CEO behind ChatGPT admits he's 'a little bit scared' of powerful AI creation that is 'going to eliminate a lot of current jobs'

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the company behind the creation of ChatGPT, told ABC News in an interview that aired Thursday that he is "a little bit scared" of his company's creation and noted that the powerful artificial intelligence technology is "going to eliminate a lot of current jobs."

On Tuesday, OpenAI released a new version of the AI tech, ChatGPT-4, which has the ability to understand images. A demonstration of the new iteration showed the software sharing a recipe for items found inside a fridge. It can also solve puzzles and describe the meaning of internet memes.

At this time, the new features included in the latest iteration are only available to a small set of users.

Altman explained that the technology works by "ingesting a huge amount of text from a significant fraction of the internet" and replicating something similar to reasoning and understanding.

He admitted that ChatGPT and other AI systems would likely wipe out millions of jobs, but believes it "can do the opposite of all those things too."

"It is going to eliminate a lot of current jobs, that's true. We can make much better ones," Altman explained. He added that "human creativity is limitless" and society "can adapt wonderfully to major technological shifts."

Altman insisted that the benefits of creating the revolutionary technology would far outweigh the costs.

"The reason to develop AI at all is that I believe this will be, in terms of impact on our lives and improving our lives and upside, this will be the greatest technology humanity has yet developed," Altman stated.

The 37-year-old CEO noted that he is concerned about the technology falling into the wrong hands, including authoritarian governments like Russia and China. Altman told ABC News that he is in consistent contact with the federal government to ensure the United States wins the AI arms race.

Altman also expressed concerns that ChatGPT could produce "misinformation."

"The thing that I try to caution people the most is what we call the 'hallucinations problem,'" he said. "The model will confidently state things as if they were facts that are entirely made up."

Altman stated that he believes "people should be happy that we are a little bit scared of this."

ABC News' chief business, technology, and economics correspondent, Rebecca Jarvis, asked Altman to clarify whether he personally is fearful of ChatGPT.

Altman replied, "I think if I said I were not, you should either not trust me or be very unhappy I'm in this job."

These organizations often seek to stir civil unrest while claiming to pursue noble goals, the former Russian president said

Russia’s adversaries are eager to bet on various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to destabilize the nation, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev stated on Friday while stressing the need to counter such destructive activities.

Speaking at a session of Russia’s Ministry of Justice, Medvedev, who now serves as deputy chairman of the Security Council, claimed that NGOs were frequently being used for malign purposes.

“We know that the favorite method of our enemies, of all sorts, is to use NGOs in hybrid wars,” the official asserted, noting that some organizations that “had been created under a decent plate actually seek to stir up the situation in the country and undermine stability in civil society.”

Examples to such attempts are numerous, he added.

With this in mind, Medvedev called for honing the relevant legislation in a way that would curb the activities of malign NGOs while empowering those which seek to do good.

“On the one hand, it is necessary to create comfortable conditions for normal, bona fide NGOs, whose work brings real benefits to the state and society,” he said. “On the other hand, it is necessary to severely suppress the work of structures whose activities run counter to Russia’s interests.”

To achieve this goal, Medvedev continued, Russian authorities “should not hesitate to use all necessary legal instruments.”

At the same time, the ex-president continued, Moscow would resist efforts by various nations to undermine the pillars of international law. He stated that Russia would continue to advocate for “the consistent formation of a multipolar world order” while making its best efforts to “prevent the distortion” of norms of international law and the revision of the UN Charter.

“Of course, [Russia would continue] to insist that the practice of interference in the internal affairs of states should be abandoned,” Medvedev added.

Last summer, Russia adopted a new law on foreign agents, which entered into force last December. The legislation, which seeks “to protect the interests and security” of Russia, introduced more regulation on persons and entities that are being influenced by a foreign power in one way or another. The new restrictions prohibit them from performing a wide range of educational activities or serving as public officials.

ICC issues ‘arrest warrant’ for Putin

Russia is one of many countries that do not recognize the Hague-based institution

The Pre-trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued warrants on Friday for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, the presidential commissioner for children’s rights.

The Hague-based tribunal is not recognized by Moscow, and the move has no legal validity in Russia. The US also does not recognize the body, which has been accused of being Eurocentric and biased towards the West.

The Russian Foreign Ministry immediately dismissed the announcement. “The decisions of the International Criminal Court do not matter to our country, including from a legal point of view,” spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on Telegram.

“We consider the very premise outrageous and unacceptable,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. “Russia, like many other states, does not recognize the jurisdiction of this court. Accordingly, any of its pronouncements are null and void to the Russian Federation from the legal standpoint.”

Senator Andrey Klishas, a senior member of the ruling United Russia party, called the announcement “absurd,” saying the ICC is putting itself on the road to self-destruction.

The ICC alleged that Putin and Lvova-Belova engaged in the “unlawful deportation of population (children) and that of unlawful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.”

Thousands of residents of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson – four regions that overwhelmingly voted to join Russia last September – have been evacuated to the interior of Russia due the deliberate shelling of civilians by Ukrainian forces, often using NATO-supplied weapons.

The court claims that Putin and Lvova-Belova bear individual and command responsibility for the alleged crime under several articles of its establishing treaty, the Rome Statute. As Zakharova noted, however, Russia never ratified the statute and is not under the ICC’s jurisdiction.

Neither is the US, which has championed Ukraine’s claims of Russian “war crimes.” The US Congress adopted a law in 2002 prohibiting any Americans from cooperating with the ICC, or extradition of US citizens for trial there. The American Service-Members’ Protection Act (also known as The Hague Invasion Act), also authorized “all means necessary and appropriate” to release any detained Americans – or their allies – from the Hague.

The ICC was modeled after the ad-hoc tribunal for war crimes in the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), which relied on NATO countries to fund its investigations and trials, and enforce its warrants and verdicts.

Lankford then noted that it has been reported that many Chinese funds and startups, including those with ties to the CCP, had invested with SVB.

"Will my banks in Oklahoma pay a special assessment to be able to make Chinese investors whole from Silicon Valley Bank?" Lankford asked, to which Yellen replied, "I suppose that could include foreign depositors."

"I don’t believe there’s any legal basis to discriminate among uninsured," she continued.

Report: Execs of the San Francisco bank now getting $30 billion bailout had dumped stock ahead of collapse

Biden's Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen issued a joint statement Thursday along with the heads of the Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, announcing that 11 big banks would deposit roughly $30 billion into First Republic Bank to stabilize its balance sheet after its stock cratered last week.

While this bailout — blessed by the Biden administration — is intended to bolster depositors' confidence, a new report has revealed that First Republic's own executives have not done much in recent weeks to inspire diffidence.

The Wall Street Journal reported that top executives of the San Francisco-based bank dumped millions of dollars of company stock ahead of its crash last week.

It is presently unclear if First Republic executives did so suspecting possible trouble on the horizon. Nevertheless, they sold off and donated a bulk of stock when share prices were over $100.

This week, First Republic stock price dropped as low as $19.80 amid two credit downgrades. It took the Treasury's and Fed's joint statement to boost the price to $34.35 by market close.

James Herbert II, the bank's executive chairman who contributed thousands to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) in 2022, reportedly has sold $4.5 million worth of shares since early January. In one instance, he sold 15,000 shares (when priced at $123.51) in late February, according to FDIC filings.

The Journal noted that in two of Herbert's recent stock dumps, he sold off 7% and 5% of his holdings at the time, respectively.

Robert Thornton, First Republic's president of private wealth management, sold 73% of his outstanding shares valued at $3.5 million on Jan. 18 — his first trade in roughly two years.

The bank's chief executive officer, Michael Roffler, sold approximately $1 million worth in January after having previously dumped $1.3 million worth in November 2022.

David Lichtman, the bank's chief credit officer, has sold off $2.5 million worth already in 2023, including a sale on March 6, just days before Silicon Valley Bank began teetering.

The New York Post noted that filings show Lichtman and his wife also sold $2.5 million in shares last year.

"In all, insiders have sold $11.8 million worth of stock so far this year at prices averaging just below $130 a share," said the report. "The bank’s chief credit officer, its president of private wealth management and chief executive together sold $7 million worth of stock."

According to the Journal, the executives' trades went largely under the radar, largely because they didn't have to report their insider sales to the Securities and Exchange Commission. First Republic is reportedly the only company listed on the S&P 500 not to do so.

Despite this obscurity, the trades were, however, reported to the FDIC.

The executives' sales were reportedly not executed under 10b5-1 plans, meaning they may be open to accusations of insider trading.

SDNY Prosecutors Warned By Judge After Admitting “Working With China” to Prosecute Miles Guo, CCP’s Most Wanted Man.

On March 15, 2023, Miles Guo, a leading critic of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and founder of the New Federal State of China was arrested by federal authorities in New York. Over 100 FBI agents raided his New York residence, handcuffed him, and then took him to court for interrogation on allegations of fraud.

Suspicious circumstances surrounded the arrest; hours after Guo was taken into custody, with presumably only FBI agents inside his home, a fire broke out and damaged the property. How does this happen without explanation with federal agents on his property? Were there documents they saw fit to destroy? Even days later, the origin of the fire is unknown, and its origins are getting more suspicious by the second it remains unexplained.

The news of Guo’s arrest spread like wildfire in the media and on social media, with many accounts affiliated with the American political left, and pro-CCP accounts, celebrating the arrest.

Backlash from Guo exposing the corruption within the Chinese government forced him to flee to the U.S. from China in 2014 due to political persecution for exposing the CCP’s secrets. He’s remained a thorn in the CCP’s side since moving to the U.S., and they’ve gone into overdrive targeting him.

Guo’s arraignment on March 15th was presided over by Judge Katherine H. Parker – and she made things interesting. Apparently worried about the Government withholding critical information “favorable to an accused,” Judge Parker informed New York prosecutors that they have a legal obligation, continuing and affirmative, to disclose to Mr. Guo any and all information that may help impeach a Government-produced witness testimony and/or is otherwise favorable to Mr. Guo, including their contacts with foreign governments or other contacts that may be conflicts of interest by any persons involved in the prosecution or investigation of Guo’s case.

It was a reminder they needed.

Cop Gets 25 Years After His Own Dept. Busted Him Running Horrifying Child Porn Ring

“I am someone who should have been acting to arrest and stop child abuse and child pornography”

Lake Mary, FL — In March 2022, the Daytona Beach Police Department’s Advanced Technology and Cybercrime (ATAC) unit launched an investigation after receiving a tip about a child porn distribution ring that was being run on a social media app. After doing some digging, Daytona cops made a disturbing discovery — the perpetrator distributing images of child sexual abuse on the app — was one of their own.

In April 2022, Officer Brandon Fox, 23, was arrested and charged with 7 counts of possession and distribution of child pornography. According to police, they received information regarding an individual sharing child pornography via a social media app that included images and videos of sexual acts involving children under 10.

The evidence was so strong against him that he was quickly found guilty, and this week Fox was sentenced to 25 years in prison followed by 45 years of probation.

Fox reluctantly entered no-contest pleas for a staggering 38 counts of possession of sexual performance by a child. With each count being escalated from a third-degree felony to a second-degree felony due to Fox's possession of 10 or more images, including at least one video, the legal system actually aimed to hold him accountable.

The consequences for a second-degree felony can be as severe as 15 years in prison, meaning that Fox faced the possibility of an astounding 570-year sentence. However, the sentencing guidelines established a minimum sentence for Fox at 63.5 years, demonstrating the intent to ensure justice is served.

During the sentencing, Fox admitted to "being part of the problem" instead of the "solution" when it came to stopping child porn.

“I am someone who should have been acting to arrest and stop child abuse and child pornography,” Fox said. “In my tenure in law enforcement, I was involved in the arrest of sex offenders and people who have sought to hurt children. So, when I came into contact with these items I should have been part of the solution, not part of the problem.”

“Instead of protecting those innocent children from criminal behavior and exploitation, you chose repeatedly to participate in their exploitation and their victimization,” Circuit Judge Elizabeth Blackburn said. “And every single time you open a photograph or video, you, a sworn officer, revictimized that child. Every time you entered that chat room through Kik or any other chatroom that’s designed to share child pornography, you participated in exploiting children.”

During the investigation, police tracked the horrifying images and videos back to Fox.

According to police, Fox had been with the department for two years before he began preying on children.

As we reported right before Fox's arrest, in August of 2020, former New Mexico State Police officer, Ricky Romero, was granted a plea deal after admitting to soliciting and receiving sexually explicit images from an underage girl on social media. Instead of jail time for this child predator, Romero's badge granted him blue privilege, and he was given probation.

Thanks to his blue privilege, Romero avoided jail and didn't have to register as a sex offender. While on probation for sex crimes against children, Romero was arrested again.

According to the United States Attorney's office for the District of New Mexico, Romero appeared in federal court the following month where he was charged with coercion and enticement of a minor and receiving child pornography — again.

“You are erasing our trans babies!” said Eskamani, a former Planned Parenthood employee-turned State Representative who’s often touted as the “first Iranian in the Florida legislature.”

“We are facing a Governor who wants to commit genocide on trans people,” Eskamani went on to claim, despite Ron DeSantis having little to do with SB 254, a bill that he isn’t a sponsor of.

First Republic Bank Shares Crash Despite $30 Billion Rescue

First Republic Bank’s stock price crumbled on Friday despite big banks’ injection of $30 billion in uninsured deposits into the institution, suggesting the “rescue” did not inspire confidence as intended.

Not only did First Republic’s stock price crash — it was down around 25 percent at noon eastern time Friday — but several of the big banks that rescued the bank have experienced a drop in stock price. Shares of Wells Fargo were down by 4.2 percent, shares of Citigroup fell 3.6 percent, shares of Bank of America dropped four percent, and shares of J.P. Morgan Chase declined by 3.3 percent.

On Thursday, the Federal Reserve, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said the rescue was a reflection of the big banks’ “confidence in the country’s banking system.”

“Together, we are deploying our financial strength and liquidity into the larger system, where it is needed the most,” the agencies said.

The banks that came to the “rescue” were Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and J.P. Morgan Chase, which contributed about $5 billion apiece. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley deposited about $2.5 billion, according to the banks’ press release. Truist, PNC, U.S. Bancorp, State Street, and Bank of New York Mellon deposited about $1 billion each.

The massive deposits are obligated to remain in First Republic for at least 120 days, according to CNBC.

First Republic had suffered a downturn in the stock price in recent days, fueled by the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank over the weekend. An underlying factor causing the initial Silicon Valley Bank run was the FED’s interest rate hikes due to the Biden administration’s soaring inflation.

Due to the interest rate hikes to tamp inflation, borrowing money became more expensive for businesses, causing business depositors to access their savings at the institution.

Hunter Biden on Thursday admitted and then justified the Biden family’s multi-million dollar business with Chinese entities close to the Chinese Communist Party after years of denial.

A spokesperson said:

Hunter Biden, a private citizen with every right to pursue his own business endeavors, joined several business partners in seeking a joint venture with a privately-owned, legitimate energy company in China. As part of that joint venture, Hunter received his portion of good faith seed funds which he shared with his uncle, James Biden, and Hallie Biden, with whom he was involved with at the time, and sharing expenses.

Hunter’s spokesman continued, “Rep. Comer takes something old and tries to make it new by wrapping it in a wild and baseless right-wing conspiracy … The accounts so dramatically listed by Rep. Comer belonged to Hunter, his uncle and Hallie – nobody else.”

Hunter’s statement is a public relations attempt to push back on House Oversight Committee James Comer’s (R-KY) confirmation that the Biden family business received a $3 million wire transfer from a Chinese energy company and subsequent payments afterPresident Joe Biden left the vice presidency in 2017.

Comer has also found evidence that shows the Biden family business received $179,836.86 while Joe Biden was in the White House. Although the sum appears to be insignificant compared to the $31 million received by the business during Joe Biden’s time as vice president, the new amount builds upon the previous reporting in 2022 by Breitbart News senior contributor Peter Schweizer.

Hunter’s statement is notable because it represents the first time he has ever acknowledged his family made millions from Chinese business deals.

Schweizer, speaking with Fox News Thursday evening, mocked Hunter for changing his story after years of denial of his accurate reporting:

The story has changed throughout. When we first broke this story in 2018, they denied that they were even doing business in China. Then they said well, we were doing business in china but, as you pointed out, we didn’t make any money. Then it shifted to joe biden didn’t know about those deals.

Schweizer continued:

On Thursday afternoon, the White House also tried to deflect from Comer’s revelations by claiming the family was a victim, despite the millions of dollars they made without showing any production of a product or service in return for the money.

“After a disgusting attack lamenting that the President’s deceased son Beau was never prosecuted while he was alive, Congressman Comer has now decided to go after Beau’s widow,” said White House spokesman Ian Sams.

The statements come after Comer on Wednesday revealed whistleblowers have informed him Joe Biden has indirectly benefited financially from the Biden family business, raising questions about if Joe Biden is written into the family’s business deals off the books.

“One of the things that all of our whistleblowers have told us,” Comer told Just the News, “is that they were all — through these LLCs — paying for things for Joe Biden. So that’s very curious, you know.”

Escalation: Backed by U.S. and EU, Poland and Slovakia Sending Jets to Ukraine

Russia has vowed to destroy all fighter jets donated to Ukraine by European nations after Poland and Slovakia, backed by new equipment and finance from the U.S. and the European Union, became the first countries to send warplanes to Kyiv.

Fighter jets have been a long-term demand for the Ukrainian government of Volodymyr Zelensky since the renewed Russian invasion at the start of 2022, but NATO leaders have shied away from what they considered a major escalation of their involvement in the conflict until now. Enabled by cash and replacement warbirds from the United States and the European Union, two European nations are sending fighter jets to Ukraine in the coming days.

The first to announce it was sending jets was Poland, whose airforce operates many former-Soviet fighters. Warsaw announced Thursday it would be sending the first tranche of Mikoyan MIG-29 ‘Fulcrum’ fighter jets, a 1980s-era type roughly originally built as a parallel to the U.S. F-16. While that delivery will run to four jets, Poland has dozens and is reportedly preparing others for delivery.

The Polish jets going to Kyiv ends over a year of will-they-won’t-they following their initial announcement of intent to supply Ukraine with fighters in March 2022. The jets are expected to go to Ukraine within days, Poland said.

Poland is being backed in the donation, albeit somewhat indirectly, by the United States which is supplying the Polish Air Force with modern F-35s. Until they arrive, which could take years, the United Kingdom has offered to supply air patrols in the skies of NATO members who donate warbirds to Ukraine.

In the case of Poland, the United Kingdom has explicitly offered to “backfill” their air defence capacity when they give their own jets to Ukraine.

As has been the case with other major escalations in levels of support to Ukraine — the provision of main battle tanks, for instance, where months of refusals from NATO nations ended with a rush of donations after the United Kingdom opened the floodgates by being the first to supply — Poland making the jets announcement has been closely followed. Slovakia has now said it will send its entire airforce’s stock of MIG-29s as well in an announcement on Friday just hours after Poland’s.

ICC issues ‘arrest warrant’ for Putin

Russia is one of many countries that do not recognize the Hague-based institution

The Pre-trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued warrants on Friday for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, the presidential commissioner for children’s rights.

The Hague-based tribunal is not recognized by Moscow, and the move has no legal validity in Russia. The US also does not recognize the body, which has been accused of being Eurocentric and biased towards the West.

The Russian Foreign Ministry immediately dismissed the announcement. “The decisions of the International Criminal Court do not matter to our country, including from a legal point of view,” spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on Telegram.

“We consider the very premise outrageous and unacceptable,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. “Russia, like many other states, does not recognize the jurisdiction of this court. Accordingly, any of its pronouncements are null and void to the Russian Federation from the legal standpoint.” Senator Andrey Klishas, a senior member of the ruling United Russia party, called the announcement “absurd,” saying the ICC is putting itself on the road to self-destruction.

The ICC alleged that Putin and Lvova-Belova engaged in the “unlawful deportation of population (children) and that of unlawful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.”

Thousands ofresidents of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson– four regions that overwhelmingly voted to join Russia last September – have been evacuated to the interior of Russiadue the deliberate shelling of civiliansby Ukrainian forces, often using NATO-supplied weapons.

The court claims that Putin and Lvova-Belova bear individual and command responsibility for the alleged crime under several articles of its establishing treaty, the Rome Statute. As Zakharova noted, however, Russia never ratified the statute and is not under the ICC’s jurisdiction.

Neither is the US, which has championed Ukraine’s claims of Russian “war crimes.” The US Congress adopted a law in 2002 prohibiting any Americans from cooperating with the ICC, or extradition of US citizens for trial there. The American Service-Members’ Protection Act (also known as The Hague Invasion Act), also authorized “all means necessary and appropriate” to release any detained Americans – or their allies – from the Hague. The ICC was modeled after the ad-hoc tribunal for war crimes in the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), which relied on NATO countries to fund its investigations and trials, and enforce its warrants and verdicts.

Western banking crisis cannot spread to Russia – central bank

There will not be a direct impact on the country’s financial sector, Elvira Nabiullina says

The unfolding banking crisis in the US is increasing the risks for the global economy, but cannot directly affect Russia, according to the head of Russia’s central bank, Elvira Nabiullina.

Moscow earlier said that the Western sanctions and the resulting disconnection from the international financial system has turned out to be “a blessing in disguise” for Russia.

“In assessing external conditions, I cannot but comment on the current situation in the banking system of the United States and Europe,” Nabiullina said at a press conference on Friday. “There is no direct impact on the Russian financial system, but this new factor on its own adds uncertainty about the future trajectory of the global economy.”

According to Nabiullina, the recent events exacerbate the problem for Western central banks of finding a balance between continuing to pursue monetary policy objectives and managing risks to the financial system. “On the one hand, we see the vulnerability of the financial sector to interest rate and other risks.

On the other hand, the current inflationary pressure remains elevated. In combination, this situation may increase the risks… of a recession in the global economy, despite the strong data that we have seen recently,” she explained.

She added that for Russia, the slowdown in the global economy could mean lower demand for the country’s exports, which would add inflationary pressure.

Researchers are raising the alarm after a bombshell new study revealed that American teens and young children are dying at the highest levels seen in decades.

Two Jewish suspects, including a minor, were indicted Friday on terror charges for recently firebombing a mosque in the central city of Herzliya.

The Tel Aviv residents, aged 16 and 19, were arrested by police in the past few days for targeting the Sidna Ali Mosque in January with Molotov cocktails as an act of revenge for Palestinian terror attacks, according to a Justice Ministry statement.

The suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism and arson offenses. The roof of the mosque was left covered in soot due to the act.

The indictment also alleged the two considered carrying out a lynch of an Arab-Israeli but decided instead to act against the mosque.

Biden’s Migrant Catch-and-Release Policy Unlawful, Trump-Appointed Judge Rules

The Biden administration has turned the southwest border into a meaningless line in the sand and little more than a speedbump for aliens flooding into the country, according to a scathing federal court order blasting the president’s controversial catch-and-release policy. Known as Parole Plus Alternative to Detention (Parole+ATD) the program released over a million illegal immigrants in the U.S. in a year, supposedly tracking them with technology and other tools. Florida officials filed a lawsuit in 2021, accusing the Biden administration of violating immigration laws with policies that freed illegal aliens from detention after entering the country via the Mexican border. The state alleged that releasing illegal immigrants impacts it because about 100,000 ended up in Florida, increasing healthcare, education, and criminal justice costs.

A federal judge agreed with officials in the Sunshine State, ruling this month that the Biden administration is responsible for the southwest border crisis and that it is to blame for the influx of migrants. In his 109-page order the judge, T. Kent Wetherell of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, writes this: “Defendants have effectively turned the Southwest Border into a meaningless line in the sand and little more than a speedbump for aliens flooding into the country by prioritizing “alternatives to detention” over actual detention and by releasing more than a million aliens into the country—on “parole” or pursuant to the exercise of “prosecutorial discretion” under a wholly inapplicable statute—without even initiating removal proceedings.” Rejecting the government’s rationale for the outrageous policy, the Trump-appointed jurist likens it to “a child who kills his parents and then seeks pity for being an orphan.”

The lashing continues in the lengthy decision, which was delivered after a weeklong trial in January. Biden’s open border policies are akin to posting a flashing “come in, we’re open sign on the Southern border,” Judge Wetherell writes. “The unprecedented ‘surge’ of aliens that started arriving at the Southwest border almost immediately after President Biden took office and that has continued unabated over the past two years was a predictable consequence of these actions.” The judge cites Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz’s testimony revealing that the current surge in migrants differs from prior surges he has seen over his lengthy career in that most of the border crossers are turning themselves in to federal agents rather than trying to escape. “It is reasonable to infer (and just plain common sense) that aliens are doing this because they are aware that they will be expeditiously processed and released into the country,” the order states, adding that “indeed, on this point, Chief Ortiz credibly opined based on his experience that the aliens are likely turning themselves in because they think they’re going to be released.”

Ruling that Biden’s catch-and-release policy is unlawful, Judge Wetherell gives the administration seven days to comply with federal immigration law. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, who filed the lawsuit, said the ruling affirms what we have known all along, that Biden is responsible for the border crisis and his unlawful immigration policies make the U.S. less safe. “A federal judge is now ordering Biden to follow the law,” Moody said in a statement, adding that “his administration should immediately begin securing the border to protect the American people.” A former state judge and federal prosecutor who tried drug, firearm, and fraud crimes, Moody and her legal team presented the court with evidence that the Biden administration purposely reduced Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) holding capacity and narrowed removal pathways to force the release of hundreds of thousands of migrants into the U.S.

YouTube restores Trump's account, cites full voter access to major 2024 presidential candidates

The decision follows Meta announcing roughly a month ago that the Facebook and Instagram parent company would restore Trump's respective accounts.

YouTube said Friday it has restored former President Trump's channel, after suspending it the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

"The Donald J. Trump channel is no longer restricted and the ability to upload new content is restored," the the online video-sharing and social media platform told Fox News Digital.

YouTube also signaled the decision was based significantly on Trump running for reelection and voters having full access to his campaign.

Biden made the comments at the Friends of Ireland luncheon on Capitol Hill after McCarthy told him that he strives for the relationship former GOP President Ronald Reagan had with former Democrat House Speaker Tip O'Neill.

Alluding to his and Biden's negotiations over raising the debt limit, McCarthy pointed out Reagan and O'Neill worked together on fiscal policy and other issues.

"To President Biden, from one Irish-American to another, I want to strive every day to live up to the example of President Reagan and Tip O'Neill,"

McCarthy said at the luncheon. "Our positions may be reversed, but our goals can be the same when we put this country first. I've watched an Irish heritage create bonds." (liar)

McCarthy citied his relationship with former Democrat Rep. Joe Kennedy, who is now the United States special envoy for Northern Ireland.

The California Republican also said some people are saying a "clash is brewing" between him and Biden that Ireland Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, who also attended the luncheon, might be able to settle it.

"Which one us is more Irish?" McCarthy asked Varadkar.

Biden said he agreed with McCarthy, saying, "there's no reason why we can't find common ground."

In Biden's remarks, he told McCarthy there's "no reason why we can't hope to change this direction the extremes in both our parties are pushing, it's important. I think it's really important and that's the power of friendship.

"I think it's the power and strength of our partnership if we work at it."

Biden said he takes pride in his Irish heritage and recalled visiting Ireland to find his family members.

MONTICELLO, Minn. (FOX 9) - Xcel Energy is cleaning up a leak at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant after 400,000 gallons of water contaminated with radioactive tritium leaked from pipes at the plant.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) said on Thursday, March 16, the leak was reported in late November 2022 after Xcel Energy found unusual results while conducting routine groundwater testing.

Xcel Energy reported about 400,000 gallons of water containing radioactive tritium leaked from a water pipe running between two buildings at its Monticello facility. The company said it is monitoring groundwater from two dozen wells.

Tritium is a radioactive form of hydrogen and a byproduct of producing electricity at nuclear power plants, according to the MPCA.

"Our top priority is protecting residents and the environment, and the MPCA is working closely with other state agencies to oversee Xcel Energy’s monitoring data and cleanup activities," said Kirk Koudelka, MPCA assistant commissioner for land and strategic initiatives. "We are working to ensure this cleanup is concluded as thoroughly as possible with minimal or no risk to drinking water supplies."

No risk to drinking water at this time, MPCA states

When the leak was detected the facility diverted water to an in-plant water treatment system to contain it and prevent additional water from leaving the plant. The MPCA added the leak has stopped, and the contaminated water has not reached the Mississippi River or contaminated drinking water sources.

"There is no evidence at this time to indicate a risk to any drinking water wells in the vicinity of the plant," MPCA said in a press release on Thursday.

Xcel Energy said it completed a thorough inspection of all piping at the plant and determined no other areas of the facility are of concern. It will also be looking at the pipe that leaked in the laboratory to determine why it happened, the company said in a press release.

The contaminated water is contained to the grounds of the plant and has not been detected beyond the facility or any local drinking water, according to Xcel Energy. The company is continuing to monitor groundwater from over two dozen wells on-site.

An estimated 25% of the leaked tritium water has been recovered and will continue recovery over the course of the next year. Xcel Energy is considering options to store the recovered contaminated water, such as building above-ground storage tanks or a retention pond, which will be reviewed by the state agencies.

"We have taken comprehensive measures to address this situation on-site at the plant. While this leak does not pose a risk to the public or the environment, we take this very seriously and are working to safely address the situation," said Chris Clark, president of Xcel Energy–Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota in a statement.

The MPCA, in coordination with the Minnesota Department of Health, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is monitoring Xcel’s process of cleaning up the leak.

FOX 9 reached out to both Xcel and the state to ask why it took so long to notify the public.

"If at any time someone’s health is at risk, we would notify folks immediately," said Dan Huff with the Minnesota Department of Health. "This is a contained site underneath the Xcel plant and it has not threatened any Minnesotans’ health."

"Our own employees drink from a well right there on site," said president of Xcel Energy Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota Chris Clark. "We of course tested that water to make sure it was well within safe water drinking systems and it was, so we knew there was nothing particular concerning."

BOJ's paper loss on bond holdings spikes tenfold

Hit to Japan central bank's assets grows to $71bn as yield cap is raised

The Bank of Japan's paper loss on Japanese government bond holdings grew more than 10 times at the end of last year from three months earlier as rises in long-term rates undercut the value of the assets. The market value of the central bank's JGB holdings stood at 554.6 trillion yen ($4.2 trillion) as of the end of December, according to preliminary flow of fund data released Friday. Given that the announced book value of the assets was 564.1 trillion yen, the unrealized loss came to 9.5 trillion yen ($71.4 billion), up from 874 billion yen at the end of September, based on a Nikkei calculation.

The BOJ announces unrealized gains and losses on JGBs at the end of March and September every year. Last September's announcement showed an unrealized loss for the first time since March 2006, when quantitative easing was lifted. The BOJ has been buying a massive amount of JGBs to guide long-term interest rates to around 0% under its yield-curve control. But facing pressure from short-sellers, the central bank lifted the cap on the 10-year yield to 0.5% from 0.25% in December. This caused a spike in long-term rates, expanding the loss on the BOJ's holdings. Gov. Haruhiko Kuroda told the lower house Budget Committee in February that the unrealized loss on the assets was about 8.8 trillion yen at the end of last year. The BOJ has an outsized presence in the government bond market. As of the end of December, its holding of long-term JGBs totaled 546.9 trillion yen on a market value basis, up 5.9% on the year. The central bank held a record high 52% of all JGBs, excluding short-term notes.

When short-term instruments are included, the BOJ's holdings account for 46.3%, significantly higher than 19.4% for insurance and pension funds, 13.8% held by overseas investors, and 12.5% by banks. Players other than the BOJ have reduced their holdings, making the BOJ virtually the only buyer of JGBs. The Daily Caller reported Thursday that Chasten was miffed about “the bans on drag shows, pornographic books from school libraries and Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill that prohibits classroom discussion about sexuality and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade classrooms.”

But, of course, Chasten didn’t put it quite that way. As far as he was concerned, it was all an attack by rich right-wingers against the poor, embattled “LGBTQ community,” as if that community wasn’t hailed, celebrated, and praised everywhere in our rancid and ridiculous culture today. They’re really the victims, Chasten insists, and of course, “The View” panelists agreed.

Chasten said huffily: “I think it’s an extremely dangerous time and it’s a really upsetting time because nothing could be more important than showing up and protecting our families.” Oh come on, now, Chasten! That’s exactly what the people who were behind this bill wanted to do in the first place, but Pete’s husband thinks that parents and adherents of traditional morality are protecting their families from the wrong people.

The other Mr. Buttigieg continued: “But the way in which they say they’re showing up for our families, this conversation about giving parents more choice, protecting children, what they’ve really done, and they’ve done a good job, it’s been a very well-coordinated, well-funded effort to attack the LGBTQ community.”

This was carefully worded to sound several Leftist alarm bells. Even though Leftist groups generally have massive budgets that dwarf those of their patriotic opponents (take, for example, the hundreds of millions of dollars that the Southern Poverty Law Center has in its war chest, while none of its patriotic targets have anything close to that), they like to posture as the plucky underdogs fighting courageously against sinister, well-heeled conservatives. Those conservatives apparently gratuitously decided to “attack the LGBTQ community.” Not a word, of course, about grooming or destroying children’s innocence. Oh no, this “attack” was, in Chasten’s world, entirely unprovoked.

Inverting reality even further, Chasten added: “Specifically with the book bans, when you look at what many of these have in common, they’re extremely vulnerable children and so you have groups of politicians who are making calculated choices.” Yes, they are indeed vulnerable children. But who exactly is preying upon these vulnerable children? The people who are pushing pornography and gender madness upon them, or the people who are trying to protect them from all that?

A Michigan trade association is suing the National Labor Relations Board's general counsel over allegedly threatening to violate employer free-speech rights.

The Associated Builders and Contractors of Michigan lawsuit argues NLRB general counsel and prosecutor Jennifer Abruzzo,would abrogate employer First Amendment rights by using her authority to change longstanding precedentto favor unions.

The Chicago-based nonprofit Liberty Justice Center filed the lawsuit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, on behalf of ABC.

AfterAbruzzo was appointed by President Bidenon July 21, 2021, she issued a public memorandum announcing that she would urge the board to correct its longstanding precedent that allowed business owners to speak to their employees about unionization. The lawsuit states Abruzzo "has embarked on a personal campaign to transform federal labor law under the National Labor Relations Act to favor unions, and to disfavor employers."

Bloomberg News reportsAbruzzo targeted 53 issues for changesin precedent in a memorandum after winning Senate confirmation.

The lawsuit says Abruzzo’s public threat of prosecution violates the First Amendment Free Speech Clause, which prohibits government officials from making threats intended as a censorship scheme to quell speech.

As general counsel, Abruzzo is authorized to impartially investigate and prosecute once a charge is filed.She’s not authorized to file a chargealleging an unfair labor practice against an employer or a union.

The NLRB declined to comment for this story. The lawsuit claims that

Abruzzo's memo is an attempt to coerce employers into avoiding conversations on union representation with their employees by threatening legal action if these discussions take place during mandatory meetings. So nowemployers must refrain from discussing their opinions on unionswith their own employees in these settings if they wish to avoid legal consequences.

"Every single day 88% of Michigan’s builders and contractors go to work employing over 75,000 skilled trades workers and their families," said ABC Michigan CEO and President Jimmy Greene. "Working in a competitive environment means that we depend on a fair and non-biased National Labor Relations Board. To date, ABC Michigan sees little to nothing that would give our members confidence in that expectation."

The First Amendment protects the right of unions, workers, and business owners to discuss the pros and cons of unionizing workers at a business. A union has a right to argue its case for unionizing to a businesses’ employees, employees have the right to discuss it among themselves, and their employer has the right to tell employees why a union might not be beneficial.

"Courts have made it clear that when a government official’s speech is not an attempt to convince but an attempt to coerce, then that official has crossed the line into threatening behavior," LJC senior attorney Buck Dougherty said in a statement. “And the Supreme Court held many years ago in its Bantam Books decision that a threat of prosecution designed as a censorship scheme violates the First Amendment."
