Once upon a time, serious and well-meaning people believed communism to be the wave of the future. They thought that only scientific socialism could build just societies in which the arts and the intellect could flourish; that the Soviet Union was the place where the future existed today; and that the avuncular Josef Stalin was the only true opponent of fascism in all its capitalist and warmongering forms.

 

Once upon a time, the Central Intelligence Agency ran a world-wide covert action campaign to counter such nonsense in societies in which communism might take hold. Almost every CIA station had case officers dedicated to working with labor unions, intellectuals, youth and student organizations, journalists, veterans, women’s groups, and more. The Agency dealt directly with foreign representatives of these groups, but it also subsidized their activities indirectly by laundering funds through allied organizations based in the United States. In short, the Agency’s covert political action depended on the anti-communist zeal of private American citizens, only a few of whom knew that the overseas works of their ostensibly independent organizations were financed by the CIA until the campaign’s cover was disastrously blown in 1967.

 

British historian Hugh Wilford has just given us the best history of the covert political action campaign to date. Wilford is now associate professor of history at California State University (Long Beach), but before arriving there he spent years in pursuit of the documentation that he sensed had to exist in the organizational remains of the groups that the Agency had funded. His work brought him metaphorically to my door at the CIA History Staff, as the truth-in-reviewing code obliges me acknowledge. Full disclosure also bids me say that I wrote on the covert action campaign in a still-classified monograph published by CIA’s Center for the Study of Intelligence in 1999.

 

Where I had viewed the CIA’s campaign from the inside looking out, Wilford’s new book The Mighty Wurlitzer: How the CIA Played America does the job from the outside in. Wilford exploits contemporary public accounts, memoirs, and, most important, the remaining files of the various private groups involved. The Mighty Wurlitzer surpasses early attempts like Peter Coleman’s The Liberal Conspiracy (1989) and Frances Stonor Saunders’ Cultural Cold War (2000). [1] The former book had examined only one organization, the Congress for Cultural Freedom, and took a congratulatory tone that was disliked by some reviewers. The latter cast a wider net and surveyed a congeries of cultural, artistic, and intellectual groups, but its conspiracy-mongering style undermined its judgments.

I've been to Fisher Island years ago to fix some furniture back around '04. We had to park our truck and go through security to be searched. We were not allowed to bring our vehicle so when we finally got to the island we had to walk to our destination. When we finally found the place it was a set of huge condos. Knocking on the door, not knowing what to expect, an old lady comes to the door wearing some hippie looking madam outfit with a flowing scarf. I immediately noticed the amount of shelves on every wall of the condo. These shelves were filled with elaborate statues and figurines made of what looked to be a type of colored glass but resembled some kind of stone. I pointed out how beautiful they were and she said they were made out of Citrine. The place looked as beautiful as a room in the Smithsonian.

 

After formalities were made she brought us to the piece of furniture that needed to be fixed. She handed us a small bag and pointed to a foot stool. I opened the bag and it was a wheel connected to a dowel. I flipped over the foot stool and put the dowel in the leg which took about 5 seconds at the most. I turn around and a 70 something year old man comes swankering in the doorway like he was a former rock star and gently pushes the woman on the bed falling on top of her. My partner and I just looked at each other and got the picture of what Fisher Island was all about. This woman was swooning and squealing and wrapping her legs around this old guy. It was the cringiest thing I've ever witnessed. The door was wide open so we decided to take off. When we headed for the door we could hear her saying "is it done?" We said yep and decided to get out of there. That whole place just reminded me of a rich folks orgy/nursing home. We had to wait for the ferry and the whole time we were nervous about being snatched up. It just appeared to be an island of untouchable elites just by the creepy vibe we got. Why would someone have to come 600 miles to put a wheel on the leg of a footstool?

Blagojevich signed the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Act with an effective date of June 27, 2003. However, before he could sign the act, a bill had to be passed by the Illinois House and Senate. As discussed fully in Curtain Time Part II, Obama was the inside guy in the senate who pushed through the legislation that resulted in the Act.

 

Obama was appointed chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. The minute the bill was introduced, it was referred to his committee for review. The sponsors of the bill also served on this committee with Obama. Within a month, Chairman Obama sent word to the full senate that the legislation should be passed.

 

On May 31, 2003, Senate Bill 1332 passed and specified that the β€œBoard shall be appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate." The legislation reduced the number of members from 15 to 9, paving the way for the appointment of a five-bloc majority to rig the votes.

 

The corrupt members appointed included three doctors who contributed to Obama. Michel Malek gave Obama $10,000 on June 30, 2003 and donated $25,000 to Blagojevich on July 25, 2003. Malek also gave Obama another $500 in September 2003.

 

Fortunee Massuda donated $25,000 to Blagojevich on July 25, 2003, and gave a total of $2,000 to Obama on different dates. After he was appointed, Dr Imad Almanaseer contributed a total of $3,000 to Obama. Almanaseer did not give money to Blagojevich.

 

When the first pay-to-play scheme was put in play, and the application for approval of a new hospital was submitted, the Department of Human Services, along with four other Illinois agencies, sent recommendations that the project should be approved even though experts said the hospital was not needed."

Apparently, Kristol’s new definition of Democrat also means being a β€œprincipled conservative” because on the heels of his curious tweet, Kristol announced an eventβ€”in partnership with a group called Stand Up Republic, which has interesting ties to the leftβ€”that purports to focus on β€œreviving principled conservatism in the United States.”

 

Is whiplash the hallmark of NeverTrump? What goes on here? Turns out, it’s pretty simple. Kristol’s a Democrat. Under the old definition, which has everything to do with who’s funding the agenda.

 

It’s no secret Kristol has been moving left since Donald Trump declared his candidacy for, and later won, the 2016 presidential campaign. But Kristol’s open admission that he’s jumped partiesβ€”and even that, by some standards, he’s actually a liberalβ€” was a welcome, if not wholly unexpected, development.

 

Perhaps it shouldn’t have been. Kristol, currently editor-at-large of the decidedly anti-Trump media outlet The Bulwark, has been funded from the start of his rebellion by big left-of-center donors like Pierre Omidyar and the Hewlett Foundation.

 

As of 2018, he’s also been backed by a nonprofit connected to a massive network of left-wing groups funding the anti-Trump β€œResistance.” That network of β€œdark money” is run by a powerful for-profit company called Arabella Advisorsβ€”and its influence is far-reaching and virtually unreported by the mainstream media.

 

Specifically, Kristol’s Bulwark website is run by the 501(c)(3) Defending Democracy Together Institute (DDTI), the sister organization of his 501(c)(4) Defending Democracy Together (DDT), which runs the Never Trump attack group Republicans for the Rule of Law. The Hopewell Fund, which is one of the four main nonprofits operating in Arabella’s shadowy network, forked out $75,000 to DDT in 2018.

 

Sarah Longwell, executive director of DDT and publisher of The Bulwark, says Kristol’s groups receive funds β€œfrom all sorts of people who care about democracy and the rule of law,” but she declines to name any individual donors or any conservative foundations (which must disclose their grants).

 

The foundations that send monies through the Hopewell Fund’s hands read like a Who’s Who of left-wing money: The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, which heavily funds Planned Parenthood and groups that push for population control; the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, a massive pass-through that sends tech titans’ cash to activists at places like the American Civil Liberties Union and the Tides Foundation; and the Democracy Fund, the philanthropy of eBay founder Omidyar, which has given to Common Cause Education Fund and the Campaign Legal Center, both liberal stalwarts. In fact, Democracy Fund shows up again in this story: they gave DDT $1.6 million in 2018.

 

Capital Research Center has been investigating the Arabella network for more than a year, reporting for example that between 2013 and 2018, the network’s nonprofits spent nearly $1.9 billion and raised over $2.4 billion.

 

As more information comes to light, it becomes clearer that the line between philanthropy and political advocacy at Arabella is so blurry that it’s nearly indistinguishable. Most of the projects hosted by the four nonprofitsβ€”which along with Hopewell include the New Venture Fund, Sixteen Thirty Fund, and Windward Fundβ€”advocate for a solidly left-wing agenda on issues like President Trump’s judicial nominees (including Brett Kavanaugh), abortion on demand, net neutrality, and more. They almost uniformly promote the expansion of government.

 

Kristol hasn’t been much of a Republican or conservative for years. He’s attacked the Republican in the Oval Office as viciously and obsessively as any Democrat, and taken money from axe-grinding groups that prefer the Democrats’ increasingly radical agenda.

 

In short, Kristol announcing his affinity for the Democratic Party should be the least surprising thing in the world.

The group behind the stunt is called P.U.T.I.N, an acronym for Pigeons United To Interfere Now, and according to their peculiar release sent out late Tuesday evening, they are anonymous underground radicals and their pigeons are trained. The group’s founder, Coo Hand Luke, says that the project came at the end of months of β€œexhaustive research, logistical hurdles and pigeon care taking,” adding that the release date was coordinated to serve as a sign of loyal support for President Trump.

 

The release says that the group was inspired by a Cold War-era CIA operation called β€œTacana,” during which the intelligence agency explored using pigeons fitted with tiny cameras to spy on Soviet Union sites. Obama is standing next to two fellow students from Occidental: Mark Anderson (class of 1980) and Romeo Garcia (class of 1980) at a festival in Pasadena’s Central Park in the spring of 1980.

 

The photo was taken by Obama’s friend at Occidental, Eric Moore (class of 1983).

 

Moore is quoted in The Occidental Weekly on January 11, 1980 as being opposed to America’s military:
