SpaceX Starlink Mission Double Header

On Tuesday, October 15 at 1:21 a.m. PT, Falcon 9 launched 20 Starlink satellites, including 13 with Direct to Cell capabilities, to low-Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

Iran’s illicit oil revenue has swelled to nearly $200 billion under the Biden-Harris administration, according to the latest government figures and expert estimates, a windfall driven by the perennially lax enforcement of U.S. sanctions that has helped Tehran’s hardline regime obtain the cash needed to fund a brutal year-long war on Israel.

The full financial toll of this sanctions relief only became clear in recent days following the publication of a hotly anticipated U.S. government report on Iran's oil trade. The U.S. Energy Information Administration, a government agency that monitors global markets, was mandated under an April 2024 law to publicly tally Iran’s oil revenue,providing one of the first official snapshots after four years of sparse sanctions enforcement by the Biden-Harris administration.

The report, released late last week,found that Iran made $144 billion in revenue during the first three years of the Biden-Harris administration. This includes $37 billion in 2021, significantly up from the $16 billion Tehran made in 2020, the last year of the Trump administration. Oil revenue rose to $54 billion in 2022 and hit $53 billion in 2023, showing that Tehran’s trade in crude remained at historically high levels.

Iran is on pace for another big year in 2024, exporting more than $34 billion in oil through October, according to figures compiled by United Against a Nuclear Iran (UANI), an advocacy group that monitorsTehran's global oil shipments through a comprehensive tanker tracker.

The figures could explain why the Biden-Harris administration, facing criticism over the increasing chaos in the Middle East under its watch, announced late Friday a new package of sanctions on Iran’s petroleum exports. The measures grant broad authority for the American government to impose "sanctions against any person determined to operate in the petroleum or petrochemical sectors of the Iranian economy," according to the State Department.

Claire Jungman, director of UANI’s Iran Tanker Tracking Program, said the latest figures produced by the U.S. Energy Information Administration,as well as her group's 2024 estimate, should serve as a "catalyst for the administration to enforce sanctions more aggressively on vessels transporting Iranian oil."

"The illicit activity detailed in the report underscores the need for firm action to hold these vessels accountable and ensure that sanctions are effectively implemented to curtail Iran’s ability to export oil in violation of U.S. sanctions," Jungman said.

The cash windfall from Iran’s oil sales has helped the hardline regime arm its chief terror proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, as they foment terrorism against Israel in the wake of Oct. 7. Though Republicans have long sounded the alarm about Tehran’s lucrative oil trade, Democratic lawmakers are now backing a Senate measure that would bolster sanctions on Iran’s oil trade, signaling growing dissatisfaction with the Biden-Harris administration’s policies.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R., Iowa) began pushing legislation to sanction Iran’s oil business in the wake of Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, aiming to choke off the financial channels fueling Tehran’s terror proxies. That bill has now gained the support of seven Democratic lawmakers, including two in recent weeks.

"We are witnessing increased attacks on our servicemembers, historic missile assaults on our greatest partner in the Middle East, and disruptions to international commerce in the Red Sea," Ernst told the Washington Free Beacon, referring to a flurry of Iran-backed attacks on international shipping lanes in recent months. "No wonder my bill to remove money from Iran’s bloody hands is gaining support now."

Under the legislation, the Iranian Sanctions Enforcement Act, theDepartment of Homeland Security's investigations unit would receive $150 million to expand operations targeting Tehran’s large fleet of illegal crude oil tankers. By seizing these ships as they transport oil to hostile regimes like China and Venezuela, Iran would be robbed of billions of dollars, money that keeps the regime afloat and its terror proxies in business. The bill, Ernst says, is vital to ensuring Homeland Security can detect illicit Iranian shipping operations and have the resources needed to bust them at sea. (Why give DHS more money? Ernst’s bill currently has 27 Senate backers, including Democratic Sens. Richard Blumenthal (Conn.), Jacky Rosen, (Nev.), Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Bob Casey (Pa.), and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz), an independent who typically caucuses with Democrats. Two other Democrats, Sens. Mark Kelly (Ariz.) and Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), signed onto the bill in recent weeks, joining 20 GOP colleagues, 10 of whom also joined the bill within the last month.

The recent support for the bill signals growing dismay on both sides of the aisle with the Biden-Harris administration’s refusal to enforce a bevy of sanctions on Iran’s oil trade.Tehran maintains a large "ghost armada" composed of nearly 500 oil tankers that ferry crude to China, Syria, Venezuela, and other nations, often at a heavy discount.

Iranian "petroleum products are generally shipped on smaller vessels, which can avoid detection more easily than crude oil cargoes," according to the U.S. Energy Information report. "Iran uses several obfuscation techniques such as turning off its ship identification signals, applying ship-to-ship transfers, or relabeling cargoes as originating from other countries for both crude oil and oil products, which increases the challenge of providing precise export data."

Iran’s oil boom has been bolstered by sanctions relief from the Biden-Harris administration, including a White House waiver that allowed Tehran to access upwards of $10 billion in backed electricity payments from Iran. The administration also struck a $6 billion hostage deal with Iran in September 2023, freeing up even more cash.

Archaeologists Discover Intricately Decorated Coffins Belonging to the Only Daughter of an Ancient Egyptian Governor

Archaeologists have discovered a 4,000-year-old Egyptian tomb belonging to a prominent governor’s only daughter, Idi. She is buried inside two coffins—one stacked inside the other—covered in intricate decorations.

The site dates to Egypt’s Middle Kingdom, a period that stretched from around 2030 to 1650 B.C.E.

“Finding two intact Middle Kingdom coffins is extraordinary,” Kathlyn Cooney, an Egyptologist and archaeologist at UCLA who wasn’t involved in the discovery, tells Live Science’s Owen Jarus.

The coffins “not only seem well preserved but covered with intricate coffin texts that helped the deceased find their way in the realm of the underworld.”

Idi’s burial chamber was discovered in the ancient city of Asyut during a joint excavation by researchers from the University of Sohag in Egypt and the Free University of Berlin.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, archaeologists found Idi’s chamber near the tomb belonging to her father, Djefaihapi, who served as governor of the prosperous Asyut region, located along the Nile River.

His burial was the largest non-royal tomb built during the Middle Kingdom, suggesting that Djefaihapi was one of the most prominent regional governors of the era.

Researchers found Idi’s burial chamber nearly 50 feet below ground. Though it appears to have been pilfered by ancient grave robbers, it still contains the woman’s two coffins, which are engraved and painted both inside and out.

The larger coffin measures about 8.5 feet long, while the smaller one is around 7.5 feet.

Based on an analysis of Idi’s skeleton, researchers think she died before the age of 40 and had a congenital defect in one of her feet.

They also found several small artifacts, including a canopic jar—the container for a mummy’s internal organs—and two painted wooden statuettes. One of the figures may represent Idi.

The painted coffins are covered in hieroglyphic texts, which refer to Idi as the “lady of the house,” as Wolfram Grajetzki, an Egyptologist at University College London who wasn’t involved in the research, tells Live Science.

Idi’s father governed Asyut during the reign of Senusret I, the second pharaoh of the 12th Dynasty of Egypt, who ruled from 1971 until 1926 B.C.E.

As Joann Fletcher, an archaeologist at the University of York who was not involved in the excavation, tells Newsweek’s Aristos Georgiou, the woman’s tomb adds to researchers’ knowledge of the Middle Kingdom era, “which is all too often overshadowed by the earlier Old Kingdom ‘Pyramid Age’ and the late New Kingdom, with its big-name pharaohs such as Tutankhamun and [Ramses II].”

Fletcher adds that the new discovery illustrates the Middle Kingdom’s “artistic and cultural splendor, as indeed is reflected in the quality of the paintwork on the newly discovered outer coffin.”

The United Arab Emirates and Oman have been inundated with rain this week, almost as much as the country sees in two years. Speculation has been raised if this is cloud seeding gone awry. But what is cloud seeding?

Dessert areas, like United Arab Emirates, have dry climates that see very little rain every year. In an effort to make sure that rain occurs these drier climates, certain chemicals are added into the air to help make it rain, also known as cloud seeding. While some see this venture to bring rain to arid climates a good thing, others aimed to ban the practice including Tennessee.

Cloud seeding is when clouds are injected with a compound, like silver iodide, that act as condensation or ice nuclei in an attempt to to help stimulate and boost rainfall or snowfall, according to Britannica. The compounds help to mimic the natural tiny particles, like dust and dirt, that are typically the driving force for clouds to condense and let go of moisture.

The practice is usually done several ways. Seeding technologies used in the UAE essentially zap clouds with electricity or use salt flares to artificially boost rain. Others use an aerial blanketing of a compound to help stimulate a clouds condensation.

At the beginning of April, Tenn. lawmakers moved forward a controversial bill codifying a ban on "chemtrails," a widely debunked conspiracy theory that the federal government is spreading chemicals for nefarious reasons, to Gov. Bill Lee to be signed into law.

Frontier Airlines passenger rants she’s ‘president’ after pilot wouldn’t turn back for her forgotten phone

Wild video shows a Frontier Airlines passenger bizarrely claiming to be a “sovereign ruler” and “president of this whole goddamn country” in a meltdown over the pilot refusing to turn back to let her get her phone from the airport.

The unidentified female passenger erupted into the expletive-laden tirade as the flight was getting ready to take off from San Diego en route to Las Vegas, according to a viral clip posted on TikTok on Sunday.

The fellow passenger who filmed the saga claimed the woman went “crazy” at the crew after realizing she had left her phone at the gate area.

“If I was white and in a suit, you would stop the f–king plane,” the irate woman could be heard shouting at a flight attendant. “Laugh now, I am the president of this whole goddamn country. Watch see the f–king TV news.”

“Yes, I need to get off this plane and I’m gonna tell you straight up don’t you ever come against nobody because of their skin color again,” she continued, with no explanation as to why her race was involved.

The woman, who said in the clip she’d been a Frontier customer for eight years, suggested the pilot had enough warning to turn back.

“You had enough time,” she said at one point.

“Don’t tell me you had enough to stop, tell the pilot to not go. You just released him from the bay. I saw it out the window. I know it was in my heart.”

After demanding the flight attendant’s name, the woman appeared to turn her ire toward her fellow passengers, raging: “Keep laughing, watch what happens. You’ll be expired just like your battery on your watch.”

Elsewhere in the 90-second clip, the woman was filmed spewing a slew of other bizarre remarks — including that she was “an affirmed sovereign ruler here in the government.”

“Seven continents I own,” she said.

The video — captioned “Lady goes crazy on Frontier flight” — had racked up well over 400,000 views by early Monday.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the woman remained on the flight or if it was delayed due to her antics.

The Post reached out to Frontier Airlines but didn’t hear back immediately.

I’ve been passionate about space since childhood, inspired by my Dad’s career as a scientist at NASA’s Langley Research Center. As a kid, I remember reading Black Holes and Time Warps, talking physics with my Dad on long drives, and imagining science fiction that could happen in the real world.

All of this led me to Stanford, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Physics and Master’s in Mathematics.

I thought I was going to be a physicist or mathematician, but as I left college in 2008, the financial crisis was in full swing and pulled me in.

After college, my friend and I moved to New York City to start a finance company. The early years were challenging and our first companies didn’t gain traction.

The idea for space solar power can be traced back to 1941, in Isaac Asimov’s short story, “Reason”.

The sun is our greatest energy source, emitting more in an hour than Earth uses annually.

In the 1970s, researchers turned to space solar power to harness this energy in a meaningful way.

Sunlight in space is more powerful than incident sunlight on Earth, and collection in space is largely unaffected by day-night cycles and weather.

Traditional proposals called for billion-dollar, goliath structures in Geostationary orbit, using radio waves for power transmission and requiring massive footprints on the ground. The proposals never materialized.

We’re taking a different approach. We’re building a constellation of small satellites in Low Earth Orbit, working together to transmit power to many small ground stations.

Instead of transmitting power through microwaves, we’ll use infrared lasers, allowing for higher power output and smaller footprints on Earth.

This isn’t your grandfather’s space solar power concept.

Over the years, space technology has progressed rapidly. Launch costs are lower, lasers and optics are cheaper and more efficient, and constellation management is better understood.

At the same time, global energy consumption continues to skyrocket and America continues to be energy dependent.

Energy needs are growing even more with the adoption of AI, global conflicts, and the electrification of seemingly everything.

China's 'Shock' Statement: Palestinians Have Right To Use 'Armed Force' Against Israel

China has backed the right of the Palestinian people to use armed force to combat Israel's occupation of their land, calling it an "an inalienable right well founded in international law".

The comments on Thursday were made by the Chinese ambassador to the UN, Zhang Jun, during the fourth day of public hearings held by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands.

Representatives of 52 countries are addressing the ICJ on Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land.

Beijing’s envoy said there were "various people (who) freed themselves from colonial rule" and they could use "all available means, including armed struggle".

He described the Palestinian use of armed resistance as legitimate and not an act of terrorism.

"The struggle waged by peoples for their liberation, right to self-determination, including armed struggle against colonialism, occupation, aggression, domination against foreign forces should not be considered terror acts," Zhang Jun told the court.

In his speech, Jun criticized Israeli policies, characterizing them as “oppression that has severely undermined and impeded the exercises and full realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination".

The ICJ’s public hearings, which will be held until February 26, come after a UN General Assembly resolution requesting an ICJ advisory opinion.

The number of states participating in the oral proceedings is the highest of any case since the ICJ's establishment in 1945 and is separate to the more publicized genocide case brought by South Africa. A panel of 15 judges are expected to take about six months to deliberate before issuing an advisory opinion.

Besides China, other countries scheduled to participate in the hearings include Hungary, France, South Africa and Egypt.

International bodies, including the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union will also take part. Israel will not participate but has sent written observations to the court.

As the boundaries of warfare continue to extend beyond traditional battlegrounds, the U.S. Army is making strides into the space domain.

With satellite capabilities now vital to military operations, the Army is launching initiatives to bolster its space warfare expertise and develop technologies to counter adversaries’ orbital assets.

While not intended to rival the Space Force, this move highlights what officials describe as an increasing synergy between ground and orbital operations.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has served as a stark reminder of the critical role space systems play in contemporary warfare.

Russia’s deployment of jamming systems and other disruptive technologies has provided a sobering preview of future combat scenarios, the head of U.S. Space Command, Gen. Stephen Whiting, said at the recent Air & Space Power Association’s Defense Space Conference in London.

“Russia’s aggression shows that forces on land, at sea and in the air can no longer move or conceal themselves without being tracked and targeted from space or by space-enabled systems,” Whiting said.

U.S. military planners now anticipate that China would adopt similar tactics in a conflict in Asia-Pacific, putting American forces in electronically contested environments where reliable satellite communications and navigation are no longer guaranteed.

In the face of such scenarios, Army officials argue that ground forces must be better equipped to defend against — and, if necessary, disrupt — an adversary’s space capabilities.

As the U.S. military’s largest consumer of space-based services, the Army “has to be able to mitigate risks from dependencies on space while seizing the initiative to exploit adversaries’ use of space,” said Lt. Col. Joe Mroszczyk, commander of the U.S. Army’s 1st Multi-Domain Effects Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Mroszczyk runs a unit of about 500 soldiers specializing in multi-domain operations, a military term for the integrated employment of capabilities across multiple domains — land, air, sea, space and cyberspace — to gain a competitive advantage over adversaries.

He pointed out that despite the growing importance of space systems, soldiers across the Army have limited exposure or education space capabilities that are viewed as overly technical or too classified to discuss.

Across every command level in the Army, “we rely on space for intelligence, missile warning, weather, positioning, navigation and timing; all of those different mission areas support every aspect of how we operate,” Mroszczyk told SpaceNews.

“And so we need professionals to help focus on how we can integrate those capabilities better and on how to address vulnerabilities.”

Mroszczyk is a staunch proponent of an Army initiative to establish a dedicated space career field for enlisted soldiers, known as Army Space Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).

This would allow non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and junior personnel to specialize in space operations throughout their careers.

The proposal, put forth by the Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command, has yet to be approved by the Army’s top leadership.

Currently, only officers have a designated space operations career path, while enlisted soldiers serving in space-related roles come from other fields like engineering, air defense and intelligence.

These soldiers then rotate back to their original branches after a single tour.

Over the last decade, Howells has made requests to Newport Council – proprietors of the landfill where the hard drive ended up – to retrieve it, but he claims he has been "largely ignored." He is now suing the council for damages of 495 million pounds ($646 million), representing the peak valuation that 8,000 BTC reached earlier this year.

The case is due to be heard in December this year, but Howells said that his aim is to "leverage" the council into agreeing to an excavation of the site in order to avoid a legal battle, according to the report.

Supreme Court leaves in place Pennsylvania law barring people under 21 from carrying guns

The Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned a lower court ruling from Pennsylvania that allowed residents under 21 to carry firearms in public,though the justices declined for now to hear arguments in the case themselves.

At issue was a state law that barred 18-to-20 years olds from open carrying firearms during declared states of emergencies. The court’s decision tosses a federal appeals court ruling that found the law violated the Second Amendment.

The Supreme Court did not explain its ruling and no dissents were noted.

Pennsylvania, like 31 other states, sets 21 as the minimum age for certain gun rights. The state barred 18-to-20 years olds from openly carrying firearms during a state of emergency, including the one declared during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Three individual plaintiffs who wanted to carry weapons for self defense and two gun rights groups challenged the law.

Relying on the Supreme Court’s landmark Second Amendment decision from 2022, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, a divided three-judge appeals court panel found that the law was unconstitutional because there was not a similar law on the books at the time the Second Amendment was ratified.

The 2022 decision generally requires governments to point to a similar historical law in order to overcome constitutional challenges. But the 6-3 ruling, which split the court’s conservative and liberal justices, has created significant confusion in lower courts about how exact that historical antecedent must be.

Pennsylvania officials argued that the lower federal court overread the Bruen decision.Several conservative justices wrote separate opinions to note that the court’s decision said nothing about who may possess a firearm or the requirements that must be met to buy one.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has opened discussions with Joe Rogan that could see her sit down for an interview with the controversial podcast host who counts an army of impressionable young men among his listeners.

Officials from the Democratic nominee’s campaign met with Rogan’s team this week, according to a report by Reuters.

Harris’ outreach to Rogan suggests a significant shift in her campaign following a panic of sorts among Democrats who worried her previously light, cautious schedule was scuttling her chances in the election.

Polls show her locked in a close race with former president Donald Trump and struggling with several key demographics, including men. “People are nervous,” a source close to the campaign told CNN last week.

As recently as last week, Democrats fretted that Harris was playing it too safe by limiting her appearances, avoiding policy details, and sticking to softball interviewers like late night host Stephen Colbert, jeopardizing her ability to control the campaign narrative in the process.

“It’s the most difficult oral exam on the planet for the most difficult job, and part of that is just that spontaneous—town halls, all kinds of interviews, and not just friendly interviews,” David Axelrod, a Democratic strategist who worked for former president Barack Obama, told Politico last week. “I would be doing them if I were her.”

The first signs that the Harris campaign had changed tack came amid a blitz of interviews, mostly friendly, last week: the Call Her Daddy podcast, an appearance on shock jock turned Democratic stalwart Howard Stern’s radio show, The View, Colbert’s Late Show, and a grilling on CBS’ 60 Minutes.

Then came an announcement Monday that Harris agreed to a sit-down interview with conservative Fox News followed by, in the early hours of Tuesday,the leak of her team’s talks to see her visit The Joe Rogan Experience. Both suggest those fears among Democrats trickled up to the Harris braintrust, who could see an appearance with Rogan as a chance to win over male voters who are trending Republican.

A New York Times/Siena survey released last week gave former president Donald Trump an eleven point lead among male voters, with 53 percent support to 42 percent for the vice president.

Meanwhile, Rogan—whose show had 14.5 million followers on Spotify alone as of March—is arguably the American media figure most tapped into Harris’ demographic sore spot: 81 percent of his listeners are male and 56 percent are under 35, according to a YouGov poll taken last year.

Going on Rogan, however, could risk promise or peril. His rambling, freewheeling style—interviews often last up to three hours—could leave her stuck in a conspiratorial ditch. Notably, only 12 percent of Rogan’s listeners said they “trust newspapers to print the truth,” according to the YouGov poll.

When Rogan appeared to endorse Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders during the 2020 Democratic primaries, Democratic groups including MoveOn pounced on Sanders and called for him to condemnRogan for past transphobic remarks—President Joe Biden, who was then running against Sanders and is now technically Harris’ boss, appeared to join the pile on.

But, despite the fact that his guest list has sometimes looked like a carousel ofright wing grift all-stars—Jordan Peterson, Alex Jones, Russell Brand, Milo Yiannopoulos, Candace Owens—the libertarian leaning Rogan has warmed to Harris in recent weeks.

After initially saying he supported independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy for president, Rogan heaped praise on Harris for a forceful speech she gave after becoming the Democratic nominee, in which she challenged Trump to debate her.

“That one speech she gave right after they decided she was going to be the nominee, that one speech where she said, ‘if you’re going to say something, why don’t you say it to my face?’ It was great timing,” said Rogan, calling it a “banger of a speech.”

After RFK dropped out and endorsed Trump, Rogan praised Harris again last month after she was widely seen as the winner of the televised presidential debate, saying she was “nailing it.” (Idiot)
