Police activity shuts down traffic on Hoover Dam bridge

Police activity on the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge has traffic to the area shut down, Las Vegas police said Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the area just after 10:30 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Larry Hadfield said. Multiple law enforcement agencies have been called to the area to help, he said.

Traffic at both ends of the bridge is shut down, and the activity presents no danger to the public, Hadfield said.

She has donated millions of dollars to various charities and organizations, with most of her money going to three foundations: The Angel Network, The Oprah Winfrey Foundation, and The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation.

Using her talk to show to publicize The Angel Network, Winfrey has said that 100% of any donation you give, goes directly towards funding a project. Some examples of the projects are The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa and Rebuilding the Gulf Coast.

The Oprah Winfrey Foundation is run exclusively by Oprah Winfrey. (You can not donate to this organization, because it’s funded by an endowment.) The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation was initially created in 2007 to give money towards the Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. Through these organizations, Winfrey has truly established herself as an altruistic person. She has extended her arm and influence far and wide throughout the world.

Besides these organizations, Oprah has volunteered her time with other, various charities. Oprah signed a wooden dog bone for an auction that will benefit the Mississippi Animal Rescue League. Oprah also gave 300 members of her audience $1000 each to donate to a charity of their choice. Winfrey helped design and signed a pair of shoes for the Stuart Weitzman charity shoe auction benefiting ovarian cancer awareness and research.

Oprah is also a big supporter of the Clinton Foundation, which supports many causes including treating HIV and AIDS and fighting climate change. She donates to Project Cuddle, which rescues hundreds of babies from abandonment and abuse every year. She is one of the largest contributors to Free The Children, an organization dedicated to building schools for children in developing countries. Oprah has also auctioned off some of the cars from her collection for charity.

On The Oprah Winfrey Show, she has talked about various issues including the importance to donate to charity. Winfrey also created www.oprah.com, a website that shows information related to her show, book club, and, of course, public charity. On top of all this, Oprah also has a will that will donate 1 billion dollars to charity.

Oprah Winfrey is, beyond all doubt, one of the greatest philanthropists in the 21st century.

ND-Sen: Republican Kevin Cramer splits with President Trump on immigration reform. Here’s why.

Despite largely tying himself to President Donald Trump and the “Make America Great Again” agenda, Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) — who is challenging Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D) for her Senate seat — is breaking from the White House on one of its most important issues: immigration.

The Trump administration does not hide its immigration agenda, controversial as it is. Trump has openly advocated against illegal immigration, supports a border wall, and seeks to limit the number of legal immigrants allowed in the U.S. each year.

However, Cramer doesn’t believe Trump’s agenda, specifically toward legal immigrants, is in the best interest of North Dakota.

What did Cramer say?

The congressman told the Washington Examiner in a recent interview that if the Trump administration moves forward with its plan to curtail legal immigration then important North Dakota employment sectors like health care, as well as emerging industries like technology, will be hit especially hard.

“If it weren’t for doctors from India, North Dakota would be short a lot of doctors and a lot of other health care professionals. I don’t like the idea of reducing the numbers of legal immigrants to come into the country, because right now we have an economy that is in greater need of workforce than jobs,” he told the Examiner.

The Trump administration is currently considering a plan that would make it more difficult for legal immigrants — those who hold valid green cards — from becoming citizens if they ever directly benefited from a welfare program.

However, two of Trump’s biggest immigration reform planks — building a border wall and emphasizing legal immigrants who are highly skilled and educated individuals — represent ideas that Cramer supports.

Still, he emphasized qualitative discretion, not simply quantitative limitations.

“But I think a legal immigration system that is generous in volume but discretionary in its scrutiny — by that I mean of course, skill-sets and education, merit-based system,” he told the Examiner. “I think a generous merit-based system makes sense for our economy.”

Where does Heitkamp stand?

Heitkamp, a moderate Democrat facing an uphill battle in Trump country, is mostly onboard with the president’s immigration agenda. In fact, she has gone so far as to criticize the administration for not acting decisively on border security more than a year and a half into Trump’s presidency.

“I do not believe our Southwest border’s secure. So I don’t share the view, when people say: ‘Well, we don’t need to do anything, the border’s secure.’ The border’s not secure. But we need to be smart about how we do border security,” she said earlier in August. “We’re waiting for a southern border strategy.”

She also told Breitbart News last week that she hopes to avoid a government shutdown next month, one Trump has promised if border security is not funded.

“I’ve always supported increased and enhanced border security along our southwest border with Mexico — including physical barriers, sensors, drones, and more resources at our ports of entry — and yes, wall funding as well. My votes clearly reflect a commitment to robust border security funding. And shutting down the government is never the way to go,” she said.

Michigan - Group of 4 Girls Fought Off Pervert Abductor With Hot Coffee

Four girls ranging 11 to 14 in age were just hanging out and spending time in a Speedway store in Millington, Michigan when a man tried to abduct one of them from out of nowhere. The group had the presence of mind to fight back including throwing hot coffee on the bad guy to wrestle back their friend and keep her safe.

The girls told the police the bad guy first went for the youngest of their group, grabbing her around the head and telling her “she was coming with him.” The three other girls quickly rose to the perilous situation and threw hot coffee on the man and kicked him, too, until he let the youngest girl go.

The danger did not end there for the girls as the bad guy identified as 22-year-old Bruce Hipkins then grabbed another girl by the hair. The remaining three girls just renewed their attack against the man until he was forced to release the second girl he tried to abduct.

The first girl the man tried to abduct, 11-year-old Allison Eickhoff said: “’My sister’s friend just kept hitting, kicking and scratching him and I just kept hitting him, too.”

One would think Hipkins would have stopped after two failed attempts to abduct any girl from the feisty, fighting group but apparently, he made a go of his vicious intention by trying a third time.

He grabbed a third girl by the hair next, but again the other three girls fought him by kicking him until he was forced again to free the girl. He tried to flee from the scene but a Speedway employee called 911.

Police arrived to take the girls’ statements. They later arrested Hipkins walking north on M-15 near Ellis Road in Millington. Hipkins was booked into the Tuscola County Jail.

Hipkins was charged with kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to commit sexual penetration and other charges. The police said Hipkins has developmental disabilities.

The youngest girl, Allison, remains shaken from the experience that could have put any one of their lives and safety at risk, but she’s glad they fought hard and collectively at that. The young girl still finds the magnanimity despite her age to wish Hipkins will get the help he badly needs.
