The wife of a Democrat politician in the U.S. Virgin Islands is accused of helping Jeffrey Epstein facilitate his alleged sex trafficking scheme.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the revelation was made in a court filing from JPMorgan Chase. The bank agreed to pay approximately $290 million to settle a class action lawsuit from Epstein’s victims over the bank’s relationship with the now-deceased sex trafficker.

The bank released emails between Epstein and former First Lady Cecile de Jongh, wife of then-USVI Democrat Governor John de Jongh Jr., who was “an office manager for the convicted sex offender’s businesses in the U.S. territory.”

The U.S. Virgin Islands sued the bank last year claiming that it helped Epstein facilitate his crimes by allowing him to use their bank, which provided him access to the financial system.

The bank said in court documents that the U.S. Virgin Islands “protected Epstein, fostering the perfect conditions for Epstein’s criminal conduct to continue undetected. Rather than stop him, they helped him.”

The bank said that de Jongh ran Epstein’s business operations on the island while her husband was the governor and helped him deal with local politicians and law enforcement.

De Jongh allegedly helped enroll numerous Epstein victims in English classes, the bank said. Epstein paid for the courses. She also allegedly helped get their visas set up so they could be brought to the island.

She allegedly asked Epstein to make political donations to the congressional campaign of Democrat Stacey Plaskett, who was later elected to U.S. Congress as a delegate.

Former President Barack Obama has called for “digital fingerprints” to be mandatory online to help authorities censor so-called “misinformation.”

In a new interview, Obama suggested the development of new technology to track and identify people online to combat “disinformation.”

He argues that such a move would help to remove “misleading” news from the Internet and provide consumers with only “true” information.

Obama sat down with his former White House senior adviser David Axelrod for a conversation on the latter’s podcast, “The Axe Files,” on CNN Audio.

During the interview, Axelrod noted he’s seen “misinformation, disinformation, [and] deepfakes” targeting Obama.

“As I’ve told people, because I was the first digital president when I left office, I was probably the most recorded filmed photographed human in history, which is kind of a weird thing,” responded Obama.

“But just the odds are that I was.

“As a consequence, there’s a lot of raw material there.”

Obama added that the deepfakes — digitally manipulated images, audio, or video that appear almost legitimate — started with a version of him dancing, “saying dirty limericks,” or similar kinds of activity.

“That technology’s here now,” continued Obama.

He then warned about the issue getting worse moving forward.

“So, most immediately we’re going to have all the problems we had with misinformation before, [but] this next election cycle will be worse.”

Obama then suggested “digital fingerprints” to discern truth from misinformation.

“And the need for us, for the general public, I think to be more discriminating consumers of news and information, the need for us to overtime develop technologies to create watermarks or digital fingerprints so we know what is true and what is not true,” he said.

“There’s a whole bunch of work that’s going to have to be done there, but in the short term, it’s really going to be up to the American people to kind of say.”

Obama and Axelrod went on to say that today many consumers are only viewing information from sources they are predisposed to agree with and will likely believe what they see.

“Obviously, we saw that during the vaccination stuff,” added Obama, referring to Covid shots.

“So, I am concerned about it.

“And I think the best we’re going to be able to do is to constantly remind people that this is out there.”

The former president said he thinks most people are now aware that “not everything that pops up on your phone is true,” but cautioned misinformation can be used to discourage people from voting by characterizing the system as rigged and corrupt.

“That can oftentimes advantage the powerful,” said Obama.

“And I am worried about that kind of cynicism developing even further during the course of this next election.”

The interview came about six weeks after the Obama Foundation on World Press Freedom Day posted a recent video of the former president lecturing about “widespread disinformation” and the need for journalists to create “an information environment” to support democracy.

Last year, Obama announced that his foundation would be launching a new initiative to combat misinformation.

Days later, Obama angered conservatives with a speech at Stanford University warning of the dangers of “disinformation.”

During the speech, Obama said, “All we see is a constant feed of content where useful factual information and happy diversions, and cat videos flow alongside lies, conspiracy theories, junk science, quackery, white supremacist, racist tracts, misogynist screeds.”

Critics were quick to point out that Obama promoted the debunked narrative that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election.

yup, there was a part i was reading the other day

of Title 18 and the us government can actually deny the defendant their rights to have classified information and the judge can allow it even if it would prove the defendants innocence. There is also a part where the defendant must reveal any classified information it will reveal in the course of the trial and of course the government and the courts can squash that also. The part that I find interesting is that the court is going to have to rule on if this information was classified or not in the first place. You are dealing with the one person in the country who had that power at the time and to say the DOJ and courts have a right to silence that is well to be honest total bullshit and yet another reason to say the entire system is fucking worthless and broken.

 

I also assume there will be Interlocutory appeals by both sides in this. I also do not see how the courts can continue to exist knowing that they are deciding what a president can or can not do and especially after the doj willfully violated the constitution in going after well everyone.

The Minneapolis Police Department routinely discriminated against minorities, a two-year investigation found

 

The Minneapolis Police Department habitually violated residents’ constitutional rights, particularly minorities, according to the results of a two-year investigation by the US Justice Department published on Friday. The investigation began in 2020, sparked by the now-infamous death in police custody of black suspect George Floyd under the knee of white officer Derek Chauvin.

 

Suggesting Floyd’s death was far from an anomaly, the Justice Department’s 92-page report alleges a pattern of civil rights violations from habitual use of excessive and often deadly force to systematic discrimination against racial minorities.

 

Even Floyd’s last words were apparently the rule rather than the exception, the investigation found, with numerous documented incidents in which officers allegedly ignored claims by suspects in custody that they could not breathe.

 

The patterns and practices we observed made what happened to George Floyd possible,” Attorney General Merrick Garland told reporters on Friday.

 

The force routinely violated residents’ First and Fourth Amendment rights, including by retaliating against journalists attempting to document the aforementioned civil rights violations, the report claims. Residents are especially likely to suffer under department policies “based on race and disability,” with black and Native American individuals and those with mental health issues singled out for particularly brutal treatment.

 

Reinforcing the antagonistic relationship between law enforcement and residents, the force refused to discipline its own officers when they were found to be in violation of even its allegedly lax behavioral standards, the report found. Due to the organizational structure of the force, officers inclined to abuses of power of the sort amply documented in the report were able to escape accountability by self-selecting into enabling supervisory relationships.

 

According to the probe, the department’s pattern of abuses was established years before Floyd’s death – which was immortalized on cell-phone footage and seen by millions around the world, kicking off a summer of rioting and racial recriminations. Officers deployed “dangerous techniques and weapons against people who committed at most a petty offense and sometimes no offense at all,” the report states, with merely criticizing the police department sufficing to bring down excessive and sometimes deadly force.

 

Since Floyd’s death, Minneapolis has banned neck restraints, no-knock warrants, and other controversial tactics. The Justice Department’s report urges a total retraining regarding the use of force, both in terms of when and where it is seen as appropriate and how it is documented. Including racial data in all documentation of police activity is seen as critical to reducing the deleterious effects of systematic discrimination, as is adopting specific policies to deal with “people with behavioral health issues.”

Border Agents Intercept Smugglers Using Cloned FedEx Vans to Transport Illegal Immigrants in El Paso

 

In an audacious attempt to elude law enforcement, smugglers have resorted to using cloned FedEx vehicles to transport illegal immigrants through El Paso’s Upper Valley, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has reported.

 

Authorities at the Santa Teresa Station Anti-Smuggling Unit in El Paso received “credible information” regarding a smuggling scheme using fake FedEx trucks.

 

Agents and troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety stopped three vehicles on Friday night; two were cloned white FedEx vans. They found 26 migrants from Mexico and Guatemala, and four smugglers, two from the US and two from Mexico, FOX 5 reported.

 

“El Paso Sector Border Patrol Agents continue to successfully disrupt smuggling schemes and the illegal operations of Transnational Criminal Organizations through our law enforcement partnerships,” said El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Scott Good.

 

“I am grateful for these partnerships at the state, local and federal level and are vital to our National Security Mission. This alliance is successfully disrupting dangerous criminal organizations, their leadership, and their human smuggling schemes,” he added.

 

“This tactic has been used before by smugglers, the transnational criminal organizations come up with different ways to try defeat the Border Patrol’s intelligence,” Border Patrol Agent Sean Coffey told CBS4.

 

“We haven’t seen a FedEx vehicle in some time, we do see other types of vehicles like construction vehicles, other vehicles they put a sticker that looks like a company vehicle,” Coffey added.

 

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that the illegal immigrants were in good health and were processed accordingly. Meanwhile, the four smugglers were charged with the smuggling scheme.

Crawford explained: "It was as if I didn't exist and Facebook was operated by a bunch of ghosts or something."

 

And the silence continued.

 

Because Facebook’s legal team did not respond to the lawsuit, a judge ordered Meta to pay him $50,000.

 

That’s when he finally heard from the tech company.

 

He also explained he was not taking legal action for the money, but that he wanted to hold the company accountable for not giving him answers.

 

The fight is not yet finished, however, as Crawford claims Facebook is not cooperating with the judgment and has not paid out a dime.

 

"Every step of the way Facebook is choosing not to do the right thing," he told FOX Atlanta.

According to Hoose, the federal scrutiny began two years ago and has involved various agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and now, the Internal Revenue Service.

Van Hoose claims that he was simply told his business had been reported, although he remains in the dark about who reported it or why. He believes the whole episode was politically motivated.

“I can only assume that it’s because of the style of weapons that we have and the press that’s so against them,” said Van Hoose. “The current administration seems to be hell bent on getting those guns out of the hands of average Americans.”

The day’s operations were disrupted, leading to a significant loss of revenue.

“I had about 30 minutes to operate, making just a single $16 sale,” Hoose said.

Highwood Creek Outfitters is America’s largest online firearms and accessories mall, according to its website. The store is known for selling what Van Hoose calls “fun guns,” including AR-15’s and AK-47s.

The Great Falls Police Department confirmed it was informed about the investigation and provided security, according to KRTV.

Although the Montana Department of Justice claimed no involvement in the incident, an IRS spokesperson confirmed their presence at Highwood Creek Outfitters but refrained from providing further details.

The recent incident has attracted political attention, with Congressman Matt Rosendale expressing his concern over the IRS and ATF’s actions, interpreting them as another example of the Biden regime’s weaponization of federal agencies against hardworking Americans.

“I’m incredibly disturbed by initial reports that the IRS and ATF closed Highwood Creek Outfitters without any warning today,” said Rep Rosendale in a statement.

“This is yet another example of the Biden Administration weaponizing federal agencies to target and harass hardworking Americans. We cannot allow Biden to continue expanding these agencies to infringe on our liberties,” he added.

On Friday afternoon, the congressman announced he sent a letter to ATF Director Steven Dettelbach and IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel, asking for answers.

“The weaponization of our government must be STOPPED, which is why I sent a letter to ATF Director Dettelbach and IRS Commissioner Werfel demanding answers about this outrageous attack and have used every tool available to me to remove funding for the 87,000 additional IRS agents!” Rep. Rosendale said.

“Here’s what they took out. IRS – financial records, accounting, making sure what transactions were taking place. No, they took all of the 4473 forms. The 4473 forms are what everyone fills out when they go to purchase a firearm,” said Rosendale.

“And it’s just a big disclosure to make sure that you don’t have a criminal background or other reasons where you should not be purchasing a firearm. So the IRS took every single one of the 4473s that Tom Van Hoose had in his possession there at Highwood Creek Outfitters,” he added.

LBJ vs. the Nuclear Family

 

Fifty years ago, in 1966, a political revolution emerged in America that would have a massive impact on millions of families and marriages. The man behind it was President Lyndon Baines Johnson, who reached the White House amid a national tragedy but grabbed the reins of power quickly and purposefully, bent on transforming the country. Though he is lionized in popular culture these days, it is worth asking whether the celebratory tone accurately reflects the results of his revolution, at least in terms of his massive Great Society.

 

Earlier this year HBO transformed a hit Broadway play into a television special lauding Johnson’s 1964 campaign and early White House tenure. The riveting narrative begins with the 1963 assassination of President John Kennedy in Dallas, which catapulted Johnson into the White House and set him upon his momentous course. The program’s title, All the Way, comes from Johnson’s most memorable campaign slogan, “All the way with LBJ,” when he ran against Arizona’s Republican senator, Barry Goldwater.

 

Similarly, a play called The Great Society, which premiered in 2014 at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, is heading to Broadway in 2017. Johnson is the star of that narrative as well.

 

The name of Johnson’s massive domestic agenda was taken from a now-forgotten British professor named Graham Wallas, who in 1914 outlined a series of domestic reforms he called the Great Society. Wallas’s slogan entered America’s lexicon as one of the country’s most famous political phrases and became inseparable from Johnson’s legacy.

 

In 1964 Johnson went to the University of Michigan to deliver one of the most consequential speeches of his presidency, unveiling the Great Society programs that would become the largest, most intrusive expansion of federal power ever.

 

“The challenge of the next half-century is whether we have the wisdom to use wealth to enrich and elevate our national life, and to advance the quality of our American civilization,” declared Johnson. “For in your time we have the opportunity to move not only toward the rich society and the powerful society, but upward to the Great Society.” The key word here was “upward,” for Johnson viewed his program as synonymous with progress itself.

 

The expansionist spirit of the Great Society made Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal of the 1930s and the progressive-era initiatives of Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson of the early 20th century appear relatively modest by comparison. Indeed, Johnson’s Ann Arbor revolution represented the most far-reaching legislative transformation in our history. How did it happen? And, looking back over the past half century, what were the results of Johnson’s vast promises? Is this a legacy that justifies the celebratory regard seen in the popular culture?

 

Johnson and his staff lost no time after Kennedy’s murder in designing their vast governmental expansion, to be financed by America’s post-World War II abundance of wealth and prosperity. “I am a Roosevelt New Dealer,” declared Johnson the day after the assassination. “Kennedy was a little too conservative to suit my taste.”

Ray Lewis III, son of Ravens legend, dies at 28

 

Ray Lewis III, the son of NFL legend Ray Lewis, has died. He was 28 years old.

 

Lewis' brother, Rahsaan, who plays wide receiver at Kentucky, posted the news of his death on Instagram Thursday. Baltimore's WBAL-TV also confirmed the news.

 

"Really can't believe I'm even typing this but RIP big brother," Rahsaan wrote.

 

Lewis III played running back in high school and committed in 2012 to play cornerback for Miami — the same program where his father developed into a first-round draft pick before embarking on a Hall of Fame career with the Baltimore Ravens. Lewis never played for the Hurricanes and transferred to Coastal Carolina in 2015 after two years at Miami, one of them as a redshirt.

 

Lewis played 12 games at Coastal Carolina as a kick return specialist and defensive back. He was accused of criminal sexual conduct at Coastal Carolina and transferred again to Virginia Union. Charges against him were later dismissed. He went on to play the 2017 season with Virginia Union. His coach at Virginia Union Mark James spoke about Lewis with the Baltimore Sun.

 

"Ray was a tremendous young man who played with the spirit of a lion," James said. "He was a great asset to the Virginia Union family. He will always be a Panther. May God bless his family.”

On March 27, 2023, the Committee previously wrote to you and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen about an IRS agent visiting unannounced and unprompted the home of journalist Matt Taibbi. Incredibly, at the time of the visit, Mr. Taibbi was testifying before the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government about how the federal government pressured, coerced, and even directed technology companies to take certain actions related to digital content. Don't forget backyard chicken farmers. Hens lay fewer and fewer eggs per year as they get older, so the cost of feed to egg increases. Those are slaughtered by some of the backyard chicken farmers also.

 

Raised in the country, had to help raise/butcher our own free range chickens. Butchering not my favorite job, but it doesn't take long once you get the knack. Plucking feathers is what takes the time. Time is money. Commercial farms have those automated pluckers.

 

My nearly 100 y.o. mom, raised on a farm, told me that chicken was expensive when she was a kid, rarely eaten. Not much meat, and time consuming to pluck. Until the chicken breeding contests started and they started breeding the larger faster growing genetic traits into chickens.

 

My neighbor raises chickens and sells off her excess eggs. But she refuses to butcher. She actually goes to the grocery store to buy chicken. She sells off the older hens for $25 (cost of feed). Amazingly she sells them. And these are not the giant chickens with the big thick breasts (Cornish x Rock) people are used to seeing the grocery stores now. The breed she raises has hardly any meat.

 

In some towns/cities, you are allowed to raise hens in your back yard. No roosters, though (too noisy), which means no chicks hatching. Some towns have qty limits. That's problem if you're mail ordering chicks, min. delivery. But if you find a backyard chicken person selling eggs that has a rooster on the property…. you can buy fertilized eggs and raise them in an incubator.

 

You might even talk someone living in a rural area into letting you purchase 25 of the big chickens/roosters and asked them to raise them in a separate area for a small fee ($1 a day?). Purchase their feed. Takes about 2 - 2.5 months to raise the giant ones to slaughter size About 225 - 250 pounds of dressed meat. Obviously, you need a deep freezer, or learn how to home can chicken, which doesn't require refrigeration. If you don't like the really big breasted chicken & thighs, the larger breeds take about 5 months to get to butcher size. More food.

 

The giant breasted birds? 1 person math. 2 breasts=4 servings. 2 thighs= 2 servings. 2 legs=1-2 servings. 2 wings - 1 serving (maybe leftovers) 8 servings per bird. 200-250 meals. Chicken twice a week? Over 100 weeks - i.e. 2+ years. Don't use freezer ziplocks to store for that long. Use vac packs.

 

Need help slaughtering all that chicken…… I'd recommend the person bringing some teens or friends to act as chicken pluckers!! Earn some free chicken for their help. Alone, I can do 3 chickens an hour, start to finish, the old fashioned way (just a really good sharp knife that doesn't flex under pressure). But it took an hour per bird before I got the hang of it.

 

And all the chicken left stuck to the carcass? Soup pot, boil it off, turn it into dog/cat food…. or chicken soup, or shredded chicken for green chili chicken enchiladas, or whatever. Don't like the giblets. Cats and dogs sit patiently.

 

Point is. If you head out to rural area to buy "farm fresh eggs"…. from a backyard chicken type. Maybe, they'll raise chickens for you. PIck them up 4-6 at a time, and slaughter them at home. (Don't pluck inside the house.)

 

Ha…. I wonder if there are any schools who would do a "field trip" day to learn to slaughter chickens. Hands on. Or 4-H. Or boyscouts.

Transgenderism is a make-believe religion that when taken seriously endangers the lives of all people, but especially children.

What is the or else?

 

The dreaded ‘or else’ is to be labeled anti-LGBTQ or transphobic.

 

This works for the faint of heart, but now there is a growing number of people who don’t want any more of the trans and alphabet soup shoved down their throats. They are now lining up behind those who readily admit that they are anti-trans.

 

Many people do not hesitate to say they are against communism, Marxism, socialism, BLM, ANTIFA, defund movements, and a host of other disruptive, divisive, and overtly anti-American movements and ideologies. Florida Dads Celebrate First Father’s Day After Adopting 6 Siblings: 'Instantly in Love'

 

A Florida family is gearing up for a very special Father's Day!

 

In May, Dustin and Daniel Johnson adopted six children, siblings between the ages of 3 and 11, who were living in five different foster homes before the couple entered the picture, Good Morning America reported.

 

Dustin and Daniel told GMA that they fell "instantly in love" with the kids the moment they saw them. And now, after having gone through the matching and adoption process, they're celebrating their first Father’s Day as a forever family.

 

The couple's journey to fatherhood began six years ago when Dustin and Daniel agreed to pursue adoption, according to GMA. The couple saw a need within their community near Tampa Bay and wanted to help.

 

“We knew we wanted a sibling group,” Dustin told Family Equality, a non-profit organization that supports LGBTQ+ families. “They are harder to place, and we’re starting from scratch so we were open."

 

In November 2021, the Johnsons told their adoption specialist that they were willing to adopt as many as six children. "Daniel and I kind of made the joke that we could fit six in the back of our Suburban," Dustin told GMA.

 

Just one month later, the adoption specialist reached out and asked, “How serious are you about that six number?" And they were.

 

The couple learned that they had been successfully matched with the kids in March 2022, per GMA. Then the family, who have been living together since last year, made things official on May 12.

 

“They have a life that they couldn’t dream of before," Dustin told WFLA. "They finally got their safe forever home."

 

The kids are happy, too. Reed, the oldest of the four sons, told GMA that “it’s been cool” to be part of the family while Maia, one of their two daughters, said she is “excited.”

 

The family recently visited Washington, D.C., where they met Rep. Kathy Castor, who offered them a tour after hearing about their story, according to WFLA. The family also attended a Pride Month event at the White House during their visit.

 

“Families like ours are new,” Dustin said, “and that was super important for our visibility.”

 

Meanwhile, Castor praised the Johnsons as “a beautiful example of what love can do,” according to WFLA. “When they say love wins, I think that’s exactly what they mean,” Castor said.

Study: 24,000 Fewer Abortions in U.S. Following Dobbs Decision

 

new study estimates there were 24,290 fewer legal abortions between July 2022 and March 2023, after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.

 

FiveThirtyEight obtained the study from #WeCount, which is a national research project led by the Society of Family Planning, a nonprofit that supports research about abortion and contraception. That study found that there were more than 24,000 fewer abortions compared to a pre-Dobbs baseline. #WeCount made its estimate by contacting every abortion clinic in the country multiple times over a twelve-month period.

 

The study found that there were approximately 93,575 fewer abortions in states that limited abortion for at least one week in the nine-month period after Roe v. Wade was overturned. At the same time, the number of legal abortions in states where abortion remained legal rose by 69,285 in the same period. That shift signals “that many people did travel and successfully obtain an abortion within the U.S. health care system,” according to the report.

 

“Underneath these topline trends, meanwhile, is a huge amount of variability by state. Some parts of the country, like the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest, have seen relatively small changes,” FiveThirtyEight reported of the study. “But a handful of states bordering the large swath of the South where an abortion is almost impossible to obtain are absorbing large numbers of new patients. There were 12,460 additional abortions in Florida in the nine months after Dobbs, 12,580 additional abortions in Illinois and 7,975 additional abortions in North Carolina.”

 

While #WeCount did not collect data about the state of residence for women seeking abortions, data from state public health departments shows that more people traveled after the Supreme Court’s decision to obtain abortions.

 

“In Colorado, the share of out-of-state patients doubled in one year, from 14 percent in 2021 to 28 percent in 2022, when 17 percent of Colorado’s abortion patients were from Texas alone. In Florida, 9 percent of abortions that happened in the first three months of 2023 were performed on out-of-state residents, up from 8 percent in 2022 and 6 percent in 2021,” according to the report.

A jury has found PacifiCorp liable for causing Oregon wildfires in 2020.

 

“Regardless of the outcome, a trial will never fully restore what was lost,” a PacifiCorp news release reads. “The company plans to pursue appeals, and we are confident we will prevail.”

 

Jurors ruled June 12 in the Multnomah County Circuit Court that energy provider PacifiCorp helped cause some of the state’s Labor Day 2020 wildfires, including the Santiam Canyon Fire, the Echo Mountain Complex Fire and the South Obenchain and 242 fires, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting.

 

Jurors found the company owed more than $73 million total to the 17 plaintiffs in James v. PacifiCorp. The jury decided on June 14 to also award punitive damages, potentially raising the amount owed to plaintiffs to nearly $90 million.

 

Most punitive damages go to the Oregon Department of Justice under state law, but plaintiffs get priority if the defendant cannot pay everything, according to OPB. PacifiCorp argued the verdict could cost billions, total, after compensating thousands of victims.

 

Plaintiffs allege PacifiCorp paved the way for wildfires after failing to take proper maintenance and safety steps, according to a 2020 complaint acquired by Reuters.

 

“Despite being warned of extremely critical fire conditions, defendants left their power lines energized,” the complaint reads. “Powerlines ignited massive, deadly and destructive fires that raced down the canyons, igniting and destroying homes, businesses and schools.”

 

Plaintiffs claim to have seen electrical equipment sparking fires, according to Stoll Berne, one of the firms representing them in court.

 

PacifiCorp, owned by Berkshire Hathaway, said it takes preventative measures like hosting emergency management, meteorology and data science teams, hundreds of weather stations, “grid hardening,” fire-risk software and vegetation management.

 

“We are committed to working with impacted communities to ensure everyone can thrive in our collective new reality. Wildfire remains a complex issue and the threat of wildfire continues to grow,” a PacifiCorp news release reads. “Holistic perspective and public-private leadership will be essential to adapt.”

 

PacifiCorp said its workers filled their duties in the face of the Beachie Creek fire near Santiam Canyon, which lightning ignited on Aug. 16, 2020. The company claimed this fire then spread into the Santiam Canyon. The U.S. Forest Service said some smaller fires had ignited in that area, the causes for which had been undetermined.

 

The 2020 Labor Day Wildfires, in total, burned more than 1.2 million acres, destroyed more than 5,000 homes and businesses and took nine lives, according to a 2022 report from the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Debris Management Task Force.

 

The state found it cost $355 million to remove hazardous household waste, dangerous trees, ash and debris as of June 30, 2022.
