The Marine Corps Birthdays – Fact and Legend

BLUF: On 10 November 1775, the Continental Congress in Philadelphia authorized the raising of two battalions of

Marines to serve “for and during the present war between Great Britain and the colonies.” Shortly after this resolution,

Marines were recruited and served aboard ships, notably as sharpshooters taking out enemy officers. What many do not

know, however, is that the Continental Marine Corps was disbanded after the Revolutionary War in 1783 and ceased to

exist for the next 15 years. It was not until 11 July 1798, however, that Congress established the United States Marine

Corps.

SETTING THE STAGE: The official birthday of the Marine Corps is on 10 November 1775. That was the day when the

Second Continental Congress established the Continental Marines with the following decree:

That two battalions of Marines be raised consisting of one Colonel, two lieutenant-colonels, two majors and other

officers, as usual in other regiments; that they consist of an equal number of privates as with other battalions, that

particular care be taken that no persons be appointed to offices, or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good

seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve for and during the present war with Great Britain

and the Colonies; unless dismissed by Congress; that they be distinguished by the names of the First and Second

Battalions of Marines.

Tun Tavern, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is regarded as the birthplace of the Corps as the location of the first Marines

to enlist under Captains of Marines Samuel Nicholas and John Mullen. However, it is disputed if a recruiting drive may

have occurred earlier at Nicholas’s family tavern, the Conestoga Waggon. When the Revolutionary War ended in 1783,

the Continental Navy was disestablished, and with it, the Continental Marines. The Corps was re-established on 11 July

1798, when President John Adams signed the Act of Congress for establishing and organizing a Marine Corps.

THE STORY: Before 1921, Marines celebrated the recreation of the Corps on 11 July with little pomp or pageantry.

On 21 October 1921, Major Edwin North McClellan, in charge of the Corps’s fledgling historical section, sent a

memorandum to Commandant John A. Lejeune, suggesting the Marines’ original birthday of 10 November be declared a

Marine Corps holiday to be celebrated throughout the Corps. Lejeune so ordered:

The record of our corps is one which will bear comparison with that of the most famous military organizations in

the world’s history. During 90 of the 146 years of its existence the Marine Corps has been in action against the

Nation’s foes. From the Battle of Trenton to the Argonne, Marines have won foremost honors in war, and in the

long eras of tranquility at home, generation after generation of Marines have grown gray in war in both

hemispheres and in every corner of the seven seas, that our country and its citizens might enjoy peace and

security.

In every battle and skirmish since the birth of our corps, Marines have acquitted themselves with the greatest

distinction, winning new honors on each occasion until the term “Marine” has come to signify all that is highest

in military efficiency and soldierly virtue.

This high name of distinction and soldierly repute we who are Marines today have received from those who

preceded us in the corps. With it we have also received from them the eternal spirit which has animated our

corps from generation to generation and has been the distinguishing mark of the Marines in every age. So long

been in the past, and the men of our Nation will regard us as worthy successors to the long line of illustrious men

who have served as “Soldiers of the Sea” since the founding of the Corps.

1) The November elections may have the result of encouraging the uniparty thereby causing them to expose themselves as still functional resulting in a backlash.

2) The return of Michael Gates to California may be the repositioning of assets to begin clearing out of the cabal there.

3) I think Trump's filibuster calls were a pressure tactic. Note his response to Thune refusing. Compare that to how he responds to others that have balked him.

4) I note the release of the USAID organization info. A major piece of data IMO. Interesting timing.

It is curious how the mind works. I predicted near the beginning of the shutdown that 45 days would be a major time point. I am not saying I "knew" anything. I just find it curious how close to the mark I was. My rational appears to have been off but the timing was correct. Could also be a case of Pareidolia.

Former South Korean president Yoon Suk-yel is facing more criminal charges as prosecutors allege that he flew drones over North Korea in a deliberate bid to stoke tensions and justify his plans to declare martial law.

Yoon set off the most serious political crisis in South Korea’s recent history when he imposed martial law on Dec. last year and sent troops to surround the National Assembly.

He was later impeached and removed from office, and is in jail standing trial on charges including masterminding a rebellion.

His successor, President Lee Jae-myung, approved legislation that launched independent investigations into Yoon’s martial law stunt and other criminal allegations involving his wife and administration.

Yoon and two of his top defense officials yesterday were charged with benefitting the enemy and committing abuse of power over their alleged drone flights, which happened about two months before the declaration of martial law, a special investigation team said.

North Korea accused Seoul of flying drones over Pyongyang, the North’s capital, to drop propaganda leaflets three times in October last year.

Yoon’s defense minister, Kim Yong-hyun, initially made a vague denial, but South Korea’s military later switched to saying it could not confirm whether the North’s claim was true.

Any public confirmation of South Korean reconnaissance activities inside North Korea is highly unusual.

Tensions rose sharply at the time, with North Korea threatening to respond with force, but neither side took any major action and tensions gradually subsided.

When Yoon announced martial law, he briefly cited “threats from North Korean communist forces,” but focused on his fights with the liberal-controlled parliament that obstructed his agenda, impeached top officials and slashed his government’s budget bill.

Park Ji-young, a senior investigator working for independent counsel Cho Eun-suk, told a briefing yesterday that her team had indicted Yoon, Kim and Yeo In-hyung, ex-commander of the military’s counterintelligence agency, over the alleged drone flying.

She said the trio “undermined the military interests of the Republic of Korea by increasing the danger of a South-North armed conflict with the purpose of setting up an environment for declaring emergency martial law,” Park said.

There were no immediate public responses from Yoon, Kim or Yeo, but in July, Yoon’s defense team said Yoon had maintained he was not informed of the drone flights.

Prohibition left a few scars on the American psyche, but it also gave us some great stories. One of those is the tale of Templeton Rye.

Here are the bones:During the time of the Great Thirst, the farmers of Templeton, Iowa (population 362) made the same discovery other farmers have stumbled on for centuries-that it was more profitable to distill their crops into whiskey than to sell them as food. The rye whiskey made in Templeton gained a wide reputation, and was considered to be the best of its kind. At its peak it sold for $5.50 per gallon, or the equivalent of $75 in 2012 dollars. It also became the favorite whiskey of Al Capone, who both drank it and resold it on the black market. Templeton Rye became well-known in the speakeasies of Kansas City, Omaha and Chicago, and was famous as far away as New York and San Francisco.

After Repeal, a number of local farmers continued to produce their illegal whiskey, and Templeton Rye became an underground legend. A man namedScott Bushsampled it frequently during visits to his family in Iowa, when his grandparents would produce a bottle from their secret stash. Bush became fascinated by the quality of the whiskey as well as its connection to his family heritage, and decided to establish Templeton as a legal brand.

The problem was finding someone who still had the recipe.Bush’s Uncle Gus referred him to the Kerkhoffs. AlphonseKerkhoff had been one of the leading whiskey producers during Prohibition; his son Meryl, then 80 years old, had learned how to distill Templeton as a young man. He was initially unwilling to talk to Bush, but finally opened up after Uncle Gus vouched for him. He gave the recipe to his son, Keith, and Keith Kerkhoff and Scott Bush became partners.

Templeton Rye began production at MGP Distillers in Indiana, and has since come home. It was launched to the public in 2005, and began distribution outside the state in 2007. It spends four years in charred, new American oak barrels before release. Templeton started out as a single-barrel whiskey, and made the transition to small batch after reports of inconsistent bottles filtered back to Iowa. Bottling 15-20 barrels at a time, selected from different positions in the rick house, has enabled Bush and Kerkhoff to market a standardized product. They have built their own distillery in Templeton; in addition to being the town’s largest employer, they are committed to preserving the oral history of the whiskey and the Prohibition era.

(Note: Templeton received some criticism-and three class-action lawsuits, in fact-for not fully disclosing that they initially purchased rye from Midwestern Grain Producers in Indiana. This is a fairly standard practice among craft distilling startups who haven't been around long enough to age their own whiskey, and MGP makes a quality product. Templeton eventually settled the lawsuits by offering a partial refund to consumers who purchased the product between the launch and 2015, and agreed to put "Distilled in Indiana" on the label).

Tasted neat, Templeton Rye has an assertive, spicy nose with indications of barrel sweetness. The sweet/spicy theme continues in the mouth, with the whiskey presenting a complex flavor profile: a ripe, plump texture is amplified by notes of vanilla and honey, and balanced by strong hints of pepper and grain. The finish is long and mellow, and this is an absolute pleasure to sip on its own (Al Capone was tight on target). Mixed into a Manhattan, it’s remarkably smooth and charming-unctuous and spicy at once, flavorful and fascinating.

As with all rye whiskey nowadays, demand for Templeton exceeds supply. Distribution is growing slowly, but the growth of production has been hampered by the four-year aging period-a typical dilemma for a whiskey startup. However, even if it hasn’t reached your state, it’s fairly easy to acquire Templeton through one of the larger Internet suppliers (Binny’s, K & L Wine Merchants, Hi-Time Wine Cellars, etc.). The average retail price is $40, and worth every penny.

FBI launches new drone threat training center at Redstone Arsenal

Congressman Dale W. Strong, D-Alabama, joined Federal Bureau of Investigation and Administration officials, law enforcement leaders and the first graduating class of trainees last Friday at Redstone Arsenal to mark the official ribbon cutting of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Counter-Unmanned Training Center, NCUTC.

The newly established center—the first of its kind—will serve as the nation’s premier hub for preparing law enforcement and security professionals to detect, assess and counter emerging unmanned aircraft system, UAS, threats.

Congressman Strong praised the Center as a strategic investment in America’s homeland security and applauded its mission as essential to protecting communities and major national events.

“This Center represents a major step forward in how we prepare our law enforcement and security professionals to confront new and evolving threats,” said Strong.

“In the years leading up to today, I’ve worked to strengthen our national counter-UAS posture, and the men and women trained here will play a critical role in securing our homeland and protecting millions of Americans.”

Strong emphasized that the creation of the NCUTC delivers on years of bipartisan, bicameral efforts in Congress to advance a unified national approach to counter-UAS training, ensuring that federal, state and local officials have access to advanced instruction and safe, effective tactics.

He also highlighted how the Center’s mission will directly support security preparations for upcoming global events hosted in the United States, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Deadly car blast in Indian capital

Eight people are confirmed dead after a vehicle exploded near a crowded metro station in New Delhi

Eight people have been confirmed dead and dozens more injured by a car blast in a densely populated area of India’s capital, New Delhi, on Monday. The incident took place outside the Red Fort metro station at about 7pm local time during the evening rush hour, according to local media reports.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha told the media that the blast occurred in a “slow moving vehicle that stopped at the red light.” He noted that there were passengers inside. In a statement to the press, Shah stated that authorities are exploring “all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation” and that the findings will be presented to the public.

While the nature of the blast or who may have been involved remains unclear, Indian media outlets have noted that the blast took place on the same day that police found nearly 2,900 kg of explosives in the city of Faridabad, located just 50km away from the Indian capital.

The bust was made in connection with a major counter-terrorist operation conducted by Jammu, Kashmir, and Haryana Police. Two men - an assistant university professor and a doctor - are said to have been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, SP Vaid, told the ANI news outlet that the suspects are likely linked to Pakistan’s “deep state” and that the seized explosives were set to be used for a terrorist attack.

In a statement on X, Modi extended his condolences to the families of the victims and added that those affected are already being assisted by authorities.

Ukraine has been working frantically through Sunday into Monday to restore electricity and heating after a wave of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure severely disrupted parts of the country’s power supply over the weekend, which we documented earlier.

Moscow has only intensified its assaults on Ukraine's energy network in recent months as Trump-backed peace efforts have waned, with each side blaming the other for this. Friday into Saturday alone saw many hundreds of drones and missile pummel Ukraine.

But Ukraine answered, as we also reported, by leaving more than 20,000 people without power in areas near the border, according to local Russian officials.

The war-ravaged nation's energy minister Svitlana Grynchuk had said Saturday, "Currently, power generation is down to zero" and introduced that rolling power outages would remain, with the power cut for between eight and 16 hours a day across most regions of Ukraine through Sunday.

She further indicated regular outages would be seen across Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Chernigiv and Sumy oblasts.

"The enemy inflicted a massive strike with ballistic missiles, which are extremely difficult to shoot down. It is hard to recall such a number of direct strikes on energy facilities since the beginning of the invasion," she told a local TV station.

She further called the Friday into Saturday Russian assault "one of the most difficult nights" since the February 2022 all-out Russian invasion.

There have even been new outages due to fresh shelling of critical infrastructure on Monday, with state energy company Ukrenergo announcing:

"Due to the consequences of Russian shelling, a difficult situation in the energy system – today measures to limit consumption are being applied. By the end of the day in most regions there will be hourly outage schedules covering 2 to 4 stages. Also in regions where hourly power cuts are used, there will also be power-limitation schedules for industry and business."

The optics are undeniable: while the country suffers through a government shutdown, with welfare programs shuttered and inflation, healthcare and basic cost-of-living expenses skyrocketing, the elite are living it up.

One could fairly say that a kleptocracy was always going to be the end result of the oligarchy that was America.

The signs were visible long before now: power and wealth have been trading places for decades.

Indeed, it has been more than a decade since researchers at Princeton and Northwestern concluded that the U.S. is a functional oligarchy in which “political outcomes overwhelmingly favored very wealthy people, corporations, and business groups,” while the influence of ordinary citizens was at a “non-significant, near-zero level.”

So now we find ourselves in this present moment where billionaires are running the show.

In the White House, President Trump is redecorating, transforming what had been known as “the people’s house” into a palace fit for an American king, complete with marbled bathrooms and a sprawling, gold-fitted ballroom. The rest of the administration, taking its cue from their leader, are jetting around at taxpayer expense for lavish vacations, sporting events—and decadent parties at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Florida retreat.

The responses to criticisms either deflect to how other administrations wasted money or, in the case of the ballroom, insist the project is privately funded—and therefore beyond reproach because taxpayers aren’t paying for it.

1: The Pentagon classified Matt’s manifesto. Why? We already know what he said.

2: A mainstream media outlet (considered one of the more reputable ones by our current fake news standards) reached out on Oct 27, 8 days before this article was published . They told me they had new information and wanted to talk about the email claims of gravitic propulsion systems. They’re digging into these claims and wanted to know what I thought (I was of little to no help).

Some Democrats have spoken out against their colleagues after they advanced a deal to end the record-breaking 40-day government shutdown.

Seven Democrats and one independent voted with Republicans in the Senate late Sunday to end the shutdown, which has left federal workers without pay for more than a month.

Those who support the deal include John Fetterman, a Democratic senator from Pennsylvania, who apologized to those government workers who have gone weeks without being paid, calling the shutdown a “failure.”

But several big names in the party, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent, have criticized the deal and those that voted for it, with Newsom calling it “pathetic.”

The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has caused cascading disruptions for millions of Americans, from delayed SNAP benefits to thousands of flight cancellations and weeks without pay for hundreds of thousands of federal workers. What it does, first of all, is it raises health care premiums for over 20 million Americans by doubling and, in some cases, tripling or quadrupling–people can’t afford that, we’re already paying the highest prices in the world for health care.”

Democratic Pennsylvania Representative Summer Lee said in a post on X: “Americans have endured the pain of the longest government shutdown in history for a 'deal' that guarantees nothing on healthcare. If Republicans wanted to vote to extend subsidies, they would’ve done it already. Capitulating is unacceptable.”

Democratic Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto said in an address at the Capitol: “It's our responsibility to work not only here amongst ourselves, but across the aisle to solve these problems for the Americans, make their lives a little bit easier. And that's what we have done tonight.”

Democratic Virginia Senator Tim Kaine said in a statement posted to X: “I have long said that to earn my vote, we need to be on a path toward fixing Republicans’ health care mess and to protect the federal workforce.

“This deal guarantees a vote to extend Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, which Republicans weren’t willing to do. Lawmakers know their constituents expect them to vote for it, and if they don’t, they could very well be replaced at the ballot box by someone who will.”

Wendy’s to close 300 stores nationwide starting later this year

Ohio-based Wendy’s is planning to close hundreds more stores nationwide just a year after shuttering 140 locations.

Interim CEO Ken Cook told investors in a Friday, Nov. 7, quarterly earnings call that the Dublin-Ohio based fast-food company would be closing a “mid single-digit percentage” of locations. With about 6,000 locations operating nationwide, that means 240 to 360 stores could close. One investor estimated the number at about 300 locations during the call.

“When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective,” Cook said on the call. “The goal is to address and fix those restaurants.”

In some cases, that will mean making improvements to technology or equipment or transferring struggling locations to new operators. In others, he said, it will mean closing the restaurants altogether.

Thailand suspends ‘Trump-brokered’ peace with Cambodia

The two Southeast Asian nations signed a peace deal last month, which the US president took credit for

Thailand has suspended a peace deal with Cambodia reached just over two weeks ago that US President Donald Trump claimed to have helped broker.

Bangkok announced the decision on Monday after four Thai soldiers patrolling the border with Cambodia were injured by a landmine, which Thai authorities allege was recently laid. One soldier reportedly lost a foot in the incident.

The neighboring Southeast Asian countries inked a peace deal late last month in Malaysia. following a five-day-long military flare-up in a long-simmering colonial-era border dispute. Trump was present for the signing and took credit for the initiative.

During a press conference on Monday, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that he was suspending the deal and the next steps of its implementation.

“What happened demonstrates hostility towards Thailand and a continued security threat…What we have been pursuing must now be put on hold until clarity is restored,” he said.

Defense Minister Nattapon Narkphanit claimed that, because the patrol path on which the incident happened was regularly checked, the mine must have been freshly laid, according to the Bangkok Post.

“This is an act by a Cambodia that does not observe the declaration signed on October 26, 2025,” he was quoted as saying.

Bangkok has reportedly sent a formal protest to Phnom Penh over the incident.

It has also put on hold plans to repatriate 18 captured Cambodian soldiers later this week, which was the next step in implementing the peace deal.

Trump has claimed credit for ending eight wars since the beginning of his second term: Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo and Rwanda, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Pakistan and India, and most recently between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

However, New Delhi has denied any external involvement in its ceasefire with Islamabad, and a number of other “wars” Trump has cited never broke out into actual fighting.

Nevertheless, the US president has argued that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.

An estimated 300,000 people are expected to be affected after the Trump administration reduced eligibility for SNAP benefits

Ukrainians living in the US have been cut off from food benefits after the administration of President Donald Trump redefined eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP).

Around 300,000 Ukrainians currently reside in the US, the director of the Hope for Ukraine charity fund, Yury Boyechko, told All Rise News.He noted that most of them have been receiving SNAP benefits, which provide monthly payments of around $210 per person, or $1,000 per family with children.

Boyechko said refugees began receiving official letters in late October warning that SNAP would be restricted to US citizens, lawful permanent residents, Cubans and Haitians, and individuals residing under a Compact of Free Association. The letters stated that recipients outside these categories would be disqualified from the program.

The change stems from Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ signed in July, which reduced federal payments to individuals living in the US under temporary protected status or humanitarian parole, which had been given out to many Ukrainians who entered the country since 2022.

US officials said the changes are meant to ensure taxpayer benefits go to citizens and legal residents instead of subsidizing illegal aliens.

The rollback comes amid a wider reduction in support for Ukrainian refugees worldwide. Poland, Germany, Latvia, Finland, Switzerland, and other Western nations have all tightened eligibility or reduced benefits in recent months, citing budget pressures and limited housing capacity.

Reports have also pointed to rising anti-Ukrainian sentiment in several EU states. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said earlier this year that Poles have become increasingly frustrated by “hundreds of thousands of young Ukrainians driving the best cars around Europe and spending weekends in five-star hotels.”

It is actually treasonous what they are doing with trying to block tariffs or to make us pay them back.
