Security Advisory: Airoha-based Bluetooth Headphones and Earbuds

Any vulnerable device can be compromised if the attacker is in Bluetooth range (note: officially 10m).That is the only precondition.

During our research on Bluetooth headphones and earbuds, we identified several vulnerabilities in devices that incorporate Airoha Systems on a Chip (SoCs). In this blog post, we briefly want to describe the vulnerabilities, point out their impact and provide some context to currently running patch delivery processes as described at this year’s TROOPERS Conference.

Introduction

Airoha is a vendor that, amongst other things, builds Bluetooth SoCs and offers reference designs and implementations incorporating these chips. They have become a large supplier in the Bluetooth audio space, especially in the area of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds. Several reputable headphone and earbud vendors have built products based on Airoha’s SoCs and reference implementations using Airoha’s Software Development Kit (SDK).

Vulnerability Description

At this point, we do not want to disclose too many details, such as proof of concept code (PoCs) or overly technical information. We want to inform about these vulnerabilities, especially their impact and the difficulties around patching them.

In short, these devices expose a powerful custom protocol that allows manipulating the device by, for example, reading and writing RAM or reading and writing to the flash.We found this protocol to be exposed via BLE GATT to an unpaired attacker. It is also exposed as RFCOMM channel via Bluetooth BD/EDR (also known as Bluetooth Classic). Missing authentication for Bluetooth Classic allows an attacker to use this protocol without pairing with the device. At this point, we decided not to disclose the name of the protocol.

The vulnerabilities are listed under the following CVE numbers that will be published in the future:

Affected Devices

The SoCs are used in devices such as headsets, earbuds, dongles, speakers, and wireless microphones. However, it is infeasible for us to comprehensively survey and identify all affected products.

During our research, we purchased a number of devices and analyzed devices from friends and colleagues. We can confirm that the issues are prevalent in many entry-level and flagship models. Vendors we confirmed ourselves are Beyerdynamic, Marshall, and Sony. Furthermore, we know of many more devices using the chips that we assume to be vulnerable, too.

Obviously, this approach does not provide a complete picture of all affected devices. What makes this even more difficult is the observation that some devices are only affected by a subset of these issues. There is at least one vendor that seems to have mitigated CVE-2025-20700 and CVE-2025-20701. Whether this was done on purpose or by accident is unknown to us.

One other issue we identified is that some vendors are not even aware that they are using an Airoha SoC. They have outsourced parts of the development of their device, such as the Bluetooth module. If you are a manufacturer of such a device and are unsure whether your devices might be affected, feel free to contact us.

The watchdog accused Wray of misleading Congress about the apparent cover-up of Chinese election interference and the FBI's anti-Catholic memo.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced earlier this month that the bureau located an intelligence report from August 2020 that detailed "alarming allegations" regarding an apparent Chinese communist plot to interfere in the presidential election for the benefit of then-candidate Joe Biden.

Such allegations, if brought to light at the time, would have vindicated the concerns about voter fraud and foreign election interference then expressed by President Donald Trump and former Attorney General Bill Barr, which were written off by election officials, Democrats, and the liberal media as "unfounded" and "preposterous."

Instead, elements of the intelligence community apparently covered up the alleged foreign election interference campaign.

"Former FBI leadership withheld the facts and misled the public on China's 2020 election interference," Patel stated on Thursday. "And they did so for political gain."

Patel noted in a separate message, "We're restoring trust — through transparency, not politics."

Researchers found 13 fetal losses—four more than the nine expected—for every 100 pregnant women who received a COVID-19 vaccine during weeks eight to 13 in pregnancy, according to the study, which was published as a preprint on the medRxiv server.

Most people in Israel, including pregnant women, received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Pfizer did not respond by publication time to a request for comment.

The team behind the study includes Retsef Levi, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology researcher who was recently named to the committee that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccines, and Dr. Tracy Hoeg, who works for the Food and Drug Administration.

The researchers analyzed electronic health records from Maccabi Healthcare Services, one of four organizations that provide health care to Israelis. They looked at 226,395 pregnancies that occurred between March 1, 2016, and Feb. 28, 2022. The primary analysis looked at fetal loss for pregnant women after dose one or dose three of a COVID-19 vaccine, with fetal loss including miscarriage, abortion, and stillbirth.

The researchers came up with an expected number of fetal losses based on a model that drew from data before the COVID-19 pandemic, then compared the expected number of fetal losses with those that occurred from week eight of pregnancy onward.

They identified 13,214 fetal losses after the COVID-19 pandemic started, compared with 12,846 fetal losses in the reference period, finding that women who received a COVID-19 vaccine during weeks eight to 13 in pregnancy experienced a higher-than-expected number of fetal losses.

Seizing the frozen funds would hasten the shift to regional payment systems, the president has said

An estimated $300 billion worth of Russian sovereign assets were frozen by the West following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. Around €200 billion ($209 billion) is held by Euroclear, a Brussels-based clearing house. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has repeatedly called for the funds to be tapped for Ukraine’s reconstruction, although some member states have pushed back on the idea.

There’s constant talk in the West “about how they are going to steal our money,” Putin said at the Eurasian Economic Forum in Minsk on Thursday. “As soon as it happens, the shift toward regional payment systems will accelerate and undoubtedly become irreversible,” he said, adding that ultimately that would be a good thing for the global economy.

“Maybe it’s even worth paying the price for that,” the president argued.

Putin added upon further reflection that the term “theft” was insufficient. “Theft is the secretive taking of property – this is open. This is robbery,” he said.

“We’re determined to continue strengthening our own financial and settlement instruments in this regard,” Putin stressed.

The frozen funds have already accrued billions of euros in interest, $1.63 billion of which Euroclear transferred to Kiev last July to back a $50 billion loan for Ukraine provided by the G7.

Brussels is currently discussing ways to extract more revenue from the immobilized assets without violating international legal norms. The International Monetary Fund has warned that outright seizure could damage global trust in Western financial institutions.

Discussions among member states about confiscating the assets have been ongoing for more than three years without any resolution.

Moscow has condemned the freezing of its assets and has hinted at possible retaliatory measures against Western investments and property in Russia.

Trump Team Launches SuperPAC Focused Solely On Ousting Massie

Homan Reveals ICE Rescuing Migrant Children Trafficked To Pedos Under Biden, Lives Apart From Wife Due To Death Threats

President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, revealed that ICE has rescued migrant children sex-trafficked under the Biden administration, while noting he’s been separated from his wife due to death threats tied to enforcing Trump’s immigration policies.

“There were 300,000 missing children under the last administration,” Homan told Miranda Devine’s “Pod Force One” podcast. "We rescued victims of sex trafficking [and] two weeks ago, we rescued a 14-year-old that was already pregnant, living with adult men.”

“We rescued some victims of forced labor. We found children working on ranches and chicken farms, not going to school, but enslaved labor in the United States of America,” Trump’s border czar continued.

“Some of the children we found [were] perfectly fine with their families. They just didn’t respond to call-ins [because they] didn’t want to face the consequences of immigration court,” he added.

ICE officers previously disclosed to the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General that thousands of migrant children were handed over to non-family sponsors, with HHS releasing over 14,500 in 2023 and 9,600 in 2024 to unrelated individuals or distant relatives, according to the New York Post. Additionally, only 1,000 of 2,400 kids in one November 2023 week went to parents or legal guardians.
