Study Confirms Media Buries Murderers' Race - Unless They're White

 

"White offenders' race was mentioned in roughly 1 out of every 4 articles, compared with 1 in 17 articles about a black offender and 1 in 33 articles about a Hispanic offender."

 

The Washington Free Beacon examined over a thousand articles on homicides from the NY Times, LA Times, Chicago Tribune and other major papers and found that the media systematically buries the race of murderers – unless they're white, in which case they make sure to highlight it right in the beginning of their stories.

 

Their research also showed that the media's anti-white bias has only gotten worse since the Summer of Floyd.

The Free Beacon collected data on nearly 1,100 articles about homicides from six major papers, all written between 2019 and 2021. Those papers included the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, San Francisco Chronicle, and Minneapolis's Star-Tribune–representatives of each paper did not return requests for comment for this article. For each article, we collected the offender's and victim's name and race, and noted where in the article the offender's race was mentioned, if at all.

 

The data suggest an alarming editorial trend in which major papers routinely omit information from news reports, presenting readers with a skewed picture of who does and doesn't commit crime. These editorial choices are part and parcel with the "racial reckoning" that swept newsrooms in the wake of Floyd's murder, which saw journalists dramatically overhauling crime coverage to emphasize the view that the criminal justice system is racist at the root–perhaps at the expense of honesty about individual offenders' crimes.

These people deserve the credit for the deaths of nearly a million Americans

 

Summary

 

The members of COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel of the NIH apparently doesn’t seem to place any value on human life. In this article, I will show several examples of this.

 

At no time is there ever a risk-benefit analysis where a dollar amount is placed on the value of a human life. For example, if there are 100 trials and 90% of the trials were positive and 10% were neutral, should the NIH recommend the drug?

 

Unfortunately, they aren’t accountable to anyone, so they will never have to defend their recommendations.

 

Nearly a million people have died in the US due to their failure to correctly assess what the data says and recommend interventions that are more likely to be beneficial than detrimental.

 

What do they do instead? They recommend you take a vaccine that is more likely to kill you than save you.

 

I’ve invited any of them to discuss this in a recorded meeting with me and a few of my colleagues, but even with a β€œname your price” incentive, none of them will accept because they know their decisions are not defensible.

 

In an email to a professor of medicine at a top university, I noted that no matter what the evidence says, they won’t change their recommendations. The professor wrote back, β€œSuspect you may be correct.” I won’t reveal his name so he doesn’t get fired. That means that fact checkers can’t attack this article with ad hominem attacks on my credentials. And they can’t attack this article on the data either.

 

If you are fact checking my article, please let’s have a recorded conversation about it before you write your fact check. If you don’t do that, you are being disingenuous.

I was one of the funders of Dr. Boulware’s study on HCQ.

 

The study showed it was effective for COVID when given early, but the effect wasn’t statistically significant because the trial didn’t enroll enough patients.

 

However, David Wiseman subsequently discovered that the effect was statistically significant if one factors in the delivery time of the drug. When the mainstream journals refused to publish his analysis, he published it on a preprint server.

Israeli Spyware Maker NSO Group Asks SCOTUS For Sovereign Immunity

 

Israeli spyware developer NSO Group is urging the Supreme Court to recognize it as a foreign government agent, a move it says would give it immunity under U.S. laws restricting lawsuits against foreign countries.

 

NSO’s leading software product, Pegasus, allows operators to clandestinely surveil a suspect’s mobile phoneβ€”access contacts and messages, as well as the built-in camera, microphone, and location history. NSO says it deals only with government law enforcement agencies and that all sales are approved by the Israeli Defense Ministry. It refuses to identify its clients.

 

WhatsApp parent Facebook, which renamed itself Meta Platforms Inc., filed suit against NSO in 2019, claiming the company targeted about 1,400 users of its encrypted messaging service using sophisticated spyware. Meta wants to prevent NSO from accessing Facebook platforms and servers and is seeking unspecified damages.

 

WhatsApp accused NSO of wrongdoing in a statement.

 

β€œNSO’s spyware invades the rights of citizens, journalists, and human rights activists around the globe, and their attacks must be stopped,” WhatsApp said. Two U.S. courts have already rejected β€œNSO’s contrived bid for immunity, and we believe there is no reason for the Supreme Court to hear their last-ditch attempt to avoid accountability.”

 

Apple sued NSO in 2021, claiming it needed to do so to prevent NSO from hacking its products, calling the company’s employees β€œamoral 21st century mercenaries.”

 

Critics claim some NSO clients, including Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan have used the company’s products to spy on adversaries and repress dissent. The U.S. Department of Commerce blacklisted NSO, saying its products have played a role in β€œtransnational repression.”

 

But NSO, which is close to the Israeli government, says it cannot control what users do with its products and that it has done nothing wrong.

 

β€œNSO products are used exclusively by government intelligence and law enforcement agencies to fight crime and terror,” the company’s website states. Its products have been used to prevent car and suicide bombings, break up pedophilia rings, and help locate survivors trapped under collapsed buildings, the website continues.

 

Bestowing sovereign immunity on NSO would make it harder for WhatsApp to move forward and could shield NSO from a discovery process that could identify its customers and trade secrets.

 

The petition (pdf) in NSO Group Technologies Ltd. v. WhatsApp Inc., court file 21-1338, was docketed April 8 by the Supreme Court. The company is appealing an adverse ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

 

On Nov. 8, 2021, the 9th Circuit voted 3-0 (pdf) to deny NSO’s motion to throw out the lawsuit.

 

Circuit Judge Danielle Forrest, who was appointed by then-President Donald Trump, wrote: β€œ[t]he question presented is whether foreign sovereign immunity protects private companies. The law governing this question has roots extending back to our earliest history as a nation, and it leads to a simple answerβ€”no. Indeed, the title of the legal doctrine itselfβ€”foreign sovereign immunityβ€”suggests the outcome.”

 

But in its petition, NSO states that many national governments, including the United States, rely on private contractors to carry out or support core governmental activities.

 

β€œIf such contractors can never seek immunity, as the Ninth Circuit held, then the United States and other countries may soon find their military and intelligence operations disrupted by lawsuits against their agents,” the petition continues.

 

The respondents, WhatsApp and Meta, have until May 9, to file a response with the Supreme Court.

CTCL Announces $80 Million Program to Run Elections

 

The nonprofit Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) now promises it will refrain from funding midterm elections in the fall. However, CTCL also announced on Monday its β€œnonpartisan collaborative” to β€œhelp local election departments improve operations, develop a set of shared standards and values, and obtain access to best-in-class resources to run successful elections.”

 

CTCL benefitted from approximately $350 million in donations from the Chan-Zuckerberg Foundation, helping the 2020 Biden win in critical cities across the nation. Much of the money was sent to democrat strongholds in swing states, distributed in the form of grants. In the end, however, hundreds of county and city elections officials in 47 states and the District of Columbia received grants, according to The Capital Research Center.

 

Executive Director Tiana Epps-Johnson touted the Center’s newest initiative called the β€œU.S. Alliance for Election Excellence” on her Twitter feed on Monday. It is β€œa five-year, $80m nonpartisan program that’s open to every election department in the nation.”

 

CTCL says it has invited β€œall U.S. election departments” to be a U.S. Center for Election Excellence,” says the webpage for the Alliance. The deadline for participation is May 6 at 7 p.m. It appears, however, that there will be a selection process for participation, as captured from their website below:

Germany’s Involvement in Military Biological Programs in Ukraine

 

According to the Russian Federation Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, extensive dangerous biological military weapons and research programs have been found in Ukraine.

 

As 21WIRE previously reported, many of these highly exotic projects are being funded by the United States, under the Pentagon’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).

 

However, the story does not end there. Other alleged bioweapons programs and their facilities are also funded and steered by Germany’s Foreign Ministry and the German Armed Forces.

 

The ramifications of these findings are disturbing, as they indicate that NATO member involvement in Ukraine is much deeper than previously thought.

 

On March 31, 2022, during the plenary session of the Disarmament Conference in Geneva, UN Rep. Gatilov (image, left) demanded that all of these potentially dangerous biological research programs be investigated immediately.

 

After extensive research including numerous well-documented sources, it now appears that everyone’s suspicion may be true after all – that Ukraine had become a NATO outsourcing destination for biological weapons research and development.

 

By now, it has now been confirmed and demonstrated that US Department of Defense and its subsidiary, the DTRA, are funding offshore defense biological and scientific research projects under the guise of β€˜life sciencesβ€˜ research, development and training activities inside Ukraine. The evidence strongly suggests that these activities and programs related to countering and deterring biological weapons of mass destruction as well as β€œemerging biological threats” – are actually being used as vehicles for so-called β€œdual-use” life science and classified projects. In this case, the term β€˜dual use’ refers to the work and material pertaining to supposed biosafety research is completely interchangable with the development of internationally prohibited bioweapons. Because of the inherent ambiguity of the area of research, such programs and their facilities have proven to be impervious to any meaningful oversight or international inspection regime.

 

Furthermore, it is easy to understand the legal and regulatory burden associated with so-called β€˜Gain of Function’ (GOF) research in NATO countries, and therefore there is a temptation for unscrupulous individuals and organizations to export such risky projects to less strict regulatory environments, specifically destinations which rank high on the global corruption index, like Ukraine.

 

It is important to first take a closer look at the German-Ukraine relationship in order to better understand how deeply German interests are invested in Ukraine.

Project at a glance:

 

This project is a continuation of a cooperation between the Friedrich Loeffler Institute for Animal Health (FLI) and two Ukrainian institutes, the State Scientific Research Institute of Laboratory Diagnostics and Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise SSRILDVSE and Ukraine State Scientific Control Institute of Biotechnology and Strains of Microorganisms (SSCIBSM / DNKIBSHM) in Kiev, which are responsible in the field of veterinary diagnostics and handling of highly pathogenic biosecurity-relevant pathogens. The project is funded by the German Foreign Office under the German Biosafety Partnership Program and is in its third funding phase since the beginning of 2020.

 

Objectives:

 

The project aims to strengthen the capacity in partner countries to diagnose bacterial infections such as anthrax, brucellosis, and glanders, and viral infections such as African Swine Fever (ASF), and Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in animals.

 

Methods:

 

These overall objectives are addressed in three work packages, which are also represented by the three different institutes of the FLI (INNT/INEID, IVD and IBIZ), together with the two partner institutions in Ukraine ( SSCIBSM / DNKIBSHM)

The State Department’s β€˜state sponsor of terrorism’ list currently includes Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria. Sudan was taken off the list in late 2020 after it normalized relations with Israel. The β€˜terror’ listing bars all manner of US aid, and threatens countries doing business with the targeted nation with tough secondary sanctions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Joe Biden directly to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism during a recent telephone conversation with the US president, the Washington Post reports, citing persons said to be familiar with the matter.

Biden reportedly expressed willingness to β€˜explore a range of proposals’ to pressure Moscow, but did not offer a commitment either way on the β€˜state sponsor of terror’ idea.

Just four countries remain on the US β€˜terror’ listing today, with Iraq, Libya, the former South Yemen and Sudan removed from the listing between 1990 and 2020 over a range of pretexts.

The β€˜state sponsor of terrorism’ designation requires Washington to maintain a range of draconian measures against targeted nations, including export controls on so-called dual-use items – i.e. products which can be used in military applications or to β€œsupport terrorism.” It also bans all foreign aid and any duty-free preferences for imports, exclusion from visa waiver programmes, and secondary restrictions against nations that continue to do business with the affected country.

The designation also lifts diplomatic immunity on any frozen national wealth or property targeted nations have in the United States, deeming them fair game for seizure by the families of the victims of terrorism in US civil courts, regardless of whether the country in question had anything to do with an act of terror. In 2018, for example, a US judge ordered Iran to pay $6 billion to the victims of 9/11, notwithstanding the Islamic Republic’s decades-long battle against al-Qaeda,* and the fact that Tehran had nothing to do with the terror attacks.

WMU officer among 3 arrested in online sex solicitation sting

 

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says it has arrested three people, including a Western Michigan University public safety officer, for trying to solicit sex from a minor over the internet.

 

The suspects were identified as Aaron Bower-Guimond, 27, of Mattawan; Abraham Hohnke, 49, of Portage; and Nathan Ruzick, 26, of Mattawan. They have each been arraigned on a count of accosting a child for immoral purposes. Hohnke was also charged with using a computer to commit a crime. All of the charges are four-year felonies.

 

All three were arrested during an eight-hour period this week, Sheriff Richard Fuller said, though he didn’t say exactly when.

 

Hohnke was a WMU Department of Public Safety officer, the sheriff said. A WMU spokesperson told News 8 that as soon as campus police became aware of Hohnke’s arrest, he was suspended without pay and given notice that he would be fired β€œpending review,” as is required by his contract. He resigned Friday afternoon effective immediately.

 

Fuller said at a Friday afternoon news conference that the three men used the internet to try to solicit sex from a minor, but they were actually speaking with an undercover officer.

 

β€œThe operation … was essentially the same per person that was arrested in this: They start a conversation online in chat rooms with someone, a police officer, posing as a minor child,” Fuller said.

 

He said the sting targeted people β€œactively already seeking sex with a minor.”

Twitter has launched a poison pill takeover defence to fend off a $43bn hostile bid from billionaire Tesla chief executive Elon Musk.

 

In the first sign that the social media company plans to fight Musk’s bid, Twitter said on Friday that its board of directors had unanimously adopted a year-long shareholder rights plan to β€œenable all shareholders to realise the full value of their investment in Twitter”.

 

The board’s aggressive move, designed to block Musk from building a greater than 15 per cent stake in the open market, is likely to end the South African-born entrepreneur’s hopes of buying the social media company.

 

It comes as US private equity group Thoma Bravo has also expressed interest in taking Twitter private in what would be a rival bid to Musk’s, although sources said it was at a very preliminary stage and no offer has been made.

 

Thoma Bravo and Twitter both declined to comment.

 

Musk said this week that his offer was β€œbest and final” adding that β€œif it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder”. A person close to Musk said that he was not going to budge on that position.

 

Under Twitter’s plan, existing shareholders will be able to buy shares at a discount if anyone acquires more than 15 per cent without board approval, diluting an unwelcome bidder.

 

Musk offered $54.20 a share in cash for Twitter, valuing the company at $43.4bn, days after he took a 9 per cent stake in the company to become one of its largest shareholders.

 

Twitter’s board is concerned that if Musk built a stake worth more than 15 per cent he could indirectly wield significant power over the direction of the company even without an executive or directorship role.

 

The only way for him to take over Twitter now is through a mutually agreed deal, which would need to carry a significantly higher price, said a person close to the company’s board.

 

Poison pills were developed as a defence strategy in the 1980s to protect companies from corporate raiders, and were widely criticised as a way for a company’s managers to entrench themselves against attack. Subsequent legal challenges reduced some of their effectiveness, and most academic studies have shown that while poison pills slow an unwanted takeover bid, they do not usually prevent eventual agreement after a negotiation.

 

Twitter said the plan could reduce the likelihood that a hostile bidder β€œgains control of Twitter through open market accumulation without paying all shareholders an appropriate control premium”, as well as slow any bid.

 

β€œThe Rights Plan does not prevent the Board from engaging with parties or accepting an acquisition proposal if the Board believes that it is in the best interests of Twitter and its shareholders,” it added. The plan expires on April 23 2023, it said.

 

After his shareholding was announced last week, Musk reached a preliminary agreement with the company to join its board of directors, only to reverse course on Monday without explanation.

 

Musk then announced his offer on Thursday in a regulatory filing in which he said he would unlock the company’s potential to be β€œthe platform for free speech around the globe”.Β Included in the filing was the transcript of a message he sent to Twitter, which said: β€œIt’s a high price and your shareholders will love it.”

 

The offer represents a 38 per cent premium to Twitter’s share price since April 1, three days before his stake became public, although it is still 26 per cent below its 12-month high.

 

It is unclear how exactly Musk would fund the deal. In an interview after the announcement, Musk said he had β€œsufficient assets” to do so and intended to retain as many shareholders as possible. However, he conceded: β€œI’m not sure that I will actually be able to acquire it.”

The Failure Of Fiat Currencies & The Implications For Gold & Silver

This is the background text of my Keynote Speech given yesterday to European Gold Forum yesterday, 13 April.

 

To explain why fiat currencies are failing I started by defining money. I then described the relationship between fiat money and its purchasing power, the role of bank credit, and the interests of central banks.

 

Undoubtedly, the recent sanctions over Russia will have a catastrophic effect for financialised currencies, possibly leading to the end of fifty-one years of the dollar regime. Russia and China plan to escape this fate for the rouble and yuan by tying their currencies to commodities and production instead of collapsing financial assets. The only way for those of us in the West to protect ourselves is with physical gold, which over time is tied to commodity and energy prices.

 

What is money?

 

To understand why all fiat currency systems fail, we must start by understanding what money is, and how it differs from other forms of currency and credit. These are long-standing relationships which transcend our times and have their origin in Roman law and the practice of medieval merchants who evolved a lex mercatoria, which extended money’s legal status to instruments that evolved out of money, such as bills of exchange, cheques, and other securities for money. And while as circulating media, historically currencies have been almost indistinguishable from money proper, in the last century issuers of currencies split them off from money so that they have become pure fiat.

 

At the end of the day, what constitutes money has always been determined by its users as the means of exchanging their production for consumption in an economy based on the division of labour. Money is the bridge between the two, and while over the millennia different media of exchange have come and gone, only metallic money has survived to be trusted. These are principally gold, silver, and copper. Today the term usually refers to gold, which is still in government reserves, as the only asset with no counterparty risk. Silver, which as a monetary asset declined in importance as money after Germany moved to a gold standard following the Franco-Prussian war, remains a monetary metal, though with a gold to silver ratio currently over 70 times, it is not priced as such.

 

For historical reasons, the world’s monetary system evolved based on English law. Britain, or more accurately England and Wales, still respects Roman, or natural law with respect to money. To this day, gold sovereign coins are legal tender. Strictly speaking, metallic gold and silver are themselves credit, representing yet-to-be-spent production. But uniquely, they are no one’s liability, unlike banknotes and bank deposits. Metallic money therefore has this exceptional status, and that fact alone means that it tends not to circulate, in accordance with Gresham’s Law, so long as lesser forms of credit are available.

 

Money shares with its currency and credit substitutes a unique position in criminal law. If a thief steals money, he can be apprehended and charged with theft along with any accomplices. But if he passes the money on to another party who receives it in good faith and is not aware that it is stolen, the original owner has no recourse against the innocent receiver, or against anyone else who subsequently comes into possession of the money. It is quite unlike any other form of property, which despite passing into innocent hands, remains the property of the original owner.

 

In law, cryptocurrencies and the mooted central bank digital currencies are not money, money-substitutes, or currencies. Given that a previous owner of stolen bitcoin sold on to a buyer unaware it was criminally obtained can subsequently claim it, there is no clear title without full provenance. In accordance with property law, the United States has ruled that cryptocurrencies are property, reclaimable as stolen items, differentiating cryptocurrencies from money and currency proper. And we can expect similar rulings in other jurisdictions to exclude cryptocurrencies from the legal status as money, whereas the position of CBDCs in this regard has yet to be clarified. We can therefore nail to the floor any claims that bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency can possibly have the legal status required of money.

 

Under a proper gold standard, currency in the form of banknotes in public circulation was freely exchangeable for gold coin. So long as they were freely exchangeable, banknotes took on the exchange value of gold, allowing for the credit standing of the issuer….

For years, the UK has been using biometrics to identify school children, but now that facial recognition (FRT) software is becoming widely adopted, questions are being raised about ethical issues surrounding data and surveillance.

 

Companies say that the futuristic technology will radically improve productivity and efficiency during dinner times, but critics, including the UK’s snooping tsar, have come out strong against the use of facial recognition cameras in schools.

 

Professor Fraser Sampson, the independent Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner told the Mail on Sunday last weekend he recently found out β€œcompletely by accident” about the Department Of Education’s drafted plans on guidance on facial recognition cameras in schools across the country.Almost 70 schools have signed up for the system.

 

β€˜Intrusive Surveillance’

 

Experienced police head Sampson’s role is to encourage compliance with the surveillance camera code of practice. β€œThere is not really a recognition that this is intrusive surveillance, and it’s increasingly intrusive surveillance,” he said. β€œIf people think the use of facial recognition by the police is sensitive and controversial wait until schools start putting it in.

 

β€œYour starting point should be, β€˜Where is the lawful purpose of introducing this clearly intrusive type of technology into a school?’” he said. β€œHow does any of this fit with much wider government obligations on the U.N. convention on the rights of the child not to be subject to close scrutiny and have the freedom to sit in a classroom without being watched, let alone recorded?” said Sampson.

 

Pippa King, co-director of the children’s privacy rights organisation Defend Digital Me told The Epoch Times that her concern is that it’s β€œcompletely intrusive” and that β€œwe don’t know what the exact take-up of FRT is in schools right now.”

 

CRB Cunninghams is a major provider of FRT software, hardware, and services to education establishments throughout the UK, specialising in cashless, online payment, and identity management systems. It supplies also cashless catering, identity management, and online payment systems to over 3,300 UK education establishments.

 

In a webinar called Facial Recognition: An introduction to UK schools, CRB Cunninghams detailed how its system uses an algorithm that will constantly evolve to match the child’s growth and change in appearance.

 

β€˜Faster Than Fingerprint’

 

β€œIt’s the fastest way of recognising someone at the tillβ€”it’s faster than a card, it’s faster than fingerprint,” said David Swanston, the managing director of CRB Cunninghams, to The Financial Times. This was in response to the nine schools in North Ayrshire, Scotland, which had started taking payments for school lunches by scanning the faces of pupils.

 

However, North Ayrshire Council soon suspended the FRT system in response to pressure from the ICO, a non-departmental public body that upholds information rights in the public interests, and privacy advocates.

 

β€œWhat are we teaching kids? You have to use your face to buy a portion of chips for using your face,” said King, adding that it also β€œdesensitizes children to using biometrics.”

Who is Milton William Cooper

William Milton Cooper, author of "Behold a Pale Horse," was killed in a shootout with sheriff’s deputies in Eagar, Arizona today. Cooper was host of a talk show broadcast by Worldwide Christian Radio out of Nashville. He was well known in the UFO community for his radical view that there were a number of alien species present on earth, and that they were unspeakably evil.

 

He led a drive to identify Whitley Strieber as a CIA agent, and considered most conventional UFO researchers, including Stanton Friedman, Linda Moulton Howe and many others, to be agents of a conspiracy devoted to concealing the evil alien presence so that it could do its bidding on earth untroubled by human resistance.

 

He considered Art Bell a conspiratorial proponent of a new world order that he believed would destroy human freedom, and devoted many pages of his website to diatribes against Bell.

 

In defense of his claim that Strieber was a CIA operative, he produced a document that was allegedly written in 1981 that "activated" Strieber and a number of other individuals, including Richard Hoagland in a program called "Project Enable." Among other inaccuracies, the document identifies Dr. John Alexander as a major when he was, at the time of its writing, a Lieutenant Colonel. It makes reference to Project Stargate, but is dated in 1981, when the military remote viewing program was still called Project Grill Flame.

 

When deputies attempted to arrest Cooper this morning, a gun battle broke out. One Apache County deputy received two gunshots to the head. The deputy was in critical condition at a Phoenix hospital. Cooper, who had a handgun, was killed.

 

Cooper served with the Strategic Air command until 1965. He was also a naval officer. He was discharged from the Navy in 1975.

 

In March of 1999, Cooper sent his family out of the United States. He remained alone at his home in Arizona, where he was killed.

 

On the official William Cooper website, his family states that his death was apparently not related to his opposition to the federal government, but came as a result of a sheriff’s deputy’s attempt to serve a warrant in a local matter.

Twitter board approves 'poison pill' plan in desperate attempt to limit Elon Musk's stake in company

The company has adopted a "poison pill," which makes it difficult for Musk to increase his stake in the company past 15 percent. Currently, Musk owns just over 9 percent.

 

Following Elon Musk’s $43 billion takeover bid issued on Thursday morning, the board of directors at Twitter unanimously voted to approve a plan that could potentially limit how many shares the Tesla and SpaceX CEO could buy.

 

According to The Wall Street Journal, the company has adopted a "poison pill," which makes it difficult for Musk to increase his stake in the company past 15 percent. Currently, Musk owns just over 9 percent.

 

"Poison pills, also called shareholder-rights plans, are legal maneuvers that make it hard for shareholders to build their stakes beyond a set point by triggering an option for others to buy more shares at a discount. They are often used by companies that receive hostile takeover bids to buy themselves time to consider their options," The Wall Street Journal explained.

 

According to CNBC, this plan is set to expire on April 14, 2023.

 

"The Rights Plan will reduce the likelihood that any entity, person or group gains control of Twitter through open market accumulation without paying all shareholders an appropriate control premium or without providing the Board sufficient time to make informed judgments and take actions that are in the best interests of shareholders," the company said in a press release.

 

The company noted that this plan would not prevent the board from accepting an acquisition offer if the board approves it and deems it in the best interests of the company and its shareholders.

 

The placement of the plan follows weeks of news between the business magnate and the social media giant.

 

At the beginning of the month, it was announced that Musk had purchased more than 9 percent of a stake in the company. Shortly after, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal said that Musk would be joining the company’s board of directors.

 

On April 10 though, just days later, Agrawal announced that Musk would in fact not be joining the board of directors.

 

Then, just days later, Musk made the $43 billion unsolicited takeover bid, equating to $54.20 per share in cash.

 

Notably, Musk, who is a prominent and frequent user of the platform, has been silent since yesterday evening, after posting a screenshot of Goldman Sachs' Q4 review of Twitter, where it was given a 12-month sell price target of only $30.

 

His silence also came just after posting a poll asking users whether "Taking Twitter private at $54.20 should be up to shareholders, not the board."

7 Days Before Obama Gives Away Internet & National Security

In one week, President Obama will allow what remains of the United States' control over the Internet to pass to a California non-profit organization, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). This is a reckless and dangerous decision that has serious national security consequences that have not been fully considered.

 

Currently, ICANN has a contract with the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to manage the naming and numbering functions associated with the Internet. The most important of these is the assignment of Internet Protocol Addresses (IP Addresses) to domain names. This is called the IANA function Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. ICANN performs this function pursuant to its contract, then NTIA reviews the assignment, and authorizes Verisign to post the IP Address to the "A server" the authoritative root zone server that is the "master" file of all IP Addresses. This A server is replicated to all of the other root zone servers globally on a daily basis. This is how a domain name gets online.

Thus, the integrity of every IP Address for every domain name on the Internet is under U.S. control and stewardship. The NTIA contract with ICANN expires October 1, 2016. Even though it could be extended for any period through September 2019, upon expiration, President Obama has agreed to let the Department of Commerce hand full control over the IANA functions to ICANN, effectively ceding the last control that the U.S. has over the Internet to an ambitious non-profit organization that will have no ties to the U.S. Government.

 

To be fair, some people are very much in favor of the transfer. Some claim that getting the government out and transferring all authority to ICANN will help ensure a multi-stakeholder process to Internet governance and shared authority over the Internet. Others claim the transfer will help ensure freedom of expression because giving our control to ICANN will keep the Internet out of the hands of the UN and its International Telecommunications Union (ITU), where Russia and China have been grasping for it. These governance issues, however, have overshadowed the national security considerations and proper attention has not been given to the importance of our control over the IANA function. We don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Solutions can be designed to meet legitimate concerns of users and nation states, while preserving national security interests.
