Abstract

Background and Aim:

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) public health policy has focused on the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus and its effects on human health while environmental factors have been largely ignored. In considering the epidemiological triad (agent-host-environment) applicable to all disease, we investigated a possible environmental factor in the COVID-19 pandemic: ambient radiofrequency radiation from wireless communication systems including microwaves and millimeter waves. SARS-CoV-2, the virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic, surfaced in Wuhan, China shortly after the implementation of city-wide (fifth generation [5G] of wireless communications radiation [WCR]), and rapidly spread globally, initially demonstrating a statistical correlation to international communities with recently established 5G networks. In this study, we examined the peer-reviewed scientific literature on the detrimental bioeffects of WCR and identified several mechanisms by which WCR may have contributed to the COVID-19 pandemic as a toxic environmental cofactor. By crossing boundaries between the disciplines of biophysics and pathophysiology, we present evidence that WCR may: (1) cause morphologic changes in erythrocytes including echinocyte and rouleaux formation that can contribute to hypercoagulation; (2) impair microcirculation and reduce erythrocyte and hemoglobin levels exacerbating hypoxia; (3) amplify immune system dysfunction, including immunosuppression, autoimmunity, and hyperinflammation; (4) increase cellular oxidative stress and the production of free radicals resulting in vascular injury and organ damage; (5) increase intracellular Ca2+ essential for viral entry, replication, and release, in addition to promoting pro-inflammatory pathways; and (6) worsen heart arrhythmias and cardiac disorders.

Conclusion

There is a substantial overlap in pathobiology between COVID-19 and WCR exposure. The evidence presented here indicates that mechanisms involved in the clinical progression of COVID-19 could also be generated, according to experimental data, by WCR exposure. WCR exposure is a widespread, yet often neglected, environmental stressor that can produce a wide range of adverse bioeffects. For decades, independent research scientists worldwide have emphasized the health risks and cumulative damage caused by WCR [42,45]. The evidence presented here is consistent with a large body of established research. Healthcare workers and policymakers should consider WCR a potentially toxic environmental stressor. Methods for reducing WCR exposure should be provided to all patients and the general population.

A freshman student from Washington State University (WSU) was found dead in his dorm room on Sunday, Jan. 22.

 

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, a male student was found dead in his dorm room at Perham Hall on the Pullman campus, according to WSU police Assistant Chief Dawn Daniels.

The student was later identified by the Whitman County Coroner’s Office as 19-year-old Luke Morgan Tyler.

 

Chief Gary Jenkins of the WSU Police Department stated it would be premature to speculate on the cause of death until the investigation is completed.

According to the police, there is no evidence of foul play involved in Tyler’s death.

 

According to Jenkins, the WSU Police Department is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s death in coordination with the Whitman County Coroner.

 

“It’s worth mentioning that there has been a significant amount of conjecture regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident and the actual cause of the student’s passing. I would caution the public against speculation at this point in the investigation,” said Phil Weiler, Vice President at Washington State University.

 

“The facts in this case are still being gathered. It could be several weeks before the coroner’s office determines the cause and manner of death. We want to ensure that the investigation can proceed unimpeded,” Weiler continued.

 

According to Spokesman, nearly 8,000 people had signed a petition created by Tyler’s friends on Wednesday evening, demanding that Tyler’s fraternity, Theta Chi, be investigated in connection with his death.

Babesia microti

Friday Hope: Nicotinamide Riboside: A Compound Which Facilitates DNA Damage (Mistranslation) Repair

 

A Potential Powerful Therapeutic for COVID, Long COVID and Spike Protein Progeria Disease

 

While studying the pathology of the Spike Protein, I am equally committed to studying ways to combat the damage it is almost certainly causing. As readers of my Substack know, I now believe that COVID, Long COVID and what I call Spike Protein Progeria Disease (SPPD) is caused be the Spike Protein’s ability to induce mistranslations of proteins. Please see my previous posts for an explanation of the mechanism and supporting papers.

 

I believe a very powerful therapeutic against this mistranslation damage is Nicotinamide Riboside. So, first, what is Nicotinamide Riboside?

 

Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is an additional salvageable NAD+ precursor with a two-step or three-step pathway to form NAD+. Nicotinamide riboside (NR) has recently become one of the most studied nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) precursors, due to its numerous potential health benefits mediated via elevated NAD+ content in the body. NAD+ is an essential coenzyme that plays important roles in various metabolic pathways and increasing its overall content has been confirmed as a valuable strategy for treating a wide variety of pathophysiological conditions. Accumulating evidence on NRs’ health benefits has validated its efficiency across numerous animal and human studies for the treatment of a number of cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and metabolic disorders.

Why I believe this compound is important in the treatment of COVID, Long COVID and SPPD, is because it addresses the very kind of damage I believe the evidence shows the Spike Protein is causing.

 

Instead, compounds and interventions that have the capacity to reduce DNA damage accumulation at its core are the ones that will be identified using DNA repair-deficient models. This is likely reflected in the positive effects noted by two different NAD+ precursors, NA and NR. NAD+ has shown to decline with age and its supplementation has shown promising results both in normal and accelerated aging and in (segmental) aging disorders of post-mitotic tissues (Xie et al., 2020; Imai and Guarente, 2014; Scheibye-Knudsen et al., 2014; Abdellatif et al., 2021a; Maynard et al., 2015). NAD+ is central for cellular processes such as metabolism and mitochondrial function, but also acts as a substrate for cAPD-ribose synthases (CD38), sirtuin deacetylases and poly-ADP-ribose polymerases (PARPs), a DNA damage sensors which is critical to various DNA repair processes and a trigger for apoptosis (Xie et al., 2020). Thus, it remains a possibility, that even though the mice are genetically deficient in TCR that NAD+ supplementation boosts complimentary alternative PARP-mediated DNA repair processes or influences signals triggered by DNA damage.

 

NA and NR follow different pathways of being synthesized into NAD, and their oral bioavailability is likely to differ (Trammell et al., 2016; Mehmel et al., 2020). Furthermore, the subcellular uptake of the distinct NAD+ precursors across tissues might differ with flux analysis showing, e.g., that NA is unlikely to be used in the brain but rather in spleen, intestine, pancreas and liver (Liu et al., 2018; Xie et al., 2020; Hikosaka et al., 2021). This could explain the difference we noted in our results; whereas NA specifically delayed the onset of imbalance, NR significantly extended lifespan, beyond the maximum age reached by any of the other drugs tested (Figure 4).

 

Together, our results show that progeroid mouse models can be used as efficient, economical, and relatively rapid screening platforms for validation of drugs or interventions that target DNA damage accumulation and/or benefit insufficient DNA repair.

The general noted that a separate project researching ixodid ticks who transmit multiple particularly dangerous infections (tularemia, West Nile fever, Crimean-Congo fever) was implemented by specialists from the University of Texas.

 

According to the military official, ticks were collected primarily in Ukraine’s south-eastern regions where natural hotspots of infections, typical for the Russian Federation, are located. That said, this research coincided with a rapid rise in the incidence of Lyme disease among the Ukrainian population as well as the increased number of ticks in several Russian regions bordering Ukraine.

 

This issue is being studied by relevant Russian experts jointly with the Russian Defense Ministry’s specialists, the general added."

BOSTON (AP) — When U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss decided to deliver a speech on a bill that would create a U.S.-Israel artificial intelligence center, he opted to let the AI do the talking.

 

The brief two-paragragh speech read by the Massachusetts Democrat on the floor of the U.S. House on Wednesday was generated by the online AI chatbot ChatGPT. His staff said they believe it’s the first time an AI-written speech was read in Congress.

 

Auchincloss said he prompted the system in part to “write 100 words to deliver on the floor of the House of Representatives” about the legislation. Auchincloss said he had to refine the prompt several times to produce the text he ultimately read.

 

The bill, which Auchincloss is refiling, would establish a joint U.S.-Israel AI Center in the United States to serve as a hub for AI research and development in the public, private and education sectors.

 

Auchincloss said part of the decision to read a ChatGPT-generated text was to help spur debate on AI and the challenges and opportunities created by it. He said he doesn’t want to see a repeat of the advent of social media, which started small and ballooned faster than Congress could react.

 

“I’m the youngest parent in the Democratic caucus, AI is going to be part of my life and it could be a general purpose technology for my children,” said Auchincloss, 34.

 

The release of ChatGPT and other AI programs available on the internet is already posing a challenge for teachers who must now grapple with the possibility of students handing in AI-generated essays.

 

Researchers also worry AI chatbots could help turbocharge efforts to spread misinformation and propaganda.

 

OpenAI, the nonprofit that created ChatGPT, has acknowledged on its website that ChatGPT “can occasionally produce incorrect answers” and that its responses will sometimes be misleading as a result of how it learns. It recommends users check whether responses are accurate or not,

 

The text generated from Auchincloss’s prompt includes sentences like: “We must collaborate with international partners like the Israeli government to ensure that the United States maintains a leadership role in AI research and development and responsibly explores the many possibilities evolving technologies provide.”

 

“There were probably about a dozen of my colleagues on the floor. I bet none of them knew it was written by a computer,” he said.

 

Lawmakers and others shouldn’t be reflexively hostile to the new technology, but also shouldn’t wait too long before drafting policies or new laws to help regulate it, Auchincloss said.

 

In particular, he argued that the country needs a “public counterweight” to the big tech firms that would help guarantee that smaller developers and universities have access to the same cloud computing, cutting edge algorithms and raw data as larger companies.

The US House of Representatives has ordered an investigation into whether the Department of Defense experimented with ticks and other insects as biological weapons.

 

In an amendment passed last week, the House calls for the Defense Department’s Inspector General to look at whether any such experiments were done between the years 1950 and 1975.

 

The amendment was introduced by New Jersey Rep. Chris Smith who said he was inspired to write it by “a number of books and articles suggesting that significant research had been done at US government facilities including Fort Detrick, Maryland, and Plum Island, New York, to turn ticks and other insects into bioweapons.

 

“If true, what were the parameters of the program? Who ordered it?” Smith said during a debate for the amendment. “Was there any accidental release anywhere or at any time of any of the diseased ticks?”

The most common disease spread by ticks is Lyme disease, which can cause multiple symptoms including fever, muscle aches, joint pain, rash and facial paralysis. If left untreated, it could lead to arthritis, nervous system problems and heart problems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 

Each year, nearly 30,000 cases of Lyme Disease are reported to the CDC, which also says that more than 300,000 people are diagnosed with the disease each year. In 2017, a total of 42,743 confirmed and probable cases of Lyme Disease were reported to the CDC, 17% more than in 2016, according to the agency.

 

If the Pentagon’s investigation finds that the Defense department weaponized Lyme disease in ticks, the amendment calls for a report on the scope of the experiment and whether the insects used were “released outside of any laboratory by accident or experiment design.”

 

During the amendment’s debate, Smith said Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases were “exploding” in the US and that “Americans have a right to know whether any of this is true.”

 

According to his website, Smith has also authored the TICK Act, which would create a holistic government strategy to fight Lyme disease and authorize $180 million to boost funding for research, prevention and treatment of the disease."

Elon Musk Reportedly Being Investigated by US Regulators Over Tesla Self-Driving Car Claims

 

US regulators from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are investigating possibly misleading claims Tesla founder and owner Elon Musk may have made about the company's revolutionary new Autopilot driving system, US media reports said on Friday.

The SEC is conducting a comprehensive probe into the Autopilot system, Bloomberg News reported.

According to the outlet, SEC officials have yet to decide whether they believe Musk made inappropriately optimistic statements about the prospects for developing the Autopilot system that would have boosted the company's stock value.

If the SEC was to conclude Musk made seriously misleading claims with financial consequences, he and/or his company could face potentially significant lawsuits, government fines or other penalties, Bloomberg said.

The probe comes as Tesla is also about to face a jury trial to decide whether it is liable in a case where an Autopilot-directed car caused a fatal accident, killing a human driver.

Additionally, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched two probes into whether Autopilot is safe and reliable or has serious flaws.

Musk Meets With Biden Officials Over Inflation Reduction Act

Gunman attacks embassy in Iran

 

A security chief was reportedly killed at Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission in Tehran

 

A gunman armed with an assault rifle opened fire on a security post at the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, the Foreign Ministry in Baku has reported. The embassy security chief was killed while two guards were injured in the incident on Friday morning.

 

The ministry described the condition of the survivors as “satisfactory” and pledged to provide additional information as the investigation into the “treacherous attack” progresses.

 

Images purporting to show the aftermath of the incident, circulating on social media, include a graphic photo of a body covered by a sheet lying on a bloodied floor. The same body without the cover was also filmed in a short video clip.

 

More footage shot in front of the embassy shows police cars and a man apparently being treated for an arm injury.

 

The gunman was arrested immediately after the incident, Tehran's chief of police, Sardar Hossein Rahimi, told Iranian media. He said the shooter had come to the embassy with his two young children and that police believed the attack was motivated by a personal grievance.

 

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed “shock” following the news. “We offer our condolences and support to the Azerbaijani colleagues,” spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on social media.

 

She also praised an embassy guard who “fought like a lion” to seize the perpetrator’s firearm during the incident. Footage captured by a CCTV camera at the entrance of the building was published later in the day.

Memphis releases video footage of police altercation with Tyre Nichols

Memphis authorities braced for riots ahead of the footage's release and asked for outraged viewers to remain peaceful.

 

The City of Memphis on Friday released video footage on the police altercation with Tyre Nichols that resulted in his death.

 

The city aired the video in four parts on Vimeo.

 

Each includes footage from a different source. Video 1 depicts appears to show officers forcefully removing Nichols from the car. They repeatedly tell him to "get on the ground" to which he repeatedly voices his acquiescence. Nichols then appears to wrest himself free of multiple officers and runs down the street. The officer then returns to the stopped cars.

 

Video 2 includes poll camera footage, lacking audio. The camera pans from an empty street to then show officers appearing to restraining Nichols at a second location. After doing so, several officers appear to either kick or hit him while others keep him restrained. They subsequently dog-pile on him, at which point more officers arrive at the scene.

Interview: U.S. bioweapon lab suspected of source of lyme disease: expert

 

GENEVA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) – A U.S. government bioweapons lab, inspired by a Nazi bioweapons expert and with a mission to poison cattle in the Soviet Union, is believed to be the source of the lyme disease, said a university professor and a long-time investigative journalist in a recent interview with Xinhua.

 

Karl Grossman, a full-time professor of journalism at the State University of New York, has spent five decades investigating a U.S. government laboratory on Plum Island, known as the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, which is located about one mile (about 1609 meters) off Long Island of New York.

 

For Grossman, this laboratory is "shrouded in secrecy."

 

"I wish, there would be 'transparency.' That's the word that has been used for decades in the U.S., so that people would know what their government has done," he said.

 

"I am hopeful, but I am kind of doubt it, considering the decades and decades of secrecy involving the Plum Island," he added.

 

The "godfather" of the Plum Island laboratory was a Nazi bioweapon expert, Erich Traub, who was brought to the United States after the Second World War.

 

"During the WWII, Traub ran a Nazi secret biological warfare laboratory in the Baltic on an island called Riems, with a mission to poison cattle in the Soviet Union. Also, Traub had some familiarity with the New York area before the WWII. He was also involved in Nazi activities on the Long Island," Grossman noted.

 

"This Erich Traub maybe thought he had a smart idea having an animal biological warfare lab like he had in the Baltic to be established on this little island," he said.

 

"There was a military base on the island at that time for over 50 years, which was called Fort Terry. Thus this notion was to make this laboratory to do biological warfare," he said, noting the lab was later taken over by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

 

"In 1993, an investigative reporter for Newsday, John McDonald, was able to obtain documents including a document which was reprinted on the front page of Newsday," he said.

 

"This document said the mission of Plum Island would in fact to develop biological warfare weaponry that would be used to poison cattle and other livestock in the former Soviet Union," he added.

 

Grossman was the first journalist who exposed the U.S. government's admission to doing biological warfare work on Plum Island in 1971.

 

"The USDA decided to open Plum Island to reporters for a tour. The public relations person for the USDA told me the night before the tour, 'we do defensive biological warfare'. 'Defensive'! This is the first time there was ever the admission that they do biological warfare at all," he said.

 

The U.S. mission on Plum Island shifted away in the 1950s from bioweapons work directed at cattle in the Soviet Union.

 

Still, a pathogen worked with on Plum Island was linked years later to U.S. offensive use in biological warfare directed at animals in Cuba.

 

"Newsday, a newspaper on Long Island, reported in 1977 about African Swine Fever having broken out in Cuba in 1971, which was devastating to the pigs in Cuba, and connected the breakout of the African Swine Fever in Cuba to Plum Island," Grossman said.

 

"The only place African Swine Fever virus existed in the Western Hemisphere was on Plum Island where it was experimented upon. The Newsday account connected this African Swine Fever outbreak in Cuba with Plum Island, and with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and with a CIA operation in the Canal Zone, Panama," he said.

 

"What it would indicate, if correct, was that this strictly 'defensive' use of biological warfare done on Plum Island might not all be true, there may have been offensive biological warfare activities going on," he added."…..(continued)

Great white shark decapitates diver in first fatal attack of 2023: report

 

A 19-foot-long great white shark decapitated a diver early this month as he harvested shellfish off the coast of Mexico, reportedly marking the first fatal shark attack of the year.

 

The horrific tragedy occurred Jan. 5 while Manuel Lopez, 53, was gathering ax tripe — a type of mollusk — off Benito Juárez in Sonora, on the west coast of Mexico, Tracking Sharks reported. He was said to have been diving from the town of Paredón Colorado to the ocean floor without an oxygen tank to nab the critters, which typically reside at depths of 36 to 59 feet.

 

Lopez’s shellfishing expedition was cut short when the shark bit his head clean off, according to Tracking Sharks.

 

“He was diving when the animal attacked him, impressively ripping off his head and biting both shoulders,” eyewitness Jose Bernal told the outlet.

"However, famines may not be the only product of Plum Island and some of the pathogens it has been experimenting on can cross over to humans.

 

Grossman said that a 2007 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) exposed some of the pathogens on Plum Island "could also cause illness and deaths in humans."

 

According to a 2005 report by the GAO, the Plum Island experimented with pathogens that can potentially cause fatal diseases in humans, including West Nile virus, Nipah virus, Rift Valley Fever.

 

Plum Island is also suspected to start the global epidemic of Lyme disease, a disease transmitted through tick bites, and can result in chronic suffering if untreated.

 

"John Loftus is an attorney, he was a specialist at pursuing Nazis for the Office of the Special Investigations of the U.S. Department of Justice, and he tells in his 1982 book about Nazi germ warfare scientists experimenting with poisoned ticks dropped from planes. He suggests in the book the hypothesis that the poisoned ticks were the source of Lyme disease," Grossman said, adding that ticks have long been regarded as a disease vector in biological warfare.

 

Grossman added Kris Newby, an "excellent science writer connected to Stanford University," wrote a book in 2019 featuring interviews with Willy Burgdorfer, who is credited with the discovery of the microbe causing Lyme disease, and the book exposed that Burgdorfer had earlier "developed bioweapons for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)."

 

In 2019, the U.S. Congress passed an amendment requiring the Inspector General of the DOD to investigate the "possible involvement of DOD biowarfare labs in the weaponization of Lyme disease in ticks and other insects."

 

The amendment was offered by Representative Chris Smith from New Jersey who said, "those interviews combined with access to Dr. Burgdorfer's lab files suggest that he and other bioweapons specialists stuffed ticks with pathogens to cause severe disability, disease-even death-to potential enemies. Americans have a right to know whether any of this is true."

 

Grossman recalled from his three past visits to Plum Island that the place was "scary."

In his quest for power, this week, pencil-necked Rep. Adam Schiff announced a bid for the Senate seat currently held by Dianne Feinstein, before she has even announced her retirement.

 

In a hilarious turn of events, he was hit with an ethics complaint just one day later.

 

Schiff used video footage of himself going after Trump on the Senate floor, but the video is considered a government video and not his to use.

 

The Washington Examiner reports:

 

“In the present case, Rep. Schiff is clearly using official government video for campaign purposes in violation of federal law and the House ethics rules,” the group wrote in a letter to the Ethics Office on Friday. “The Office of Congressional Ethics is responsible for ensuring each Representative fulfills the public trust inherent in the office and that they comply with the House’s ethical standards. Therefore, we urge the Board to immediately investigate whether Representative Schiff used official resources for campaign purposes in violation of the House ethics rules.”

 

In his campaign announcement, Schiff used video of him speaking on the Senate floor during Trump’s impeachment proceedings. Ethics rules prohibit members from using government resources in their campaign materials, which include photographs or videos taken from inside the House or Senate.

 

Some journalists on social media have speculated that because Schiff used video from news outlets, it may be used as a “workaround” to bypass House rules. However, members of the nonprofit foundation argued the House ethics rules extend to “third-party” sources.

 

“The law is broad — not only is a Member directly prohibited from using the video, but the Member cannot repost from other sources or use video obtained from news outlets,” the group wrote. “This is an important rule because it not only protects taxpayer-funded resources from abuse, but it also protects the integrity of official proceedings by reducing the incentive for Members to make political speeches during official proceedings.”

 

It’s not yet clear whether the Office of Congressional Ethics will open an investigation into the complaint, and a spokesperson for the office has not yet responded to a request for comment by the Washington Examiner.

 

Schiff is running to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), setting the stage for what could be a contentious primary after Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) announced a campaign, and several other Democrats are reportedly mulling a bid as well. Feinstein has not yet indicated whether she’ll run for reelection, but the 89-year-old is expected to announce her retirement in the coming months.

Rebates and tax credits are available to encourage that shift.

 

Landrieu oversees federal spending on infrastructure, which included financial help for the electric vehicle industry. Podesta is the president’s point man on spending on Biden’s climate and clean energy initiatives.

 

Asked whether the meeting signaled a new phase in White House relations with Musk, Jean-Pierre said it “says a lot” about how Biden sees the importance of both pieces of legislation.

 

“I think it’s important that his team, senior members of his team, had a meeting with Elon Musk,” she said.

Removing the Viral Threat: Two Months to Stop Pandemic X from Taking Hold(2017)

DARPA aims to develop an integrated end-to-end platform that uses nucleic acid sequences to halt the spread of viral infections in sixty days or less

Over the past several years, DARPA-funded researchers have pioneered RNA vaccine technology, a medical countermeasure against infectious diseases that uses coded genetic constructs to stimulate production of viral proteins in the body, which in turn can trigger a protective antibody response. As a follow-on effort, DARPA funded research into genetic constructs that can directly stimulate production of antibodies in the body.1,2 DARPA is now launching the Pandemic Prevention Platform (P3) program, aimed at developing that foundational work into an entire system capable of halting the spread of any viral disease outbreak before it can escalate to pandemic status. Such a capability would offer a stark contrast to the state of the art for developing and deploying traditional vaccines—a process that does not deliver treatments to patients until months, years, or even decades after a viral threat emerges.

 

“DARPA’s goal is to create a technology platform that can place a protective treatment into health providers’ hands within 60 days of a pathogen being identified, and have that treatment induce protection in patients within three days of administration. We need to be able to move at this speed considering how quickly outbreaks can get out of control,” said Matt Hepburn, the P3 Program Manager. “The technology needs to work on any viral disease, whether it’s one humans have faced before or not.”

 

Recent outbreaks of viral infectious diseases such as Zika, H1N1 influenza, and Ebola have cast into sharp relief the inability of the global health system to rapidly contain the spread of a disease using existing tools and procedures. State-of-the-art medical countermeasures typically take many months or even years to develop, produce, distribute, and administer. These solutions often arrive too late—if at all—and in quantities too small to respond to emerging threats. In contrast, the envisioned P3 platform would cut response time to weeks and stay within the window of relevance for containing an outbreak.

 

Key to this undertaking are nucleic-acid-based technologies—those that are centered on DNA and RNA—including some developed under DARPA’s Autonomous Diagnostics to Enable Prevention and Therapeutics (ADEPT) program. Using these tools, scientists can identify protective antibodies from recovering patients and then, through a biological version of reverse engineering, manufacture genetic constructs that, when delivered, can instruct an individual’s body to produce similar protective antibodies. Significant quantities of these nucleic acid “blueprints” can be rapidly manufactured compared to state-of-the-art antibody production methods.

 

What is required now are breakthroughs in three other technology areas to bridge those past DARPA achievements and overcome the remaining bottlenecks that hinder rapid response to pandemic threats. The P3 program will pursue innovations in those three areas:

 

Growing virus needed to support evaluation of therapies in laboratory tests;

Subjecting antibodies to rapid rounds of evolution outside of the body to increase their potency beyond that of even the most effective antibodies obtained from infected patients; and

Developing means of efficiently delivering nucleic-acid-based protective treatments, since the technologies used to administer conventional vaccines do not readily translate.

Achieving and integrating breakthroughs in all of these areas will require choreographed cooperation among researchers and engineers specializing in such areas as immunology, microbiology, virology, medical infectious diseases, molecular biology, and medical countermeasure product development and manufacturing.

 

DARPA-funded teams will be required to demonstrate their integrated platforms in five simulations during the planned four-year program; they will initially test their platforms using pathogens of their choice, but ultimately they will test using DARPA-selected pathogens, including two demonstrations in which the identity of the pathogen will remain opaque to the teams until the 60-day clock starts. To ensure the developed platforms can produce a quality product with a viable pathway for regulatory review, each team will be required to complete a Phase I clinical safety trial before the end of the program.

A benefit of the nucleic-acid-based approach to limiting the spread of infection is that the genetic constructs introduced to the body would be processed quickly and would not integrate into an individual’s genome. Similarly, the antibodies produced in response to the treatment would only be present in the body for weeks to months. This is consistent with DARPA's intent with P3, which is to safely deliver transient immunity to a virus, halting the spread of disease by creating a firewall.

 

“Our country asks our military Service members to deploy globally and provide humanitarian assistance in all manner of high-risk environments. We owe it to them to develop the best protections possible,” said Hepburn, a U.S. Army physician who previously served as Director of Medical Preparedness on the White House National Security Staff. “If we’re successful, DARPA could take viral infectious disease outbreaks off the table as a threat to U.S. troops and as a driver of global instability.”

lowers the criminal intent standard—from willful to knowing or reckless—to convict a law enforcement officer for misconduct in a federal prosecution,

Judicial Watch Lawsuit Forces Release of Records on Raid of Project Veritas’s O’Keefe’s Home

 

Journalist group, Project Veritas, investigates corruption and dishonesty in public and private institutions. James O’Keefe is CEO and Chairman of the Board.

 

He and the organization apparently stepped on some highly sensitive toes in Washington, and Washington reacted with an abusive raid of his home.

 

We received 11 pages of heavily redacted records from the U.S Department of Justice concerning communications of The New York Times to officials in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), showing the Times was tipped off about the November 6, 2021, FBI raids on the homes of Project Veritas founder/CEO James O’Keefe and then-Project Veritas journalists.

 

Seven pages of records are redacted in large part and three pages are withheld entirely, which the agency claims are “not part of the responsive record.”

 

The records were produced in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit we filed in September 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after the agency failed to respond to a March 29, 2022, FOIA request (Judicial Watch, Inc. v. U.S. Department of Justice (No.1:22-cv-02652)).

 

Our lawsuit seeks all records of government and non-government communications between officials in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York and representatives of the New York Times regarding Project Veritas, James O’Keefe, Ashley Biden and others.

 

The records reveal that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York was in contact with New York Times reporters, including William K. Rashbaum (referred to in the email chains as “Willy”) and Ben Protess, before, during, and after the raids on the homes of O’Keefe and then-Project Veritas reporters.

 

The records include a November 4, 2021, email chain labeled “Search in Mamaroneck re [redacted] diary?”, from James Margolin, former Chief Public Information Officer of SDNY to Nicholas Biase, former senior public affairs officer for SDNY, and an individual whose name is redacted. Margolin states that “Willy” from the Times has information about the search warrants and investigation seemingly about Ashley Biden’s diary:

 

Willy Rashbaum from the Times just called and says they know or believe that a search warrant is being conducted in Mamaroneck this morning at a location that is either the residence of Eric Cochrane (sp?) — who may or may not be a whistle-blower — or a Project Veritas office. He believes this is in connection with a Florida investigation into whether Project Veritas stole, or purchased a stolen, diary belonging to [redacted].

 

Margolin later includes redacted details about “two searches” regarding the homes of James O’Keefe and then-Project Veritas journalist Spencer Meads.

 

Margolin later states: “Times now believes it’s not ‘a Florida investigation’ but an SDNY investigation, ‘and it involves more than just the diary’ (no elaboration on that).”

 

In a November 6, 2021, email with the subject line ““Re: O’Keefe (arrest?)” from Margolin to Biase and others, Margolin states, “The Times hears O’Keefe was arrested this morning.” The rest of the body of the email is redacted as “not part of the responsive record.”

 

In response, Biase thanks Margolin and writes: “The Times has his neighbor on record (who they suspect may not be entirely truthful) saying that FBI were banging on O’Keefe’s door with guns (or at least one agent with a gun) drawn.”

 

On November 24, 2021, Margolin emails a redacted individual and Biase with the subject line “Veritas,” stating that “Willy” (William K. Rashbaum of Times) informed Margolin the Times was doing another story about Project Veritas, and “they’re pretty certain subpoenas went to [redacted].” Margolin explains that Willy asked him for “a wave-off if” the information was wrong, adding “I [Margolin] made no promises.”

 

Biase writes on November 30, 2021, in the heavily redacted email chain that Biase had spoken with NYT reporters“Willy” and Ben Protess, and “neither mentioned it. Maybe Jim?” The rest of the body of the email is redacted as “not part of the responsive record.”

 

The New York Times was obviously tipped off about the unprecedented raid on the home of James O’Keefe and other Project Veritas journalists. And these new Justice Department records raise more questions than answers about how that happened.

White House and European Commission to launch first-of-its-kind AI agreement

The White House and European Commission will announce on Friday an agreement to speed up and enhance the use of artificial intelligence to improve agriculture, healthcare, emergency response, climate forecasting and the electric grid.

A senior us administration official, discussing the initiative shortly before the official announcement, called it the first sweeping AI agreement between the United States and Europe. Previously, agreements on the issue had been limited to specific areas such as enhancing privacy, the official said.

 

AI modeling, which refers to machine-learning algorithms that use data to make logical decisions, could be used to improve the speed and efficiency of government operations and services.

 

"The magic here is in building joint models [while] leaving data where it is," the senior administration official said. "The us data stays in the us and European data stays there, but we can build a model that talks to the European and the us data because the more data and the more diverse data, the better the model."

 

The initiative will give governments greater access to more detailed and data-rich AI models, leading to more efficient emergency responses and electric grid management, and other benefits, the administration official said.

 

Pointing to the electric grid, the official said the us collects data on how electricity is being used, where it is generated, and how to balance the grid's load so that weather changes do not knock it offline.

 

Many European countries have similar data points they gather relating to their own grids, the official said. Under the new partnership all of that data would be harnessed into a common AI model that would produce better results for emergency managers, grid operators and others relying on AI to improve systems.

 

The partnership is currently between just the White House and the European Commission, the executive arm of the 27-member European Union. The senior administration official said other countries will be invited to join in the coming months.

I've had the thing they call "Morgellons." The condition itself is an unknown fungal pathogen, and presents and treats as a typical dimorphic fungal infection. I spent over a decade figuring that out, and have helped thousands treat themselves at this point.

"MPD eventually decided on a mix of all three configurations: pole cameras, cameras attached to buildings, and mobile trailers are all employed at designated spots. So far, the police department has established a network of about 600 of Hikvision’s analog and IP bullet and dome PTZ cameras throughout the city. Building exteriors, for example, are often outfitted with a 3 MP outdoor bullet camera with a body type that allows for easy mounting to building exteriors. Aside from wide dynamic range that extends the light range that the camera can capture, this camera also offers line crossing and intrusion detection features to make surveillance more effective. These features can send alerts to the police when someone enters or leaves a designated area.

 

The footage from these cameras, which are placed at strategic points around Memphis, flows back to the MPD Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). The RTCC is used to enhance security for city assets and infrastructure and has become a sophisticated way for the city to fight crime. It features a large video wall that can pull up live streams from surveillance cameras that have been deployed throughout the city, as well as unique software that provides instant information on recent criminal activity in a radius around a crime, existing crime patterns in the surrounding area, and a history of people with arrest records who may frequent the neighborhood.

 

“We have a video wall with dozens of monitors and we can pull up any police camera feed in the city,” said Sergeant Joseph Patty, who has succeeded Shackleford as the video surveillance manager for MPD. He and Director of Police Services Toney Armstrong have driven MPD’s technology program as it continues to evolve. “We have about 30 workstations out on the floor that can view the video wall or pull up any camera feed.”

Mumps is a viral disease caused by the mumps virus. Outside of the salivary glands, inflammation of the testes, called orchitis, is the most common symptom infection. Pain, swelling, and warmness of a testis appear usually 1–2 weeks[13] after the onset of parotitis but can occur up to six weeks later. During mumps orchitis, the scrotum is tender and inflamed. A variety of other inflammatory conditions may also occur as a result of mumps virus infection, including:[6]

Mastitis, inflammation of the breasts, in up to about 30% of post-pubertal women[14]

Oophoritis, inflammation of an ovary, in 5–10% of post-pubertal women, which usually presents as pelvic pain

Aseptic meningitis, inflammation of the meninges, in 5–10% of cases[15] and 4–6% of those with parotitis, typically occurring 4–10 days after the onset of symptoms. Mumps meningitis can also occur up to one week before parotitis as well as in the absence of parotitis. It is commonly accompanied by fever, headache, vomiting, and neck stiffness.[16]

A relatively common complication is deafness, which occurs in about 4% of cases.[10] Mumps deafness is often accompanied by vestibular symptoms such as vertigo and repetitive, uncontrolled eye movements. Based on electrocardiographic abnormalities in the infected, MuV also likely infects cardiac tissue, but this is usually asymptomatic. Rarely, myocarditis and pericarditis can occur. Fluid buildup in the brain, called hydrocephalus, has also been observed.[6][16] In the first trimester of pregnancy, mumps may increase the risk of miscarriage. Otherwise, mumps is not associated with birth defects.[12][14]

Since 2010, the City of Memphis has spent more than $10 million buying and installing more than 2,100 cameras and related technologies throughout the city.

 

A main purpose of the cameras — with their large white metal boxes adorned with flashing blue lights, placed high and overt on light poles and buildings — was their visibility and deterrent effect.

 

An investigation by The Daily Memphian found problems with the ubiquitous cameras:

 

The cameras’ deterrent effect is questionable, as violent crime rates in Memphis have risen consistently during the past decade, far exceeding state and national averages.

The cameras rarely have helped in solving a crime. This year, of the more than 74,000 crime incidents of all types reported, less than 3 percent of the investigations even mentioned the cameras, according to data analyzed by The Daily Memphian. Of the 228 killings in 2021, only one investigation mentioned the camera program, the analysis showed.

The cameras have been subject to very little scrutiny by city officials as millions have been paid to the one Tennessee-registered company, SCI Technologies Inc. — doing business as SkyCop — that has profited from the cameras’ proliferation. A recent contract earmarked a little under $3 million for technology that the city had already allocated to another company.

A former sergeant with the Memphis Police Department helped to invent SkyCop’s main camera product while on the city’s payroll to design the crime-fighting program that would install the product throughout the city. The former sergeant is now the company’s vice president.

The Daily Memphian’s investigation showed the camera program’s rapid growth and expenditures have not produced meaningful results.

 

In 2010, before MPD installed a majority of SkyCop cameras, the city reported more than 1,500 violent crimes per 100,000 people, a rate approaching four times the national average.

 

In 2020, with thousands of SkyCop cameras monitoring streets, the violent-crime rate was 2,351 per 100,000 — an increase of about 57% over 2010, and nearly six times the national average.

 

While crime over that period has gone up nationwide, it has spiked at higher rates in Memphis than elsewhere in the country.

 

Furthermore, cameras played a role in a vanishingly small number of MPD investigations.

 

According to data provided by MPD in response to a public records request, of the more than 74,000 crime incidents of all types reported to the department between Jan. 1, 2021, and Oct. 31, 2021 — about 2,000, covering fewer than 1,400 incidents —mentioned “SkyCop,” “Real Time Crime Center,” or “Blue Crush,” the name given to MPD’s data policing program, which includes camera feeds.

 

MPD reported 228 killings during that period, with the camera programs mentioned in only one investigation.

 

The programs were mentioned in only 5% of the nearly 4,500 aggravated assault cases — which would include most non-fatal shooting incidents — reported to the department during that period, and in only 13 carjacking incident reports — 5% of the department’s 275 incidents during that period.

 

The terms were mentioned in just 4% of the city’s more than 1,300 incidents of reported robbery.

 

The reasons for crime increases are multitude and varied. The pandemic, to cite one example, has been recognized as spurring crime rate spikes nationwide over the last year and a half, and criminologists have, for generations, argued in books and peer-reviewed research over what other factors play roles in provoking criminality.

 

But if the intent of installing a conspicuous, citywide camera system was to stem crime rates in Memphis, it didn’t succeed.

 

That has not stopped the City of Memphis from paying SkyCop for even more cameras and technology.

‘That’s news to me’

As part of a contract worth nearly $3 million, the City of Memphis renewed a deal in April with SkyCop to place gunshot recognition technology into the constellation of white camera boxes flashing blue lights throughout Memphis’ streets. GSR — an acronym for the technology — is designed to geolocate the specific coordinates of a gunshot, so that police can investigate where and why a gun may have been fired.

 

The contract should have raised eyebrows for two reasons.

 

First, the Memphis Police Department is already in the midst of an experimental three-year contract with ShotSpotter, the publicly traded GSR company that deploys its audio sensors in cities all over the country, including Memphis.

 

Second, it seems no one told SkyCop about the contract.
