US reveals plan for nuclear power plant on the moon that could power lunar base

 

 

 

 

The DoE on Friday put out a request online for ideas from the private sector on how to build such a contraption.

 

Dubbed a fission surface power system, the station could help man survive harsh environments on the Moon, Mars and beyond.

 

"Small nuclear reactors can provide the power capability necessary for space exploration missions of interest to the Federal government," the DoE wrote in the notice published Friday.

 

Nasa has plans to put astronauts on the Moon in 2024 – the first manned mission to the lunar surface in almost five decades.

 

The space agency has said it wants to set up a permanent base on Earth's rocky neighbour in 2028. The base will help launch future missions to Mars.

 

Questions remain over what will power the base. Nasa could use solar panels, a nuclear reactor, or something else entirely.

 

It seems the space agency, working with the The Idaho National Laboratory and Department of Energy, is at least exploring the nuclear option.

 

According to the notice published to the DoE's website, officials are looking for ideas on how to build a mostly autonomous lunar power station.

 

It should work for 10 years at full power and boast a modular design that allows power units to connect together like Lego bricks.

 

Would-be designers are asked to whip something up that can survive the surface of Mars without modification.

Request, coupled with retirement of case's judge and transfer of war court's director, will likely cause January 2021 trial to be postponed

 

The joint trial of five men charged in the 9/11 attacks may be postponed because a new defence attorney in the case has requested a 30-month extension to prepare.

 

David Bruck, the new lead attorney for Ramzi bin al-Shibh, one of the five men charged in the 9/11 case, estimated in a legal filing on Wednesday that he would need two-and-a-half years to get caught up on the proceedings.

 

"The following estimate of the work before me reflects, 'prevailing professional norms at the time of [this] trial', as required by well-established Supreme Court precedent," Bruck wrote, breaking down the reasons for the hours needed to properly prepare for the case.

 

Bruck, who officially began working on the case on 1 July, said it would take hundreds of hours to read the 33,000 pages of hearing transcripts alone, and noted that the coronavirus pandemic was likely to postpone much of the work needed to be done.

 

For instance, Bruck has not yet been able to meet with his client, as regular travel to the prison camp has been barred by Covid-19 restrictions.

2 Georgia men arrested in Alabama prostitution sting

The Tuscaloosa News reports that 25-year-old Isaiah Rashaud Williams and 26-year-old Demetrius Lamonallen Wright, both of Cairo, Georgia, were arrested Friday in Tuscaloosa.

 

Williams is charged with two counts of drug possession and one felony count of promoting prostitution. He remains jailed with bail set at $30,000.

 

Wright is charged with one count each of unlawful drug possession and felony promoting prostitution. He remains jailed with bail set at $20,000.

The groundwork for the Gay hepatitis experiment began in 1973 when the Gay Men's Health Project in Manhattan provided blood samples for hepatitis B testing at the New York City Blood Center. The results were that one out of every two Gay blood samples was positive for hepatitis B. By contrast, only 5% of the blood samples from straights were positive. Half the Gay population was infected with the hepatitis B virus according to New York health clinics. Epidemiologists then determined that homosexual men were a potential public health menace not only to themselves, but to the larger public as well.

 

In the 1970’s the burgeoning Gay communities wanted to show that they were good citizens, deserving all the right and privileges of American citizenship. Gays volunteered for blood drives, and were willing to help test this new experimental vaccine, which offered the hope of eradicating hepatitis B. Even in Salt Lake City, Gay blood drives were regularly promoted as a civic duty.

 

After much debate, Dr. Wolf Szmuness decided that young promiscuous Gay men would be the best group to test the vaccine. He gained the confidence of Gay professionals by adding homosexual physicians and activists to his staff.

 

In November 1978 a bloodmobile began canvassing Greenwich Village, in NYC, looking for homosexual volunteers. They flocked to him. Dr. Szmuness’ experiment continued until October 1979. Over ten thousand men signed up and donated blood samples for his upcoming experiment with one thousand men from Manhattan being injected with the vaccine, some with a suspected contaminated batch.

 

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, were all involved in the study, as well as big pharmaceutical companies, such as Merck, Sharp & Dohme Inc., and Abbott Laboratories. Merck Laboratories was given the governmental contract to primarily manufacture the experimental Hepatitis-B vaccine. During the course of experiment, Dr. Szmuness voiced his concern about possible vaccine contamination. He even suspected thatone vaccine batch made by the National Institutes of Health was contaminated.

 

In January 1979, only two months after Dr. Wolf Szmuness began his hepatitis experiment, purple skin lesions began to appear on the bodies of healthy young white Gay men in NYC. Doctors were not sure exactly what was wrong with these men. During the next thirty months, Manhattan physicians encountered dozens of cases of a new disease characterized by immunodeficiency, Kaposi's sarcoma, and a rapidly fatal lung disease, known as Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Democratic Socialism Doesn’t Work Any Better Than Totalitarian Socialism

When I write about socialism, I often point out that there’s a difference between how economists define it (government ownership, central planning, and price controls) and how normal people define it (lots of taxes, redistribution, and intervention). These definitions are blurry, of course, which is why I created a β€œsocialism slide” to show how countries oftentimes are an odd mix of markets and government.

 

one thing that isn’t blurry is the evidence on what works. Simply stated, there is less prosperity in nations with big government compared to nations with small government. And it doesn’t matter whether socialism is the result of democracy or tyranny. Kristian Niemietz is with the Institute of Economic Affairs in London. He explained for CapX that mixing democracy with socialism doesn’t fix anything.

 

Mention the economic failures of the former Eastern Bloc countries, or Maoist China, or North Vietnam, or today, of Cuba or Venezuela or North Korea, and the answer will invariably be: β€œBut that was a dictatorship! That’s got nothing to do with me, I’m a democratic socialist!” β€¦β€œ[S]ocialism means β€˜economic democracy’… But the…economic failures of socialism never had anything to do with a lack of democracy. Democratisation improves many things, and is desirable for many reasons. But it does not, in and of itself, make countries richer. …The empirical literature on this subject finds no relationship either way between economic development, and the system of government. …If socialists want to make the case that democracy was the magic missing ingredient… How exactly would democracy have closed the economic gap between East and West Germany, or North and South Korea, or Cuba and Puerto Rico, or Maoist China and Taiwan, or the People’s Republic of Angola and Botswana, or Venezuela and Chile?

 

History counsels us to consider the first adjective in β€œdemocratic socialist” with some skepticism. …the socialism that reduced the United Kingdom from world power to intermittently pre-industrial backwater in the post-war era was thoroughly democratic. …In the United States, we use the word β€œdemocratic” as though it were a synonym for β€œdecent” or β€œaccountable,” but 51 percent of the people can wreck a country just as easily and as thoroughly as 10 percent of them. …The problems of socialism are problems of socialism β€” problems related to the absence of markets, innovation, and free enterprise… Socialism and authoritarianism often go hand in hand (almost always, in fact), but socialism on its own, even when it is the result of democratic elections and genuinely democratic processes, is a bottomless well of misery. …rights β€” property rights and the right to trade prominent among them β€” also find themselves on the wrong side of majorities, constantly and predictably. But they are…necessary for a thriving and prosperous society. Socialism destroys societies by gutting or diminishing those rights. Doing so with the blessing of 50 percent plus one of the population does not make that any less immoral or any less corrosive. Thankfully, Margaret Thatcher saved the United Kingdom from socialism.

 

But other nations haven’t been so lucky. Democratically elected governments adopted socialism in Greece and Argentina, but neither country found a savior to restore economic liberty (or maybe voters didn’t want to reverse the failed policies). What about the United States? Will we vote ourselves into socialism?

 

Given the wretched track records of Wilson, Hoover, FDR, Nixon, Obama, etc, I’m tempted to say that we’ve been doing that for more than 100 years. But I don’t want to be unduly pessimistic. America hasn’t slid too far down the socialism slide. Indeed, we’re actually ranked #6 in the world for economic liberty. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that there are lots of proposals for additional bad policy and plenty of politicians clamoring to move in the wrong direction. Spanish court hears testimony on whether Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was spied on

 

Spain's National Court is due to hear testimony on Monday in an investigation into whether a Spanish company was hired to spy on Julian Assange during the seven years the WikiLeaks founder spent in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London.

 

The court is investigating whether David Morales, a Spaniard, and his Undercover Global SL security agency invaded the privacy of Assange and his visitors at the embassy by secretly recording their meetings.

 

The intelligence that Morales' company collected is suspected of being handed over to third parties, according to court papers.

Among those set to face the court's questions Monday were prominent Spanish lawyer Baltasar Garzn, who is part of Assange's legal team; former Ecuadorean consul in London Fidel Narvez; and Stella Morris, a legal adviser and Assange's partner, who revealed earlier this year that she had two children with him while he lived in the embassy. Staff of the Spanish security company are due to testify on Tuesday.

Assange, whose lawyers filed a complaint at the court to trigger the investigation, is in a British prison after being removed from the embassy last year. He is fighting extradition to the United States, where he faces espionage charges over the activities of WikiLeaks.

 

The court is conducting an investigation, begun last year, before deciding whether there is evidence of wrongdoing that warrants a trial.

Undercover Global, also known as UC Global, was hired by Ecuador's government to provide security at the Ecuadorean embassy in London between 2015 and 2018. Its main task was to secure the property's perimeter, including the deployment of security staff, due to Assange's presence inside, court papers say.

 

According to the National Court summons seen by The Associated Press, the preliminary investigation has raised suspicions that, under the cover of his security work, Morales used bugging devices and video equipment to record Assange's meetings with visitors.

 

They included his lawyers, politicians, journalists, medical staff, Ecuadorean diplomats, the former head of Ecuador's National Intelligence Service, Rommy Vallejo, and longtime Republican congressman for California Dana Rohrabacher.

US Military Flies Record Number of Planes Near China’s Coast in July

 

The increased flights come as the US escalates military presence in the South China Sea

 

As part of Washington’s increased military presence in Indo-Pacific, the month of July has seen a record number of aerial surveillance flights by US military aircraft in the South China Sea and near China’s coast. A Beijing-based think tank counted over 50 sorties by US military aircraft in the region in the first three weeks of July.

 

β€œAt the moment the US military is sending three to five reconnaissance aircraft each day to the South China Sea,” the South China Sea Strategic Situation Probing Initiative (SCSPI) said. While July saw record numbers, the increased flights started earlier this year with β€œmuch higher frequency, closer distance and more variety of missions,” SCSPI said.

 

The closest flight to China’s coast happened in May, when a US Navy plane almost flew within the 12 nautical mile zone of China’s Hainan Island. SCSPI statistics show that flights by US planes within 50 to 60 nautical miles of the Chinese Mainland were β€œfrequent.”

 

With US-China relations rapidly deteriorating in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the South China Sea has seen massive US military exercises. Twice this month, two aircraft carrier strike groups led drills in the contested waters. The Trump administration also formally rejected most of Beijing’s claims to the South China Sea, ratcheting up tensions even more.

 

In 2001, a US reconnaissance plane collided with a Chinese military aircraft 59 nautical miles off the coast of Hainan Island. The collision killed the Chinese pilot and forced the US plane to land on Hainan. The ramping up of US flights in the region increases the risk of accidents like the 2001 incident, and souring US-China relations makes solving future incidents diplomatically less likely.

β€œJust wondering [if] anybody [got] an email from Tricare saying since you are a COVID survivor, please donate your plasma.?? I have NOT been tested,” wrote a beneficiary on Facebook. β€œJust remember all those people inputting data are human and make mistakes.”

 

The mass email went to every beneficiary located near a collection point.

Soros Pours Record $50 Million Into 2020 Election

 

Liberal billionaire spends $30 million more than in 2016 with months left to go before the elections

 

Liberal billionaire George Soros has flooded Democratic PACs and campaigns with $50 million this election cycle, shattering his personal record by tens of millions with four months to go before the elections.

 

Soros ramped up his political spending this cycle through the Democracy PAC, which he created last year to pump large sums into the coffers of other left-wing groups. New filings to the Federal Election Commission show the PAC doled out nearly $17 million last quarter, bringing its total cash disbursements this cycle to $48 million. Soros gave another $4 million directly to Democratic campaigns and committees without first depositing the money into his PAC. The $52 million cash influx is more than double Soros's previous high of $22 million, which came during the last presidential election.

 

Democratic candidates benefiting from Soros's cash have railed against the influence of money in politics. Joe Biden's government reform plan includes a promise to "reduce the corrupting influence of money in politics." The presidential candidate's website says, "We could improve our politics overnight if we flushed big money from the system and had public financing of our elections…. Democracy works best when a big bank account or a large donor list are not prerequisites for office."

 

Such rhetoric from Soros-backed candidates has drawn criticism from the right. "While Democrats across the country sanctimoniously rail against the influence of dark money in politics, their party’s largest donors are bankrolling a massive web of liberal organizations to get them elected," one GOP operative told the Washington Free Beacon earlier this month. "George Soros's unprecedented spending further highlights just how dependent Democrats are on contributions from billionaires, despite their hypocritical rhetoric."

 

Soros is one of several Democratic megadonors who opened their checkbooks last month to provide large sums to outfits backing Biden and hammering Republicans. The Biden Victory Fund in particular has benefited from a windfall of cash. It pulled in a whopping $83 million thanks to the Democratic Party's wealthiest donors, including Soros, who donated $500,000.

 

The liberal billionaire is taking steps to obscure his election spending this cycle. In the past, he made donations to groups directly in his own name. This cycle, he has operated primarily by transferring tens of millions from the Fund for Policy Reform, a $750 million nonprofit in his sprawling Open Society Foundation network, into Democracy PAC. β€œHighly Confidential Information contains nude, partially-nude, or otherwise sexualized images, videos, or other depictions of individuals,” the court papers state.

 

Maxwell’s attorneys and prosecutors had been working together to determine what discovery materials should be made public β€” and only disagreed on two details, according to the filing. One point they couldn’t agree on is whether Maxwell’s defense attorneys should be allowed to disclose the identities of victims mentioned in the discovery material who have already spoken on the record or to the media.

 

β€œThe government’s proposed restriction is therefore β€˜broader than necessary’ to protect the privacy interests of these individuals who have already chosen to self-identify, and will hinder the defense’s ability to conduct further factual investigation, prepare witnesses for trial, and advocate on Ms. Maxwell’s behalf,” her attorneys wrote.

 

A judge last week ruled that a slew of other documents that Maxwell was trying to keep hidden should be made public within a week.

 

Judge Loretta Preska said that 80 documents β€” which will run to hundreds of pages β€” should shed light on Jeffrey Epstein, who died before he could face trial on charges that he provided powerful men with underaged girls for sex.

The documents will also include communications between Maxwell and Epstein from January 2015 when Virginia Roberts made explosive allegations about them in court papers. In the papers Roberts claimed she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew three times when she was just 17 at Epstein’s command.

Man Admits Leaving Profanity-Filled Message, Threatening To Shoot GOP Congressman

 

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A Rochester, Ill., man, Randall E. Tarr, today entered a plea of guilty to making a threat against U.S. Congressman Rodney Davis. Tarr, 65, of the 200 block of E. Mill St., Rochester, Ill., entered his plea by video conference before U.S. Magistrate Judge Tom Schanzle-Haskins in Springfield. Sentencing for Tarr has been scheduled on Nov. 20, 2020, before U.S. District Judge Sue E. Myerscough.

 

At today’s hearing, Tarr admitted that on the morning of Nov. 25, 2019, he called the Decatur, Ill., office of Congressman Davis and left a profanity-filled voicemail message in which he threatened to shoot the congressman.

 

Tarr was reportedly upset with Davis for β€œbacking the Russians over our own intelligence” and saying, β€œI’m a sharpshooter. I could, I’d like to shoot your (expletive) head off.”

 

According to court documents, the voicemail message was forwarded to U.S. Capitol Police, in Washington, D.C. Through caller ID, police identified Tarr as the alleged caller and U.S. Capitol Police contacted the Rochester Police Department to ask officers to make contact with Tarr. Rochester police officers made initial contact with Tarr on Nov. 25, at his residence, and FBI special agents subsequently interviewed Tarr.

 

β€œI said I had been a sharpshooter in the Army. I didn’t realize I said anything about shooting him. I might have. I don’t even own a weapon,” Tarr said. β€œI wish I could just take it all back and just say he’s a lousy (expletive) for backing the Russian theory.”

 

β€œI screwed up,” Tarr said. β€œI don’t even have a weapon to do it, is the silliest thing.”

 

β€œI am extremely grateful for the work our men and women in law enforcement and the criminal justice system do every day to keep us all safe, including me and my family” Davis said in a statement. β€œAfter the attempted mass shooting on the baseball field three years ago, my staff and I take all threats seriously and report them to the U.S. Capitol Police. It is my hope that Mr. Tarr gets the counseling he needs.”

 

The offense, making a threat to a federal official, carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

I avoid multivitamins entirely although I do use some supplements with 3 or 4 ingredients like Calcium-magnesium-zinc

 

But more importantly, I take a particular supplement for a few months, then move on to something else. I examine myself for deficiencies and take supplements to improve the situation for long enough to take effect. By then I have had time to learn about other things, and focus on a different problem and solution.

 

I may well come back to certain things like Zinc and echinacea every autumn, or come back to selenium and iodine after a few years. But life works in cycles. Don't try to FLATTEN THE CURVE because that is a form of Black Magick.

Barkai was convicted in 2011 of being part of an international child pornography distribution ring and later sentenced to 18 months behind bars. However, the punishment was reduced on appeal to six months of community service, a nine-month suspended sentence and a NIS 20,000 ($5,690) fine.

 

For over a year up to his conviction, but after he had already been charged, Barkai continued to practice at a Haifa clinic of the Meuhedet HMO after a Health Ministry disciplinary committee ruled that he could continue to see children as long as a parent or nurse was in the room.

 

The disciplinary committee went on to rule that despite the charges, Barkai did not pose a danger to children as he had not been accused of physical acts against minors. As a result, it ruled that the pediatrician’s license should only be stripped for two years, and by July 2013 Barkai got his license back….

 

However, senior officials in the Health Ministry have come to Barkai’s defense. In 2014, the Health Ministry’s senior vice president of Administration and Human Resources, Dov Passat, submitted a letter to the disciplinary committee asserting that there should be nothing preventing Barkai from applying for tenders for positions as a pediatrician. The letter was submitted by Barkai as an official position of the Health Ministry to the Petah Tivka Magistrate’s Court, which ruled in 2018 that he be granted an exemption from the ban on employing convicted sex offenders as he does not pose a risk to the public, even if he works as a pediatrician.

 

In late 2018, a medical board voted unanimously to award Barkai a position as medical supervisor at the Health Ministry’s student health services department in the northern district. The Civil Service Commission subsequently interfered and blocked the appointment, stating in a 2019 hearing that β€œwhile the job at hand does not require clinical care for children, its core is oversight of student services and some of its assignments take place on school grounds and during the school day… Taking into account the nature of the offenses of which Dr. Barkai was convicted, [granting him this position] can greatly damage the image of the Civil Service Commission and the public’s confidence in its institutions.” "

Opposition Brews to Chinese Company's Purchase of Gold Mine in Canada as Ottawa Keeps Mum About Deal

Shandong, one of the biggest gold miners in the Asian country, will need a green light from the government in order to purchase TMAC, despite being the sole bidder and willing to save the debt-ridden Canadian company.

 

The cabinet of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau along with members of his party are refusing to comment on the possible purchase and the prospects of it being permitted, while Canada’s Innovation Ministry, responsible for examining major foreign investments for possible threats to "national security", said it would weigh in on the benefits of the deal to the country's economy before making any decisions.

 

Regardless of the government's position, the deal has prominent opponents. A former national security adviser to Prime Minister Trudeau and his predecessor Stephen Harper, Richard Fadden, told The Wall Street Journal that the deal should be blocked by the government because China is allegedly the country's "adversary".

 

"This purchase should not go forward. They are clearly adversaries, and I think we have to take that into account every time they seek to buy something", Fadden opined.

 

A foreign policy analyst at the Washington-based Centre for Strategic and International Studies think tank, Heather Conley, also suggested in an interview with the newspaper that despite not appearing suspicious, the deal could raise some issues in light of China's recent policy of trying to get a foothold in the Arctic region. Erickson addressed the dominant narrative of rising cases of the virus within the U.S. and pointed out that it is causing undue fear.

 

β€œA case is a person, healthy, that tested positive. The vast majority. But the public hears cases and thinks, β€˜Oh my goodness. These are sick people!’ No the vast majority β€” 99.8 percent of people get through this with little to no progressive or significant disease,” Erickson said.

 

The focus should not center on cases, he continued. Rather, the narrative should focus on hospitalizations and deaths that β€œare appropriately coded on a death certificate,” he said, stressing β€œappropriately coded.”

 

β€œThis is the first time I’ve seen quarantining healthy,” he continued. β€œI don’t know if you guys think that’s normal. I find that very strange.”

 

While he said it was good that the U.S. prepared for the worse, Erickson said we must be β€œrealistic with the response.”

 

β€œWho showed up? Most of the patients that were showing up for me were very mild illness,” he said, adding that he wanted to come out and β€œgive reality to the situation on the ground and sort of help dispel some fear that people have had.”

All you have to do is smear SB on the area. First wash the area, use soap, clean/dry the area, then wipe SB on the area (not wet) and leave it there, do not wash it off, leave it.
