The irony is that all the cops & government & DOJ are masons. They have sworn an oath to protect each other, including treason. Some cops and MPs are up to their necks in these rape gangs; the rest of their fellow travellers have covered for them but now it's all very public.

After days of intense backlash, most recently from President Donald Trump, Cracker Barrel is scrapping its new minimalist logo.

 

“We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain,” the company said in a statement.

 

“At Cracker Barrel, it’s always been – and always will be – about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family. As a proud American institution, our 70,000 hardworking employees look forward to welcoming you to our table soon.”

 

Last week, Cracker Barrel received a barrage of criticism when it unveiled its modernized logo, which got rid of the namesake barrel and the “old-timer” figure. Some loyal fans feared the 56-year-old chain was drifting too far from its bucolic roots, and the company’s shares (CBRL) nosedived more than 12% days after the announcement.

 

Trump congratulated the company on its reversal Tuesday.

 

“All of your fans very much appreciate it. Good luck into the future. Make lots of money and, most importantly, make your customers happy again!,” he said on Truth Social.

 

A deputy White House chief of staff posted on X that he received a call from Cracker Barrel earlier on Tuesday, saying “they thanked President Trump for weighing in on the issue.”

 

On Monday, the struggling country-themed restaurant chain and roadtrip staple signaled that it had messed up with the minimalist logo, saying, “We could’ve done a better job sharing who we are and who we’ll always be.”

 

The company noted that its “old-timer” figure would return, a major point of contention online. Many people over the years believed the company’s ambassador Uncle Herschel was the figure seen leaning against the barrel in the logo. (The company refers to the figure as “our old-timer” in the logo created by Nashville designer Bill Holley on a napkin in 1977.)

 

Hours before before Cracker Barrel walked back the minimalist logo, Trump posted on Truth Social that Cracker Barrel should return to its previous logo.

 

“Cracker Barrel should go back to the old logo, admit a mistake based on customer response (the ultimate Poll) and manage the company better than ever before,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Tuesday.

 

After Cracker Barrel announced its initial logo change last week, a social media firestorm began and the debacle quickly became another culture war topic stoked by right-wing influencers.

 

“WTF is wrong with @CrackerBarrel??!” Donald Trump Jr. posted on X. Right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk posted a side-by-side comparison of Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle ad and the original Cracker Barrel logo, with the new minimalist one and a woman who weighs more than Sweeney.

 

The drama was a setback for the chain’s $700 million transformation plan. The 56-year-old chain has new TV commercials, a redesigned menu and several new fall-themed foods.

 

“The way we communicate, the things on the menu, the way the stores look and feel … all of these things came up time and time again in our research as opportunities for us to really regain relevancy,” said Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Felss Masino in 2024.

 

Shares of Cracker Barrel rose more than 3% in after-hours trading Tuesday upon the announcement.

 

“They got a Billion Dollars worth of free publicity if they play their cards right,” Trump continued on Tuesday. “Very tricky to do, but a great opportunity. Have a major News Conference today. Make Cracker Barrel a WINNER again.”

The Clinton campaign is attempting once again to sweep important questions under the rug about top aide Huma Abedin, her family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and to Saudi Arabia, and her role in the ballooning Clinton email scandal.

Her mother, Saleha Abedin, sits on the Presidency Staff Council of the International Islamic Council for Da’wa and Relief, a group that is chaired by the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

 

Perhaps recognizing how offensive such ties will be to voters concerned over future terrorist attacks on this country by radical Muslims professing allegiance to Sharia law, the Clinton campaign on Monday tried to downplay Ms. Abedin’s involvement in the Journal and the Muslim Brotherhood.

 

The Clinton surrogate group Media Matters claimed predictably there was “no evidence” that Ms. Abedin or her family had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, and that Trump campaign staffers who spoke of these ties were conspiracy theorists.

 

To debunk the evidence, Media Matters pointed to a Snopes.com “fact-check” piece that cited as its sole source… Senator John McCain. This is the same John McCain who met Libyan militia leader Abdelkarim Belhaj, a known al Qaeda associate, and saluted him as “my hero” during a 2011 visit to Benghazi.

Donald Trump’s Big Gay Government

On the town with the A-Gays of Washington, who have never been happier to be out, proud and Republican.

He reported from Washington. Aug. 26, 2025 Updated 8:03 p.m. ET It was the last Wednesday in July, and many of Washington’s top players were hanging out at the Ned, a private club around the corner from the White House.

 

The Secretary of the Navy, John Phelan, was waiting for an elevator in the lobby when he bumped into Dr. Mehmet Oz, the surgeon turned daytime TV star now in charge of Medicare and Medicaid. Howard Lutnick, the secretary of commerce, was bouncing around the Library bar upstairs. Scott Bessent, the secretary of the Treasury, was wandering around up there too.

 

Sitting in a brown leather armchair in the center of this social whirl was a high-ranking official at the Department of Energy named Charles Moran. His abstruse-sounding title is associate administrator for external affairs for the National Nuclear Security Administration. What this means is that he works in the part of the Energy Department that develops, tests and keeps safe America’s nuclear weapons stockpile.

 

But that’s not why administration officials kept approaching his armchair to schmooze, or why some of the cabinet secretaries at the Ned that night seemed to be so chummy with him.

 

Mr. Moran, 44, is the pasha of a new power tribe in the capital: the gay men of the Trump administration.

 

These are the A-Gays. They’re (mostly) out, they’re proud (to work for President Trump) and they have big jobs inside (or alongside) this administration. They wield influence all over town, from the Pentagon to the State Department to the White House to the Kennedy Center.

 

“We’re like Visa,” Mr. Moran said. “Everywhere you want to be.” ..

 

Mr. Moran said as the aide walked away. He laughed and added, “I hang out with my straights just as easily as I hang out with my gays.”

 

The most powerful out gay man in the Trump administration is Mr. Bessent. There are a handful of others in the Treasury Department. Other A-Gays include Tony Fabrizio, the president’s longtime pollster; Trent Morse, a departing deputy assistant to the president; Richard Grenell, who was put in charge of the Kennedy Center; and Jacob Helberg, an under secretary of state. These are just some. There are lots of other lesser-known men who make up the tribe.

 

They’re overwhelmingly white and tend to have a certain kind of look. Close cropped haircuts. Windowpane suits. Golf shorts. They’re not the type to be telling anyone their pronouns or using the word “queer.” And they aren’t the least bit offended that the leader of their party continues to stoke a moral panic about transgender people.

They’re gay. But they’re still Republicans.

Life in Hostile Territory

 

Mr. Moran knows a lot of them because he’s been “on the Trump train,” as he put it, from the beginning.

In 2015, back when the Republican establishment was still trying to thwart Mr. Trump, Mr. Moran said that he and some other gay Republicans he knew became intrigued by the brash New Yorker’s history of saying nice things about gay rights. These men had experienced homophobia from their fellow Republicans at one point or another, so they saw Mr. Trump’s ascendance as something new, especially after the 2016 Republican National Convention, when Peter Thiel was given a prime-time speaking slot and used it to endorse Mr. Trump, saying: “I am proud to be gay. I am proud to be a Republican. But most of all I am proud to be an American.”

 

Along the way, he met the various members of the Trump family, all of whom treated him with a respect that couldn’t always be expected from Republican power brokers of the past, he said.

 

There were some gay appointees during the first Trump administration, but it wasn’t like now. Mr. Trump initially arrived in Washington as a true outsider; This time around, he has his own establishment. And it turns out that the MAGA establishment has a lot more openly gay men than the Republican establishment that came before it. …

 

“I love it when I find out there’s somebody new,” he said. Part of the A-Gays’ power comes from the fact that they (mostly) stick together.

 

“Even within the bureaucracy, the bureaucracy is overwhelming,” Mr. Moran said. “I love having this community as a resource.

In 1803, Ballston Spa's Sans Souci Hotel, at the time the largest hotel in the United States, was built by Nicholas Low. Presidents, Vice Presidents, Senators and Governors stayed there, as well as many wealthy private citizens.[5] Ballston Spa was incorporated as a village in 1807.

 

At different times, the village was served by four railroads: the Delaware and Hudson Railway, the Ballston Terminal Railroad, the Schenectady Railway Company,[6] and the Hudson Valley Railway.[7]

Leaking data to Wall Street

The SEC alleged that beginning in early 2016 these executives leaked key information to Wall Street analysts in order to manipulate revenue forecasts for the company.[202]

Korean Air inks record $50b US aviation deal

 

Korean Air, South Korea’s flagship carrier, on Tuesday announced a sweeping $50 billion deal to purchase next-generation aircraft from Boeing and spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International, its largest-ever investment aimed at fueling long-term growth.

 

The deal, signed during President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to Washington, includes $36.2 billion for 103 Boeing aircraft, $690 million for 19 spare engines, and a $13 billion long-term engine maintenance contract.

 

Attending the signing ceremony in Washington were Walter Cho, chair and CEO of Korean Air and Hanjin Group; Stephanie Pope, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Russell Stokes, CEO of Commercial Engines & Services at GE Aerospace.

 

The fleet order spans a wide mix of models: 20 Boeing 777-9s, 25 Boeing 787-10s, 50 Boeing 737-10s, and eight Boeing 777-8F freighters. Deliveries will be phased through the end of the 2030s.

 

Korean Air will also acquire 11 spare engines from GE Aerospace and eight from CFM International, alongside a 20-year maintenance service agreement with GE covering 28 aircraft.

 

The deal represents a strategic effort to reinforce ties with the US aviation industry and a proactive step toward sustained growth following Korean Air’s merger with Asiana Airlines.

 

“Through proactive, large-scale investments in aircraft, we aim to secure future growth momentum and deepen the mutually beneficial partnership between Korea and the United States,” the company said in a statement. “This strategic investment in the US market will enhance our operational capabilities and global competitiveness.”

 

The company added that, with major carriers pulling forward aircraft orders in the wake of the pandemic, the deal serves as a proactive step aligned with its long-term fleet strategy.

 

It would allow Korean Air to streamline its fleet around five high-efficiency aircraft families: the Boeing 777, 787 and 737, along with the Airbus A350 and A321neo.

 

The shift is expected to ensure stable capacity growth, generate economies of scale through fleet simplification, improve fuel efficiency, lower carbon emissions and enhance the overall customer experience, the company explained.

 

Korean Air opened its first US cargo route to Los Angeles via Tokyo in April 1971, and a year later launched its first passenger service to the city via Tokyo and Honolulu.

He vowed to pursue a “Make American Shipbuilding Great Again (MASGA)” project, saying that Korea’s shipyards will partner with US companies to rebuild its maritime capacity.

The investment pledges cover several advanced industries, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence and biotech, as well as strategic sectors such as shipbuilding, nuclear power and defense.

 

Delegates also focused on strengthening automotive and battery supply chains and securing critical minerals, moves that align with Trump’s drive to onshore production in key industries.

 

Samsung Chairman Lee and SK’s Chey intensely discussed cooperation on semiconductors and AI with Nvidia CEO Hwang.

 

Their talks were focused on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips — key components in the AI ​​semiconductor industry, sources said.

 

Samsung, the world’s top memory chipmaker, committed to expanding its $37 billion semiconductor foundry in Taylor, Texas, with additional capacity and deeper collaboration with US chipmakers.

 

SK Hynix Inc. confirmed its already announced $3.87 billion project to build a next-generation chip packaging plant for HBM chips in Indiana, while LG pledged further investment in batteries and home appliances.

 

Hyundai Motor added $5 billion to a previously announced $21 billion plan, boosting its total US commitment to $26 billion.

 

Hyundai’s projects include a steel plant in Louisiana producing low-carbon plates for cars, expanded EV and hybrid production capacity, and a robotics hub.

Indiana Republican state lawmakers set to visit the White House amid Trump redistricting push

 

A group of Republican legislators from Indiana are scheduled to visit the White House Tuesday, multiple sources familiar with the meeting told CNN, where the group is likely to discuss redistricting.

 

The White House sent the invitation to the state’s lawmakers in July, one of the sources said. The group is expected to meet in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

 

The meeting with Indiana lawmakers comes amid a White House pressure campaign for Republican-dominated states to redraw Congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. President Donald Trump hopes to stop Democrats from winning back the House – where Republicans have a very narrow majority.

 

Republicans hold seven of the nine House seats in Indiana, so any changes are likely to target only one seat in northwestern Indiana, currently held by Democratic Rep. Frank Mrvan. But a more aggressive redistricting effort could also try to include Rep. Andre Carson, who is from a far safer Democratic seat surrounding Indianapolis.

 

The afternoon meeting is not listed on Trump’s daily schedule, but a senior administration official told CNN the president is likely to at least drop by and greet the visiting Hoosiers.

 

Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston and Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray will be in attendance, sources familiar with the plans said. Huston’s daughter, Liz Huston, serves as an assistant to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

 

The invitation the members received in late July did not include redistricting as a topic for the meeting, one source said.

 

Several Republican lawmakers have raised concerns about the potential political fallout from a mid-decade redistricting effort, and Indiana could emerge as a test case for whether state Republican leaders will be able to resist pressure from the White House as the redistricting arms race spreads beyond Texas and California.

 

California Democrats passed a trio of redistricting bills last week, backed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, that will ask voters to replace the state’s current congressional maps with new ones aimed at netting Democrats five House seats.

 

The move was in response to Texas’ redistricting push – sought by Trump and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott – that ignited an intensifying, nationwide redistricting arms race. The Texas Senate approved new congressional maps on Saturday drawn to help Republicans win as many as five more House seats in next year’s midterm elections.

 

Vice President JD Vance traveled to the Indiana Statehouse earlier this month, where he met with Gov. Mike Braun and state legislative leaders. Braun and the state’s GOP leaders were noncommittal about redistricting efforts, CNN previously reported.

 

The Indiana Republican leaders are likely to face immense pressure from the White House and Trump allies. Still, many Republican operatives in Indiana said they are skeptical that a redistricting effort will take place.

 

Tuesday’s meeting provides the White House another opportunity to urge the state’s Republican lawmakers to consider redrawing their maps to potentially gain more seats before next year’s midterm elections, even as many raise concerns about doing so years before the next census.

 

Alongside Indiana and Texas, national Republicans are also ramping up their efforts to squeeze more GOP-friendly congressional seats out of additional states as allies of Trump have called on state leaders in Ohio, South Carolina and Missouri to target the handful of Democratic districts remaining in the states.

 

In Florida, Republicans took a first step toward a possible mid-cycle redistricting by launching a House committee to examine the issue. And in Nebraska, Republicans already hold all three seats, but lawmakers could redraw the map to make the state’s swingy 2nd District less competitive.

Chicago’s Dem Mayor Refuses FIVE Times to Answer on Whether He’d Accept More Cop Funding

 

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough was made to press Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for an answer after the Democrat repeatedly refused to say if he’d accept more police resourcing from the Trump administration, moments after he demanded President Donald Trump restore $800 million in grants for violence prevention programs.

 

Johnson appeared on MSNBC on Tuesday to continue to push back against Trump’s suggestion on Friday that he may send National Guard troops to Chicago and New York City, as he has in Washington, D.C., as part of a crackdown on crime.

 

The mayor blasted Trump from the outset for threatening his city with a “military occupation” that he said was both “illegal” and “unconstitutional.” He added that it was unnecessary, citing “a precipitous decline in violent crime in every single category” under his leadership.

 

Listing statistics, he continued: “If this president was actually serious about driving violence down in the city of Chicago and American cities across this country, he would work with mayors to make sure that we have the necessary investments to continue to do the work that we have been doing.”

 

Scarborough, who has advocated for cooperation between cities and the federal government on crime, asked what a “productive relationship with the Trump administration looks like?”

 

“An excellent question,” Johnson said. “First of all, he could start by restoring the over $800 million that was taken away from violence prevention efforts back in April.” He continued to detail work with community-led conflict resolution organizations and trained mental health professionals that, in some cases, have circumvented the need for a police officer to turn up at “that scene.”

 

Scarborough agreed that these were “great programs” before asking whether the mayor would also accept federal funding that would put extra police officers on the street in a line of questioning that quickly escalated into a heated back-and-forth.

 

SCARBOROUGH: So let me ask you, Mr. Mayor, those all sound like great programs. I’m curious, would you also like to get federal funding to help put 5000 more cops on the street in Chicago? Would that help drive down crime?

 

JOHNSON: Well, look, policing by itself is not the full strategy.

 

SCARBOROUGH [INTERRUPTING]: No, I understand that. You’ve talked about the other things you want. And I said those are good and important programs. But I’m asking also, would 5000 more police officers on the street in Chicago be helpful to go along with all of those social programs that a lot of cities are engaging in and having success with?

 

JOHNSON: Well, look, here’s the best way I can put it, Joe, is that in the 90s, when I was in high school, we had 3000 more police officers, and we had 900 people being murdered every single year in Chicago. It’s just not policing alone. Of course we want more detectives.

 

SCARBOROUGH: Of course I know policing alone, but, of course it’s not policing alone. You’ve told me everything else you want. I’m curious, and this does come down to an ideological difference between people: do you believe that the streets of Chicago would be safer if there were more uniformed police officers on the streets of Chicago?

 

JOHNSON: I believe the city of Chicago and cities across America would be safer if we actually had, you know, affordable housing. Look, I’m not saying –

 

SCARBOROUGH: That not the question I asked. My question is, and I just need a yes or no. Do you believe the streets of Chicago would be safer if you got all of those other extraordinary programs put back into place, which do have a history of being successful, if that’s complimented by having 5000 more cops on the streets of Chicago.

 

JOHNSON: I don’t believe that we should narrow it down to just police officers is what I’m saying –

 

SCARBOROUGH: I’m not –

 

JOHNSON [CONT’D]: – that is an antiquated approach. I’m saying we’ve invested in detectives.

 

SCARBOROUGH: Are you hearing what I’m saying? I’m agreeing with you that all of these other social programs are extraordinarily important. I just need a yes or a no. And then this will be the last time I ask if you get all of those other social programs that $800 million that New York City does, Los Angeles, other people do with great success? Would an additional 5000 cops on the streets in Chicago help compliment those programs to make Chicago safer?

 

JOHNSON: Look, we are working hard to make sure that our police department is fully supported. I don’t believe that just simply putting out an arbitrary number around police officers is the answer. President Donald Trump plans to appoint Dan Scavino, a longtime loyalist and White House deputy chief of staff, to run the Presidential Personnel Office, empowering him with the power to decide who can and cannot serve in the administration.

Scavino replaces Sergio Gor, who was tapped last week to serve as ambassador to India and as special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.

 

Gor endeared himself to the president and his family for adopting a zero tolerance policy toward job-seekers who had been critical of Trump in the past, often scouring their social media posts and occasionally intervening to block hirings. But his aggressive approach also earned him detractors. Notably, former special adviser Elon Musk slammed Gor as “a snake,” accusing him of convincing Trump to pull the nomination of a Musk confidant to serve as the next NASA administrator.

 

Scavino is one of Trump’s closest advisers, dating back to the first administration where he served in a variety of different communications roles. In the West Wing, Scavino occupies one of the closest offices to the Oval Office, serving as one of the most influential players in the MAGA movement.

 

Some MAGA influencers hoped Laura Loomer, another Trump enforcer, would land the role. Loomer told POLITICO it would be an “honor” to serve in the administration if offered the position. But several reports have indicated senior White House officials are wary or incorporating her bomb-throwing tactics into the daily operation.

Duffy threatens funding penalties for 3 states if English language rules for truckers aren’t enforced

 

California, Washington and New Mexico could lose millions of dollars of federal funding if they continue failing to enforce English language requirements for truckers, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Tuesday.

 

An investigation launched after a deadly Florida crash involving a foreign truck driver who made an illegal U-turn on Aug. 12 found what Duffy called significant failures in the way all three states are enforcing rules that took effect in June after one of President Donald Trump’s executive orders. He said the department was also already reviewing how states were enforcing the rules before the crash.

 

Truckers are supposed to be disqualified if they can’t demonstrate English proficiency and Duffy said the driver involved in the crash that killed three should not have ever been given a commercial driver’s license because of his immigration status. But the crash has become increasingly political with the governors of California and Florida criticizing each other and Duffy highlighting the Trump administration’s immigration concerns in interviews.

 

But Duffy said Tuesday that it is a safety issue — not a political one — because truckers need to understand road signs and be able to communicate with law enforcement about what they are hauling if they are pulled over or what happened if there is an accident.

 

“This is about keeping people safe on the road. Your families, your kids, your spouses, your loved ones, your friends. We all use the roadway, and we need to make sure that those who are driving big rigs — semis — can understand the road signs, that they’ve been well trained,” Duffy said.

 

The Transportation Department said California has conducted roughly 34,000 inspections that found at least one violation since the new language standards took effect requiring truck drivers be able to recognize and read road signs and communicate with authorities in English. But only one inspection involved an English language rules violation that resulted in a driver being taken out of service. And 23 drivers with violations in other states were allowed to continue driving after inspections in California.

 

He cited similar statistics for the other states with Washington finding more than 6,000 violations of safety rules during inspections, but only pulling four drivers out of service for English language violations. New Mexico has not placed any drivers out of service since the rules took effect.

 

Duffy said the states will lose money from the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program if they don’t comply with the rules within 30 days. Duffy said California could lose $33 million, Washington could lose $10.5 million and New Mexico could lose $7 million. The states did not immediately respond to the proposed sanctions that were announced before officials start their day on the West Coast.

 

Three people were killed when truck driver Harjinder Singh made an illegal U-turn on a highway, according to Florida’s Highway Patrol. He is being held without bond after being charged with three state counts of vehicular homicide and immigration violations.

 

A nearby minivan slammed into Singh’s trailer as he made the turn on a highway about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of West Palm Beach. Singh and his passenger were not injured.

 

Diamond R. Litty, the elected public defender in St. Lucie County, said her office was provisionally assigned to Singh’s case during his initial appearance Saturday morning. A review of his finances will determine whether Litty’s office remains on the case.

 

Litty said her office will focus on the criminal charges against Singh, who is presumed innocent, but they will also work with an immigration attorney to determine how Singh’s status affects the case. After more than three decades at her position, Litty said she can’t recall a case that garnered more attention than this one.

 

“Unfortunately, Mr. Singh has been caught in the crosshairs of politics,” Litty said.

 

But the head of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association trade group that represents small-business truck drivers praised Duffy’s announcement.

 

“Basic English skills are critical for safely operating a commercial motor vehicle — reading road signs, following emergency instructions, and communicating with law enforcement are not optional. The fatal crash in Florida this month tragically illustrates what’s at stake,” the group’s president, Todd Spencer, said.

 

The Department of Homeland Security has said Singh, a native of India, was in the country illegally. So Duffy said he should not have been granted a commercial driver’s licenses by Washington and California. He said New Mexico should have pulled Singh off the road for not speaking English after he was pulled over in July because he later failed a test given by DOT investigators after the Florida crash.

 

California is one of 19 states, in addition to the District of Columbia, that issues licenses regardless of immigration status. Supporters say that lets people work, visit doctors and travel safely.

 

But in addition, California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office posted on the platform X that Singh obtained a work permit during Trump’s first term, which Homeland Security officials disputed. Newsom also said the permit was renewed in April and federal officials have not addressed that.

 

Florida authorities have said Singh entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico in 2018.

A turtle ship (Korean: 거북선; RR: geobukseon; Korean pronunciation: [kʌ.buk.sʌn]) was a type of warship that was used by the Korean Joseon Navy from the early 15th century up until the 19th century. They were used alongside the panokseon warships in the fight against invading Japanese fleets. The ship's name derives from its covering that was said to resemble a turtle shell. Some historians have described it as a very early type of ironclad though the historical evidence for this is uncertain.

History

 

The first references to older, first-generation turtle ships, known as gwiseon (귀선; 龜船, Korean pronunciation: [kɥisʌn]), come from 1413 and 1415 records in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, which mention a mock battle between a gwiseon and a Japanese warship. However, these early turtle ships soon fell out of use as Korea's naval preparedness decreased during a long period of relative peace.[1]

 

Turtle ships participated in the war against Japanese naval forces supporting Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attempts to conquer Korea from 1592 to 1598.[2] Korean Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who won all battles against the Japanese Navy, is credited with designing the improved turtle ship. From their first appearance in the Battle of Sacheon, his turtle contributed to winning 16 battles against the Japanese fleet under the command of various Daimyos primarily from Western Japan, though under the command of Wŏn Kyun the Joseon Navy suffered a devastating defeat in the Battle of Chilcheollyang.[3] It is unknown precisely how many of Yi's Turtle Ships were constructed.[4] The cost of one of these armored warships would have been high, especially if the deck was lined with hexagonal iron plates as some sources suggest.[5]

John Bolton cashed in and America paid the price

 

I went to prison for defending the Constitutional separation of powers.

 

John Bolton (an occasional contributor to The Hill) may well wind up in prison, too if investigators uncover evidence and prosecutors decide to bring charges over his alleged classified disclosures.

 

When Bolton wrote his book, “The Room Where It Happened” — reportedly receiving a $2 million advance — he wasn’t just dishing gossip. He was sharing information about Oval Office conversations and national security that should have stayed secret — either by law or under executive privilege.

 

A federal judge already spelled this out in black and white. In June 2020, Judge Royce Lamberth warned that Bolton had “likely jeopardized national security by disclosing classified information in violation of his nondisclosure agreement obligations.” The judge only allowed the book to hit shelves because “the horse is already out of the barn,” given the publication of excerpts and the shipment of 200,000 copies of the book.

 

Lamberth went further in his ruling, stressing that Bolton had “gambled with the national security of the United States” and that the government was “likely to succeed on the merits” of proving he unlawfully disclosed classified material. Translation: Bolton didn’t just break trust — he may have also broken the law.

 

I served with Bolton, and he was far too frequently a loose cannon, bent on bombings and coups— Doctor Strangelove with a mustache. He agitated for airstrikes, pushed regime-change fantasies, and obsessed over military solutions when diplomacy was working. Then, instead of honoring executive privilege and confidential debate, Bolton acknowledged that in writing his memoir he relied on the “copious notes” he had conspicuously taken inside the White House.

 

That isn’t service. That isn’t patriotism. That’s profiteering off of America’s secrets.

 

For example, Bolton described confidential U.S. deliberations on how to fracture Nicolás Maduro’s control and prompt military defections. That kind of blueprint isn’t something you hand to the public — or to Maduro’s intelligence services. Such a disclosure of national-defense information without authorization can constitute a crime. Bolton puffed himself up as the great strategist of Caracas, but in reality, his disclosures were reckless speculation. No covert plan was exposed, no law broken by President Trump, and no evidence of U.S. misconduct was ever substantiated.

 

Another case pertained to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Turkey’s Halkbank. In 2019, the U.S. Justice Department charged Halkbank with helping Iran evade American sanctions by funneling oil and gas revenues through front companies and falsifying records. Bolton recounts a conversation in his book where Turkey’s strongman pressed Trump to back off. But that wasn’t a colorful anecdote — it was an active criminal matter even at the time he published, which subsequently went all the way to the Supreme Court.

 

Under federal law, removing or retaining classified drafts or notes of such a meeting can be punishable by prison time. Moreover, in the end, Bolton’s claims amounted to nothing but bluster. There was no Justice Department retreat on Halkbank, no evidence whatsoever that the prosecution was derailed, and no Trump misconduct.

 

On North Korea, Bolton revealed the inside playbook of U.S. negotiations with Kim Jong-un and consultations with South Korea. Seoul publicly blasted him for breaking trust. Allied intelligence, if documented in notes taken outside secure channels, could implicate either of two sections of the U.S. code covering unauthorized disclosure of communications intelligence.

 

Bolton’s book also exposed the advice and concerns of Britain, France, and other NATO partners during closed-door consultations. Foreign-government information is automatically classified under U.S. law. Publishing it didn’t just humiliate our allies; it shredded trust. Not only that, but his sensationalized speculation about Trump breaching the NATO treaty proved to be just that.

 

These aren’t minor indiscretions. They are statutory minefields. Collectively, these and other “Big Reveals” in Bolton’s book create a trove of national defense intelligence scattered by someone who took an oath of office to guard it.

 

I said it plainly on Newsmax when Bolton’s disclosures were under fresh scrutiny: “Hey, John, the difference between you and a president is that presidents can take anything they want and declassify it. And brother, you can’t.”

 

I know the stakes because I’ve paid the price. Steve Bannon and I both went to prison for defending the Constitution and our system of separation of powers. If evidence is found and indictments made, Bolton may one day go to prison for shredding that Constitution, defying executive privilege, and trampling safeguards meant to protect America’s security.

 

If that happens, Bolton won’t be remembered for his book tour. He’ll be remembered for the sequel he writes in prison.

Attorneys for former special counsel Jack Smith, who brought criminal charges against President Trump, denounced a watchdog investigation into Smith’s work as “imaginary and unfounded” in a letter to the Office of Special Counsel.

 

The letter, obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday, marked Smith’s first response to news that the government watchdog was investigating Smith for potential violations of the Hatch Act, which prohibits government employees from engaging in political activity.

 

Trump allies have accused the Biden-era special counsel of pursuing criminal charges against Trump in an effort to thwart his White House bid. Former Attorney General Merrick Garland tapped Smith in 2022, three days before Trump launched his 2024 campaign.

 

In their letter to acting head of the Office of Special Counsel, Jamieson Greer, attorneys Lanny Breuer and Peter Koski said the investigation into Smith’s prosecutions of Trump is “wholly without merit.”

 

“Mr. Smith’s actions as Special Counsel were consistent with the decisions of a prosecutor who has devoted his career to following the facts and the law, without fear or favor and without regard for the political consequences, not because of them,” the lawyers wrote.

 

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) requested the watchdog investigation, alleging Smith sought to interfere in the election by trying to fast-track cases, pointing to one instance when he asked the Supreme Court to rule on an issue before a lower court.

 

But Smith’s attorneys pushed back on that argument, insisting he made no decisions with an eye toward the election.

 

“A review of the record and procedural history demonstrates the opposite — Mr. Smith was fiercely committed to making prosecutorial decisions based solely on the evidence, he steadfastly followed applicable Department of Justice guidelines and the Principles of Federal Prosecution, and he did not let the pending election influence his investigative or prosecutorial decision-making,” Smith’s lawyers wrote.

 

“The predicate for this investigation,” the lawyers added, “is imaginary and unfounded.”

 

Smith brought criminal charges against the president in two distinct cases: one over the president’s efforts to stay in power after losing the 2020 election, and another over his mishandling of classified documents and his refusal to comply with requests for their return.

 

Both cases were dropped before Trump took office in January.

Ukrainian refugee, 23, who fled war for safer life in US knifed to death by homeless career criminal in North Carolina

 

A 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who recently fled her war-torn home for a safer life in the US was knifed to death by a homeless career criminal at a North Carolina train station last week, according to family members and authorities.

 

Iryna Zarutska suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the East/West Boulevard light rail station in South End, Charlotte just before 10 p.m. Friday, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Saturday.

 

Zarutska had “recently arrived in the United States, seeking safety from the war and hoping for a new beginning,” according to a GoFundMe page set up to fundraise for the young woman’s aunt and other family members during the “heartbreaking time.”

 

“Tragically, her life was cut short far too soon… This is an irreparable loss for her family,” the statement read.

 

Photos taken by local outlet WSOC-TV showed police tape cordoning off the platform and a train at the light rail station that night. Police have yet to confirm if the stabbing took place on the train, platform, or nearby, according to the Charlotte Observer.

 

Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was identified as the suspect and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Friday night. He has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, cops said.

 

Brown has been arrested a slew of times since 2011 for felony larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and communicating threats, according to court records obtained by The Post.

 

He is homeless and served five years in prison for the robbery with a deadly weapon charge, according to WSOC-TV.

 

Other past charges have been dropped, according to the Charlotte Observer.

 

The alleged killer, however, currently has pending charges for misuse of the 911 system in January following a police welfare check — which revealed his troubling thoughts, the outlet reported.

 

Brown told authorities during the visit he believed someone had given him a “man-made” material that controlled when he ate, walked, and talked, an affidavit obtained by the newspaper said.

 

“Brown wanted officers to investigate this ‘man-made’ material that was inside of his body,” the affidavit said.

 

Officers then advised Brown that he was suffering a medical issue, and there was nothing more they could do to help him.

 

He became upset over their response and called 911. He was arrested after he hung up the phone, the outlet reported.

 

Police have not released information on what led up to Friday’s deadly stabbing. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Carriers reroute fleets to sidestep US levy

Global shipping is realigning fleets in anticipation of October’s extra port fees to be levied by the US on China-linked tonnage.

 

This is already being reflected in chartering decisions for transatlantic tanker and dry bulk fixtures with Chinese-built tonnage shifting to other parts of the globe.

 

In the container sector, global liners are moving their vessels around in order not to be stung come this autumn’s new American penalties.

 

Asian container consultants Linerlytica are reporting the Premier Alliance – made up of HMM, ONE and Yang Ming -will split its current Mediterranean Pacific South 2 (MS2) into two separate services covering the Asia-Med Mediterranean 2 (MD2) service and the Middle East Gulf-US Gulf Pacific South 2 (GS2) service. The move will allow ONE to remove 10 China-built ships currently deployed on the MS2 service from the US.

 

Orient Overseas (International) Ltd (OOIL), the listed entity of Hong Kong container line OOCL, conceded last week that October’s likely introduction of extra port fees for Chinese-linked tonnage could be painful.

 

OOCL, owned by China’s COSCO, noted in a release that the potential extra port charges levied by the US on Chinese carriers will have a “relatively large impact”.

 

In April, the US Trade Representative detailed plans to start charging China-linked tonnage calling at US ports from the October 14 this year, in a bid to both curb China’s dominance in the field of shipbuilding as well as boost domestic shipyard capabilities.

 

Both OOCL and parent COSCO, part of the Ocean Alliance, have already started taking action – launching transpacific services, for instance, that avoid the US and make for Mexico instead.

 

Maersk has publicly stated it will look to avoid putting any Chinese-built ships onto the US trade, something it expects its competitors to follow suit.

 

US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has been designated to collect the new fee regime targeting China-linked vessels, as authorised by a US Trade Representative ruling. The rules are structured for rollout starting October14, 2025, and will apply to both Chinese-owned/operators and Chinese-built ships, with non-payment potentially blocking cargo operations and port clearance via imminent operational bans.

 

Under the finalised policy, Chinese-owned or operated vessels will be charged starting at $50 per net ton, escalating to $140 per ton by April 2028. Non-Chinese operators of Chinese-built ships face lower fees—starting at $18 per ton or $120 per container, rising to $33 per ton or $250 per container, whichever yields more.

 

The fees are assessed on a per-voyage (or rotation) basis, capped at five chargeable port rotations per vessel per year, and apply only at the first port of call. Exemptions are granted for short-sea shipping, vessels under size thresholds, US-owned ships, ballast voyages, and specialised export carriers.

 

CBP has confirmed that a new Pay.gov payment portal is under development for remittances. Failure to pay the charged service fee will risk operational denial—from offloading cargo to port entry and exit clearance.

 

This implementation follows industry feedback and revisions to earlier April proposals that had envisaged multi-million-dollar flat fees per call on Chinese-built vessels. A scaled-back tiered structure emerged after objections over feasibility and trade impact.

 

Supporters of the controversial ruling argue the measure helps counter Chinese dominance in global shipping, elevate US maritime security, and fuel domestic shipbuilding. Critics—including the World Shipping Council and major car-makers—warn it could raise consumer prices and shrink trade volumes at smaller US ports.

Why wasn’t HRC prosecuted for the emails?

Put simply, Obama ultimately OK’d by using the non govt email addy to communicate w/ Clinton. Obama also had an alias along with each of his cabinet members. Therefore indicting HRC would lead to indicting Obama & his cabinet etc which could never happen.
