New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is "not an antisemite," leaders of the antizionist haredi (ultra-Orthodox) Satmar community wrote in the upcoming edition of weekly community newspaper Der Blatt.

Screenshots of the article in the newspaper, dated for Friday, were shared by Jewish NYC journalists on Wednesday.

The Satmar community in New York is split based on which son of the previous grand rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum is recognized as the legitimate heir.

Der Blatt is the outlet of the followers of Aaron Teitelbaum, However, the other Satmar community, which follows Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, also issued a similar statement, condemning the "vicious campaign" portraying Mamdani as an antisemite as "false and dangerous."

Notably, neither Satmar community issued an official endorsement for any mayoral candidate.

Mamdani visited Satmar community leaders during the Sukkot festival on October 10.

"WASHINGTON—The Pentagon has ordered the National Guard to create “quick reaction” forces in every state and territory by January that are trained and equipped to respond to riots and civil unrest within the U.S., according to internal Defense Department memos.

The riot control units are a major shift for the Pentagon, underscoring the Trump administration’s push to directly involve the military in responding to protests and other domestic missions that have been off-limits except in emergencies.

As many as 500 soldiers in each state or territory National Guard organization will be assigned to deploy in the U.S. on short notice and receive nonlethal training in crowd control, handling of detainees and use of batons, stun guns and body shields, according to the Pentagon directives.

President Trump directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in August to set up the specialized units. The memos, which were sent to state Guard organizations as guidance for setting up the quick reaction forces, were reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. The Guardian previously reported the directives.

They indicate that the Pentagon is carrying out Trump’s order on a large-scale and expedited timeline.

A Corsican couple admitted they changed Macron's name in the database as a protest against government policy.³

The French government tried to prosecute them.

Fresh Israeli Strikes Again Test Trump-Brokered Gaza Deal

The Israel-Hamas ceasefire continues hanging by a thread, now about two-and-a-half weeks in, but there are new reports of airstrikes in Gaza by Israeli warplanes.

Israeli warplanes and tanks struck targets in eastern Gaza on Thursday, according to Palestinian residents and witnesses, cited in Reuters and other outlets. Over 100 Palestinians have died after on Tuesday Israel resumed airstrikes, citing the death of an IDF reserve soldier after Hamas gunmen opened fire in Rafah.

Wednesday saw Israel's military proclaim that it was returning to observing the ceasefire, following pressure from the White House. But Thursday's new airstrikes suggest fighting and bombardments have continued, and events on the ground have not aligned with the public-facing rhetoric.

Witnesses reported around ten airstrikes east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, alongside tank shelling near Gaza City in the north, Reuters has noted in its latest reporting.

But Israel is still claiming the ceasefire is on, calling the new operation "precise strikes" against "terrorist infrastructure posing a threat to troops" in areas still under Israeli control.

So it seems that the Israeli rationale is based on these new strikes only taking place where Israel's military is fully deployed, and not in places like Gaza City where the IDF withdrew as part of the Phase 1 agreement called for in Trump's peace plan.

Hamas has this week communicated its readiness and willingness to abide by the terms of the ceasefire, and says it is preparing to hand over more hostage bodies to Israel - amid a broader search for more remains.

Hamas officials have criticized "a systematic campaign of misinformation" by the Israeli side said to be aimed at concealing "crimes against civilians."

Meanwhile there are separate reports that fighting in the West Bank has been heating up, which could also serve to threaten the truce deal in Gaza:

Vice President J.D. Vance had said of the flare-up in fighting and resulting airstrikes Tuesday afternoon, "Despite the clashes today, the ceasefire agreement in Gaza will continue." The Trump White House has been seeking to stabilize the ceasefire, with American delegations going back-and-forth frequently of late to Israel.

IDF investigating after troops adorn heavy machinery in Gaza with Third Temple flags

The IDF says it is investigating after troops in the 36th Division adorned their heavy machinery with flags calling to build the Third Temple in Jerusalem.

Army Radio reports that a reservist in the division handed out the flags, which were placed on bulldozers and other engineering vehicles in Gaza, against army protocol.
