In a rare display of bipartisanship, Senate Judiciary Committee members seemed to offer their support this morning for the growing movement among states to pass extreme risk protection orders, commonly known as red flag laws, since the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

That would seem to be an endorsement of a bill introduced in February by Senator Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat and the ranking committee member, that would encourage states to use federal funding to offset the cost of implementing red flag policies. But not a single Republican has signed on to cosponsor the measure, despite its compatibility with Graham’s stated aims….

Two Russian air force planes landed outside Caracas on Saturday carrying nearly 100 Russian troops. The U.S. government believes the troops include special forces and cybersecurity personnel.

 

Asked how he would make Russian forces leave, Trump said: "We'll see. All options are open."

 

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence met with Rosales to express support for her husband, who invoked the constitution to assume the interim presidency in January, saying President Nicolas Maduro's re-election was not legitimate.

 

"The United States views Russia's arrival of military planes this weekend as an unwelcome provocation," Pence told reporters.

 

"We call on Russia today to cease all support of the Maduro regime and stand with Juan Guaido and stand with nations across this hemisphere and across the world until freedom is restored," Pence said.

Baker Testimony Reveals Concerns About FBI Probe, Pre-Election Contacts With Mother Jones Reporter

 

James Baker, the former general counsel at the FBI, provided a stunning testimony to congressional investigators in October last year. The career lawyer, who left the FBI in May 2018, played a significant role in the investigation of then-candidate Donald Trump. Transcripts of Baker’s two testimonies before Congress were reviewed by The Epoch Times for this article.

 

Perhaps the most telling statement in Baker’s testimony, was his admission of how unusual the FBI’s actions were. During testimony, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), who along with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) had been questioning Baker, paused to outline his concerns, telling Baker, “everything about this investigation seems to have been done in an abnormal way, the way that you have gotten the information, the way that Peter Strzok got information, the way that Bruce Ohr was used, the way that Perkins Coie actually came in and gave you information.” Meadows noted that, “with all this stuff that we are talking about…you ought to look at this with a jaundiced eye, would you agree?” Baker responded: “I had a jaundiced eye about everything, yes. I had skepticism about all this stuff. I was concerned about all of this. This whole situation was horrible, and it was novel and we were trying to figure out what to do, and it was highly unusual.” Baker closed his statement by noting, “I am not good enough to sort out the political implications of a lot of things.”

 

But for a man who claimed to not be in tune with political considerations, Baker had significant involvement in the FBI’s investigation of President Trump. Baker repeatedly metwith Michael Sussmann, a partner at Perkins Coie, who shared with him information that detailed alleged communications between servers in Trump Tower and servers located in Russia at Alfa Bank—an allegation that eventually was debunked. Baker also acknowledged that he had a “personal relationship” with Sussmann, as they had previously “both worked in the criminal division together at the Department of Justice.” Baker was also involved in the Carter Page FISA application process and read part of the initial application. And, as general counsel, Baker advised senior FBI leaders on the legal aspects of key investigations and served as the liaison with the Department of Justice (DOJ). Baker is the subject of a criminal leak investigation being conducted by the DOJ. According to Baker’s testimony, the leak investigation remained active as of October 2018 and a Jan. 15 letter sent by Reps. Jordan and Meadows to U.S. Attorney John Durham, requesting a briefing, strongly suggests the DOJ investigation into Baker remains active.

Actress Taraji P. Henson, the Empire co-star of Jussie Smollett, expressed relief about the decision to drop all charges against the actor Tuesday in an alleged hate crime against himself.

 

“I’m happy that the truth has finally been set free, because I knew it all along,” Henson said of prosecutors’ decision in an interview with USA Today. “We’re all happy for him, and thank God the truth prevailed.”

FOX TV ‘Gratified’ Felony Charges Dropped Against Jussie Smollett

 

In a statement Tuesday 20th Century Fox announced that it was “gratified” that Empire star Jussie Smollett had all 16 felony counts related to making a false police report dropped.

 

“Jussie Smollett has always maintained his innocence and we are gratified on his behalf that all charges against him have been dismissed,” 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement released after the case was dropped against the actor, according to Fox News.

In Turkey's ongoing attempt to crush currency manipulators, yesterday we reported that in addition to launching a "probe" against JPMorgan, the biggest US bank, for daring to cut its TRY price target, as well as threatening unnamed "manipulators", on Monday Turkish authorities took a page of the Chinese currency manipulation playbook, when they made it virtually impossible for foreign investors to short the lira as they soaked up virtually all intermarket liquidity, potentially threatening to kill the economy.

 

As we reported yesterday, the overnight swap rate on Monday soared more than ten-fold over the prior two sessions to more than 300%, the highest spike on record going back to the nation’s 2001 financial crisis as offshore funds clamoring to close out long-lira positions failed to find counterparties and the cost of a lira short exploded.

 

Think Volkswagen short squeeze but for a currency, or FXwagen.

 

Well, FXwagen went turbo on Tuesday, when this unprecedented move continued as Turkish Lira swaps exploded again, more than doubling overnight, and hitting an insane 1338%.

 

Fund managers including Japan’s Daiwa SB Investments Ltd. said they are rethinking investments in the country.

 

“I’ve never seen a move like this in the 21 years I’ve been watching this market,” Julian Rimmer, a trader at Investec Bank told Bloomberg. “This amounts to sacrificing long-term pragmatism for a short-term political expedient. Such tactics will make many traders question the investability of the lira.”

 

“With the swap moves, I’m now forced to take an unusual strategy,” said Takeshi Yokouchi, an emerging-market fund manager at Daiwa SB who backtracked on a plan to add to his Turkish bond investments because of the constraints in trading. Instead, he’s going to rotate some of his lira holdings into longer-duration bonds or cash.

 

By engineering a situation whereby there isn’t enough lira liquidity for investors to move in and out easily, Turkish authorities have averted a currency slide before a March 31 vote that’ll determine who governs Turkey’s cities. That’s good for Erdogan, who’s already contending with a recession, soaring inflation and opposition parties trying to undermine him. But it comes at the cost inflicting huge pain on the investors he needs to sustain the economy that consistently needs to fund current-account deficits.

 

There was just one problem: whereas on Monday this "shock therapy" meant to force out the shorts did in fact work, sending the Lira soaring, and the USDTRY tumbling, the continuation of this painful squeeze no longer has a positive impact on the currency, where as of this point most of the shorts had already been stopped out. As a result, the USDTRY actually rose for the day, and was up to 5.4272, after hitting 5.3051 on Monday. However, despite the surge in overnight rates, the Lira has begun to slide back.

It also means that Turkey is doing its best to burn bridges with all foreign investors, both bulls and bears, which for a country that for the past decade has been entirely reliant on outside capital inflows, could spell a death sentence.

 

Meanwhile, unable to express their negative views on the economy via the currency - for now - Turkey bears have found a different way of betting on a Turkish economy implosion, namely Credit Default Swap, which soared to 454bps on Tuesday, a 40bps spike, and the highest since last summer's crisis.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday ordering federal agencies to take steps to protect the country from potential electromagnetic pulses.

What would happen after an EMP attack?

 

An EMP attack would result in catastrophic damage to America’s power grid. Specifically at the generation and substation levels. Power is transmitted at very high voltages to reduce energy loss. There is well over 80,000 miles of EHV transmission line in the US (voltages at or above 345KV). When power is generated at a the power plant, it is “stepped up” to EHV levels by step-up transformers. Similar transformers are used at the substation level to “step down” EHV voltage levels for distribution to cities and towns. Local transformers (including pole mounted transformers) are used to further step down voltages for commercial and home use.

 

Generation and substation transformers are extremely expensive. These are very large pieces of capital equipment that are purchased by your local utilities. These transformers are very large. They consist of an oil-filled, reinforced steel tank, a massive ferromagnetic steel core, and very large and heavy copper windings that are wound using heavy copper magnet wire. Each transformer is designed to meet a given utility’s unique specifications. Hundreds of engineering hours are required to design each unit, and hundreds of manufacturing hours are required to build and electrically test each unit. Current transformer lead-times are right around 26 weeks. After the transformer is built, it must be shipped to the utility. Smaller substation transformers are shipped as oversized loads on flatbed trucks, but most are shipped via rail car to an FOB destination. The shipping method is actually an important consideration during design. It is not uncommon for a new transformer to spend a month or more in transit.

 

If America’s power grid is struck by an EMP attack, electrical energy will be induced onto our EHV transmission lines, and these lines will carry the fault to the nearest substation where it will be introduced to “unhardened” substation transformers. These faults will be massive (think Carrington Event, 1859). All transformers are design to withstand nominal short circuit forces and lightning strikes, but an EMP attack has the potential to exceed nominal design parameters. In other words, an EMP attack will likely result in the widespread destruction of transformers on the power grid. While this is extremely bad, the after effects are more dire.

 

Generally speaking, America’s utilities do NOT generally maintain spares - it’s simply cost prohibitive. Substation transformers can cost anywhere from $400,000 to a few million dollars. Thus, there’s no back-up way to get the lights turned back on. The grid cannot be repaired without replacing the transformers, and the small number of transformer manufacturers already have lengthy lead-times. Such an event could result in unprecedented and lengthy power outages potentially lasting many months. Imagine a city, the size of Chicago, not having adequate access to power for many months.

 

The real damage done by an EMP attack will occur during the many months following the EMP attack …

We have a whole group of regulations in the services for training in combat arm. Most career-fields require re-qual every two years on service weapon i.e. rifle or pistol. His time as an USAF res officer as a Jag would have given him a view of military crime and suicides with both personal and service arms. As supervisor I had to clean-up after a few suicides in 20 years active duty. It does change your prospective on who and when people should be trusted with arms. Training is a must for safety and proper operation. Disipline is required at all times and those who don't respect life or property probably don't need to near arms until they prove trust is warranted. As for the current "red flag laws" it is end run around the constitution in which the gun grabbers will us one day to say "your crazy" in court just like the FISA abuse we are witnessing now. If we don't stop this soon then we will lose all for the cult wants a small group for food and organs and sex toys and the rest can get about dying asap…

They aren't going to get the Mueller report in April. "May" is what Q seems to be hinting at, though this could be a troll for something else. It would also be interesting if it eventually comes out that August was when Mueller finished his probe last year. Future proves past (the day the world learned the truth).
