Venezuela to Ship Oil to Cuba on Blacklisted Supertanker

March 13 (Reuters) โ€“ Venezuelaโ€™s state-run oil company PDVSA on Monday was loading a supertanker with crude and fuel for Cuba, maritime documents showed, an unusually large volume to help its political ally overcome an energy crisis with repeated blackouts.

 

Several big electrical outages this year have left many in Cuba concerned about power supplies this summer, when residents crank up air conditioning to stay cool in the Caribbean heat.

 

Cuban officials have blamed the intermittent power on difficulties processing heavy sour Cuban crude and fuel shortages on the island, which depends heavily on imports from Venezuela, for hobbling power generation.

 

A large fire last year destroyed a portion of the countryโ€™s largest oil terminal, Matanzas, and has created obstacles to discharge fuel imports.

 

The Panama-flagged supertanker Nolan this week is loading 400,000 barrels of fuel oil for power generation at Venezuelaโ€™s Jose terminal. It also will load 1.13 million barrels of Venezuelan heavy oil, bringing the total cargo to 1.53 million barrels, according to internal PDVSA shipping documents. The vessel is due to sail later this month.

 

Cuba has very limited capacity to receive large tankers, especially since the Matanzas fire. The Nolan is bound for Matanzas, one of the documents showed, where Cuban state companies have been discharging imports by transferring cargoes to smaller vessels through ship-to-ship operations.

 

Seeking to avoid its own fuel crisis, Venezuelaโ€™s oil supplies to Cuba last year fell about 6% to 53,600 barrels per day (bpd), independent data based on tanker movement showed.

 

Nolan, owned by Nigeria-based Thomarose Global Ventures Ltd, was blacklisted in November by the U.S. Treasury Department under accusations of being part of an international oil smuggling network that facilitated oil trades for Hezbollah and Iranโ€™s Quds Force.

 

PDVSA, Venezuelaโ€™s oil ministry and Cubaโ€™s Center for International Press did not immediately reply to requests for comment. Thomarose Global Ventures could not be reached for comment.

 

The tanker has not sent a signal from its transponder since mid-December while in Venezuela, according to Refinitiv Eikon vessel monitoring data.

Anons, need some tech help. I have had IPVanish for approx. 4+ years and has worked great. About 6mons ago, started having problems where apps would suddenly not work with the IPVanish. When I disconnected IPVanish, app worked great. Never had that problem before. Apps such as Amazon, TS, Netflix and some shopping sites. Can you recommend another VPN that is great and has a great track record. Thanks all.

Weird. I've recently had problems with ExpressVPN where US servers show up as Netherlands or Ukraine when I go to some websites. Back in the day, the fix for this sort of shit was easy. Just go to nsa.gov and enter your situation into the search bar and hit 'Return'. Bada Boom, problem gone. Now, there is no search window on nsa.gov. HTF am I going to fix this shit now?

In separate Thursday filings in Manhattan federal court, both the US Virgin Islands and an Epstein victim accused the bank of refusing to turn over Dimon documents from 2014 - August 2019, the month Epstein was found dead in his jail cell while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, Bloomberg reports.

 

Both suits accuse Dimon of knowingly keeping Epstein as a client after his sex abuse became publicly known.

 

Epstein was a JPMorgan client between 1998 and 2013, however the US Virgin Islands says the bank's allegedly unlawful conduct occurred beyond that date - the details of which were redacted in Thursday's filing.

 

Jane Doe 1, meanwhile, says JPMorgan has refused to turn over Dimon documents from prior to 2006 - with the bank arguing that complying with the request would present an undue burden.

The British government has announced a lavish one-off payment to state-funded broadcaster the BBC. The money, which is worth ยฃ20 million ($24.13 million), will be allocated to the broadcaster over the next two years, the UK Foreign Office said on Monday.

 

The package comes within the framework of the so-called Integrated Review, a program document envisioning โ€˜Global Britainโ€™ and originally adopted under former PM Boris Johnson. The money is set to be funneled to all 42 language services of the BBC World Service and will be used to โ€œsupport English-language broadcasting,โ€ as well as to โ€œcounter disinformation,โ€ the foreign office explained, implying the funds will be specifically used to counter Russia.

 

โ€œThe refreshed Integrated Review concludes that democracies like the UK must go further to out-cooperate and out-compete states that are driving instability. โ€œThis week there is also a move to strengthen our spiritual independence,โ€ Zelensky said in a weekly address to the nation on Sunday evening. โ€œWe will not allow the terrorist state any opportunity to manipulate the spirituality of our people, to destroy our holy sites โ€“ our Lavras โ€“ or to steal valuables from them.โ€

 

He also claimed the steps his government was undertaking were โ€œcompletely legalโ€ and had the full support of the Ukrainian public.

 

On Friday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture notified the monks they had until March 29 to vacate the monastery, claiming they had violated the 2013 agreement under which the state allowed them to administer the national historic preserve. Biden to Reveal Submarine Pact with Australia and Britain to Counter China

WASHINGTON, March 10 (Reuters) โ€“ U.S. President Joe Biden will meet leaders of Australia and Britain in San Diego on Monday to announce a way forward for Australia to receive nuclear-powered submarines in Canberraโ€™s biggest-ever defense project.

 

The three countries announced the so-called AUKUS plan in 2021 as part of efforts to counter China in the Indo-Pacific region.

 

However, questions remain over strict U.S. curbs on the extensive technology sharing needed for the project and about the length of time it will take to deliver the submarines.

 

Australia is expected to buy up to five U.S. Virginia class nuclear-poweredsubmarines in the 2030s as part of the landmark agreement to be revealed in detail by Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, four U.S. officials told Reuters this week.

 

The agreement would have multiple stages with at least one U.S. submarine visiting Australian ports in the coming years and end in the late 2030s with a new class of submarines built with British designs and American technology, one of the officials said.

 

Two of the officials said that after the annual port visits, the United States would forward deploy some submarines in Western Australia by around 2027.

 

In the early 2030s, Australia would buy three Virginia class submarines and have the option to buy two more.

 

China has condemned the effort by the Western allies, who are seeking to counter its military buildup, pressure on Taiwan and increasingly muscular deployments in the contested South China Sea.

SHARING SENSITIVE TECHNOLOGY

 

The officials did not elaborate on the planned new class of submarines, including where they would be built, but Australiaโ€™s ambassador to Washington said last week there would be a โ€œgenuine trilateral solutionโ€ and the plan offers the prospect of jobs in all three countries.

 

Under the initial AUKUS deal announced in 2021, the United States and Britain agreed to provide Australia with the technology and capability to deploy nuclear-powered submarines.

 

It will be the first time the United States has shared nuclear-propulsion technology since it did so with Britain in the 1950s. Currently no party to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty other than the five countries the NPT recognizes as weapons states โ€“ the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France โ€“ has nuclearsubmarines.

 

In a second stage of the AUKUS project, the three countries will share advanced technology such as artificial intelligence and hypersonic weapons. British and Australian officials said last week there was still work needed to break down bureaucratic barriers to such technology sharing.

 

Bill Greenwalt, a former senior Pentagon official for industrial policy, said that since it will be years before the Australia has new submarines, the partners urgently need to move forward with this second stage, which covers capabilities that could be deployed within the next few years and are needed quickly given the growing threat posed by China.

 

โ€œUndersea drones, swarming drones, ubiquitous surveillance, advanced AI and data analytics are all in this potential wheelhouse but ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) prevents the types of cooperation that is needed,โ€ said Greenwalt, referring to U.S. export rules.

 

A State Department spokesperson said the United States was working to streamline the defense trade process, adding: โ€œWe do not anticipate any challenges in implementing AUKUS due to U.S. export-control regulations.โ€

AUSTRALIAN WORKERS TO THE U.S

 

The U.S. Congress has been briefed in recent weeks on the AUKUS deal to garner support for the legal changes needed to smooth out technology transfer issues for the highly secret nuclear propulsion and sonar systems that will be aboard Australiaโ€™s new submarines, a congressional source said on condition of anonymity.

 

Over the next five years, Australian workers will come to U.S. submarine shipyards to observe and train, the source said, adding that this could help ease a shortfall of U.S. shipyard workers.

Justin Burke, a visiting fellow at Australiaโ€™s Lowy Institute think tank, said the aim was for a straightforward and cost-effective plan to supply submarines and starting with an existing design like the Virginia Class was โ€œa very plausible way forward.โ€

 

โ€œThere are always considerable challenges in designing submarines from scratch, especially if you are combining technology from different nations and potentially manufacturing across multiple locations. Acquiring several submarines up front would mitigate those risks considerably,โ€ he said.

Once again, the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev makes it clear that it is not willing to engage in humanitarian projects to contain the damage generated by the conflict. According to a recent report by local authorities of the reintegrated Zaporozhye oblast, the Ukrainian government maintains its stance of boycotting any possible dialogue for the creation of a safety area around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP).

 

As a result, there is a constant situation of insecurity, with the possibility of a nuclear disaster in the region at any time. In a recent interview with a top Russian media outlet, Vladimir Rogov, a senior official in Zaporozhyeโ€™s regional administration, warned about Ukraineโ€™s policy of thwarting humanitarian projects focused on creating a protected security zone around the local nuclear power plant. According to Rogov, the Ukrainians refuse to give any guarantees that they will actually stop the bombings against the ZNPP, which obviously prevents any agreement from being reached.

 

Rogov explains that two factors are essential in order to effectively guarantee the security of the ZNPP: 1- banning any type of bombing by Ukrainian armed forces both in Zaporozhye and in the neighboring town of Energodar; 2- recognize Russiaโ€™s right to protect the region. Indeed, as it is a liberated territory, already reintegrated into the Russian Federation through a legal referendum, its protection is up to the Russian armed forces.

 

The Ukrainians, however, use the supposed intention of โ€œprotectingโ€ the ZNPP as a political tool and bargaining power: they only accept to stop the bombings if there is a withdrawal on the part of Moscowโ€™s troops. As the popular will to join the Russian Federation is proved, obviously the Russian government cannot allow the Zaporozhye oblast to return to being dominated by the forces of the neo-Nazi regime. Therefore, there is an absolute failure to conclude negotiations.

With yesterdayโ€™s news that the United Nations has secured the purchase of an oil tanker to receive oil from the decaying FSO Safer in the Red Sea, the UN is re-launching a crowdfunding campaign to fill budget gaps to complete the safe removal of oil from the vessel.

 

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday announced an agreement with Belgian tanker company Euronav to purchase a Very Large Crude Carrier as part of the UN-led operation to transfer over a million barrels of oil from the floating storage and offloading vessel.

 

The replacement vessel is now in drydock for modifications and regular maintenance before setting sail to the FSO Safer, which is moored approximately nine kilometers off Yemenโ€™s Ras Isa peninsula. The operation is scheduled to kick off in early May.

 

โ€œThe purchase of this suitable vessel by UNDP marks the beginning of the operational phase of the UN-coordinated plan to safely remove the oil from the Safer and avoid the risk of an environmental and humanitarian disaster on a massive scale,โ€ said UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner.

 

Due to the conflict in Yemen, the FSO Safer has not been maintained since 2015 and its condition has deteriorated to the point that there is an imminent risk that it could explode or break apart.

 

The tanker holds 1.1 million barrels of oil, which is approximately four times the amount spilled by the Exxon Valdez and enough to create the fifth largest oil spill from a tanker in history if the entire amount is released. Such a spill could devastate fishing communities on Yemenโ€™s Red Sea coast and cause highly polluted air that would affect millions of people.

 

Additionally, shipping through the Bab al-Mandab strait to the Suez Canal could be disrupted, leading to billions of dollars in global trade losses every day, similar to when the Ever Given grounded in the Canal in 2021. The ports of Hodeidah and Saleef, which are essential for bringing food, fuel, and life-saving supplies into Yemen, could also be closed due to the spill, affecting 17 million people in need of food assistance. A spill could also lead to the closure of desalination plants, cutting off a water source for millions of people. Oil from the Safer could reach the African coast, causing severe environmental impact on coral reefs, life-supporting mangroves, and other marine life.

 

The UNDP, which is implementing the operation as part of the UN-led initiative, has contracted marine salvage company SMIT to safely remove the oil and prepare the Safer for towing to a scrapping yard.

 

โ€œWe must accept that this is a very challenging and complex operation. UNDP is working around the clock with experts from UN sister agencies including IMO, WFP and UNEP among others as well as international consultancies on maritime law, insurance and environmental impact to ensure that we are deploying the best possible expertise to successfully complete this operation,โ€ added Steiner.

 

Although the project has received significant international support, high demand for suitable vessels to undertake the operation and spiraling costs attributed to the war in Ukraine means more funds are still required to complete the emergency phase of the plan.

 

To help bridge the gap, the UN is re-launching a crowdfunding campaign to fill the $34 million budget gap so the operation can begin in the first half of this year as planned. As of March 7, 2023, the UN has raised $95 million, of which $75 million has been received, of the total $129 million cost of the emergency phase of the project.

 

โ€œUNDPโ€™s purchase of the vessel is indeed a major step, made possible by the generosity of donors, the private sector and global citizens. The parties to the conflict continue to endorse the plan. Now we are into the operational phase and hopeful the oil will be removed from the Safer within the next three to four months. But we still urgently need funding to implement the plan and prevent disaster,โ€ said Sanaโ€™a, David Gressly, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, who has led on UN system-wide efforts on the Safer since September 2021.

This line of thinking is very real in the world today but it is never discussed openly. You see oil flow is the key to gold flow. It is the movement of gold in the hidden background that has kept oil at these low prices. Not military might, not a strong US dollar, not political pressure, no it was real gold. In very large amounts. Oil is the only commodity in the world that was large enough forgold to hide in. Noone could make the South African / Asian connection when the question was asked, "how could LBMA do so many gold deals and not impact the price". That's because oil is being partially used to pay for gold! We are going to find out that the price of gold, in terms of real money ( oil ) has gone thru the roof over these last few years. People wondered how the physical gold market could be "cornered" when it's currency price wasn't rising and no shortages were showing up? The CBs were becoming the primary suppliers by replacing openly held gold with CB certificates. This action has helped keep gold flowing during a time that trading would have locked up.

 

(Gold has always been funny in that way. So many people worldwide think of it as money, it tends to dry up as the price rises.) Westerners should not be too upset with the CBs actions, they are buying you time!

 

So why has this played out this way? In the real world some people know that gold is real wealth no matter what currency price is put on it. Around the world it is traded in huge volumes that never show up on bank statements, govt. stats., or trading graph paper.

 

The Western governments needed to keep the price of gold down so it could flow where they needed it to flow. The key to free up gold was simple. The Western public will not hold an asset that going nowhere, at least in currency terms. ( if one can only see value in paper currency terms then one cannot see value at all ) The problem for the CBs was that the third world has kept the gold market "bought up" by working thru South Africa! To avoid a spiking oil price the CBs first freed up the publics gold thru the issuance of various types of "paper future gold". As that selling dried up they did the only thing they could, become primary suppliers! And here we are today. In the early 1990s oil went to $30++ for reasons we all know. What isn't known is that it's price didn't drop that much. You see the trading medium changed. Oil went from $30++ to $19 + X amount of gold! Today it costs $19 + XXX amount of gold! Yes, gold has gone up and oil has stayed the same in most eyes.

 

Now all govts. don't get gold for oil, just a few. That's all it takes. For now! When everyone that has exchanged gold for paper finds out it's real price, in oil terms they will try to get it back. The great scramble that "Big Trader" understood may be very, very close.

Why did LBMA go public?

 

Ever notice how many important middle eastern people keep a residence in London. It's not because of the climate. The most powerful banks in the world today are the ones that trade oil and gold. It is in the "city" that the deals are done by people who understand "value"! Westerners should be happy that they do because the free flow of oil and gold has allowed this economic expansion to continue this past few years.

 

Understand that oil is still traded for a certain number of US$ but after the deal is done a certain amount of gold is also purchased "with the future flow of oil as collateral". If the world price of gold gets to high then the oil price is falling. So long as gold stays cheap in currency terms oil will be in good supply.

 

Too hard to follow? If real physical gold trading dries up it's price will rise forcing down the value of oil. All this year physical gold volume kept drying up as paper short volume exploded. Some time ago gold not only was used as money but also circulated as currency. It had always been money and people had no use for a separate currency to represent "gold money" so they stamped the gold itself and used it as circulating currency. From the start, one thing most thinkers can't quite grasp is that "money does not have to circulate"! The first "world money", gold money that is, could stay locked up and still represent value and wealth. People had but to agree on who owned it in exchange for goods and services. You have all read the articles about how paper receipts for "gold money" were later circulated and became paper currency receipts, then paper currency, then just currency.

 

The western world today, as we know it does not use money ! They use "paper currency". To fully understand what that really means you must come to terms with this fact. " When you use paper currency you are placing a value using another persons concept of value" You are using a thought as a means of value! When an investment in stocks, bonds, bank accounts, CASH, businesses etc. is priced in US$ currency you are really holding the "intentions of providing value" locked away in the thoughts of another mind.

 

This type of human interaction works well for a time, as the last 100 years or so proves. But, it is highly unstable to say the least. It has it's own self distruct code written inside each mind. One day ( it has already started ) a type of nuclear chain reaction will occur in the currency markets as people start "unvalueing" the thoughts of others. Little by little all debts owed will be marked down .

 

Now that we understand that concept let's move on:

 

One of the great money troubles facing the western currency system today is that many third world people are starting to put a "mind value" on real money, gold. These people don't know the true value of gold money but they know it's worth a whole lot more than the world paper currency price now placed on it. And that brings us to the next problem; how can paper currency that represents "the thoughts of a nation blowing in the wind" be used to value real money of ancient world class proportions, gold? It cannot! Any price you can think of will do, as in no price will work!

 

How did we come to this unworkable mess?

 

The best way to rework the publics mind about gold money was by changing the way it was viewed.

 

"It's money of course but let's also call it a "commodity! Then we can place a "paper" value on it and denominate it in all forms of future contracts. It will lose it's true value as money in peoples minds and be priced in an unrealistic paper format." And here we are today!

 

The banks must sell all the gold they have to keep the system togeather. And once it is all sold and the financial markets implode the nations will use "whatever force is necessary" to pull the gold back in! That action in and of itself would show the true value of gold money!

 

What of the LBMA mess?

 

Gold is cornered. Plain and simple. No complicated theories, no options problems. The commodity value of gold was forced so low in paper currency terms that all of the new mined gold, going out some 10 years is spoken for. Between the third world buying physical gold and the jewelry industry ( same people buying ) there is none left for the oil states! They do value oil in terms of gold, but not IN the paper currency price of gold! How much is gold worth in terms of oil value? Just stop supplying gold to them in ultra cheep US$ terms and you will find out by watching the currency price of oil! In any event, LBMA has traded so much paper/oil/gold that any rise in the currency price of gold will implode them. The CBs must become the full primary suppliers of gold or the system as we know it is done.

 

One last note: No form of paper wealth will survive the financial crush once the CBs stop selling!
