Based on my 3 minute study of online databases, the only reason that "qanon" is a thing is because of twitter hashtags.

 

When twatfags would spread their seed on the face of social media, they would use the hashtag #qanon.

The following year, then-U.S. District Court Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson said the gunman's "ill-conceived plot" did "actual damage to the lives of real people," before handing down a four-year prison sentence for the attack.

 

Clinton's mention of the conspiracy theory evoked laughter from the crowd.

 

"Don't laugh," she said. "It was a huge story. And it got one young man in North Carolina to get in his car with his, you know, assault rifle and drove up to liberate these nonexistent children and shoot up a pizzeria in Washington, D.C."

 

"This is dangerous stuff," Clinton stressed. "It starts online often on the dark web. It migrates. It's picked up by the pro-Trump media. It's then reported on by everybody else, which makes sure it has about 100% coverage, and people believe it."

 

She then cautioned that the "digital airwaves" will be rife with misinformation in the run-up to this year's presidential election, which can take on a life of its own, and said the press needs to have a "consistent narrative" about the threat Trump poses to the country.

 

With regard to a story about Harris, Clinton said she doesn't "know what it's going to be," but said "it will be something," adding that "we'll have to work very, very hard to make sure that it is exposed as the lie that it is."

 

She also warned about the threat of disinformation on social media from adversaries like Russia, Iran and China, as they seek to influence the outcome of the election.

Pete Rose's gambling scandal, explained: Why MLB's hits king is banned for betting on baseball

Pete Rose is MLB's hits king — and it's possible he will hold that title for the rest of time.

 

No active player in Major League Baseball has 3,000 hits. Just two players who played in the 2000s came within even 1,000 hits of Rose's final tally, and both had to play 20-plus seasons to do so.

 

Yet Rose won't be found on a plaque in the Baseball Hall of Fame. His omission has nothing to do with performance-enhancing drugs, which have cost players including Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. He, unlike other questionable omissions from Cooperstown, has never even had the chance to appear on a Hall of Fame ballot.

 

On Monday, TMZ reported that Rose has died at age 83.

 

Rose was banned from baseball back in 1986 after agreeing with the commissioner to accept a permanent ban from the sport's highest level.

 

That does not necessarily keep him from the Hall of Fame, as the board in Cooperstown could have him posthumously appear on a ballot. However, over the past few decades, Major League Baseball kept him permanently ineligible to return, and the Hall kept him from the chance to be enshrined.

 

Before his death, Rose appeared resigned to the fact that he would not be reinstated in the past, particularly after his 2022 case was denied by commissioner Rob Manfred.

 

“I’ve been suspended over 30 years. That’s a long time to be suspended for betting on your own team to win,” said Rose, per Forbes. “And I was wrong. But that mistake was made. Time usually heals everything. It seems like it does in baseball, except when you talk about the Pete Rose case.”

 

Why was Rose banned from baseball? Here's what you need to know.

 

What did Pete Rose do?

 

Rose started his MLB career with the Reds in 1963, and he played in Cincinnati through 1978.

 

After stints with the Phillies and the Expos, he returned to Cincinnati midway through the 1984 season as a player-manager. He held that post through the 1986 season, when he announced his retirement as a player and shifted his focus to being the full-time manager of the team.

 

In 1989, Rose came under scrutiny by the league for allegations over placing bets on baseball after several betting slips belonging to Rose were found in an Ohio restaurant. A Sports Illustrated report connected the owner of the restaurant, Ron Peters, and one of Rose's friends, Paul Janszen, as both having run bets for Rose. Jaszen claimed Rose would signal bets to him from the dugout during games, which Rose called ridiculous.

 

Asked in March about the reports, Rose refused to deny outright betting on baseball, saying only that he would later have a chance to provide his side of the story. In April 1989, Giamatti became the commissioner and opened an official investigation into Rose, hiring John Dowd to handle the investigation.

 

Dowd spoke with bookmakers and other runners claiming to be associated with Rose. Among those was Janszen, who detailed much of Rose's gambling network, including noting Rose lost $450,000 in a three-month span in 1987. Janszen claimed Rose said he would consider throwing a game if a large enough bet was placed on it, and said he'd check with managers before games to ask about the health of opposing players before placing bets on their teams.

 

"He would talk about his gambling in front of a lot of people. And his answer for that always was, 'They can't get me,'" Janszen said. "He put himself above everything. 'They can't get me,' he'd say. 'What have they got? What are they going to prove? How are they going to prove it?'"

 

There were documents submitted to Dowd that included detailed evidence of bets placed by Rose. In his depositions, Rose denied ever betting on baseball and blasted those who claimed otherwise, saying they didn't have "any credibility." Rose called many of them criminals.

 

"Pete Rose testified that he was ignorant of the activities of his companions," Dowd said in the report. "His ignorance of their criminal activities allows Rose to use their young men for his own purposes and if they are caught, claim they are not credible."

 

Dowd said he found Janszen's testimony to be "worthy of belief" when it was paired with matching testimony of others, betting sheets, Jaszens' records and other recorded phone records and conversations.

 

Rose denied everything and filed a lawsuit to halt the hearing with Giamatti. The lawsuit — filed in Ohio's Hamilton County, home county of the Reds — was successful, and a temporary restraining order was placed to delay Rose's hearing with Giamatti. Giamatti successfully removed the case from federal court, and to avoid further court battles, Rose and Giamatti entered settlement agreements.

Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov has embarked on a five-month mission, arriving at the International Space Station (ISS) aboard Elon Musk’s Crew Dragon spacecraft. He is the fifth Russian to fly aboard a SpaceX ferry ship.

 

The Crew-9 mission, the ninth operational commercial crew mission for NASA, was launched by a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Saturday.The Crew Dragon spacecraft, which also carried US astronaut Nick Hague, reached its intended orbit and docked autonomously to the ISS on Sunday afternoon. NASA streamed live footage of the docking online.

 

Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, commented on the docking with a brief post on X: “Dragon has reached @Space_Station.”

 

Gorbunov, from Russia’s state space agency (Roscosmos), is on his first mission and will serve as a flight engineer.

 

Gorbunov and Hague will stay aboard the orbiting laboratory for five months. According to Roscosmos, Gorbunov is the 25th Russian cosmonaut to fly on an American ship, and the fifth to fly on a Crew Dragon.

The US Maritime Alliance says it has offered to boost wages for dockworkers by nearly 50% in an effort to resume negotiations with the International Longshoremen’s Union and avoid a potentially crippling strike at East Coast and Gulf ports.

 

USMX, as the group representing terminal operators and ocean carriers is known, said in a statement it has traded counteroffers with the dockworkers union related to wages over the last 24 hours.

A law firm in Texas is representing more than 50 alleged victims who claim they were sexually assaulted by Diddy and his associates.

 

Attorney Tony Buzbee of the Buzbee Law Firm said that the firm was asked by the Ava Law Group “to act as Lead Counsel to pursue claims on behalf of more than fifty individuals who suffered sexual assault and abuse at the hands of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and his cohorts.”

 

He said many were minors when the abuse occurred as in they were children!

MLB legend Pete Rose has died at the age of 83, TMZ Sports has learned.

 

Rose, Major League Baseball's hit king, passed away earlier today at his home in Las Vegas.

 

Pete's agent, Ryan Fiterman of Fiterman Sports, confirmed the news, adding … "the family is asking for privacy at this time."

 

The cause of Pete's death is unclear … but we know he was at a Fiterman Sports Group meet-and-greet with fans in Nashville on Sunday afternoon.Rose was in a wheelchair, but we're told that's just 'cause his back was aching. He appeared to be in good spirits.

 

Rose even took a pic alongside Big Red Machine teammates Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Tony Perez, and Ken Griffey Sr.

 

Pete, nicknamed "Charlie Hustle" for his tenacious play, was one of the greatest baseball players to ever grace a diamond, earning 17 All-Star Game nods, winning three World Series titles and the 1973 N.L. MVP.

 

No player in the 100+ year history of Major League Baseball had more hits than Pete, who accumulated an astounding 4,256 hits over his 24-season career.

 

Rose also led MLB in games played (3,562), at-bats (15,890) and plate appearances (14,053).

 

In the field, Rose was very versatile … playing first base, second base, third base, and the outfield.

 

Pete spent the majority of his legendary career with the Cincinnati Reds, but also played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos, before returning to Cinci and finishing his career as a player-manager.

 

Rose hung up the spikes for good (as a player) in 1986.

 

Of course, Rose wasn't without controversy. He was banned from baseball by MLB commissioner Bart Giamatti in 1989 after the league determined he'd bet on baseball.

 

After denying he'd wagered on baseball for years, Pete ultimately admitted to it in the mid-2000s.

 

"The Reds are heartbroken to learn of the passing of baseball legend Pete Rose," the organization said of Pete's passing.

 

Despite coming clean, MLB never lifted the lifetime ban, despite Rose who was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame being considered one of the best players ever.

 

Now, in death, it remains to be seen whether Pete will finally have his rightful place in Cooperstown.

EV DRIVERS have been warned of potential fire hazards as reports surfaced of cars blowing due to flooding during Hurricane Helene.

 

Motorists are being urged to either move their cars urgently or report them to authorities if it's not safe to do so.

 

The powerful hurricane made landfall in the south-eastern US late last week, with the Carolinas bearing the brunt of the storms.

 

At last count, 95 people were confirmed to have died across six states stretching from southern Florida up to Virginia.

 

The city of Asheville in North Carolina has also been cut off as rising floodwaters made roads impassible and knocked out electricity and phone networks.

 

Amid the chaos, reports have emerged that the saltwater flooding has caused fires and even explosions in electric cars.

 

Most modern EVs use lithium-ion batteries thanks to their energy efficiency and relatively compact size.

 

However, lithium is highly reactive with water and, while perfectly safe in normal conditions, can have explosive consequences if exposed to it.

 

According to the National Highways and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) the issue was first detected during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

 

Local officials are asking EV owners to move their cars to higher ground and out of the reach of flooding where possible.

 

However, drivers should bear in mind that it is never safe to drive through flood water, even in an internal combustion car.

 

If you are unable to safely move your vehicle, you should report it to the local authority as soon as possible.

The warning applies to full-size EVs as well as smaller vehicles like golf buggies if they rely on battery power.

 

Thankfully, the storm is expected to wane throughout the day and dissipate by tomorrow.

 

But the cost has still been high with an estimated 4.6 million households hit by power cuts and up to £74billion ($110billion) of damage caused.

 

President Biden has declared states of disaster in Florida and North Carolina, with the latter seeing its highest hurricane death toll in 35 years.

 

What should you do if you're caught in a flood?

If you fear that your area is about to be flooded, government advice is to turn off your gas and electricity where safe to do so and move to higher ground.

 

You should also consult your local council's advice and access a community flood plan if you have one.

 

Advice is also available online from the National Flood Forum and British Red Cross, or by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188.

 

During a flood, try and stay at the highest point possible and keep exits clear in case you need to escape rising water.

 

Do not touch any electrical sockets or devices when standing in water.

 

It is also strongly advised that you do not attempt to use flooded roads as you could be left stranded - remember the water may be deeper than it looks.

 

If your home is flooded you can apply to your local council for temporary accommodation until it becomes habitable again.

 

Emergency funding has also been sent to Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

 

The US National Weather Service dubbed Helene, the "worst event" in its 154-year history.

 

A spokesperson said: "We are devastated by the horrific flooding and widespread wind damage that was caused by Hurricane Helene across our forecast area."

 

Tom Barth of the National Transportation Safety Board, said: "If the salt water is able to bridge the gap between the positive and negative terminals of the battery, then it can cause a short circuit.

 

"Where it begins to be a problem is if you have the batteries submerged in standing water.

 

"That’s where it starts to overcome the moisture seals in the battery."

 

However, he urged drivers not to panic if their car was caught in the floods, adding: "It’s not like every vehicle that gets flooded is therefore going to ignite and catch
