom says

A Texas elementary school teacher who was found dead in her backyard reportedly met her alleged killer on a dating app just a week before she was shot to death, it was revealed on Friday.

Wendy Duan’s boyfriend Charvas Thompson was arrested Wednesday in Louisiana, over 260 miles from where he allegedly shot her multiple times in her Sugar Land backyard last week.

The two had only been dating for a week before Thompson took Duan’s life, the victim’s mother, who did want to be identified, told KHOU 11.

They had met on the “MeetMe” dating app, which made Duan’s mother uncomfortable.

The distraught mother said she had a bad feeling about Thompson and warned Duan about the danger of meeting a stranger online.

“She showed me the picture,” Duan’s mother said. “I don’t know his name. She just saying, ‘Do you like him?’ I said ‘no.'”

Despite her strong intuition, Duan’s mother never imagined her daughter would end up dead.

“It’s unbelievable,” she said.

“The guy is very evil. He took her life away. I hope this guy gets the full legal punishment.”

Duan was a third-grade language arts teacher with the Alief Independent School District and was named English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher of the Year in December 2021.

According to her mother, Duan was a dedicated teacher who put her students first.

“Every Thursday she asks me to go to dollar store to buy gifts for kids,” she said.

Thompson is in the process of being extradited back to Texas. An arrest warrant was issued Sunday charging him with murder and setting his bond at $500,000.
