Last year it was leaked that Latoya Raveneau, an executive producer at Disney, had bragged that her team had implemented a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” and was regularly “adding queerness” to children’s programming. And audiences were not happy about it. A Rasmussen Reports survey taken after the leak revealed that Disney’s boasts of promoting LGBTQ messaging to children were not well-received by the American public. The poll showed that merely 28% of adult Americans felt that focusing on “inclusion” and “diversity” enhances children’s entertainment. Conversely, 45% of respondents felt that it would have a negative impact, while only 18% believed that it would not have any impact.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen confirmed this week that Chinese depositors with Silicon Valley Bank will have their deposits fully insured as part of the government's intervention in the bank's collapse.

 

Testifying before the Senate Finance Committee, Yellen fielded questions from Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford, who asked whether banks is Oklahoma would pay fees to help remunerate SVB's Chinese investors.

"Uninsured investors will be made whole in that bank," Yellen confirmed, per the Washington Times. "I suppose that could include foreign depositors, but I don’t believe there’s any legal basis to discriminate among [the] uninsured."

 

Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank failed last Friday and Sunday, respectively. The industry volatility has spelled trouble for other financial institutions, such as First Republic, which received a rescue plan of $30 billion from other banks. Across the ocean, major firms such as Credit Suisse have struggled to cope with the turmoil.

 

The administration's plan involves using the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to insure SVB's depositors beyond the normal threshold of $250,000 and to guarantee their entire deposits.

 

As the existing FDIC reserve appears to fall short of the necessary amount to guarantee the bank's completely, the insurer will levy a special assessment on banks to make up the difference. Yellen has promised that taxpayers will not bear the financial burden of the plan, though Lankford appeared skeptical of that declaration.

 

"I’m sure my bankers are going to be very excited to know they are no longer paying taxes and their banks no longer pay taxes," he told the Treasury secretary. "All banks make their revenue off of rates and fees and such to their account holders, which means every Oklahoman will pay higher fees in their community banks."

 

SVB had $13.9 billion in foreign deposits, much of which came from Chinese startups, per the Times.

European officials are reportedly outraged by U.S. government officials' decision to take over Silicon Valley Bank that failed last week – accusing them of "incompetence."

 

European financial officials say theUnited States violated its own rules, particularly the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. covering all deposits, despite guaranteeing individual deposits only up to $250,000, according to The Financial Times.

 

The FDIC worked with the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve to secure deposits at Silicon, which failed March 10, then at Signature Bank, which failed Sunday.

 

After the collapse of the banks, European financial markets reportedly had their worst week this year, in which Credit Suisse also needed financial help to avoid a crisis.

 

(Also this week, a group of financial institutions in the U.S. agreed to deposit $30 billion in First Republic Bank to avert a collapse.)

 

An unnamed senior eurozone official said U.S. officials have acted with "total and utter incompetence" and hinted thatthey were hypocritessince America has pledge to end bank bailouts, The Times also reports.

 

Regulation expert Nicolas Veron at the Peterson Institute, called the U.S. efforts in the past roughly eight days "very questionable."

 

"From a financial stability perspective,they really killed a fly with a sledgehammer," he said.

 

Another European regulator said everyday American citizens would pay for U.S. regulators' decisions with taxes, also according to The Times.

 

"At the end of the day, this is a bailout paid for by the ordinary people and it’s abailout of the rich venture capitalists which is really wrong," he said.

Pentagon launches experimental space laser

The device transmits solar energy back down to Earth in electromagnetic waves

 

The US Naval Research Laboratory launched a laser power beaming device into space on Wednesday. Though the technology is still in its infancy, proponents say it could one dayfuel extraterrestrial colonies, or alleviate energy shortages on earth.

 

The Space Wireless Energy Laser Link (SWELL) blasted off for the International Space Station aboard a SpaceX Cargo Dragon spacecraft on Wednesday, according to statements from the US Navy and Space Force.

 

The launch was carried out by SpaceX on behalf ofNASA and the Department of Defense, with the Dragon vehicle carrying seven other experimental devices to the space station for the Pentagon.

 

In development since last year, the SWELL delivers energy harvested from space-based solar panels to earth in the form of electromagnetic waves. As no mass is transported, power delivery is almost instant.

 

Similar devices are currently being designed by private companies, although the technology has not yet been tested in space.

 

“This is the next step in extending this capability for space, lunar, and planetary applications,” SWELL Program Manager Chris DePuma said in a statement. DePuma predicted that the technology could one day be a “critical enabler” of powered settlements on the moon and elsewhere.

 

“Power beaming might also be used for distributing power for and around Earth, including from satellites that collect solar energy in space,” he added.

 

Power beaming is not without its limitations, however. At present, a single laser beaming device can transmit 1-10 milliwatts of power, according to a 2021 report by Forbes. The average onshore wind turbine, by contrast, has a capacity of 2.5-3mw.

 

Larger microwave beaming systems could theoretically transmit more than a gigawatt of power to Earth-based receivers. The popularity of anime largely stems from its roots outside of this moral debasement. There are stories with proper characters and depth to be found. There are heroes. There are villains with motives beyond a commitment to destructive stupidity. There are arcs of character drama that see resolution (imagine a soap opera where people work through their differences rather than perpetually rooting themselves in drama for the sake of more seasons). The characters and plots of anime are far more real than the garbage that tends to come out of "the west."

 

If you're just anti-media and want to go back to nothing but bible study or something, that is an objective I can at least recognize the argument as an intelligible one. But you have to be honest about it. If you just keep attacking something you know nothing about, then you're retarded.
