Most of the 300-plus people charged with participating in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot have been released while they await trial, but dozens of those deemed to be dangerous, flight risks or at high risk of obstructing justice were ordered held without bond. D.C. jail officials later determined that all Capitol detainees would be placed in so-called restrictive housing — a move billed as necessary to keep the defendants safe, as well as guards and other inmates. But that means 23-hour-a-day isolation for the accused, even before their trials begin.

“Solitary confinement is a form of punishment that is cruel and psychologically damaging,” Warren said in an interview. “And we’re talking about people who haven’t been convicted of anything yet.”

The Massachusetts Democrat, a member of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's leadership team, said that while some limited uses of solitary confinement are justified, she’s worried that law enforcement officials are deploying it to “punish” the Jan. 6 defendants or to “break them so that they will cooperate.”

Her sentiments are shared by Durbin, who also chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and expressed surprise that all of the detained Jan. 6 defendants were being kept in so-called “restrictive housing.” While their defense of accused rioters' rights as criminal defendants is unlikely to change the Justice Department's handling of those cases, it's a notable case of prominent progressives using their political clout to amplify their criminal justice reform calls even on behalf of Donald Trump supporters who besieged the entire legislative branch in January.

Mr. Stutts traveled to DC to show his support for President Trump, but he wasn’t part of a planned insurrection, and he certainly never imagined he’d find himself on the steps of the Capitol building. Pressley Stutts never got past the steps of the Capitol; however, he witnessed men dressed in all black smashing windows at the Capitol building by members of the violent far-left domestic terror group, Antifa. Pressley explained that he heard women shouting, “Antifa! Antifa!” as the men dressed in black bashed out the windows of the Capitol.

His time on the steps of the Capitol building was short-lived, but the targeting of Veteran Pressley Stutts for daring to stand on the steps of the Capitol building on January 6th may follow this innocent man for the rest of his life.

This morning at 4:30 am, Stutts was again extensively searched by TSA in the Greeneville, SC airport, including a full-body search and a complete examination of his luggage. Maxine Waters (D-CA) once again defended her loaded rhetoric at a recent protest in Minnesota, describing the sharp criticism in response to her remarks as a Republican effort to “divert attention” from the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot, which she referred to as a “domestic terrorist insurrection” spearheaded by former President Donald Trump.

Waters wrote in a Los Angeles Times op-ed published Thursday:

I attended a peaceful rally to demonstrate my support in this fight to get justice for people of color who are violated and killed day in and day out. While there, I was asked: Ms. Waters, what do we do if we don’t get a guilty verdict? What should protesters do? I responded: “We got to stay on the street. And we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational.” Confronting injustice has been my life’s work.

Now, because of who I am, the right wing and members of Congress who subscribe to the views of groups like QAnon, the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys and the KKK have targeted me. Those very people have done so to divert attention from the fact that they aided and abetted a violent, domestic terrorist insurrection led by Donald Trump.

To target me and say that I was violent or encouraging violence is a blatant distortion of the truth.

On Sunday, Waters joined protests outside a police station in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, where she urged demonstrators to remain in the streets unless former Minneapolis police officer Chauvin is convicted in the death of George Floyd. Waters attended the event in support of residents who were protesting the shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, who died after he was shot by now-fired police officer Kim Potter as he resisted arrest and fled during a traffic stop.

“We’re looking for a guilty verdict,” Waters said of Chauvin. “And we’re looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd, if nothing does not happen, then we know that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we’ve got to fight for justice. But I am very hopeful, and I hope we are going to get a verdict that says ‘guilty, guilty, guilty.’ If we don’t, we cannot go away.”

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) to introduced a resolution condemning Waters for her comments, though the measure was blocked by House Democrats on Tuesday.

A motion to table McCarthy’s resolution was approved along party lines; 216 Democrats voted to table the measure, while 210 Republicans voted to have the House consider the bill for a floor vote.

Following the vote, Waters dismissed the resolution as mere “politics” and said she did not regret her comments.

Padlocks on the car taking GM to court, I'm not a vehicular security expert or anything, but they look like a crowbar wouldn't have too much trouble removing them and if they need the security why not take her in a prison van? The People Have Lost Faith in the State, and the State Has Lost Faith in its People

This is how states and empires decay and slide into the dustbin of history.

Democracy is fundamentally about advocacy: the people are free to advocate for their interests and form groups to represent their shared interests. In the broadest scope, the people are free to advocate for what they hold as the common good, policies and programs that benefit the entire populace rather than one special-interest group.

Since the state (all levels of government) concentrates wealth and power via taxation and a monopoly on force, groups advocate/lobby the state to recognize and respond to their interests. At the local level, this advocacy entails contacting city council members, speaking at council meetings, developing outreach tools (email lists, website, etc.), holding rallies at city hall, etc.

People advocate when they still have faith in their government. When they lose that faith, their only option is dissent. When advocacy yields zero results because government really only responds to corporations and the super-wealthy, then people lose faith in the representational branch of the state.

Since advocacy failed, people dissent, protesting government policies, rallying behind alternative policies and demanding a hearing of their concerns and interests.

The state tolerates polite advocacy because it is easily dismissed, but it views dissent as a threat, and responds accordingly. The state's elected officials and unelected functionaries view citizen advocacy as an annoyance, but dissent is understood as a direct challenge to the state's monopoly on force and its concentration of wealth via taxation, and a challenge to the state's freedom to exercise its powers whenever and however it wants.

Dissent is thus intolerable, especially if it demands transparency, which threatens the cozy corruption of politicos and functionaries, or threatens the wealth and power of the parasitic elites that control virtually all the nation's wealth and power.

This study of political influence and state policy decisions found that the average citizenry had zero influence: Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens.

Note the difference between conventional wealth and super-wealth. Someone earning $500,000 is wealthy to the average wage earner, but that individual pays 40+% in taxes, so they net less than $300,000, and if they live in high-cost states and have elderly parents in assisted living and kids in university, their income available to lobby the state is inconsequential compared to the tens of millions of dollars corporations and the super-wealthy routinely spend to cement their political influence.

Three Arrested in Multiagency Operation Targeting Child Sexual Predators in Hawai‘i

A multiagency undercover law enforcement operation targeting child sexual predators in Hawaiʻi from April 2-4 resulted in the arrest of three individuals on charges related to the solicitation of minors. Those arrested include two active duty soldiers and one active duty Marine, according to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

The operation, known as “Operation Keiki Shield,” was conducted as part of the Hawaiʻi Department of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. It included personnel assigned to NCIS, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, the Army Criminal Investigation Command, the Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division, the Coast Guard Investigative Service, and Homeland Security Investigations.

According to NCIS, each of the subjects allegedly used online platforms to solicit sex from undercover law enforcement officers whom they believed to be children. Law enforcement officers arrested each of the subjects upon their arrival at a predetermined location.

Four operations conducted jointly between military and civilian law enforcement as part of Operation Keiki Shield since 2019 have resulted in 24 arrests and 16 convictions. Multiple investigations are pending prosecution. Each operation included the participation of between 40 and 55 law enforcement personnel, including special agents, intelligence analysts, and administrative staff.

“The Hawaiʻi Department of the Attorney General and its Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force are committed to working with our military, federal, and local partners to protect one of our most vulnerable populations—Hawaiʻi’s children—from being preyed upon by online predators,” said Hawaiʻi Attorney General Clare E. Connors. “We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with these military criminal investigative agencies and commend their leadership in holding servicemembers who break the law accountable.”

“As the federal law enforcement organization for the Department of the Navy, NCIS exists to protect our warfighters and their families from the criminal threats, including those posed by child sexual predators,” said NCIS Special Agent in Charge of the NCIS Hawaiʻi Field Office Norman Dominesey. “NCIS and our federal and local law enforcement partners in Hawaiʻi remain committed to working together to proactively root out crime that threatens the safety of our military and civilian communities.”

Eight ‘sexual predators’ arrested during task force operation in Sweetwater

SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A two-day task force to combat child sex crimes in Sweetwater led to the arrest of eight suspects.

Police say the following ‘sexual predators’ were all identified, located, and arrested after “attempting to prey on children within the community:”

Jose Robert Hernandez, 30, of Sweetwater

Daniel Ochoa, 20, of Killeen

Thomas William Harviel, 35, of Sweetwater

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signs two laws increasing firearm regulationsApril 20 (UPI) – Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a pair of bills increasing regulations surrounding the tracking and storage of firearms.

Polis on Monday signed Senate Bill 78, which requires a gun owner to report their lost or stolen firearm within five days or face fines, and House Bill 1106, which requires gun owners to "responsibly and securely" store their firearms when not in use to prevent access from unauthorized users and requires a licensed gun dealer to provide a locking device during a firearm sale or transfer.

The Senate measure was renamed the Isabella Joy Thallas Act after a 21-year-old woman who was shot and killed by a stolen rifle belonging to a Denver police sergeant.

"While of course this legislation can't bring any of our fellow Coloradoans back who are no longer with us, we know that this not only can prevent future loss of life, but can also be part of the healing for the Thallas family and so many others impacted by gun violence by a stolen gun," Polis said in a press conference before the signing.

The law, which is slated to take effect in mid-September, institutes a $25 fine for failing to report a stolen firearm and a maximum fine of $500 for a second offense.

Law enforcement who receive reports of lost or stolen firearms will also be required to enter available information describing the weapons into the Colorado Bureau of Investigations Crime Information Center Database.

The second law will take effect on July 1 and requires weapons to be stored in a gun safe or with a trigger or cable lock when the owner is aware that a "juvenile or a resident who is ineligible to possess a firearm can gain access to the firearm."

Antique firearms are exempt and owners are not required to store their firearms this way if they are carrying the weapon or place it in a "secure container which a reasonable person would believe to be secure."

Violations could result in a class 2 misdemeanor offense including the potential for fines and jail time in rare cases.

Both laws were introduced before a shooting last month at a King Soopers supermarket in Boulder that left 10 people, including a police officer, dead.

Other gun control measures are expected to be debated in the state's legislature later in the year.

The technology is near ubiquitous: the thin, plastic lining found in aluminum soda cans. On Thursday, a jury in East Tennessee convicted a chemist who once worked at Coca-Cola of stealing information about that technology for the Chinese government.

The lining in a soda can is designed to protect the aluminum from corrosion and the contents from contamination. According to court documents, it had cost $119.6 million to develop a liner free of BPA, a chemical compound with potential health risks.

Prosecutors said Xiaorong You aka Shannon You, a 59-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Lansing, Michigan, took the trade secrets belonging to a handful of companies when she worked at Coca-Cola in Atlanta and then at Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, Tennessee.

In a press release announcing the conviction, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Eastern Tennessee said You hoped the technology would have benefitted the Chinese Communist Party and she planned to start a company that would have applied the BPA-free coating in China.

FBI Director Christopher Wray has said China’s economic espionage is one of the greatest long-term threats to the United States’ national and economic security.

You applied for two grants, one under the Chinese government’s Thousand Talents Plan designed to bring technology to the communist nation, and received more than 12 million Chinese Yuan, or about $1.8 million.

According to the government’s trial brief, You copied dozens of trade secret files to an external hard drive late in the evening on Aug. 29, 2017, days after she had traveled to China to defend one of her grant applications.

At the time, You was working as the principal engineer for global research at Coca-Cola and the company terminated her employment on Aug. 31, 2017. The next day, she began working at Eastman Chemical as a packaging application development manager.

“Because of Dr. You’s extensive education and experience with BPA and BPA-free coating technologies, she was one of a limited number of Coca-Cola employees with access to BPA-free trade secrets belonging to Akzo-Nobel, BASF, Dow Chemical, PPG, Toyochem, and Sherwin Williams,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office press release said.

In a statement, Coca-Cola said it was aware of the verdict.

“The Coca-Cola Company takes the protection of trade secrets and confidential information very seriously, especially information entrusted to the company by our partners,” it said.

On June 21, 2018, according to prosecutors, You copied hundreds of confidential files belonging to Eastman to a Google Drive account, minutes ahead of a meeting where she thought she was going to be fired. Her employment with Eastman ended that month.

You was arrested in Lansing on Valentines Day 2019. Her apartment was furnished with only a mattress, a folding table and a folding chair, according to her detention order. She had a briefcase that held her passport, thousands of dollars worth of currencies, bank statements and her diplomas.

The FBI interviewed her for about two hours that day, where she made “dozens of relevant and incriminating admissions,” according to the government’s trial brief.

You’s attorneys did not return emailed requests for comment. In their response to the government’s brief, attorneys Thomas Jessee and Corey Shipley said the clips of the FBI interview prosecutors planned to show at the trial that lasted 12 days had the potential to be taken out of context.

Baltimore County, Maryland: "The Baltimore County Police Department on Thursday arrested a suspended Bladensburg police officer in connection with a third-degree sex offense, sex abuse of a minor and second-degree assault investigation. LoQune Brown is an eight-year veteran on their community action team.

The 34-year-old was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of third-degree sex offense, two counts of sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of second-degree assault. He is a corporal with the Bladensburg Police Department.

After years of propaganda and misleading statistics, child sex trafficking conspiracies have become a gateway to right-wing extremism.

Christine Priola had worked in the Cleveland public school district for nearly 20 years when she resigned suddenly on Jan. 7, the day after she stormed the US Capitol, marching into the Senate chamber with a sign that said, “The children cry out for justice.”

“I will be switching paths to expose the global evil of human trafficking and pedophilia, including in our government and children’s services agencies,” she wrote in her resignation letter.

“This world is run on the blood of innocent children, please look into it,” she told a local news crew a few days later.

Others in the crowd on Jan. 6 held similar beliefs, bearing signs and shirts referencing QAnon, the mass delusion that a secret cabal is operating a global child trafficking network that Donald Trump was trying to stop. Among QAnon’s followers were two women who died at the Capitol insurrection: Rosanne Boyland overdosed on amphetamines, and Ashli Babbitt was shot by a Capitol Police officer. Priola now faces federal charges for unlawful and disorderly conduct for her role. (She did not respond to an interview request.)

Conspiracy theories about sex trafficking and child abuse have been a core feature of the online fever swamp that bloomed under Trump, acting as a powerful recruitment tool and call to action. During Trump’s years in office, believers cited these conspiracies to argue that Hillary Clinton should be arrested, discussed spreading them to divert attention from stories about children separated from their families at the US-Mexico border, and wielded them as a cudgel against mask-wearing policies, claiming that covering up faces would abet traffickers. And, after Trump called on his supporters to defend his false claims of election fraud, some who showed up to the “Stop the Steal” rally believed him to be on the verge of taking down the cabal.

But while attempts to reckon with the insurrection have largely focused on Trump’s incitement and the complicity of social media companies, the conspiracies at the core of the QAnon mass delusion were also fed by an ongoing moral panic over child sex trafficking that has not faced the same scrutiny. And, as sex trafficking conspiracies continue to proliferate in spite of the conspiracy’s many failed prophecies, some fear that the movement’s proponents, who had expected Trump to fight these imagined abuses, may now be recruited by other extremist groups or feel compelled to take matters into their own hands.

Defendant spent months communicating online regarding sexual abuse of children

Seattle – A Brooklyn, New York, man was arrested late yesterday in SeaTac, Washington, on criminal charges related to his alleged plan to travel to Washington State for sexual abuse of a minor.

According to court documents, Rajesh Singh, 28, began communicating with an undercover officer in August 2020 about his desire to travel to Washington State to sexually abuse a child under the age of 12. The undercover officer was participating in an internet-based chat platform known to be used by individuals interested in child exploitation and child exploitation imagery. The undercover agent created a fictitious daughter under the age of 12, and Singh communicated extensively about his desire to rape the child and film the sexual assault. At various times in the chats, Singh indicated he had previously molested children. Singh was observed in New York getting on a flight to Seattle, arrived at Sea-Tac, and took a shuttle to an area hotel and was arrested there by agents with Homeland Security Investigation. Singh appeared in U.S. District Court in Seattle today and remains detained.

Rajesh Singh is charged with Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child Under Twelve, Attempted Production of Child Pornography, and Attempted Enticement of a Minor. If convicted, Singh faces a mandatory minimum 30 years in prison and up to life in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Acting U.S. Attorney Tessa Gorman of the Western District of Washington and Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer made the announcement.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations are investigating the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Hampton is prosecuting the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. HOUSTON – A 41-year-old Houston-area man has been ordered to federal prison for 40 years after producing videos of his sexual abuse of a minor, possession of child pornography, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery.

Miguel Rivera pleaded guilty Oct. 30, 2020, to production, receipt and possession of child pornography.

Today, U.S. District Judge Charles Eskridge ordered him to serve a 480-month sentence. The court also heard additional information today including a statement from the victim detailing how Rivera’s heinous acts affected her childhood and to this day. In handing down the sentence, the court noted the seriousness of the offense, promoting respect for the law and deterrence of such criminal conduct. Rivera will serve the rest of his life on supervised release following completion of his prison term, during which time he will have to comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the internet. He will also be ordered to register as a sex offender.

In June 2019, law enforcement located an IP address with a folder containing child pornography using a publicly available peer-to-peer file-sharing network. The IP address was linked to Rivera and his residence.

Forensic analysis resulted in the discovery of 56,250 images of child pornography on his electronic devices. Approximately 412 videos were over five minutes in length, the longest of which was nearly an hour.

Rivera also produced 3,200 images and over 160 videos of sexually abusing a minor while the child was unconscious.

He admitted he had been downloading child pornography for at least a decade.

Rivera has been and will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.

The FBI conducted the investigation.

Federal Jury Convicts Former Wells Fargo Employee Of Child Pornography

STATESVILLE, N.C. – A federal jury sitting in Statesville has convicted a former Wells Fargo Information Technology (IT) employee of child pornography charges, announced William T. Stetzer, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. The jury found Michael Scott Hoover, 50, of Wilkesboro, N.C., guilty of two counts of production and one count of possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Kenneth D. Bell presided over the two-day trial which ended late yesterday.

Ronnie Martinez, Special Agent in Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Charlotte, Robert Schurmeier, Director of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and Sheriff Chris Shew of the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office join Acting U.S. Attorney Stetzer in making today’s announcement.

According to filed court documents, evidence presented at trial and witness testimony, between June 2018 and August 2019, Hoover produced child pornography on two different occasions by using two minor victims to engage in sexually explicit conduct, which Hoover recorded on his work cell phone. According to witness testimony, the child pornography was found on Hoover’s work cell phone during an internal investigation by his employer at the time, Wells Fargo. Trial evidence established that videos and images recovered from Hoover’s work cell phone depicted minor males as young as 12 years old engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Following the guilty verdict, Hoover was remanded into federal custody. A sentencing date has not been set. The possession of child pornography charge carries a maximum prison term of 10 years and a $250,000 fine. The charge of production of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years in prison per count and a $250,000 fine.

In making today’s announcement, Acting U.S. Attorney Stetzer commended the investigative work of the HSI, SBI, and the Wilke’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The prosecution for the government was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cortney Randall, of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney (SAUSA) Stephanie Spaugh. Ms. Spaugh is a state prosecutor with the office of the 26th Prosecutorial District and was assigned by District Attorney Spencer Merriweather to serve as a SAUSA with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte. Ms. Spaugh is duly sworn in both state and federal courts. The SAUSA position is a reflection of the partnership between the office of the 26th Prosecutorial District and the United States Attorney’s Office.

Maricopa County Audit WILL Continue After Arizona Democrats Refuse To Pay $1 Million Bond

The forensic audit of over 2 million ballots from Maricopa County will continue unabated, after Arizona Democrats refused to pay a judge-ordered $1 million bond.

National File reported on Friday that Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Christoper Coury said that the forensic audit of all 2.1 million 2020 ballots from the Arizona county, which started on Friday, should be temporarily halted from Friday at 5 p.m. until 12 p.m. on Monday. The order came as the result of a lawsuit from Arizona Democrats, who wanted to stop the Maricopa audit, claiming that they were various irregularities with the effort, despite the Senate ensuring a high level of transparency throughout the process.

The court ultimately determined the Democrats should put up $1 million in order to pause the audit, to fund any potential increase in costs that would come as a result of the temporary halt. The pause would not go ahead without the bond being posted. On Friday afternoon, the Arizona Democrat Party confirmed that they were completely unwilling to pony up the money.

In a press release, the chair of the Arizona Democrats, Raquel Terán, claimed that the “lack of transparency” from Senate President Fann and Cyber Ninjas about what the actual cost of the audit is “makes the question of posting a $1 million bond laughable.” Terán added that “the Arizona Democratic Party will not risk our supporters’s hard-earned dollars to pay off the Cyber Ninjas for a procedure they are billing Arizona taxpayers to the tune of $150,000.”

The Arizona Democrat Party chair for some reason brought up the fact that private donations from people like Lin Wood and other smaller funding sources were being used to help assist in the cost of the audit. “The fact of the matter is that no one knows the actual cost of this sham audit and President Fann and the Cyber Ninjas have not once made this figure public,” Terán continued.

“Democrats [are] doing everything to stop [the] audit, including filing lawsuits attacking the ‘integrity’ of the process,” said the Arizona GOP in a tweet before the statement on Friday. “So NOW they care about election integrity? Nope. They just don’t want Americans to be involved in our own elections,” they added.

Lindsay Lohan’s dad Michael busted for allegedly steering addicts into rehab for cash

Lindsay Lohan’s dad was busted in Palm Beach on Friday for allegedly pocketing at least $25,000 in illegal kickbacks in return for steering addicts — including a woman he was sleeping with — into a Florida drug treatment center.

Lohan, 60, who keeps addresses in Boca Raton and in Southampton, collected bounties on addicts he referred to the Pride Recovery Center in Delray Beach in 2017 and 2018, court documents charge.

One of those addicts was a woman he referred to Pride Recovery while he was in a “sexual relationship” with her, the arrest warrant states.

For that woman — whose name is revealed only by the initials “B.M.” in court papers — Lohan received a May 4, 2018 check from Pride Recovery amounting to $5,000, the arrest warrant states.

Patient records show the woman was referred for treatment that day, the court papers allege.

Lohan is the 117th person busted in an ongoing Palm Beach County probe into illegal “patient brokering,” according to Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg.

“Mr. Lohan was investigated by our Sober Homes Task Force and he’s being charged with receiving kickbacks for referring patients to drug treatment,” Aronberg said in a statement.

“Patient brokering corrupts our health care system because decisions are motivated by greed instead of a patient’s needs,” he added.

“This is our Task Force’s 117th arrest and will not be our last,” he said of Lohan.
