ATLANTA — Reactions are beginning to come in after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot while speaking at a public event on a college campus in Utah on Wednesday afternoon.

Kirk, a popular conservative political activist and media personality, was at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, as part of his "American Comeback Tour." This was his first stop since resuming the tour.

“We are confirming that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie,” Aubrey Laitsch, public relations manager for Turning Point USA told The Associated Press.

The spokesperson confirmed he was hospitalized. Video taken at the location shows Kirk bleeding heavily from an apparent gunshot wound to his neck. No other injuries have been reported.

Utah Valley University issued an alert that "a single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody."
