Marine general orders removal of Confederate items at bases

 

WASHINGTON (AP) β€” All Confederate flags, bumper stickers and similar items must be removed from Marine Corps bases, according to a new directive from the commandant.

 

Marine Gen. David Berger has told his commanders to begin implementing the order or develop plans to do so by Saturday.

 

The order was included in a sweeping memo Berger sent out last week that calls for administrative changes and other reviews. They range from efforts to recruit additional women for combat jobs, restrictions on Marines convicted of domestic violence and the possible expansion of maternity leave and guidelines for pregnant service members.

 

Berger's memo provides no details on the Confederate order, but simply directs β€œthe removal of all Confederate-related paraphernalia from Marine Corps installations.” But the plan would cover flags, signs and other Confederate symbols.

 

Capt. Eric Flanagan, a Marine Corps spokesman, said the order was not generated by any one incident, and instead stemmed from a broader concern about the issue.

 

Members of the military have been involved in racist incidents in the past, including participation in online forums about white supremacy. Late last year, two members of the Army National Guard were kicked out of the service after it became known that they were members of a religious group with white supremacist ties.

 

The decision comes as more states and local governments β€” including Virginia β€” move to sanction the removal of Confederate monuments in public places. The issue gained wide public attention after a 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned violent and resulted in the death of a woman.

 

Berger's memo calls for Marine Lt. Gen. Charles Chiarotti to develop a plan to put the order into effect. There is no specific date set for the removal of the items, but it's expected to take effect in coming weeks.

The TV juggernaut was at the Forum arena Saturday in L.A. as part of her 2020 Vision speaking tour, and the topic of discussion on the monitor behind her was "Wellness: All things in balance." Welp, it looks like balance worked against her, 'cause she lost hers.

 

She was talking about her definition of wellness, which included balance. She says, "Wellness to me means all things in balance. And balance doesn't mean all things are equal or at peace at all times." Oprah then went down hard, but seemed okay. She said, "Wrong shoes!"

 

Video of the immediate aftermath was also posted on social media, and yeah … it looks like the shoes she was wearing (heels, maybe) were responsible for the collapse. You know what is funny about this? Either Q is real and there is hope this administration is actually doing something behind the scenes or Q is not real and Trump is just another over promise under deliver politician. What they did not count on was someone actually using Section 10.2 it to it's full definition. Since most of the elected POTUS' have been controlled stooges after Lincoln, it became something that was never going to be utitilzed as they were already bought and paid for. The former Hollywood producer was admitted late on Monday to a Bellevue Hospital unit for inmates, hours after a Manhattan jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raping former aspiring actress Jessica Mann in 2013.

 

His conviction was a milestone for the #MeToo movement, which inspired women to accuse hundreds of powerful men of sexual misconduct. He is due to be sentenced on March 11.

 

Weinstein's spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, said he spent about an hour and a half with him at the hospital on Friday reflecting on the case and what the future holds for Weinstein, who faces up to 29 years in prison. His lawyers plan to appeal the verdict. He is also charged with sexual assault in Los Angeles.

 

"It's scaring him," Engelmayer said in an interview. "I think he's melancholy. He's very, very low right now."

 

He described a bare room with a bed, a stainless steel toilet with no seat and large windows. Guards are stationed outside the door.

 

Weinstein is allowed to make limited phone calls from a common area, the former producer's spokesman said.

 

"He doesn't like being left alone," Engelmayer said. "When no one's there, he said he's just staring at the four walls. He can go stir crazy just staring at the emptiness."

 

Engelmayer's description contrasted with defense lawyer Arthur Aidala's portrayal of his 67-year-old client after he visited him at the hospital on Tuesday.

 

Aidala said Weinstein appeared "upbeat" and "in pretty good spirits."

 

Weinstein had been en route to New York City's Rikers Island jail complex when he was diverted to Bellevue. Media reports said he suffered chest pain or heart palpitations.

 

Engelmayer said Weinstein suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure.

If you wanted to keep the population, especially the brainwashed, from panicking and not destroying everything around them, would you have public arrests (aka Cnn /Stone) of THEIR heroes? The owners of a Mexican restaurant in Catalina are fending off social media attacks after appearing in the VIP area at Donald Trump's Phoenix campaign rally last week.

 

A member of the Grupo de Palfeis Facebook group on Wednesday posted a screengrab image from the Feb. 19 rally that showed Sammy's Mexican Grill owner Betty Rivas standing behind Trump, donning a red cowboy hat emblazoned with "Latinos Love Trump."

 

That post on Grupo de Palfeis, which is a marketplace where its 109,000 members can advertise goods and services, attracted more than 230 comments β€” pretty much all of them negative.

 

The conversation then moved to Sammy's restaurant's social media including its Yelp and Google reviews.

 

β€œVery ugly stuff. They are saying nasty stuff about the restaurant," owner Jorge Rivas said Friday, a day after he and his wife posted a video on Facebook defending their rights as "naturalized American citizens" to vote, support and meet whomever they please.

 

"Just because we are Latinos, it doesn't mean that we have to feel like every other Latino in this country," Rivas said in the video. "We are individuals and we feel that we have the constitutional right to meet and support whoever we want."

 

This is the second time that the couple and their restaurant at 16502 N. Oracle Road have been the target of Tucsonans opposed to Trump largely because of his immigration policies. In 2016, the couple was on the receiving end of nasty phone calls and minor vandalism to their far northwest valley restaurant after Betty Rivas was invited on stage with Trump during his March 2016 campaign rally at Tucson Arena.

 

Jorge Rivas said they have gotten a few nasty phone calls this time, but no one has caused any damage to the restaurant, which they opened in 1996, or made threats of violence.

 

Rivas said that the online attacks have had little to no impact on his business, which draws the bulk of its customers from Catalina, SaddleBrooke and the far end of Oro Valley.

 

"People know us quite well in this area. I feel more than anything they know who we are. We are not mean, bad or racist people," said Rivas, the father of three. "They know what they see posted online is a bunch of crap."

 

Rivas said the people posting negative comments about Sammy's β€œare just wasting their time. They are not going to achieve their goal of running us out of business.”

Taking into account how deep pockets didn't adequately help billionaire Tom Steyer, who dropped from the race Saturday evening, Yang made the case that Bloomberg's "digital war room" is what sets the former New York City mayor apart from the rest.

David Axelrod, who worked as a chief strategist for former President Barack Obama's two presidential campaigns, said Yang's story confirmed what he has heard about Bloomberg. "What they are saying tonight is that their analytics suggest that the project of stopping Bernie Sanders or slowing him down would be better served by him being in for this round than out," Axelrod said. The plan, or the role for anons following the Q posts was according to my understanding to be informed enough to make proper choices from a significantly broader perspective.

 

I managed to achieve more than I could ever imagine in the past years, but in some or even most respects I have a tremendous way to go still.

 

I hope that I one day will have everything settled, but at the moment, it seems as if things aren't really settled for most people, and that I can use my broad perspective to at least not encumber people with a narrow perspective.
