BAKING FROM THE INDEX

 

Baking from the index -

Have the index link bookmarked just in case.

  • Create the 'new thread' in the top area of the index. You don't need to click 'create new thread' in index, the windows are always there.

 

  • Create your thread as normal, with title, image and the first post of the dough.

 

  • Post it.

 

  • Take a note of one of your thread title words.

 

  • Once posted, rather than have to scroll to find your new thread / see if it's appeared yet, just CtrlF a word from your title. If your thread has posted you'll see quickly. Saves a lot of time.

 

  • Then from the thread listing in the index, simply click 'reply' and you'll be directed to the thread where you can enter the rest of the dough.

How do you deal with a laggy board when baking?

How do you get the timing right?

 

  • Bake as early as you can. Starting baking at 630 posts in bad lag is a good move and should give you plenty of time.

Better to have a fresh bread up earlier rather than after the present one finishes.

Yesterday I just started one and did not say anything.

 

fyi for all-most of the time when baker says handoff required I will just start a bun.

No harm in just ditching it if not needed

and this is also a good way for any potential baker to start the process if they are new and want to bake.

So it's usually always available if you shout out or ask for any reason.

I just need a bit more practice. Got a bit hung up on the "body too long business" and dagnabit forgot to have the GMT updated and used an older version. I keep a "war room section" in the notepad because I know it will end up a separate post. I actually included every section despite seeing aflb shit all over the bread. It was late, bread had been ghosted so I picked up notes and then kaboom, time to bake. Seems the shills dogpiled the tail end of the bread before I could get all the posts in so no fresh bread call was done. Oh well, there will always be another bread later

gotta ask ya bout something - looks like you grabbed an old dough to bake with last night (might have had it open along with current one). Can be hard to notice if you're new because all doughs sort of look the same. Espec with shilly doughshitters, gosh they were bad last night! Damn leafy.

 

Don't worry, it's all ok now. But suggest making sure the dough you're using is current one (which happened to be mine, which made it easier to see what was going on).

I saw your bake, congratulations. It was sweet.

Some pointers.

 

  • If you keep a section of war room for example, it might have changed from last time.

  • Best to use the freshest version of the dough, from the previous bread always. It will have all the up-to-date changes in it.

  • If you get 'body too long', take your time and split that section into 2 posts. Works just fine.

  • Bread shitters - you were unlucky - we're all having trouble with them (it) just now. Nothing we can do but try to be as fast as possible. Even then it sneaks in. Relax. As long as you've posted all the sections and the fresh dough, you're sweet.

I found out about it earlier today when I went back into the bread I baked to see how everything turned out. Ayefirmative. I started working up the new thread posts and saw leafy right away, just kept going. I remembered how one baker got spooked by the baker's union TOR shill and was not going to let anons down by doing a second bread. Last night kinda of a rush job, expected to be taking notes and have another baker show up. Nice thing about the UK breads is they don't contain as much in the headers. But ya know how it goes, "just a few more minutes" and oops, it's been hours and well, that bread had to get baked 'cause I wasn't going to let an ebake happen when I need the practice. Your New Thread Freezes When Posting

 

If this happens at [posting 100%], (it ALWAYS HAPPENS), open a catalog or index tab, refresh the page and look for your new thread. If it's not there, keep refreshing.

Threads can sometimes take up to a minute or 2 to post.

 

If Your thread freezes mid post (posting 64% for example), create it again. If you continue having posting issues, try using a lighter version of the general image.

 

In the end, don't worry. If there's not a new thread an e-baker will make one.

Every issue can be resolved, so take it easy if something goes wrong.

Archiving scrapers, news aggregators and scripts such as Baking Tools all rely on us formatting the thread numbers and notables batches correctly.

If they're formatted incorrectly the automated scripts these services use don't work.

 

Here's what you can do as a baker to ensure they're correct

When you first receive the dough -

  • Check the notables batch numbers are correctly listed

  • Check the Previous Notables batches that all threads are included

  • Check the thread title format

  • Check the thread number

Maybe the other bakers can give you advice on this as well.

On the index when you've posted a new thread, it shows there first, mostly much quicker than waiting for it to show in the catalog.

So yes, mostly I bake from the index for that reason. Can mean the difference of 30 - 180 secs difference. You can have the bake finished by the time it shows on the catalog.

 

Moldy breads is a tricky call. Mostly these days they're genuine double-bakes / e-bakes by bakers thinking we haven't got a thread, or when there's trouble getting a bake through and a few are trying.

Best to keep an eye on both threads and communicate with the baker to see what to do. If you find yourself in that situation other bakers will always help you. Don't worry about it, it'll always work out.

The index is a replica of the catalog. They both show the same threads. New threads just show up sooner on the index.

I bake from the index any time the catalog gets slower than 2-3 minutes to post the OP.

 

I also use the tor iwo jima link instead of the regular image if I see image server death after 500 on clearnet.

 

Less chance of losing a bake that way.. Almost lost one lat time I baked because I forgot, kek..

As baker you'll sometimes have to report something to the BO/BV team.

 

You could have made a mistake with the thread title and number

That's ok. Just report it and request that the BO/BV's rename it.

 

On your first post of the thread, beside the thread title, click on the triangle and 'report'. Type 'Requesting a rename to #2444. TY, baker'. A BV will rename soon and let you know in the thread.

 

Make a clear post about it as soon as you can in the thread -Incorrect Thread Number. This should be #2832

Somone could self dox

IF someone types in their email address, report the post for deletion as above.

Use the triangle on the actual post you're reporting.

It's good to tell anon not to do that any more, that it's not safe to share their info on here.

 

CP is posted

This is rare but it happens. Report and click 'GLOBAL REPORT'.

Put a red text message out the the board to report as well.

A Global Admin (one who watches and admins all 8kun boards), will then be alerted and will delete/ ban the poster/posters

  • Keep it together and go up into 5th gear.

  • Log it in the dough. Use a formatting line from a post below.

  • Look out for anons posting caps, videos or docs for the Q posts. They will.

  • Ready bake your new bake immediately.

  • Line up your anonbin / pastebin ready, immediately.

  • Put a call out for anons to call out notables if that'll help you.

  • Try to stay on the bottom edge of the thread and monitor for new Q posts.

 

The main thing is to get the Q posts logged as priority.

Got a question about Q's flashing tripcode. It isn't flashing on my end, so I have to rely on anons to let me know it's the real deal. Just wondering if anyone knows why. I had changed to a regular computer monitor and noticed it wasn't working, then switched back to the TV monitor I normally use. Still isn't working. For me, so far four total bakes, has been helping out the Britanons. Twice while helping with the digs on the UK boards I had to go over to General and grab a baker for new bread. Then one night a shill basically double dog dared me to bake myself. Hope that joker got fired. Brits happy, shill disciplinary review, no need to bug baker from General. Funny part is the UK was not my first bake, I grabbed a ghosted one on graveyard, did forget the tail end of the header, but anons were fine with a first bake from me since most remembered boatfag, no ebake needed. Last night was a "few more mintues then I'll go do (XXXX) then okay, honest, few more minutes do (YYYY) then uh oh, ghosted, grab some notes until baker shows. then uh oh, gotta bake this puppy, then try to crash out before sunrise.

I work some evenings and some days and sometimes both, when flakers call in or quit. Only been getting one day off a week, if that and finding it difficult to squeeze bakes in. What is a "chain of authorship"? A chain of authorship allows an individual to be able to prove their own capacity to be what they state over time, whether they are anonymous or not. The idea is to completely lock a board so only you have authorized access to it, just like Q does with their own self-validated locked board. This does a few important things:

 

  • NO comms outside of the 8kun platform, at all. Period. Zero off-site service accounts or providers needed.

  • NO contentious publishing authorities. The only authorization required comes directly from the 8kun platform owner, in order to get your board.

  • It allows you to use a secure tripcode to prove a chain of authorship rather than wasting raw evidence in a single-use scenario every time you want to bake.

  • It secures the validation transaction using a challenge-response method, making the issue of whether tripcodes are being moderated on /qr/ itself or not, irrelevant.

  • It allows you to keep a current record of bakes available, and secure that rรฉsumรฉ from being ripped off, because publicly claiming ownership of it requires your tripcode and board access.

  • It allows you to have a secured public place to authoritatively regenerate a new tripcode if your tripcode is guessed or otherwise compromised.

  • Conversely, If someone does manage to compromise your board, you still control your chain of authorship with your tripcode, allowing recovery/replacement of the board itself through the 8kun admins.

Have a great mouse

Treat yourself to a good mouse.

High quality, ergonomic mice are inexpensive these days. Rapoo and Jelly Comb have excellent ones, highly recommended.

Mice with scrolling wheels on top are great for baking (Rapoo and Jelly Comb have these)

 

Adjust Your Mouse Settings

As a baker you'll be scrolling like your mouse has never known.

Make it easy on yourself by adjusting your scrolling settings in Control Panel -Devices -> Mouse

With these settings, if you need to scroll FAST, you've got lightening speed.

It also makes it much, much easier on your finger joints.

 

  • In 'Roll the mouse wheel to scroll' -Select 'Multiple lines at a time'

  • In 'Choose how many lines to scroll each time' -Try setting this at '18' and adjust to suit

It's a challenge for me. I like the challenge I guess. I love being of service and helping this mission, especially since there aren't enough bakers. I like digging and posting news updates also. But when I bake I always feel like I've met a challenge that that intimidates/scares me. The adrenaline rush I get from baking is a definite motivator. I wear my hands out everyday and they were getting bad, cuz when I'm not abusing them at work I am glued to my mouse. I put tea tree oil, peppermint oil, cocunut oil. Ben gay for immediate relief. I eat diatomaceous earth here and there, all this shit makes my hands like magic. I don't understand it and am in awe of it everyday. My hands were getting bad. My mouse thumb was freezing up. You'll get mixed results in the big stream though, from different bakers.

 

This is my own opinion only, other bakers here may or may not take the same stance, but:

 

answering questions here != baking.

Q research isn't about feelings. Baking is not about feelings. you can not have any, just like the meme, when you bake. If you do, you tend not to last long. Because the shills have had as much practice at attacking bakers as some of the oldest bakers on /qr/.

 

And I'm not the oldest one, by a long shot.

 

I don't want to see any baker turned away, especially if they swore an oath to the Constitution. But it is what it is, homey.. We're at the boss level. WE can help as much as we can and be mindful of the noobsโ€ฆ But at the end of the day there's fucking sharks in the big stream.

Tendonitis and eyestrain can be intense for bakers.

 

i bake in compression gloves and sleeves, both sides. Often plus braces and sometimes electrical tape for base of hand (where joins the wrist). one reason why it takes time for me to 'fire up the kitchen' but helps a lot. 32" monitor enormously helpful for eyestrain. still getting it but at least 50% better.

 

Ben Gay type med relief good too.

Also athletic tape and sometimes shoulder support in some form.

Last - wrapping fingers in the type of tape they used for taping broken toes together, provides excellent support espec along with compression gloves. Or use first aid tape just on TOP of fingers.

 

When having severe problems with mouse (index) finger, switched the right hand mouse to left handed and used middle finger instead of index finger for about 3 weeks to let mouse finger rest. Very helpful.

Good observations. My 2cents:

 

Make a distinction between practice bakers and live bakers.

 

Practice bakers deserve - and generally get - all the help, support & encouragement bakers can give them. Like babies taking first steps. Continues into live baking too. But there's a difference.

 

Once new bakers go live, the emphasis necessarily switches: it's no longer about the baker but about the board (keeping it clean/tidy, ready for Q, ready for anons to post). Feedback during live bakes is highly impersonal (or ought to be); it's really not about the baker but the board.

 

If new bakers go live prematurely (and have gaps in basic skills) it's inevitable that they're gonna get called out by someone - anons, bakers, or shills. As you say.

 

Bakers who jump in real fast may think that, once they are baker, they are "in charge." Technically yes. But at the start, there's lots they just don't know, need to learn to ask q's and to listen while they're gaining experience.

 

Sooner or later, all bakers seem to wind up having some kind of really tough experience. The "make it or break it" kind. Those who started baking coz they're talented and it's exciting (which it is) don't always make it thru. Those who so can make it thru just about anything.

I'm thinking there's two things this can describe. First is baker surgically but dispassionately targeting attacker, second is baker emotionally reacting to attacker (or imagined attackers).

 

First is ok bc although the blows hurt, baker's still in control - not flailing. Sees attack as impersonal (in that bakers always get attacked, it's the kitchen they are attacking, not you personally). Responds with his own attack - ruthlessly. Second is a problem because attacker hurts in a way that really knocks socks completely off, baker either really knocked down (loses confidence) or continues to bake but with a huge chip-on-shoulder (coz now everyone on the board = potential enemy).

 

Those in first gp usually already had an experience like that and survived. But everyone has to have a first time - and for some, it will happen here.

My security keeps saying that the Hardware virtualization is turned off and too turn it on.

This has been happening for over 4 weeks.

Tried F10 at the beginning but it behaves strangely/couldn't get to the BIOS,

which I am very familiar with, to turn it on in the system security section.

The pages are still loading strangely and my phone keeps turning off the internet security also.

Any ideas, please help.
