The United States fears a strike on its troops in Syria by Russian electronic warfare systems.

Michael Kurilla, Chief of Staff of the US Central Command, said that Russia plans to use its electronic warfare weapons against US troops in Syria. This can lead to extremely undesirable consequences, especially considering that American military helicopters, fighter jets and attack drones can constantly be seen over the Arab Republic. According to Michael Kurill, the consequences of the use of electronic warfare systems by Russia can be very serious, as this will undermine the security of American forces and units.

“Kurilla said that any move in Ukraine could provoke action in Syria, where Russia is acting in support of President Bashar al-Assad and hindering the spread of democracy. “I believe that if Russia invades Ukraine, they will not hesitate to act as our adversaries in Syria as well,” he said, before referring to Russian electronic warfare activity. “We already view Russian EW assets as one of the most problematic environments we have ever encountered.”, - according to the newspaper "Daily Mail".

Why exactly Kurilla connected Syria and Ukraine is unknown, however, given the previously published data from both Russian and foreign media, the Russian side is actively using its electronic countermeasures against the United States in Syria, however, this only happens when Washington goes to provocations and escalation of the situation in the Arab Republic, which can be equated with such steps as a way to ensure security.

On Monday morning, Louisville, KY, police responded to a call of an active shooter at the campaign headquarters of mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg. Greenberg, a Democrat, is one of 11 or so active candidates for that office.

It seems that shortly after 10 AM, someone entered Greenberg’s office and attempted to light him up with a 9mm pistol. Before fleeing the scene, the shooter fired four rounds at Greenberg, managing to put one round through Greenberg’s clothes.

“The gunman stood in the doorway as he fired the shots and one of my teammates was standing to the side of the door and was able to get the door slammed and then he and other teammates that were closer to the door just threw tables and desks to barricade us in,” Greenberg said at a press conference.

The police arrested the shooter a short while later.

Quintez Brown, 21, was charged with attempted murder and four counts of wanton endangerment after Greenberg was shot at in his campaign headquarters Monday morning in Butchertown, LMPD spokeswoman Elizabeth Ruoff said late Monday.

Brown, a civil rights activist, is a former intern and editorial columnist for The Courier Journal.

Officers found a man matching the suspect’s description less than a half-mile from the campaign headquarters about 10 minutes later, carrying a loaded 9mm magazine in his pants pocket, according to the arrest report.

He also had a drawstring bag with a handgun, handgun case and additional magazines, the report said.

Surveillance video from the building showed the suspect wearing clothes matching Brown’s and carrying a matching bag, the report said.

What makes this arrest so interesting is that the shooter, Brown, is a candidate for a seat on the Louisville city council.

What happened in Louisville appears to be political terrorism. A political activist associated with a movement that uses violence as one of its tools to accomplish its goals attempted to kill a candidate for political office. There is no known personal connection between Brown and Greenberg. At a minimum, there should be a major FBI investigation of Brown and his associates to determine a motive.

RISPCA investigating ‘ritualistic sacrificial killing’ of chickens

 

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who can lead investigators to those responsible for the “ritualistic sacrificial killing” of several chickens throughout Rhode Island.

 

The way the chickens are being killed is “brutal and not consistent with humane killings that would meet religious exemptions,” according to the Rhode Island Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA).

 

Earl Newman, RISPCA’s humane law enforcement agent, said they’ve been working on this case for one and a half years.

 

“Hopefully this reward will allow us to secure information to lead to a closure of this case,” Newman added.

 

The Humane Society said the first chickens were found in the area of Warwick City Hall, and investigators believe they were killed somewhere else and transported there.

 

Other birds have been found discarded around the state, including on the side of the road, at a cemetery, and in one Rhode Islander’s front yard.

 

Upon examining the birds, the Humane Society said they were all “deliberately tormented and killed.”

 

Two of the chickens, according to the Humane Society, appeared to have been stomped to death, while another “had internal trauma and appeared to have been hit with something.” The Humane Society said all of the chickens were suspended upside down by their legs prior to their deaths.

 

“The cruel ways these animals were killed caused them significant suffering, and were clearly in violation of the state’s animal cruelty statute,” the Humane Society said.

The new law would make it more difficult for Mr Khan to fire or suspend any future police chief constables. The law would cover the potential dismissal of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. It is thought that her resignation may accelerate the changes.

 

The legal change would prevent police and crime commissioners (PCCs) - the role held by Mr Khan in London - from dismissing chief constables as a result of political or personal reasons.

 

Speaking about the changes, a government source said: "At the moment, the PCC can hire and fire at will.

Mr Khan faced backlash from the Metropolitan Police Federation over Dame Cressida's resignation, with the organisation saying it has "no faith" in his leadership.

He added: "This is not a move we take lightly.

 

"We have let the Mayor's office know in no uncertain terms how our brave and diligent colleagues deserve better.

But a spokesperson for Mr Khan said a change of leadership "was the only way to address this crisis in trust".

 

They added: "The series of scandals seen in recent years has tarnished the reputation of the police, which is so crucial to policing by consent.

 

"Downplaying the scale of the change required is only going to hinder, not help, the vital process of restoring Londoners’ trust in the Met."

 

The new law will amend section 38 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011, preventing PCCs from hiring and firing at will if their relationship with the chief constable deteriorates.

 

It will force them to give written notice as the first stage of any dismissal process and will introduce a time limit on any suspension, alongside introducing an arbitration mechanism.

 

This is not the first time a mayor has faced controversy for the hiring and firing of a chief constable.

 

In 2020, Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham pushed Ian Hopkins to quit as chief constable of Greater Manchester Police.

 

At the time, Ms Patel accused the Labour mayor of having "thrown a senior police officer under the bus to save his own skin".

 

Boris Johnson as Mayor of London also forced the resignation of Lord Blair of Boughton as Met Police commissioner in 2008.

Their case study, from New York, bears significance for a number of reasons.

The “past middle-aged” woman, who chose not to be identified in the interest of privacy, was among the first to receive a novel transplant method using umbilical cord blood, fortified with a mutation that blocks HIV from entering her cells. She also received partially matched blood stem cells from a first-degree relative — a parent, offspring or sibling — while the cord blood treatment worked its way through her rejiggered immune system.

A Woman Is Cured of H.I.V. Using a Novel Treatment

She’s the third person ever to be cured. Researchers announced that the new approach holds the potential for curing more people of racially diverse backgrounds.

A woman of mixed race appears to be the third person ever to be cured of H.I.V., using a new transplant method involving umbilical cord blood that opens up the possibility of curing more people of diverse racial backgrounds than was previously possible, scientists announced on Tuesday.

Cord blood is more widely available than the adult stem cells used in the bone marrow transplants that cured the previous two patients, and it does not need to be matched as closely to the recipient. Most donors in registries are of Caucasian origin, so allowing for only a partial match has the potential to cure dozens of Americans who have both H.I.V. and cancer each year, scientists said.

The woman, who also had leukemia, received cord blood to treat her cancer. It came from a partially matched donor, instead of the typical practice of finding a bone marrow donor of similar race and ethnicity to the patient’s. She also received blood from a close relative to give her body temporary immune defenses while the transplant took.

Researchers presented some of the details of the new case on Tuesday at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Denver, Colo.

The sex and racial background of the new case mark a significant step forward in developing a cure for H.I.V., the researchers said.

“The fact that she’s mixed race, and that she’s a woman, that is really important scientifically and really important in terms of the community impact,” said Dr. Steven Deeks, an AIDS expert at the University of California, San Francisco who was not involved in the work.

Infection with H.I.V. is thought to progress differently in women than in men, but while women account for more than half of H.I.V cases in the world, they make up only 11 percent of participants in cure trials.

But Dr. Deeks said he did not see the new approach becoming commonplace. “These are stories of providing inspiration to the field and perhaps the road map,” he said.

Powerful antiretroviral drugs can control H.I.V., but a cure is key to ending the decades-old pandemic. Worldwide, nearly 38 million people are living with H.I.V., and about 73 percent of them are receiving treatment.

A bone marrow transplant is not a realistic option for most patients. Such transplants are highly invasive and risky, so they are generally offered only to people with cancer who have exhausted all other options.

There have only been two known cases of an H.I.V. cure so far. Referred to as “The Berlin Patient,” Timothy Ray Brown stayed virus-free for 12 years, until he died in 2020 of cancer. In 2019, another patient, later identified as Adam Castillejo, was reported to be cured of H.I.V., confirming that Mr. Brown’s case was not a fluke.

Both men received bone marrow transplants from donors who carried a mutation that blocks H.I.V. infection. The mutation has been identified in only about 20,000 donors, most of whom are of Northern European descent.

In the previous cases, as the bone marrow transplants replaced all of their immune systems, both men suffered punishing side effects, including graft versus host disease, a condition in which the donor’s cells attack the recipient’s body. Mr. Brown nearly died after his transplant. Mr. Castillejo’s treatment was less intense, but in the year after his transplant, he lost nearly 70 pounds, developed a hearing loss and survived multiple infections, according to his doctors.

By contrast, the woman in the latest case left the hospital by day 17 after her transplant and did not develop graft versus host disease, said Dr. JingMei Hsu, the patient’s physician at Weill Cornell Medicine. The combination of cord blood and her relative’s cells might have spared her much of the brutal side effects of a typical bone marrow transplant, Dr. Hsu said.

“It was previously thought that graft versus host disease might be an important reason for an H.I.V. cure in the prior cases,” said Dr. Sharon Lewin, president-elect of the International AIDS Society, who was not involved in the work. The new results dispel that idea, Dr. Lewin said.

The woman, who is now past middle age (she did not want to disclose her exact age because of privacy concerns), was diagnosed with H.I.V. in June 2013. Antiretroviral drugs kept her virus levels low. In March 2017, she was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia.

In August of that year, she received cord blood from a donor with the mutation that blocks H.I.V.’s entry into cells. But it can take about six weeks for cord blood cells to engraft, so she was also given partially matched blood stem cells from a first-degree relative.

The half-matched “haplo” cells from her relative propped up her immune system until the cord blood cells became dominant, making the transplant much less dangerous, said Dr. Marshall Glesby, an infectious diseases expert at Weill Cornell Medicine of New York and part of the research team.

“The transplant from the relative is like a bridge that got her through to the point of the cord blood being able to take over,” he said.

The patient opted to discontinue antiretroviral therapy 37 months after the transplant. More than 14 months later, she now shows no signs of H.I.V. in blood tests, and does not seem to have detectable antibodies to the virus.

It’s unclear exactly why stem cells from cord blood seem to work so well, experts said. One possibility is that they are more capable of adapting to a new environment, said Dr. Koen Van Besien, director of the transplant service at Weill Cornell. “These are newborns, they are more adaptable,” he said.

Cord blood may also contain elements beyond the stem cells that aid in the transplant.

“Umbilical stem cells are attractive,” Dr. Deeks said. “There’s something magical about these cells and something magical perhaps about the cord blood in general that provides an extra benefit.”

Ties between Ukraine and Russia have been fraught since 2014, when Moscow annexed the Crimean peninsula on Ukraine's Black Sea coast and backed separatists fighting in its east, triggering Western sanctions and condemnation.

 

The land grab followed a violent pro-Western revolution that year that forced out a Ukrainian president allied with Moscow.

 

Russia's General Prosecutor's Office said in a statement it had filed human rights complaints with the European Court of Human Rights over violence in Kyiv and Odessa in 2014 and the deaths of people killed by shelling in Ukraine's east.

 

It said Ukraine had blocked the North Crimean Canal, which supplies fresh water to Crimea, and has been described as a potential flashpoint between Moscow and Kyiv.

 

Other grievances included alleged discrimination against Russian speakers by Ukraine and attacks on Russian diplomatic representations.

 

Ukraine's Justice Minister Denys Malyuska said Russia would lose in court and described the complaints as based on "myths", although he said they had propaganda value for Russia.

 

"You can't call this move completely pointless - it will create an additional media platform to brainwash (people)…" he said on Facebook.

 

Kyiv says 14,000 people have been killed in fighting in Ukraine's east. Ukraine and Western countries accuse Russia of sending troops and heavy weapons to support proxy fighters who seized a swathe of the eastern Donbass region in 2014.

I could be wrong but it is my understanding that all blood is supposed to flow to the baby before the cord is cut, thus giving it all possible antibodies from the mother. [WASHINGTON, D.C. – Feb. 15, 2022] Food and Drug Administration [FDA] Executive Officer, Christopher Cole, inadvertently revealed that his agency will eventually announce that annual COVID-19 vaccinations will become policy.

 

Cole is an Executive Officer heading up the agency’s Countermeasures Initiatives, which plays a critical role in ensuring that drugs, vaccines, and other measures to counter infectious diseases and viruses are safe. He made the revelations on a hidden camera to an undercover Project Veritas reporter.

 

Cole indicates that annual COVID-19 shots isn’t probable – but certain. When pushed on how he knows an annual shot will become policy, Cole states, “Just from everything I’ve heard, they [FDA] are not going to not approve it.”

 

The footage, which is part one of a two-part series on the FDA, also contains soundbites from Cole about the financial incentives pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer have to get the vaccine approved for annual usage.

 

“It’ll be recurring fountain of revenue,” Cole said in the hidden camera footage. “It might not be that much initially, but it’ll recurring if they can if they can get every person required at an annual vaccine, that is a recurring return of money going into their company.”

 

Perhaps the most explosive part of the footage is the moment where Cole brazenly talks about the impact that an Emergency Use Authorization has on overcoming the regulatory concerns of mandating vaccines on children.

 

“They’re all approved under an emergency just because it’s not as impactful as some of the other approvals,” Cole said when asked if he thought there was “really an emergency for kids.”

 

Cole, who claims his role with the FDA is to ensure the agency uses a framework of safety, security, and effectiveness as a part of its preparedness and response protocol, specifically cited concerns over “long term effects, especially with someone younger.”

The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program, a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium, reached Montreal on Saturday to complete a top-secret U.S. operation.

 

The removal of 550 metric tonnes of "yellowcake," the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment, included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a voyage across two oceans.

 

The Iraqi government sold the yellowcake to a Canadian uranium producer, Cameco Corp., in a transaction the official described as worth "tens of millions of dollars."

 

A Cameco spokesman, Lyle Krahn, said the yellowcake will be processed at facilities in Ontario for use in energy-producing reactors.

 

"We are pleased … that we have taken [the yellowcake] from a volatile region into a stable area to produce clean electricity," Krahn said.

 

U.S. and Iraqi forces have guarded the 9,300-hectare yellowcake site since its discovery.

 

The deal culminated more than a year of intense diplomatic and military initiatives — kept hushed in fear of ambushes or attacks once the convoys were under way.

 

It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid their nuclear ambitions.

 

Diplomats and military leaders first weighed the idea of shipping the yellowcake overland to Kuwait's port on the Persian Gulf.

 

Such a route, however, would pass through Iraq's Shiite heartland and be within easy range of extremists.

 

The ship also would need to clear the narrow Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Gulf, where U.S. and Iranian ships often come in close contact.

 

Kuwaiti authorities, too, were reluctant to open their borders to the shipment despite top-level lobbying from Washington.

 

Deal reached earlier this year

The yellowcake still needed a final destination. Iraqi government officials sought buyers on the commercial market, where uranium prices spiked at about $120 per pound last year. It's currently selling for about half that.

 

The Cameco deal was reached earlier this year, the official said.

 

At that point, U.S.-led crews began removing the yellowcake from the Saddam-era containers, some leaking or weakened by corrosion, and reloading the material into about 3,500 secure barrels.

In April, truck convoys started moving the yellowcake from Tuwaitha to Baghdad's international airport.

 

Then, for two weeks in May, it was ferried on 37 flights to Diego Garcia, a speck of British territory in the Indian Ocean where the U.S. military maintains a base.

 

On June 3, an American ship left the island for Montreal.

 

While yellowcake alone is not considered potent enough for a so-called "dirty bomb" — a conventional explosive that disperses radioactive material — it could stir widespread panic if incorporated in a blast.

 

Yellowcake also can be enriched for use in reactors and, at higher levels, nuclear weapons using sophisticated equipment.
